Cancer detection tests open a new era of developing cancer markers, allowing early detection and improving cancer treatments. Existing cancer detection technologies, for example, CA125, CA 19.9, CT, MRI, and others, are either not highly sensitive or specific enough for early detection. Recent technological development of “liquid biopsy” research led to more sensitive biomarkers. Newly developed multiple-cancer early-detection tests can screen up to multiple cancers in asymptomatic individuals with one blood draw. These tests, however, might pose significant challenges in our clinical practice. This paper highlights the issues we face and how to solve their problems.

Controllable scene synthesis aims to create interactive environments for various industrial use cases. Scene graphs provide a highly suitable interface to facilitate these applications by abstracting the scene context in a compact manner. Existing methods, reliant on retrieval from extensive databases or pre-trained shape embeddings, often overlook scene-object and object-object relationships, leading to inconsistent results due to their limited generation capacity. To address this issue, we present CommonScenes, a fully generative model that converts scene graphs into corresponding controllable 3D scenes, which are semantically realistic and conform to commonsense. Our pipeline consists of two branches, one predicting the overall scene layout via a variational auto-encoder and the other generating compatible shapes via latent diffusion, capturing global scene-object and local inter-object relationships while preserving shape diversity. The generated scenes can be manipulated by editing the input scene graph and sampling the noise in the diffusion model. Due to lacking a scene graph dataset offering high-quality object-level meshes with relations, we also construct SG-FRONT, enriching the off-the-shelf indoor dataset 3D-FRONT with additional scene graph labels. Extensive experiments are conducted on SG-FRONT where CommonScenes shows clear advantages over other methods regarding generation consistency, quality, and diversity. Objective: To explore the effect of refined management in the operation room on promoting postoperative recovery in patients undergoing sinusitis surgery via nasal endoscopy. Methods: In this retrospective study, the clinical data of 80 patients undergoing endoscopic sinus surgery were divided into study group (SG) and control group (CG) according to different nursing methods, with 40 cases in each group. The CG only received routine nursing, while the SG adopted refined management in addition to routine nursing. Postoperative pain, depression, anxiety, and nursing satisfaction were compared between the two groups. Results: There was no significant difference in Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) score between the two groups before operation (P>0.05). After operation, VAS of the SG (1.05±0.24) was significantly better than that of the CG (2.39±0.45), the nursing satisfaction rate of the SG (92.5%) was higher than that of the CG (65.0%), and the overall effective rate of nursing in the SG (95.0%) was higher than that of the CG (77.5%) (all P

Children's suicidality has become a significant concern in recent years. While multiple factors contribute to suicide risk, psychopathology is considered the most significant risk factor in the affected children. Utilizing data from 5957 children of The Adolescent Brain Cognitive DevelopmentSM Study (ABCD Study�), we aimed to investigate the relationship between longitudinal changes in children's psychopathology and their risk of suicide. We assessed psychopathology using the ABCD Parent Children Behavior Checklist Raw Scores Aseba (CBCL), and one self-harm and three suicidal ideation diagnoses using the ABCD Youth Diagnostic Interview for DSM-5 (KSADS-5). Using exploratory factor analysis, we modelled spectra of the Hierarchical Taxonomy Of Psychopathology (HiTOP). Adjusted logistic regression analysis revealed that increasing scores on the antagonistic externalizing spectrum over one year was associated with a higher risk of self-harm and suicidal ideation in the following year (coefficient=0.073; p-value=0.029). Additionally, higher scores in the antagonistic externalizing spectrum at baseline were significantly associated with lower risk for children's suicidal ideation at second-year follow-up (coefficient=-0.121; p-value=0.021), but not self-harm behaviours. To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first to adopt the temporal domain of dimensional psychopathology to identify children's suicidality at follow-up with a large-scale longitudinal dataset. The findings might suggest some potential for early detection and prevention of children's suicidality in the future.

This thesis examines the creep properties of additively manufactured nickel- based superalloys. It develops the understanding of relationship between the microstructure of additively manufacutred nickel-based superalloys and creep performance through a creep model. Meanwhile, this thesis presents microstructure design strategies for Inconel 718 and Hastelloy X to improve their creep properties.

Positron Emission Tomography - Computed Tomography (PET-CT) has been used to diagnose malignancy before surgery. However, there may be an increase in 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake in PET scans in benign conditions, leading to a false-positive diagnosis of malignancy and unnecessary surgery. This PET-CT investigation is expensive and is not without risk, including radiation and drug or contrast hypersensitivity. Although variable uterine uptakes of FDG activities in PET-CT had been reported in the literature, unawareness of its possibility in benign conditions could lead to a false alarm of malignancy. This paper reported a patient with a false-positive FDG finding presenting as a malignant uterine lesion for surgery, aiming to raise the clinical awareness of this finding.
