In 47 patients with coronary heart disease, the function of platelet was studied and ECG ST-segment was monitored. It was found that lower platelet function was more common in patients with severe coronary heart disease if they had long episodes of transient myocardial ischemia. Following 12 days of dilzem monotherapy, the most marked ++anti-ischemic and antianginal effects were observed in patients who had had higher platelet function.

Hemostasis was examined over time in 168 patients with influenza and ARVI. There were 53 elderly patients, 54 senile patients and 4 long-livers. 57 patients under 60 years made up a reference group. The patients with influenza did not differ significantly from those with ARVI as regards hemostasis. The elderly persons manifested pronounced acceleration of phases I-II blood coagulation. In the acute disease period, the old men demonstrated high platelet aggregation, whereas during convalescence, activation of the plasmic component of hemostasis in the presence of relatively low antithrombin III. Analysis was also made of the age-associated changes in hemostasis depending on influenza and ARVI complications (pneumonia, exacerbation of coronary disease, bronchitis). The changes revealed dictate the necessity of hemostasis control in elderly and senile persons afflicted with influenza and ARVI.

Modifying effects of widely used immunomodulator tylorone on lipid peroxidation and the state of antioxidant system were studied under conditions of normal state as well as in subacute poisoning with carbon monooxide. Multiple effects of tylorone on these reactions were found in various tissues. The drug increased content of reduced glutathione in liver tissue, while amount of the substance was decreased in kidney and heart muscle. Content of diene conjugates and of SH-groups in blood, content of ascorbate in adrenal glands and activity of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase in liver tissue were found to decrease. After administration of tylorone alterations of the most patterns studied under hypoxic conditions were similar to those of normal state. At the same time, the oppositely directed alterations were detected in content of reduced glutathione in heart muscle and in activity of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase in liver tissue under conditions of carbon monoxide poisoning.

A rare observation of an unilateral ovarian tumour in a 62-year-old patient is presented. According to the clinical data and the results of the ultrasound examination the tumour was considered as a carcinoma. Hysterectomy with appendages and large omentum resection were performed. A tumour of the right ovary, 13 x 10 x 10 cm was found: cyst with a grey-brown soft node was observed in the cut surface. Histologically, the struma remnants were observed in the cyst wall and structures corresponding to the follicular carcinoma of the thyroid, the central parts of which had a structure of the C-cell thyroid carcinoma. Ultrastructural examination confirmed a light microscopic diagnosis of the malignant monodermal ovarian teratoma developing from the struma with areas of follicular solid C-cell carcinoma.

Recently a large number of amorphous alloys based on transition metals have been obtained by mechanical alloying [1-5]. Heinike [6] was the first to report the formation of Fe3C by milling iron and carbon powders. Nasu et al. [7] reported about amorphous alloys of Fe3C powders obtained by the mechanical alloying of iron and carbon powders. The aim of this work was to study the possibility of synthesis of amorphous Fe3C alloys by the mechanical treatment of iron powder in liquid hydrocarbon (toluene). Mechanical stirrers are most popular in drilling practice. The circulation system of a drilling rig must have efficient stirrers to ensure homogeneity of the whole drilling mud. A parameter is proposed that characterizes the stirrer performance objectively and comprehensively, since it is an analog of unit power consumption for mixing, and also permits generalization of the experimental data and their use in the design of new apparatuses. The best stirring quality was ensured by the 2PM stirrer, whose main blades are bent backward, while the axial flow created by the additional blades is directed upward. The time for stirring 10 m/sup 3/ of the mud was t = 2 h 40 min, no sediment settled on the tank bottom, the unit energy consumption was w = 1.1 kI X h/m/sup 3/, the efficiency factor was K /SUB e/ = 3300.

An analysis is made of the influence of amplitude distortions on the intensity distribution in the image of a diffuse object obtained in a randomly inhomogeneous medium assuming that the logarithm of the amplitude distortions is normally distributed. It is shown that the distortions in this distribution depend strongly on the parameter η = ρα2σ2/S (ρα and σ are the correlation radius and variance of the logarithm of the amplitude distortions; S is the area of the receiver aperture) and also on the resolution of the receiving equipment. This conclusion is confirmed experimentally.

The method was developed for plotting complete tensile diagrams in the strain rate range 10−4–103 sec−1, in which specimen elongation is recorded by means of a capacitance sensor placed on the dynamometer end face. 2. Complete tensile diagrams of the AMg6 and MA18 alloys in the range\(\dot \varepsilon = 10^{ - 3} - 10^3 \sec ^{ - 1} \) suggest a qualitatively different character of their dependence on the strain rate. Alongside with the standard mechanical characteristics the diagrams were also used to determine the total specific strain energy. 3. The speed dependence of the coefficients of variation of the mechanical characteristics of the investigated materials was established as nonlinear. This must be taken into account in calculating the reliable strength of structures exposed to the effect of static as well as of dynamic load.

An experimental investigation was made of the effect of high-power laser radiation on water drops of ~10–2 cm size. The drops disintegrated under the action of such radiation. The disintegration was of explosive nature and was attributed to boiling of strongly overheated water at isolated hot spots, which formed as a result of an inhomogeneous distribution of the optical field in a drop.

In studying the problem of the effect of the amplitude and form of discharge current pulses on the time for transition from a diffuse discharge form to a contracted one and on the value of the threshold current I /SUB As/ for formation of an anodic spot, the authors used a photoelectric method for determination of the moment of appearance of the anodic spot based on determination of the spectral composition of the plasma at different moments of time after the beginning of discharge initiation. The photoelectric method can be used in studying emission processes on a cathode and also in those cases where both electrodes are made of the same material. An example shows synchronous oscillograms of I /SUB p/ (tau) and J /SUB i/ (tau) for copper electrodes. It is evident that during transition of the discharge to a contracted form with an anodic spot there was a sharp increase of the intensity of deexcitation of the ionic copper line. At the moment of extinction of the anodic spot, the amplitude values of J /SUB i/ (tau) corresponded to a level characteristic of the diffuse form of arc burning.

The authors consider that it is the correct choice of patients for lumbar sympathectomy which is responsible for good remote results in 84.3% of patients subjected to the operation.

The authors have studied changes in hemodynamics by the method of integral rheography of the body and radioisotopic study of the time of bloodflow in 110 patients with obliterating atherosclerosis who were subjected to sympathectomy or reconstructive operations on the vessels. The positive effect of operations manifested itself in improvement of the central and regional hemodynamics.

44 observations on the replacement of the abdominal aorta with vascular xenografts are presented. The enzymatic processing of the grafts clears away the antigenic properties of plasty material and decreases significantly the immunological response of the recipient. Poor results of xenoplasty are due to an inadequate mechanical strength of the graft wall.

Rheologic characteristics of arterial and venous blood have been examined by Rotovisco RV-100 (Haake, FRG), a present-day rotation viscosimeter. Sixty-three acute myocardial infarction cases with intravenous infusion of sodium nitroprusside are analyzed. The detected time course of the reduction of arterial and venous blood viscosity during sodium nitroprusside infusion helps specify the pattern of this drug action in patients during the acute period of myocardial infarction.

Platelet aggregability, coagulant and rheologic properties of arterial and venous blood were studied in 138 patients with acute extensive myocardial infarction. Heterogeneous changes were revealed in the aforementioned parameters during this condition. There was a lower arteriovenous ratio between hemostatic potential parameters.

An experimental study is made of the interaction of pulsed microwaves in the 10 cm range with collisionless plasma flows (ω ≫ ν) in a waveguide under both favorable (▽n ‖ E, ω ≈ ωLe) unfavorable initial conditions for plasma resonance of the waves. It is shown that in the first case over the interval vE/vTe = 10-5-5 the absorption coefficient D2 changes little while absorption sets in almost immediately (t < 0.01 µsec) and is accompanied by rapid decay of the plasma and the production of fast electrons. In the second case (▽n ⊥ E) anomalously strong absorption sets in after a time delay (tdelay = 1-3 µsec) related to the time for the leading edge of the plasma to become deformed when the wave pressure exceeds the plasma pressure (E 0 2 /8π ≳ neTe).

Results of different methods of treatment of 712 patients with obliterating injuries of the lower extremity vessels were followed for the period from 1974 to 1980. Complex conservative therapy was used in 225 patients. Good results were observed in 1/3 of the patients. Operations were fulfilled in 487 patients: 273 lumbar sympathectomies (bilateral in 28%) and 214 reconstruction operation on the arteries. The prognosing of effects of sympathectomies gave positive results in 84.3% of patients. Good remote results after reconstructive operations were observed in 72,5% of patients. The authors emphasize a short-term effect of reconstructive operations below the inguinal ligament.

Data are given on the changes in the hemostatic system in 42 patients with uncomplicated influenza and in complications (pneumonia, bronchitis, aggravation of ischemic heart disease). In the acute period of the disease they were characterized by hypercoagulation which was most pronounced in patients with influenza complicated by pneumonia. In cases of aggravation of ischemic heart disease functional platelet activity during convalescence decreases but the plasma link of hemostasis remains activated and fibrinolytic blood activity inhibited. Functional platelet activity in dynamics of the disease increases which should be taken into consideration in pathogenetic therapy.

The clinico-instrumental investigation of results of intraarterial infusions of acetylcholine chloride in 82 patients with obliterating lesions of the vessels of lower extremities has revealed high therapeutic effect of the drug. The treatment allowed avoiding amputation of the extremity in the overwhelming majority of patients with serious degrees of ischemia.

The intra-aortic++ introduction of a complex of drugs was performed to 34 patients with sepsis of obstetric-gynecological etiology. The disease appeared in 23 patients after extrahospital abortions, in 7 patients after delivery, in 4 patients after operation of cesarean section. Septic pneumonia took place in 23 patients. Antiseptic treatment was also used in all the patients. Recovery was noted in 32 of 34 patients, 23 of them were discharged from the hospital without removal of the uterus. Conclusion may be made that the intra-aortic++ administration of drugs is a highly effective method of treatment of obstetric-gynecological sepsis.

The authors analyze results of using the intraoperative hemodilution with the help of the mannite plasma in 20 patients with obliterating lesions of the lower extremity vessels. Its influence on the central hemodynamics, water-electrolyte homeostasis, functions of the kidneys, liver, coagulating blood system were studied. The advantages of such method of autohemotransfusion are shown.

Indices of the central hemodynamics were studied by the method of integral rheography in 76 male patients with obliterating lesions of the lower extremity arteries. The elasticity of the arterial vascular bed in these patients was found to reduce. It proved to be possible not only to estimate the effects of operative desympathization of the lower extremities but also to prognoze its nearest results by the data of temporal chemical desympathization of the lumbar ganglia by novocain or peridural blockade.
