Researches on L2 motivation have traditionally exhibited a monolingual bias. However, the concept of a multilingual motivational system has gradually gained attention in recent studies. This study examines the multilingual motivation types and components among 50 students majoring in dual foreign languages in China. To explore diverse motivation types and cross-linguistic differences in multilingual motivations, Q methodology, which shares features of both qualitative and quantitative research approaches, was employed. Retrospective interviews were also conducted after data analysis to gain a more profound understanding. The students’ shared viewpoints were identified through multiple inverted factor analysis, which were further verified by the interview results. Findings indicate that, within the framework of the L2 Motivation Self System, the multilingual self serves as the initial motivation for students choosing dual language majors. Notably, the ought-to language self is more significant than the ideal language self. Additionally, students majoring in different L3 exhibit distinct types of multilingual motivation. The study has some pedagogical importance of incorporating translanguaging backgrounds into teaching strategies and offers specific recommendations for language teachers working with students majoring in dual foreign languages in China. Introduction: We sought to characterize cognitive profiles associated with enlarged perivascular spaces (EPVS) among Chinese older adults. Methods: This population‐based study included 1191 dementia‐free participants (age ≥60 years) in the MIND‐China MRI Substudy (2018–2020). We visually evaluated EPVS in basal ganglia (BG) and centrum semiovale (CSO), white matter hyperintensities (WMHs), lacunes, cerebral microbleeds (CMBs), and cortical superficial siderosis. We used a neuropsychological test battery to assess cognitive function. Data were analyzed using general linear models. Results: Greater BG‐EPVS load was associated with lower z‐scores in memory, verbal fluency, and global cognition (p < 0.05); these associations became non‐significant when controlling for other cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) markers (e.g., WMHs, lacunes, and mixed CMBs). Overall, CSO‐EPVS load was not associated with cognitive z‐scores (p > 0.05); among apolipoprotein E (APOE) ‐ε4 carriers, greater CSO‐EPVS load was associated with lower verbal fluency z‐score, even when controlling for other CSVD markers (p < 0.05). Discussion: The associations of BG‐EPVS with poor cognitive function in older adults are largely attributable to other CSVD markers. Three-layer glue-free composite filmss ba,sed on a PP/EVA/ela,stomer blending,sy,stem were prepared through melt blending and ca,st co-extrusion using EVA a,s an adhe,sive layer and different easterners a,s a compatibilizer for the PP core layer and adhesive layer. The resultant blending system was analyzed by means of mechanical tessts, rheological tessts, and sscanning electron microsscopy, and the propertiess of the compossite filmss were inve,stigated. The ressuta indicated that there wa,s an optimal bonding effect on paper when using the EVA containing 18 wt% vinyl acetate. The PBE easterner exhibited a more ssignificant improvement in the mechanical properties* than POE. The glass transition temperature of PP and EVA increased gradually with an increase in the PBE content, and meanwhile the curvature of Cole-Cole also increased gradually, indicating that the compatibility between PP and EVA became better and better. When the content of PBE in the EVA adhesive layer was; 30 wt%, the tensile sstrength of the composite films; reached a maximum value of 29 MPa. The adhesive strength of the composite films with paper reached at maximum value of 9 N/15 mm at a PBE content of 20 wt%. The core layer and adhesive layer cannot be peeled off for the compossite filmss at a PBE content of 25 wt%. The compossite filmss are robust without delamination in thiss ca,se. In this work, we report on the selective area growth (SAG) of InGaN multiple quantum well (MQW) structures to completely suppress the phenomenon of the Stokes shift in monolithically integrated photonic chips. The original green MQW region is designed as the integrated photodetector (PD), while the SAG blue MQW region acts as the integrated light-emitting diode (LED). The detection spectra of the PD can completely cover the emission spectra of the LED, greatly improving the on-chip optical connection by the complete suppression of the Stokes shift. Thus, the bottleneck of on-chip optical connection based on spectra-tail overlap in integrated photonic chips has been broken. Under the same operating current, the photocurrent of the SAG integrated PD reaches 11.8 μA, while the conventional chip achieves only 0.6 μA. By SAG method, the photo-to-dark current ratio of integrated PD exhibits about two orders of magnitude increase under 0 V bias. Undoubtedly, the SAG technology provides a strategy to further improve the on-chip optical signal transmission efficiency of the MQW structure integrated photonic chips. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

According to the latest evidence, the microbial metabolite Urolithin A (UA), known for its role in promoting cellular health, modulates CD8+ T cell‐mediated antitumor activity. However, the direct target protein of UA and its underlying mechanism remains unclear. Here, this research identifies ERK1/2 as the specific target crucial for UA‐mediated CD8+ T cell activation. Even at low doses, UA markedly enhances the persistence and effector functions of primary CD8+ cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) and human chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells both in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistically, UA interacts directly with ERK1/2 kinases, enhancing their activation and subsequently facilitating T cell activation by engaging ULK1. The UA‐ERK1/2‐ULK1 axis promotes autophagic flux in CD8+ CTLs, enhancing cellular metabolism and maintaining reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, as evidenced by increased oxygen consumption and extracellular acidification rates. UA‐treated CD8+ CTLs also display elevated ATP levels and enhanced spare respiratory capacity. Overall, UA activates ERK1/2, inducing autophagy and metabolic adaptation, showcasing its potential in tumor immunotherapy and interventions for diseases involving ERKs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), an active constituent of tea, is recognized for its anticancer and anti-inflammatory properties. However, the specific mechanism by which EGCG protects osteoblasts from cadmium-induced damage remains incompletely understood. Here, the action of EGCG was investigated by exposing MC3T3-E1 osteoblasts to EGCG and CdCl2 and examining their growth, apoptosis, and differentiation. It was found that EGCG promoted the viability of cadmium-exposed MC3T3-E1 cells, mitigated apoptosis, and promoted both maturation and mineralization. Additionally, CdCl2 has been reported to inhibit both the phosphoinositide 3-kinase/protein kinase B/mammalian target of rapamycin (PI3K/AKT/mTOR) and nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2/heme oxygenase-1(Nrf2/HO-1) signaling pathways. EGCG treatment attenuated cadmium-induced apoptosis in osteoblasts and restored their function by upregulating both signaling pathways. The findings provide compelling evidence for EGCG's role in attenuating cadmium-induced osteoblast apoptosis and dysfunction through activating the PI3K/AKT/mTOR and Nrf2/HO-1 pathways.
