Background: The effect of listening to audiobooks, podcasts, and other audio files while walking on gait performance has not been well studied. Although the number of audio users is growing annually. Evidence suggests that a posture-first strategy contributes to gait stability in healthy individuals during dual-task conditions, but this effect may be diminished when the cognitive task is consciously prioritized. Objectives: To study the effect of listening to an audiobook while walking, as a daily life-like dual-task, on spatiotemporal gait parameters. Methods: Forty young healthy (24.05 ± 3.66) subjects participated in the study. Spatiotemporal gait parameters were measured for 5 min on a treadmill once without (single-task) and once while listening to an audiobook through over-ear headphones (dual-task). Measured parameters included spatiotemporal parameters, gait phases, maximum pressure, and dual-task cost. Data were statistically analyzed using SPSS software. Results: There were no significant differences in any of the studied parameters between the single- and dual-task conditions, even though the subjective cognitive load of listening to audiobooks while walking was high. However, participants with different habits had significant differences in gait phases and maximum pressure. Rare listeners had a shorter stance phase, a longer swing phase, and a higher maximum pressure on the dominant heel. They also had significant differences in dual-task costs. Conclusion: No differences in the spatiotemporal gait parameters for walking with and without listening to audiobooks, as a daily life-like dual-task, were observed. However, the difference between participants who listened rarely and participants who listened often may confirm the "posture first" strategy in young healthy people. Charitable organizations have embraced virtual reality (VR); however, scientific evidence supporting its effectiveness for social good often uses poor experimental methodology and finds inconsistent results. We conducted a rigorous randomized control trial testing whether 360° video virtual reality increases empathy and charitable donations. Participants (N = 155) were randomly assigned to one of four conditions: (a) Classic : 360° footage of child refugees, (b) Boost : the same, but with perspective-taking instructions, (c) Audiobook : a control condition with the same information about child refugees but in text format, or (d) Waiting Room : another control condition with a 360° view of a waiting room. Although the Classic and Boost conditions increased emotional empathy compared to controls, they did not improve cognitive empathy more than the audiobook. Moreover, any empathic gains were mostly extinguished after 10 days. Critically, the Classic and Boost conditions did not influence charitable donations to a relevant charity (UNICEF). Therefore, charitable organizations may wish to tentatively reconsider their investment in 360° videos as, although they appear to make people feel empathic in the moment, these feelings do not appear to translate into tangible action. This article examines the history and impact of audiobooks on education, specifically focusing on their role in supporting children's cognitive development and reading skills. The study provides a comprehensive overview of the origins of audiobooks and their evolution from early recordings to modern digital formats. It also reviews existing research on the benefits and drawbacks of audiobooks in education, highlighting their potential to aid children with reading difficulties and promote engagement with literature. The main study was preceded by an analysis of research on the actual effectiveness of audiobooks in education. The article reports on a survey of  elementary education teachers in Poland, examining their attitudes and usage of audiobooks in their work with students. The findings indicate that while a majority of teachers believe in the cognitive benefits of audiobooks, there are differing opinions regarding their impact on independent reading skills. The analysis also reveals associations between demographic variables such as age, seniority, and gender, and teachers' attitudes towards audiobook usage. The article concludes by emphasizing the need for further research to explore the potential of audiobooks in education. Overall, this study contributes to the understanding of the role of audiobooks in educating children and offers insights into teachers' perspectives on their use in the classroom. One of the important and prominent features of the Jahangiri Dictionary (published around the year 1017 AH in India) is bringing examples of poetry from poets of different centuries to explain the meaning of words. Of course, a large number of these poetic witnesses were distorted and many words have entered the dictionaries due to their misreading. But at the same time, a number of these poetic pieces of evidence have been recorded in this book with accurate and correct reports, according to the old manuscripts that the owner of Jahangiri and the writers of the sources had before him. By using them, a large number of verses can be found. He corrected the Divans of Suzani, Sanai, Athir Akshikti, Molavi, etc. By using some verses of Shams' generalities which are given in the Jahangiri Dictionary as a poetic witness under different words and also by referring to other verses of Molavi in Masnavi and Shams' Generalities, an attempt has been made to reflect on some verses of Molavi's ghazals in this dictionary. In this study, using Jahangiri's Dictionary, seven verses from Shams' Generalities have been examined. The difference between the words " چند "and " جند", " بخسدد "and " پخسدد", " زریند "and " چوبدند "are among the cases that have been discussed in this research. In addition, based on the last paragraph, a new possibility has been raised regarding the reason for the attribution of "چوبدنه = red headscarf" to "Bahram VI". [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Based on the research "The text-to-speech resource beyond assistance", it is suggested that reading through voice synthesis applications entails a double relationship with the text: hearing and visual. This article proposes the term audiotextual reading, which is a textual format different from the traditional audiobook and it must be integrated into the category of tertiary orality. Finally, some research findings based on the perceptions of the audiences are considered. The term audioreaders is also suggested in this article. Digital books are now part of the educational landscape, and school librarians are likely the adults in a school who have had the most experience with them. The COVID-19 pandemic removed many of the barriers that prevented widespread adoption of digital books, from 1:1 devices to technical support, but school librarians remain ambivalent about the role that digital books can play in their collections. This study sought to examine school librarians' perceptions of digital books and determine whether these have changed since a similar study was conducted in 2019. Results indicate that the roles digital books fill in school library collections remain marginal, with most schools reporting book budget allocations of 20 percent or less for digital books. Personally, school librarians enjoy digital books, and they recognize the advantages and limitations that digital books possess and the effect they have on their student readers. School librarians in New Hampshire continue to struggle with promoting digital books and defining the purposes they play in their library collections. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

I approach a set of processes that involve transformations, transpositions, and intermediations between different expressive forms of Amazonian Indigenous Peoples associated with the use of ayahuasca. I focus on groups of the Pano linguistic stock, particularly the Huni Kuin (Kaxinawa) and the example of the MAHKU (Movimento dos Artistas Huni Kuin), a new artistic collective created by some of these Indigenous People. I point to the complex meanings of the various expressive forms of these peoples, from traditional (oral narratives, graphics, visionary images linked to shamanic practices) to more recently adopted (figurative drawing and graphic recording in book format). I emphasize the importance of ayahuasca for the elaboration of these different expressive forms. By highlighting the meanings that imply the use of ayahuasca in certain Indigenous contexts, I also intend to contribute to the expansion of understanding of and broader debate about psychedelic experiences. This study aims to reveal information about the city of Barla and its foundations based on the cadastral record books of 1478, 1501, 1523, 1530 and 1568. The city of Barla was not divided into neighborhoods from 1478 to 1568 and was recorded in the books as "nefs". It is known that it was first divided into 9 Muslim and one Greek neighborhood in 1568. The borough of Barla stood out more for its urban life than for its rurality. Therefore, the majority of the population lived in the city. It is known that in 1478 there were 783 inhabitants in the city, 471 Muslims and 312 Christians. The city revenue was 18109 akce. In 1501, there were 1787 people in the city. Of these, 467 were non-Muslims. In 1501, the city revenue was 24082 akce, together with those allocated to the foundation. In the book dated 1523 and its completion, 1530, there were about 1510 people in the city, of which about 340 were Greeks. Together with those allocated to foundations in 1523-1530, the city revenue was 20988 akce. In 1568, 3115 people lived in Barla, of which 245 were non-Muslims. In 1568, with the foundations allocated, the city revenue increased to 28000 akce. The city's income increased continuously from 1478 to 1568. As it is understood from the taxes taken from the city, Barla was a city that was at the forefront with its industrial and commercial activities such as market, tavern, soap house, mill, fishing, as well as agricultural production. In order to access information about the foundations in and around Barla, the foundation books of the city were utilized. In the books of 1501, 1530 and 1570–71, the foundations of this place were described in detail. There were 4 foundations in 1501, 6 in 1530 and 20 in 1570-71. It is determined that the foundations here consisted of mosques, masjids, zawiyas, schools, faucets, and personal foundations. The revenues of the foundations here, the taxes taken per person consist of items such as farm, yard, sanctuary, bath, âsiyâb (mill), ground and cash. It was determined that some foundations remained from Hamidoğulları and were also used by the Ottomans. Again, it was seen that a foundation as a nesh was given to the grooming during the reign of Fatih Sultan Mehmed and then converted into a foundation again during the reign of Bayezid II. In short, we tried to reveal the social, economic and cultural situation of this borough based on the cadastral record books and foundations in the article. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Benefits for L2 reading through offering learners extensive reading with listening have been found in empirical studies, but those findings may be under-utilized in academic English preparation settings, due to prioritized test practice in response to high-stakes testing for university matriculation. Self-paced extensive reading with listening outside class might present an option, however, outside reading with adjustable listening support remains little-investigated for transferable benefits to academic English preparation. This gap is a concern for learners navigating present-day learning environments, characterized by turbulence and the need for self-reliance. This preliminary study was designed, therefore, to investigate for possible effects of self-paced reading with adjustable audiobooks online, outside the classrooms of an academic English preparation program. Questionnaires and reflections suggested progress towards greater ease and competence with near-academic reading. Standardized testing (TOEFL ITP) scores showed a slight gain in 6-8 weeks, with averages compared to a control, and without statistical significance. A Journey Round My Skull (Utazás a koponyám körül) is the most popular novel of the Hungarian writer Frigyes Karinthy. It is an autobiographical account of an illness - diagnosed as brain tumor - that he developed at the age of forty-nine. The book records his observations, thoughts and emotions, from the moment the first symptoms of the disease make themselves felt, through the long process of diagnosis to the ultimate surgery, conducted in Stockholm, which saved his life. Published in 1936, A Journey Round My Skull won both popular and critical acclaim. Also the international medical community found it a convincing piece of medical testimony. It was adapted for the stage and for the screen (in 1970). It was also translated into a number of languages, including English (1939) and Polish (2008). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
