Introdução: Os anticoagulantes orais (ACOs) demonstraram reduzir o risco de acidente vascular cerebral isquémico em doentes com fibrilhação auricular (FA). Contudo, a proporção de doentes que não está anticoagulada e tem indicação para estar é ainda elevada. O nosso objectivo é avaliar a proporção de doentes com FA que estão sob anticoagulação e avaliar a qualidade da prescrição de ACOs. Material e Métodos: Foi realizado um estudo observacional retrospectivo no Serviço de Medicina de um hospital do Alentejo (01-04/2019). Foram incluídos doentes com ≥18 anos, com história prévia de FA não-valvular e com CHA₂DS₂-VASc ≥ 2 (homens) ou ≥ 3 (mulheres). Extraiu-se o número de doentes que estava sob ACO e o número de doentes correctamente anticoagulado. Realizou-se análise estatística uni e bi-variada (IBM SPSS v.27.0). Resultados: Foram incluídos 203 doentes: 51,7% (n = 105) eram mulheres e a idade média foi 80,2 ± 9,4 anos. Cerca de 40% (n = 82) dos doentes não estavam sob ACO. Cinquenta e sete porcento (n = 20) dos doentes que tinham história prévia de eventos cerebrovasculares não estavam sob ACOs. Um quarto da amostra (n = 31) estava incorrectamente anticoagulada. Os doentes sob ACOs tendiam a ser mais novos e estar medicados um maior número de fármacos (p = 0,001 e p = 0,027, respectivamente). Conclusão: Os resultados sugerem que uma elevada proporção de doentes elegíveis para ACOs não estava medicada. Dos doentes medicados, um quarto estava incorrectamente anticoagulado. De forma a melhorar o padrão de prescrição, poder-se-ia considerar a optimização da formação contínua aos profissionais de saúde e o desenvolvimento de novos indicadores relativos à performance do sistema de saúde., Medicina Interna, Vol. 28 N.º 4 (2021): Outubro / Dezembro

Existem poucos estudos sobre o desempenho destes protocolos a nível intra-hospitalar e, por isso, pretende-se caracterizar os principais diagnósticos dos doentes incluídos na VVC e avaliar a proporção de casos de EAM. Material e Métodos: Foi realizado um estudo observacional retrospetivo no serviço de urgência de um hospital do Alentejo (06/2017-05/2018). Foram incluídos doentes com ≥ 18 anos e que apresentassem sintomas sugestivos de EAM. Os principais diagnósticos foram retirados dos processos clínicos e calculou-se a proporção de casos admitidos com EAM. Realizou- se análise estatística uni e bi-variada (IBM SPSS v.27.0). Resultados: Foram incluídos 338 doentes: 56,5% (n = 191) eram homens e a idade média foi 63,9 ± 15,1 {19;96} anos. A maioria dos diagnósticos estabelecidos classificaram- -se como enquadrados no sistema circulatório (61,2%, n = 207). A proporção do EAM foi de 27,2% (n = 92/338). Foram observados significativamente mais fatores de risco cardiovascular nos doentes com EAM, comparativamente aos doentes sem EAM (2,83 ± 1,54 vs 2,06 ± 1,49 fatores de risco/doente, respetivamente; p < 0,001) e em doentes com EAM sem elevação do segmento ST e EAM com elevação do segmento ST (3,25±1,36 vs 1,81 ± 1,50 fatores de risco/doente, respetivamente; p < 0,001). Os doentes com diagnóstico de EAM registaram um tempo de dor significativamente inferior aos doentes sem EAM (6,24 ± 9,08 vs 10,53 ± 18,23 horas de dor, respetivamente; p = 0,032). Conclusão: A maioria dos diagnósticos nos doentes da VVC foi do sistema circulatório e cerca de um quarto apresentaram EAM., Medicina Interna, Vol. 28 N.º 3 (2021): Julho / Setembro

Introduction: As an effort to reduce mortality associated with acute myocardial infraction (AMI), a fast-track approach named Via Verde Coronária (VVC) was implemented nationwi-de in 2007. Data on how this approach is performing in different hospitals is still scarce. Our aims were to characterize the main diagnoses of patients included in VVC and to evaluate the proportion of cases diagnosed with AMI. Material and Methods: A retrospective observational study was undertaken in the emergency department of a hospital from Alentejo (06/2017-05/2018). Patients were included if they were aged 18 or older and presented AMI-related symptoms. The main diagnosis was retrieved from medical records and the proportion of AMI was calculated. Data analysis was performed using uni and bivariate statistics (IBM SPSS v.27.0). Results: A total of 338 patients were included, where 56.5% (n = 191) were male with a mean age of 63.9 ± 15.1 {19;96} years old. The majority of diagnoses were from the circulatory system (61.2%, n = 207). AMI was present in 27.2% (n = 92/338) of the sample. There were differences when comparing the number of risk factors between patients with AMI and non-AMI (2.83 ± 1.54 vs 2.06 ± 1.49 risk factors/patient, respectively; p < 0.001) and in patients with NSTEMI and STEMI (3.25 ± 1.36 vs 1.81 ± 1.50 risk factors/patient, respectively; p < 0.001). There was a statistically significant difference when analyzing the duration of pain between patients with AMI and non-AMI (6.24 ± 9.08 vs 10.53 ± 18.23 hours of pain, respectively; p = 0.032). Conclusion: Data suggest that the majority of diagnosis in VVC was related to the circulatory system, and a quarter of them were AMI.

No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2021-04-01 Eucalyptus seedlings are sensitive to the interference imposed by weed community, especially during the initial growth period, which is the first year after crop establishment. Thus, this study aimed at evaluating the effect of increasing densities of Commelina benghalensis L. on the initial growth of Eucalyptus grandis Hill (ex Maiden) plants at two seasons of the year. For this, two experiments were carried out using 70 L boxes in an open and semi-controlled area: one in winter (during 90 days) and another in summer (during 120 days). Both experiments were randomized block designs with four replicates each. The treatments consisted of increasing densities of tropical spiderwort, namely: 0 (control), 4, 8, 16, 20, 28, 36, 40, 60 and 80 plants m(-2). Fifteen days after planting the tropical spiderwort seedlings, one seedling of eucalyptus was planted in the center of each box. The height, diameter, leaf area and total dry mass of eucalyptus were evaluated at the end of the experimental periods. Densities from 4 plants m(-2) negatively interfered with eucalyptus growth, reducing by 38.4% the leaf area and 35% the dry mass in winter. While in summer, we found reductions of 52.9% in the leaf area and 64.7% in the dry mass. We concluded that the density from 4 plants m(-2) interferes with the growth of eucalyptus and that the weed shows a more aggressive competitive behavior in the summer causing greater interference in the eucalyptus. This paper addresses the development of an integrated system to support maritime situation awareness based on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), empha-sizing the role of the automatic detection subsystem. One of the main topics of research in the SEAGULL project was the automatic detection of sea vessels from sensors onboard the UAV, to help human operators in the generation of situational awareness of maritime events such as (a) detection and geo-referencing of oil spills or hazardous and noxious substances, (b) tracking systems (e.g., vessels, ship-wrecks, lifeboats, debris), (c) recognizing behavioral patterns (e.g., vessels rendez-vous, high-speed vessels, atypical patterns of navigation), and (d) monitoring environmental parameters and indicators. We describe a system composed of optical sensors, an embedded computer, communication systems, and a vessel detection algorithm that can run in real time in the embedded UAV hardware and provide to human operators vessel detections with low latency, high precision rates (about 99%), and suitable recalls (>50%), which is comparable to other more computationally intensive state-of-the-art approaches. Field test results, including the detection of lifesavers and multiple vessels in red-green-and-blue (RGB) and thermal images, are presented and discussed. publishersversion published
