The objectives of this study were: i) to classify animals into groups of high and low feed efficiency (FE) using three FE indexes (Residual feed intake (RFI), Residual weight gain (RG) and Feed conversion efficiency (FCE)), and ii) to evaluate whether crossbreed Holstein x Gyr heifers divergent for FE indexes exhibit differences in nutrient intake and digestibility, energy partitioning, heat production, methane emissions, nitrogen partitioning and blood parameters. Thirty-five heifers were housed in a tie-stall, received ad libitum TMR (75:25, corn silage: concentrate) and were ranked and classified into high (HE) or low efficiency (LE) for RFI, RG and FCE. The number of animals for each HE group were 13 (< 0.5 standard deviation (SD) for RFI, 11 for RG and 11 for FCE (> 0.5 SD) and for the LE were 10 (> 0.5 SD) for RFI, 11 for RG and 12 for FCE (< 0.5 SD). Gas exchanges (O2 consumption, CO2 and CH4 production) in open-circuit respiratory chambers and whole tract digestibility trial was performed. A completely randomized experimental design was used and the data were analyzed by ANOVA and correlation study. High efficiency animals for RFI produced less CO2, consumed less O2 and had lower heat production (HP). Methane production was positively correlated with RFI. High efficiency RG had higher O2 consumption and CO2 production in relation to LE-RG. High efficiency FCE had greater NFC digestibility, higher positive energy balance (EB) and excreted (11.4 g/d) less nitrogen in urine. High efficiency RG and FCE groups emitted less CH4 per kg of weight gain than LE animals. Animals HE for RFI and FCE had lower β-hydroxybutyrate and higher glucose concentrations, respectively. The differences in intake, digestibility, energy and nitrogen partition, CH4 emission, blood metabolic variables and heat production between the HE and LE groups varied according to the efficiency indexes adopted. The HP (kcal/d/BW0.75) was lower for HE animals for RFI and FCE indexes.

ABSTRACT Consumption of dietary supplements by adults musculation practicers in fitness centers inland of Pernambuco The high prevalence in the practice of musculation practicers in fitness centers in the country may be associated with the search for the population by the development of a better physical conditioning and maintenance of healthy habits of life. And to achieve "faster" results, musculation practicers increasingly submit to the consumption of dietary supplements. Therefore, the objective of the study was to evaluate the consumption of dietary supplements by adults musculation practicers in academies in the interior of Pernambuco. For this, a descriptive cross - sectional study was carried out, with 180 adults practicing bodybuilding, aged between 18 and 59 years enrolled in two fitness centers in the municipalities of Alagoinha and Pesqueira, located in Agreste of Pernambuco, Brazil. There was a high consumption of food supplements (56.7%), with a higher frequency of males. Among the products used, those based on protein were the most consumed by both sexes. Therefore, it is noticed that there is a disordered consumption of dietary supplements that when inadequately prescribed by disabled professionals or lay individuals can cause possible undesirable effects in those who consume them. Thus, the high consumption of dietary supplements by musculation practicers demonstrates the need to sensitize the population to appropriate and conscious use.

Peripheral dermal fibroblasts (DF) from a healthy 56 year old female were obtained from the Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing (CHeBA) Biobank, University of New South Wales, under the material transfer agreement with the University of Wollongong. DFs were reprogrammed via mRNA-delivered transcription factors into induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). The generated iPSCs were confirmed to be pluripotent, capable of three germ layer differentiation and are thus a useful resource for creating iPSC-derived healthy human cells of any lineage.Resource tableUnlabelled TableUnique stem cell line identifierUOWi001-AAlternative name(s) of stem cell lineiPSC RB 9–8InstitutionIllawarra Health and Medical Research Institute, University of WollongongContact information of distributorLezanne Ooi, lezanne@uow.edu.auType of cell lineiPSCOriginHumanAdditional origin infoAge: 56Sex: femaleCell SourceDermal fibroblastClonalityClonalMethod of reprogrammingTransgene-freeGenetic ModificationNoType of ModificationN/AAssociated diseaseN/AGene/locusN/AMethod of modificationN/AName of transgene or resistanceN/AInducible/constitutive systemN/ADate archived/stock date21/12/17Cell line repository/bankN/AEthical approvalHE 13/299 University of Wollongong Human Ethics Committee

The phosphorus (P) utilization of the mineral fertilizer by the corn plants ((Zea mays L.) can be maximized with the appropriate supply of nitrogen (N). The objective of this work was to evaluate the utilization, by corn plant, of phosphorus (P) from 32P labeled triple superphosphate(TSP-32P) under different rates, and P from soil, as by crop residues of green manures sunnhemp (Crotalaria juncea L.) or millet (Pennisetum glaucum L.) and different N rates. The experiment was conducted in greenhouse of the Center for Nuclear Energy in Agriculture - CENA/USP, Piracicaba, S. Paulo, Brazil, using pots with 5 kg of soil (Rhodic Dystroferric Hapludox) cerrado phase (savannah). The experimental design was completely randomized, with 32 treatments and four replicates, in a 4x4x2 factorial array. The treatments were combinations of four P rates as TSP-32P: 0, 0.175, 0.350 and 0.700 g P per pot; four N rates as urea: 0, 0.75, 1.50 and 2.25 g N per pot; and sunnhemp and millet. Green manure dry matter provided 1 g N per pot. Corn plants were evaluated for dry mass yield, P content, accumulated P, and P recovery from TSP-32P and from soil plus green manures. The P recovery from TSP-32P increased with the increasing supply of nitrogen and decreased with increasing rates of the TSP. The mineral fertilizer supplied most of the accumulated phosphorus in the corn plants. The recovery by corn plant of the P fertilizer was in average of 13.12 %. The different residues of green manures influenced the assimilation of P of the triple superphosphate by corn plant.

General Medicine - Abstract

The Brazilian Cerrado is the second largest Brazilian biome. In recent decades, a reduction in rainfall has indicated an extension of the dry season. Among the many native species of the Cerrado of the Annonaceae family and used in folk medicine, Annona crassiflora Mart. has fruits of high nutritional value and its by-products are sources of bioactive compounds, such as alkaloids. The aim of the study was to investigate how water stress impacts the production of alkaloids. The study was carried out in a nursery, and the knowledge was flood, field capacity and drought. Gas exchange, chlorophyll a fluorescence, antioxidant enzymes, total soluble sugars, starch, reducing sugars, sucrose, total alkaloids and liriodenine were analyzed. We observed that plants subjected to drought had an increase in the production of total alkaloids and liriodenine, without a reduction in photosynthetic metabolism. Plants kept under drought and flood conditions dissipated higher peroxidase activity, while catalase was higher in flooded plants. Starch showed the highest concentration in flooding plants without differing from drought plants; the lowest trehalose concentrations were found in both drought and flooding plants. The drought stimulated the synthesis of total alkaloids and liriodenine without reducing the primary metabolism, which suggests adaptation to Cerrado conditions.

Abstract Historically, in the Brazilian diaspora, training, professional practices, and the production of knowledge have not prioritized epistemologies, knowledge, and ancestral black practices, neglecting rights, singularities and needs inherent to black people. Statistically configured as the majority in Brazil, this population should be the target of political, academic, and practical actions that contemplate their unique ways of being in the world, reversing universal logics. This manuscript aims to present how the Iṣẹ́ Research: construction of clinical, cultural and educational approaches aimed at the black population, linked to the Lab-Iṣẹ́/UFRJ, has contributed to the processes of formation and restitution of black subjectivities in Brazil. The research method is qualitative with a cartographic approach. The proposal is to carry out the mapping of black theoretical and conceptual bases in scientific, clinical, cultural, and educational productions in undergraduate courses in the country. For this article, the focus was on the occupational therapy undergrad course at UFRJ, more specifically at Lab-Iṣẹ́, as it is the first occupational therapy laboratory in Brazil dedicated to the black population. In addition to the survey and analysis of theoretical and documentary materials, the narratives of the laboratory team made it possible to consider as a result how much afro-referenced occupational therapy has been an important construction leading to the processes of formation and subjectivation of black people involved in the actions of the Laboratory. It is hoped that this work will inspire the entire field for the reformulation of its whitened practices.

Surface runoff monitoring is important for the sustainable management of global water resources. Obtaining a practical and inexpensive method for collecting data in the field can help to better understand surface runoff and its effects, necessary for the management of watersheds. This study sought to elaborate the calibration curves of the ultrasonic sensor due to temperature variability, verifying the inaccuracy of the distance between objects and the sensor, and determining the feasibility of using low-cost sensors in an in-loco experiment installed on Parshall flumes. The experiment was conducted on the Experimental Farm of the Federal University of Grande Dourados, Dourados, MS, Brazil. The data were collected by twelve HC-SR04 ultrasonic distance sensors , which were coupled to a data acquisition system composed of an expansion board connected to a Raspberry minicomputer. Sensor calibration using temperature data resulted in the error correction of ± 8.0 mm of distance reading. On the other hand, the R2 of the comparison curves between sensor and control system (laser distance meter and ruler in the flume) resulted in high values (above 0.95), showing the feasibility of its use and meeting the specifications for use in the field subject to weather conditions. This study demonstrates the performance of ultrasonic sensors as a potential for new application to evaluate surface runoff aiming to propose new runoff coefficients.

This study investigated the similarities between Echinodorus macrophyllus and Echinodorus grandiflorus, plant species that are traditionally used in Brazil to treat rheumatism and arthritis, whose anti-inflammatory effects are supported by scientific evidence. The contents of cis- and trans-aconitic acid, homoorientin, chicoric acid, swertisin, caffeoyl-feruloyl-tartaric acid, and di-feruloyl-tartaric acid were quantified by UPLC-DAD in various hydroethanolic extracts from the leaves, whereas their anti-oxidant activity and their effect on TNF release by LPS-stimulated THP-1 cells were assessed to evaluate potential anti-inflammatory effects. The 50% and 70% ethanol extracts showed higher concentrations of the analyzed markers in two commercial samples and a cultivated specimen of E. macrophyllus, as well as in a commercial lot of E. grandiflorus. However, distinguishing between the species based on marker concentrations was not feasible. The 50% and 70% ethanol extracts also exhibited higher biological activity, yet they did not allow differentiation between the species, indicating similar chemical composition and biological effects. Principal component analysis highlighted comparable chemical composition and biological activity among the commercial samples of E. macrophyllus, while successfully distinguishing the cultivated specimen from the commercial lots. In summary, no differences were observed between the two species in terms of the evaluated chemical markers and biological activities.

Abstract This article deals with the arrival of the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC) and its impacts on the work of science teachers. The methodology was the Grounded Theory, which consists of a form of malleable and, at the same time, rigorous qualitative research to answer complex problems by proposing explanatory theories about the studied reality. Through semi-structured interviews with science teachers from a Brazilian city, a set of data was gathered which, through consecutive codifications, served as the basis for the following substantive theory: the BNCC brings high-end changes to basic education. As a result, science teachers find an increased amount of content to be covered, which in turn brings new demands to the students. This leads to changes in the work of teachers, a movement that contrasts with their current training and generates training gaps.

General Dentistry - Abstract
To evaluate hydrogel-based scaffolds embedded with parathyroid hormone (PTH)-loaded mesoporous bioactive glass (MBG) on the enhancement of bone tissue regeneration in vitro.MBG was produced via sol-gel technique followed by PTH solution imbibition. PTH-loaded MBG was blended into the hydrogels and submitted to a lyophilisation process associated with a chemical crosslinking reaction to the production of the scaffolds. Characterisation of the MBG and PTH-loaded MBG scaffolds, including the scanning electron microscope (SEM) connected with an X-ray detector (EDX), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), compression strength, rheological measurements, swelling and degradation rates, and PTH release analysis, were performed. Also, bioactivity using simulated-body fluid (SBF), biocompatibility (MTT), and osteogenic differentiation analyses (von Kossa and Alizarin Red stainings, and μ-computed tomography, μCT) of the scaffolds were carried out.SEM images demonstrated MBG particles dispersed into the hydrogel-based scaffold structure, which was homogeneously porous and well interconnected. EDX and FTIR revealed large amounts of carbon, oxygen, sodium, and silica in the scaffold composition. Bioactivity experiments revealed changes on sample surfaces over the analysed period, indicating the formation of carbonated hydroxyapatite; however, the chemical composition remained stable. PTH-loaded hydrogel-based scaffolds were biocompatible for stem cells from human-exfoliated deciduous teeth (SHED). A high quantity of calcium deposits on the extracellular matrix of SHED was found for PTH-loaded hydrogel-based scaffolds. μCT images showed MBG particles dispersed into the scaffolds' structure, and a porous, lamellar, and interconnected hydrogel architecture.PTH-loaded hydrogel-based scaffolds demonstrated consistent morphology and physicochemical properties for bone tissue regeneration, as well as bioactivity, biocompatibility, and osteoinductivity in vitro. Thus, the scaffolds presented here are recommended for future studies on 3D printing.Bone tissue regeneration is still a challenge for several approaches to oral and maxillofacial surgeries, though tissue engineering applying SHED, scaffolds, and osteoinductive mediators might help to overcome this clinical issue.

General Medicine - Abstract
The use of spillways, such as Parshall and WSC flumes, are widely used for fluid flow measurement, as in Water and Sewage Treatment Plants, measurement of runoff for agricultural purposes. Thus, it has been used in scientific works in which it is necessary to obtain the flow rate, due to measurement accuracy, ease of construction and operation. Therefore, the objective was to dimension and build flumes like Parshall and WSC, and adjust a mathematical model to estimate the drained flow depending on the height of the depth water in these flumes. The experiment was carried out in the Federal University of Grande Dourados in Hydraulics Laboratory, where flow values for flumes were measured by the volumetric method. The data were subjected to the normality test and regression adjustment for potential function. With the results, a good adjustment of the calibration equation was verified, obtaining high values of determination coefficients for the flumes, WSC (R2 = 0.98) and Parshall (R2 = 0.99), the minimum and maximum flows observed were, respectively, 0.039 and 2.23 m3 h-1 for WSC and 0.11 m3 h-1 e 4.44 m3 h-1 for Parshall, meeting the specifications for use in experimental plots with typical weather of the South region of Mato Grosso do Sul State.
