Abstract

Growth and moulting of male adolescent snow crabs were investigated in a laboratory culture experiment. The moulting season of adolescents was separated into two groups of earlier and later, and they were regarded as normal and skip moulters, respectively. The existence of male snow crab skip moulters was first demonstrated in the Sea of Japan. Although the precise moulting season of the earlier moulter could not be revealed owing to the captive method, the later moulter is suspected to moult approximately 1 year after the earlier moulter. Earlier and later moulters were not different in growth of carapace width or chela height during the pubertal and terminal moult. Our moult and growth results of earlier and later moulters will be useful for predicting recruitment to legally fishable (>90 mm carapace width) or valuable (hard-shelled adult) populations of male snow crab in the Sea of Japan. Abstract

ABSTRACTMetamorphosis season of megalopae to the first crab stage in snow crab Chionoecetes opilioand red snow crab C. japonicuswas inferred by culturing wild-born megalopae collected from the Sea of Japan. Metamorphosis occurred from late June to late July (mainly in July) in snow crab, and from early July to early October (mainly from August to September) in red snow crab. The number of days required from the time of collection to metamorphosis was less than the intermoult period previously reported for snow crab megalopae. However, the developmental period of the megalopae was estimated as substantially longer in red snow crab than in snow crab. Previous studies have shown that the hatching season and the period of the zoeal stage in both two species are similar. These results suggest that a different metamorphosis season between the two species would be due to a difference in their megalopal intermoult period.

Abstract

We have calculated the observed flux from a relativistic accretion disk rotating around a Schwarzschild black hole and oscillating radially near the inner edge.It is assumed that the surface temperature in the oscillating region varies sinusoidally.We found that the amplitude of relative flux becomes of the order of 2% when the amplitude of the surface temperture variation is 5%.Due to the relativistic effects,the amplitude of relative flux is slightly larger than that for the nonrelativistic case.In addition,the amplitude of X-ray flux is also larger than that of bolometric one., 我々はシュバルツシルト・ブラックホールの周りに形成された降着円盤が,中心のブラックホールに近いところで動径振動を起こした際の光度曲線を求めた。その際,振動領域における降着円盤の表面温度の変化は,正弦関数的変化であると仮定した。その結果,相対的な光度変化の振幅は,表面温度の変化の振幅を5%とした時に,約2%であった。非相対論的な場合に比べると,相対論的な効果によって,相対振幅は大きくなっている。また,X線強度変化は全波長強度変化より大きくなっている事が分かった。

169. Self-Irradiated Accretion Disks around Schwarzschild Black Holes

Abstract

Due to a relativistic effect, the outer regions of an accretion disk around a relativistic object are selfirradiated by returning radiation from the inner regions. A certain fraction of radiation emitted from the disk surface returns to the disk at a different radius due to gravitational focusing effects. In the present analysis we calculated such returning radiation by the ray-tracing method, including gravitational light bending, gravitational redshifts, and Doppler effects. Using such a full relativistic numerical simulation, we recalculated the self-irradiated luminosity Lo of the disk as a function of the inclination angle for the case of the Schwarzschild black hole, and found that the ratio of Lo to the canonical disk luminosity L_d (i.e., the face-on disk luminosity without self-irradiation) is 0.18 when the disk is edge-on. We then obtained the structure and spectrum of self-irradiated accretion disks around a Schwarzschild black hole for the cases of X-ray binaries and active galactic nuclei. Depending on the main heating source, accretion disks are divided into inner viscous disks and outer irradiated disks. In the inner disk, where the viscous heating dominates, the surface temperature T varies as T x r^{-3/4}, where r is the radius from the center, whereas in the outer disk, where self-irradiation is substantial, it varies as T x r^{-3/7}. For typical parameters the boundary between the inner and outer disks lies at ～ 4.6 x 10^10 cm for X-ray binaries and at ～ 1.9 X 10^5 AU for active galactic nuclei, respectively. We also considered the effect of self-irradiation on the spectrum of accretion disks seen by a distant observer. In the high-frequency part, where radiation from the inner viscous disk is dominant, the observed flux vS_v varies as vS_v X v^{4/3}. On the other hand, in the low-frequency part, where radiation from the outer irradiated disk is dominant, it varies as vS_v X v^{-2/3}.

170. Relativistic Patchwork Disks around a Schwarzschild Black Hole: Light Curves and Spectrum

Abstract

We have calculated the observed flux from a relativistic accretion disk rotating around a Schwarzschild black hole. The disk is hypothesized to be patchworked by a non-radial wave pattern that propagates in the azimuthal direction. The surface emperature of a patchworked region was set to be slightly high in some regions and low in other regions. Due to the Doppler effect and gravitational lensing, the observed flux changes during the propagation of wave patterns. As a result, the light curves of such a patchwork disk change. We found that the amplitude of the light curves becomes of the order of 10%, in spite of the fact that the amplitude of the surface temperature is 5%. The light curves are asymmetric due to the relativistic effect. The spectra of this type of a patchwork disk were also calculated. As expected, the spectra become hard in the bright phase and soft in the dark phase.

Abstract

We have calculated the observed flux from a relativistic accretion disk which is rotating around a black hole and oscillating coherently in the vertical direction. The thickness of the disk is assumed to change sinusoidally and the oscillation is assumed to tape place isothermally. In the Newtonian regime, no flux change are expected during oscillation for such a case. In the relativistic regime, the observed flux from the disk changes periodically during oscillation because the apparent geometrical area of the disk changes due to the gravitational focusing effect(gravitational lensing)by the central black hole. We found that the flux change is anticorrenated with the thickness change. Abstract

AbstractGrowth and moulting of male adolescent snow crabs were investigated in a laboratory culture experiment. The moulting season of adolescents was separated into two groups of earlier and later, and they were regarded as normal and skip moulters, respectively. The existence of male snow crab skip moulters was first demonstrated in the Sea of Japan. Although the precise moulting season of the earlier moulter could not be revealed owing to the captive method, the later moulter is suspected to moult approximately 1 year after the earlier moulter. Earlier and later moulters were not different in growth of carapace width or chela height during the pubertal and terminal moult. Our moult and growth results of earlier and later moulters will be useful for predicting recruitment to legally fishable (>90 mm carapace width) or valuable (hard-shelled adult) populations of male snow crab in the Sea of Japan.
