Interactive Web Environments and multimedia tools are very common in engineering studies. However, these resources are very limited when graphical resolution is needed during the learning process. A learning environment that combines video and self-assessment Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools was developed to analyse this problem and to determine if the combined use of these two tools may be important in learning these subjects. A comparative study of 124 engineering students was carried out. They were randomly assigned into three groups: Group-A using only traditional tools, Group-B using traditional tools and CAD tools, and Group-C using traditional tools, CAD tools, and video training. The statistical analysis of the results showed that a greater number of students of Group-C passed the test and improved their scores. Therefore, the combined use of these two types of resources can be an important aid in the study of subjects requiring graphic tools for their learning.

Social imaginaries are conceived as schemes that allow us to perceive something as real, explain it and intervene operationally in what contemporary societies consider to be reality. This work seeks to infer the social representations that emanate from the advertising strategies that were produced and disseminated by UEFA (Union of European Football Associations), as well as by its official sponsors, in the promotion of the women's football championship: UEFA Women's Euro 2022. The results demonstrate the social function that brands acquire when representing, legitimizing and promulgating a transnational and globalized vision of women in football and in society. Background Neoadjuvant treatment has shown promising results in patients with borderline resectable pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. The potential benefits of neoadjuvant treatment on long-term overall survival in patients with resectable pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma have not yet been established. The aim of this study was to compare long-term overall survival of patients with resectable pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma based on whether they received neoadjuvant treatment or underwent upfront surgery. Methods A systematic review including randomized clinical trials on the overall survival outcomes between neoadjuvant treatment and upfront surgery in patients with resectable pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma was conducted up to 1 August 2023 from PubMed, MEDLINE and Web of Science databases. Patient-level survival data was extracted and reconstructed from available Kaplan–Meier curves. A frequentist one-stage meta-analysis was employed, using Cox-based models and a non-parametric method (restricted mean survival time), to assess the difference in overall survival between groups. A Bayesian meta-analysis was also conducted. Results Five randomized clinical trials comprising 625 patients were included. Among patients with resectable pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, neoadjuvant treatment was not significantly associated with a reduction in the hazard of death compared with upfront surgery (shared frailty HR 0.88, 95% c.i. 0.72 to 1.08, P = 0.223); this result was consistent in the non-parametric restricted mean survival time model (+2.41 months, 95% c.i. −1.22 to 6.04, P < 0.194), in the sensitivity analysis that excluded randomized clinical trials with a high risk of bias (shared frailty HR 0.91 (95% c.i. 0.72 to 1.15; P = 0.424)) and in the Bayesian analysis with a posterior shared frailty HR of 0.86 (95% c.i. 0.70 to 1.05). Conclusion Neoadjuvant treatment does not demonstrate a survival advantage over upfront surgery for patients with resectable pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In an attempt to further characterize the near-Earth asteroid (NEA) population, we present 38 new light curves acquired between 2020 September and 2023 November for NEAs (7335) 1989 JA, (7822) 1991 CS, (154244) 2002 KL6, and (159402) 1999 AP10, obtained from observations taken at the Teide Observatory (Tenerife, Spain). With these new observations along with archival data, we computed their first shape models and spin solutions by applying the light-curve inversion method. The obtained rotation periods are in good agreement with those reported in previous works, with improved uncertainties. Additionally, besides the constant period models for (7335) 1989 JA, (7822) 1991 CS, and (159402) 1999 AP10, our results for (154244) 2002 KL6 suggest that it could be affected by a Yarkovsky–O'Keefe–Radzievskii–Paddack acceleration with a value of |$\upsilon \simeq -7\times 10^{-9}$| rad d |$^{-2}$|⁠. The energy sector is essential in the transition to a more sustainable future, and renewable energies will play a key role in achieving this. It is also a sector in which the circular economy presents an opportunity for the utilisation of other resources and residual energy flows. This study examines the environmental and social performance of innovative energy technologies (which contribute to the circularity of resources) implemented in a demonstrator site in Luleå (Sweden). The demo-site collected excess heat from a data centre to cogenerate energy, combining the waste heat with fuel cells that use biogas derived from waste, meeting part of its electrical demand and supplying thermal energy to an existing district heating network. Following a cradle-to-gate approach, an environmental and a social life cycle assessment were developed to compare two scenarios: a baseline scenario reflecting current energy supply methods and the WEDISTRICT scenario, which considers the application of different renewable and circular technologies. The findings indicate that transitioning to renewable energy sources significantly reduces environmental impacts in seven of the eight assessed impact categories. Specifically, the study showed a 48% reduction in climate change impact per kWh generated. Additionally, the WEDISTRICT scenario, accounting for avoided burdens, prevented 0.21 kg CO2 eq per kWh auto-consumed. From the social perspective, the WEDISTRICT scenario demonstrated improvement in employment conditions within the worker and local community categories, product satisfaction within the society category, and fair competition within the value chain category. Projects like WEDISTRICT demonstrate the circularity options of the energy sector, the utilisation of resources and residual energy flows, and that these lead to environmental and social improvements throughout the entire life cycle, not just during the operation phase. ChatGPT, a generative artificial intelligence model, can provide useful and reliable responses in the field of ophthalmology, comparable to those of medical professionals. Twelve frequently asked questions from ophthalmology patients were selected, and responses were generated both in the role of an expert user and a non-expert user. The responses were evaluated by ophthalmologists using three scales: Global Quality Score (GQS), Reliability Score (RS), and Usefulness Score (US), and analyzed statistically through descriptive study, association, and comparison. The results indicate that there are no significant differences between the responses of expert and non-expert users, although the responses from the expert user tend to be slightly better rated. ChatGPT's responses proved to be reliable and useful, suggesting its potential as a complementary tool to enhance health literacy and alleviate the informational burden on healthcare professionals. (1) Background: Liver metastases (LM) are the leading cause of death in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. Despite advancements, relapse rates remain high and current prognostic nomograms lack accuracy. Our objective is to develop an interpretable neoadjuvant algorithm based on mathematical models to accurately predict individual risk, ensuring mathematical transparency and auditability. (2) Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 86 CRC patients with LM treated with neoadjuvant systemic therapy followed by complete surgical resection. A comprehensive analysis of 155 individual patient variables was performed. Logistic regression (LR) was utilized to develop the predictive model for relapse risk through significance testing and ANOVA analysis. Due to data limitations, gradient boosting machine (GBM) and synthetic data were also used. (3) Results: The model was based on data from 74 patients (12 were excluded). After a median follow-up of 58 months, 5-year relapse-free survival (RFS) rate was 33% and 5-year overall survival (OS) rate was 60.7%. Fifteen key variables were used to train the GBM model, which showed promising accuracy (0.82), sensitivity (0.59), and specificity (0.96) in predicting relapse. Similar results were obtained when external validation was performed as well. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2), was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization in March 2020. Since then, viral spread from humans to animals has occurred worldwide. Nonhuman primates (NHPs) have been found to be susceptible to reverse‐zoonosis transmission of SARS‐CoV‐2, but initial research suggested that platyrrhine primates are less susceptible than catarrhine primates. Here we report the natural SARS‐CoV‐2 infection of a common woolly monkey (Lagothrix lagothricha) from a wildlife rehabilitation center in Ecuador. The course of the disease, the eventual death of the specimen, and the pathological findings are described. Our results show the susceptibility of a new platyrrhine species to SARS‐CoV‐2 and provide evidence for the first time of a COVID‐19‐associated death in a naturally infected NHP. The putative route of transmission from humans, and implications for captive NHPs management, are also discussed. Given that common woolly monkeys are at risk of extinction in Ecuador, further understanding of the potential threat of SARS‐CoV‐2 to their health should be a conservation priority. A One Health approach is the best way to protect NHPs from a new virus in the same way that we would protect the human population.
