170. Worry and Fear during the COVID-19 Epidemic Normalization: Analyzing Prevalence and Risk Factors among 182,991 High School Students in China

Abstract

It is worth paying attention to the level of worry and fear of students during the normalization of the epidemic. We conducted the cross-sectional study that included 182,991 high school students using an online survey to assess worry and fear levels and its influencing factors in three cities in Henan Province, China, from May 21 to May 27, 2021. Worry and fear levels were measured using a five-item Likert-type scale. Multinomial logistic regression was used to analyze the risk factors. Approximately 65.42% of students reported being high worry about the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) epidemic, and about 41.44% of students reported being high fear about the COVID-19 epidemic. In addition, compared with female, male had lower odds of suffering from a high worry, and compared with senior high school students, junior high school students were more likely to suffer from a high worry. Students lived in rural had highest odds increased likelihood of high worry. Similar results in fear levels. During the normalization period of the COVID-19 epidemic, many students have high levels of worry and fear. This study has implications for potential influencers of worry and fear levels in follow-up work.

Abstract

We present 12 new transit light curves and 16 new out-of-transit radial velocity measurements for the XO-3 system. By modelling our newly collected measurements together with archival photometric and Doppler velocimetric data, we confirmed the unusual configuration of the XO-3 system, which contains a massive planet ($M_P=11.92^{+0.59}_{-0.63} M_J$) on a relatively eccentric ($e=0.2853^{+0.0027}_{-0.0026}$) and short-period ($3.19152 \pm 0.00145\,$day) orbit around a massive star ($M_*=1.219^{+0.090}_{-0.095} M_{\odot}$). Furthermore, we find no strong evidence for a temporal change of either $V\sin i_{*}$ (and by extension, the stellar spin vector of XO-3), or the transit profile (and thus orbital angular momentum vector of XO-3b). We conclude that the discrepancy in previous Rossiter-McLaughlin measurements ($70.0^{\circ} \pm 15.0^{\circ}$ (Hebrard et al. 2008); $37.3^{\circ} \pm 3.7^{\circ}$ (Winn et al. 2009); $37.3^{\circ} \pm 3.0^{\circ}$ (Hirano et al. 2011)) may have stemmed from systematic noise sources., Comment: Accepted for publication by The Astronomical Journal on January 18, 2022

Abstract

The fraction of observable nights is an essential parameter for selecting astronomical sites. In recent years, meteorological satellite data have played an essential role in recognising and providing statistics of observable nights. We present a method to estimate the fraction of observable nights based on the FengYun-2 series of geostationary meteorological satellites and weather records of multiple astronomical sites. We have calculated the fraction of observable nights at 27 sites in Indonesia and two astronomical sites in China to validate the method. The results derived from our method show good agreement with previous works. Furthermore, we have derived the yearly distribution of the fraction of observable nights above China, which indicates the area near 40$^{\circ}$N has more observable nights than other areas in China., Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures; accepted for publication in MNRAS (Acceptation date: 2022 February 10)

Abstract

Recently synthesized Kagome compounds AV$_3$Sb$_5$ attract great attention due to the unusual coexistence of the topology, charge density wave and superconductivity. In this {\it Letter}, based on the band structures for CsV$_3$Sb$_5$ in pristine phase, we fit an effective 6-band model for the low-energy processes; utilizing the random phase approximation (RPA) on the effective minimal model, we obtain the momentum-resolved static spin susceptibility attributing the spin-fluctuation pairing mechanism, we find that the superconducting pairing strengths increase with the lift of the Coulomb correlation, and the superconductive pairing symmetry is singlet, the gap functions are antisymmetric with respect to the x-axis and the y-axis in the intermediate to strong Coulomb correlated regime,indicating the unconventional superconductivity in Kagome compounds AV$_3$Sb$_5$., Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures

Abstract

Haptic feedback in virtual reality (VR) allows users to perceive the physical properties of virtual objects (e.g., their weight and motion patterns). However, the lack of haptic sensations deteriorates users' immersion and overall experience. In this work, we designed and implemented a low-cost hardware prototype with liquid metal, VibroWeight, which can work in complementarity with commercial VR handheld controllers. VibroWeight is characterized by bimodal feedback cues in VR, driven by adaptive absolute mass (weights) and gravity shift. To our knowledge, liquid metal is used in a VR haptic device for the first time. Our 29 participants show that VibroWeight delivers significantly better VR experiences in realism and comfort.
