The Zr–Cu–Ni–Al system was explored in this study, and seven new compositions of Zr-based bulk metallic glasses (BMGs) were designed by combining different proportions of binary eutectic phases Zr 38 Cu 62 , Zr 76 Ni 24 and Zr 51 Al 49 , and rod-like shape samples were prepared with different diameters using the copper mold casting method. Modifying the proportion coefficient of these eutectic units, the width of the supercooled liquid region was increased from 79 to 95 K, and the thermal stability of the prepared metallic glass was improved. Differential scanning calorimetry was used to investigate the non-isothermal and isothermal crystallization behavior of the prepared samples. Noticeably, there was a small low-temperature exothermic peak before the glass transition temperature T g in the non-isothermal crystallization process, which was related to the structural relaxation. The crystallization transition activation energy fitted by the Kissinger equation had the same variation trend as that obtained by the Arrhenius equation. Among the four metallic glasses studied, the glassy phase of Zr 55·5 Cu 23·25 Ni 9 Al 12.25 was more stable, showing higher glass transition activation energy and longer incubation time. In addition, the isothermal crystallization processes of four metallic glasses were studied according to the Johnson-Mehl-Avrami (JMA) model. The calculated average Avrami exponents were >2.5, indicating that the nucleation rate increased during the isothermal crystallization process. • Novel quaternary Zr–Cu–Ni–Al BMGs with diameter of 8 mm was fabricated. • Proportional modification of eutectic units can improve GFA in the Zr-based alloy. • The Zr 55·5 Cu 23·25 Ni 9 Al 12.25 alloy exhibited longer incubation time. • The nucleation rate increased during isothermal crystallization. Ultrafiltration (UF) is widely used in drinking water plants; however, membrane fouling is unavoidable. Natural organic matter (NOM) is commonly considered as an important pollutant that causes membrane fouling. Herein, we proposed VUV/H 2 O 2 as a UF pretreatment and used UV/H 2 O 2 for comparison. Compared to UV/H 2 O 2 , the VUV/H 2 O 2 system presented superior NOM removal. In the VUV/H 2 O 2 system, the steady-state concentration of HO• was approximately twice that in the UV/H 2 O 2 system, which was ascribed to the promoting effect of the 185 nm photons. Specifically, 185 nm photons promoted HO• generation by decomposing mainly H 2 O at a low H 2 O 2 dose or by decomposing mainly H 2 O 2 at a high H 2 O 2 dose. The VUV/H 2 O 2 pretreatment also demonstrated better membrane fouling mitigation performance than did UV/H 2 O 2. An increase in the H 2 O 2 dose promoted HO• generation, thereby enhancing the performance of NOM degradation and membrane fouling alleviation and shifting the major membrane fouling mechanism from cake filtration to standard blocking. The VUV/H 2 O 2 (0.60 mM) pretreatment effectively reduced disinfection byproducts (DBPs) formation during chlorine disinfection. Additionally, the oxidant H 2 O 2 affected the membrane surface morphology and performance but had no evident effect on the mechanical properties. In actual water treatment, the VUV/H 2 O 2 pretreatment exhibited better performance than the UV/H 2 O 2 pretreatment in easing membrane fouling, ameliorating water quality, and reducing DBPs formation and acute toxicity. This study aimed to present a comprehensive assessment of anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) rearrangements evaluated by DNA/RNA‐based next‐generation sequencing (NGS) and Ventana immunohistochemistry (IHC) in patients with non‐small‐cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and to evaluate the therapeutic outcomes of ALK tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) treatment. We investigated ALK gene fusions in 14,894 patients with NSCLC using Ventana IHC and NGS, including 12,533 cases detected via DNA‐based NGS and 2,361 cases using RNA‐based NGS. The overall percentage agreement (OPA), positive percentage agreement (PPA), and negative percentage agreement (NPA) were calculated when comparing the results between NGS and IHC. The therapeutic responses to ALK‐TKIs were also evaluated. In total, 3.50% (439/12,533) of specimens were NGS ALK‐positive (NGS‐p) in the DNA‐based NGS cohort and 3.63% (455/12,533) were IHC ALK‐positive (IHC‐p). The OPA of NGS was 99.60%, whereas its PPA and NPA were 92.75 and 99.86%, respectively. In the adenocarcinoma (ADC) subcohort, the PPA was 95.69%. In the RNA‐based NGS cohort, 2.20% (52/2,361) of specimens were NGS‐p and 2.63% (62/2,361) were IHC‐p. The OPA of NGS was 99.49%; its PPA and NPA were 82.26 and 99.96%, respectively. Thirteen patients with discordant results received ALK‐TKI treatment. In the seven NGS‐p/IHC‐negative (IHC‐n) patients, the overall response rate (ORR) was 85.4% (6/7) and the disease control rate (DCR) was 100%. In the six NGS‐negative/IHC‐p patients, the ORR was 66.7% (4/6) and the DCR was 100%. In summary, a high concordance of ALK gene fusion detected via NGS and IHC was observed in this study. DNA‐based NGS had a higher OPA, PPA, and PPA in the ADC subcohort, whereas RNA‐based NGS had a higher NPA. Overall, the results suggest that the combination of NGS and IHC can improve the accuracy of ALK fusion detection; hence, a result determination algorithm for clinical detection of ALK gene fusion was also proposed. Key message: A reliable locus confers broad-spectrum resistance to multiple plant viruses in soybean under field conditions. Soybean mosaic disease (SMD) can be caused by a variety of viruses, most of which have been largely overlooked in breeding programs. Effective mitigation of the adverse of SMD might result from breeding cultivars with broad-spectrum resistance. However, reports on broad-spectrum resistance to multiple virus have been limited. To catalog viral community members behind SMD, virus samples were collected from symptomatic field plots, and pathogenicity of component strains was assessed. Preliminary ELISA and PCR detection revealed that 39.58% and 66.67% of samples contained two or more virus strains, respectively. Only three soybean accessions were completely asymptomatic, while 42% exhibited moderate or severe susceptibility, indicating that co-infection of multiple virus remains a significant threat in current soybean production systems. Further, a RIL population consisting of 150 F7:9 strains derived from two soybean genotypes with contrasting reactions to virus infection was constructed and explored for significant markers and resistance genes. QTL analysis returned a reliable locus, named GmRmv, on chromosome 13. Significance of GmRmv in imparting resistance to SMD was further confirmed in NIL lines and delimited into a 157-kb interval that contains 17 annotated genes. Among these genes, three, Glyma.13G190000, Glyma.13G190300 and Glyma.13G190400, each contained LRR domains, as well as significant variation in coding sequences between resistant and susceptible parents. Hence, these three genes are considered strong candidate genes for explaining GmRmv significance. In summary, this research opens a new avenue for formulating strategies to breed soybean varieties with broad-spectrum resistance to multiple virus associated with SMD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
