During the lifespans of most animals, reproductive maturity and mating activity are highly coordinated. In Drosophila melanogaster, for instance, male fertility increases with age, and older males are known to have a copulation advantage over young ones. The molecular and neural basis of this age-related disparity in mating behavior is unknown. Here, we show that the Or47b odorant receptor is required for the copulation advantage of older males. Notably, the sensitivity of Or47b neurons to a stimulatory pheromone, palmitoleic acid, is low in young males but high in older ones, which accounts for older males' higher courtship intensity. Mechanistically, this age-related sensitization of Or47b neurons requires a reproductive hormone, juvenile hormone, as well as its binding protein Methoprene-tolerant in Or47b neurons. Together, our study identifies a direct neural substrate for juvenile hormone that permits coordination of courtship activity with reproductive maturity to maximize male reproductive fitness.

Currently, advanced biomaterial design solutions often have more than two kinds of nanotechnology design strategies, but there is no suitable classification to describe these designs systematically. Based on the material design ideas and the modes of implementing functions, this article exemplifies and proposes a new nanotechnology classification that includes physical properties, the chemical reactions that respond to the microenvironment and bio-inspired incorporation. If two or more nanotechnology designs in the same classification are to be integrated into the same biological material, it is necessary to analyze the integration conflict between the designs. With the development of big data, this classification method may help researchers and artificial intelligence to realize automated integration of multiple designs and provide new material nanotechnology design integration solutions.

Integrons are mobile DNA elements that allow for acquisition and dissemination of antibiotic-resistance genes among pig farm-derived bacteria. Limited information is available on integrons of Staphylococcus aureus from pig farms. The aim of this study was to characterise and investigate the prevalence of class 1 and 2 integrons in multi-drug resistant (MDR) S. aureus isolates from pig farms.

Abstract Background Anthocyanins, which have important biological functions and have a beneficial effect on human health, notably account for pigmentation in purple-fleshed sweet potato tuberous roots. Individual regulatory factors of anthocyanin biosynthesis have been identified; however, the regulatory network of anthocyanin biosynthesis in purple-fleshed sweet potato is unclear. Results We functionally determined that IbMYB340 cotransformed with IbbHLH2 in tobacco and strawberry receptacles induced anthocyanin accumulation, and the addition of IbNAC56a or IbNAC56b caused increased pigmentation. Furthermore, we confirmed the interaction of IbMYB340 with IbbHLH2 and IbNAC56a or IbNAC56b via yeast two-hybrid and firefly luciferase complementation assays; these proteins could form a MYB340-bHLH2-NAC56a or MYB340-bHLH2-NAC56b transcriptional complex to regulate anthocyanin biosynthesis by binding to the IbANS promoter rather than the IbUFGT promoter. Furthermore, it was found by a transient expression system in tobacco leaves that IbMYB44 could decrease anthocyanin accumulation. Moreover, the interaction of IbMYB44 with IbMYB340 and IbNAC56a or IbNAC56b was verified. This result suggested that IbMYB44 acts as a repressor of anthocyanin in sweet potato. Conclusions The repressor IbMYB44 affected anthocyanin biosynthesis by competitively inhibiting the IbMYB340-IbbHLH2-IbNAC56a or IbMYB340-IbbHLH2-IbNAC56b regulatory complex formation. Overall, the present study proposed a novel regulatory network whereby several vital TFs play key roles in regulating anthocyanin biosynthesis, and it provides strong insight into the potential mechanism underlying anthocyanin biosynthesis in sweet potato tuberous roots with purple color.

Introduction and Objectives: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) starts with the abnormal accumulation of lipids in the liver. Long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) nuclear enriched abundant transcript 1 (NEAT1) was reported to modulate hepatic metabolic homeostasis in NAFLD. However, little is known about the molecular mechanisms of NAFLD. Materials and Methods: To establish a NAFLD cellular model, HepG2 cells and LO2 cells were treated with 1 mM free fatty acids (FFAs) for 24 h. NEAT1, miRNA (miR)-139-5p, c-Jun and sterol-regulatory element binding protein-1c (SREBP-1c) were evaluated using qPCR. The protein levels of c-Jun, SREBP1c, acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) and fatty acid synthetase (FAS) were determined using western blotting. Moreover, Oil Red O staining was employed to assess lipid accumulation. In addition, a kit assay was performed to evaluate TG levels. Finally, the interactions among NEAT1, miR-139-5p, c-Jun and SREBP1c were identified by dual luciferase reporter gene assay. Results: NEAT1, c-Jun and SREBP1c expression was markedly elevated, while miR-139-5p expression was reduced in the NAFLD cellular model. NEAT1 knockdown restrained lipid accumulation in the NAFLD cellular model by directly targeting miR-139-5p. Moreover, miR-139-5p overexpression suppressed lipid accumulation by directly suppressing c-Jun expression. In addition, c-Jun silencing suppressed lipid accumulation by directly targeting SREBP1c. Finally, miR-139-5p inhibition mitigated the inhibitory effect of sh-NEAT1 on lipid accumulation. Conclusion: NEAT1 aggravated FFA-induced lipid accumulation in hepatocytes by regulating the c-Jun/SREBP1c axis by sponging miR-139-5p, indicating the potential of NEAT1 as a promising therapeutic target for NAFLD.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most prevalent chronic liver condition worldwide. Numerous studies conducted recently have demonstrated a connection between the dysbiosis of the development of NAFLD and gut microbiota. Rebuilding a healthy gut ecology has been proposed as a strategy involving the use of probiotics. The purpose of this work is to investigate and compare the function of probiotics Akkermansia muciniphila (A. muciniphila) and VSL#3 in NAFLD mice. Rodent NAFLD was modeled using a methionine choline-deficient diet (MCD) with/without oral probiotic delivery. Subsequently, qPCR, histological staining, and liver function tests were conducted. Mass spectrometry-based analysis and 16S rDNA gene sequencing were used to investigate the liver metabolome and gut microbiota. We found that while both A. muciniphila and VSL#3 reduced hepatic fat content, A. muciniphila outperformed VSL#3. Furthermore, probiotic treatment restored the β diversity of the gut flora and A. muciniphila decreased the abundance of pathogenic bacteria such as Ileibacterium valens. These probiotics altered the metabolism in MCD mice, especially the glycerophospholipid metabolism. In conclusion, our findings distinguished the role of A. muciniphila and VSL#3 in NAFLD and indicated that oral-gavage probiotics remodel gut microbiota and improve metabolism, raising the possibility of using probiotics in the cure of NAFLD. Indoor safety concerns the safety of people′s life and property. Through indoor intrusion detection, it is possible to achieve early warning and avoid loss. Different from the common intrusion detection methods, the CSI(Channel status information) of the wireless communication signal WiFi is used to correlate with human behavior, which can achieve intrusion detection. The relationship between channel impulse response, channel frequency response and CSI is studied. The association between CSI and human behavior is verified using CSI dataset EHUCOUNT and machine learning method. The results show that the accuracy of intrusion detection based on SVM(Support Vector Machine) and CNN(Convolutional Neural Network) in six typical scenarios is 93.35%～99.23% and 89.17%～99.14%, respectively. Actual tests are carried out through collecting the WiFi signal using self-made spectrum sensor nodes. Experiment results show that intrusion detection accuracy is about 98%, which indicates that the intrusion detection based on WiFi signal is applicable to real scenario.

A novel approach using two-dimensional mixed baseline based on Multi-Input Multi-Output Synthetic Aperture Radar (MIMO-SAR) has been proposed for range delay and azimuth Doppler frequency modulation used in deceptive jamming. Based on MIMO-SAR phase coding method, which makes the multichannel signal orthogonal, we propose the detection of deceptive jamming phenomenon by employing multidimensional phase information, and suppress the jamming targets via phase compensation to improve the ability of countering deceptive jamming. Moreover, we utilize radar anti-jamming improvement factor as a quantitative evaluating index. In the limited platform space, the radar anti-jamming improvement factor of the proposed method is three times greater than that of conventional single-input multi-output systems. Experimental results demonstrate the validity of our method.
