Abstract

Puerarin in a Gegen(Pueraria)-based Chinese traditional medicinal preparations, Ganmao Qingre Granules, from four different pharmaceutical manufacturers and in two different dosage forms, were determined using RP-HPLC with methanol-5 mmol l(-1) KH(2)PO(4) (pH = 4.0) (V:V = 27:73) as mobile phase and UV detection at 248 nm. Ultrasonication and reflux were compared as pretreatment procedures for the sample. Linear range over 0.2-200 microg ml(-1) of puerarin was obtained, and the limit of detection was 0.1 microg ml(-1). Recovery was within 99.7-103%.

Abstract

Calcification and thrombus formation are still important problems in artificial heart research. The calcification and thrombus formation generated in artificial heart blood pumps, driven without anticoagulant for 312 days as the left side and 414 days as the right side, were analyzed in this study. A thrombus was observed at the circumference of the sac in the 312-day pump, but it was not associated with calcification. Several phenomena were observed on the polymer membrane valves (jellyfish valves) incorporated into the blood pump: plastic deformation of the valve membrane by creep fatigue; no calcification of stationary parts such as spokes and the center of the membrane; calcification of the particular portion which received repeated stretching stress; and no association of calcification with thrombus. The calcification of the valve area which received repeated stretching force might be explained as follows. Repeated stretching forces extend the polymer membrane, causing some loosening between polymer molecules and generating microgaps. Blood proteins and phospholipids invade these microgaps, which then attract Ca2+ ions followed by phosphate ions(PO4 2-) leading to the formation of calcium phosphate complexes.

Abstract

We present a new radio frequency identification tag anti-collision algorithm in this paper. The main idea of this algorithm is that we should find the collided bit at first, and every tag contains a register RC, which has length the same as the tag's ID length to store the conflict bit, then all the subsequent processing are based on the conflict bit. In this new algorithm, tag uses a binary pulse string to transfer data to the reader, compared with the traditional query tree-based algorithms, which is based on the tag's ID; this new algorithm is more efficient and requires fewer read cycles for tag's identification. Abstract

In this paper, using Monte Carlo simulation, we obtain different structures of chromatin fibers with different ionic concentration. The result shows that as the ionic concentration is increased, the fiber undergoes a conformational change from sawtooth state to super-helix state. The structural parameters obtained by simulation agree well with the experimental results, indicating that our model is useful in explaining the conformational change of chromatin fibers in different ionic solutions.

A high efficiency tapered fiber bundle (TFB) 7\,\times\,1 end-pumping coupler with a handle pumping power of 3.01 kW and a coupling efficiency of 99.4% was reported. The coupling efficiency of the TFB 7\,\times\,1 end-pumping coupler is calculated by the 3-D beam propagation method.
