The objective of this research work is to study the in vitro degradation behavior of as-fabricated and annealed Poly Lactic Acid (PLA) composites reinforced with varying volume fractions of carbon fiber (CF).The composites are prepared by fused filament fabrication technique (FFF). Specimens are immersed in simulated body fluid (SBF) for 8 weeks to study the degradation behavior of the composites by examining the change in weight, change in pH and degradation in mechanical properties. The obtained results show that the addition of carbon fiber reinforcement reduces the tensile strength, flexural strength, impact strength and compressive strength of the composites. Further, CF addition enhances the tensile modulus of the composite. The mechanical properties of annealed composites are enhanced when compared to as-fabricated composites. Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) is employed to study the thermal characteristics of the composites and % crystallinity of the composites. CF addition reduces the crystallinity of the composites. Fractographs of the tensile fractured specimens are studied using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The addition of the carbon fiber reinforcement is found to accelerate the degradation behavior of the composites. There is significant change in weight and pH as well as degradation in mechanical properties of PLA-CF composites immersed in SBF than pure PLA composites. Glucose-sensitive membrane has potential application in self-regulating insulin release. Phenylboronic acid (PBA) is a well-known glucose reporter. Unfortunately, most PBA-based glucose-sensitive materials are expansion-type, which are not suitable as chemical valves in membrane pores for self-regulating insulin release. According to a new glucose-sensitive mechanism, we synthesized PBA-based contraction-type glucose-sensitive liner polymer and microgels. Herein, a glucose-sensitive membrane was prepared by grafting PBA-based contraction-type glucose-sensitive linear polymer on the membrane surface. Through adjusting the chain length and chain density, the glucose-sensitivity of the membrane was optimized. The membrane can reversibly regulate insulin release at physiologically relevant glucose concentrations in simulates body fluids and fetal bovine serum. The study of ontogenetic aspects of water and electrolyte metabolism performed in the Institute of Physiology (Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences) led to the research on the increased susceptibility of immature rats to salt-dependent forms of hypertension since 1966. Hemodynamic studies in developing rats paved the way to the evaluation of hemodynamic mechanisms during the development of genetic hypertension in SHR. A particular attention was focused on altered renal function and kidney damage in both salt and genetic hypertension with a special respect to renin-angiotensin system. Renal damage associated with hypertension progression was in the center of interest of several research groups in Prague. The alterations in ion transport, cell calcium handling and membrane structure as well as their relationship to abnormal lipid metabolism were studied in a close cooperation with laboratories in Munich, Glasgow, Montreal and Paris. The role of NO and oxidative stress in various forms of hypertension was a subject of a joint research with our Slovak colleagues focused mainly on NO-deficient hypertension elicited by chronic L-NAME administration. Finally, we adopted a method enabling us to evaluate the balance of vasoconstrictor and vasodilator mechanisms in BP maintenance. Using this method we demonstrated sympathetic hyperactivity and relative NO deficiency in rats with either salt-dependent or genetic hypertension. We consider a fluid-structure interaction system coupling a viscous fluid governed by the compressible Navier-Stokes equations and a rigid body immersed in the fluid and modeled by the Newton's law. In this work, we consider the Navier slip boundary conditions. Our aim is to show the local in time existence and uniqueness of the strong solution to the corresponding problem. The main step of this work is that we use Lagrangian change of variables in order to handle the transport equation and to reduce the problem in the initial domain. However, the specificity here is that the Lagrangian coordinates do not coincide with the Eulerian coordinates at the boundaries since we consider slip boundary conditions. Therefore, it brings some extra nonlinear terms in the boundary conditions. Enterovirus-D68 (EV-D68) is a reemerging virus that has been associated with numerous outbreaks in children in the past 10 years. Most assays examining viral infection kinetics have relied on the use of quantitative RT-PCR (qRT-PCR) assays as an assay of choice. Though valuable, there are inherent limitations that introduce variability, thereby reducing its value when comparing results across the field. Unlike the qRT-PCR assay that uses a standard curve to determine the copy number of viral RNA, the droplet digital PCR assay (ddPCR) directly quantifies the absolute number of copies within a given sample, which in turn makes the assay highly sensitive and accurate. Here, we have developed an EV-D68-specific ddPCR assay that effectively quantifies EV-D68 RNA copies in both cells and supernatants within a dynamic range of 6.7 × 10−3 copies/μL to 1.2 × 104 copies/μL of the sample. The assay was highly specific for a broad range of EV-D68 isolates (Fermon, US/MO/14-18947, US/MO/14-18949, US/KY/14-18953, USA/2018-23088, USA/2020-23336 and EV-D68-infected human nasal turbinate samples from the 2022 outbreak) without cross-reactivity to other viruses such as Enterovirus-A71 (EV-A71), Human Parechovirus (HPeV)-1 and -2, Coxsackievirus (CV)-B1, Human Coronavirus (HCoV)-NL63, SARS-CoV-2, Influenza-A and B, Rhinovirus, and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)-A2, which are known to cause infection in children. The assay was able to readily quantify EV-D68 in infected cells and supernatants along with nasal turbinate samples collected from children during the 2022 outbreak. Knowledge of the time of deposition is pivotal in forensic investigations. Recent studies show that changes in intrinsic fluorescence over time can be used to estimate the age of body fluids. These changes have been attributed to oxidative modifications caused by protein–lipid interactions. This pilot study aims to explore the impact of these modifications on body fluid fluorescence, enhancing the protein–lipid model system for age estimation. Lipid and protein oxidation markers, including protein carbonyls, dityrosine, advanced glycation end-products (AGEs), malondialdehyde (MDA), and 4-hydroxynonenal (HNE), were studied in aging semen, urine, and saliva over 21 days. Surface plasmon resonance imaging (SPRi), enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and fluorescence spectroscopy were applied. Successful detection of AGE, dityrosine, MDA, and HNE occurred in semen and saliva via SPRi, while only dityrosine was detected in urine. Protein carbonyls were measured in all body fluids, but only in saliva was a significant increase observed over time. Additionally, protein fluorescence loss and fluorescent oxidation product formation were assessed, showing significant decreases in semen and saliva, but not in urine. Although optimization is needed for accurate quantification, this study reveals detectable markers for protein and lipid oxidation in aging body fluids, warranting further investigation. This study explores the impact of additive manufactured porous architecture on the tribological performance of Ti6Al4V. Biomimetic porous architectures were manufactured on dense multi-layer using direct energy deposition with a dense layer followed by a porous layer. Varied scanning intervals during laser processing for the porous layer influenced the microstructure and, consequently, the hardness, the corrosion resistance and the tribological behavior of the dense layer. The results indicate a substantial improvement in tribocorrosion performance, particularly noteworthy in reducing corrosive wear rates, making porous architectures beneficial for both biomimetic structures and enhanced tribocorrosion resistance in body fluids. Zinc has gained interest as a biodegradable material due to its adequate degradation behavior under physiological conditions and acceptable biocompatibility. However, during the use of zinc as a degradable orthopedical implant, the mechanical properties are expected to change while the implant needs to maintain its function and mechanical support for 12–24 months with the load gradually transferred from the degrading implant to the healing bone. For such investigation, six different kinds of open‐cell zinc foams are fabricated by a modified investment casting method displaying different pore densities and strut thicknesses. Compressive properties and corrosion behavior in simulated body fluids are studied to determine the map of the most relevant parameters that influence the degradation properties. After 4 weeks of immersion in Hank's solution, changes in the slope in the "plateau" region and strain localization are observed. Purpose: Bronchoalveolar lavage is commonly used in clinical practice for unresolved pneumonia. However, bronchoalveolar lavage is not suitable for all patients as it is an invasive procedure and can worsen oxygenation. The diagnostic value of bronchial wash and sputum has been debated extensively over the years. In this study, we aim to compare the diagnostic value in several pathogens of bronchoalveolar lavage and bronchial wash, and secondarily bronchoalveolar lavage and sputum. Methods: We retrospectively included all adult patients in our hospital who underwent bronchoalveolar lavage, bronchial wash, and where sputum sampling was done between January 1st of 2018 and December 31st of 2021. The intraclass correlation coefficient was computed for the three tests. Results: In total, 308 patients were included. We found a level of correlation of 0.819 and 0.865, respectively, between bronchoalveolar lavage and bronchial wash for two pathogens: Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. For Stenotrophomonas maltophilia and Aspergillus fumigatus, we found an intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.568 and 0.624, respectively. Between bronchoalveolar lavage and sputum, we found varying levels of agreement. Conclusion: Our study shows reasonably well agreement levels between bronchoalveolar lavage and bronchial wash, suggesting that bronchial wash could potentially be an alternative to bronchoalveolar lavage. Background: Fluid overload is associated with increased morbidity and mortality in critically ill patients. An accurate assessment of fluid status in neonatal cardiac pediatric patients is required for assessment of fluid overload. Estimation of fluid status using different Doppler parameters may be helpful in determination of fluid status. Purpose: To evaluate difference in fluid status in neonates with and without congenital heart diseases. To detect sensitivity of Doppler Ultrasound in early determination of fluid status. To compare between different parameters (IVC diameter, IVCCI, and IVC/AO ratio) between cardiac and healthy neonates. Methods: Transabdominal Doppler parameters of 25 full-term newborns with congenital heart diseases and congestive heart failure were compared to 25 post-natal age and sex-matched normal healthy neonates serving as controls. Aortic as well as inspiratory and expiratory inferior vena cava diameters were measured. Subsequently, inferior vena cava collapsibility index (IVCCI) and inferior vena cava-to-aortic ratio (IVC/AO) were calculated. Results: Fluid overload detected by increased IVC diameter (decreased IVCCI and increased IVC/AO ratio) was observed in the cardiac compared to the control group. There was positive correlation between the fluid volume and the IVC diameter and IVC/AO ratio and negative correlation with the IVC collapsibility indices. Conclusions: Fluid overload with increased IVC diameter and lack of IVC collapsibility were observed in neonates with congenital heart diseases and congestive heart failure compared with those hemodynamically stable controls. Objectives: We have recently described a predictive/prognostic model for ovarian cancer, exploiting commonly available clinico-pathological parameters and the ovarian serum biomarkers mesothelin (MSL), human epididymis protein 4 (HE4) and cancer-antigen 125 (CA125). Considering urine as a prototype non- invasive sample, we investigated whether serum levels of these biomarkers are mirrored in urine and compared their clinical relevance in matched serum vs. urine samples. Methods: MSL, HE4 and CA125 were quantified in urinary (n=172) and matched serum samples (n=188) from ovarian cancer patients (n=192) using the Lumipulse ® G chemiluminescent enzyme immunoassay (Fujirebio). Results: While absolute concentrations of MSL or CA125 were higher in serum than in matched urine samples, HE4 concentrations were considerably higher in urine than in serum. Nonetheless, the levels of all three biomarkers strongly correlated between matched serum vs. urine samples and were unrelated to BRCA1/2 mutational status. Consequently, prediction of surgical outcome or relapse/death by MSL, HE4 or CA125 was similarly efficient among urinary- vs. serum-based detection. HE4 provided the highest capacity to predict surgical outcome or relapse/death among both body fluids (urine: AUC=0.854; serum: AUC=0.750, respectively). All clinically relevant findings regarding the investigated urinary biomarkers were equally reproducible among raw vs. creatinine-normalized datasets, suggesting that normalization may have subordinate priority for urine-based analysis of these biomarkers. Conclusion: We report that the capacity of MSL, HE4 and CA125 to predict surgical outcome and relapse/death is equivalent between serum vs. urine-based detection. Valve control for patients feeding saline is a sensitive issue. Such a valve is used to control the amount of important fluid entering the body. In this paper, we present an intelligent method based on fuzzy logic (FL) to deliver drugs and nutrients to patients through intravenous catheters. The proposed method is called intelligent saline controlling valve (ISCV) and relies on three inputs and two outputs. Specifically, the fluid's drip, pressure, and the number of available bubbles are the three-valve inputs that control the two outputs which are the opening and closing. The sol-gel method for bioactive glass synthesis offers advantages such as precise control over the chemistry, a straightforward way of modifying the composition and lower processing temperatures. However, longer processing times are required, increasing energy consumption. The present work successfully produced 58S bioactive glass employing microwave technology and a two steps synthesis route, saving significant energy and time (76 % and 99 % respectively) compared to conventional methods such as sol-gel and hydrothermal method, directly impacting on cost savings and competitiveness. Microwave pressure played a key role: higher pressure led to lower content of residual nitrates and could reduce final processing temperature. This pressure dependence allows for precise control of the glass properties. The resulting glass closely resembled the characteristics and properties of the same glass produced by conventional methods, demonstrating the effectiveness of microwave technology. Human bone is composed of organic and inorganic composite materials, contributing to its unique strength and flexibility. Hydroxyapatite (HAP) has been extensively studied for bone regeneration, due to its excellent bioactivity and osteoconductivity, which makes it a highly valuable biomaterial for tissue engineering applications. For better therapeutic effects, composite nanofibers containing polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and polyvinyl Pyrrolidone (PVP) were developed using an electrospinning technique in this study. Herein, hydroxyapatite (a major inorganic constituent of native bone) concentrations varying from 5 to 25% were reinforced in the composite, which could alter the properties of nanofibers. The as-prepared composite nanofibers were characterized by SEM, TEM, XRD, and FT-IR spectroscopy, and a bioactivity assessment was performed in simulated body fluid (SBF). The ICP-OES analysis was used to determine the concentration of Ca2+ and PO42– ions before and after SBF immersion. To optimize the material selection, the nanofibrous scaffolds were subjected to cell proliferation and differentiation in MG-63 osteoblast cell lines, but no significant toxicity was observed. In conclusion, HAP-PVA-PVP scaffolds exhibit unique physical and chemical properties and ideal biocompatibility, with great promise to serve as effective candidates for bone tissue applications. Even though the biodegradability of polycaprolactone (PCL) and its nanocomposites is lower compared to other biodegradable polyesters, this property and good biocompatibility are used for development of materials for drug delivery with a long‐term effect. We prepared novel PCL/clay nanocomposite films with antimicrobials chlorhexidine (CH) or octenidine (OCT) combined with ZnO anchored on vermiculite (VER). The intercalation of CH and OCT into the interlayer of VER/ZnOVER was confirmed by XRD, FTIR and SEM. The organically modified nanofillers compared to VER (−46.0 mV) or ZnOVER (−34.9 mV) showed a positive ζ‐potential (+30.7 mV (VER_CH), +21.9 mV (VER_OCT), +24.6 mV (ZnOVER_CH)) indicating a relatively stable materials, except ZnOVER_OCT (+8.6 mV), which strongly agglomerated. Thin PCL/clay films were prepared by solvent casting method and the effect of used nanofillers on structural, thermal, mechanical and antimicrobial properties followed by degradation under hydrolytic conditions was studied. The results showed that presence of ZnO significantly decreases thermal and mechanical stability. The nanofillers with the higher hydrophilic character are responsible for the fastest degradation of PCL matrix. Films possessed high antimicrobial efficiency in long time intervals, hence these nanocomposites open new avenues for the possible application of such materials for the drug delivery with a long‐term effect. On-demand drug delivery holds great promise to optimize pharmaceutical efficacy while minimizing the side effects. However, existing on-demand drug delivery systems often require complicated manufacturing processes that preclude their wide implementation of a broad range of drugs. In this work, we demonstrate the introduction of MXene-coated microneedles (MNs) into bioelectronics for digitally controllable gate-valve drug delivery. MXenes, featuring high electronic conductivity, excellent biocompatibility, and solution processibility, enable low-cost scalability for printable bioelectronics. In an electrolytic state (e.g., body fluid), the coated MXene is oxidized and desorbed due to redox reactions caused by electrical bias, allowing the underlying drug to be controllably released. The MXene-incorporated drug delivery system not only demonstrates excellent biocompatibility and operational stability, but also features low-cost construction and sustainable usage. Besides, these MXene-coated MNs allow both on-demand transformation and local-region customization, further increasing the structural versatility and capability of multidrug delivery systems. Exosomes, as a class of small extracellular vesicles closely related to the biological behavior of various types of tumors, are currently attracting research attention in cancer diagnosis and treatment. Regarding cancer diagnosis, the stability of their membrane structure and their wide distribution in body fluids render exosomes promising biomarkers. It is expected that exosome-based liquid biopsy will become an important tool for tumor diagnosis in the future. For cancer treatment, exosomes, as the “golden communicators” between cells, can be designed to deliver different drugs, aiming to achieve low-toxicity and low-immunogenicity targeted delivery. Signaling pathways related to exosome contents can also be used for safer and more effective immunotherapy against tumors. Exosomes are derived from a wide range of sources, and exhibit different biological characteristics as well as clinical application advantages in different cancer therapies. In this review, we analyzed the main sources of exosomes that have great potential and broad prospects in cancer diagnosis and therapy. Background. Fungi produce many compounds have pharmaceutical usage. The current study was aimed to extract therapeutic compounds from fungi that grow in critical conditions and fungi that can be produced commercially which may have potential therapeutic activities against Leishmania donovani. Two fungal isolates were used to evaluate antileishmanial activities of their extracts, the first due to Aspergillus terreus was isolated from salty sediments, while another represented local edible mushroom of Agaricus bisporus. The experiment was conducted in vivo after four weeks infection of Leishmania donovani. Infected mice were treated intraperitonially with 2 and 4 mg/kg daily for 10 days. Result. All compound has a significant effect on the viability and decrease the number of parasites in animal in comparison with pentostam, as well as, the M19 was appeared with highest effect in both concentrations. The method of examining infected tissues had a role in determining the number of parasites without affecting the percentage of presence in different treatments, as the numbers of parasites calculated in the tissue sections are more realistic than the number of parasites calculated in the printing method, as counting the parasite with tissue sections gives an impression of the spatial distribution of the parasite, whether within tissues or body fluids, unlike the printing method, which shows the presence of the parasite in body fluids and immune cells thus be suitable for the diagnosis of parasite amastigote in vivo. Conclusion. The compound extracted during study and diagnoses by GC-Mass technique are promising applicants for research on new drugs with anti-Leishmania activity derived from natural products. Andes virus (ANDV) is a zoonotic Orthohantavirus leading to hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome. Although most transmissions occur through environmental exposure to rodent faeces and urine, rare person-to-person transmission has been documented, mainly for close contacts. This study investigates the presence and infectivity of ANDV in body fluids from confirmed cases and the duration of viraemia. In this prospective study, 131 participants with confirmed ANDV infection were enrolled in Chile in a prospective study between 2008 and 2022. Clinical samples (buffy coat, plasma, gingival crevicular fluid [GCF], saliva, nasopharyngeal swabs [NPS], and urine) were collected weekly for 3 weeks together with clinical and epidemiological data. Samples were categorised as acute or convalescent (up to and after 16 days following onset of symptoms). Infectivity of positive fluids was assessed after the culture of samples on Vero E6 cells and use of flow cytometry assays to determine the production of ANDV nucleoprotein. ANDV RNA was detected in 100% of buffy coats during acute phase, declining to 95% by day 17, and to 93% between days 23–29. ANDV RNA in GCF and saliva decreased from 30% and 12%, respectively, during the acute phase, to 12% and 11% during the convalescent phase. Successful infectivity assays of RT-qPCR-positive fluids, including GCF, saliva, NPS, and urine, were observed in 18 (42%) of 43 samples obtained during the acute phase of infection. After re-culture, the capacity to infect Vero E6 cells was maintained in 16 (89%) of 18 samples. Severity was associated with the presence of ANDV RNA in one or more fluids besides blood (odds ratio 2·58 [95% CI 1·42–5·18]). ANDV infection is a systemic and viraemic infection, that affects various organs. The presence of infectious particles in body fluids contributes to our understanding of potential mechanisms for person-to-person transmission, supporting the development of preventive strategies. Background WhatmanTMFTA (Flinders Technology Associates) is a form of card soaked in chemicals that denatures proteins while protecting DNA and ensuring the safe handling of dried body fluid spots (blood, semen, and saliva) and buccal cells. To this day, these cards are still infrequently used in forensic science. Therefore, reference samples including biological material may be collected on FTA cards for genetic analysis that have been widely used for DNA preservation and analysis, particularly in forensic sciences and genetic studies. The goal of the study was to evaluate the effects of cryopreservation on DNA quantitative and short tandem repeats (STR) profiling by comparing the yield and quality of DNA extracted before and after cryopreservation using FTA card and swabs in the forensic analysis. The mean total DNA concentration and the purity of seminal fluid from FTA-cards and swabs before and after sperm cryopreservation were measured by using nano-drop spectrophotometer (93.688 ± 12.5) (90.94 ± 13.9) ng/ µl; ( 221.07 ± 20.97)( 135.47 ± 19.6) ng/ µl respectively. Also a highly significant difference (p<0.001) was detected when the results of concentration DNA on FTA card were compared with dilution using wash media before and after sperm cryopreservation. Whereas significant difference (p<0.05) was observed between DNA concentration on FTA card with and without dilution after sperm cryopreservation. STR loci were present in the majority of data, particularly in FTA-card and swab samples where results explained that 100% of STR profiles were present in all 15 loci, both before and after sperm cryopreservation. In contrast to the conventional method of storing and analyzing STR profiling, it can be concluded that seminal fluid samples taken by FTA card and swabs can be taken and stored for a time by cryopreservation, leads to maintaining DNA integration in the field of criminal research. Introduction: Fixation plays an important role in fixing the cells, making them amenable for evaluation. Ethanol (95%) has been used as a standard cytological fixative. Honey can be introduced as a natural fixative. Objectives: 1. To study cytomorphological features of smears fixed in 20% unprocessed honey. 2. To study the efficacy of honey as a fixative when compared with ethanol in both hematoxylin and eosin (H and E) stain and Papanicolaou (PAP) stain for cytological samples. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was done in the Department of Pathology for 2 months on 100 cytological samples consisting of body fluids (peritoneal and pleural), cervical smears, and FNACs. These smears were fixed separately in 95% ethanol and 20% unprocessed honey for 5 minutes and were stained with both PAP and H and E stain. The cytomorphologies of both the smears were compared based on five parameters, clarity of staining, uniformity of staining, overall morphology, nuclear details, and cytoplasmic details, and the final score was calculated by adding all the scores: Total Score ≤2, poor score; 3–4, good score; 5, excellent score. Results: Cervical smears fixed in honey showed similar features to ethanol-fixed smears. Fluid smears fixed in honey and stained with PAP yielded superior results compared to those stained with H and E, as shown by a kappa value of 0.259. However, neither of the smears demonstrated statistical significance. The FNAC samples stained with H and E and PAP exhibited nearly identical results, with a kappa value of 0.688 and 0.647, respectively. FNAC and PAP smears were the next two most successful cytological smear types, with cervical smears exhibiting the best results of the three. Conclusion: In honey-fixed smears, we can easily observe all cellular features with clarity. It enhances safety and the working environment in the laboratory. The goal of the current work is to analyse the Zn scaffold porosity effects on its corrosion behavior. Organized porous network structure (OPNS) zinc samples with varying porosity were manufactured by a newly developed rapid tooling approach that combined 3D printing and microwave sintering. The outcomes of the OPNS Zn samples were also compared to the dense zinc sample. For the corrosion analysis, porous and dense zinc samples electrochemical corrosion testing were conducted in SBF electrolyte at 37 °C. The zinc samples morphological study was accessed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It was confirmed by the findings of the morphological study that the Zn samples contained randomly distributed micropores and designed or organized macropores. The zinc sample corrosion behavior in SBF was analyzed by potentiodynamic (PD) polarisation and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) curves. In addition, an electrical equivalent circuit (EEC) model was developed using the EIS experimental data to establish an understanding of the corrosion behavior of Zn samples. Overall corrosion testing results demonstrate that the diffusion mechanism had an impact on the corrosion mechanism of Zn samples and diffusion mechanism during electrochemical reaction supported by the porosity of the sample. The Zn samples corrosion rate was found to be minimum for the dense sample (0.14 mm y−1), while it was maximum for the highest porosity OPNS Zn sample (0.66 mm y−1). The potential evidential value of male underwear in cases of alleged sexual assault is often overlooked. Male underwear can be a critical item in the investigation of alleged sexual assaults. Body fluids/DNA, which may transfer to the penis during sexual contact, may in turn transfer to the inside front of the underwear, and persist for months or years, provided the underwear are not washed. Here, we demonstrate how the case circumstances drive the sampling strategy of male underwear, in order to maximize the effectiveness of the forensic analysis. Sampling considerations including recovery methods and sampling sequence are discussed, and a methodical examination strategy of male underwear is proposed. To highlight the pertinence of male underwear to the investigation of alleged sexual assaults, three real‐life cases are discussed, in which male underwear were examined for multiple body fluids/DNA, and the findings obtained proved evidentially significant. The different cases demonstrate the versatility of male underwear examination in situations, where different body fluids and DNA may transfer based on the specific allegation, and emphasize how targeted sampling can allow the scientist to assess the probability of the findings based on two competing propositions. Body fluids are one of the most encountered types of evidence in any crime and are commonly used for identifying a person's identity. In addition to these, they are also useful in ascertaining the nature of crime by determining the ty pe of fluid such as blood, semen, saliva, urine etc. Body fluids collected from crime scenes are mostly found in degraded, trace amounts and/or mixed with other fluids. However, the existing immunological and enzyme-based methods used for differentiating these fluids show limited specificity and sensitivity in such cases. To overcome these challenges, a new method utilizing microRNA expression of the body fluids has been proposed. This method is believed to be non-destructive as well as sensitive in nature and researches have shown promising results for highly degraded samples as well. This systematic review focuses on and explores the use and reliability of miRNAs in body fluid identification. The current study investigated the structure and function of the olfactory system of the Lusitanian toadfish, Halobatrachus didactylus, using histology and electrophysiology (electro‐olfactogram [EOG]), respectively. The olfactory system consists of a digitated anterior peduncle, of unknown function, containing the inhalant nostril. This then leads to a U‐shaped olfactory chamber with the olfactory epithelium—identified by Gαolf‐immunoreactivity—on the ventral surface. A large lacrimal sac is connected to this tube and is likely involved in generating water movement through the olfactory chamber (this species is largely sedentary). The exhalent nostril lies by the eye and is preceded by a bicuspid valve to ensure one‐way flow of water. As do other teleosts, H. didactylus had olfactory sensitivity to amino acids and bile acids. Large‐amplitude EOG responses were evoked by fluid from the anterior and posterior testicular accessory glands, and bile and intestinal fluids. Anterior gland and intestinal fluids from reproductive males were significantly more potent than those from non‐reproductive males. Male urine and skin mucus proved to be the least potent body fluids tested. These results suggest that chemical communication—as well as acoustic communication—may be important in the reproduction of this species and that this may be mediated by the accessory glands and intestinal fluid. Calcium phosphates are a major focus in the biomedical field. However, among the various types, calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate and their integration with polymers are not investigated widely in the literature. This study aims to produce calcium phosphate including calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate and hydroxyapatite integrated with gelatin by a novel method using a spray dryer. The bioactivity of these samples in simulated body fluid is examined to assess their potential usage in the biomedical area. Spray-dried samples are analyzed by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), X-ray diffractometer (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Regarding the samples soaked in SBF, FTIR and SEM analyses are conducted. Additionally, the absorption and degradation of pellets in simulated body fluid, as well as the pH change, are determined. This research investigates the usage of pipette tip micro solid phase extraction for the separation of 6-mercaptopurine of complicated matrices before its spectrophotometric detection. To overcome the non-selectivity of spectrophotometry, an ethylene glycol dimethacrylatebased molecularly imprinted polymer was prepared and applied as an adsorbent, which enabled selective and fast extraction of the analyte. To improve the transfer of the analyte to the adsorbent, a salting-out effect was employed by the addition of 300 mg of NaCl to the sample before performing microextraction. Variables affecting the microextraction of the protocol were investigated utilizing two ways one-factorat-a-time and response surface methodology, which showed good consistency with each other. Extraction parameters were optimized as pH of sample = 9.0, sample volume = 10 ml, amount of adsorbent = 2.0 mg, eluent = 250 µl of methanol:acetonitrile (1:5 v/v), and extraction and elution cycles of 10 and 12 times, respectively. The dynamic linear range of the protocol was 1.0-1000.0 µg l-1, with a limit of detection of 0.25 µg l-1. The method was compared with extraction by a non-imprinted polymer. The extraction efficiency of the analyte was obtained from 96.0% to 99.8%, by relative standard deviations better than 5.3%. The suggested technique was employed to determine 6-mercaptopurine in seawater and body fluid samples, and the results were validated by comparing them to a standard HPLC method. This paper reports on the coating of heterostructured TiO2 nanopores/nanotubes on Ti substrates by anodizing at high voltages to design surfaces for biomedical implants. As the anodized voltage from 50 V to 350 V was applied, the microstructure of the coating shifted from regular TiO2 nanotubes to heterostructured TiO2 nanopores/nanotubes. In addition, the dimension of the heterostructured TiO2 nanopores/nanotubes was a function of voltage. The electrochemical characteristics of TiO2 nanotubes and heterostructured TiO2 nanopores/nanotubes were evaluated in simulated body fluid (SBF) solution. The creation of heterostructured TiO2 nanopores/nanotubes on Ti substrates resulted in a significant increase in BHK cell attachment compared to that of the Ti substrates and the TiO2 nanotubes. Introduction: It is unheard of in the present day to cure prolapse without the use of medication by using plastic balls. A 70-year-old woman who has been 20 years into menopause and visited our OPD complaining of foul-smelling vaginal discharge. In addition, she occasionally had lower abdominal pain and social humiliation because of the offensive odor. There were no evident vulval/cervicovaginal growths or uterovaginal prolapses identified, and there was no history of fever or vaginal hemorrhage. On per speculum and per vaginal examination, a ring-shaped foreign body with a diameter of around 8 cm followed by a ball of 12 cm diameter was visualized and felt. She described an insertion that had been performed 20 years prior as prolapse therapy. There was no trauma associated with the removal of the foreign body. In this work, SnO2:TiO2 nano composite with silver dopant have been prepared by chemical route method at preparation temperature 100 ℃, with 6% Ag ratio. Titanium chloride (TiCl3) has been used as the precursors of TiO2 and tin chloride (SnCl2) were taken as the precursors of SnO2 in the laboratory. The prepared samples were described by FESEM, X-Ray diffraction and uv-visible spectrophotometer. Results show that compared to pure SnO2 and pure TiO2,SnO2:TiO2 nano composite calcined 400℃ shows a large surface area. The average crystalline size was estimated from XRD analysis by using Debye-Scherrer’s formula and the result shows that the crystalline size increases from (27.78) nm to (29.2354)nm after adding Ag. Bio activity application of the prepared composite has been tested after immersion SnO2:TiO2 nano composite in the simulated body fluid SBF, the morphology and particle size of the prepared immersed samples have been estimated after 20 days by FESEM images. Introduction: Conventional cytology smear method and cell block method are two important methods used for cytological diagnosis. Limitations of conventional smears have to be dealt with daily while reporting cytology. Despite the many advantages of the cell block method, it has been an underestimated diagnostic tool. The purpose of this study is to compare conventional smears and cell block preparations with different parameters and find out which one is more effective in evaluating body fluids. Materials and Methods: Sixty body fluids were studied by the conventional smear method and cell block method. Data were tabulated and analyzed. Results: The cell block method showed a significant increase in cellularity (83.3%) compared to the conventional method (50%) [P = 0.0001, significant]. The limitation of low cellularity was significantly reduced by the cell block method (8.3%) as compared to conventional smears (33.3%) [P = 0.0007, significant]. Morphology preservation was significantly more by cell block method (95%) versus conventional smears (60%) [P = 0.00001, significant]. The yield of malignancy increased by 3.33% in the present study. Suspicious cases on conventional smears could be confidently segregated as malignant or benign by the cell block method. Conclusion: The cell block technique should be routinely used along with conventional smears to improve diagnostic accuracy and resolve diagnostic dilemmas on conventional smears. Fluids are drugs used in veterinary patients capable of producing beneficial therapeutic or inadvertent harmful effects within the body's intravascular, interstitial, and intracellular fluid spaces. The individualized design of a fluid therapy plan requires careful patient assessment and targeted selection of proper fluid types, administration routes, and rates, along with adjustments during therapy tailored specifically as per the individual patient's fluid requirement and therapeutic response. Personalized fluid prescriptions and vigilant patient monitoring help avoid patient morbidity from body fluid deficiencies, fluid excess, and electrolyte derangements and support better patient outcomes. These guidelines provide an overview of fluid dynamics within the fluid spaces of the body, describe various types of fluids and their uses, and outline recommendations for fluid administration for resuscitation, rehydration, and maintenance purposes. The guidelines also outline approaches to fluid therapy for anesthetized patients and reiterate the recommendations of reduced fluid rates in this population of patients. Additionally, the guidelines include practical fluid therapy strategies for patients with various common disorders. Background and Study Aim In the Indonesian national rugby team, there is a lack of awareness among back and forward players about the amount of fluids they lose while playing their respective positions. This is due to the different intensity and roles associated with each position. The aim of this research is to determine the difference in body fluid loss between players in the forward and back positions in the Indonesian national rugby team. Material and Methods The research method used in this study was an experimental method with a two-group pre-test and post-test design. The data collection process employed purposive sampling with the criterion of selecting 12 individuals from a population of 23 who were willing to participate. The data analysis technique used was the independent t-test. Results The research results concluded that there was a significant difference in body weight between the initial and final tests for players in the forward position. The t-count of 7.661 exceeded the t-table value of 2.571. Similarly, for players in the back position, there was a significant difference in body weight before and after the match. The t-count of 4.805 exceeded the t-table value of 2.571. Furthermore, when comparing fluid loss between forwards and backs, there was a significant difference. The t-count of 2.443 was greater than the t-table value of 2.222. This demonstrates the difference in fluid loss after competing with the Indonesian national rugby team. Conclusions The weight of both forward and back players decreased after competing. There are differences in body fluid loss between the two positions, with forwards losing more fluid than backs. This study provides empirical evidence that the position played on the field influences the amount of body fluid lost during the game. Background: The NiTi alloy, known for its shape memory and superelasticity, is increasingly used in medicine. However, its high nickel content requires enhanced biocompatibility for long-term implants. Low-temperature plasma treatments under glow-discharge conditions can improve surface properties without compromising mechanical integrity. Methods: This study explores the surface modification of a NiTi alloy by oxidizing it in low-temperature plasma. We examine the impact of process temperatures and sample preparation (mechanical grinding and polishing) on the structure of the produced titanium oxide layers. Surface properties, including topography, morphology, chemical composition, and bioactivity, were analyzed using TEM, SEM, EDS, and an optical profilometer. Bioactivity was assessed through the deposition of calcium phosphate in simulated body fluid (SBF). Results: The low-temperature plasma oxidization produced titanium dioxide layers (29–55 nm thick) with a predominantly nanocrystalline rutile structure. Layer thickness increased with extended processing time and higher temperatures (up to 390 °C), though the relationship was not linear. Higher temperatures led to thicker layers with more precipitates and inhomogeneities. The oxidized layers showed increased bioactivity after 14 and 30 days in SBF. Conclusions: Low-temperature plasma oxidation produces bioactive titanium oxide layers on NiTi alloys, with a structure and properties that can be tuned through process parameters. Background: Most modern haematology analysers have a dedicated body fluid mode for cell counts of body fluids. Many analysers also count the number of high fluorescence cells (HF cells). HF cells have a large nuclear size and emit high fluorescence when stained with fluorescent dyes. Due to their large nuclear size, Malignant cells are counted as HF cells. Aims and Objectives: We aim to determine the diagnostic utility of HF cells in predicting the presence of malignant cells in serous effusions. Materials and Methods: HF cell counts were done on 209 serous fluid samples using the body fluid mode of Mindray BC-6800 plus haematology analyser. Papanicilaou-stained smears of all samples were examined for the presence of malignant cells by a panel of cytopathologists. ROC curve analysis was done to determine the sensitivity and specificity of HF cells in malignant effusions. Results: Out of 209 samples, malignant cells were found by microscopy in 97 cases (46.4%). The absolute number and percentage of HF cells were significantly higher (P < 0.001) in malignant effusions (HF# = 24.9 cells/ul, HF% = 10.4%) when compared to non-malignant samples (HF# = 4.95 cells/ul, HF% = 5.76%). ROC curve analysis determined an optimal cut-off of ≥30 HF cells/ul (sensitivity = 73.91, specificity = 55.66%) for the prediction of malignant cells. Conclusion: HF cells in serous effusions can be a helpful tool to aid the pathologist, but it is not an ideal screening test due to its low sensitivity (67.74%) and negative likelihood ratio (0.5) at a cut-off of ≥30 HF cells/ul. However, due to high specificity of 83.18% at a cut-off of ≥72 HF cells/ul, a meticulous search for malignant cells should be done on microscopy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Liquid biopsy represents a groundbreaking technology enabling the detection, analysis, and monitoring of circulating targets in body fluids, such as blood, to acquire crucial molecular insights into tumorigenesis and progression mechanisms. Offering non‐invasiveness and real‐time capabilities, liquid biopsy facilitates the tracking of tumor evolutionary dynamics and exploration of tumor heterogeneity, thereby holding immense value for tumor diagnosis, personalized treatment, and prognostication. Therefore, an effective analysis of circulating targets in body fluids is essential. However, the complexity of biological systems poses notable challenges to achieving high sensitivity and accuracy in liquid biopsy. Aptamers possess inherent advantages of high specificity and affinity, with the added benefit of modifiability and design flexibility to enhance their performance under different practical conditions, rendering them ideal recognition elements for liquid biopsy. This review provides a comprehensive summary of design strategies for aptamer applications in liquid biopsy, including advanced aptamer screening strategies, aptamer‐based recognition designs, and signal amplification techniques. When a ship sails in shallow water, it will show different hydrodynamic performance from that in deep water due to the limitations of water depth. The shallow water effect may lead to hull sinkage and trim, increasing the risk of bottoming or collision. In this study, a new design scheme of a shallow-water seismic survey vessel is proposed to solve the problems of traditional seismic survey vessels in shallow-water marine resources exploration and safety. The RANS (the Reynolds-Averaged Navier–Stokes) method combined with the Overset Mesh and DFBI (Dynamic Fluid Body Interaction) method is used for numerical simulation to analyze the influence of ship type, water depth, and speed on ship sinkage and trim, as well as the influence of the shallow-water ship's attitude on resistance. The results show that with the decrease in water depth and the increase in speed, the pressure distribution around the hull becomes uneven, which leads to the aggravation of the sinkage and trim of the hull. In response to this problem, the shallow-water seismic survey vessel significantly improved the sinkage and trim of the hull in shallow water to ensure its safe navigation. The research also shows that navigation resistance can be effectively reduced by appropriately adjusting the ship's attitude. Unidirectional and multidirectional laminates of Mg‐wire‐reinforced poly‐lactic‐acid–matrix composites are manufactured by an improved compression molding strategy that allows excellent control on the position and orientation of the wires. Two different types of Mg wires, with and without surface modification by continuous plasma electrolytic oxidation, are used, the former to improve the interfacial strength and to reduce the degradation rate of Mg wires in biological environments. The mechanical properties of the constituents as well as of composites are measured before and after in vitro degradation by immersion in simulated body fluids and the corresponding deformation, fracture, and degradation mechanisms are analyzed in detail. It is found that the presence of the Mg wires improves the mechanical behavior in tension and compression of unidirectional composites in the longitudinal direction (close to cortical bone) and that quasi‐isotropic laminates with tailored properties can be designed from the data of unidirectional composites. Neurofilament light chain (NfL) is a neuron-specific structural protein released into the extracellular space, including body fluids, upon neuroaxonal damage. Despite evidence of a link in neurological disorders, few studies have examined the association of serum NfL with mortality in population-based studies. Data from the National Health and Nutrition Survey were utilized including 2,071 Non-Hispanic White, Non-Hispanic Black and Hispanic adult participants and adult participants of other ethnic groups (20–85 years) with serum NfL measurements who were followed for ≤ 6 years till 2019. We tested the association of serum NfL with mortality in the overall population and stratified by sex with the addition of potential interactive and mediating effects of cardio-metabolic risk factors and nutritional biomarkers. Elevated serum NfL levels (above median group) were associated with mortality risk compared to the below median NfL group in the overall sample (P = 0.010), with trends observed within each sex group (P < 0.10). When examining Loge NfL as a continuum, one standard deviation of Loge NfL was associated with an increased mortality risk (HR = 1.88, 95% CI 1.60–2.20, P < 0.001) in the reduced model adjusted for age, sex, race, and poverty income ratio; a finding only slightly attenuated with the adjustment of lifestyle and health-related factors. Four-way decomposition indicated that there was, among others, mediated interaction between NfL and HbA1c and a pure inconsistent mediation with 25(OH)D3 in predicting all-cause mortality, in models adjusted for all other covariates. Furthermore, urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio interacted synergistically with NfL in relation to mortality risk both on the additive and multiplicative scales. Background: The therapeutic efficacy of an active Pharmaceutical ingredient depends on its solubility in body fluids. The low bioavailability of nearly 90% of new active Pharmaceutical ingredients and 40% of the existing molecules is attributed to their poor solubility. The current study aimed to improve the oral bioavailability of lapatinib by designing and optimizing nanostructured lipid carriers for it. Materials and Methods: The formulation utilized the microemulsion technique as a method of preparation and the Box Behnken design was used for optimization. Results: The average particle size, drug entrapment, and release, in percentages, were observed to be 237.09 nm, 72.32%, and 74.66% respectively. BACKGROUND: The dysfunction of bladder function caused by spinal cord injury is a difficult point in clinical treatment and a hot spot in research. Repairing the injured spinal cord and remodeling the bladder micturition reflex pathway are the fundamental treatment methods. OBJECTIVE: To summarize the reconstruction of the bladder innervation pathway after spinal cord transection injury and its related influencing factors. METHODS: The relevant literature concerning the reconstruction of bladder micturition reflex, neurogenic bladder and urinary reflex and spinal cord repair was retrieved on CNKI, WanFang Data, PubMed and Web of Science. Chinese and English search terms were “neurogenic bladder; spinal cord injury; micturition reflex; spinal cord repair”. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: In the process of reconstructing the bladder micturition reflex, there are many factors involved, including the repair and reconstruction of the injured spinal cord, the remodeling of micturition center, the changes of bladder tissue and substances and hormones in and out of the body. In this process, there are mainly the following problems: (1) As a complex process, there are many sites involved in the reconstruction of the micturition reflex, so the main sites of action can be selected for in-depth study, so as to break through the doubts existing in the reconstruction of the micturition reflex pathway. (2) The mechanism of the normal micturition reflex is complex. After spinal cord transection injury, whether the central nucleus mass controlling or participating in the micturition reflex is compensated and the corresponding compensatory mechanism needs to be further investigated. (3) Information communication between the center and the bladder is interrupted after spinal cord transection injury. Whether there is a direct information connection between the center and the bladder remains to be further investigated. (4) The relationship between reconstructing micturition reflex and body fluid after spinal cord transection injury needs further study. In the reconstruction of the bladder micturition reflex, the key treatment is to promote spinal cord repair, nerve reflex reconstruction, substance metabolism and bladder tissue structure adjustment through intervention. The droplet deposition methods in Raman spectroscopy have received considerable attention in the field of analytical sensing focusing on effective pre-concentration of the studied analyte (coffee-ring effect or small spots). This review covers different analytical applications of drop-coating deposition Raman scattering (DCDRS) and droplet deposition surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectroscopy. Two main advantages of droplet deposition Raman techniques are considered: the drying-induced segregation of the components from the mixtures (such as body fluids) and the sensitivity of detection of various analytically important molecules. Some recent advanced applications, including clinical cancer diagnosis, are discussed and summarized. Biomechanical attributes have emerged as novel markers, providing a reliable means to characterize cellular and subcellular fractions. Numerous studies have identified correlations between these factors and patients' medical status. However, the absence of a thorough overview impedes their applicability in contemporary state-of-the-art therapeutic strategies. In this context, we provide a comprehensive analysis of the dimensions, configuration, rigidity, density, and electrical characteristics of normal and abnormal circulating cells. Subsequently, the discussion broadens to encompass subcellular bioparticles, such as extracellular vesicles (EVs) enriched either from blood cells or other tissues. Notably, cell sizes vary significantly, from 2 μm for platelets to 25 μm for circulating tumor cells (CTCs), enabling the development of size-based separation techniques, such as microfiltration, for specific diagnostic and therapeutic applications. Although cellular density is relatively constant among different circulating bioparticles, it allows for reliable density gradient centrifugation to isolate cells without altering their native state. Additionally, variations in EV surface charges (-6.3 to -45 mV) offer opportunities for electrophoretic and electrostatic separation methods. The distinctive mechanical properties of abnormal cells, compared to their normal counterparts, present an exceptional opportunity for diverse medical and biotechnological approaches. This review also aims to provide a holistic view of the current understanding of popular techniques in this domain that transcend conventional boundaries, focusing on early harvesting of malignant cells from body fluids, designing effective therapeutic options, cell targeting, and resonating with tissue and genetic engineering principles. Zr-50Ti alloys are promising biomaterials due to their excellent mechanical properties and low magnetic susceptibility. However, Zr-50Ti alloys do not inherently bond well with bone. This study aims to enhance the bioactivity and bonding strength of Zr-50Ti alloys for orthopedic implant materials. Initially, the surface of Zr-50Ti alloys was treated with a sulfuric acid solution to create a microporous structure, increasing surface roughness and area. Subsequently, low crystalline calcium phosphate (L-CaP) precipitation was controlled by adding Mg2+ and/or CO32− ions in modified simulated body fluid (m-SBF). The treated Zr-50Ti alloys were then subjected to cold isostatic pressing to force m-SBF into the micropores, followed by incubation to allow L-CaP formation. The apatite-forming process was tested in simulated body fluid (SBF). The results demonstrated that the incorporation of Mg2+ and/or CO32− ions enabled the L-CaP to cover the entire surface of Zr-50Ti alloys within only one day. After short-term soaking in SBF, the L-CaP layer, modulated by Mg2+ and/or CO32− ions, formed a uniform hydroxyapatite (HA) coating on the surface of the Zr-50Ti alloys, showing potential for optimized bone integration. After soaking in SBF for 14 days, the bonding strength between the apatite layer and alloy has the potential to meet the orthopedic application requirement of 22 MPa. Endometrial cancer (EC) is one of the most common malignant tumors among women in the 21st century, whose mortality rate is increasing every year. Currently, the diagnosis of EC is possible only after a biopsy. However, it is necessary to find a new biomarker that will help in both the diagnosis and treatment of EC in a non-invasive way. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are small, covalently closed spherical and stable long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) molecules, which are abundant in both body fluids and human tissues and are expressed in various ways. Considering the new molecular classification of EC, many studies have appeared, describing new insights into the functions and mechanisms of circRNAs in EC. In this review article, we focused on the problem of EC and the molecular aspects of its division, as well as the biogenesis, functions, and diagnostic and clinical significance of circRNAs in EC. The secreted proteins of human body fluid have the potential to be used as biomarkers for diseases. These biomarkers can be used for early diagnosis and risk prediction of diseases, so the study of secreted proteins of human body fluid has great application value. In recent years, the deep-learning-based transformer language model has transferred from the field of natural language processing (NLP) to the field of proteomics, leading to the development of protein language models (PLMs) for protein sequence representation. Here, we propose a deep learning framework called ESM Predict Secreted Proteins (ESMSec) to predict three types of proteins secreted in human body fluid. The ESMSec is based on the ESM2 model and attention architecture. Specifically, the protein sequence data are firstly put into the ESM2 model to extract the feature information from the last hidden layer, and all the input proteins are encoded into a fixed 1000 × 480 matrix. Secondly, multi-head attention with a fully connected neural network is employed as the classifier to perform binary classification according to whether they are secreted into each body fluid. Our experiment utilized three human body fluids that are important and ubiquitous markers. Experimental results show that ESMSec achieved average accuracy of 0.8486, 0.8358, and 0.8325 on the testing datasets for plasma, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), and seminal fluid, which on average outperform the state-of-the-art (SOTA) methods. The outstanding performance results of ESMSec demonstrate that the ESM can improve the prediction performance of the model and has great potential to screen the secretion information of human body fluid proteins. Background: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is nowadays a major emerging challenge for public health worldwide. The over- and misuse of antibiotics, including those for cell culture, are promoting AMR while also encouraging the research and employment of alternative drugs. The addition of antibiotics to the cell media is strongly recommended in sperm preservation, being gentamicin the most used for boar semen. Because of its continued use, several bacterial strains present in boar semen have developed resistance to this antibiotic. Antimicrobial peptides and proteins (AMPPs) are promising candidates as alternative antibiotics because their mechanism of action is less likely to promote AMR. In the present study, we tested two AMPPs (lysozyme and nisin; 50 and 500 µg/mL) as possible substitutes of gentamicin for boar semen preservation up to 48 h of storage. Results: We found that both AMPPs improved sperm plasma membrane and acrosome integrity during semen storage. The highest concentration tested for lysozyme also kept the remaining sperm parameters unaltered, at 48 h of semen storage, and reduced the bacterial load at comparable levels of the samples supplemented with gentamicin (p > 0.05). On the other hand, while nisin (500 µg/mL) reduced the total Enterobacteriaceae counts, it also decreased the rapid and progressive sperm population and the seminal oxidation-reduction potential (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The protective effect of lysozyme on sperm function together with its antimicrobial activity and inborn presence in body fluids, including semen and cervical mucus, makes this enzyme a promising antimicrobial agent for boar semen preservation. Cerium (Ce) ions exhibit multifunctional biological properties, such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anticancer properties. Consequently, the development of Ce-containing biomaterials with therapeutic characteristics has received considerable research attention. In this study, Ce-doped 13–93 bioactive glass (Ce-BG) was prepared using the conventional melt-quenching method. The physical phases, surface morphologies, elemental contents, and elemental valence states of the samples were analysed. The concentration of the ions released from the samples in deionised water was determined, and their ability to induce hydroxyapatite was evaluated. The photothermal properties were tested by irradiating the samples with an 808 nm laser. The results indicate that an increase in the Ce content within a certain range did not affect the amorphous structure and morphology of the bioactive glass. Ce content variation affected the photothermal effect of Ce-BG. The wet state powder sample could be rapidly heated up to 58.24 °C under 2 W/cm2 laser irradiation at 5 mol% Ce doping, showing the best photothermal performance. Further, bacterial experiments demonstrated the good antimicrobial effect of this sample. Simulated body fluid immersion experiments revealed the ability of the Ce-BG to induce hydroxyapatite production. Furthermore, in vitro cell culture studies showed that the Ce-BG was not toxic to MC3T3-E1 cells and induced cell proliferation after 3 days.
