151. CORTEX: Large-Scale Brain Simulator Utilizing Indegree Sub-Graph Decomposition on Fugaku Supercomputer

Abstract: We introduce CORTEX, an algorithmic framework designed for large-scale brain simulation. Leveraging the computational capacity of the Fugaku Supercomputer, CORTEX maximizes available problem size and processing performance. Our primary innovation, Indegree Sub-Graph Decomposition, along with a suite of parallel algorithms, facilitates efficient domain decomposition by segmenting the global graph structure into smaller, identically structured sub-graphs. This segmentation allows for parallel processing of synaptic interactions without inter-process dependencies, effectively eliminating data racing at the thread level without necessitating mutexes or atomic operations. Additionally, this strategy enhances the overlap of communication and computation. Benchmark tests conducted on spiking neural networks, characterized by biological parameters, have demonstrated significant enhancements in both problem size and simulation performance, surpassing the capabilities of the current leading open-source solution, the NEST Simulator. Our work offers a powerful new tool for the field of neuromorphic computing and understanding brain function.

152. Gait-Adaptive Navigation and Human Searching in field with Cyborg Insect

Abstract: This study focuses on improving the ability of cyborg insects to navigate autonomously during search and rescue missions in outdoor environments. We propose an algorithm that leverages data from an IMU to calculate orientation and position based on the insect's walking gait. These computed factors serve as essential feedback channels across 3 phases of our exploration. Our method functions without relying on external systems. The results of our trials, carried out in both indoor (4.8 x 6.6 m^2) and outdoor (3.5 x 6.0 m^2) settings, show that the cyborg insect is capable of seeking a human without knowing the human's position. This exploration strategy would help to bring terrestrial cyborg insects closer to practical application in real-life search and rescue (SAR) missions., Comment: 35 pages, 9 figures

153. Initial electron thermalization in metals measured by attosecond transient absorption spectroscopy

Abstract: Understanding initial electron thermalization has relevance to both fundamental scientific knowledge and application to the construction of novel devices. In this study, attosecond transient absorption is used to directly measure initial electron thermalization times of 38 $\pm$ 8 fs, 15 $\pm$ 3 fs, 4.2 $\pm$ 1 fs, and 2.0 $\pm$ 0.3 fs for Mg, Pt, Fe, and Co, respectively. Through time dependent density function theory calculations, it is shown that the fast electron thermalization observed in Fe and Co is correlated with a strong local field effect. We find that a simple analytical model can be used to calculate the initial electron thermalization time measured by the transient extreme ultraviolet absorption spectroscopy method performed here. Our results suggest that the most significant contributions to the initial electron thermalization times are the basic metal properties of the density of states volume available for scattering and screened electron interaction. Many-body effects contribute less, but still significantly to the initial electron thermalization time. Ultimately the information gained through this study shows the unique view that attosecond transient absorption spectroscopy contributes to unraveling and monitoring electron dynamics and its connection to many-body effects in metals and beyond., Comment: 32 pages, 13 figures

154. Model-Driven Security Analysis of Self-Sovereign Identity Systems

Abstract: Best practices of self-sovereign identity (SSI) are being intensively explored in academia and industry. Reusable solutions obtained from best practices are generalized as architectural patterns for systematic analysis and design reference, which significantly boosts productivity and increases the dependability of future implementations. For security-sensitive projects, architects make architectural decisions with careful consideration of security issues and solutions based on formal analysis and experiment results. In this paper, we propose a model-driven security analysis framework for analyzing architectural patterns of SSI systems with respect to a threat model built on our investigation of real-world security concerns. Our framework mechanizes a modeling language to formalize patterns and threats with security properties in temporal logic and automatically generates programs for verification via model checking. Besides, we present typical vulnerable patterns verified by SecureSSI, a standalone integrated development environment, integrating commonly used pattern and attacker models to practicalize our framework.

155. Progenitor Constraint Incorporating Shell Merger: The Case of Supernova Remnant G359.0-0.9

Abstract: It is generally hard to put robust constraints on progenitor masses of supernovae (SNe) and remnants (SNRs) observationally, while they offer tantalizing clues to understanding explosion mechanisms and mass distribution. Our recent study suggests that ``shell merger'', which is theoretically expected for stellar evolution, can appreciably affect final yields of inter-mediate mass elements (IMEs; such as Ne, Mg, and Si). In light of this, here we report results of X-ray spectral analysis of a Galactic SNR G359.0-0.9, whose abundance pattern may possibly be anomalous according to a previous study. Our spectroscopy using all the available data taken with XMM-Newton reveals that this remnant is classified as Mg-rich SNRs because of its high Mg-to-Ne ratio (Z_Mg/Z_Ne=1.90+0.27-0.19; mass ratio 0.66+0.09-0.07) and conclude that the result cannot be explained without the shell merger. By comparing the observation with theoretical calculations, we prefer the so-called Ne-burning shell intrusion and in this case the progenitor mass M_ZAMS is likely <15M_sun. We confirm the result also by our new molecular line observations with the NRO-45 m telescope: G359.0-0.9 is located in the Scutum-Centaurus arm (2.66--2.94 kpc) and in this case the resultant total ejecta mass ~6.8M_sun is indeed consistent with the above estimate. Our method using mass ratios of IMEs presented in this paper will become useful to distinguish the type of the shell merger, the Ne-burning shell intrusion and the O-burning shell merger, for future SNR studies.

Abstract: The calculations of the first and the second ionization potentials of lawrencium and lutetium and the electron affinity of lawrencium are performed within the relativistic coupled cluster framework. These results are corrected by including the contributions of extrapolation to the complete basis set limit and higher order contributions due to relativity and electron correlation. The excellent agreement between our predictions of the ionization potentials of Lu and Lr and experimental values supports the accuracy of our predictions of the second ionization potential and the electron affinity of Lr.

Abstract: We report the result of a search for the rare decay $B^{0} \to \gamma \gamma$ using a combined dataset of $753\times10^{6}$ $B\bar{B}$ pairs collected by the Belle experiment and $387\times10^{6}$ $B\bar{B}$ pairs collected by the Belle II experiment from decays of the $\rm \Upsilon(4S)$ resonance produced in $e^{+}e^{-}$ collisions. A simultaneous fit to the Belle and Belle II data sets yields $11.0^{+6.5}_{-5.5}$ signal events, corresponding to a 2.5$\sigma$ significance. We determine the branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(B^{0} \to \gamma\gamma) = (3.7^{+2.2}_{-1.8}(\rm stat)\pm0.5(\rm syst))\times10^{-8}$ and set a 90% credibility level upper limit of $\mathcal{B}(B^{0} \to \gamma\gamma) < 6.4\times10^{-8}$., Comment: Published in PRD(L)

158. Precision microfluidic control of neuronal ensembles in cultured cortical networks

Abstract: In vitro neuronal culture is an important research platform in cellular and network neuroscience. However, neurons cultured on a homogeneous scaffold form dense, randomly connected networks and display excessively synchronized activity; this phenomenon has limited their applications in network-level studies, such as studies of neuronal ensembles, or coordinated activity by a group of neurons. Herein, we develop polydimethylsiloxane-based microfluidic devices to create small neuronal networks exhibiting a hierarchically modular structure resembling the connectivity observed in the mammalian cortex. The strength of intermodular coupling was manipulated by varying the width and height of the microchannels that connect the modules. Using fluorescent calcium imaging, we observe that the spontaneous activity in networks with smaller microchannels (2.2$-$5.5 $\mu$m$^2$) had lower synchrony and exhibit a threefold variety of neuronal ensembles. Optogenetic stimulation demonstrates that a reduction in intermodular coupling enriches evoked neuronal activity patterns and that repeated stimulation induces plasticity in neuronal ensembles in these networks. These findings suggest that cell engineering technologies based on microfluidic devices enable in vitro reconstruction of the intricate dynamics of neuronal ensembles, thus providing a robust platform for studying neuronal ensembles in a well-defined physicochemical environment., Comment: 30 pages, 6 figures, 6 supplementary figures

Abstract: We report measurements of the $e^+e^- \to B\bar{B}$, $B\bar{B}{}^*$, and $B^*\bar{B}{}^*$ cross sections at four energies, 10653, 10701, 10746 and 10805 MeV, using data collected by the Belle~II experiment. We reconstruct one $B$ meson in a large number of hadronic final states and use its momentum to identify the production process. In the first $2-5$ MeV above $B^*\bar{B}{}^*$ threshold, the $e^+e^- \to B^*\bar{B}{}^*$ cross section increases rapidly. 160. Exploring Backdoor Attacks against Large Language Model-based Decision Making

Abstract: Large Language Models (LLMs) have shown significant promise in decision-making tasks when fine-tuned on specific applications, leveraging their inherent common sense and reasoning abilities learned from vast amounts of data. However, these systems are exposed to substantial safety and security risks during the fine-tuning phase. In this work, we propose the first comprehensive framework for Backdoor Attacks against LLM-enabled Decision-making systems (BALD), systematically exploring how such attacks can be introduced during the fine-tuning phase across various channels. Specifically, we propose three attack mechanisms and corresponding backdoor optimization methods to attack different components in the LLM-based decision-making pipeline: word injection, scenario manipulation, and knowledge injection. Word injection embeds trigger words directly into the query prompt. Scenario manipulation occurs in the physical environment, where a high-level backdoor semantic scenario triggers the attack. Knowledge injection conducts backdoor attacks on retrieval augmented generation (RAG)-based LLM systems, strategically injecting word triggers into poisoned knowledge while ensuring the information remains factually accurate for stealthiness. We conduct extensive experiments with three popular LLMs (GPT-3.5, LLaMA2, PaLM2), using two datasets (HighwayEnv, nuScenes), and demonstrate the effectiveness and stealthiness of our backdoor triggers and mechanisms. 161. Understanding Linear Probing then Fine-tuning Language Models from NTK Perspective

Abstract: The two-stage fine-tuning (FT) method, linear probing then fine-tuning (LP-FT), consistently outperforms linear probing (LP) and FT alone in terms of accuracy for both in-distribution (ID) and out-of-distribution (OOD) data. This success is largely attributed to the preservation of pre-trained features, achieved through a near-optimal linear head obtained during LP. However, despite the widespread use of large language models, the exploration of complex architectures such as Transformers remains limited. In this paper, we analyze the training dynamics of LP-FT for classification models on the basis of the neural tangent kernel (NTK) theory. Our analysis decomposes the NTK matrix into two components, highlighting the importance of the linear head norm alongside the prediction accuracy at the start of the FT stage. We also observe a significant increase in the linear head norm during LP, stemming from training with the cross-entropy (CE) loss, which effectively minimizes feature changes. Furthermore, we find that this increased norm can adversely affect model calibration, a challenge that can be addressed by temperature scaling. Additionally, we extend our analysis with the NTK to the low-rank adaptation (LoRA) method and validate its effectiveness. Our experiments with a Transformer-based model on natural language processing tasks across multiple benchmarks confirm our theoretical analysis and demonstrate the effectiveness of LP-FT in fine-tuning language models. Abstract: A regular semisimple Hessenberg variety $\mathrm{Hess}(S,h)$ is a smooth subvariety of the full flag variety $\mathrm{Fl}(\mathbb{C}^n)$ associated with a regular semisimple matrix $S$ of order $n$ and a function $h$ from $\{1,2,\dots,n\}$ to itself satisfying a certain condition. We show that when $\mathrm{Hess}(S,h)$ is connected and not the entire space $\mathrm{Fl}(\mathbb{C}^n)$, the reductive part of the identity component $\mathrm{Aut}^0(\mathrm{Hess}(S,h))$ of the automorphism group $\mathrm{Aut}(\mathrm{Hess}(S,h))$ of $\mathrm{Hess}(S,h)$ is an algebraic torus of dimension $n-1$ and $\mathrm{Aut}(\mathrm{Hess}(S,h))/\mathrm{Aut}^0(\mathrm{Hess}(S,h))$ is isomorphic to a subgroup of $\mathfrak{S}_n$ or $\mathfrak{S}_n\rtimes \{\pm 1\}$, where $\mathfrak{S}_n$ is the symmetric group of degree $n$. 163. Polyak Meets Parameter-free Clipped Gradient Descent

Abstract: Gradient descent and its variants are de facto standard algorithms for training machine learning models. As gradient descent is sensitive to its hyperparameters, we need to tune the hyperparameters carefully using a grid search, but it is time-consuming, especially when multiple hyperparameters exist. Recently, parameter-free methods that adjust the hyperparameters on the fly have been studied. However, the existing work only studied parameter-free methods for the stepsize, and parameter-free methods for other hyperparameters have not been explored. For instance, the gradient clipping threshold is also a crucial hyperparameter in addition to the stepsize to prevent gradient explosion issues, but none of the existing studies investigated the parameter-free methods for clipped gradient descent. In this work, we study the parameter-free methods for clipped gradient descent. Specifically, we propose Inexact Polyak Stepsize, which converges to the optimal solution without any hyperparameters tuning, and its convergence rate is asymptotically independent of L under L-smooth and $(L_0, L_1)$-smooth assumptions of the loss function as that of clipped gradient descent with well-tuned hyperparameters. We numerically validated our convergence results using a synthetic function and demonstrated the effectiveness of our proposed methods using LSTM, Nano-GPT, and T5.

Abstract: Recent discoveries of Earth-sized planets transiting nearby M dwarfs have made it possible to characterize the atmospheres of terrestrial planets via follow-up spectroscopic observations. However, the number of such planets receiving low insolation is still small, limiting our ability to understand the diversity of the atmospheric composition and climates of temperate terrestrial planets. We report the discovery of an Earth-sized planet transiting the nearby (12 pc) inactive M3.0 dwarf Gliese 12 (TOI-6251) with an orbital period ($P_{\rm{orb}}$) of 12.76 days. The planet, Gliese 12b, was initially identified as a candidate with an ambiguous $P_{\rm{orb}}$ from TESS data. We confirmed the transit signal and $P_{\rm{orb}}$ using ground-based photometry with MuSCAT2 and MuSCAT3, and validated the planetary nature of the signal using high-resolution images from Gemini/NIRI and Keck/NIRC2 as well as radial velocity (RV) measurements from the InfraRed Doppler instrument on the Subaru 8.2 m telescope and from CARMENES on the CAHA 3.5 m telescope. X-ray observations with XMM-Newton showed the host star is inactive, with an X-ray-to-bolometric luminosity ratio of $\log L_{\rm X}/L_{\rm bol} \approx -5.7$. Joint analysis of the light curves and RV measurements revealed that Gliese 12b has a radius of 0.96 $\pm$ 0.05 $R_\oplus$, a 3$\sigma$ mass upper limit of 3.9 $M_\oplus$, and an equilibrium temperature of 315 $\pm$ 6 K assuming zero albedo. The transmission spectroscopy metric (TSM) value of Gliese 12b is close to the TSM values of the TRAPPIST-1 planets, adding Gliese 12b to the small list of potentially terrestrial, temperate planets amenable to atmospheric characterization with JWST., Comment: 29 pages (20 pages in main body), 13 figures (10 figures in main body). Abstract: We present a measurement of the ratio $R_\mu = \mathcal{B}(\tau^-\to \mu^-\bar\nu_\mu\nu_\tau) / \mathcal{B}(\tau^-\to e^-\bar\nu_e\nu_\tau)$ of branching fractions $\mathcal{B}$ of the $\tau$ lepton decaying to muons or electrons using data collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB $e^+e^-$ collider. The sample has an integrated luminosity of $362\!\pm\!2\,\text{fb}^{-1}$ at a centre-of-mass energy of $10.58\,\text{GeV}$. Using an optimised event selection, a binned maximum likelihood fit is performed using the momentum spectra of the electron and muon candidates. The result, $R_\mu = 0.9675 \pm 0.0007 \pm 0.0036$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic, is the most precise to date. It provides a stringent test of the light-lepton universality, translating to a ratio of the couplings of the muon and electron to the $W$ boson in $\tau$ decays of $0.9974 \pm 0.0019$, in agreement with the standard model expectation of unity., Comment: 22 pages, 7 figures

166. Pressure-induced nearly perfect rectangular lattice and superconductivity in an organic molecular crystal (DMET-TTF)$_2$AuBr$_2$

Abstract: External pressure and associated changes in lattice structures are key to realizing exotic quantum phases such as high-$T_{\rm c}$ superconductivity. While applying external pressure is a standard method to induce novel lattice structures, its impact on organic molecular crystals has been less explored. Here we report a unique structural phase transition in (DMET-TTF)$_2$AuBr$_2$ under pressure. By combining advanced high-pressure techniques and $ab$ $initio$ calculations, we elucidate that (DMET-TTF)$_2$AuBr$_2$ undergoes a transition from a quasi-one-dimensional lattice to a nearly perfect rectangular lattice at 0.9 GPa. This transition leads to the realization of an antiferromagnetic Mott insulator with $T_{\rm N}=66$ K, the highest $T_{\rm N}$ in low-dimensional molecular crystal solids to date. Upon increasing the pressure, the antiferromagnetic ordering is suppressed, and a superconducting phase with $T_{\rm c}=4.8$ K emerges around 6 GPa. Our study reveals the significant impact of external pressure on lattice structures of organic molecular crystals and highlights the intricate relationship between geometrical frustration and superconductivity. Abstract: We theoretically investigate nonequilibrium spin fluctuations in a ferromagnet induced by a light pulse. Using a Lindblad equation consistent with the Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation, we compute the autocorrelation function of magnetization. Our analysis reveals that this function comprises both thermal and nonequilibrium components. To examine the latter in detail, we introduce a Fano factor similar to nonequilibrium current noise in electronic circuits. We demonstrate that this factor encapsulates insights into the transfer of spin units to the environment. Abstract: To determine crystal structures from an X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern containing multiple unknown phases, a data-assimilated crystal growth (DACG) simulation method has been developed. The XRD penalty function selectively stabilizes the structures in the experimental data, promoting their grain growth during simulated annealing. Since the XRD pattern is calculated as the Fourier transform of the pair distribution function, the DACG simulation can be performed without prior determination of the lattice parameters. We applied it to C (graphite and diamond) and SiO$_2$ (low-quartz and low-cristobalite) systems, demonstrating that the DACG simulation successfully reproduced multiple crystal structures.

Abstract: In this paper, we give some properties of the modulation spaces $M_s^{p,1}({\mathbf R}^n)$ as commutative Banach algebras. In particular, we show the Wiener-L\'evy theorem for $M^{p,1}_s({\mathbf R}^n)$, and clarify the sets of spectral synthesis for $M^{p,1}_s ({\mathbf R}^n)$ by using the ``ideal theory for Segal algebras'' developed in Reiter [30].The inclusion relationship between the modulation space $M^{p,1}_0 ({\mathbf R})$ and the Fourier Segal algebra ${\mathcal F}\hspace{-0.08cm}A_p({\mathbf R})$ is also determined.

173. Accelerating Decision Diagram-based Multi-node Quantum Simulation with Ring Communication and Automatic SWAP Insertion

Abstract: An N-bit quantum state requires a vector of length $2^N$, leading to an exponential increase in the required memory with N in conventional statevector-based quantum simulators. A proposed solution to this issue is the decision diagram-based quantum simulator, which can significantly decrease the necessary memory and is expected to operate faster for specific quantum circuits. However, decision diagram-based quantum simulators are not easily parallelizable because data must be manipulated dynamically, and most implementations run on one thread. This paper introduces ring communication-based optimal parallelization and automatic swap insertion techniques for multi-node implementation of decision diagram-based quantum simulators. The ring communication approach is designed so that each node communicates with its neighboring nodes, which can facilitate faster and more parallel communication than broadcasting where one node needs to communicate with all nodes simultaneously. The automatic swap insertion method, an approach to minimize inter-node communication, has been employed in existing multi-node state vector-based simulators, but this paper proposes two methods specifically designed for decision diagram-based quantum simulators. These techniques were implemented and evaluated using the Shor algorithm and random circuits with up to 38 qubits using a maximum of 256 nodes. The experimental results have revealed that multi-node implementation can reduce run-time by up to 26 times. For example, Shor circuits that need 38 qubits can finish simulation in 147 seconds. Abstract: We present the result of a search for the charged-lepton-flavor violating decay $\tau^- \to \mu^-\mu^+\mu^-$ using a $424fb^{-1}$ sample of data recorded by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB $e^{-}e^{+}$ collider. The selection of $e^{-}e^{+}\to\tau^+\tau^-$ events is based on an inclusive reconstruction of the non-signal tau decay, and on a boosted decision tree to suppress background. We observe one signal candidate, which is compatible with the expectation from background processes. We set a $90\%$ confidence level upper limit of $1.9 \times 10^{-8}$ on the branching fraction of the \taumu decay, which is the most stringent bound to date.

175. Circuit Design of Two-Step Quantum Search Algorithm for Solving Traveling Salesman Problems

Abstract: Quantum search algorithms, such as Grover's algorithm, are expected to efficiently solve constrained combinatorial optimization problems. However, implementing a quantum search algorithm for solving the traveling salesman problem (TSP) on a circuit poses a potential challenge because current quantum search algorithms for TSP assume that an initial state of equal superposition of feasible solution states satisfying the constraint is already prepared a priori. The time complexity of brute-force preparation of the initial state increases exponentially with the factorial growth of feasible solutions, posing a considerable obstacle in designing quantum circuits for large-scale TSP. To overcome this problem, we propose a two-step quantum search algorithm with two distinct operators for preparing the initial state and solving TSP. The algorithm first amplifies an equal superposition state of all feasible solutions of TSP and subsequently amplifies the optimal solution states among these feasible solution states. 176. PCF Learned Sort: a Learning Augmented Sort Algorithm with $O(n \log\log n)$ Expected Complexity

Abstract: Sorting is one of the most fundamental algorithms in computer science. Recently, Learned Sorts, which use machine learning to improve sorting speed, have attracted attention. While existing studies show that Learned Sort is experimentally faster than classical sorting algorithms, they do not provide theoretical guarantees about its computational complexity. We propose PCF Learned Sort, a theoretically guaranteed Learned Sort algorithm. We prove that the expected complexity of PCF Learned Sort is $O(n \log \log n)$ under mild assumptions on the data distribution. We also confirm experimentally that PCF Learned Sort has a computational complexity of $O(n \log \log n)$ on both synthetic and real datasets. This is the first study to theoretically support the experimental success of Learned Sort, and provides evidence for why Learned Sort is fast.

177. Memory-Maze: Scenario Driven Benchmark and Visual Language Navigation Model for Guiding Blind People

Abstract: Visual Language Navigation (VLN) powered navigation robots have the potential to guide blind people by understanding and executing route instructions provided by sighted passersby. This capability allows robots to operate in environments that are often unknown a priori. Existing VLN models are insufficient for the scenario of navigation guidance for blind people, as they need to understand routes described from human memory, which frequently contain stutters, errors, and omission of details as opposed to those obtained by thinking out loud, such as in the Room-to-Room dataset. However, currently, there is no benchmark that simulates instructions that were obtained from human memory in environments where blind people navigate. To this end, we present our benchmark, Memory-Maze, which simulates the scenario of seeking route instructions for guiding blind people. Our benchmark contains a maze-like structured virtual environment and novel route instruction data from human memory. To collect natural language instructions, we conducted two studies from sighted passersby onsite and annotators online. Our analysis demonstrates that instructions data collected onsite were more lengthy and contained more varied wording. Alongside our benchmark, we propose a VLN model better equipped to handle the scenario. Our proposed VLN model uses Large Language Models (LLM) to parse instructions and generate Python codes for robot control. We further show that the existing state-of-the-art model performed suboptimally on our benchmark. In contrast, our proposed method outperformed the state-of-the-art model by a fair margin. We found that future research should exercise caution when considering VLN technology for practical applications, as real-world scenarios have different characteristics than ones collected in traditional settings.

178. Fast Evaluation of DNN for Past Dataset in Incremental Learning

Abstract: During the operation of a system including a deep neural network (DNN), new input values that were not included in the training dataset are given to the DNN. In such a case, the DNN may be incrementally trained with the new input values; however, that training may reduce the accuracy of the DNN in regard to the dataset that was previously obtained and used for the past training. It is necessary to evaluate the effect of the additional training on the accuracy for the past dataset. However, evaluation by testing all the input values included in the past dataset takes time. Therefore, we propose a new method to quickly evaluate the effect on the accuracy for the past dataset. In the proposed method, the gradient of the parameter values (such as weight and bias) for the past dataset is extracted by running the DNN before the training. Then, after the training, its effect on the accuracy with respect to the past dataset is calculated from the gradient and update differences of the parameter values. To show the usefulness of the proposed method, we present experimental results with several datasets. The results show that the proposed method can estimate the accuracy change by additional training in a constant time.

This study presents a connection between quantum walks and absolute zeta functions. In this paper, we focus on Hadamard walks and $3$-state Grover walks on cycle graphs. The Hadamard walks and the Grover walks are typical models of the quantum walks. We consider the periods and zeta functions of such quantum walks. Moreover, we derive the explicit forms of the absolute zeta functions of corresponding zeta functions. Abstract: Upgrade work towards increasing the beam intensity of the neutrino beamline at J- PARC is underway. Monitoring tertiary muon beams is essential for stable operation of the beamline. Accordingly, we plan to replace the present muon monitor sensors with electron multiplier tubes (EMTs). We investigated the radiation tolerance and linearity response of EMTs using a 90 MeV electron beam. An EMTs was irradiated with electrons up to 470 nC. EMTs show higher radiation tolerance than the Si sensors which are presently used as one of the muon monitor detectors for the T2K long-baseline neutrino experiment at J-PARC. The integrated charge yield decrease is found to be less than 8% after a beam irradiation equivalent to 132 days of operation at the future J-PARC beam power of 1.3 MW. The EMTs show linearity better than $\pm$5% up to the future beam intensity. The observed yield decrease is likely due to dynode deterioration based on the detailed investigation. The studies described here confirm that EMTs can be used as a high-intensity muon beam monitor. We propose an auto-tuning (AT) method by using the $D_{mat}^i$ - $R_{ell}^i$ graph, which plots the derivation/average for the number of non-zero elements per row ($D_{mat}^i$) and the ratio, SpMV speedups/transformation time from the CRS to ELL ($R_{ell}^i$ ). The experimental results show the ELL format is very effective in the Earth Simulator 2. The speedup factor of 151 with the ELL-Row inner-parallelized format is obtained. The transformation overhead is also very small, such as 0.01 to 1.0 SpMV time with the CRS format. In addition, the $D_{mat}^i$ - $R_{ell}^i$ graph can be modeled for the effectiveness of transformation according to the $D_{mat}^i$ value.

182. Learning Object States from Actions via Large Language Models

Abstract: Temporally localizing the presence of object states in videos is crucial in understanding human activities beyond actions and objects. This task has suffered from a lack of training data due to object states' inherent ambiguity and variety. To avoid exhaustive annotation, learning from transcribed narrations in instructional videos would be intriguing. However, object states are less described in narrations compared to actions, making them less effective. In this work, we propose to extract the object state information from action information included in narrations, using large language models (LLMs). Our observation is that LLMs include world knowledge on the relationship between actions and their resulting object states, and can infer the presence of object states from past action sequences. The proposed LLM-based framework offers flexibility to generate plausible pseudo-object state labels against arbitrary categories. We evaluate our method with our newly collected Multiple Object States Transition (MOST) dataset including dense temporal annotation of 60 object state categories. Abstract: We consider the asymptotic behavior of solutions to the convection-diffusion equation: \[ \partial_t u - \mathrm{div}\left(a(x)\nabla u\right) = d\cdot\nabla \left(\left\lvert u\right\rvert ^{q-1}u\right),\ \ x\in\mathbb{R}^n, \ t>0 \] with an integrable initial data $u_{0}(x)$, where $n\ge1$, $q>1+\frac{1}{n}$ and $d\in \mathbb{R}^{n}$. Moreover, we take $a(x)=1+b(x)>0$, where $b(x)$ is smooth and decays fast enough at spatial infinity. It is known that the asymptotic profile of the solution to this problem can be given by the heat kernel. Moreover, some higher-order asymptotic expansions of the solution have already been studied. In particular, the structures of the second asymptotic profiles strongly depend on the nonlinear exponent $q$. More precisely, these profiles have different decay orders in each of the following three cases: $1+\frac{1}{n}1+\frac{2}{n}$. In this paper, we focus on the critical case $q=1+\frac{2}{n}$. Abstract: We report the observation of a coalescing compact binary with component masses $2.5\text{-}4.5~M_\odot$ and $1.2\text{-}2.0~M_\odot$ (all measurements quoted at the 90% credible level). The gravitational-wave signal GW230529_181500 was observed during the fourth observing run of the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA detector network on 2023 May 29 by the LIGO Livingston Observatory. The primary component of the source has a mass less than $5~M_\odot$ at 99% credibility. We cannot definitively determine from gravitational-wave data alone whether either component of the source is a neutron star or a black hole. However, given existing estimates of the maximum neutron star mass, we find the most probable interpretation of the source to be the coalescence of a neutron star with a black hole that has a mass between the most massive neutron stars and the least massive black holes observed in the Galaxy. We provisionally estimate a merger rate density of $55^{+127}_{-47}~\text{Gpc}^{-3}\,\text{yr}^{-1}$ for compact binary coalescences with properties similar to the source of GW230529_181500; assuming that the source is a neutron star-black hole merger, GW230529_181500-like sources constitute about 60% of the total merger rate inferred for neutron star-black hole coalescences. The discovery of this system implies an increase in the expected rate of neutron star-black hole mergers with electromagnetic counterparts and provides further evidence for compact objects existing within the purported lower mass gap., Comment: 45 pages (10 pages author list, 13 pages main text, 1 page acknowledgements, 13 pages appendices, 8 pages bibliography), 17 figures, 16 tables. Abstract: Among the various candidates for dark matter (DM), ultralight vector DM can be probed by laser interferometric gravitational wave detectors through the measurement of oscillating length changes in the arm cavities. In this context, KAGRA has a unique feature due to differing compositions of its mirrors, enhancing the signal of vector DM in the length change in the auxiliary channels. Here we present the result of a search for $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge boson DM using the KAGRA data from auxiliary length channels during the first joint observation run together with GEO600. By applying our search pipeline, which takes into account the stochastic nature of ultralight DM, upper bounds on the coupling strength between the $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge boson and ordinary matter are obtained for a range of DM masses. While our constraints are less stringent than those derived from previous experiments, this study demonstrates the applicability of our method to the lower-mass vector DM search, which is made difficult in this measurement by the short observation time compared to the auto-correlation time scale of DM., Comment: 20 pages, 5 figures

Abstract: Ultrafast stimuli can stabilize metastable states of matter inaccessible by equilibrium means. Establishing the spatiotemporal link between ultrafast excitation and metastability is crucial to understanding these phenomena. Here, we use single-shot optical-pump, X-ray-probe measurements to provide snapshots of the emergence of a persistent polar vortex supercrystal in a heterostructure that hosts a fine balance between built-in electrostatic and elastic frustrations by design. By perturbing this balance with photoinduced charges, a starting heterogenous mixture of polar phases disorders within a few picoseconds, resulting in a soup state composed of disordered ferroelectric and suppressed vortex orders. On the pico-to-nanosecond timescales, transient labyrinthine fluctuations form in this soup along with a recovering vortex order. On longer timescales, these fluctuations are progressively quenched by dynamical strain modulations, which drive the collective emergence of a single supercrystal phase. Our results, corroborated by dynamical phase-field modeling, reveal how ultrafast excitation of designer systems generates pathways for persistent metastability.

Abstract: The Electron-Ion Collider (EIC), a state-of-the-art facility for studying the strong force, is expected to begin commissioning its first experiments in 2028. This is an opportune time for artificial intelligence (AI) to be included from the start at this facility and in all phases that lead up to the experiments. The second annual workshop organized by the AI4EIC working group, which recently took place, centered on exploring all current and prospective application areas of AI for the EIC. This workshop is not only beneficial for the EIC, but also provides valuable insights for the newly established ePIC collaboration at EIC. This paper summarizes the different activities and R&D projects covered across the sessions of the workshop and provides an overview of the goals, approaches and strategies regarding AI/ML in the EIC community, as well as cutting-edge techniques currently studied in other experiments.
