Abstract The phenomenon of hydrogen spillover usually involved in the hydrogenation reactions over supported metal catalysts has been seldom reported over molecular catalysts. Herein, we report the important role of hydrogen spillover in homogeneous hydrogenation with the asymmetric hydrogenation of quinolines as a model reaction. It is observed that the conversion of quinaldine over TsDPEN-Rh-Cp*-Cl catalyst is sharply increased by 2.1 folds in the presence of Ni/TiO2 and the ee value remained at the same level. The mechanism study shows that Ni/TiO2 is mainly used as H2 dissociation site, TsDPEN-Rh-Cp*-Cl is the active site to control the enantioselectivity of the product, and hydrogen spillover acts as a bridge between the two catalysts in the homogeneous and heterogeneous hybrid system. The hydrogen spillover makes it possible for heterogeneous catalysts and homogeneous organometallic complexes to cooperate, breaking the boundary between homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis.

Abstract Objective Through this study we aimed to present the latest and most comprehensive pooled analysis, providing an updated evaluation of the efficacy and safety of sequential therapy for primary osteoporosis, using bone formation promoters followed by bone resorption inhibitors. Methods PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Embase databases were retrieved to identify pertinent studies. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on the sequential therapy of primary osteoporosis with bone formation promoters followed by bone resorption inhibitors were included. Data from clinical studies that met the eligibility criteria were extracted, and quality assessment and meta-analysis were performed using RevMan v5.4 and Stata v15.0. Sensitivity and subgroup analyses were performed to find the source of heterogeneity and discover more findings. Results A total of 10 eligible articles involving 14,510 patients (7171 in the intervention group versus 7339 in the comparator group) were included for the evidence synthesis. Abstract Background Multimorbidity and physical function in older adults have been identified as associated with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outcomes. This study aimed to investigate whether multimorbidity affects the association of impaired functional independence (FI) with critical COVID-19 among older inpatients during the peak of Omicron infection in China. Methods This is a multicentre, retrospective cohort study in northeastern China. Patients aged ≥ 60 years, who were diagnosed with COVID-19 at the time of admission or during hospitalisation. The Barthel index was used to assess FI. Patients were classified into independent, mildly dependent, moderately dependent, and severely dependent groups. Disease severity was classified as critical, severe, and non-severe and combined into severe or critical and non-severe. Binary logistic regression analysis was used to investigate any correlation between FI and disease severity. Patients were further stratified by presence or absence of multimorbidity. Findings In this study, of 1598 patients, 530 (33.17%) developed severe or critical infections during the entire hospital stay. Patients with severe dependency had 7.39 times (95% CI: [4.60, 12.15]) higher risk of serious or critical infections than those without dependency. Abstract Highly myopic cataract (HMC) is a leading cause of blindness among the working-age individuals, with its pathogenesis poorly understood. This study aimed to elucidate the role of ferroptosis in HMC development as well as the underlying mechanisms. In HMC lens epithelia, levels of Fe2+ and lipid peroxidation were found elevated, with increased vulnerability towards ferroptosis as revealed by transmission electron microscopy. Mechanistically, RNA sequencing of HMC lens epithelial samples identified up-regulated expression of discoidin domain receptor tyrosine kinase 2 (DDR2) as a key factor, which could enhance ferroptosis sensitivity via the Src-Hippo pathway. Specifically, DDR2 interacted with Src kinase, leading to the nuclear translocation of homologous transcriptional regulators (yes-associated protein 1 [YAP1] and WW domain containing transcription regulator 1 [WWTR1]) of the Hippo pathway, which altered the expression level of ferroptosis-related genes. Notably, highly myopic eyes of mice exhibited higher sensitivity to RSL3, a ferroptosis inducer, manifested as more severe nuclear lens opacities both in vitro and in vivo compared with the contralateral control eyes, which could be alleviated by inhibitors of either ferroptosis or DDR2. Altogether, these findings highlighted the role of DDR2 in mediating ferroptosis in HMC formation, providing a novel insight for therapeutic interventions.

Abstract Background Although the second booster dose of COVID-19 vaccines is available, vaccine hesitancy among the public may have peaked due to the surge in infections caused by the Omicron variant. To improve coverage of the second booster dose, it is crucial to investigate the prevalence of vaccine hesitancy among the general population during this period and explore the reasons for this phenomenon. Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted between January 5 to February 9, 2023. Variables including sociodemographics, mental health, COVID-19 infection status, COVID-19 vaccination status, and vaccine hesitancy were collected. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis were performed to identify factors associated with the hesitancy of the second booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine among the general population. Results Among the 10,623 participants, the uptake rate of the second booster dose was 4.3%. Among those who did not receive the second booster dose, 43.6% expressed vaccine hesitancy. The highest hesitancy rate was observed among participants who had not completed primary immunization (71.4%), followed by those with chronic diseases (48.6%) and those aged 60 and above (33.2%). The COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy was higher among females, participants with high incomes, those with a history of COVID-19 infection, those with depressive symptoms and post-traumatic stress disorder, and those with adverse events after COVID-19 vaccination. Conversely, lower hesitancy was observed among students, participants aged 60 and above, those from southern China, and those with higher level of perceived social support. Conclusions COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy remains prevalent among the general population in China after the surge period of the pandemic. Crucial steps, such as raising public awareness of the benefits and potential side effects of regular COVID-19 vaccination, ensuring timely monitoring and disclosure of pandemic information, and implementing targeted measures to improve social support and mental health, should be taken. These efforts will be instrumental in reducing vaccine hesitancy, advancing vaccination campaigns, and effectively preparing for the potential future outbreaks.

Abstract Objective This study aimed to examine the factors that affect treatment delay in early childhood caries (ECC), guided by a modern medical model. This study attempted to analyze the pathways influenced by these factors and provide a theoretical foundation for designing targeted intervention programs. Methods Data were collected from young children who visited the department of stomatology at a tertiary hospital from January to December 2023. Data were collected via a general information survey questionnaire, the Scale of Oral Health Outcomes for 5-year-old Children (SOHO-5), the Children’s Fear Survey Schedule-Dental Subscale-Chinese (CFSS-DS-C), the Parental Caregiver Perceptions Questionnaire-8 (P-CPQ-8), the Family Impact Scale (FIS-8), and the Perceived Barriers to Health Care-Seeking Decision-Chinese (PBHSD-C). The data in this study were analyzed using a variety of statistical tests, including the Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests, correlation analysis, multiple stepwise regression analysis, and structural equation modeling (SEM). Results The treatment delay score of early childhood caries was 36.77 ± 10.11, indicating that the state of early childhood caries was currently at a moderate level of delay. The SOHO-5 score was 6.41 ± 1.78, the CFSS-DS-C score was 23.60 ± 6.91, the P-CPQ-8 score was 18.43 ± 4.33, and the FIS-8 score was 18.66 ± 4.28. Multi-factor analysis revealed key factors affecting treatment delay, including permanent residence, medical insurance type, oral health habits, reasons for visit, first symptoms, the time of first discovery of oral problems, brushing teeth before bedtime every day, a genetic history of dental caries and the staging of dental caries. A positive correlation existed between oral health, children’s dental fear and treatment delay, whereas social support was negatively correlated with treatment delay. The SEM, which is based on the modern medical model, revealed that children’s dental fear plays a mediating role in the relationships among social support, oral health, and treatment delay. Conclusion The present study developed a novel model to study the ECC treatment delay, elucidated the causal links between the identified variables, and proposed potential intervention strategies to enhance oral health awareness, knowledge, and skills among young children and their parents. These strategies can help improve children’s dental visiting behavior and reduce treatment delay.

Cold chain logistics is an essential method for ensuring meat quality in China, which is a country that produces and consumes much meat. With the development of science and technology, and the gradual implementation of cold chain logistics planning policy, digitization, informatization, and visualization have become a focal point of development in cold chain logistics. However, temperature fluctuations will inevitably occur in the cold chain logistics process, particularly in long-distance transportation and extreme weather conditions to trigger the "chain breaks""pseudo-cold chains", and other issues, leading to a decrease in meat quality in the cold chain logistics process. Advanced technologies like big data, the internet of things, and artificial intelligence are becoming widely used as Industry 4.0 technology, which develops quickly. The combination of these technologies and various sensing devices, which are particularly effective in monitoring the cold chain of meat products, has become an effective way to resolve related issues. The focus of this article reviews the key progress of monitoring technology in the cold chain logistics of meat products, including information perception, information processing, and other essential aspects. To analyze the future development of meat cold chain logistics monitoring technology combined with sensors, narrowband internet of things, machine learning, and blockchain, and to provide theoretical support for the research and application of China's cold chain logistics monitoring technology.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the leading global threat to human health. The clinical application of vascular stents improved the survival rates and quality of life for patients with cardiovascular diseases. However, despite the benefits stents bring to patients, there are still notable complications such as thrombosis and in-stent restenosis (ISR). Surface modification techniques represent an effective strategy to enhance the clinical efficacy of vascular stents and reduce complications. This paper reviews the development strategies of vascular stents based on surface functional coating technologies aimed at addressing the limitations in clinical application, including the inhibition of intimal hyperplasia, promotion of re-endothelialization. These strategies have improved endothelial repair and inhibited vascular remodeling, thereby promoting vascular healing post-stent implantation. However, the pathological microenvironment of target vessels and the lipid plaques are key pathological factors in the development of atherosclerosis (AS) and impaired vascular repair after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Therefore, restoring normal physiological environment and removing the plaques are also treatment focuses after PCI for promoting vascular repair. Unfortunately, research in this area is limited. This paper reviews the advancements in vascular stents based on surface engineering technologies over the past decade, providing guidance for the development of stents.

This article presents the methods, results, and applications of visual localization and topographic mapping for the Zhurong rover in China's Tianwen-1 Mars mission. New techniques, namely vignette correction and online camera mast calibration, were developed for the images captured by the rover's navigation and terrain cameras (NaTeCam) to enhance the mapping qualities. During surface operations, photogrammetric techniques were routinely applied at the traveling waypoints. The NaTeCam images were obtained to generate 3-D topographic mapping products at the centimeter level to support obstacle analysis and rover path planning. Cross-site visual localization at adjacent waypoints was conducted to reduce the accumulated position errors in the onboard dead-reckoning result. Visual localization refinement was also employed by matching the digital orthophoto map (DOM) from the rover images and the orbital basemap at waypoints where distinct terrain features were available to further eliminate the localization errors. Compared with the reference rover traverse extracted from a high-resolution imaging science experimental image in which the actual rover track is visible, the accuracies of the rover traverses generated from cross-site visual localization and DOM matching refinement are estimated to be 1.75% and 0.50% of the traverse length. The actual total traverse length is 2009 m, which is 88 m longer than 1921 m from the odometer reading, revealing a forward wheel slipping caused by the downslope trend of the southward traverse. The visual localization and topographic mapping results of the Zhurong rover have greatly supported the surface exploration planning, object approaching, and scientific investigations in the mission.

This paper outlines the establishment of a generic cryogenic CMOS database in which key electrical parameters and transfer characteristics of the MOSFETs are quantified as functions of device size, temperature/frequency responses. Meanwhile, comprehensive device statistical analysis is conducted to evaluate the influence of variation and mismatch effects at low temperatures. Furthermore, by incorporating the Cryo-CMOS compact model into the process design kit (PDK), the cryogenic 4 Kb SRAM and 5-bit flash ADC are designed, and their performance is investigated and optimized based on the EDA-compatible platform, hence laying a solid foundation for large-scale cryogenic IC design.

Social group activity recognition is crucial for various applications including surveillance, human-robot interaction, and behavioral analysis. Current approaches often require extensive manual annotations and rely heavily on pre-trained detectors, limiting their practical applications. Additionally, existing methods struggle to effectively model long-term spatiotemporal relationships in group activities. This paper introduces a novel approach to Social Group Activity Recognition (SoGAR) using Self-supervised Transformers network that can effectively utilize unlabeled video data. To extract spatio-temporal information, we create local and global views with varying frame rates. Our self-supervised objective ensures that features extracted from contrasting views of the same video are consistent across spatio-temporal domains. Our proposed approach efficiently uses transformer-based encoders to alleviate the weakly supervised setting of group activity recognition. By leveraging the benefits of transformer models, our approach can model long-term relationships along spatio-temporal dimensions. Our proposed SoGAR method achieves state-of-the-art results on three group activity recognition benchmarks, namely JRDB-PAR, NBA, and Volleyball datasets, surpassing the current state-of-the-art in terms of F1-score, MCA, and MPCA metrics.

The prevalence of depressive-like behavior is significantly higher in patients with cholestatic liver disease, leading to a notable reduction in the quality of life. This situation underscores the urgent need to investigate the mechanisms underlying the association between cholestasis and clinical depression. This review provides a comprehensive examination of how neuroendocrine disorders resulting from cholestasis influence the onset of depression through both direct and indirect mechanisms. First, how the accumulation of bile acids in the central nervous system (CNS) during cholestasis leads to damage to the blood-brain barrier, neuroinflammation, and neurodegeneration is discussed, highlighting the key roles of bile acid receptors, such as FXR and TGR5, in this process. Additionally, the gut-brain axis has been shown to be involved in the development of brain diseases in a variety of ways. Therefore, the indirect indirect effects of bile acids via the gut-brain axis, which affect the composition of the gut microbiota, the integrity of the gut barrier, and the secretion of gut hormones are summarized, thereby regulating the development of depression. However, whether bile acids can directly enter the CNS and which targets are targetable within the gut-brain axis remain pivotal questions. Addressing these issues will open new avenues for developing more effective therapeutic strategies aimed at alleviating depressive symptoms experienced by patients with cholestasis.

Glaciers are vital indicators of climate change, particularly in the Tibetan Plateau, which is experiencing unprecedented glacial retreat due to rising temperatures. This study presents a novel deep learning model, SAU-Net, for automatic glacier segmentation using multisource remote sensing data. SAU-Net, built upon the U2-Net architecture, incorporates a two-layer nested U-shaped structure and a Simple Attention Module (SimAM) to enhance feature extraction and segmentation accuracy. The model is applied to the Himalayas and Karakoram regions, capturing diverse glacier types and environmental conditions. Results demonstrate that SAU-Net achieved an impressive accuracy of 94.6% and $F_{\beta }$ score of 0.835, significantly outperforming the conventional U-Net model in glacier identification tasks. The successful application of SAU-Net not only addresses challenges associated with glacier mapping in complex terrains but also provides a scalable method for generating regional glacier inventories, contributing to improved monitoring and understanding of glacial dynamics under climate change. This research underscores the transformative potential of deep learning in environmental monitoring and provides a framework for future studies in cryospheric science.

The precision of electric vehicle (EV) charging station load forecasting is paramount for the efficient management of smart grids, fulfilling the charging demands of EV users and enhancing power system operations and planning. While existing forecasting methods have made strides, they often fall short in addressing the challenges of low spatial resolution and spatial heterogeneity. Low spatial resolution, characterized by sparse data distribution and a dearth of information between geographically diverse charging stations, coupled with spatial heterogeneity, which is evident in the fluctuating energy demand across different regions, requires a sophisticated approach. In this study, we introduce the Multi-Scale Spatial-Temporal Graph Attention Network (MSSTGAN), a pioneering framework that adeptly navigates these complexities. MSSTGAN employs an encoder-decoder architecture underpinned by split-pyramid attention to resolve issues of low spatial resolution, enabling the model to process multi-scale data and capture temporal dynamics effectively. Moreover, it incorporates graph attention mechanisms to manage spatial heterogeneity in energy demand, ensuring a nuanced understanding of regional variations. Our framework’s efficacy is underscored by its superior performance over existing baselines on four real-world EV charging station datasets, showcasing its prowess in tackling the intricacies of low spatial resolution and spatial heterogeneity.

The study aimed to develop a clinical decision support system for stroke critical-care rehabilitation in medical intensive care units (ICUs) to address the challenges of complex patient conditions, diverse rehabilitation needs, and subjectivity in physician prescriptions. This study proposed a dual-knowledge-driven intelligent rehabilitation decision support system (RDSS) for personalized intensive-care rehabilitation of severe-stroke patients. The system uses proposed collaborative reasoning that integrates semantic reasoning and knowledge graph-based reasoning to recommend rehabilitation plan, other relevant treatment options, potential complications and comorbidities, and risk factors to consider based on the patient’s clinical context information. In order to validate whether this system can enhance doctors’ capability in formulating rehabilitation prescriptions, a comparative evaluation study and a retrospective study were conducted respectively. The results of the comparative study showed that the overlap rate (73.3%) between the RDSS and the gold standard was higher than the average overlap rate (59.4%) between most (96.6%) rehabilitation professionals and the gold standard. In the retrospective study, 92 patients from two hospitals were enrolled, the overlap rate between the rehabilitation plans provided by the RDSS and those provided by the gold standard was over 50% for all cases, with nearly one-fifth achieving a 100% match. Moreover, 46.7% of rehabilitation plans had an overlap rate of 80% or higher, and the overall average overlap rate reached 78.10%. These findings suggest that the proposed RDSS demonstrated strong performance in recommending rehabilitation plans and providing risk reminders, indicating its potential feasibility for use in clinical practice.

Objective and Methods This study introduces the adjustments for coalbed methane (CBM) production in the Yanchuannan CBM field‒the first deep CBM field in China. Deep CBM production in this CBM field faces challenges including strong heterogeneity of reservoirs, single arrangement mode of production well patterns, low applicability of conventional hydraulic fracturing, excessively long conventional production cycles, and a high proportion of inefficient wells. To address these challenges, a production capacity construction model for efficient deep CBM production of the field was developed through in-depth geology-engineering integration. Results and ConclusionsThe results indicate that the production capacity construction process of the Yanchuannan CBM field has undergone three stages: large-scale production capacity construction, addressing technological challenges, and technological innovations and their popularization. [Results and Conclusions] The following achievements were obtained: (1) The geological understanding of four critical indicators for the selection of optimal geological-engineering “sweet spots” and efficient CBM production. (2) The concept of fracturing through effective propping and key supporting technologies for reservoir stimulation. (3) The optimal and fast production technologies characterized by four stages, three pressures, and three aspects of control. Based on these achievements, the average cycle for acquiring gas shows was shortened from 240 d to 30 d, and the single-well production was significantly enhanced, with the daily gas production of directional and horizontal wells reaching 2.0×104 m3 and 6.5×104 m3, respectively. The deep CBM reservoirs in the Yanchuannan CBM field exhibit strong heterogeneity, causing difficulties with effective production. Given this, the work philosophy that consolidates overall deployment, implementation in batches, integrated assessment and construction, and rolling production capacity construction was developed for production capacity construction. Adhering to this work philosophy, the production capacity construction was performed through continuous assessment and adjustment of geological-engineering sweet spots and timely optimization of production schemes to effectively avoid the co-occurrence of a substantial number of inefficient wells. This increased the fulfillment rate of production capacity from the initial 84% to 100%, suggesting significantly enhanced economic effects. Based on the concept of geology-engineering integration and the full life cycle of gas reservoir development that consists of well emplacement, well drilling and completion, reservoir stimulation, well tests and production, and gathering, transportation, and processing, the following outcomes were obtained: (1) Rational well spacing that matches reserves, well patterns, and fracture networks, increasing single-well producing reserves by 30% to 50%. (2) The optimal well drilling and completion technology focusing on speed increase and cost reduction, improving the drilling speed by 34%. (3) The low-pressure gathering and transportation technology involving high- and low-pressure gathering and transportation, three-stage pressurization, and inter-station connection, reducing the platform investment by 10.8% and the land use by 20%. The geology-engineering integration practices in the Yanchuannan CBM field provide technical support for the deep CBM industry, holding great demonstration and promotion significance.

Deep high-rank coal seams have significant resource potential, but exhibit characteristics of "strong adsorption and weak desorption", making it challenging to effectively utilize with conventional development methods. Compared with other enhanced recovery technologies such as chemical flooding and thermal flooding, CO2-ECBM (CO2 geological sequestration-Enhanced Coal Bed Methane Recovery) technology offers dual benefits of energy conservation and emission reduction, and increased recovery rates of coalbed methane. In order to clarify the characteristics of CO2 adsorption and desorption, demonstrate the feasibility of CO2-ECBM technology in enhancing the recovery of deep high-rank coalbed methane, and help release the productivity of deep high-rank coalbed methane, this study focused on the Jinzhong block, Qinshui Basin, and conducted experimental research on the CO2 adsorption and desorption characteristics of deep high-rank coal seams. The research results showed that the adsorption capacity of CH4 in coal seams increased gradually with rising equilibrium pressures. In contrast, the adsorption capacity of CO2 in coal seams initially increased, then sharply dropped near the critical pressure, followed by a significant rise, which was influenced by the pore and fracture development characteristics of the coal seams and the properties of CO2. The adsorption capacity of CO2 in deep high-rank coal seams was about 2 to 5 times that of CH4, and the adsorption capacity of supercritical CO2 in coal seams was stronger. The sensitive desorption pressure of CO2 was 3/4 of that of CH4. Once adsorbed in coal seams, CO2 showed an obvious adsorption/desorption lag, with a large proportion of CO2 remaining in coal seams in the form of adsorbed storage and residual storage, which provided favorable conditions for large-scale CO2 storage and CH4 replacement. Through the analysis of experimental results, it was clear that developing CO2-ECBM in deep high-rank coal seams was feasible and could significantly enhance coalbed methane recovery. In field application, the pressure level of gas reservoir could be increased through methods such as advanced gas injection and increasing injection pressure, thereby enhancing competitive adsorption efficiency. Additionally, the low sensitive desorption pressure indicated a high backflow rate after CO2 injection, suggesting that CO2 recycling should be considered.

Broadband light absorption is important for applications such as infrared detectors, solar energy collectors, and photothermal conversion. We propose a facile and common strategy to fabricate light absorbers with strong ultra-wideband absorption. Due to their excellent thermoplastic forming ability, metallic glasses could be patterned into finely arranged nanowire arrays, which show extremely low reflectivity (∼0.6%) in the visible and near-infrared regimes, and a low reflectivity (∼15%) in the mid-infrared regime as caused by multiscale nano spacing, multiple reflections, and plasmonic behavior. The strong absorption at surfaces with nanowires provides excellent photothermal conversion properties. The photothermal properties show that a surface with nanowires can be rapidly heated up to ∼160 °C at a rate of 28.75 °C/s, which is 30 times higher than smooth surfaces. Meanwhile, a surface with nanowires shows a high photothermal conversion efficiency (ηPT = 56.36%). The fabricated metallic glass absorbers exhibit adaptability as they can be easily formed into various complex shapes and meet the requirements under harsh conditions. The outcomes of our research open the door to manufacturing high-performance absorbers for applications in photothermal electric power generation, desalination, and photodetectors.

Abstract Aims This study explores the clinical application of lung ultrasound scoring(LUS) combined with echocardiography in assessing right heart function in patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis(MHD) and those with elevated pulmonary artery systolic pressure(PASP), as well as the correlation between LUS and right ventricular(RV) function. Methods Eighty five patients who underwent MHD combined with elevated PASP, at the First Central Hospital of Baoding City were selected. Divided into three groups based on PASP, and perform echocardiography and lung ultrasound examinations. Compare the right heart function parameters and LUS among the three groups. Using Pearson correlation analysis to examine the relationship between LUS and right heart function parameters. Perform multivariate logistic regression analysis to identify predictive factors for RV systolic dysfunction. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and calculate the area under the curve(AUC) to compare the diagnostic efficacy of various parameters. Results Patients undergoing MHD exhibited varying degrees of reduced left ventricular (LV) and RV systolic function. Correlation analysis revealed that Tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE), Fractional area change (FAC), and Tricuspid annular peak systolic velocity(S') were negatively correlated with LUS(r = -0.81, -0.86, -0.69), while Right ventricular free wall longitudinal strain(RVFWLS) was positively correlated with LUS (r = 0.85, P

Abstract The global marine gravity anomalies are primarily recovered from geoid gradients in the along-track directions obtained through satellite altimetry. However, the accuracy of the gravity model is significantly constrained by the sparse geoid gradients in the cross-track directions. To overcome the scarcity of cross-track geoid gradients, we employ a mean sea surface model to calculate geoid gradients in multiple directions, thereby recovering marine gravity anomalies. A global marine gravity anomaly model with 1-arcmin grid was determined from an optimized mean sea surface model. The accuracy of this gravity anomaly model was assessed by shipborne gravity and released marine gravity anomaly models. By the combination of geoid gradients in multiple directions, the meridian components and the prime vertical components of deflections of the vertical achieved consistent accuracy. The accuracy of the gravity anomaly model is 4.31 mGal, derived from shipborne gravity anomalies. Furthermore, the accuracy of this model has been validated across various regions, encompassing different latitudes, bathymetry, and distances from the coastline. The new gravity anomaly model slightly outperforms the released model.

Abstract Background Autologous fat grafting (AFG) often needs multiple sessions due to low volume retention. Young adipose tissue demonstrates a more pronounced therapeutic effect; thus, the cryopreservation of adipose tissue of young origin is particularly crucial. This study investigated the protective effect of a new cryopreservation solution combining trehalose, glycerol, and metformin on adipose tissue. Methods This study initially examined the effect of various concentrations of metformin (0, 1, 2, 4, and 8 mM) on oxidative damage in adipose tissue to identify the optimal concentration. Subsequently, 1.5 mL of fresh human adipose tissue was subjected to freezing using trehalose + glycerol (TG group), trehalose + glycerol + metformin (TGM group), and the common cryoprotectant dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) + fetal bovine serum (FBS) (DF group). Samples were cryopreserved in liquid nitrogen for 2 weeks. After thawing, 1 mL of adipose tissue from each group was transplanted subcutaneously into the backs of nude mice. The cryoprotective effects on adipose tissue viability were evaluated during transplantation one month after transplantation. Abstract Background Colorectal neuroendocrine tumors with liver metastases (CRNELM) are associated with a poorer prognosis compared to their nonmetastatic counterparts. A comprehensive understanding of the tumor microenvironment (TME) heterogeneity between primary lesions (PL) and liver metastases (LM) could provide crucial insights for enhancing clinical management strategies for these patients. Methods We utilized single-cell RNA sequencing to analyze fresh tissue samples from CRNELM patients, aiming to elucidate the variations in TME between PL and LM. Complementary multidimensional validation was achieved through spatial transcriptomics, bulk RNA sequencing, and multiplex immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence. Results Our single-cell RNA sequencing analysis revealed that LM harboured a higher proportion of CD8 + T cells, CD4 + T cells, NK cells, NKT cells, and B cells exhibiting a stress-like phenotype compared to PL. RGS5 + pericytes may play a role in the stress-like phenotype observed in immune cells within LM. MCs in PL (PL_MCs) and LM (LM_MCs) exhibit distinct activation of tumor-associated signaling pathways. Notably, COLEC11 + matrix cancer-associated fibroblasts (COLEC11_mCAFs) were found to be significantly associated with LM_MCs. Cell communication analysis unveiled potential targetable receptor-ligand interactions between COLEC11_mCAFs and LM_MCs. Multidimensional validation confirmed the prominence of the characteristic stress-like phenotypes, including HSPA6_CD8_Tstr, HSPA6_NK, and COLEC11_mCAFs in LM. Moreover, a higher abundance of COLEC11_mCAFs correlated with poorer survival rates in the neuroendocrine tumor patient cohort. Conclusion Overall, our study provides the first single-cell analysis of the cellular and molecular differences between PL and LM in CRNELM patients. We identified distinct cell subsets and receptor-ligand interactions that may drive TME discrepancies and support metastatic tumor growth. These insights highlight potential therapeutic targets and inform strategies for better managing CRNELM patients.

Abstract Background Enhancing nursing undergraduates’ sense of coherence is crucial for the growth of the nursing workforce. Yet, existing research primarily examines the aggregate level of sense of coherence among nursing undergraduates and its correlations with other variables, overlooking the individual heterogeneity in nursing undergraduates’ sense of coherence in nursing. This study aimed to identify different subgroups of nursing undergraduates’ sense of coherence and explore the influencing factors pertinent to each subgroup. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted from May to June 2020 among 1,251 nursing undergraduates using convenience sampling. Latent profile analysis was employed to identify subgroups of nursing undergraduates’ sense of coherence, and multiple logistic regression was utilized to analyze the factors associated with each subgroup. Results Four potential subtypes of nursing undergraduates’ sense of coherence were identified: low sensitivity-low coping group (25.7%), high sensitivity-high coping group (29.7%), moderate sensitivity-moderate coping group (17.8%), and high sensitivity-low coping group (26.8%). Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that factors influencing nursing undergraduates’ sense of coherence included family financial situation, high school subject choice, religious beliefs, belief in having good interpersonal relationships, meaning in life, and professional identity. Conclusion The heterogeneity of nursing undergraduates’ sense of coherence suggests that nursing educators should provide targeted intervention guidance according to the potential category characteristics of nursing undergraduates’ sense of coherence; at the same time, they should strengthen the cultivation of nursing undergraduates’ meaning of life and professional identity to improve their level of sense of coherence, so as to promote the growth of the nursing workforce.

Abstract For sheet metals, anisotropy is a significant property affecting sheet metal forming processes. The anisotropy of sheet metals is caused by the rolling process, and several anisotropic constitutive models have been proposed under the non-associated flow rule to describe the deformation and stress anisotropies of sheet metals independently. However, most of them are based on yield functions that are only identified by the experimental data of orthogonal axes, or yield functions that are applicable to only the plane stress state. In this study, the yld2004-18p yield function, which can be used to analyze the three-dimensional stress state in multiple axes with high accuracy and acceptable identification cost, is used to develop a non-associated constitutive model and subsequently applied to sheet metal forming analysis. Finite element analysis results of circular cup drawing and hole expansion demonstrate the capability of the yld2004-18p-based non-associated constitutive model in more accurately describing both the deformation and stress anisotropies of sheet metals.

Abstract Background Lymphatic metastasis commonly occurs in patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma and medullary thyroid carcinoma. The clinical and imaging characteristics of recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) invasion by extranodal extension (ENE) of metastatic lymph nodes remain understudied. This study aimed to evaluate these characteristics in patients with thyroid carcinoma. Methods A retrospective cohort study was conducted on 77 patients treated between January 2012 and March 2024 with thyroid carcinoma demonstrating gross RLN invasion during surgery. Fifteen patients with gross RLN invasion by ENE of the metastatic lymph nodes were included. The primary endpoint was the percentage of preserved nerves. The secondary endpoints included vocal cord function and recurrence-free survival. Results Fourteen patients had papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC), and one had medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC). There was no case of distant metastasis in the series. In the PTC group, two patients presented with hoarseness. There were two (14.3%) cases of T1a, six (42.9%) cases of T1b, and nine (64.3%) cases with concomitant lateral lymph node metastasis. The stage of the MTC case was T3bN1a. Among all the cases included, ten (67.7%) and five (33.3%) right and left RLNs, respectively, were invaded by ENE of the central compartment lymph nodes. Ultrasonography showed lymph nodes wrapping beyond half of the circumference of the RLNs and indistinct boundaries between the nodes and RLNs. Seven patients (46.7%) had the tumor shaved off from the epineurium, and three (20.0%) had the integrity of the RLNs preserved with gross residual tumor. Permanent vocal cord paralysis occurred in two (13.3%) cases receiving neurectomy, of which one was of the PTC group, and the other one belonged to the MTC group. At the end of the follow-up period, two patients in the PTC group experienced locoregional recurrence. Conclusions Most patients with RLN invasion by ENE were asymptomatic. Sonography is feasible for assessing the location of metastatic lymph nodes in relation to the RLN in this preliminary study. Careful central compartment evaluation for patients with lymphatic metastases from thyroid carcinoma is conducive to nerve preservation and radical resection of lesions, especially for patients with MTC.

Abstract Background Obesity is a significant risk factor for severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) and is typically associated with increased intestinal permeability. Understanding the role of specific molecules can help reduce the risk of developing SAP. Claudin 11 (CLDN11), a member of the Claudin family, regulates the permeability of various internal barriers. However, the role and mechanism of CLDN11 in the intestinal permeability of obesity-related SAP remain unclear. Methods We evaluated intestinal permeability and the expression of CLDN11 in experimental obesity-related SAP. A recombinant adeno-associated virus carrying CLDN11 was used to treat experimental obesity-related SAP. The interaction between CLDN11 mRNA and insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA-binding protein 3 (IGF2BP3) protein was predicted through bioinformatics analysis and validated by RNA immunoprecipitation and RNA pull-down assay. Additionally, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) treatment in Caco-2 cells was conducted, and the IGF2BP3/CLDN11 axis was detected. Moreover, we conducted anti-TNFα therapy and evaluated intestinal permeability and pancreatic inflammation in experimental obesity-related SAP. Results Downregulation of CLDN11 was observed in the intestinal epithelial cells of experimental obesity-related SAP. When the expression of CLDN11 in intestinal epithelial cells of experimental obesity-related SAP was increased exogenously, intestinal epithelial permeability and pancreatic inflammation were relieved. Overexpression of CLDN11 reduced the paracellular permeability of Caco-2 monolayer cells, while knockdown of CLDN11 increased it. IGF2BP3 bound to and regulated the stability of CLDN11 mRNA. TNF-α treatment downregulated IGF2BP3 and CLDN11 in vitro. Anti-TNFα therapy reduced intestinal permeability, alleviated pancreatitis, and improved the expression of IGF2BP3 and CLDN11 in intestinal epithelial cells in experimental obesity-related SAP. Conclusion CLDN11 regulates intestinal permeability in obesity-related SAP. Mechanistically, an increase in TNF-α impaired the stability of IGF2BP3-dependent CLDN11 mRNA in obesity-related SAP.

Abstract The development of an efficient and durable photoelectrode is critical for achieving large-scale applications in photoelectrochemical water splitting. Here, we report a unique photoelectrode composed of reconfigured gallium nitride nanowire-on-silicon wafer loaded with Au nanoparticles as cocatalyst that achieved an impressive applied bias photon-to-current efficiency of 10.36% under AM 1.5G one sun illumination while exhibiting stable PEC hydrogen evolution over 800 h at a high current density. Specifically, by tailoring the GaN nanowires via a simple alkaline-etching step to expose the inner (10 $$\bar{1}\bar{1}$$ 1 ¯ 1 ¯ ) facets, we achieve a highly coupled semiconductor nanowire-cocatalyst heterointerface with strong electron interaction. The strongly coupled reconfigured GaN nanowire/Au heterointerface not only optimizes the electronic structure of Au nanoparticles to form abundant highly active interfacial regions, eventually realizing superior hydrogen evolution activity but also enables GaN nanowires to provide a stronger anchoring effect for Au nanoparticles, preventing the detachment of Au nanoparticles during the intense hydrogen evolution process. The proposed photoelectrode offers a feasible structure for overcoming the efficiency-reliability bottleneck of PEC devices for producing clean hydrogen fuel.

Abstract Regulator of cell death-1 (RCD-1) governs the heteroallelic expression of RCD-1-1 and RCD-1-2, a pair of fungal gasdermin (GSDM)-like proteins, which prevent cytoplasmic mixing during allorecognition and safeguard against mycoparasitism, genome exploitation, and deleterious cytoplasmic elements (e.g., senescence plasmids) by effecting a form of cytolytic cell death. However, the underlying mechanisms by which RCD-1 acts on the cell membrane remain elusive. Here, we demonstrate that RCD-1 binds acidic lipid membranes, forms pores, and induces membrane bending. Using atomic force microscopy (AFM) and AlphaFold, we show that RCD-1-1 and RCD-1-2 form heterodimers that further self-assemble into ~14.5 nm-wide transmembrane pores (~10 heterodimers). Moreover, through AFM force spectroscopy and micropipette aspiration, we reveal that RCD-1 proteins bend membranes with low bending moduli. This combined action of pore formation and membrane deformation may constitute a conserved mechanism within the broader GSDM family.

Abstract Background Various blood glucose (BG) variability-related indexes have been widely used to assess glycemic control and predict glycemic risks, but the association between BG variations and prognosis in non-diabetic patients with sepsis remains unclear. Methods The single-center retrospective cohort study included 7,049 non-diabetic adults with sepsis who had at least 3 records of bedside capillary point of care BG testing during the first day after ICU admission from MIMIC-IV database (2008 to 2019). Coefficient of variation and standard deviation of glucose (i.e., GluCV and GluSD), M-value, J-index, high blood glucose index (HBGI), and low blood glucose index (LBGI) were used to describe glucose variability, quality of glycemic control, and glycemic risk of patients with sepsis. The dose-response relationship between BG variability-related indexes and mortality was explored using multivariate logistic regression with restricted cubic spline (RCS) function. If the dose-response curve presented a J-shape with a specific threshold value, a linear threshold function instead of RCS would be employed. Results There is a J-shaped relationship between hospital mortality risk and glucose variability-related indexes in ICU patients with sepsis. The mortality risk remained relatively stable below the threshold of these indexes. However, over the threshold, the 28-day mortality risk increased by 2.82% (95% CI: 1.80–3.85%), 1.13% (95% CI: 0.66–1.60%), 1.96% (95% CI: 0.98–2.95%), 1.37% (95% CI: 0.57–2.16%), 11.19% (95% CI: 6.56–15.98%) and 39.04% (95% CI: 29.86–48.81%) for each unit increases in GluCV, GluSD, M-value, J-index, LBGI and HBGI, respectively. The effects of LBGI and HBGI on 7-day and 14-day mortality were more pronounced. Conclusions High levels of GluCV, GluSD, M-value, J-index, HBGI, and LBGI on the first day of ICU admission were important risk markers of hospital mortality among non-diabetic patients with sepsis.

Abstract “The narrative” is a complex cognitive process that has sparked a debate on whether its features age through maintenance or decline. To address this question, we attempted to uncover the narrative aging and its underlying neural characteristics with a cross-validation based cognitive neuro-decoding statistical framework. This framework used a total of 740 healthy older participants with completed narrative and extensive neuropsychological tests and MRI scans. The results indicated that narrative comprises macro and micro structures, with the macrostructure involving complex cognitive processes more relevant to aging. For the brain functional basis, brain hub nodes contributing to macrostructure were predominantly found in the angular gyrus and medial frontal lobe, while microstructure hub nodes were located in the supramarginal gyrus and middle cingulate cortex. Moreover, networks enriched by macrostructure included the default mode network and fronto-parietal network, indicating a higher functional gradient compared to the microstructure-enriched dorsal attention network. Additionally, an interesting finding showed that macrostructure increases in spatial contribution with age, suggesting a compensatory interaction where brain regions related to spatial-constructional ability have a greater impact on macrostructure. These results, supported by neural-level validation and multimodal structural MRI, provide detailed insights into the compensatory effect in the narrative aging process.

Abstract Background To improve the success rate of mini-implants, some surgical guides have been developed through digital technologies to achieve three-dimensional (3D) guided mini-implants insertion. However, there is no a surgical guide which can be applied for the insertion of infrazygomatic mini-implant. In this study, we introduced a two-trajectories surgical guide and investigated the success rate of infrazygomatic mini-implants under the guidance of the template. Methods An individualized surgical guide was fabricated based on the cone-beam computed tomography images, digital intraoral scanning images and the predesigned insertion plans. In the surgical guide group, 62 mini-implants were inserted between the maxillary first and second molars under the guidance of surgical guides (n = 62). In the historical control group, 54 mini-implants were placed by the direct manual method at the same site (n = 54). Then the mini-implant success rate in these two groups was compared. Results After implantation, 2 out of the 62 mini-implants fell off and a success rate of 96.8% was indicated in the surgical guide group. In the historical control group, 11 of 54 mini-implants fell off and the success rate was 79.6%. There was statistically significant difference between the success rate of two groups (P = 0.003). Conclusions The two-trajectories surgical guide is advantageous for the insertion of infrazygomatic mini-implant. Both the success rate and stability of infrazygomatic mini-implant were improved significantly with the use of the guide. But further studies with enlarged sample are needed to evaluate the accuracy and stability of the mini-implant placement.

Abstract Background Occupational noise has been associated with numerous adverse health outcomes. However, limited evidence exists regarding its association with obesity. We aim to investigate the effect of occupational noise exposure on the risk of overweight/obesity among workers, providing scientific evidence for the prevention and management of overweight/obesity in the occupational population. Methods This study included 3427 participants from two factories in Guangzhou, China. Individual occupational noise exposure levels were assessed using cumulative noise exposure (CNE). Body mass index (BMI) data were obtained from physical examinations. Linear and logistic regression models, restricted cubic spline, as well as subgroup analyses, were used to explore the association. Results In continuous models, each 1 dB-year increase in CNE was significantly associated with a 0.03 (95% confidence interval (CI): 0.00, 0.05) kg/m² increase in BMI. In categorical models, higher CNE levels were significantly associated with BMI (β = 0.54, 95% CI: 0.16, 0.92) and overweight/obesity (odd ratio (OR) = 1.57, 95%CI: 1.21, 2.04). Restricted cubic splines (RCS) analysis demonstrated a linear dose-response relationship between CNE and overweight/obesity (P for overall=0.013, P for non-linear=0.175). Additionally, shift and night work were identified as critical moderating factors, with a stronger association observed among workers engaged in shift and night work. Conclusion Occupational noise exposure is positively associated with overweight/obesity, particularly among those engaged in shift and night work. Thus, enhancing noise source management and promoting awareness among workers for prevention are imperative.

Abstract Objective This study aimed to identify risk factors for peripartum hysterectomy among pregnancies complicated by suspected Placenta Accreta Spectrum (PAS) in preoperative obstetric imaging screening. Methods Data were retrospectively extracted from the Longitudinal Placenta Accreta Spectrum Study (LoPASS), covering pregnancies with PAS from January 2018 to March 2023 at our institute. Patients were divided into Control and Hysterectomy groups based on whether they underwent hysterectomy. Sociodemographic, obstetric, and clinical characteristics were compared between the groups. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed on the characteristics with statistical significance to explore risk factors for peripartum hysterectomy. Results Among 523 pregnancies with suspected PAS, 20 underwent hysterectomy. The Hysterectomy group had a significantly higher mean age (34.50 ± 5.05 vs. 31.66 ± 4.43 years, p = 0.005) and pre-pregnancy BMI (26.35 ± 3.27 vs. 23.84 ± 3.99, p = 0.006). [Objective] To investigate the infection status and characteristics of HEV among voluntary blood donors in Ningbo, and to provide a basis for improving the blood screening strategy. [Methods] A total of 12 227 blood samples from voluntary blood donors in Ningbo from June 2022 to May 2023 were tested for HEV serology, enzymology, and nucleic acid testing. Furthermore, HEV gene sequencing was performed for genotyping analysis, and donors with reactive nucleic acid testing results were followed up to confirm their infection status. [Results] The reactivity rate of HEV Ag, anti-HEV IgM and anti-HEV IgG was 0.098%, 0.899% and 29.198%, respectively. There was no difference in the reactivity of anti-HEV IgM and anti-HEV IgG between genders, donation frequencies and donation types (P>0.05). In titanium matrix composites, the size and distribution of the reinforcing particles significantly impact their mechanical properties. Accordingly, in this work, TiC-reinforced Ti-alloy matrix composites were fabricated using the directed energy deposition (DED) technology. The influence of the varying process parameters on the microstructure and properties of the TiC-reinforcing particles and the α phase in the matrix was elucidated. The results revealed that process parameters had a notable influence on the morphology and distribution of the TiC reinforcing particles as well as the morphology of the α phase. A reduction in the pulse current and increasing scanning speed led to a significant decrease in the size of TiC reinforcing particles but offered uniform distribution. Concurrently, the morphology of the α phase changes from coarse lath-like to slender lath-like to irregular block-like. The combination of the TiC particles and the α phase with distinct characteristics resulted in significant variations in the room-temperature tensile properties of the TiC/Ti-alloy composites. The tensile strength of the TiC/Ti-alloy composites exhibiting optimal performance in this work reached 1412 MPa, which is ∼28% higher than that of the forged Ti-alloy matrix (1100 MPa). This research offers the groundwork for a substantial enhancement in the overall properties of titanium matrix composites.

Abstract Barley leaf stripe, a disease mainly caused by Pyrenophora graminea (P. graminea) infection, severely affects barley yield and quality and is one of the most widespread diseases in barley production. However, little is known about the underlying molecular mechanisms of leaf stripe resistance. In this study, the transcript expression profiles of normal and infected leaves of resistant Tibetan hulless barley (Hordeum vulgare L. var. nudum Hook. f.) variety Kunlun 14 and susceptible variety Z1141 were analyzed by RNA sequencing (RNA-seq). The results showed a total of 7,669 and 5,943 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were found in resistant and susceptible Kunlun 14 and Z1141, respectively, with 8,916 DEGs found between Kunlun 14 and Z1141. Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analysis of the 8,916 DEGs identified many significantly enriched categories and pathways, of which a plant–pathogen interaction pathway, containing a total of 102 genes (100 known genes and two novel genes), was found, that was very important for the study of the leaf stripe resistance mechanism. Using RNA-seq, small RNA sequencing (miRNA-seq) combined with degradome sequencing (degradome-seq), four pairs associated with leaf-stripe miRNAs and target genes were obtained, namely Hvu-miR168-5p and Argonaute1 (HvAGO1), Hvu-novel-52 and growth-regulating factor 6 (HvGRF6), Hvu-miR6195 and chemocyanin-like protein (CLP), and Hvu-miR159b and gibberellin-dependent MYB (GAMYB). Transformation of the important target gene HvAGO1 into Arabidopsis verified that HvAGO1 could against Botrytis cinerea. Then RNA-seq and miRNA-seq of Arabidopsis transformed with overexpressed of HvAGO1 were performed. Based on the above research results, we constructed a Protein-Protein Interaction (PPI) network of barley leaf stripe resistance. This study lays the foundation for the study of the barley leaf stripe resistance mechanism and provides new targets for the genetic improvement of disease-resistant barley varieties.

Abstract The increasing aging population and aging-associated diseases have become a global issue for decades. People over 65 show an increased prevalence and greater severity of periodontitis, which poses threats to overall health. Studies have demonstrated a significant association between aging and the dysfunction of neutrophils, critical cells in the early stages of periodontitis, and their crosstalk with macrophages and T and B lymphocytes to establish the periodontal lesion. Neutrophils differentiate and mature in the bone marrow before entering the circulation; during an infection, they are recruited to infected tissues guided by the signal from chemokines and cytokines to eliminate invading pathogens. Neutrophils are crucial in maintaining a balanced response between host and microbes to prevent periodontal diseases in periodontal tissues. The impacts of aging on neutrophils’ chemotaxis, anti-microbial function, cell activation, and lifespan result in impaired neutrophil functions and excessive neutrophil activation, which could influence periodontitis course. We summarize the roles of neutrophils in periodontal diseases and the aging-related impacts on neutrophil functional responses. We also explore the underlying mechanisms that can contribute to periodontitis manifestation in aging. This review could help us better understand the pathogenesis of periodontitis, which could offer novel therapeutic targets for periodontitis.

Abstract Traditional epidemiological studies are susceptible to confounding factors. To clarify the impact of metabolic syndrome and its diagnostic components on hepatocellular carcinoma, we conducted a preliminary mendelian randomization analysis with metabolic syndrome and its diagnostic components as exposures and hepatocellular carcinoma as the outcome. Another set of genetic data related to hepatocellular carcinoma was used as a validation cohort, repeating the mendelian randomization analysis and combining the two groups for a meta-analysis. Preliminary analysis showed that metabolic syndrome (P-value = 0.002) and waist circumference (P-value = 0.026) are significantly positively correlated with an increased risk of hepatocellular carcinoma. After multiple testing corrections, metabolic syndrome (PFDR-value = 0.013) remained significant, although the association between waist circumference (PFDR-value = 0.079) and hepatocellular carcinoma was considered suggestive, the meta-analysis further confirmed the impact of metabolic syndrome (P-value = 0.0002) and waist circumference (P-value = 0.0038) in increasing the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma. After adjusting for the genetic predictive effects of all exposures, waist circumference was found to be a key factor significantly influencing the relationship between metabolic syndrome and hepatocellular carcinoma. In summary, our study indicates that metabolic syndrome increases the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma, particularly among individuals with a larger waist circumference.

Abstract Deconvoluting drug targets is crucial in modern drug development, yet both traditional and artificial intelligence (AI)-driven methods face challenges in terms of completeness, accuracy, and efficiency. Identifying drug targets, especially within complex systems such as the p53 pathway, remains a formidable task. The regulation of this pathway by myriad stress signals and regulatory elements adds layers of complexity to the discovery of effective p53 pathway activators. Recent insights into p53 activation have led to two main screening strategies for p53 activators. The target-based approach focuses on p53 and its regulators (MDM2, MDMX, USP7, Sirt proteins), but requires separate systems for each target and may miss multi-target compounds. Phenotype-based screening can reveal new targets but involves a lengthy process to elucidate mechanisms and targets, hindering drug development. Knowledge graphs have emerged as powerful tools that offer strengths in link prediction and knowledge inference to address these issues. In this study, we constructed a protein-protein interaction knowledge graph (PPIKG) and pioneered an integrated drug target deconvolution system that combines AI with molecular docking techniques. Analysis based on the PPIKG narrowed down candidate proteins from 1088 to 35, significantly saving time and cost. Subsequent molecular docking led us to pinpoint USP7 as a direct target for the p53 pathway activator UNBS5162. Leveraging knowledge graphs and a multidisciplinary approach allows us to streamline the laborious and expensive process of reverse targeting drug discovery through phenotype screening. Our findings have the potential to revolutionize drug screening and open new avenues in pharmacological research, increasing the speed and efficiency of pursuing novel therapeutics. Abstract Background There is still no consensus regarding the correlation between TLS and the prognosis of lung cancer patients. This meta-analysis aimed to investigate the association between TLS and prognosis in patients with lung cancer. In addition, the prognostic value of TLS for the efficacy of immunotherapy was also studied. Methods We systematically searched the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases from database inception to November 1, 2023. The hazard ratio (HR) and corresponding 95% confidence interval (CI) for overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS), recurrence-free survival (RFS), progression-free survival (PFS) and disease-specific survival (DSS) were extracted and merged with STATA 14.0. The study protocol was registered with PROSPERO (CRD42024502483). Results A total of 17 studies comprising 4291 patients were included in this meta-analysis. The pooled results revealed that high TLS/TLS + patients had better OS (HR = 0.66, 95% CI: 0.50–0.88), DFS (HR = 0.46, 95% CI: 0.33–0.64), DSS (HR = 0.48, 95% CI: 0.39–0.60) and RFS (HR = 0.43, 95% CI: 0.33–0.57). High TLS/TLS + patients tended to have longer PFS than low TLS/TLS + patients (HR = 0.68, 95% CI: 0.35–1.35). Interestingly, in the Asia subgroup, the association between TLS and survival was especially significant, whereas there was no significant difference in Europe. In addition, in patients who received neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy, high TLS/TLS + was associated with prolonged DFS (HR = 0.21, 95%CI: 0.05–0.93). Conclusion High TLS/TLS + was associated with improved survival and an improved response to neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy in lung cancer patients, suggesting that TLS may be a prognostic biomarker and may also be a promising predictive marker for the response to neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy. However, additional original studies are needed to further confirm these findings.

Abstract Lampreys are early jawless vertebrates that are the key to understanding the evolution of vertebrates. However, the lack of cytomic studies on multiple lamprey organs has hindered progress in this field. Therefore, the present study constructed a comprehensive cell atlas comprising 604,460 cells/nuclei and 70 cell types from 14 lamprey tissue samples. Comparison of cellular evolution across species revealed that most lamprey cell types are homologous to those in jawed vertebrates. We discovered acinar- and islet-like cell populations despite the lack of parenchymal organs in lampreys, providing evidence of pancreatic function in vertebrates. Furthermore, we investigated the heterogeneity of lamprey immune cell populations. Natterin was highly expressed in granulocytes, and NATTERIN was localized to the lipid droplets. Moreover, we developed a transgenic mouse model expressing Natterin to elucidate the role of NATTERIN in lipid metabolism, whereas the browning of white adipose tissue was induced. These findings elucidate vertebrate cellular evolution and advance our understanding of adipose tissue plasticity and metabolic regulation in lampreys.

Abstract Correlating the bond strength with the macro strength of metals is crucial for understanding mechanical properties and designing multi-principal-element alloys (MPEAs). Motivated by the role of grain boundaries in the strength of metals, we introduce a predictive model to determine the grain-boundary energies and strength of metals from the cohesive energy and atomic radius. This scheme originates from the d-band characteristics and broken-bond spirit of tight-binding models, and demonstrates that the repulsive/attractive effects play different roles in the variation of bond strength for different metals. Importantly, our framework not only applies to both pure metals and MPEAs, but also unravels the distinction of the bond strength caused by elemental compositions, lattice structures, high-entropy, and amorphous effects. These findings build a physical picture across bond strength, grain-boundary energies and strength of metals by using easily accessible material properties and provide a robust method for the design of high-strength alloys.

Abstract Dual active sites with synergistic valence state regulation under oxidizing and reducing conditions are essential for catalytic reactions with step-wise mechanisms to modulate the complex adsorption sites of reactant molecules on the surfaces of heterogeneous catalysts with maximized catalytic performances, but it has been rarely explored. In this work, uniformly dispersed CuCo alloy and CoO nanosheet composite catalysts with dual active sites are constructed, which shows huge boost in activity for catalyzing water-gas shift reaction (WGSR), with a record high reaction rate reaching 204.2 μmolCO gcat. −1 s−1 at 300 °C for Cu1Co9Ox amongst the reported Cu-based and Co-based catalysts. A synergistic mechanism is proposed that Coδ+ species can be easily reduced by CO adsorbed on Cu and Co0 can be oxidized by H2O. Systematic in situ characterization results reveal that the addition of Cu can regulate the redox properties of Co species and thus modulate the adsorption properties of catalysts. Particularly, doping of Cu0 sites weakens the affinity of the surface to CO or CO2 to a moderate level. Moreover, it also promotes the oxidation of *CO to *COOH and the desorption of the product CO2, reducing the carbon poisoning of the catalyst and thus increasing the reactivity. The results would provide guidance for the construction of novel heterogeneous catalyst with dual active sites and clarify its underlying reactivity enhancement mechanism induced by the tunning of valence state of metal centers for heterogeneous catalytic reactions.

Abstract Supported nanocatalysts are crucial for hydrogen production, yet their activity and stability are challenging to manage due to complex metal-support interfaces. Herein, we design Pt@ anatase&rutile-TiO2 with a strong-weak dual interface by modifying TiO2 using high-energy ball milling and in-situ reduction to vary surface energies. Experiments and density functional theory calculations reveal that the strong Pt-anatase TiO2 interface enhances hydrogen adsorption. In contrast, the weak Pt-rutile TiO2 interface facilitates hydrogen desorption, simultaneously preventing Pt agglomeration and increasing reaction rate. As a result, the tailored catalyst has a 529.3 mV overpotential at 1000 mA cm−2 in 0.5 M H2SO4, 0.69 times less than commercial Pt/C. It also possesses 8.8 times the mass activity of commercial Pt/C and maintains a low overpotential after 2000 cyclic voltammetry cycles, suggesting high activity and stability. This strong-weak dual interface engineering strategy shows potential for overall water splitting and proton exchange membrane water electrolyzer, advancing the design of efficient supported nanocatalysts.

Abstract Background Targeting exportin1 (XPO1) with Selinexor (SEL) is a promising therapeutic strategy for patients with multiple myeloma (MM). However, intrinsic and acquired drug resistance constitute great challenges. SEL has been reported to promote the degradation of XPO1 protein in tumor cells. Nevertheless, in myeloma, the precise mechanisms underlying SEL-induced XPO1 degradation and its impact on drug responsiveness remain largely undefined. Methods We assessed XPO1 protein and mRNA levels using western blotting and RT-qPCR. Cycloheximide (CHX) chase assays and degradation blockade assays were used to determine the pathway of XPO1 degradation induced by SEL. The sensitivity of MM cell lines to SEL was evaluated using CCK8-based cell viability assays and AV-PI staining-based cell apoptosis assays. The subcellular localization of the cargo protein RanBP1 was assessed via immunofluorescence staining. Immunoprecipitation coupled with mass spectrometry (IP-MS), bioinformatics analysis and ubiquitination assays, were employed to identify the molecular targets responsible for SEL-induced degradation of XPO1. shRNA-mediated knockdown assays and small molecule inhibitors of USP7 were utilized to disrupt the function of USP7. The role of USP7 in modulating SEL sensitivity was analyzed in MM cell lines, primary CD138+ cells, and xenograft mouse models. Results SEL promotes the degradation of XPO1 in MM cells through the ubiquitin–proteasome pathway. There is a positive correlation between XPO1 degradation and sensitivity to SEL in these cells. Inhibiting XPO1 degradation reduces the functional inhibitory effects of SEL on XPO1, as evidenced by decreased nuclear localization of the cargo protein RanBP1. USP7 stabilizes XPO1 in MM cells via its deubiquitinating activity. SEL accelerates the ubiquitination and subsequent degradation of XPO1 by disrupting the interaction between XPO1 and USP7. The expression of USP7 is negatively correlated with patient prognosis and the sensitivity of MM cells to SEL. Inactivating or knocking down USP7 significantly enhances the anti-myeloma effects of SEL both in vitro and in vivo. Conclusion In conclusion, our findings underscore the essential role of XPO1 degradation in the anti-myeloma efficacy of SEL and establish a research foundation for targeting USP7 to improve the effectiveness of SEL-based therapies in MM.

Abstract In the domain of spectroscopy, miniaturization efforts often face significant challenges, particularly in achieving high spectral resolution and precise construction. Here, we introduce a computational spectrometer powered by a nonlinear photonic memristor with a WSe2 homojunction. This approach overcomes traditional limitations, such as constrained Fermi level tunability, persistent dark current, and limited photoresponse dimensionality through dynamic energy band modulation driven by palladium (Pd) ion migration. The critical role of Pd ion migration is thoroughly supported by first-principles calculations, numerical simulations, and experimental verification, demonstrating its effectiveness in enhancing device performance. Additionally, we integrate this dynamic modulation with a specialized nonlinear neural network tailored to address the memristor’s inherent nonlinear photoresponse. This combination enables our spectrometer to achieve an exceptional peak wavelength accuracy of 0.18 nm and a spectral resolution of 2 nm within the 630–640 nm range. This development marks a significant advancement in the creation of compact, high-efficiency spectroscopic instruments and offers a versatile platform for applications across diverse material systems.

Abstract China witnessed an Omicron COVID-19 outbreak at the end of 2022. During this period, medical crowding and enormous pressure on the healthcare systems occurred, which might result in the occurrence of occupational burnout among healthcare workers (HCWs). This study aims to investigate the prevalence of occupational burnout and associated mental conditions, such as depressive symptoms, anxiety, PTSD symptoms, perceived social support, resilience, and mindfulness among HCWs of the Chinese mainland during the Omicron COVID-19 outbreak, and to explore the potential risk and protective factors influencing occupational burnout of HCWs. A multicenter cross-sectional study was conducted among HCWs working in the Chinese mainland from January 5 to February 9, 2023. A total of 6552 participants were recruited by convenience sampling. Data were collected on demographic characteristics, occupational burnout, depressive symptoms, anxiety, PTSD, perceived social support, resilience, and mindfulness by online questionnaires. Descriptive analyses were performed to describe the participants’ demographic characteristics. Univariate-Multivariate analyses were used to determine the influencing factors of occupational burnout. The results showed that the prevalence of occupational burnout and associated mental disorders, such as depressive symptoms, anxiety, and PTSD in HCWs were 44.56%, and 70.75%, 47.87%, and 37.49%, respectively. Older age, female gender, higher income, more doses of COVID-19 vaccine, a higher level of mindfulness, resilience, and perceived social support were protective factors of occupational burnout. Working as nurses, in a department currently taking charge of the treatment of COVID-19 patients, perceived high risk of contracting COVID-19 due to work, perceived high work intensity, and a higher level of anxiety and depressive symptoms were risk factors of occupational burnout. Tailored interventions on perceived social support, resilience, and mindfulness should be implemented to alleviate occupational burnout and associated mental disorders among HCWs.

ABSTRACT Objective Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is currently one of the most effective treatment methods for end‐stage hip joint disease, and its long‐term effectiveness largely depends on the accurate placement of the acetabular prosthesis. In conventional surgery, the placement of the acetabular prosthesis mainly relies on the surgeon's clinical experience and surgical techniques. To further improve the accuracy of prosthesis placement, a new robotic system for THA is designed. The purpose of this study is to verify the effectiveness and safety of THA assisted by this robotic system. Method A multicenter, prospective, randomized controlled, superiority study design was adopted with statistical methods of t test and Chi‐squared test. Participants undergoing primary THA have been enrolled in three centers of joint surgery in China since July 17, 2023. Robotic THA was operated in the experimental group, and conventional instruments were used in the control group. The primary outcome is the proportion of anteversion and inclination angles in the safe zone. The secondary outcomes include operation time, WOMAC score, Harris score, SF‐36 health questionnaire, dislocation rate of hip joint, and rates of adverse events and serious adverse events. Results A total of 138 patients were included in this study. The proportion of both anteversion and inclination angles in the safe zone was 92.2% in the experimental group and 50.8% in the control group, with significant difference (p 0.05). The dislocation rate of hip joint in the experimental group and control group were 3.0% and 1.5%, respectively, without significant difference (p > 0.05). The rate of adverse events and severe adverse events in the experimental group and control group also showed no significant difference (p > 0.05). No adverse events or serious adverse events were judged to be “definitely related” to the experimental instruments. Conclusion Robotic THA could prolong the operation time within an acceptable range, but more precise acetabular prosthesis positioning could be obtained when compared with conventional surgery. Besides, no significant difference was found in function scores, dislocation rate or other adverse events, which indicates that this new robot system shows both good effectiveness and safety in THA.
