Abstract

Every year in the fall, the Qing emperor was to preside over ceremonies during which he was asked to check-mark the names of criminals condemned to capital punishment whom he reckoned were to be executed. This article proposes an understanding not only of these check-marking ceremonies under the Qing dynasty, but also of the judicial rehearing procedure of all capital punishment criminal cases, known as the Court and Autumn Assizes. Based on materials drawn from the Qing central archives and other institutional sources, as well as on the information found in officials' diaries, this study provides a dynamic and evolutionary analysis of the Assizes and the check-marking ceremonies, highlighting their position as central features of the imperial judicial process. By detailing their successive changes, it seeks to unravel their highly complex and bureaucratic nature and to better assess the exact role played by the various institutional actors they called into play, first and foremost, the sovereign. Abstract

This paper aims to improve the corrosion resistance of dispersive purging plugs. White fused corundum particles and fine powder, α-Al2O3 micropowder, Cr2O3 micropowder, Guangxi clay and zircon powder were used as the main raw materials. The mass ratio of white fused corundum particles and fine powder was fixed at 85: 15, and 0, 1%, 2%, or 3% (by mass) of zircon fine powder was added to replace the same amount of white fused corundum fine powder. The corundum porous material was prepared by the particle stacking pore-forming method at 1 650 °C for 3 h. The effect of the zircon addition on the properties and microstructure of porous materials was investigated. The results show that: after adding zircon, the permeability of the porous material increases, the cold and hot strengths increase obviously, and the expansion rate after firing decreases. When the addition of zircon is 2%, the comprehensive performance of the specimen is optimal with the smallest linear change rate and the highest permeability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

LTE-M vehicle-ground wireless system based on 1.8 GHz dedicated frequency band is superior to WLAN in terms of security, delay, communication quality, coverage, adaptability to higher speed and interconnection. It has become the standard configuration for carrying CBTC service of signaling system. This paper analyzes the key elements in different stages of LTE-M replacing WLAN without affecting the operation of existing lines, and puts forward the vehicle ground wireless system renovation scheme of urban rail transit signaling system, which provides reference for similar projects. Abstract

The contact lens (CL) industry has made great strides in improving CL-wearing experiences. However, a large amount of CL wearers continue to experience ocular dryness, known as contact lens-induced dry eye (CLIDE), stemming from the reduction in tear volume, tear film instability, increased tear osmolarity followed by inflammation and resulting in ocular discomfort and visual disturbances. In this article, to address tear film thinning between the CL and the ocular surface, the concept of using a CL with microchannels to deliver the tears from the pre-lens tear film (PrLTF) to the post-lens ocular surface using in vitro eye-blink motion is investigated. This study reports an eye-blink mimicking system with microfluidic poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (poly(HEMA)) hydrogel with integrated microchannels to demonstrate eye-blink assisted flow through microchannels. This in vitro experimental study provides a proof-of-concept result that tear transport from PrLTF to post-lens tear film can be enhanced by an artificial eyelid motion in a pressure range of 0.1–5 kPa (similar to human eyelid pressure) through poly(HEMA) microchannels. Abstract

Autonomous one-shot on-the-fly learning copes with the high privacy, small dataset, and in-stream data at the edge. Implementing such learning on digital hardware suffers from the well-known von-Neumann and scaling bottlenecks. The optical neural networks featuring large parallelism, low latency, and high efficiency offer a promising solution. However, ex-situ training of conventional optical networks, where optical path configuration and deep learning model optimization are separated, incurs hardware, energy and time overheads, and defeats the advantages in edge learning. Here, we introduced a bio-inspired material-algorithm co-design to construct a hydrogel-based optical Willshaw model (HOWM), manifesting Hebbian-rule-based structural plasticity for simultaneous optical path configuration and deep learning model optimization thanks to the underlying opto-chemical reactions. We first employed the HOWM as an all optical in-sensor AI processor for one-shot pattern classification, association and denoising. We then leveraged HOWM to function as a ternary content addressable memory (TCAM) of an optical memory augmented neural network (MANN) for one-shot learning the Omniglot dataset. The HOWM empowered one-shot on-the-fly edge learning leads to 1000× boost of energy efficiency and 10× boost of speed, which paves the way for the next-generation autonomous, efficient, and affordable smart edge systems. Abstract

Under the new development pattern of dual circulation economy, the reform of state-owned enterprises has entered the deep water area, and the operating environment of power grid enterprises has changed significantly, which has a profound impact on the capital operation strategy and effect of the enterprises. This paper analyzes the new characteristics of capital operation of power grid enterprises under the new development pattern, constructs the incentive and restriction index system of capital operation of power grid enterprises, designs the incentive and restraint mechanism of capital operation of power grid enterprises, and verifies the scientificity and applicability of the mechanism by financial evaluation and analysis. The research results enrich the theory of capital operation management based on financial evaluation, and provide theoretical basis and practical reference for grid enterprises to optimize the distribution of capital investment and improve the efficiency of capital operation.

Abstract

This is the first study investigating the nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 2 (NRF2) activity of compounds containing a new scaffold, tetrahydrobenzo[b]thiophene. Eighteen compounds were synthesised and confirmed their NRF2 activation through NQO1 enzymatic activity and mRNA expression of NQO1 and HO-1 in Hepa-1c1c7 cells.
