Background: Knowledge of reference intervals for blood analytes, including serum protein fractions, is of great importance for the identification of infectious and inflammatory diseases and is often lacking in wild animal species., Material and Methods: Serum samples were obtained from European minks enrolled in the breeding program (n = 55). Agarose gel electrophoresis (AGE) and capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) were used to separate and identify protein fractions. Albumin, α1, α2, β, and γ-globulins fractions were identified in all mink sera by both electrophoresis methods. Reference intervals (90% CI) were determined following the 2008 guidelines of the Clinical Laboratory Standard Institute. The methods were compared using Passing-Bablok regression, Bland-Altman analysis, and Lin's concordance correlation., Results: A significant bias was found between methods for α1, α2, and γ-globulin. Lin's concordance correlation was considered unacceptable for α1, α2, and β-globulins. Differences for gender between methods were found for albumin and α2-globuins, which were higher for males than females. γ-globulins were higher for adults than young minks using both methods; however, α1 and α2-globulins were lower., Conclusion: Both methods are adequate for identifying serum protein disorders, but the AGE and CZE methods are not equivalent. Therefore, reference intervals for each technique are required.

Noise pollution is one of the hazardous factors in the environment. One of the major sources of noise pollution is urban transportation, mostly the subway system and transportation in business centers. In this study, the effects of noise pollution on blood serum proteins level of Wistar male rats were investigated. Rats were divided into 3 groups (1 control and 2 experimental, n=6). The control group was kept in standard conditions and the experimental groups were kept in Tehran Grand Bazaar and the vicinity of Sadeghiyeh metro-station (West Rose Street). After eight weeks, the blood serum proteins of each group were analyzed by electrophoresis assay. Then, the blood serum samples were investigated by Ultraviolet-Visible spectroscopy and chemometrics method (MCR-ALS). Down syndrome, or trisomy 21, has a higher mortality than the general population, mainly due to respiratory tract infections. The objective of this study was to describe immune compromise in a series of cases of patients with Down syndrome referred to the Pediatric Immunology Section due to recurrent infections or pathological laboratory findings between 6/1/2016 and 5/31/2022. Here we describe immune compromise in 24 patients. Twelve patients failed to develop a polysaccharide response and received antibiotic chemoprophylaxis, or gamma globulin replacement therapy. Three patients developed agammaglobulinemia with presence of B cells and gamma globulin replacement therapy was indicated. Background: Immunoglobulin replacement therapy is recommended in case of severe hypogammaglobulinemia after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo‐HSCT). However, the supposed increased risk of infection in case of hypogammaglobulinemia has not been confirmed in allo‐HSCT. In this study, we assessed the relationship between the gamma globulin level and the risk of infection during the 100 days following the allo‐HSCT. Methods: We gathered the weekly laboratory tests from day 7 to day 100 of 76 allograft patients, giving a total of 1 044 tests. 130 infections were documented clinically, by imaging, or microbiologically. Results: Average gamma globulin levels between D‐7 and D100 did not differ between patients with or without infection (642 ± 232 and 671 ± 246 mg/dL, respectively, P =.65). Gamma globulin level <400 mg/dl was not associated with the occurrence of infection between the test studied and the next one (aOR 1.33 [0.84‐2.15], P =.24). The gamma globulin level was not predictive of bacterial or fungal infections (AUC 0.54 [95%CI: 0.47‐0.61]) nor of viral reactivations (AUC 0.51 [95%CI: 0.43‐0.60]). Conclusions: This confirmed that the humoral deficiency is a minor part of the immune deficiency in the 100 days post‐transplant. Background: the torpid progress of chronic eye disorders, with conventional treatments, impels the alternative use of immunomodulators.Objective: to describe the use of immunomodulators in patients with chronic eye disorders that do not improve with conventional treatments, attended to at the department of immunoallergy of the Clinic of Medical Specialties of Granma, from 2017 through 2020.Methods: a descriptive study was carried out at the aforementioned clinic and during the period herein declared. Out of a universe of 101 patients, older than 18 years, 96 were chosen by intentional sampling who consented to be treated with immunomodulators, from January 2017 through December 2018, with follow-ups of at least two-year duration. The effectiveness of immunomodulators on keratitis and uveitis was studied. The following drugs were used: Hebertrans, human gamma globulins at 10 % and the combination of this with levamisole or Hebertrans.Results: treatments were effective in 89,58 % of overall cases, reaching 92,86 % in posterior uveitis. Ten patients could not be controlled, half of them with herpetic keratitis. 61,46 % were treated with Hebertrans, which was effective in 89,83 %. 87,46 % of the patients with herpetic keratitis were controlled with Hebertrans and 90,91 % of the patients suffering from uveitis with human gamma globulins.Conclusions: the use of immunomodulators in patients with chronic eye disorders was described. Hebertrans, single gamma globulin or its combinations were effective.
