Abstract

Based on the generalized Newtonian fluid constitutive equation, using ARD-RSC fiber orientation model, numerical simulation was used to predict fiber orientation distribution of the long-glass fiber reinforced composite injection molding components by considering the interaction between fibers. The fiber homogenized RVE model of long glass fiber reinforced composites was established through the composite material micromechanics Eshelby inclusion theory and Mean Field homogenization method. By using composite meso-scale modeling, discrete RVE model field, injection molding and structural finite element analysis techniques, the strength of long glass fiber reinforced composites analytical method was proposed. The strength analysis of the thrust-rod injection molded part shows that the simulated dangerous position is in good agreement with the actual damage location. On the basis, the structure of thrust rod is improved, the results show that the maximum principal stress of the rod is reduced by 57.18% under the tensile load and 71.25% under the compressive load.

Abstract

Rice blast caused by Magnaporthe oryzae is a dangerous threat to rice production and food security worldwide. Breeding and proper deployment of resistant varieties are effective and environmentally friendly strategies to manage this notorious disease. However, a highly dynamic and quickly evolved rice blast pathogen population in the field has made disease control with resistance germplasms more challenging. Therefore, continued monitoring of pathogen dynamics and application of effective resistance varieties are critical tasks to prolong or sustain field resistance. Here, we report a team project that involved evaluation of rice blast resistance genes and surveillance of M. oryzae field populations in Taiwan. A set of International Rice Research Institute-bred blast-resistant lines (IRBLs) carrying single blast resistance genes was utilized to monitor the field effectiveness of rice blast resistance. Resistance genes such as Ptr (formerly Pita2) and Pi9 exhibited the best and most durable resistance against the rice blast fungus population in Taiwan. Interestingly, line IRBLb-B harboring the Pib gene with good field protection has recently shown susceptible lesions in some locations. To dissect the genotypic features of virulent isolates against the Pib resistance gene, M. oryzae isolates were collected and analyzed. Screening of the AvrPib locus revealed that the majority of field isolates still maintained the wild-type AvrPib status but eight virulent genotypes were found. Pot3 insertion appeared to be a major way to disrupt the AvrPib avirulence function. Interestingly, a novel AvrPib double-allele genotype among virulent isolates was first identified. Pot2 repetitive element-based polymerase chain reaction (rep-PCR) fingerprinting analysis indicated that mutation events may occur independently among different lineages in different geographic locations of Taiwan. This study provides our surveillance experience of rice blast disease and serves as the foundation to sustain rice production.

Abstract

Background Neoadjuvant or adjuvant immunotherapy can improve outcomes in patients with resectable non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Perioperative regimens may combine benefits of both to improve long-term outcomes.Methods We randomly assigned patients with resectable NSCLC (stage II to IIIB [N2 node stage] according to the eighth edition of the AJCC Cancer Staging Manual) to receive platinum-based chemotherapy plus durvalumab or placebo administered intravenously every 3 weeks for 4 cycles before surgery, followed by adjuvant durvalumab or placebo intravenously every 4 weeks for 12 cycles. Randomization was stratified according to disease stage (II or III) and programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression (>= 1% or <1%). Primary end points were event-free survival (defined as the time to the earliest occurrence of progressive disease that precluded surgery or prevented completion of surgery, disease recurrence [assessed in a blinded fashion by independent central review], or death from any cause) and pathological complete response (evaluated centrally).Results A total of 802 patients were randomly assigned to receive durvalumab (400 patients) or placebo (402 patients). The duration of event-free survival was significantly longer with durvalumab than with placebo; the stratified hazard ratio for disease progression, recurrence, or death was 0.68 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.53 to 0.88; P=0.004) at the first interim analysis. At the 12-month landmark analysis, event-free survival was observed in 73.4% of the patients who received durvalumab (95% CI, 67.9 to 78.1), as compared with 64.5% of the patients who received placebo (95% CI, 58.8 to 69.6). The incidence of pathological complete response was significantly greater with durvalumab than with placebo (17.2% vs. 4.3% at the final analysis; difference, 13.0 percentage points; 95% CI, 8.7 to 17.6; P<0.001 at interim analysis of data from 402 patients). 177. Classification of Metal Handwritten Digits Based on Microwave Diffractive Deep Neural Network.

Abstract

Recently, optical diffractive deep neural networks (D2NNs) have shown unprecedented superiority in terms of processing speed and power consumption. However, in the microwave band, complicated classification based on D2NN needs further investigation, which may accelerate the artificial intelligent tasks and simplify systems. Here, a three‐layer D2NN is constructed for handwritten digit classification in the microwave frequency. The excited electromagnetic wave, which passes through the metal plane engraved with different digit patterns as the input, will focus on the target plane at designated focal points through the D2NN platform. A detector array is deployed to collect the target plane energy for direct digit classification. Each layer of the proposed D2NN is composed of 1024 phase modulating meta‐units, and the phase distribution is generated through the stochastic gradient descent algorithm applied on the dataset. The network realizes an accuracy rate of 90% in numeric simulations, together with a 100% accuracy rate on the eighteen fabricated samples on the built‐up platform. The average focal efficiency reaches 18.7% and 11.7% in the simulation and experiment, respectively. The system can be seen as an alternative method for seamless in situ monitoring of security checks and near‐field sensing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
