Context: The Chinese herbal prescription JieZe-1 (JZ-1) is effective against HSV-2 (Herpes simplex virus type 2) infection. However, its mechanism remains unclear. Objective: To explore the mechanism of JZ-1 in protecting against HSV-2 infection. Materials and methods: Using the methods of network pharmacology, the hub components and targets were screened and functionally enriched. We established a genital herpes (GH) mouse model and observe the disease characteristics. Then, the GH mice in different groups (10 per/group) were treated with 20 lL JZ-1 gel (2.5, 1.5, and 0.5 g/mL), acyclovir gel (0.03 g/mL), or plain carbomer gel twice a day. The symptom score, vulvar histomorphology, and virus load were measured. The critical proteins of caspase-1-dependent pyroptosis were analysed by microscopy, co-immunoprecipitation, western blotting, and ELISA. Molecular docking was also performed. Results: Network pharmacology analysis identified 388 JZ-1 targets related to HSV-2 infection, with 36 hub targets and 21 hub components screened. The TCID50 of HSV-2 was 1×10-7/0.1 mL. JZ-1 gel (2.5 g/mL) can effectively reduce the symptom score (81.23%), viral load (98.42%) and histopathological changes, and significantly inhibit the proteins expression of caspase-1-dependent pyroptosis in GH mice (p< 0.05). The molecular docking test showed a good binding potency between 11 components and caspase-1 or interleukin (IL)-1β. Discussion and conclusions: The present study demonstrated that JZ-1 protected mice from HSV-2 infection and inhibit the caspase-1-dependent pyroptosis in GH mice. In this paper, a mathematical model has been developed to quantitatively examine the effect of viscosity and heterogeneity on dispersion in porous media at the pore scale during miscible flooding processes. More specifically, the Navier-Stokes equation and advection-diffusion equation are coupled with supplementary equations to describe the solvent transport behaviour. Two-dimensional heterogeneous models are numerically developed as a function of porosity and permeability, assuming that the grain sizes satisfy normal distribution. In addition, the performance of miscible hydrocarbon gas injection in heterogeneous porous media is comprehensively evaluated. It is found that a larger aspect ratio (ratio of pore throat size) in the single non-flowing pore model results in a greater asymmetry of the concentration curve. As for single non-flowing pore models and heterogeneous models, the dispersion coefficients increase with the expansion of the non-flowing domain. Both the heterogeneity of porous media and the variable viscosity of the fluid mixture contribute to the asymmetry of the concentration curve in the heterogeneous model. A negative correlation is established between the sorting coefficients of pore throat size and the power-law coefficients. As for slug injection, the injected solvent slug size along the longitudinal direction does not effectively influence the longitudinal length of the mixing zone for a given porous medium and fluids, though the Peclet number and the porosity greatly affect the length and concentration distribution of the mixing zone. We report a scanning focused laser technique for pixel-by-pixel activation of the screen-printed carbon nanotube cathodes for field emission flat panel displays. The turn-on and working field of the cathodes became as low as 1.96 V µm[?]1 and 2.70 V µm[?]1, respectively, after 57 kW cm[?]2 laser irradiation. The current density even reached 4.00 mA cm[?]2 at 2.90 V µm[?]1, which was 1285 times larger than the untreated one. This dramatic enhancement is due to the fact that the focused laser can remove not only the surface contamination, but can change the geometric structure of the treated pixel as well. Since the Paleozoic, the tectonic evolutionary process of eastern Eurasia has been affected by at least three paleo-ocean regimes: the Paleo-Asian Ocean, the Mongol-Okhotsk Ocean, and the Paleo-Pacific Ocean. However, the tectonic transition among these ocean regimes is not well understood. Recently, the Heilongjiang Ocean was proposed to play an important role during the transition from the Paleo-Asian Ocean regime to the Mongol-Okhotsk Ocean (and later the Paleo-Pacific Ocean) regime. Here we report on a new combined study of petrological, geochemical, and geochronological data of biotite-plagioclase gneisses from the Qinglongcun Complex in the west Jiamusi-Khanka Block to better understand the tectonic evolution during this transition period. The results show that the protoliths of these biotite-plagioclase gneisses are medium-K calcalkaline rhyolites that were derived from a volcanic island arc environment related to paleo-oceanic subduction that occurred at ca. 260 Ma. Integrated with previous studies of the Permian arc-affinity rocks within the Jiamusi-Khanka Block, we identified two island arc magmatic belts with ages of ca. 290 Ma and ca. 260 Ma at the east and west margins of Jiamusi-Khanka Block, respectively. The east island arc magmatic belt was related to subduction of the Mongol-Okhotsk Ocean during the Early-middle Permian, which provided a driving force for the opening of the Heilongjiang Ocean. Subduction of the Heilongjiang Ocean during the middle-Late Permian resulted in the west arc island magmatic belt. These two belts provide key evidence for understanding the tectonic transition from the Paleo-Asian Ocean to the Mongol-Okhotsk Ocean to the Paleo-Pacific Ocean during the late Paleozoic to early Mesozoic. Background: Up-regulation of UHRF1 has been observed in a variety of cancers and appears to serve as an independent prognostic factor. Objective: To explore the effect of UHRF1 gene silencing on apoptosis and proliferation of cervical squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC) CaSki cells. Methods: This study consisted of 47 CSCC tissues and 40 normal cervical tissues. The CaSki cells were assigned into Blank group (CaSki cells not transfected), NC group (CaSki cells transfected with control siRNA), and UHRF1 Silence group (CaSki cells transfected with UHRF1 siRNA). qRT-PCR and Western blot were used for UHRF1 mRNA and protein expressions, CKK-8 assay for cell proliferation, flow cytometry for cell cycle and apoptosis, Western blot for expressions of apoptosis-related proteins. Nude mice tumor transplant experiment was performed. Results: UHRF1 exhibited higher mRNA and protein expressions in the CSCC tissues than normal cervical tissues (both P < 0.05). The cell proliferation ability in the UHRF1 Silence group was reduced when compared with the Blank group and the NC group, the cells at S-G2M stage in the UHRF1 Silence group were dropped when compared with the Blank group and the NC group (P < 0.05), while the cells at G0/G1 stage were elevated (P < 0.05), and the proportion of Annexin V positive cells in the UHRF1 Silence group was increased in comparison with the Blank group and the NC group (P < 0.05). Nude mice tumor transplant experiment indicated that the growth rate and weight of tumor in the Blank group and NC group was higher and heavier than the UHRF1 Silence group (P < 0.05). Metal-support interaction in rhodium-perovskite systems was studied using LSF (La0.6Sr0.4FeO3− δ) and STF (SrTi0.7Fe0.3O3− δ) supports to disentangle different manifestations of strong or reactive metal-support interaction. Electron microscopy and catalytic characterization in methane steam reforming/CO2 methanation reveal that reduction in hydrogen at 673 K and 873 K causes different extents of Fe exsolution. Depending on the perovskite reducibility, Fe-Rh alloy particles are observed. No signs of strong metal-support interaction (i.e., encapsulation of metal particles) by reduced oxide species were observed. As re-oxidation in oxygen at 873 K did not fully restore the initial structures, the interaction between Rh and the perovskites manifests itself in irreversible alloy formation. Catalytic effects are the suppression of methane reactivity with increasing prereduction temperature. Technologicallycontrolling nanostructures is essential to tailoring the functionalitiesand properties of nanomaterials. Various methods free from lithography-basedtechniques have been employed to fabricate 2D nanostructures; howeverit is still hard to achieve a well interconnected 2D regular nanostructure.Here, we demonstrate a facile chemical solution method to self-assemblea regular and interconnected VO2nanonet on the wafer scale.The nanonet shows a well-defined 2D truss network constructed by VO2nanorods with twinning relationships. The growth directionand crystallographic orientation of nanorods are synchronously controlled,leading to horizontally epitaxial growth of nanorods along three symmetricdirections of the (001) single-crystal sapphire substrate. The uniquenanonets enable the acquisition of excellent resistance switchingproperties and dramatic fatigue endurance. A large resistance changeof near 5 orders with a 1.7 °C width of the hysteresis loop ischaracterized comparably to the properties of single crystals withoutdetectable degradation after 500 cycles over the metal-to-insulatortransition. It indicates that the nanonet can serve as an exceptionalcandidate for practical application in switching functional devices.Our findings offer a novel pathway for self-assembly of 2D orderednanostructures, which would provide new opportunities for the bottom-upintegration of nanodevices. Background: Observational studies suggest that sleep disturbances are commonly associated with schizophrenia. However, it is uncertain whether this relationship is causal. To investigate the bidirectional causal relation between sleep traits and schizophrenia, we performed a two-sample bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) study with the fixed effects inverse-variance weighted (IVW) method. Methods: As genetic variants for sleep traits, we selected variants from each meta-analysis of genome-wide association studies (GWASs) conducted using data from the UK Biobank (UKB). Results: We found that morning diurnal preference was associated with a lower risk of schizophrenia, while long sleep duration and daytime napping were associated with a higher risk of schizophrenia. Multivariable MR analysis also showed that sleep duration was associated with a higher risk of schizophrenia after adjusting for other sleep traits. Furthermore, genetically predicted schizophrenia was negatively associated with morning diurnal preference and short sleep duration and was positively associated with daytime napping and long sleep duration. This investigation examined Pakistani Muslim understandings of the animal sacrifice that occurs during Eid-ul-Adha at the end of the Hajj. Pakistani university students (N = 156) responded to a number of items expressing possible interpretations of this ritual. A Faithful Sacrifice factor operationalized sincere religious reasons for the sacrifice and correlated positively with an Intrinsic Religious Orientation and with Muslim Experiential Religiousness. Extrinsic and Troublesome Sacrifice factors recorded nonreligious implications of the practice and displayed direct associations with the Extrinsic Social Religious Orientation and inverse linkages with Muslim Experiential Religiousness. Extrinsic Sacrifice also correlated negatively with the Intrinsic Orientation. These results further documented the complexity of Muslim beliefs and practices and once again illustrated how a dialectic between tradition-specific and more general social scientific perspectives can promote progress in the psychology of religion. Conventional dissociation-enhanced lanthanide fluoroimmunoassays (DELFIA) using molecular probes suffer from a low labeling ratio of lanthanide ions (Ln3+) per biomolecule. Herein, we develop a unique bioassay based on the dissolution-enhanced luminescence of inorganic lanthanide nanoparticles (NPs). As a result of the highly concentrated Ln3+ ions in a single Ln3+ NP, an extremely high Ln3+ labeling ratio can be achieved, which amplifies significantly the luminescence signal and thus improves the detection sensitivity compared to DELFIA. Utilizing sub-10 nm NaEuF4 NPs as dissolution-enhanced luminescent nanoprobes, we demonstrate the successful in vitro detection of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA, an important tumor marker) in human serum samples with a record-low detection limit of 0.1 pgmL1 (0.5 fm). This value is an improvement of approximately 3 orders of magnitude relative to that of DELFIA. Tea leaf spot, caused by Lasiodiplodia theobromae, is an important disease that can seriously decrease the production and quality of tea (Camellia sinensis (L.) O. Kuntze) leaves. The analysis of circular RNA (circRNA) in tea leaves after infection by the pathogen could improve understanding about the mechanism of host-pathogen interactions. In this study, high-performance sequencing of circRNA from C. sinensis Fuding-dabaicha leaves that had been infected with L. theobromae was conducted using the Illumina HiSeq 4000 platform. In total, 192 and 153 differentially expressed circRNAs from tea leaves were significantly up- and downregulated, respectively, after infection with L. theobromae. A gene ontology analysis indicated that the differentially expressed circRNA-hosting genes for DNA binding were significantly enriched. The genes with significantly differential expressions that were annotated in the specified database (S genes) were σ factor E isoform 1, triacylglycerol lipase SDP1, DNA-directed RNA polymerase III subunit 2, WRKY transcription factor WRKY24, and regulator of nonsense transcripts 1 homolog. A Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes analysis indicated that the significantly enriched circRNA-hosting genes involved in the plant-pathogen interaction pathway were Calmodulin-domain protein kinase 5 isoform 1, probable WRKY transcription factor 33, U-box domain-containing protein 35, probable inactive receptor-like protein kinase At3g56050, WRKY transcription factor WRKY24, mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase kinase YODA, SGT1, and protein DGS1. Real-time monitoring is essential for safeguarding infrastructure in extreme environments, particularly in remote areas with abundant wind resources where sustained strong winds are common. A triboelectric-piezoelectric-electromagnetic hybrid wind energy harvester based on a snap-through bistable mechanism (ST-HWEH) is proposed, which can be used as a sustainable power source and a self-powered wind speed sensor. The piezoelectric energy harvester (PEH), triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG), and electromagnetic energy harvester (EMH) are placed at the maximum strain location, maximum contact area, and maximum displacement position of the bistable buckled beam, respectively, fully utilizing its characteristics in the structural space. The bistable buckled beam undergoes convex and concave snap-through transformations under the magnetic excitation, working synergistically with the buckled boundary to simultaneously achieve the three electromechanical energy conversions, thereby enhancing the electrical output performance of the system. Moreover, both the starting wind speed and resistance torque of the system are effectively reduced through the arrangement of symmetrical excited magnets with antimagnetic poles on the buckled beam. A prototype is prepared and subsequently experimentally verified. The results show that the overall output power density in a composite power generation unit for the ST-HWEH is 83.97 W/m3 at a wind speed of 11 m/s, which is 6.88 times higher than that of the ST-HWEH that only contains TENG. The prototype can easily light up 1000 LED lights at a mild wind speed of 5 m/s and demonstrate self-powered environmental monitoring (taking temperature and wind speed as examples), providing a potential solution for self-powered environmental monitoring and status monitoring of the infrastructure. Changes in precipitation regimes have significant effects on soil carbon (C) cycles; however, these effects may vary in arid versus humid areas. Additionally, the corresponding details of soil C cycles in response to altered precipitation regimes have not been well documented. Here, a meta-analysis was performed using 845 pairwise observations (control vs. increased or decreased precipitation) from 214 published articles to quantify the responses of the input process of exogenous C, the contents of various forms of C in soil, and the soil-atmosphere C fluxes relative to increased or decreased precipitation. The results showed that the effects of altered precipitation regimes did not differ between rainfall and snowfall. Increased precipitation significantly enhanced the soil C inputs, pools and outputs by 18.17%, 18.50%, and 21.04%, respectively, while decreased precipitation led to a significant decline in these soil C parameters by 10.18%, 9.96%, and 17.98%, respectively. The effects of increased precipitation on soil C cycles were more significant in arid areas (where mean annual precipitation, MAP <500 mm), but the effects of decreased precipitation were more significant in humid areas (where MAP ≥500 mm), indicating that the original MAP partially determined the responses of the soil C cycles to altered precipitation regimes. This study implies that for the same of precipitation variation, soil C cycles respond at different magnitudes: not only should the direction (decrease vs. increase) be counted but also the region (arid vs. humid) should be considered. Tea leaf spot, caused by the fungal phytopathogen Didymella segeticola, is an important foliar disease that can cause huge losses in the production and quality of tea, and there are no effective management measures to control the disease. This study screened a natural antimicrobial chemical for its activity against D. segeticola and studied its mode of action. Antifungal activity of the Streptomyces-derived antimicrobial zhongshengmycin (ZSM) against D. segeticola strain GZSQ-4 was assayed in vitro via the mycelial growth rate method. Optical microscopy and scanning and transmission electron microscopy were used to observe the morphological effects on hyphae treated with ZSM, with these studies complemented by transcriptomic, proteomic, and bioinformatic studies to identify the differentially expressed genes or differentially expressed proteins in hyphae treated with ZSM. Correlation analysis of transcriptomic and proteomic data were used to reveal the mode of action. The results indicated that ZSM could inhibit the growth of hyphae in vitro with a half-maximal effective concentration of 5.9 lg/ml, inducing some morphological changes in organelles, septa, and extracellular polysaccharides, targeting ribosomes to disturb translation, affecting the biosynthesis of some hyphal proteins at the messenger RNA and protein levels, and revealing correlations between findings from transcriptomes and proteomes. Angiotensin II (Ang II)-mediated vascular smooth muscle cell dysfunction plays a critical role in cardiovascular diseases. However, the role of microRNAs (miRNAs) in this process is unclear. We used small RNA deep sequencing to profile Ang II-regulated miRNAs in rat vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) and evaluated their role in VSMC dysfunction. Sequencing results revealed several Ang II-responsive miRNAs, and bioinformatics analysis showed that their predicted targets can modulate biological processes relevant to cardiovascular diseases. Further studies with the most highly induced miR-132 and miR-212 cluster (miR-132/212) showed time- and dose-dependent upregulation of miR-132/212 by Ang II through the Ang II Type 1 receptor. We identified phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) as a novel target of miR-132 and demonstrated that miR-132 induces monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 at least in part via PTEN repression in rat VSMC. Moreover, miR-132 overexpression enhanced cyclic AMP-response element- binding protein (CREB) phosphorylation via RASA1 (p120 Ras GTPase-activating protein 1) down-regulation, whereas miR-132 inhibition attenuated Ang II-induced CREB activation. Furthermore, miR-132 up-regulation by Ang II required CREB activation, demonstrating a positive feedback loop. Notably, aortas from Ang II-infused mice displayed similar up-regulation of miR-132/212 and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1, supporting in vivo relevance. In addition, microarray analysis and reverse transcriptasequantitative PCR validation revealed additional novel miR- 132 targets among Ang II-down-regulated genes implicated in cell cycle, motility, and cardiovascular functions. Sixteen novel pyrazole acyl thiourea derivatives 6 were synthesized from monomethylhydrazine (phenylhydrazine) and ethyl acetoacetate. The key 5-chloro-3- methyl-1-substituted-1H-pyrazole-4-carbonyl chloride intermediates 4 were first generated in four steps through cyclization, formylation, oxidation and acylation. Thess were then reacted with ammonium thiocyanate in the presence of PEG-400 to afford 5-chloro-3- methyl-1-substituted-1H-pyrazole-4-carbonyl isothiocyanates 5. Subsequent reaction with fluorinated aromatic amines resulted in the formation of the title compounds. The synthesized compound were unequivocally characterized by IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and elemental analysis and some of the synthesized compounds displayed good antifungal activities against Gibberella zeae, Fusarium oxysporum, Cytospora mandshurica and anti-TMV activity in preliminary antifungal activity tests. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a promising therapeutic modality which uses a photosensitizer to capture visible light resulting in phototoxicity in the irradiated region. PDT has been used in a number of pathological indications, including tumor. A key desirable feature of the photosensitizer is the high phototoxicity on tumor cells but not on normal cells. In this study, we conjugate a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) to a photosensitizer, Zinc phthalocyanine (ZnPc), in order to enhance its specificity to breast cancer, which over-expresses GnRH receptor. ZnPc has unique advantages over other photosensitizers, but is difficult to derivatize and purify as a single isomer. We previously developed a straight-forward way to synthesize mono-substituted β -carboxy-phthalocyanine zinc (ZnPc-COOH). Photophysical and photochemical parameters of this ZnPc-GnRH conjugate including fluorescence quantum yield (Φf), fluorescence decay time (τs) and singlet oxygen quantum yield (ΦΔ)) were evaluated and found comparable with that of ZnPc, indicating that addition of a GnRH peptide does not significantly alter the generation of singlet oxygen from ZnPc. Cellular uptakes and phototoxicities of this conjugate were tested and found significantly enhanced on human breast cancer cell lines overexpressing GnRH receptors (MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 cells) compared to cells with low levels of GnRH receptors, such as human embryonic lung fibroblast (HELF) and human liver carcinoma (HepG2) cells. In addition, the cellular uptake of this conjugate toward MCF-7 cells were found clearly alleviated by a GnRH receptor blocker Cetrorelix, suggesting that the cellular uptake of this conjugate was GnRH receptor-mediated. Put together, these findings revealed that coupling ZnPc with GnRH analogue was an effective way to improve the selectivity of ZnPc towards tumors with over-expressed GnRH receptors. Spatial analysis, including viewshed analysis, is an important aspect of the Digital Earth system. Viewshed analysis is usually performed on a large scale, so efficiency is important in any Digital Earth application making these calculations. In this paper, a real-time algorithm for viewshed analysis in 3D scenes is presented by using the parallel computing capabilities of a graphics processing unit (GPU). In contrast to traditional algorithms based on line-of-sight, this algorithm runs completely within the programmable 3D visualization pipeline to render 3D terrains with viewshed analysis. The most important difference is its integration of the viewshed calculation with the rendering module. Invisible areas are rendered as shadows in the 3D scene. The algorithm process is paralleled by rasterizer units in the graphics card and by vertex and pixel shaders executed on the GPU. We have implemented this method in our 3D Digital Earth system with the DirectX 9.0c API and tested on some consumer-level PC platforms with interactive frame-rates and high image quality. Background: Recent genome-wide association (GWA) studies have identified a number of novel genetic determinants of blood lipid concentrations in Europeans. However, it is still unclear whether these loci identified in the Caucasian GWA studies also exert the same effect on lipid concentrations in the Chinese population. Methods and Results: We conducted a replication study assessing associations between SNPs at 15 loci and blood lipid and lipoprotein concentrations in two Chinese cohorts, comprising 2533 and 2105 individuals respectively. SNPs in APO(A1/C3/ A4/A5), TIMD4-HAVCR1, DOCK7, TRIB1, ABCA1, and TOMM40-APOE showed strong associations with at least one lipids trait, and rs174546 in FADS1/2/3 showed modest association with triglyceride in the Chinese population. Conclusions: We successfully replicated 7 loci associated plasma lipid concentrations in the Chinese population. Our study confirmed the implication of APO(A1/C3/A4/A5), TOMM40-APOE, ABCA1, DOCK7, TIMD4-HAVCR1, TRIB1 and FADS1/2 in plasma lipid and lipoprotein concentrations in Chinese population. Fluorescence catalytic beacons have emerged as a general platform for sensing applications. However, almost all such sensing systems need covalent modification of the DNAzymes with fluorophore-quencher pairs, which may require elaborate design of the synthetic routes and many heavy and complicated synthetic steps and result in increased cost and lower synthesis yield. Here we report the construction of fluorescent cascadic catalytic beacons. With separation of the molecular recognition module from the signal reporter, this new design both avoids DNAzyme modifications and improves sensitivity through an endonuclease-based cascadic enzymatic signal amplification. This allows detection of l-histidine with high sensitivity (LOD = 200 nM) and excellent specificity. Traditional online or in-process surface profile (quality) evaluation (prediction) needs to integrate cutting parameters and several in-process factors (vibration, machine dynamics, tool wear, etc.) for high accuracy. However, it might result in high measuring cost and complexity, and moreover, the surface profile (quality) evaluation result can only be obtained after machining process. In this paper, an approach for surface profile pre-evaluation (prediction) in turning process using cutting parameters and radial basis function (RBF) neural networks is presented. The aim was to only use three cutting parameters to predict surface profile before machining process for a fast pre-evaluation on surface quality under different cutting parameters. The input parameters of RBF networks are cutting speed, depth of cut, and feed rate. The output parameters are FFT vector of surface profile as prediction (pre-evaluation) result. The RBF networks are trained with adaptive optimal training parameters related to cutting parameters and predict surface profile using the corresponding optimal network topology for each new cutting condition. It was found that a very good performance of surface profile prediction, in terms of agreement with experimental data, can be achieved before machining process with high accuracy, low cost, and high speed. Side Population (SP) cells, a subset of Hoechst-low cells, are enriched with stem cells. Originally, SP cells were isolated from bone marrow but recently have been found in various solid tumors and cancer cell lines that are clonogenic in vitro and tumorigenic in vivo. In this study, SP cells from lymph node metastatic head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) cell lines were examined using flow cytometry and Hoechst 3342 efflux assay. We found that highly metastatic HNSCC cell lines M3a2 and M4e contained more SP cells compared to the low metastatic parental HNSCC cell line 686LN. SP cells in HNSCC were highly invasive in vitro and tumorigenic in vivo compared to non-SP cells. Furthermore, SP cells highly expressed ABCG2 and were chemoresistant to Bortezomib and etoposide. Importantly, we found that SP cells in HNSCC had abnormal activation of Wnt/b-catenin signaling as compared to non-SP cells. Together, these findings indicate that SP cells might be a major driving force of head and neck tumor formation and metastasis. The invasion of male-sterile (female) individuals into hermaphroditic populations, leading to gynodioecy, is common in flowering plants. Both theoretical and empirical studies have shown that as the frequency of females increases in a population, pollen limitation reduces seed production more in females than in hermaphrodites, leading to higher fitness for hermaphrodites and a consequent decrease in female frequency. Here we show that contrary to this expectation, females of the gynodioecious orchid Satyrium ciliatum are maintained only in populations that experience high pollen limitation caused by low pollinator service and high pollen herbivory. This species avoids the typical problem of pollen limitation for seed production and can therefore maintain high frequencies of females in pollen-limited populations because females produce more seeds than hermaphrodites via facultative parthenogenesis in the absence of pollinia. A series of MII−LnIIIazido-containing complexes: [LnNi2(IN)5(N3)2(H2O)3]·2H2O (Ln = NdIII(2), EuIII(3), SmIII(4), LaIII(5)) and [GdCu2(IN)5(N3)2(H2O)3]·2H2O (6) have been prepared hydrothermally by using isonicotinate (IN) and azide as bridging ligands with the strategy of synergistic coordination. Their structures have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses and their magnetic properties have been probed by changing the LnIIImetal ions and the 3d ions. All of them crystallize in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/n. The structural analyses revealed that alternating EE/EO azido−M chain and RCOO−/Ln chain are presented in these compounds due to coordination synergy. Few studies have evaluated the long-term relationship between diet quality and cardiometabolic risk factor clustering among children. The moderating effect of socio-economic status (SES) is of interest. To investigate the association between diet quality with cardiometabolic risk among Chinese children and to explore the moderating effect of SES. In this cohort study, 5 waves (1997-2009) of the China Health and Nutrition Survey were used. Diet quality was measured by a modified version of the Chinese Children Dietary Index (mCCDI) based on Dietary Guidelines for Chinese. Children between the ages of 7 and 17 (n = 2903) who completed at least 2 surveys were included. Those who missed measures or had hypertension or diabetes at baseline were excluded. The fasting blood samples were collected in 2009. Waist circumference (WC) and blood pressure (BP) were measured in each survey. A continuous cardiometabolic risk score (MetScore) was derived by a confirmatory factor analysis of 5 components: WC, BP, glucose, triglycerides, and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Considering the latency period of the effect of behaviors, the mCCDI was lagged by the period between surveys. Linear regression was used to analyze the association of mCCDI with MetScore and its components. Mixed effect linear regression and lagged mCCDI were used for WC and BP models. Higher mCCDI was independently associated with a lower MetScore at follow-up (β: −.11; 95% CI: −.18 to −.04). Higher lagged mCCDI over time was associated with a lower WC z score overall (β: −.05; 95% CI: −.08 to −.01) and among children in the low SES group (β: −.09; 95% CI: −.14 to −.04) but not those in the high SES group. When examining the 15 mCDDI components separately, scores for 5 components: more grains, vegetables, soybeans and its products; less sugar-sweetened beverages; and more diet variety were significantly associated with a lower MetScore. Background: Few reports of the utilization of an accurate, cost-effective means for measuring HPV oncogene transcripts have been published. Several papers have reported the use of relative quantitation or more expensive Taqman methods. Here, we report a method of absolute quantitative real-time PCR utilizing SYBR-green fluorescence for the measurement of HPV E7 expression in cervical cytobrush specimens. Results: The construction of a standard curve based on the serial dilution of an E7-containing plasmid was the key for being able to accurately compare measurements between cervical samples. The assay was highly reproducible with an overall coefficient of variation of 10.4%. Conclusion: The use of highly reproducible and accurate SYBR-based real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays instead of performing Taqman-type assays allows low-cost, high-throughput analysis of viral mRNA expression. α-Si3N4 whiskers with novel saw-toothed and riblike structures have been synthesized in a high yield by a carbothermal reduction and nitridation route. The products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and selected-area electron diffraction (SAED). The results show that the saw-toothed whiskers with one smooth surface and another toothlike surface have lengths about several tens of microns and widths in the range of 600−1200 nm. The riblike whiskers are composed of Si3N4 rod-arrays, which grow closely packed perpendicular to the central axial whiskers with uniform diameter and length. The growth mechanism of the products can be considered as a combination of VS mechanism and secondary epitaxial nucleation process. The photoluminescence (PL) spectrum of the whiskers shows a strong blue light emission peak at 406 nm and a weak peak at 485 nm, suggesting their potential applications in light and electron emission devices. Emerging evidence suggests that the nervous system is involved in tumor development in the periphery, however, the role of the central nervous system remains largely unknown. Here, by combining genetic, chemogenetic, pharmacological, and electrophysiological approaches, we show that hypothalamic oxytocin (Oxt)-producing neurons modulate colitis-associated cancer (CAC) progression in mice. Depletion or activation of Oxt neurons could augment or suppress CAC progression. Importantly, brain treatment with celastrol, a pentacyclic triterpenoid, excites Oxt neurons and inhibits CAC progression, and this anti-tumor effect was significantly attenuated in Oxt neuron-lesioned mice. Furthermore, brain treatment with celastrol suppresses sympathetic neuronal activity in the celiac-superior mesenteric ganglion (CG-SMG), and activation of β2 adrenergic receptor abolishes the anti-tumor effect of Oxt neuron activation or centrally administered celastrol. Taken together, these findings demonstrate that hypothalamic Oxt neurons regulate CAC progression by modulating the neuronal activity in the CG-SMG. Lasiodiplodia theobromae is a phytopathogenic fungus, which can cause many different diseases on different crops. The pathogen can cause leaf spot on tea plants (Camellia sinensis), which negatively affects the productivity and quality of tea leaves in tea plantations in Guizhou Province, China. Although the genome sequence of L. theobromae has been published, no data on the transcriptome or small RNA sequences of L. theobromae under in vitro conditions and the course of infection of tea leaf are available. Here, we report the high-quality transcriptome and small RNA sequences of L. theobromae in vitro conditions and the course of infection of tea leaf using the platform of Illumina HiSeq. The karyotype is highly important for diagnosis and prognosis in myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). The objective of the present study was to investigate the cytogenetic characteristics of patients with MDS in China. The karyotypes of 665 Chinese patients with MDS were analyzed, and it was identified that 298 cases (298/665, 44.8%) had abnormal karyotypes. Among the 298 patients with abnormal karyotypes, the 75 patients with trisomy 8 (+8) constituted the most common subset (75/298, 25.2%). The incidence of abnormal karyotypes was significantly higher in patients who were ≥51 years old compared with those <51 years old, (54.8 vs. 34.7%, respectively; P<0.05). Based on World Health Organization (WHO) classification-based Prognostic Scoring System (WPSS) criteria, the incidence of poor-prognosis karyotypes was significantly higher (17.4 vs. 5.4%; P<0.05) in the older patient group, and based on the Revised International Prognostic Scoring System (IPSS-R) criteria, the incidence of poor-/very poor-prognosis karyotypes was also significantly higher (17.4 vs. 6.6%; P<0.05) in patients ≥51 years old compared with younger ones. Based on the WHO classification of MDS subtypes, the incidence of abnormal karyotypes in patients with high percentages of bone marrow (BM) blasts [excess blasts (EB)-I + EB-II, ≥5% blasts] was significantly higher than that in patients with low percentages of BM blasts (those with single lineage dysplasia + multilineage dysplasia, <5% blasts) (62.5 vs. 36.0%; P<0.05). The incidence of poor-prognosis karyotypes based on WPSS criteria was significantly higher in patients with high percentages of BM blasts than those with low percentages (22.0 vs. 6.9%, respectively; P<0.05), and the incidence of poor-/very poor-prognosis karyotypes based on IPSS-R criteria was also significantly higher (23.0 vs. 7.4%, respectively; P<0.05). These results demonstrate that +8 is the most common abnormal karyotype in Chinese patients with MDS. Age and the percentage of BM blasts are associated with the incidence of both abnormal karyotypes and karyotypes with poor prognosis. The C2 domain containing protein extended synaptotagmin (E-Syt) plays important roles in both lipid homeostasis and the intracellular signaling; however, its role in physiology remains largely unknown. Here, we show that hypothalamic E-Syt3 plays a critical role in diet-induced obesity (DIO). E-Syt3 is characteristically expressed in the hypothalamic nuclei. Whole-body or proopiomelanocortin (POMC) neuron-specific ablation of E-Syt3 ameliorated DIO and related comorbidities, including glucose intolerance and dyslipidemia. Conversely, overexpression of E-Syt3 in the arcuate nucleus moderately promoted food intake and impaired energy expenditure, leading to increased weight gain. Mechanistically, E-Syt3 ablation led to increased processing of POMC to α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), increased activities of protein kinase C and activator protein-1, and enhanced expression of prohormone convertases. Five Curvularia strains isolated from diseased leaves of lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) in Guangxi Province, China, were examined. NCBI-Blast searches of ITS sequences suggested a high degree of similarity (99-100%) to Curvularia akaii, C. akaiiensis, C. bothriochloae, C. heteropogonis and C. sichuanensis. To accurately identify these strains, we further analysed their morphology and phylogenetic relationships based on combinations of ITS, GAPDH, and tef1 gene sequences. Morphological observations indicated that the key character differing from similar species was conidial size, whereas phylogenetic analyses indicated that the five strains represent one species that is also distinct from C. akaii, C. akaiiensis and C. bothriochloae by conidial size and conidiophore length. Thus, the strains examined are found to represent a new species described herein as Curvularia nanningensis. The pathogenicity test on the host and detached leaves confirmed the new species to be pathogenic on Cymbopogon citratus leaves. This paper deals with the fault observer and fault-tolerant controller design for singular Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy systems subject to actuator faults. First, a novel proportional-integral observer is constructed to estimate the system states and faults. Sufficient conditions for the existence of the proposed observer are given in linear matrix inequality (LMI) terms. Furthermore, based on the state and fault estimation (FE), a fault-tolerant controller (FTC) is designed to effectively accommodate the influence of fault upon state and ensure that the closed-loop system is stable. The general theory of relativity predicts that a star passing close to a supermassive black hole should exhibit a relativistic redshift. In this study, we used observations of the Galactic Center star S0-2 to test this prediction. We combined existing spectroscopic and astrometric measurements from 1995–2017, which cover S0-2’s 16-year orbit, with measurements from March to September 2018, which cover three events during S0-2’s closest approach to the black hole. We detected a combination of special relativistic and gravitational redshift, quantified using the redshift parameter r. However, towards the development of dual- or multi-responsive actuators, it still lacks universal and effective strategies for rational design and fabrication of such devices through the simplest way. In this paper, we report a complementary strategy to produce dual-responsive bilayer actuators by combining the moisture-active/alkane-inert graphene oxide (GO) layer with the alkane-active/moisture-inert polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) layer. The GO@PDMS bimorph actuator can switch its active and inert layers in response to moisture and alkane, respectively, realizing dual-responsive deformation under different actuations. Typical dual-responsive actuators, including a selective air valve and a grip and hook smart claw, are successfully fabricated, demonstrating the capability of effective gases and objects transmission. Leukoaraiosis is an important clinical feature of cerebral small vessel disease. To date, there is no reliable biomarker to reflect the degree of cerebral small vessel disease and white matter damage. This study aimed to explore the relationship between cystatin C levels and the degree of white matter damage in order to assess whether cystatin C could serve as a biomarker for white matter damage. We conducted a retrospective analysis of 408 non-critically ill hospitalized patients. The included patients underwent related biochemical and cerebral magnetic resonance imaging examinations. The magnetic resonance imaging results were assessed using the Fazekas scale in fluid attenuation inversion recovery imaging. We analyzed the association of each risk factor (sex, age, blood glucose, blood lipid, and cystatin C) with the degree of white matter damage using univariate logistic and multivariate cumulative odds logistic regression (stepwise). Serum cystatin C concentration was closely associated with the degree of white matter damage (odds ratio = 2.14), while age, sex, and hypertension were associated with selective damage of brain white matter. The combination of surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) technology with microfluidics makes it possible to diagnose genetic disease through label-free on-chip DNA detection. However, open problems including the integration of SERS substrate with microfluidic devices, controllable trapping and releasing of target molecules are still challenging. Here we demonstrate a facile laser scribing method to fabricate silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and graphene oxide (GO) based biochips as a reusable SERS sensor for DNA detection. Programmable laser scribing of the AgNPs@GO composite film enables direct patterning of sensitive SERS channels that consist of graphene supported AgNPs by exfoliating the composites into hierarchical porous structures. Integrating the SERS-active patterns with a microfluidic chip forms a biochip for allowing SERS detection of DNA. The noncovalent interactions between DNA and graphene mediated controllable trapping and releasing of DNA sequences, enabling efficient on-chip SERS detection and the regeneration of the biochip. The fungal pathogen Didymella segeticola (basionym Phoma segeticola) causes leaf spot on tea (Camellia sinensis), which leads to a loss in tea leaf production in Guizhou Province, China. D. segeticola isolate GZSQ-4 was sequenced using lllumina HiSeq and Pacific Biosciences (PacBio) RS technologies, and then assembled to approximately 33.4 Mbp with a scaffold N50 value of approximately 2.3 Mbp. In total, 10,893 genes were predicted using the Nonredundant, Gene Ontology, Clusters of Orthologous Groups, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes, and SWISS-PROT databases. The whole-genome sequence of D. segeticola will provide a resource for future research on host-pathogen interactions, determination of trait-specific genes, pathogen evolution, and plant-host adaptation mechanisms. Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) has attracted a great deal of attention to its unique properties in recent years. In this work, a scalable and green method was developed for the production of high-quality MoS2 nanosheets using shear-assisted supercritical CO2 exfoliation. Our experiments indicate that high temperature, pressure, and shearing speed are favorable to the exfoliation of MoS2. It is found that over 95% of the exfoliated MoS2 nanosheets are less than 10 layers, among which about 50% are 1–4 layers. Raman spectra and XRD patterns reveal that few-layer MoS2 nanosheets with high planar crystal structure are successfully prepared. Moreover, the produced MoS2 has a better stability in N-methyl-pyrrolidone (NMP) than the bulk MoS2. The bromodomain and extra-terminal (BET) family proteins, consisting of BRD2, BRD3, BRD4, and testis-specific BRDT members, are epigenetic "readers" and play a key role in the regulation of gene transcription. BET proteins are considered to be attractive therapeutic targets for cancer and other human diseases. Recently, heterobifunctional small-molecule BET degraders have been designed based upon the proteolysis targeting chimera (PROTAC) concept to induce BET protein degradation. Herein, we present our design, synthesis, and evaluation of a new class of PROTAC BET degraders. One of the most promising compounds, 23, effectively degrades BRD4 protein at concentrations as low as 30 pM in the RS4;11 leukemia cell line, achieves an IC50 value of 51 pM in inhibition of RS4;11 cell growth and induces rapid tumor regression in vivo against RS4;11 xenograft tumors. Male sterility is an essential trait in hybrid seed production for monoclinous crops, including rice and wheat. However, compared with the high percentage of hybrid rice planted in the world, little commercial hybrid wheat is planted globally as a result of the lack of a suitable system for male sterility. Therefore, understanding the molecular nature of male fertility in wheat is critical for commercially viable hybrid wheat. Here, we report the cloning and characterization of Male Sterility 1 (Ms1) in bread wheat by using a combination of advanced genomic approaches. MS1 is a newly evolved gene in the Poaceae that is specifically expressed in microsporocytes, and is essential for microgametogenesis. Orthologs of Ms1 are expressed in diploid and allotetraploid ancestral species. Orthologs of Ms1 are epigenetically silenced in the A and D subgenomes of allohexaploid wheat; only Ms1 from the B subgenome is expressed. The encoded protein, Ms1, is localized to plastid and mitochondrial membranes, where it exhibits phospholipidbinding activity. Controllable self-assembly of ordered and regularly patterned semiconductor nanoarchitectures is of great interest in achieving fantastic functionalities and properties of nanomaterials in nanodevices. Here we demonstrate a symmetric confined growth methodology for fabricating a geometrically patterned and well-oriented two-dimensional nanonet by a solution growth. A uniform orthogonal VO2 nanonet composed of single-crystalline nanowalls is self-assembled in a one-step process and exhibits single-crystal-like crystallographic characteristics. It is revealed that the 4-fold symmetric structure of (001) TiO2 determines the orthogonal geometrical pattern of the nanonet; in addition, the interfacial mismatch energy controls the horizontal growth direction and morphology of one-dimensional nanocrystals competing with the surface energy. The unique VO2 nanonet exhibits excellent thermochromic performances due to its self-generated porosity and sluggish phase transition. The initial optical modulation temperature is near room temperature. The solar modulating ability (ΔTsol) is up to 11.82% with the maximum visible light transmittance (Tvis-max) more than 70%. The proposed growth strategy could be adopted in more systems to perform self-assembly of regularly patterned nanoarchitectures with well interconnectivity and preferred orientation, which offers promising opportunities for exploiting potential nanodevices in various applications. Here, we report photodynamic oncotherapies mediated by gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) receptors. We synthesized conjugates 1 and 2 by coupling zinc phthalocyanine (ZnPc) to GnRH analogues. Compared to unmodified ZnPc, conjugates 1 and 2 exhibited higher and more specific phototoxicities to breast cancer cells. Furthermore, the two conjugates demonstrated excellent antitumor efficacies in a breast cancer-grafted animal model. Rational structure design of microwave absorption material (MAM) is of fundamental significance in terms of enhancing the electromagnetic microwave absorption performance and deeply understanding the specific correlation between the material structure and its electromagnetic microwave absorption (EMA) performance. Here, bowl-like carbon nanoparticles (BLCNs) as novel MAM have been successfully fabricated via calcination of bowl-like polydopamine. Interestingly, BLCNs have exhibited dramatically enhanced EMA performance with a minimum reflection loss of -45.3 dB and an effective bandwidth of below -10 dB in the wide range of 4.2 GHz, implying the unique critical role of the microstructure in adjusting the EMA performance. Our work not only paves an attractive way for the design of advanced and lightweight MAM, but also provides valuable insights into the relationships between the material structure and its EMA performance.
