Education is an inexcusable human right, and that all children should learn together in the same school is social justice. The study in which this article is framed analyses and interprets, from the inclusive approach, the schooling process of a pupil with a serious disability in her local state school, as well as the success and opportunities this schooling entailed for her family, the school, and the community. The study is contextualized within the framework of inclusive education as a right of all children to quality education, and uses the life-history biographical narrative method. For gathering information, use is made of interviews and discussion groups, in addition to the collection of records. The results provide evidence that inclusive education is possible because it is proven; it is just because it is a right; and it is necessary because it offers an inevitable opportunity for success and learning for everyone. Maria and her family gain in quality of life; her classmates and their families experience and learn inclusive values; and the school and its teachers have the opportunity to reflect on and improve their teaching practices in order to provide all pupils with quality education.

This research aimed to analyzewhether positive traits could explain optimal functioning, the combination of high well-being and performance, of active workers. The sample comprised 400 active Argentinean workers between the ages of 18 and 66 years old (MAGE=36.50, SD=11.81, 49.5% male, 50.5% female). Multiple lineal regressions revealed that positive traits increase the explained variance of the work variables (performance, satisfaction and well-being) in comparison to a prediction model that only included normal traits. Also, discriminant analysis revealed that of all traits, positive and normal, the only one that better discriminated the high/low optimal functioning groups was the positive trait sprightliness.

E-Learning is a new learning approach that involves the use of electronic technologies to access education outside of a conventional classroom (Alonso Rincon,). The objective of E-Learning systems is to increase the students’ learning skills by providing a customized experience to each system user (Rodrigues, 2013). However, to accomplish this, it is necessary to monitor the continuous changes in the environment, mainly the students’ knowledge and skill acquisition. A multi-agent system architecture and a clustering algorithm are proposed for this purpose (as presented in (Rodrigues, 2014) This paper is an extension to the work of (Al-Tarabily, 2018) because it not only monitors changes in the student environment but also in the project environment, increasing the system’s adaptability and accuracy.

Los nuevos métodos de enseñanza-aprendizaje, con apoyo de los entornos virtuales, como extensión asincrónica de las aulas, han determinado que el docente asuma nuevos roles, algunos de los cuales pasan por aumentar su capacidad de observación y convertirse en analista del proceso de aprendizaje de los estudiantes, del uso que hacen de las plataformas digitales, su interrelación con ellas y entre sí, y de cómo adquieren conocimientos y desarrollan algunas competencias. Desde ésta óptica, el trabajo aborda una primera explotación de los usos y registros estadísticos, que a modo de huella digital, dejan los estudiantes en cursos presenciales en los espacios virtuales, y que definen tipologías y patrones diferenciados de aprendizaje según ritmos, aspecto éste que puede conllevar a una reflexión y reorientación del proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje futuro. En concreto, el estudio de caso recoge resultados descriptivos de la interacción del uso que los estudiantes realizan de los recursos digitales con la evaluación continua y las calificaciones en la asignatura de Análisis Microeconómico Avanzado, del grado en Economía (GECO), UCM en el curso 2018-19, aportando un perfil de uso aún muy tradicional y polarizado, vinculada con mínimos desfases al cronograma de las actividades propuestas por el profesor.

El objetivo de este trabajo consistió en la búsqueda de distintos perfiles de afrontamiento en adolescentes bonaerenses y su análisis en relación a la presencia de sintomatología psicológica. Participaron 459 adolescentes de edades entre 12 y 18 años (M=15.51; DE=1.80; 51.6% varones y 48.4% mujeres). Los resultados principales indicaron una solución de tres clusters en el caso de las mujeres: uso de afrontamientos aproximativos, uso de afrontamientos evitativos, y poco afrontamiento. Y tres clusters en el caso de los varones: poco afrontamiento, afrontamiento moderado y alto afrontamiento. Se estudiaron diferencias en distintas medidas de psicopatología según la pertenencia al cluster. Las mujeres que presentaron más síntomas pertenecían al cluster de afrontamientos evitativos. En el caso de los varones tenían menos síntomas quienes informaron una baja frecuencia de afrontamiento. Los resultados indican la importancia de estudiar el uso de las estrategias de afrontamiento de manera simultánea en términos de perfiles.

This study investigates the effects of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) on two potentially toxic Pseudo-nitzschia hasleana and P. mannii, isolated from a PAH contaminated marine environment. Both species, maintained in non-axenic cultures, have been exposed during 144 h to increasing concentrations of a 15 PAHs mixture. Analysis of the domoic acid, showed very low concentrations. Dose–response curves for growth and photosynthesis inhibition were determined. Both species have maintained their growth until the end of incubation even at the highest concentration tested (120 µg l-1), Nevertheless, P mannii showed faster growth and seemed to be more tolerant than P. hasleana. To reduce PAH toxicity, both species have enhanced their biovolume, with a higher increase for P. mannii relative to P hasleana. Both species were also capable of bio-concentrating PAHs and were able to degrade them probably in synergy with their associated bacteria. The highest biodegradation was observed for P. mannii, which could harbored more efficient hydrocarbon-degrading bacteria. This study provides the first evidence that PAHs can control the growth and physiology of potentially toxic diatoms. Future studies should investigate the bacterial community associated with Pseudo-nitzschia species, as responses to pollutants or to other environmental stressors could be strongly influence by associated bacteria.

Most tissue biopsies from patients in hospital environments are formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded (FFPE) for long-term storage. This fixation process produces a modification in the proteins called “crosslinks”, which improves protein stability necessary for their conservation. Currently, these samples are mainly used in clinical practice for performing immunohistochemical analysis, since these modifications do not suppose a drawback for this technique; however, crosslinks difficult the protein extraction process. Accordingly, these modifications make the development of a good protein extraction protocol necessary. Due to the specific characteristics of each tissue, the same extraction buffers or deparaffinization protocols are not equally effective in all cases. Therefore, it is necessary to obtain a specific protocol for each tissue. The present work aims to establish a deparaffinization and protein extraction protocol from FFPE kidney samples to obtain protein enough of high quality for the subsequent proteomic analysis. Different deparaffination, protocols and protein extraction buffers will be tested in FFPE kidney samples. The optimized conditions will be applied in the identification by LC-MS/MS analysis of proteins extracted from 5, 10, and 15 glomeruli obtained through the microdissection of FFPE renal samples.

Introduction Cannabis use in pregnancy is related to developmental and mental disorders. The acknowledgement of prenatal exposure frequently depends on the mother’s report, which can often be omitted. There exists little bibliography of the different methods to detect the use of cannabis during pregnancy, with no standardized screening available. Objectives The objective of this study is to review the available bibliography about screening of cannabis use during pregnancy and neonates and to analyze the different methods of prenatal screening being used in clinical practice. Methods A systematic review of the methods of screening of cannabis use during pregnancy and neonates was carried out in PubMed (July 2020) in English, French and Spanish(10 years) with the keywords: screening, test, detection, analysis, urine, blood, hair, meconium.107 studies were analyzed: 52 included and 55 excluded (Figure 1.). Results The studies analyzed stand out for its large heterogeneity. Self-report of pregnant women, meconium and maternal urine analysis are used the most. The type of analysis technique is not reported or chromatography mass spectrometry (GC/MS) and enzyme-linked inmunoabsorbent assay (ELISA) is used(Figure 2.). Urine seems to be the most accurate method for maternal testing. Neonatal meconium and umbilical cord tissue indicates fetal exposure during second and third trimester, neonatal hair third trimester exposure and maternal serum and hair can also be used (Figure 3.). Conclusions Nowadays, the available bibliography is heterogeneous and lacks information. Consequentially, further investigation needs to be carried out in order as to establish standardized prenatal screening of cannabis during pregnancy to draw more comparable and precise conclusions. Este artículo presenta los resultados de una investigación sobre la implementación de un Programa de Observación y feedback entre iguales (POFEI) en 47 centros escolares de la comunidad de XX. Se trata de una experiencia pionera, auspiciada por la XX, que trata de valorar de qué modo el POFEI contribuye al desarrollo de la práctica profesional. En concreto, el trabajo se centra en identificar, caracterizar y valorar el feedback que surge entre las parejas docentes que participan en el programa. Para ello se aplica un cuestionario al finalizar la experiencia y se analizan los reportes de feedback que elaboran los sujetos implicados en el estudio. Entre los resultados, destaca la buena valoración que hacen los participantes de la experiencia, ya que la mayoría manifiesta haberse sentido cómodo/a y un alto porcentaje piensa repetir dicha práctica en el futuro. Se detecta, sin embargo, que el tipo de retroacción que prevalece es mayoritariamente de apoyo y de carácter informativo, lo que permite reflexionar sobre la necesidad de organizar acciones formativas con el profesorado, que amplíen sus estrategias de evaluación y feedback. Con todo, el estudio muestra que la retroalimentación entre iguales, a tenor de los acuerdos y cambios que introduce el profesorado participante, puede convertirse en una poderosa herramienta que potencia el desarrollo profesional y mejora la práctica docente.

Maya hieroglyphic script (300 BCE–1500 CE) is a semi-deciphered logographic and syllabic autochthonous writing system from the Americas and is one of the most significant writing traditions of the ancient world. Because of its incomplete state of decipherment, complexity and variation in graphematics, and partially lost lexicon, transliterations cannot be used within the encoding. The project Text Database and Dictionary of Classic Mayan approaches this challenge with an encoding strategy relying on stand-off markup, which is enriched with additional information sources. Using different formats (RDF, XML) and standards (CIDOC CRM, TEI P5), the inscriptions are encoded in a multilevel corpus: (1) a tei_all-compliant schema defining values and rules for the encoding of the text’s topological and structural features, (2) a “Sign Catalogue” for the classification of Maya hieroglyphs, and (3) the tool ALMAH (Annotator for the Linguistic analysis of MAya Hieroglyphs) for linguistic analyses. In this paper, we focus on the TEI schema and highlight our strategy for encoding hieroglyphs without using linguistic transliterations and transcriptions.

IntroductionThis study was aimed to identify risk factors associated with unfavorable outcomes (composite outcome variable: mortality and need for mechanical ventilation) in patients hospitalized in Galicia with COVID-19 pneumonia.MethodsRetrospective, multicenter, observational study carried out in the 8 Galician tertiary hospitals. All Patients admitted with confirmed COVID-19 pneumonia from 1st of March to April 24th, 2020 were included. A multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed in order to identify the relationship between risk factors, therapeutic interventions and the composite outcome variable.ResultsA total of 1292 patients (56.1% male) were included. Two hundred and twenty-five (17.4%) died and 327 (25.3%) reached the main outcome variable. Age [odds ratio (OR) = 1.03 (95% confidence interval (CI): 1.01-1.04)], CRP quartiles 3 and 4 [OR = 2.24 (95% CI: 1.39-3.63)] and [OR = 3.04 (95% CI: 1.88-4.92)], respectively, Charlson index [OR = 1.16 (95%CI: 1.06-1.26)], SaO2 upon admission [OR = 0.93 (95% CI: 0.91-0.95)], hydroxychloroquine prescription [OR = 0.22 (95%CI: 0.12-0.37)], systemic corticosteroids prescription [OR = 1.99 (95%CI: 1.45-2.75)], and tocilizumab prescription [OR = 3.39 (95%CI: 2.15-5.36)], significantly impacted the outcome. Sensitivity analysis using different alternative logistic regression models identified consistently the ratio admissions/hospital beds as a predictor of the outcome [OR = 1.06 (95% CI: 1.02-1.11)].ConclusionThese findings may help to identify patients at hospital admission with a higher risk of death and may urge healthcare authorities to implement policies aimed at reducing deaths by increasing the availability of hospital beds.

Introduction: A growing evidence suggests that immune dysregulation and thrombotic phenomena are key features in the pathophysiology of COVID-19. Apart from antivirals and respiratory support, anticoagulants, corticoids and immunomodulators are increasingly being prescribed, especially for more severe cases. We describe the clinical outcome of a large cohort of patients preferentially treated with glucocorticoids and interleukin inhibitors. Methods: Single center and retrospective case series. Adult patients admitted with COVID-19 related respiratory insufficiency were included. Patients who died within 2 days after admission and those testing positive but asymptomatic were excluded. We defined two study periods: from March 3rd to March 31 st, 2020 (beginning of epidemic until peak of incidence) and April 1 st to May 7 th, 2020 (second half of epidemic). The majority of patients received respiratory support, combinations of antimicrobials, anticoagulants, corticoids and interleukin inhibitors. Antivirals were preferentially given in the first period. The clinical outcome (death and ventilator dependency) of both periods was compared. Results: From March 3 rd to May 7 th, 685 patients were included for analysis (58.4% males, mean age 68.9 years). Patients in the first period (n ​= ​408) were younger (66.6 vs 71.1 years, p ​= ​0.003), presented lower mean P a O 2/F i O2 ratio at admission (256.5 vs 270.4 ​mm Hg,p ​= ​0.0563), higher ferritin (1520 vs 1221 ​ng/ml, p ​= ​0.01), higher IL-6 (679 vs 194 ​pg/ml, p ​

Haploinsufficiency of the SCN1A gene encoding voltage-gated sodium channel Na(V)1.1 causes Dravets syndrome, a childhood neuropsychiatric disorder including recurrent intractable seizures, cognitive deficit and autism-spectrum behaviours. The neural mechanisms responsible for cognitive deficit and autism-spectrum behaviours in Dravets syndrome are poorly understood. Here we report that mice with Scn1a haploinsufficiency exhibit hyperactivity, stereotyped behaviours, social interaction deficits and impaired context-dependent spatial memory. Olfactory sensitivity is retained, but novel food odours and social odours are aversive to Scn1a(+/-) mice. GABAergic neurotransmission is specifically impaired by this mutation, and selective deletion of Na(V)1.1 channels in forebrain interneurons is sufficient to cause these behavioural and cognitive impairments. Remarkably, treatment with low-dose clonazepam, a positive allosteric modulator of GABA(A) receptors, completely rescued the abnormal social behaviours and deficits in fear memory in the mouse model of Dravets syndrome, demonstrating that they are caused by impaired GABAergic neurotransmission and not by neuronal damage from recurrent seizures. These results demonstrate a critical role for Na(V)1.1 channels in neuropsychiatric functions and provide a potential therapeutic strategy for cognitive deficit and autism-spectrum behaviours in Dravets syndrome.

Introduction: The COVID-19 outbreak is having an impact on the well-being of healthcare workers. Mindfulness-based interventions have shown effectiveness in reducing stress and fostering resilience and recovery in healthcare workers. There are no studies examining the feasibility of brief mindfulness-based interventions during the COVID-19 outbreak.Materials and Methods: This is an exploratory study with a post intervention assessment. We describe an on-site brief mindfulness intervention and evaluate its helpfulness, safety, and feasibility.Results: One thousand out of 7,000 (14%) healthcare workers from La Paz University Hospital in Madrid (Spain) participated in at least one session. One hundred and fifty out of 1,000 (15%) participants filled out a self-report questionnaire evaluating the helpfulness of the intervention for on-site stress reduction. Ninety two subjects (61%) participated in more than one session. Most of the participants were women (80%) with a mean age of 38.6 years. Almost half of the sample were nurses (46%). Sessions were perceived as being helpful with a mean rating of 8.4 on a scale from 0 to 10. Only 3 people (2%) reported a minor adverse effect (increased anxiety or dizziness).Discussion: Our data supports the utility, safety and feasibility of an on-site, brief mindfulness-based intervention designed to reduce stress for frontline health workers during a crisis. There is a need to continue testing this type of interventions, and to integrate emotion regulation strategies as an essential part of health workers' general training.Clinical Trial Registration number: NCT04555005.

Background: Malnutrition and cachexia are common in patients with advanced pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and have a significant influence on the tolerance and response to treatments. If timely identified, malnourished PDAC patients could be treated to increase their capacity to complete the planned treatments and, therefore, possibly, improve their efficacy.Aims: The aim of this study is to assess the impact of nutritional status, pancreatic exocrine insufficiency (PEI), and other clinical factors on patient outcomes in patients with advanced PDAC.Methods: PAncreatic Cancer MAlnutrition and Pancreatic Exocrine INsufficiency in the Course of Chemotherapy in Unresectable Pancreatic Cancer (PAC-MAIN) is an international multicenter prospective observational cohort study. The nutritional status will be determined by means of Mini-Nutritional Assessment score and laboratory blood tests. PEI will be defined by reduced fecal elastase levels. Main outcome: adherence to planned chemotherapy in the first 12 weeks following the diagnosis, according to patients' baseline nutritional status and quantified and reported as “percent of standard chemotherapy dose delivered.” Secondary outcomes: rate of chemotherapy-related toxicity, progression-free survival, survival at 6 months, overall survival, quality of life, and the number of hospitalizations. Analysis: chemotherapy dosing over the first 12 weeks of therapy (i.e., percent of chemotherapy received in the first 12 weeks, as defined above) will be compared between well-nourished and malnourished patients. Sample size: based on an expected percentage of chemotherapy delivered of 70% in well-nourished patients, with a type I error of 0.05 and a type II error of 0.20, a sample size of 93 patients per group will be required in case of a percentage difference of chemotherapy delivered of 20% between well-nourished and malnourished patients, 163 patients per group in case of a difference of 15% between the groups, and 356 patients per group in case of a 10% difference. Centers from Russia, Romania, Turkey, Spain, Serbia, and Italy will participate in the study upon Local Ethics Committee approval.Discussion: PAC-MAIN will provide insights into the role of malnutrition and PEI in the outcomes of PDAC. The study protocol was registered at clinicaltrials.gov as NCT04112836.

Sport performance is influenced by several factors, including genetic susceptibility. In the past years, specific single nucleotide polymorphisms have been associated to sport performance; however, these effects should be considered in multivariable prediction systems since they are related to a polygenic inheritance. The aim of this study was to design a genetic endurance prediction score (GES) of endurance performance and analyze its association with anthropometric, nutritional and sport efficiency variables in a cross-sectional study within fifteen male cyclists. A statistically significant positive relationship between GES and the VO2 maximum (P = 0.033), VO2 VT1 (P = 0.049) and VO2 VT2 (P < 0.001) was observed. Moreover, additional remarkable associations between genotype and the anthropometric, nutritional and sport performance variables, were achieved. In addition, an interesting link between the habit of consuming caffeinated beverages and the GES was observed. The outcomes of the present study indicate a potential use of this genetic prediction algorithm in the sports’ field, which may facilitate the finding of genetically talented athletes, improve their training and food habits, as well as help in the improvement of physical conditions of amateurs.

El área de psicología de la Federación Madrileña de Deportes de Invierno organizó 5 jornadas de tecnificación: esquí alpino, mushing, 2 de patinaje sobre hielo y 1 de hockey hielo. En un total de 15 sesiones entre 1-2 horas de duración se llevó a cabo una planificación coordinada con los entrenadores y vocales de cada deporte, con el fin de favorecer un trabajo integrado que tuviera aplicabilidad en sus entrenamientos durante las jornadas. Se pudo ver que esta forma de trabajo conjunto favorece la comunicación del equipo técnico interdisciplinar que tendrá como consecuencia una formación más completa del deportista. Además, el entrenamiento en habilidades psicológicas (como la orientación motivacional y la gestión de pensamientos) forma un conjunto coherente dentro del entrenamiento y junto al contexto de reflexión, autoconocimiento y debate establecido durante las sesiones, permitió ampliar las formas de enfrentarse a su deporte, tanto en entrenamientos como en competiciones.

INTRODUCCIÓN: El estudio que se presenta analiza los usos y registros digitales de los estudiantes en un curso presencial, que a modo de huella dejan en los espacios virtuales complementarios, así como las calificaciones que obtienen en las fases de evaluación continua y final. El objetivo es encontrar si existe relación positiva entre el mayor uso y participación de los estudiantes en las plataformas digitales y las calificaciones obtenidas. MÉTODO: Se adopta un diseño cuantitativo de tipo descriptivo y no experimental. La población analizada se corresponde con el curso de Análisis Microeconómico Avanzado, del grado en Economía (GECO), en la Universidad Complutense de Madrid. RESULTADOS: Los resultados muestran un uso digital tradicional y polarizado de los estudiantes, que definen tipologías y patrones diferenciados de aprendizaje, muy condicionado a la programación de la evaluación continua, y correlacionado positivamente con las calificaciones obtenidas. DISCUSIÓN: La relación entre usos digitales y resultados del aprendizaje es un tema aún poco explorado en la literatura, que contribuye a la reflexión del docente y puede reorientar el proceso de enseñanza, para evitar que los estudiantes que se van quedando rezagados en el uso digital acompasen el ritmo al avance del curso y tengan mejores resultados académicos.

El presente artículo tiene la intención de reflexionar sobre el alcance de la ética del cuidado y su desarrollo en el colectivo colectivo para desarrollar este proceso exploratorio que vive, cultivando relaciones que construyan una nueva biografía como una historia de compromisos decididos a vivir, a decidir, viviendo juntos en la comunidad, en los contextos históricos y culturales, la profundidad del ejercicio de democratización democrática, con su desarrollo humano dialógico, auténtico, integral y sostenible, conscientes del descuido que ha ayudado. No somos los únicos que generamos la lógica mercantilista instalada y fomentada por las tendencias neoliberales actuales, que están lejos de dar una respuesta a toda la salud y la educación.Dentro de este marco, planeamos profundizar el cuidado del ejercicio pedagógico ético-reflexivo para la mejora de la convivencia dentro del marco de sociedades complejas. It tries to develop that exploratory process, which is living, cultivating relationships that build our biography as a history of commitments decided by making that living, knowing how to live together. To know how to do in the community, historical and cultural contexts the deepening of an exercise of democratization of knowledge and make, with its dialogic, an authentic integral and sustainable human glocal development, aware of the oversights that threaten it. These are none other than those that generate the mercantilist logics installed and encouraged in the current neo-liberal tendencies, which are far from responding to the right for all citizens to health and education. There is no doubt that an individualized, westernized conception, centered on pure self-determination, hurts another kind of more communitarian cultural susceptibilities, being an inappropriate framework to incorporate ethics, care in the broad umbrella of human rights and the democratizing commitments of Your citizenship In this framework we propose to deepen the care of the ethical-reflexive pedagogical exercise for the improvement of coexistence within the framework of complex societies.Keywords: Ethics of care, Educative task, Reflexivity, Democratization

A finales de septiembre de 2016 el Partido Socialista Obrero Español (PSOE) atravesó una de las mayores crisis internas desde su fundación. La pérdida de representación parlamentaria como consecuencia de la emergencia de nuevos partidos, la investidura fallida del líder socialista, la nueva convocatoria electoral que incrementa esta pérdida de representación o la posición respecto a la gobernabilidad del país en la XII legislatura son el contexto en el que se fraguó esta división. El análisis de los contenidos implícitos en los titulares de prensa nos permite observar las diferentes estrategias de persuasión ideológica empleadas en la transmisión del discurso político. El estudio de los marcos de referencia utilizados por los diferentes representantes del partido desvela, además, la evolución de la crisis del PSOE y los problemas de liderazgo que se ocultan tras el lenguaje empleado por sus protagonistas.

Label noise is a harmful issue that arises when data are erroneously labeled. Several label noise issues can occur but, among them, unit of measure inconsistencies (UMIs) are inexplicably neglected in the literature. Despite its relevance, a general and automated approach for UMI detection suitable to gas turbines (GTs) has not been developed yet; as a result, GT diagnosis, prognosis, and control may be challenged since collected data may not reflect the actual operation. To fill this gap, this paper investigates the capability of three supervised machine learning classifiers, i.e., Support Vector Machine, Naïve Bayes, and K-Nearest Neighbors, that are tested by means of challenging analyses to infer general guidelines for UMI detection. Classification accuracy and posterior probability of each classifier is evaluated by means of an experimental dataset derived from a large fleet of Siemens gas turbines in operation. Results reveal that Naïve Bayes is the optimal classifier for UMI detection, since 88.5% of data are correctly labeled with 84% of posterior probability when experimental UMIs affect the dataset. In addition, Naïve Bayes proved to be the most robust classifier also if the rate of UMIs increases.

Introducción: el cáncer de mama es el más frecuente en las mujeres, se supone que el 4 % de las mujeres padecerá este tumor antes de los 74 años y el 1,3 % morirá a causa de él. Objetivo: caracterizar el cáncer de mama en pacientes de la provincia Guantánamo en el período 2015-2016. Método: se realizó un estudio descriptivo, de corte transversal. El universo de la investigación se conformó por 1 590 pacientes que tenían diagnóstico de cáncer de mama en la provincia de los cuales se seleccionó una muestra aleatoria al azar de 35 pacientes en el año 2015 y 46 pacientes en el año 2016. Resultados: la mayoría de los autores coinciden en que el grupo de edades más afectadas con esta enfermedad es el mayor de 40 años. Dentro de los factores de riesgo predominantes en la génesis del cáncer de mama estuvieron, sobrepeso u obesidad y menos de 4 meses de lactancia materna o no ofrecimiento de esta. Conclusiones: la edad que prevaleció fue el grupo comprendido entre 55-59. Los factores de riesgo de más importancia fueron la obesidad y el sedentarismo, predominando las mujeres obesas y sobrepeso. Se demostró que el mayor por ciento de mujeres no practicaba el auto examen de mama por lo que los conocimientos de la población femenina sobre la importancia de la realización del mismo son ínfimos.

ABSTRACT Introduction: the incidence of cystic pancreatic lesions (CPL) in the asymptomatic population is increasing. Achieving a preoperative diagnosis of CPL still remains a challenge. Objectives: to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of the cytological diagnosis of CPL from samples obtained by cytology brush versus standard endoscopic ultrasound fine needle aspiration (EUS-FNA). Methods: a multicenter, randomized, open-label trial was performed of EUS-cytology brush (EUS-EB) versus EUS-FNA for the cytological diagnosis of CPL. Patients that underwent EUS-FNA with a CPL > 15 mm were included and randomized into two groups: group I, EUS-EB; group II, EUS-FNA. The final diagnosis was based on the histological evaluation of surgical specimens and clinical parameters, imaging and a five year follow-up in non-operated patients. The main outcome was the diagnostic accuracy of both methods. Secondary outcomes were the diagnostic adequacy of specimens and the rate of adverse events. Data were compared using the Chi-squared test. An intention to treat (ITT) and per-protocol (PP) analysis were performed. Results: sixty-five patients were included in the study, 31 in group I and 34 in group II. Three patients initially randomized to group I were changed to group II as it was impossible to obtain a sample using the brush. The mean size of the CPL was 28.2 mm (range 16-60 mm). The diagnostic accuracy of EUS-EB was not superior to EUS-FNA, neither in the ITT nor the PP analysis (44.8% vs 41.1%, p = 0.77 and 38.4% vs 45.9%, p = 0.55). Conclusions: EUS-EB does not improve the diagnostic accuracy of CPL in comparison with EUS-FNA.

Depression is one of the most prevalent pathologies in older adults. Its diagnosis and treatment are complex due to different factors that intervene in its development and progression, including intercurrent organic diseases, perceptual deficits, use of drugs, and psycho-social conditions associated with the aging process. We present the case of a 75-year-old woman (who lives in the community) with a diagnosis of major depression with more than 10 years of history, analyzing her evolution and therapeutic approach.

In this study, a method for determining the effects of fluids on the dynamic characteristics of an aerospace structure and the response of the structure when it is excited by the acoustical loads produced during a rocket launch, has been developed. Elevated acoustical loads are critical in the design of large lightweight structures, such as solar arrays and communication reflectors, because of the high acceleration levels. The acoustic field generated during rocket launch can be considered as a diffuse field composed of many uncorrelated incident plane waves traveling in different directions, which impinge on the structure. A boundary element method was used to calculate the pressure jump produced by an incoming plane wave on an unbaffled plate and the fluid–structure coupled loads generated through plate vibration. This method is based on Kirchhoff’s integral formulation of the Helmholtz equation for pressure fields. The generalized force matrix attributed to the fluid loads was then formulated, taking the modes of the plate in vacuum as base functions of the structural displacement. These modes are obtained using a finite-element model. An iteration procedure was developed to calculate the natural frequencies of the fully coupled fluid–plate system. Comparison of the results obtained using the proposed method with those of other theories and experimental data demonstrated its efficiency and accuracy. The proposed method is suitable for analyzing plates of arbitrary shape subjected to any boundary conditions in a diffuse field for low to medium values of the frequency excitation range.

La ciudad contemporánea está informada por una habitabilidad dividida entre los modos impuestos por los dispositivos de la “democracia biopolítica” y las elaboraciones compartidas de las “comunidades terribles”; ello produce un cizallamiento en su configuración, con el que se espacializan comportamientos que tratan de articular ese vacío insoportable presente en nuestras vidas. En cuatro movimientos, se quiere dar cuenta de “lugares comunes, armas, temporalidades, dinamizaciones” que tratan de que un mundo advenga. Estamos en presencia de un tránsito repetido a lo largo de la construcción de la urbanidad moderna que ahora ha alcanzado –de manera definitiva– en la realización completa de su modelo originario transformarse en un gran “interior”. Tal como celebra ese momento de gozo y asombro el título del artículo, ahora los “nómadas prisioneros” estarían comprometidos en la construcción de su narrativa y argumentos. A mesenchymal transition occurs both during the natural evolution of glioblastoma (GBM) and in response to therapy. Here, we report that the adhesion G-protein-coupled receptor, GPR56/ADGRG1, inhibits GBM mesenchymal differentiation and radioresistance. GPR56 is enriched in proneural and classical GBMs and is lost during their transition toward a mesenchymal subtype. GPR56 loss of function promotes mesenchymal differentiation and radioresistance of glioma initiating cells both in vitro and in vivo. Accordingly, a low GPR56-associated signature is prognostic of a poor outcome in GBM patients even within non-G-CIMP GBMs. Mechanistically, we reveal GPR56 as an inhibitor of the nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) signaling pathway, thereby providing the rationale by which this receptor prevents mesenchymal differentiation and radioresistance. A pan-cancer analysis suggests that GPR56 might be an inhibitor of the mesenchymal transition across multiple tumor types beyond GBM.

Se realizó un estudio descriptivo, de corte transversal con el objetivo de caracterizar el cáncer de mama en pacientes de la provincia Guantánamo en el período 2015-2016. El universo de la investigación se conformó por 1590 pacientes que tenían diagnóstico de cáncer de mama en la provincia de los cuales se seleccionó una muestra aleatoria al azar de 35 pacientes en el año 2015 y 46 pacientes en el año 2016. Los principales resultados fueron: prevaleció grupo etario comprendido entre 45 y 59 años, los factores de riesgo identificados fueron la obesidad, el sedentarismo el hábito de fumar y la no lactancia materna. Se demostró que el mayor por ciento de mujeres no practicaba el autoexamen de mama por lo que los conocimientos de la población femenina sobre la importancia de la realización del mismo son ínfimos.

Abstract Transporters involved in bile acid (BA) handling by the mammary gland are poorly understood. Here we have investigated the role of ABC proteins in blood-milk BA traffic and its sensitivity to maternal cholestasis. BA concentrations in rat and mouse serum were higher than in milk. BA profiles in both fluids were also different. In mammary gland, mRNA levels of ABC pumps transporting BAs were high for Bcrp, less abundant for Mrp1, Mrp3 and Mrp4 and negligible for Bsep and Mrp2. Milk BA concentrations were lower in Abcg2 −/− than in wild-type mice. Taurocholate administration (5 µmol, i.p.) increased 20-fold BA concentrations in serum, but only moderately in milk, even in Abcg2 −/− mice. Bile duct ligation (BDL) in pregnant rats markedly increased serum BA concentrations, which was not proportionally reflected in milk. In rat mammary tissue, Mrp4 was up-regulated by BDL. Serum BA levels were 2-fold higher in 10-day-old neonates of the BDL group, whereas their body weight was lower. The exchange of breastfeeding mothers immediately after birth reverted the situation without changes in endogenous BA synthesis. In conclusion, Bcrp is involved in BA secretion into milk, whereas Mrp4 participates in a blood-milk barrier that protects neonates from maternal hypercholanemia during breastfeeding.

Abstract Severe food poisoning events after the consumption of sharks have been reported since the 1940s; however, there has been no clear understanding of their cause. Herein, we report for the first time the presence of ciguatoxins (CTXs) in sharks. The identification by mass spectrometry of CTXs, including two new analogues, in a bull shark (Carcharhinus leucas) that was consumed by humans, causing the poisoning and death of 11 people in Madagascar in 2013 is described. Typical neurotoxic ciguatera symptoms were recorded in patients, and toxicological assays on extracts of the shark demonstrated CTX-like activity. These results confirm this episode as a ciguatera poisoning event and expand the range of pelagic fish species that are involved in ciguatera in the Indian Ocean. Additionally, gambieric acid D, a molecule originally described in CTX-producing microalgae, was identified for the first time in fish. This finding can contribute to a better understanding of trophic relations within food webs. The present work confirms that consumption of sharks from the Indian Ocean should be considered a ciguatera risk, and actions should be taken to evaluate its magnitude and risk in order to manage shark fisheries.

Abstract: We retrospectively compared the clinical outcomes of adults with acute leukemia who received single-unit umbilical cord blood (UCB) transplantation (sUCBT) (n = 135) or stem cell transplant using coinfusion of a UCB graft with CD34+ cells from a third-party donor (Haplo-Cord) (n = 72) at different institutions within the Grupo Español de Trasplante Hematopoyético. In multivariable analysis, patients in the Haplo-Cord group showed more rapid neutrophil (hazard ratio [HR], 2.3; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.5-3.3; P < .001) and platelet recovery (HR, 1.6; 95% CI, 1.2-2.3; P = .015) and lower incidence of chronic graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) (relative risk, 0.5; 95% CI, 0.3-0.8; P = .01). Nonrelapse mortality, relapse, disease-free survival (DFS), and GVHD/relapse-free survival were similar in the 2 groups. Regarding disease-specific outcomes, DFS in both acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and acute lymphoblastic leukemia patients was not significantly different; however, a significantly higher relapse rate was found in patients with AML treated with Haplo-Cord (HR, 2.3; 95% CI, 1-5.4; P = .04). Our study confirms that Haplo-Cord was an effective strategy to accelerate neutrophil and platelet recovery and shows that, in the context of specific treatment platforms, sUCBT and Haplo-Cord offer similar long-term outcomes.

Este trabajo aborda el storytelling o narrativa motivacional como herramienta utilizada no solo en el ámbito cultural sino también educativo, y tanto en su versión más tradicional como en la versión digital, que aúna aspectos creativos imbricados en recursos multiformato e instrumentos tecnológicos. Dicha herramienta, que ha probado ser muy útil en la nueva gestión empresarial, tanto en activar la motivación, como en fomentar el trabajo eficiente y cohesionar los equipos, se adapta al programa formativo de estudiantes universitarios. En concreto el estudio de caso se particulariza para estudiantes de Economía (ECO) en la Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) en el curso 2014/15. La adaptación de esta técnica, storytelling, permite a los alumnos el desarrollo de competencias y destrezas profesionales, además de reconocer y consolidar valores del ejercicio profesional. Esta iniciativa, en forma de estudio de caso, se aplica en seminarios prácticos y su implementación muestra resultados significativos en la mejora del grado de adquisición de diversas competencias por los discentes en tres dimensiones: 1) competencias digitales, 2) competencias narrativas, 3) competencias creativas. Cabe destacar que más del 74% de los estudiantes muestra un alto nivel de competencias digitales y creativas, si bien en torno a la mitad 57% registran un nivel alto de competencias narrativas.

The present research aimed at studying the psychometric properties of the Mental Health Continuum–Short Form (MHC–SF; Keyes, 2005) in a sample of 1,300 Argentinean adults (50% males; 50% females). Their mean age was 40.28 years old (SD = 13.59). The MHC–SF is a 14 item test that assesses three components (i.e., emotional, social, and psychological) of well-being. Convergent and divergent evidence of construct validity was assessed by conducting confirmatory factor analysis, cross-validation, factorial invariance, and correlations with external criteria. Internal consistency was studied using Cronbach’s alphas. Results indicated an adequate fit of a three-dimensional model. This structure was also confirmed, and was invariant throughout sex and age. The emotional well-being scores converged with life satisfaction and positive affect measures; the psychological well-being scale had a positive association with the presence of meaning in life; and the social well-being scores showed a positive and strong correlation with an external measure of well-being. Also, all scores were negatively associated with negative affect, search of meaning in life, and presence of depression symptoms. Internal consistency was .89 for the MHC–SF. Furthermore, the findings supported the two - continua model of mental health.
