Abstract

To study the rules of interference and protective measures on buried pipelines of high-voltage direct current (HVDC), the influence of different factors, including current into soil, soil resistance, damaged rate of coatings, and electrode-to-pipe distance, on pipe-to-soil potential deviation were simulated. Based on the simulated results, the fitted equations and interference judgment pattern were also obtained. The protective measures of insulation and cathodic protection can be performed for buried pipelines to prevent the interference, but the cathodic protection in the isolated area may become the stray current source of the other pipe section. This study can provide suggestions for the evaluation of interference and protective measures of pipelines of HVDC.

163. Large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses after successful curative therapy: a case report and literature review

Abstract

This report describes a 40-year-old male patient with symptoms affecting the nasal sinuses including nasal obstruction and olfactory anesthesia. Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated that the tumor eroded the adjacent bone and bilateral frontal lobes. The biopsy sample of the left nasal mass was processed for both H&E staining and immunohistological staining for various markers. The final histological examination showed large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma with poor differentiation. After a general evaluation, the patient was staged as cT4bN0M0. The patient was treated by combined radiotherapy and chemotherapy. The treatment yielded almost complete remission, and after 10 months of follow-up, no distant organ metastasis or recurrence in the primary tumor region was detected.We report this rare case and review the current literature of this tumor.

Abstract

This paper is concerning the asymptotic behavior of solutions to the fast diffusive non-Newtonian filtration equations coupled by the nonlinear boundary sources. We are interested in the critical global existence curve and the critical Fujita curve, which are used to describe the large-time behavior of solutions. It is shown that the above two critical curves are both the same for the multidimensional problem we considered.

Abstract

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) progression depends on cellular metabolic reprogramming as both direct and indirect consequence of oncogenic lesions. However, the underlying mechanisms are still understood poorly. Here, we report that miR-873 promotes Warburg effect in HCC cells by increasing glucose uptake, extracellular acidification rate (ECAR), lactate production, and ATP generation, and decreasing oxygen consumption rate (OCR) in HCC cells. Mechanistically, we show that miR-873 activates the key glycolytic proteins AKT/mTOR via targeting NDFIP1 which triggers metabolic shift. We further demonstrate that enhanced glycolysis is essential for the role of miR-873 to drive HCC progression. By using immunohistochemistry analysis, we show a link between the aberrant expression of miR-873, NDFIP1, and phospho-AKT in clinical HCC samples. We also found that miR-873 was up-regulated by HIF1α, a critical glycolysis-related transcription factor. However, BAY 87-2243, a HIF1α specific inhibitor, blocks miR-873 mediated tumor growth and metastasis in nude mice. Collectively, our data uncover a previously unappreciated function of miR-873 in HCC cell metabolism and tumorigenesis, suggesting that targeting miR-873/NDFIP1 axis could be a potential therapeutic strategy for the treatment of HCC patients.

Abstract

Efficient thermal management has become an important challenge for the integration and miniaturization of electronic devices with high power density. Phase change material (PCM)-based finned heat sink is an efficient passive cooling technology for an intermittent-use electronic device with high power density. The present work reports an experimental study on the transient thermal performance of PCM-based finned heat sinks for thermal management of electronic devices, with particular emphasis on the roles of heat load and PCM volumetric fraction. The temperature response and melting front evolution in heat sinks are analyzed and compared with the corresponding cavity. Moreover, the effects of heat load, fin geometry and PCM volumetric fraction on the melting performance of heat sinks are discussed. The results indicate the presence of fins effectively improves the thermal performance of PCM-based heat sinks, and a more fin number leads to a lower operating temperature and hence the duration of electronic devices is longer in an accepted temperature. Moreover, a higher input heat flux results in a higher operating temperature and a shorter duration of low operating temperature. The increase in PCM volumetric fraction enhances the thermal storage capacity of finned heat sinks and reduces the operating temperature. Therefore, the finned heat sinks filled with PCM ensure sufficiently low operating temperature for perfect reliability and duration of high-power-density electronic devices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The present research conducts an experimental study on the thermal performance of the finned metal foam (FMF) heat sinks with phase change material. The dynamic temperature response of an FMF heat sink is analyzed and compared with the corresponding finned heat sink. The effects of porosity and pore density on the thermal performance of FMF heat sinks are analyzed. Furthermore, the enhancement ratio and heat exchange capability are evaluated for the optimization of FMF heat sinks. The results indicate that the thermal conduction enhancement caused by the addition of metal foam exceeds the heat transfer loss arising from the suppression of natural convection. A decrease in porosity leads to an increase in heat exchange capability and contributes to a higher enhancement ratio. Considering the tradeoff between the low operating temperature and longer duration of reliability, the porosity of 0.9 is the best choice for FMF heat sinks. Though the porosity is identical, the thermal performance of an FMF heat sink is better with the increase of pore density. Considering the maximum energy charging capacities are identical, the FMF heat sink with larger pore density is recommended for practical engineering applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
