Microbial fuel cells (MFCs) have the potential to directly convert the chemical energy in organic matter into electrical energy, making them a promising technology for achieving sustainable energy production alongside wastewater treatment. However, the low extracellular electron transfer (EET) rates and limited bacteria loading capacity of MFCs anode materials present challenges in achieving high power output. In this study, three-dimensionally heteroatom-doped carbonized grape (CG) monoliths with a macroporous structure were successfully fabricated using a facile and low-cost route and employed as independent anodes in MFCs for treating brewery wastewater. The CG obtained at 900 °C (CG-900) exhibited excellent biocompatibility. When integrated into MFCs, these units initiated electricity generation a mere 1.8 days after inoculation and swiftly reached a peak output voltage of 658 mV, demonstrating an exceptional areal power density of 3.71 W m−2. The porous structure of the CG-900 anode facilitated efficient ion transport and microbial community succession, ensuring sustained operational excellence. Remarkably, even when nutrition was interrupted for 30 days, the voltage swiftly returned to its original level. Moreover, the CG-900 anode exhibited a superior capacity for accommodating electricigens, boasting a notably higher abundance of Geobacter spp. (87.1%) compared to carbon cloth (CC, 63.0%). Most notably, when treating brewery wastewater, the CG-900 anode achieved a maximum power density of 3.52 W m−2, accompanied by remarkable treatment efficiency, with a COD removal rate of 85.5%. This study provides a facile and low-cost synthesis technique for fabricating high-performance MFC anodes for use in microbial energy harvesting.

In order to investigate the variations of cloud and aerosol vertical profiles over the Tibetan Plateau (TP) in winter, we performed ground-based lidar observations in Lhasa, a city on the TP, from November 2021 to January 2022. The profiles of extinction coefficient, depolarization ratio, and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) were retrieved using the atmospheric echo signals collected by the lidar. Clouds were identified by the range-correction echo signals and classified into water clouds, mixed clouds, horizontally oriented ice crystal clouds (HOICC), and ice clouds by the depolarization ratio and the hourly temperature from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts Reanalysis version 5 (ERA5). The clouds mainly appeared at a height of 3~5 km from 14:00–22:00 Beijing Time throughout the field campaign. The height and frequency (~30%) for cloud appearance were significantly lower than that reported in previous studies in summer. The cloud categories were dominated by mixed clouds and ice clouds during the observation period. The proportions of ice clouds gradually increased with increasing heights. After eliminating profiles influenced by clouds, the aerosol extinction coefficient and depolarization ratio were obtained, and the atmospheric boundary layer height (ABLH) was calculated. The aerosol extinction coefficient decreased with increasing height in the ABLH, and there were no obvious changes for the aerosol extinction coefficient above the ABL. The aerosol extinction coefficients near the Earth’s surface presented two peaks, appearing in the morning and evening, respectively. The high aerosols at the surface in the morning continually spread upward for 4–5 h and finally reached an altitude of 1 km with the development of ABLH. In addition, the depolarization ratio of aerosols decreased slowly with increasing altitudes. There was no obvious diurnal variation for depolarization ratios, indicating partly that the source of aerosols did not change significantly. These results are beneficial in understanding the evolution of cloud and aerosol vertical profiles over the TP.

The BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) has developed rapidly, and the combination of BDS Phase II (BDS-2) and BDS Phase III (BDS-3) has attracted wide attention. It is found that there are code ISBs between BDS-2 and BDS-3, which may have a certain impact on the BDS-2 and BDS-3 combined positioning. This paper focuses on the performance of BDS-2/BDS-3 combined B1I single-frequency pseudorange positioning and investigates the positioning performance with and without code ISBs correction for different types of receivers, include geodetic GNSS receivers and low-cost receivers. The results show the following: (1) For geodetic GNSS receivers, the code ISBs of each receiver is about −0.3 m to −0.8 m, and the position deviation is reduced by 7% after correcting code ISBs. The code ISBs in the baseline with homogeneous receivers has a little influence on the positioning result, which can be ignored. The code ISBs in the baseline with heterogeneous receivers is about −0.5 m, and the position deviation is reduced by 4% after correcting code ISBs. (2) The code ISBs in the low-cost receivers are significantly larger than those in the geodetic GNSS receivers, and the impact on the positioning performance of the low-cost receivers is significantly greater than that on the geodetic GNSS receivers. After correcting the code ISBs, the position deviation of low-cost receivers can be reduced by around 12% for both undifferenced and differenced modes. (3) For low-cost receivers, correcting the code ISBs can increase the number of epochs successfully solved, which effectively improves the low-cost navigation and positioning performance. (4) The carrier-phase-smoothing method can effectively reduce the distribution dispersion of code ISBs and make the estimation of ISBs more accurate. The STD values of estimated code ISBs in geodetic GNSS receivers are reduced by about 40% after carrier-phase smoothing, while the corresponding values are reduced by about 7% in low-cost receivers due to their poor carrier-phase observation quality.

Abstract Miscarriage is the most common complication of pregnancy. The most common causes of early miscarriage are chromosomal abnormalities of the embryo, maternal endocrine abnormalities, organ malformations, and abnormal immune factors. Late miscarriages are mostly caused by factors such as cervical insufficiency. However, the causes of 50% of miscarriages remain unknown. Recently, increasing attention has been given to the role of metabolic abnormalities in miscarriage. In this review, we mainly discuss the roles of four major metabolic pathways (glucose, lipid, and amino acid metabolism, and oxidation‒reduction balance) in miscarriage and the metabolism-related genes that lead to metabolic disorders in miscarriage. Depending on aetiology, the current treatments for miscarriage include hormonal and immunological drugs, as well as surgery, while there are few therapies for metabolism. Therefore, we also summarize the drugs for metabolism-related targets. The study of altered metabolism underlying miscarriage not only helps us to understand the mechanisms involved in miscarriage but also provides an important basis for clinical research on new therapies.

Afatinib, the world’s first irreversible ErbB family (containing four different cancer cell epidermal growth factor receptors, including EGFR, HER2, ErbB3, and ErbB4) inhibitor, is a second-generation oral epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor (EGFR-TKI). It can be used as a first-line treatment for locally advanced or metastatic non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with an EGFR-sensitive mutation or for patients with locally advanced or metastatic squamous lung cancer whose disease progresses during or after platinum-containing chemotherapy. Currently, with the use of third-generation EGFR-TKIs, afatinib is no longer clinically indicated as the first choice for patients with NSCLC who have EGFR-sensitive mutations. However, afatinib showed a considerable inhibitory effect in NSCLC patients with uncommon EGFR mutations (G719X, S768I, and L861Q) according to a combined post hoc analysis of the LUX-Lung2/3/6 trials. With the development of genetic testing technology, the detection rate of uncommon EGFR mutations is increasing. The aim of this paper is to describe in detail the sensitivity of rare EGFR mutations to afatinib and to provide information and a reference for those suffering from advanced NSCLC who have uncommon EGFR mutations.

This study aims to determine the ultrastructural changes in collagen fibrils in rabbit conjunctiva after conjunctival crosslinking using riboflavin and ultraviolet A (UVA) light at an irradiation intensity of 45 mW/cm2. Conjunctival crosslinking may increase conjunctival stiffness. The supertemporal quadrants of the right eyes of 24 adult rabbits were treated with a topical riboflavin solution (0.25%) before irradiation with UVA light at 45 mW/cm2 for 4 min. After 3 weeks, the collagen fibrils in fibril bundles were examined by electron microscopy. Immunohistochemical staining was used to detect the expression levels of collagen I and collagen III in the rabbits’ conjunctiva. The diameter of the collagen fibrils in the fibril bundles varied slightly, ranging from 30 to 60 nm in the conjunctival stroma of the control group. In the treatment group, the diameter of collagen fibrils ranged from 60 to 90 nm. The thickest collagen fibrils were observed in the treatment group (up to 90 nm in diameter). In contrast, those in the conjunctival stroma of the control group were considerably smaller (up to 60 nm in diameter). However, thicknesses of collagen fibrils displayed a unimodal distribution. Both collagen I and collagen III increased after treatment with riboflavin and UVA light irradiation at 45 mW/cm2. The data indicate that in rabbits, conjunctival crosslinking with riboflavin and UVA light at 45 mW/cm2 for 4 min is safe and does not induce ultrastructural alterations of the conjunctival cells. The conjunctival crosslinking with riboflavin and UVA light at 45 mW/cm2 can increase the diameter of collagen fibrils, but the average densities of collagen I and collagen III have no statistical significance.

Abstract Clinical diagnosis has high requirements for the resolution of medical images, but most existing medical images super‐ resolution (SR) methods are performed under a known or specific degradation kernel. However, the difference between the actual degradations and their assumed degradation kernels results in a severe performance drop for the advanced SR methods in real applications. This paper proposes a medical image blind super‐resolution model (Med‐BSR) based on an improved degradation process to handle this issue. The model makes each of the degradation factors in medical image blind SR, such as blur, noise, and downsampling, more complex and practical. Specifically, the authors use the random select/combine strategy to randomly arrange and combine the type and order of each degradation factor, which significantly expands the degradation space. The authors also improved the loss function of the primary enhanced super‐resolution generative adversarial networks (ESRGAN) network. The extensive experimental results demonstrate that the authors’ designed model can accurately restore the natural degradation process, which can reconstruct high‐quality SR medical images. It also has a good generalization ability to realistic images simultaneously.

ABSTRACTIntestinal dysbiosis frequently occurs in abdominal radiotherapy and contributes to irradiation (IR)-induced intestinal damage and inflammation. Akkermansia muciniphila (A. muciniphila) is a recently characterized probiotic, which is critical for maintaining the dynamics of the intestinal mucus layer and preserving intestinal microbiota homeostasis. However, the role of A. muciniphila in the alleviation of radiation enteritis remains unknown. In this study, we reported that the abundance of A. muciniphila was markedly reduced in the intestines of mice exposed to abdominal IR and in the feces of patients who received abdominal radiotherapy. Abundance of A. muciniphila in feces of radiotherapy patients was negatively correlated with the duration of diarrhea in patients. Administration of A. muciniphila substantially mitigated IR-induced intestinal damage and prevented mouse death. Analyzing the metabolic products of A. muciniphila revealed that propionic acid, a short-chain fatty acid secreted by the microbe, mediated the radioprotective effect. We further demonstrated that propionic acid bound to G-protein coupled receptor 43 (GRP43) on the surface of intestinal epithelia and increased histone acetylation and hence enhanced the expression of tight junction proteins occludin and ZO-1 and elevated the level of mucins, leading to enhanced integrity of intestinal epithelial barrier and reduced radiation-induced intestinal damage. Metformin, a first-line agent for the treatment of type II diabetes, promoted intestinal epithelial barrier integrity and reduced radiation intestinal damage through increasing the abundance of A. muciniphila. Together, our results demonstrated that A. muciniphila plays a critical role in the reduction of abdominal IR-induced intestinal damage. Application of probiotics or their regulators, such as metformin, could be an effective treatment for the protection of radiation exposure-damaged intestine.

The incidence of cervical cancer ranks third among all female tumours globally and second in developing countries. However, the role of eukaryotic translation initiation factor 3 subunit D (EIF3D) in cervical carcinoma is unknown. This study investigated the effects of EIF3D on cell progression of cervical carcinoma and its underlying mechanism in vivo and vitro models. There were increases of EIF3D expression mRNA and protein expression levels in patients with cervical carcinoma. Disease-free survival (DFS) and overall surviva (OS) of EIF3D lower expression in patients with cervical carcinoma was higher than those of EIF3D higher expression. EIF3D mRNA expression levels in cervical carcinoma cell lines (AV3, Hela229, CaSki and Hela cells) were up-regulated, compared with cervical normal cell line (UVECs). EIF3D promoted cell growth and Warburg effect in vitro model of cervical carcinoma. EIF3D interacting with GRP78 to reduce the activity of GRP78 in vitro model of cervical carcinoma. The inhibition of GRP78 reduced the effects of EIF3D on Warburg effect in vitro model of cervical carcinoma. Our work identifies EIF3D promoted cell growth and Warburg effect in vitro model of cervical carcinoma and the inhibition of EIF3D represents a potential therapeutic strategy for the treatment of cervical carcinoma.IMPACT STATEMENT What is already known on this subject? Implant restoration is currently the most mainstream method for repairing missing teeth. With the increasing number of plantings, various planting complications begin to be paid attention to. Among them, there are many reports of disability phenomena such as loose and broken abutment screws and broken top screws, which cause the implant to fail or fail to function. In recent years, with the development of computer-aided software and its application in the field of oral treatment, digital guide plates based on 3D printing of oral CBCT scanning data are widely used in oral implants. Therefore, we explore the application prospect of post-core crown restoration after removing broken screws from the implant abutment with a digital guide plate. We reported a case of upper right first molar implant abutment screws broken, which were removed by a digital guide plate and customized turning bur. The resin-matrix ceramics crown post core was prepared, and then the occlusal force was tested by the T-ScanIII system. It provides a reference for the application of digital guide plates in special cases such as broken screws of implant abutment.

In this paper, electrodeposition was successfully used to prepare a kind of polyester fiber flexible broadband shielding material based on PET fabric. The Ni-Fe alloy coating prepared by electrodeposition can completely and evenly cover the substrate. The maximum saturation magnetic moment was 93.16 emu/g. The sample with the highest permeability was prepared through the process exploration experiment. The permeability increases first and then decreases with the increase of Fe content in the coating. The phase with the highest permeability in the coating is Ni3Fe. The simulation results show that the shielding effect of Ni-Fe/Cu layer was better than that of Cu/Ni-Fe layers. The optimal shielding effectiveness can reach 28.4db in 10 kHz magnetic field and 80 dB in 100k∼10 MHz magnetic field. In the electromagnetic field of 30M∼18 GHz, the shielding effectiveness is greater than 85 dB, up to 110 dB. The tensile strength of the shielding fabric is 91.63 MPa, the displacement is small, and the material has no obvious elasticity. During the stretching process, the coating breaks first, and then the PET fabric breaks.
