Abstract

Spatial-temporal coordination problem (STCP) plays a critical role in urban search and rescue (USAR) operations. Artificial Intelligence has tried to tackle this problem by taking advantage of multi-agent systems, GIS, and intelligent algorithms to enhance the task allocation by establishing collaboration between human agents and intelligent assistant agents. This paper presents a model based on cellular learning automata (CLA) to improve the teamwork interaction between human-agent teams in performing the distributed tasks. In this model, the main objective is to add the learning ability to the assistant agents in a way that they can guide human-agent toward the optimal decision(s). The effectiveness of the proposed model is evaluated on different scenarios of an earthquake simulation. Results indicate that the proposed model can significantly improve the rescue time and the maximum distance traveled by the rescue teams.

Abstract

There has been an increasingly awareness over the environmental impact of human activities, along with the exponential industrial growth, over the last decades. One of the negative important issues is the air pollution and its impact over the human health in recent years. Therefore, there have been initiated several laws and projects in order to monitor, analyze and forecast the evolution of the most important air pollutants. In this paper, it have been designed a multi agent system based model to simulate the distributed air quality monitoring process which can be used in the air pollution decision process. Each local monitoring station can be modelled as an intelligent agent and therefore the entire air quality network can be geographically distributed as a multi agent system. Summary: This book focuses on the recent development of forecasting and risk management techniques for electricity markets. In addition, we discuss research on new trading platforms and environments using blockchain-based peer-to-peer (P2P) markets and computer agents. The book consists of two parts. Abstract

The objective of this paper is to monitor and control a micro-grid model developed in MATLABSimulink through Multi Agent System (MAS) for autonomous and distributed energy management. Since MATLAB/Simulink is not compatible with parallel operations of MAS, MAS operating in Java Agent Development Environment (JADE) is linked with MATLAB/Simulink through Multi Agent Control using Simulink with Jade extension (MACSimJX). This allows the micro-grid system designed with Simulink to be controlled by MAS for realizing the advantages of MAS in distributed and decentralized microgrid systems. JADE agents receive environmental information through Simulink and they coordinate to take best possible action, which is reflected in MATLAB/Simulink simulations. After validation and performance evaluation through dynamic simulations, the operations of the agents at various scenarios are practically verified by using the Arduino microcontroller. Abstract

Energy management system (EMS) is one of the pillars of next generation of power system called Smart Grid. More distributed generation (DG) produced from renewable energy (RE) will be injected into the distribution power system. EMS has the responsibility to manage this RE generation and conventional one to keep the power balance between generation and consumption. Different architectures of EMS could be found in literature: the centralized, decentralized and distributed. As the centralized architecture is becoming outdated, the decentralized one is the most promising step before implementing a fully distributed system. In this context, development of multiagent systems (MAS) and their tested proprieties increase researchers' interest in applying them in Microgrid (MG) context. This paper implements a decentralized multiagent EMS (DMA-EMS) that manages a MG cluster with fault tolerance feature. Within a single MG, a dedicated multiagent EMS that performs power dispatch with the objective of minimizing power exchange with the grid is implemented. Within the MG cluster, another dedicated EMS is implemented to share power between different MGs. Moreover, the DMA-EMS can manage active power support for the distribution feeder when needed. The implemented management system has proven its reliability and the effectiveness of the proposed management scheme in normal operation as well as in fault conditions through the multiagent JADE platform and Simulink model. Microgrids contain various power systems with different power capacities and generation fluctuations. An overall power management strategy is necessary to manage power flows among all interconnected elements. This paper presents a multi –agent system solution to energy management in a microgrid based on distributed hybrid renewable energy generation and distributed consumption (vital loads and non-sensitive loads). The real model of each element connected is needed, enabling microgrid modeling and control. A new architecture using multi –agent system solution is proposed, allowing making all the calculations required in Matlab Simulink and the intelligent strategy of energy management is executed by agents designed by Jade. While the communication middleware between Jade and Simulink is carried out by MacsimJX. Abstract

The ambient intelligence consists of the integration of computer science technologies in the objects of the environment around us in order to create a smart one. Each object in the environment performs a different service as part of achieving a task. The adaptive Service composition is a context-aware system used in the situation where the user’s needs cannot be satisfied by a single service but by the combination of several ones. One of the main and principal characteristics of ambient environments is the adaptability to the context. The multi-agent systems with their characteristics of autonomy, proactivity, mobility and sociability are one of the most promising techniques of service composition and they became a major and significant paradigm for developping ambient systems. In this paper, we present a model of adaptive service composition in ambient environment based on multi-agent system named Multi Agent System for Adaptive Service Composition (MAS-ASC). To each object of the environment is associated an agent. The set of the agents coordinate their competences taking into account the context in order to perform an activity. MAS-ASC is based on the Contract Net Protocol in which the agents exchange their proposals in the form of call for proposal.
