Abstract

Alcoholism is a disease that affects some part of brain that control emotion, decisions, and behavior. Sometimes, people experience situation that have to drink alcohol in their social life. Alcoholic needs cognitive behavior therapy to develop restraint on alcohol craving. Alcohol craving could be triggered when exposure to object, environment, or social pressure situation which is related with alcohol. But cognitive behavior therapy have defect in which does not provide social pressure situation properly. Virtual reality (VR) is humancomputer interface that computer expressed an immersive and interactive three-dimensional virtual environments like real space in world. In this study, we developed alcohol craving induction system using virtual reality to provide social situations in which avatar asks to drink together. Nine males and one female (age from 21 to 27 years) who do not have any history of alcohol related disease were recruited for this experiment. In the results, in situation without social pressure, more alcohol craving was induced in situation with alcohol than that of a situation without alcohol. Abstract

Patients with hemiplegia have an asymmetric gait symptom due to a hemiplegic paralysis. Hip, knee, angle joint angle are measured for suitable gait training of hemiplegic gait disorder. Measured angles are used to grasp the difference between normal and abnormal sides. In particular, knee joint is more important than the other joints to hemiplegic patients. So, we developed marker based knee angle measurement system which is able to measure angle of knee joint using PC and PC camera. Then we integrated VR rehabilitation training system with the marker based knee angle measurement system. VR tasks were constructed with crossing stepping-stones to practice knee flexion and extension during walking. To validate feasibility of VR system, we performed experiment using a treadmill with a speed of 2.0 km/h and various target angles (40 degree, 50 degree, and 70 degree). The purpose of this study ascertained that normal participants make a success of task with the usual target angle (50 degree) as well as the unusual target angle (40 and 70 degree). 217. USING THE CHLORIDE MIGRATION RATE TO PREDICT THE CHLORIDE PENETRATION RESISTANCE OF CONCRETE.

Abstract

An experimental investigation is conducted to study the relationship between the chloride diffusion coefficient and charge passed. In this study, the concrete specimens made with different w/c (ranging from 0.35 to 0.65) and different slag contents (ranging from 0% to 70%) were used in the RCPT, ACMT, and ponding tests. From the test results, the charge passed shows no direct correlation with the diffusion coefficient obtained from the ponding test when concrete containing slag,but it indicates fair correlation when concrete without mineral admixtures. However, whether or not containing slag, it shows a linear correlation between the steady-state diffusion coefficients from ACMT and the non-steady-state diffusion coefficient from the ponding test. It appears that the ACMT may be more useful method than RCPT, when corresponding to long-term chloride diffusion test. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

221. Efficacy of flubendazole and albendazole against Trichinella spiralisin mice

Abstract

Efficacy of flubendazole and albendazole against Trichinella spiralisin mice were studied. ICR mice were experimentally infected with Trichinella spiralisand treated with either flubendazole (FBZ) or albendazole (ABZ) at four different stages of the parasite life-cycle. Oral administration of either FBZ or ABZ at 20 mg/kg and 50 mg/kg on 2 h, 8 h and 24 h (pre-adult stage) after infection eliminated 94.7 - 100 % of adults as determined at necropsy on day 7 post infection (p.i.) and 96.9 ~ 100 % of larvae on day 45 p.i. FBZ was more effective than ABZ against adult T. spiralis(at 2 to 6 days p.i.), when treated with a dosage of 20 mg/kg for 5 consecutive days (99.4 % and 46.0 % reduction with respect to the control group). Against migrating larval T. spiralis, FBZ was more effective than ABZ at 20 mg/kg for five consecutive days (on days 11 ~ 15 p.i.), and the reduction rate of recovered larvae were 99.6 % (FBZ) and 80.8 % (ABZ) respectively. FBZ was more effective against early encapsulated larval T. spiralis(at 21 to 25 days p.i.), than ABZ when both were given at 20 mg/kg for five consecutive days (99.8 % and 45.4 % reduction, respectively). In conclusion, flubendazole was more effective than albendazole against adult and parenteral stages of Trichinella spiralisin mice.

Abstract

Abstract: The composite alloy of Ti0.32Cr0.43V0.25 with x wt% La (where x = 0–10) was prepared by arc melting technique. The effect on hydrogen storage capacity, flatness of the plateau pressure, and residual hydrogen was investigated in La added Ti0.32Cr0.43V0.25. Crystalline phase and microstructure of the prepared composite alloy were investigated and characterized by XRD, SEM and TEM. The crystal structure was refinement using Rietveld analysis. The effective hydrogen storage capacity of the composite alloy was found comparable to the parent alloy, when 5 wt% La was added. The effective hydrogen capacity (∼2.31 wt%) was close to that of the parent alloy (2.35 wt%) and the plateau slope was significantly improved from 30.5 of the parent alloy to 14.6. Appropriate mechanisms associated with the improved flatness by the La addition has been discussed in terms of the refined crystalline structure. Using TG/DTA method we have shown the differences in the interaction of residual hydrogen with the BCC phase of both parent alloy and 5 wt % La mixed alloy. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract

ObjectiveTo evaluate the structural relationship between the cornea and the optic disc in normal subjects.MethodsThis hospital-based observational study included 205 eyes from 205 individuals who were diagnosed as normal at our glaucoma clinic. The subjects underwent an eye examination, optic disc imaging with optic disc photography, optical coherence tomography, IOL master, specular microscopy, and ultrasound corneal pachymetry.ResultsIn univariate regression models (Pearson's correlation coefficient), the cup-to-disc (CD) ratio showed a negative correlation with corneal curvature (r=−0.315, P<0.001) and central corneal thickness (r=−0.206, P=0.005), and a positive correlation with white-to-white diameter (horizontal limbus to limbus distance, r=0.215, P=0.003). In multiple linear regression models with CD ratio as the dependant parameter, the CD ratio was still significantly associated with corneal curvature (β=−0.205, P=0.011) and white-to-white diameter (β=0.207, P=0.010). The central corneal thickness failed to show statistical significance, but did show a negative correlation with borderline significance (β=−0.133, P=0.075).ConclusionsEyes with a large CD ratio have large and flat corneas; this may suggest that there is a structural relationship between the cornea and the optic disc. Abstract

Abstract: We report the impact of a copper hexadecafluorophthalocyanine (F16CuPc) layer inserted between the electrode (Ag and Au) and the pentacene active layer in organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs). The electrical characteristics of the transistor are highly improved with the insertion of F16CuPc in devices having either an Ag or an Au electrode. The threshold voltage was reduced remarkably from −26.20V to −3.72V after inserting the F16CuPc layer in the device with an Ag electrode. In order to examine the effect of the F16CuPc layer, we evaluated the energy level alignments at the interfaces of pentacene/Ag and pentacene/F16CuPc/Ag by in situ ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy. The hole-injection barrier from the Ag electrode to the pentacene layer is 0.55eV with F16CuPc, while it is 0.80eV without F16CuPc. The enhancements in the threshold and turn-on voltages are understood with the energy level alignments at the electrode–pentacene interface. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract

Abstract: The conducting charge transfer complex formed on the C60/Cu interface after heat treatment was investigated by using density functional theory. We optimized the geometries of the C60 and C60–Cu complexes. Then, a comparison of the valence band spectrum with the simulated density of states revealed detailed molecular properties. We confirm that the C60–Cu complex layer formed at the C60/Cu interface enhances charge transfer. The conducting complex creates both an occupied gap state and unoccupied states between the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) of C60. These states lead to the formation of Ohmic contact between the C60 layer and the Cu layer. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

247. The Dependence of the Flux Pinning Effects on the Au Mole Fraction in Y1Ba2Cu3–3xAu3xO7–δ Superconductors

Abstract

Measurements of the dependences of the magnetization relaxation and the magnetization hysteresis on the Au mole fraction in Y1Ba2Cu3—3xAu3xO7—δ superconductors have been performed to investigate the flux pinning effects. As the Au mole fraction increases, the density of the Y1Ba2Cu3—3xAu3xO7—δ superconductor becomes larger due to its decreased porosity. The zero-field-cooled and the field-cooled measurements show that the critical temperatures are independent of the Au mole fraction but that the Meissner effects increase slightly with increasing Au mole fraction. The values obtained for the flux pinning potential and for the width of the magnetization decrease with increasing Au mole fraction except the Au mole fraction of 0.01. These results indicate that the flux pinning effects are decreased by substituting Au into Y1Ba2Cu3—3xAu3xO7—δ superconductors.

Abstract

Data recorded by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider are analyzed to search for neutral Higgs bosons produced in association with b quarks. The search is performed in the three-b-quark channel using multijet-triggered events corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.2 fb−1. In the absence of any significant excess above background, limits are set on the cross section multiplied by the branching ratio in the Higgs boson mass range 90 to 300 GeV, extending the excluded regions in the parameter space of the minimal supersymmetric standard model.

Abstract

We present new direct constraints on a general Wtb interaction using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb−1 collected by the D0 detector at the Tevatron pp¯ collider. The standard model provides a purely left-handed vector coupling at the Wtb vertex, while the most general, lowest dimension Lagrangian allows right-handed vector and left- or right-handed tensor couplings as well. We obtain precise limits on these anomalous couplings by comparing the data to the expectations from different assumptions on the Wtb coupling.

Abstract

We present the first measurement of the inclusive three-jet differential cross section as a function of the invariant mass of the three jets with the largest transverse momenta in an event in pp¯ collisions at s=1.96 TeV. The measurement is made in different rapidity regions and for different jet transverse momentum requirements and is based on a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 0.7 fb−1 collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The results are used to test the three-jet matrix elements in perturbative QCD calculations at next-to-leading order in the strong coupling constant. The data allow discrimination between parametrizations of the parton distribution functions of the proton.
