Control of ticks and tick-borne pathogens is a priority for human and animal health. Livestock-holders extensively rely on acaricide applications for tick control. Different groups of acaricides including cypermethrin and amitraz have been consistently used in Pakistan. There has been a gap in understanding the susceptibility or resistance of Rhipicephalus microplus, the most prevalent tick in Pakistan, to acaricides. The present study aimed to molecularly characterize cypermethrin and amitraz targeted genes such as voltage-gated sodium channel (VGSC) and octopamine tyramine (OCT/Tyr) of R. microplus ticks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Pakistan to monitor the acaricides resistance. Tick specimens were collected from cattle and buffaloes in northern (Chitral, Shangla, Swat, Dir, and Buner), central (Peshawar, Mardan, Charsadda, Swabi, and Nowshera), and southern districts (Kohat, Karak, Lakki Marwat, Tank, and Dera Ismail Khan) of KP, Pakistan. Different concentrations of commercially available cypermethrin (10%) and amitraz (12.5%) were prepared for in vitro larval immersion tests (LIT). In LIT, the average mortality rate of immersed larvae was recorded that was increased gradually with an increase in the concentration of specific acaricide. The larvae’s highest mortality rates (94.5% and 79.5%) were observed at 100-ppm of cypermethrin and amitraz, respectively. A subset of 82 R. microplus ticks was subjected to extract genomic DNA, followed by PCR to amplify partial fragments of VGSC (domain-II) and OCT/Tyr genes. The BLAST results of the consensus sequence of VGSC gene (domain-II) showed 100% identity with the acaricides susceptible tick sequence from the United States (reference sequence). Obtained identical sequences of OCT/Tyr genes showed maximum identity (94-100%) with the identical sequences reported from Australia (reference sequence), India, Brazil, Philippines, USA, South Africa, and China. Thirteen single nucleotide polymorphisms (10 synonymous and three non-synonymous) were observed at various positions of partial OCT/Tyr gene fragments. The SNP at position A-22-C (T-8-P) in OCT/Tyr gene has been linked to amitraz resistance in R. microplus ticks. Molecular analysis and LIT bioassay’s findings indicate the availability of resistant R. microplus ticks in the KP region. To our understanding, this is the first preliminary study to monitor cypermethrin and amitraz resistance via molecular profiling of cypermethrin and amitraz targeted genes (VGSC and OCT/Tyr) in combination with in vitro bioassays (LIT) in R. microplus ticks from Pakistan.

Cu-Al-Ni shape memory alloy specimens has been fabricated using powder metallurgy technique with tube furnace and vacuum sintering environment , three range of Nb powder weight percentage (0.3,0.6,0.9)% has been added. Micro hardness and sliding wear resist has been tested followed by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscope (EDX) for micro structure observation. The experimental test for the samples has showed that the increase of Nb powder weight percentage in the master alloy has a significant effect on increasing the hardness and decreasing the wear resist therefore it will enhance the mechanical properties for this alloy.

Introduction: Drug delivery systems are the topmost priority to increase drug safety and efficacy. In this study, hybrid porous silicates SBA-15 and its derivatives SBA@N and SBA@3N were synthesized and loaded with an anticancer drug, 5-fluorouracil. The drug release was studied in a simulated physiological environment.Method: These materials were characterized for their textural and physio-chemical properties by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), small-angle X-ray diffraction (SAX), and nitrogen adsorption/desorption techniques. The surface electrostatics of the materials was measured by zeta potential.Results: The drug loading efficiency of the prepared hybrid materials was about 10%. In vitro drug release profiles were obtained in simulated fluids. Slow drug release kinetics was observed for SBA@3N, which released 7.5% of the entrapped drug in simulated intestinal fluid (SIF, pH 7.2) and 33% in simulated body fluid (SBF, pH 7.2) for 72 h. The material SBA@N presented an initial burst release of 13% in simulated intestinal fluid and 32.6% in simulated gastric fluid (SGF, pH 1.2), while about 70% of the drug was released within the next 72 h. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations have also supported the slow drug release from the SBA@3N material. The release mechanism of the drug from the prepared carriers was studied by first-order, second-order, Korsmeyer–Peppas, Hixson–Crowell, and Higuchi kinetic models. The drug release from these carriers follows Fickian diffusion and zero-order kinetics in SGF and SBF, whereas first-order, non-Fickian diffusion, and case-II transport were observed in SIF.Discussion: Based on these findings, the proposed synthesized hybrid materials may be suggested as a potential drug delivery system for anti-cancer drugs such as 5-fluorouracil.

يعد الاحتياطي الاجنبي المرتكز الأساس لتحقيق الاستقرار والنمو الاقتصادي المرغوب فيه، لذا يحظى التنبؤ بالاحتياطي الأجنبي باهتمام السلطات النقدية وواضعي السياسة النقدية في العراق، وذلك من خلال توفير بيئة ملائمة للسياسات الاقتصادية بصورة عامة والسياسة النقدية بصورة خاصة من أجل أداء مهامها بدقة وفعالية، إذ يهدف البحث إلى التنبؤ بالحجم المستقبلي للاحتياطي الأجنبي في البنك المركزي العراقي لغاية عام (2025)، من خلال المفاضلة بين نماذج السلاسل الزمنية التقليدية (السلوك العشوائي، الاتجاه العام، الاتجاه التربيعي، وانموذج براون للتمهيد الاسي، وأنموذج هولت للتمهيد الاسي)، ونماذج ARIMA)) ومن خلال استخدام معايير الدقة التنبؤية فضلا عن تحليل واقع واتجاهات الاحتياطي الأجنبي في البنك المركزي العراقي للمدة (2004-2021)، وأظهرت النتائج أن أفضل أنموذج يمكن استخدامه للتنبؤ بالاحتياطي الاجنبي في العراق، هو أنموذج (ARIMA(1,1,0الذي أظهر أدنى القيم لاختبار معايير القدرة التنبؤية (HQC, AIC, SBIC) المستخدمة للمقارنة مع نماذج التنبؤ الأخرى أن القيم المتنبأ بها للاحتياطي الأجنبي في العراق ارتفعت من (92527) مليار دينار في عام (2021) الى (126712) مليار دينار في نهاية عام (2025)، وإن هذا الارتفاع في الاحتياطي الاجنبي يرفع المركز المالي للاقتصاد العراقي بالتالي تحقيق استقرار نقدي الذي يدعم الاستقرار المالي في الاقتصاد العراقي.

Sun drying in the open air is quite popular worldwide. However, the use of solar dryers to preserve various perishable agricultural products is a relatively new area of study, and the long-term effects of this method are not yet fully understood. The slow drying process in direct sunlight can contaminate the dried materials by soil and insects. To overcome these challenges, we devised a sun drying system that included a heating part, a drying area, a portable stand, fans, and a 50-W photovoltaic panel. An alternate energy source was used to power the drying process during cloudy days and at night. Fresh Freestone peach, Golden apple, and Anaheim chilies weighing 10 kg each with the initial moisture content of 89%, 87%, and 75% on a wet basis (w.b), respectively, were used in the experiments. The final moisture content of the samples was reduced by an average of 16%, 15%, and 11% for Freestone peaches, Golden apples, and Anaheim chilies, respectively. The quality analysis was carried out to determine sample composition, total bacteria, and color of dried products. The results indicated that the dried products met the recommended quality standards for food products in terms of composition, total bacteria, and color. This research supports the use of a hybrid mixed-mode solar dryer for drying a wide range of perishable agricultural products.

Abstract Background Soft ticks (Ixodida: Argasidae) are medically important ectoparasites that mainly feed on birds and mammals, which play a key role in their geographic distribution and dispersion. Despite their importance, studies on soft ticks are scarce for many regions and countries of the world, including Pakistan. Methods In this study, 2330 soft ticks—179 larvae (7.7%), 850 nymphs (36.4%), 711 males (30.5%) and 590 females (25.3%)—were collected from animal shelters in 18 locations within five districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. A subset of the collected ticks was processed for DNA extraction and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for the amplification of tick 12S ribosomal DNA (rDNA), 16S rDNA and cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (cox1), and rickettsial 16S rDNA gene fragments. The obtained sequences were used for the construction of a phylogenetic tree. Results All the specimens were morphologically identified as Ornithodoros, and were morphologically similar to Ornithodoros tholozani. The genus was confirmed by sequencing partial 12S rDNA, 16S rDNA and cox1 gene fragments. Additionally, a Rickettsia sp. was detected in some of the collected ticks by PCR targeting 16S rDNA. The morphological relatedness of the tick specimens with O. tholozani was confirmed by phylogenetic analysis, in which the Ornithodoros sp. clustered with Ornithodoros tholozani and Ornithodoros verrucosus, both of which belong to the subgenus Pavlovskyella and have been previously reported from Israel, Ukraine and Iran. The phylogenetic tree also indicated that the Ornithodoros sp. from Pakistan corresponds to an undetermined species. Furthermore, the associated Rickettsia sp. grouped with the limoniae group of Rickettsia species previously reported from Argas japonicus ticks from China. Conclusions This is the first molecular study of an Ornithodoros species from Pakistan. Further studies are essential to confirm its identity and possible pathogenicity with regard to its associated microorganisms in the studied region. Graphical abstract

BACKGROUND: Professional driving requires long hours of work, uncomfortable seats, negotiating rough terrain and highways, and possibly minor repairs and other auxiliary transportation duties. Heavy vehicle drivers driving vehicles such as trucks, bulldozers, etc. due to such working structures are more prone to various musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) and pain, which is of great concern. OBJECTIVES: In the present study, it is planned to investigate possible ergonomic risk factors such as age, weight, driving exposure, seat suspension systems, lifting heavy weights causing MSDs in drivers of various heavy vehicles. The results of the study are expected to help drivers reduce the risk of MSDs. METHODS: For the present study, the Nordic questionnaire on musculoskeletal disorders was modified and standardized and was administered to the 48 heavy vehicle drivers randomly selected to collect the data. RESULTS: The analysis divulged that over the past 12 months, lower back pain (LBP) emerged as the most dominant pain experienced by 56% of drivers, followed by knee pain (KP) (43%) and neck pain (NP) (39%) respectively. The prevalence of shoulder pain (SP) was observed to be much lower than in previous literature. The logistic regression model further revealed that increasing age, poor suspension system and poor body posture were significantly associated with lower back pain. Additionally, a poor suspension system and lifting heavy weights had significant effect on the drivers' knee pain. CONCLUSION: The results demonstrated the evident necessity for ergonomic consideration in vehicle designing and ergonomic training for heavy vehicle drivers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Amenorrhea is defined as the cessation of menstruation; it is a significant clinical sign of reproductive dysfunction that affects 1.5-3% of women of childbearing age and is a leading cause of female infertility. The increasing incidence is attributed to better healthcare access and awareness. The Unani system of medicine offers a distinctive perspective on reproductive ailments, yet its terminology and concepts often diverge from modern medical understandings. Research Problem and Aim: This study aims to bridge the gap between classical Unani literature and contemporary medicine by exploring the etiopathogenesis (asbāb wa mahiyatul marazi) of Iβtibḥs al-Tamth (amenorrhea) and comparing it with conventional medical definition, types, causes and its pathogenesis, thereby enhancing understanding of it from both perspectives. Methodology: A systematic review was conducted in 2023, that includes: The primary and main sources of collection of material were from classical published books, manuscripts and their translations. The second type of sources of collection of material were from different types of available published and unpublished literature related to study topic i.e. journals, proceedings, thesis, reports, souvenir, dissertations etc. The third type of sources were from authentic digital material i.e. trusted online websites i.e. PubMed, internet archive etc. Results/Findings: The research revealed a structured understanding of Iḥtibās al-Tamth in Unani literature, highlighting its nuanced classification and etiological factors in comparison to conventional medicine. The findings underscore the potential for integrating Unani insights into contemporary gynaecological practices. Implications: This exploration contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of Iḥtibās al- Tamth (amenorrhea), suggesting that Unani medicine's holistic approach may offer alternative treatment avenues that could mitigate the side effects associated with conventional hormonal therapies. 215. First Molecular-Based Confirmation of Dermacentor marginatus and Associated Rickettsia raoultii and Anaplasma marginale in the Hindu Kush Mountain Range

Ticks of the genus Dermacentor Koch, 1844 (Acari: Ixodidae) are poorly known systematically due to their habitation in harsh topographic environments and high mountains. Dermacentor ticks are diversely distributed in the Palearctic, Nearctic, and Oriental regions. There is no available information on the occurrence of Dermacentor marginatus in Pakistan; thus, the current investigation aimed the first morphological and molecular confirmation of this species and associated Anaplasma marginale and Rickettsia raoultii. Ticks were collected from goats (Capra hircus) and morphologically identified. Genomic DNA was extracted from 18/26 (69.23%) tick specimens, including 11 males and 7 females (1 unfed and 6 fed females). Extracted DNA was subjected to PCR for the amplification of genetic markers like 16S rDNA and cox1 for ticks, 16S rDNA for Anaplasma spp., and gltA and ompB for Rickettsia spp. A total of 26 D. marginatus ticks composed of 19 males (73.07%) and 7 females (26.9%) [1 (3.84%) unfed and 6 (23.07%) fed females] were collected from goats. According to amplicons via BLAST analysis, the 16S rDNA sequence showed 97.28–98.85% identity and the cox1 sequence showed 95.82–98.03% identity with D. marginatus. Additionally, the 16S rDNA sequence for Anaplasma sp. was detected in D. marginatus that showed 100% identity with Anaplasma marginale. Rickettsial gltA and ompB sequences for Rickettsia sp. showed 100% identity with Rickettsia raoultii. In phylogenetic analysis, ticks’ 16S rDNA and cox1 sequences clustered with the same species. In phylogenetic analysis, A. marginale based on 16 rDNA clustered with A. marginale, while gltA and ompB sequences clustered with R. raoultii. This is the first study on the genetic characterization of D. marginatus and associated A. marginale and R. raoultii in Pakistan. The northern areas of Pakistan, which need to be explored in terms of ticks and associated pathogens due to their zoonotic threats, have been neglected due to the inaccessible climatic conditions.

216. Molecular Survey of Rickettsia raoultii in Ticks Infesting Livestock from Pakistan with Notes on Pathogen Distribution in Palearctic and Oriental Regions

Ticks are hematophagous ectoparasites that transmit different pathogens such as Rickettsia spp. to domestic and wild animals as well as humans. Genetic characterizations of Rickettsia spp. from different regions of Pakistan are mostly based on one or two genetic markers and are confined to small sampling areas and limited host ranges. Therefore, this study aimed to molecularly screen and genetically characterize Rickettsia spp. in various tick species infesting camels, sheep, and goats. All the collected tick specimens were morphologically identified, and randomly selected tick species (148) were screened molecularly for the detection of Rickettsia spp. by amplifying three rickettsial DNA fragments, namely, the citrate-synthase gene (gltA), outer-membrane protein A (ompA), and outer-membrane protein B (ompB). After examining 261 hosts, 161 (61.7%) hosts were found infested by 564 ticks, including 287 (50.9%) nymphs, 171 (30.3%) females, and 106 (18.8%) males in five districts (Kohat, Dera Ismail Khan, Lower Dir, Bajaur, and Mansehra). The highest occurrence was noted for Hyalomma dromedarii (number = 72, 12.8%), followed by Haemaphysalis sulcata (n = 70, 12.4%), Rhipicephalus turanicus (n = 64, 11.3%), Rhipicephalus microplus (n = 55, 9.7%), Haemaphysalis cornupunctata (n = 49, 8.7%), Hyalomma turanicum (n = 48, 8.5%), Hyalomma isaaci (n = 45, 8.0%), Haemaphysalis montgomeryi (n = 44, 7.8%), Hyalomma anatolicum (n = 42, 7.5%), Haemaphysalis bispinosa (n = 38, 6.7%), and Rhipicephalus haemaphysaloides (n = 37, 6.6%). A subset of 148 ticks were tested, in which eight (5.4%) ticks, including four Hy. turanicum, two Ha. cornupunctata, one Ha. montgomeryi, and one Ha. bispinosa, were found positive for Rickettsia sp. The gltA, ompA, and ompB sequences revealed 100% identity and were phylogenetically clustered with Rickettsia raoultii reported in China, Russia, USA, Turkey, Denmark, Austria, Italy, and France. Additionally, various reports on R. raoultii from Palearctic and Oriental regions were summarized in this study. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report regarding genetic characterization and phylogenetic analysis of R. raoultii from Pakistan. Further studies to investigate the association between Rickettsia spp. and ticks should be encouraged to apprise effective management of zoonotic consequences.

Ticks are hematophagous ectoparasites that transmit pathogens to animals and humans. Updated knowledge regarding the global epidemiology of tick-borne Rickettsia hoogstraalii is dispersed, and its molecular detection and genetic characterization are missing in Pakistan. The current study objectives were to molecularly detect and genetically characterize Rickettsia species, especially R. hoogstraalii, in hard ticks infesting livestock in Pakistan, and to provide updated knowledge regarding their global epidemiology. Ticks were collected from livestock, including goats, sheep, and cattle, in six districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Pakistan. Overall, 183 hosts were examined, of which 134 (73.2%), including goats (number = 39/54, 72.2%), sheep (23/40, 57.5%), and cattle (71/89, 80%) were infested by 823 ticks. The most prevalent tick species was Rhipicephalus microplus (number = 283, 34.3%), followed by Hyalomma anatolicum (223, 27.0%), Rhipicephalus turanicus (122, 14.8%), Haemaphysalis sulcata (104, 12.6%), Haemaphysalis montgomeryi (66, 8.0%), and Haemaphysalis bispinosa (25, 3.03%). A subset of 210 ticks was selected and screened for Rickettsia spp. using PCR-based amplification and subsequent sequencing of rickettsial gltA and ompB fragments. The overall occurrence rate of R. hoogstraalii was 4.3% (number = 9/210). The DNA of Rickettsia was detected in Hy. anatolicum (3/35, 8.5%) and Ha. sulcata (6/49, 12.2%). However, no rickettsial DNA was detected in Rh. microplus (35), Rh. turanicus (35), Ha. montgomeryi (42), and Ha. bispinosa (14). The gltA and ompB fragments showed 99–100% identity with R. hoogstraalii and clustered phylogenetically with the corresponding species from Pakistan, Italy, Georgia, and China. R. hoogstraalii was genetically characterized for the first time in Pakistan and Hy. anatolicum globally. Further studies should be encouraged to determine the role of ticks in the maintenance and transmission of R. hoogstraalii in different hosts.

Argasid ticks have the vectorial potential for transmitting disease-causing pathogens to avian hosts, resulting in economic losses that may not be fully estimated. Borrelia species are the responsible agents of borreliosis in poultry, animals and humans. Our previous studies have reported a high prevalence of Argas persicus infesting domestic fowls in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Pakistan. However, molecular screening and genetic characterization of Borrelia spp. in A. persicus have been neglected in Pakistan. In this study, we focused on the molecular epidemiology and genetic characterization of Borrelia spp. associated with A. persicus ticks infesting domestic fowls and ducks, and Carios vespertilionis infesting bats in selected districts of KP. Overall, 1818 ticks, including females (415; 23%), males (345; 19%), nymphs (475; 26%) and larvae (583; 32%), were collected from 27 locations in nine districts (Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Charsadda, Chitral, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Bajaur and Hangu) from domestic fowls, ducks and their shelters, and bats. A subset of 197 ticks was selected for DNA extraction and PCR to amplify fragments of the cytochrome c oxidase (cox) gene for ticks and flagellin B (flaB) for the detection and genetic characterization of associated Borrelia spp. Among these, only Borrelia anserina DNA was detected in 40 ticks (27.2%) of different life stages, where highest prevalence was found in female ticks (18; 45%), followed by nymphs (12; 30%), larvae (7; 17.5%) and males (3; 7.5%). Tick infestation in shelters (1081; 77%) was higher than on hosts (323; 23%). The resultant cox amplicons of A. persicus showed 100% identity with the same species reported from Pakistan, China, Iran, Kenya, Kazakhstan, Algeria and Egypt and C. vespertilionis show 100% identity with the species reported from Pakistan, China, Japan, Kenya, Vietnam, Spain, Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Hungry, and clustered with the aforementioned species in the phylogenetic tree. The obtained Borrelia sequences showed 100% identity with B. anserina and revealed a close resemblance to the relapsing fever group and clustered in a monophyletic clade with B. anserina from India, Iran and Brazil in a phylogenetic tree. These results establish the first molecular characterization of B. anserina in A. persicus infesting domestic fowls and ducks in the region, as well as their shelters. To effectively control zoonotic consequences, country-wide surveillance research should be encouraged to screen soft ticks infesting various birds for associated pathogens.

Ixodes ticks transmit Theileria and Anaplasma species to a wide range of animals. The spreading of ticks and tick-borne pathogens has been attributed to transhumant herds, and research on these uninvestigated issues has been neglected in many countries, including Pakistan. Recently, we used internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and 16S ribosomal DNA partial sequences to genetically characterize Ixodes kashmiricus ticks and their associated Rickettsia spp. However, the data on its cox1 sequence and associated Theileria spp. and Anaplasma spp. are missing. This study aimed to genetically characterize I. kashmiricus based on the cox1 sequence and their associated Theileria spp. and Anaplasma spp. The I. kashmiricus ticks were collected from small ruminants: sheep (Ovis aries) and goats (Capra hircus) of transhumant herds in district Shangla, Dir Upper and Chitral, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Pakistan. Out of 129 examined hosts, 94 (72.87%) (56 sheep and 38 goats) were infested by 352 ticks, including adult females (175; 49.7%) followed by nymphs (115; 32.7%) and males (62; 17.6%). For molecular analyses, 121 ticks were subjected to DNA isolation and PCR for the amplification of the cox1 sequence for I. kashmiricus, 18S rDNA for Theileria spp. and 16S rDNA sequences for Anaplasma spp. The obtained cox1 sequence showed 89.29%, 88.78%, and 88.71% identity with Ixodes scapularis, Ixodes gibbosus, and Ixodes apronophorus, respectively. Phylogenetically, the present cox1 sequence clustered with the Ixodes ricinus complex. Additionally, the 18S rDNA sequence showed 98.11% maximum identity with Theileria cf. sinensis and 97.99% identity with Theileria sinensis. Phylogenetically, Theileria spp. clustered with the T. cf. sinensis and T. sinensis. In the case of Anaplasma spp., the 16S rDNA sequence showed 100% identity with Anaplasma capra and phylogenetically clustered with the A. capra. PCR-based DNA detection targeting the amplification of groEL and flaB sequences of Coxiella spp. and Borrelia spp., respectively, was unsuccessful. This is the first phylogenetic report based on cox1 and new locality records of I. kashmiricus, and the associated T. sinensis-like and A. capra. Significant tick surveillance studies are needed in order to determine the epidemiology of Ixodes ticks and their associated pathogens.

Studies evaluating candidate tick-derived proteins as anti-tick vaccines in natural hosts have been limited due to high costs. To overcome this problem, animal models are used in immunization tests. The aim of this article was to review the use of rabbits as an experimental model for the evaluation of tick-derived proteins as vaccines. A total of 57 tick proteins were tested for their immunogenic potential using rabbits as models for vaccination. The most commonly used rabbit breeds were New Zealand (73.8%), Japanese white (19%), Californians (4.8%) and Flemish lop-eared (2.4%) rabbits. Anti-tick vaccines efficacy resulted in up to 99.9%. Haemaphysalis longicornis (17.9%) and Ornithodoros moubata (12.8%) were the most common tick models in vaccination trials. Experiments with rabbits have revealed that some proteins (CoAQP, OeAQP, OeAQP1, Bm86, GST-Hl, 64TRP, serpins and voraxin) can induce immune responses against various tick species. In addition, in some cases it was possible to determine that the vaccine efficacy in rabbits was similar to that of experiments performed on natural hosts (e.g., Bm86, IrFER2, RmFER2, serpins and serine protease inhibitor). In conclusion, results showed that prior to performing anti-tick vaccination trials using natural hosts, rabbits can be used as suitable experimental models for these studies.

Distributed generators (DGs) are increasingly employed in radial distribution systems owing to their ability to reduce electrical energy losses, better voltage levels, and increased dependability of the power supply. This research paper deals with the utilization of a Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm by handling its random constraints to determine the most appropriate size and location of photovoltaic-based DG (PVDG) to keep the asymmetries of the phases minimal in the grid. It is thus expected that this algorithm will provide an efficient and consistent solution to improve the overall performance of the power system. The placement and sizing of the DG are done in a way that minimizes power losses, enhances the voltage profile, i.e., bringing symmetry in the voltage profile of the system, and provides maximum cost savings. The model has been tested on an IEEE 33-bus radial distribution system using MATLAB software, in both conditions, i.e., with and without PVDG. The simulation results were successful, indicating the viability of the proposed model. The proposed PSO-based PVDG model further reduced active power losses as compared to the models based on the teaching–learning artificial bee colony algorithm (TLABC), pathfinder algorithm (PFA), and ant lion optimization algorithm (ALOA). With the proposed model, active power losses have reduced to 17.50%, 17.48%, and 8.82% compared to the losses found in the case of TLABC, PFA, and ALOA, respectively. Similarly, the proposed solution lessens the reactive power losses compared to the losses found through existing TLABC, PFA, and ALOA techniques by an extent of 23.06%, 23%, and 23.08%, respectively. Moreover, this work shows cost saving of 15.21% and 6.70% more than TLABC and ALOA, respectively. Additionally, it improves the voltage profile by 3.48% of the power distribution system.

The number of smartphone users and mobile devices has increased significantly. The Mobile Cloud Applications based on cloud computing have also been increased. The mobile apps can be used in Augmented Reality, E-Transportation, 2D/3-D Games, E-Healthcare, and Education. The modern cloud-based frameworks provide such services on Virtual Machines. The existing frameworks worked well, but these suffered the problems such as overhead, resource utilization, lengthy boot-time, and cost of running Mobile Applications. This study addresses these problems by proposing a Dynamic Decision-Based Task Scheduling Technique for Microservice-based Mobile Cloud Computing Applications (MSCMCC). The MSCMCC runs delay-sensitive applications and mobility with less cost than existing approaches. The study focused on Task Scheduling problems on heterogeneous Mobile Cloud servers. We further propose Task Scheduling and Microservices based Computational Offloading (TSMCO) framework to solve the Task Scheduling in steps, such as Resource Matching, Task Sequencing, and Task Scheduling. Furthermore, the experimental results elaborate that the proposed MSCMCC and TSMCO enhance the Mobile Server Utilization. The proposed system effectively minimizes the cost of healthcare applications by 25%, augmented reality by 23%, E-Transport tasks by 21%, and 3-D games tasks by 19%, the average boot-time of microservices applications by 17%, resource utilization by 36%, and tasks arrival time by 16%.

Recently power crises are increasing day by day in Pakistan due to shortage of energy resources. The financial position of Pakistan is too weak and not in position to install new power projects for the production of electrical power to meet the demand as per requirement. So every consumer is trying to install the power producing devices to meet the demand inorder to run their institutional laboratories, offices, commercial plants and industrial machines. The generator is also one of the power producer device to meet the consumers demand to supply the electrical power to the load in absence of failure of power supply from utility company. A single large unit is very expensive to run the small loads and consume large amount of fuel, so parallel connection of two small generators is very beneficial to meet the demand as per requirement, result in cost saving, and less fuel consumption. QUEST Campus Larkana has installed two 50KVA generators in parallel to supply the required power to the load in absence of power supply to run their offices, workshops and laboratories, this minimize the cost, and increase the reliability of the system. The MATLAB simulation model is developed to analyze the performance of single unit generator and parallel connected generators.

233. Prevalence of different tick species on livestock and associated equines and canine from different agro-ecological zones of Pakistan

Ticks are ectoparasites that act as vectors for transmission of various pathogens to wild and domesticated animals and pose a serious threat to human health. Because of the hot and humid conditions in different agro-ecological zones of Pakistan, ticks are abundant and parasitize a variety of animals. The aim of this study was to identify different tick species and distribution on different hosts especially livestock, such as sheep, goat, cattle, buffalo, and camel, and livestock associated canines and equines, such as horse, donkey, and dog, across different agro-ecological zones of Pakistan. The ticks samples were collected and morphologically identified at genus and species level using morphological keys under stereomicroscope. A total of 2,846 animals were examined for the tick infestation, and 408 animals were tick-infested. Eleven tick species belonging to 4 genera were identified: Hyalomma anatolicum, Hyalomma scupense, Hyalomma dromedarii, Hyalomma isaaci, Rhipicephalus microplus, Rhipicephalus haemaphysaloides, Rhipicephalus turanicus, Haemaphysalis cornupunctata, Haemaphysalis montgomeryi, Haemaphysalis bispinosa, and Ixodes kashmiricus. The overall tick prevalence was 14.3%; host-wise infestation rate was 12.2% in sheep; 12.6%, goat; 11.7%, buffalo; 11.7%, cattle; 19.6%, camel; 27.4%, donkey; 23.5%, horse; and 24.3%, dog. Tick infestation of different animals differed on the basis of the zones. Camels showed the highest tick infestation rate in zones 1 and 2 (21.4 and 26.7%, respectively), whereas donkeys showed the highest infestation rate in zones 3, 4, 6, and 7 (25, 39.3, 3.3, and 21.4%, respectively). The infestation rates of Hyalomma and Rhipicephalus were the highest in zone 2 (71.4 and 52.9%, respectively). The infestation rate of Hyalomma was the highest (47.4%) in sheep; Haemaphysalis (46.9%), goat; Rhipicephalus (69.7%), buffalo; Rhipicephalus (62.3%), cattle; Hyalomma (70%), camel; Ixodes (60.9%), donkey; Ixodes (75%), horse; and Rhipicephalus (61.1%), dog. This study showed the diversity and infestation rate of different ticks with respect to their hosts and agro-ecological zones of Pakistan. High tick burdens and infestation rates are responsible for the spread of different tick-borne infections, resulting in loss of animal productivity and posing a threat to animal and human health. Understanding different tick species and their distribution across different zones will be helpful for developing efficient control strategies against different tick born infections.

After introducing the advantage of nanofluids for optimizing heat transfer, many research articles have been written considering the different types of domains. In our article, we will observe the turbulent transport of a hybrid mixture through the three-dimensional L-shaped channel to analyze the characteristic of heat generation via forced convection. The hybrid nanofluid is composed of aluminum oxide copper (Cu) and aluminum oxide (Al2O3), which will be present in the base fluid by the volume fraction of 5%, 15%, 25%, and 35% in the base fluid (water). To analyze the forced convection, the Reynolds number (Re) will be kept at 10,000 to 40,000. The simulation will be developed using the three-dimensional κ−ε turbulence model and energy equations via COMSOL Multiphysics 5.6. The numerical outcomes will be verified using the literature's correlations for the average Nusselt number. It was found that the average Nusselt number at the mid of the channel is increased by increasing the volume fractions of both aluminum oxide and copper, but the rate of increase because of copper is greater than the rate of increase because of aluminum oxide. The study also suggests that to get more benefit from the transport of a hybrid mixture, keep the Reynolds number high. The temperature along the channel length is the function of mean thermal diffusivity, which is directly proportional to the volume fractions of the hybrid mixture.

Homeschooling is a form of experiential learning which is fast picking momentum worldwide as an alternative educational choice driven by motivations unique to each family. No matter what the motivation, the end is to make learning more meaningful and value laden. Subject to much controversy by critics, especially in the realm of socialization, identity formation and academic performance, it is thought of as a bold and deviant ideology by mainstream society. Guided with a phenomenological approach, through in-depth interviews which were analyzed qualitatively, this exploratory study explores the benefits of homeschooling as experienced by six families from Karachi who decided to pull out their children from elite private schools to homeschool them due to dissatisfaction with the given schools. Findings revealed that the most conspicuous benefits derived from homeschooling were strengthened familial bonds, better socialization, improved academic learning, better social and moral instruction, and increased opportunities for self-discovery apart from other aggregate benefits.

The incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) associated with extrahepatic primary malignancy (EHPM) is extremely rare, especially for those that involve primary renal cell carcinoma (PRC). Here we present a case of a 66-year-old male who was diagnosed with HCC complicated with lymph node metastasis at posterior pancreas head and PRC. Biopsy results of the liver and the lymph node confirmed the diagnosis of HCC. The disease progressions of both HCC and PRC are controlled effectively following the initiation of comprehensive therapy including pembrolizumab, lenvatinib, radiotherapy, and transcatheter arterial chemo-embolization (TACE). Ultimately, the patient had successfully access to surgery and complete response (CR) of all the tumors were achieved after surgery.

The protection system has a vital role in subsystems of the power network including the generation, transmission and distribution system. This system combines several types of protection relays including directional over current relay, differential relay, distance relay, earth faults relay, inverse definite minimum time (IDMT) relay for the protection of line, generators bus bars, transformers, line to ground faults and feeder lines of the power system. In this research paper, the overall performance of the protection system is improved by reducing the overall operational time of directional over current relays (DOCRs) through the optimal coordination between the primary and backup over current protective relays while keeping the time multiplier setting (TMS), pickup tap setting (PTS) and coordination time of interval (CTI) within the allowable limits. A new optimization strategy, namely the FPSOGSA, is developed by integrating the concept of fractional calculus inside the mathematical model of canonical particle swarm optimization and combining with traditional gravitational search algorithm to enhance the optimizer characteristics and tested on coordination problem of DOCRs in standard power systems including the IEEE 3, 8 and 15 bus networks. The results, yielded by proposed algorithm and their comparison with other well-known recently established counterparts, reveal that the synergy of FC, PSO and GSA enhance the performance of the optimizer by combining the individual strengths of these tools and finding the best global solution. The consistency, stability and reliability of FPSOGSA is endorsed by comprehensive statistical analysis based on the empirical cumulative distribution function, histograms, boxplot illustrations, quantile–quantile plots, minimum fitness evolution in each independent simulation.

Abstract Magnetotactic bacteria are microscale complex natural systems that synthesize magnetic nanoparticles through biologically controlled mineralization. Nanoparticles produced by this process are biocompatible due to the presence of surrounding membranes. The mechanism controlling synthesis is cost-effective and is executed by complex genomes (operons). The results are monodispersed magnetic nanoparticles displaying advantages over polydispersed ones synthesized by physical and chemical methods. In this work, we isolated Pseudomonas aeruginosa from clinical samples and demonstrated its ability to biosynthesize magnetic nanoparticles. P. aeruginosa was thrived in a carbon-minimal medium supplemented with iron at low pH. The cells aligned parallel to a magnetic field, confirming their magnetic properties. The magnetic nanoparticles were extracted, purified, and characterized using electron microscopy, magnetometry, dynamic light scattering, and X-ray diffraction. This work represents the first isolation of a magnetotactic bacterium from clinical samples. The aerobic nature of these bacteria allows them to be easily cultured under laboratory conditions, unlike their well-known microaerophilic counterparts. The biosynthesized magnetic nanoparticles can be used in many applications, including magnetic resonance imaging, diagnostics, and therapeutics (i.e., magnetic hyperthermia).

BackgroundHuman alveolar echinococcosis (AE) is a neglected zoonotic disease. Prevalence of AE in humans is reported in Pakistan as a result of poor economic and sanitary conditions, close proximity to wildlife and limited knowledge of AE. Studies on the prevalence and transmission of AE have been limited, especially for rural Pakistan. The study objectives were to identify knowledge, attitudes and practices relating to AE, to determine awareness of the disease, and to identify knowledge about possible risk factors of infections involving the landscape epidemiological attributes of rural villages in Hunza, one of the districts of Gilgit-Baltistan, a region of Pakistan that borders China.MethodsA community-based cross-sectional study was conducted among the general population of Hunza to establish the level of awareness, knowledge, attitudes, practices, landscape epidemiology, and disease management and control relating to AE in rural areas of Hunza. Data were collected by questionnaire.ResultsA total of 387 questionnaires was received. Statistical analysis showed that the population's knowledge about the disease was poor. The attitudes and practices of the participants indicated that their risk of infection was low. Knowledge of landscape epidemiology of the disease was poor but knowledge about AE disease management was good. The attitudes of residents toward disease treatment and control strategies were positive, although the overall knowledge of participants about prevention of infection was poor.ConclusionKnowledge of AE is poor among the residents of Hunza, Pakistan. Our study demands continued and strengthened awareness of the changes to lifestyle and practices associated with AE, not only in the study locality but throughout other areas of Pakistan.
