Ceming (...) is the genre of text used by the king of the Zhou Dynasty at the investiture ceremonies, which was usually held at the ancestry temple. Serving as the document of investiture, the text should be witnessed and announced by some influential court officials such as binzhe(...) , neishi(...), and yinshi(...). Having developed into a stable genre, the ceming text in the Zhou Dynasty mainly consisted of the following three parts: why this investiture should take place; what was conferred; and what the beneficiary was expected to do. It has been reported that rice chromosome 4 has eight major heterochromatic knobs within the heterochromatic half and that this organization correlates with chromosomal-level transcriptional activity. To better understand this chromosomal organization, we created a model based on the statistical distribution of various types of gene models to divide chromosome 4 into 17 euchromatic and heterochromatic regions that correspond with the cytological staining. Fluorescence in-situ hybridization (FISH) experiments using a set of bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) clones from chromosome 4 placed all 18 clones in the region predicted by the model. Elevated levels of H3K4 di- and tri-methylation detected by chromatin-immunoprecipitation (ChIP) on chip were correlated with euchromatic regions whereas lower levels of these two modifications were detected in heterochromatic regions. Small RNAs were more abundant in the heterochromatic regions. To validate these findings, H3K4 trimethylation, H3K9 acetylation, H4K12 acetylation, and H3K9 di- and tri-methylation of 19 individual genes were measured by ChIP–PCR. Genes in heterochromatic regions had elevated H3K9 di- and tri-methylation while genes in euchromatic regions had elevated levels of the other three modifications. We also assayed cytosine methylation of these genes using the restriction enzymes McrBC, HapII, and Msp I. This analysis indicated that cytosines of transposable elements and some genes located in heterochromatic regions were methylated while cytosines of the other genes were unmethylated. These results suggest that local transcriptional activity may reflect the organization of the corresponding part of the chromosome. Simple Summary: Many pathogens exploit the olfactory route to reach critical organs in the body such as the brain or lungs. Thus, effective onset of an early innate immune response in the nasal epithelium is key to stopping pathogen progression. The stimulation of nasal immunity by vaccines may depend on the type of vaccine and vaccination route. The goal of this study was to evaluate the ability of a live attenuated viral vaccine to stimulate innate immunity in the olfactory organ of rainbow trout, a teleost fish of commercial aquaculture value. The kinetics and magnitude of the innate immune response depended on the route of vaccination, with the strongest and fastest responses recorded in intranasally vaccinated fish. Injection vaccination had an intermediate effect, whereas immersion vaccination resulted in delayed and weak nasal innate immunity. Injection vaccination, even with the vehicle control, induced mortality in fingerlings, whereas nasal and immersion vaccines were safe. Challenge experiments with the live virus revealed that nasal and injected vaccines conferred very high and comparable levels of protection, but immersion vaccination only induced transient protection. In conclusion, the route of vaccination determines the type, magnitude and velocity of the innate immune response in the nasal epithelium of animals. Many pathogens infect animal hosts via the nasal route. Thus, understanding how vaccination stimulates early nasal immune responses is critical for animal and human health. Vaccination is the most effective method to prevent disease outbreaks in farmed fish. Nasal vaccination induces strong innate and adaptive immune responses in rainbow trout and was shown to be highly effective against infectious hematopoietic necrosis (IHN). However, direct comparisons between intranasal, injection and immersion vaccination routes have not been conducted in any fish species. Moreover, whether injection or immersion routes induce nasal innate immune responses is unknown. The goal of this study is to compare the effects of three different vaccine delivery routes, including intranasal (IN), intramuscular (i.m.) injection and immersion (imm) routes on the trout nasal innate immune response. Expression analyses of 13 immune-related genes in trout nasopharynx-associated lymphoid tissue (NALT), detected significant changes in immune expression in all genes analyzed in response to the three vaccination routes. However, nasal vaccination induced the strongest and fastest changes in innate immune gene expression compared to the other two routes. Challenge experiments 7 days post-vaccination (dpv) show the highest survival rates in the IN- and imm-vaccinated groups. However, survival rates in the imm group were significantly lower than the IN- and i.m.-vaccinated groups 28 dpv. Our results confirm that nasal vaccination of rainbow trout with live attenuated IHNV is highly effective and that the protection conferred by immersion vaccination is transient. In this paper, we show that current two different quantum channels of two three-qubit GHZ states and the six-qubit entangled state can be used for quantum teleportation of an arbitrary two-qubit state deterministically. Moreover, we propose two distinct protocols for quantum teleportation of an arbitrary two-qubit state within a three-qubit, by using a single-qubit measurement under the basis and also using a two-qubit projective measurement under the basis { | + ⟩ , | - ⟩ } , so as to get 16 kinds of possible measured results with equal probability of 1/4. Furthermore, the deterministic quantum teleportation of an arbitrary two-qubit states can be realized in a cavity quantum electrodynamics systems. This is unique, in that a cluster state has a maximal persistence when compared with a entangled state and it is also more robust against decoherence. Aim: We aimed to investigate the long‐term influence of a diet and/or exercise intervention on long‐term mortality and cardiovascular disease (CVD) events. Methods: The Da Qing Diabetes Prevention Study had 576 participants with impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) randomized to diet‐only, exercise‐only and diet‐plus‐exercise intervention group and control group. The participants underwent lifestyle interventions for 6 years. The subsequent Da Qing Diabetes Prevention Outcome Study was a prospective cohort study to follow‐up the participants for up to 24 years after the end of 6‐year intervention. In total, 540 participants completed the follow‐up, while 36 subjects lost in follow‐up. Cox proportional hazards analysis was applied to assess the influence of lifestyle interventions on targeted outcomes. Results: Compared with controls, the diet‐only intervention in people with IGT was significantly associated with a reduced risk of all‐cause death [hazard ratio (HR) 0.77, 95% confidence interval (CI) (0.61‐0.97)], CVD death [HR 0.67, 95% CI (0.46‐0.97)] and CVD events [HR 0.72, 95% CI (0.54‐0.96)]. The diet‐plus‐exercise intervention was significantly associated with a decreased risk of all‐cause death [HR 0.64, 95% CI (0.48‐0.84)], CVD death [HR 0.54, 95% CI (0.30‐0.97)] and CVD events [HR 0.68, 95% CI (0.52‐0.90)]. Unexpectedly, the exercise‐only intervention was not significantly associated with the reduction of any of these outcomes, although there was a consistent trend towards reduction. Conclusions: A diet‐only intervention and a diet‐plus‐exercise intervention in people with IGT were significantly associated with a reduced risk of all‐cause death, CVD death and CVD events, while an exercise‐only intervention was not. Background. Rising hypertension prevalence, coupled with increasing overweight and obesity rates, has been observed in Yi people. Moreover, the growing blood pressure level among Yi people was mostly attributable to the continuous increase of body mass index (BMI). However, little is known about the trend of association between them. Methods. Consequently, we investigated the impact of overweight/obesity on hypertension over three periods (1996, 2007-2008, 2015) using data from Yi Migrant Study (n = 8749). The Yi Migrant Study incorporated three successive cross-sectional studies which were implemented by the same team with consistent protocols. Results. Compared with period 1 (1996), the influence of overweight/obesity on hypertension risk significantly increased in period 2 (2007-2008) and period 3 (2015); relative excess risk due to interaction (RERI) was 1.59 (95% CI: 0.12, 3.05) and 1.41 (95% CI: 0.30, 2.78), respectively. Meanwhile, the overweight/obese population in period 3 did not show hypertension risk higher than that in period 2 (RERI = 0.15; 95% CI: −0.76, 1.07). Additionally, we observed a continuously growing trend of hypertension risk among normal weight Yi people. Conclusions. During the past two decades, there was a significant increase in the association between overweight/obesity and hypertension in Yi people, whereas the increasing trend has leveled off in more recent years. These findings suggest that overweight/obesity and hypertension are becoming more epidemic comorbidity over time. Amentoflavone (AF) is a natural multifunctional biflavonoid that has been revealed to possess multiple biological activities, including anticancer activity. Here, this work focused on exploring the functions and mechanism of AF in gastric cancer (GC). Levels of genes and proteins were examined by quantitative real‐time PCR and western blotting. Cell proliferation and cell death were analyzed using cell counting kit‐8, colony formation, and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) release assay, respectively. Cell ferroptosis was evaluated by detecting the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), reduced glutathione (GSH), Fe2+, and intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS). The binding between miR‐496 and activating transcription factor 2 (ATF2) was confirmed by using dual‐luciferase reporter assay. Murine xenograft assay was conducted for in vivo experiments. The results showed that AF suppressed the proliferation and induced ferroptotic cell death in GC cells. MiR‐496 expression was decreased in GC tissues and cells, and AF treatment increased miR‐496 expression level in GC cells. Functionally, miR‐496 inhibition reversed the inhibitory effects of AF on GC cell proliferation and promoting effects on ferroptotic cell death. Mechanistically, ATF2 was targeted by miR‐496. ATF2 expression was increased in GC tissues and cells, which was decreased by AF treatment and subsequently rescued by miR‐496 downregulation in GC cells. Moreover, miR‐496 overexpression suppressed the proliferation and induced ferroptotic cell death in GC cells via targeting ATF2. In all, AF suppressed the proliferation and induced ferroptotic cell death in GC cells via miR‐496/ATF2 axis, indicating a novel therapeutic approach for GC patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: To explore the feasibility and effectiveness of multifaceted quality improvement intervention based on the clinical decision support system (CDSS) in VTE prophylaxis in hospitalized patients. Methods: A randomized, department-based clinical trial was conducted in the department of respiratory and critical care medicine, orthopedic, and general surgery wards. Patients aged ≥18 years, without VTE in admission, were allocated to the intervention group and received regular care combined with multifaceted quality improvement intervention based on CDSS during hospitalization. VTE prophylaxis rate and the occurrence of hospital-associated VTE events were analyzed as primary and secondary outcomes. Results: A total of 3644 eligible residents were enrolled in this trial. With the implementation of the multifaceted quality improvement intervention based on the CDSS, the VTE prophylaxis rate of the intervention group increased from 22.93% to 34.56% (p < 0.001), and the incidence of HA-VTE events increased from 0.49% to 1.00% (p = 0.366). In the nonintervention group, the VTE prophylaxis rate increased from 24.49% to 27.90% (p = 0.091), and the incidence of HA-VTE events increased from 0.47% to 2.02% (p = 0.001). Conclusions: Multifaceted quality improvement intervention based on the CDSS strategy is feasible and expected to facilitate implementation of the recommended VTE prophylaxis strategies and reduce the incidence of HA-VTE in hospital. Background: Diabetes is a common comorbidity among patients with exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD). Diabetes has been reported to be associated with length of stay (LOS), death, and cost among AECOPD patients. However, most studies are retrospective or have small sample sizes. The association for cost has not been researched using diabetes as a main analytic factor. This study aimed to fill gaps mentioned above, to compare basic characteristics between the diabetic and non-diabetic group, and to detect associations between diabetes and clinical outcomes among patients hospitalized with AECOPD.Methods: A total of 5334 AECOPD patients, classified into diabetic and non-diabetic group, were included from a prospective multicenter patient registry study. Generalized linear regression and logistic regression were separately used for the association between diabetes and direct hospitalization cost and the association between diabetes and LOS.Results: Generally, diabetic patients had a more severe profile, including being older, more overweight or obese, having more former smokers, more emergency room visits in the past 12 months, and more comorbidities occurrence. Diabetic patients also had worse clinical outcomes, including higher cost and longer LOS. Additionally, the generalized linear regression indicated that the marginal mean cost difference between diabetic and non-diabetic patients was RMB (¥) 775.7.Conclusions: AECOPD patients with comorbid diabetes had a more severe profile and higher direct hospitalization cost. Diabetes screening and integrated care programs might help reduce the heavy comorbidity and economic burden. Background: VTE has emerged as a major public health problem. However, data on VTE burden in China are seldom reported.Methods: This study collected data on patients with a principal diagnosis of VTE, pulmonary embolism (PE), or DVT by using the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, from 90 hospitals across China. The trends in hospitalization rates, mortality, length of stay (LOS), and comorbidities from 2007 to 2016 were analyzed.Results: In total, 105,723 patients with VTE were identified. For patients with VTE, the age- and sex-adjusted hospitalization rate increased from 3.2 to 17.5 per 100,000 population, and in-hospital mortality decreased from 4.7% to 2.1% (P < .001). The mean LOS declined from 14 to 11 days (P < .001). In addition, the data in 2016 showed that the hospitalization rate of VTE was higher in elderly male patients (male patients vs female patients, 155.3 vs 125.4 per 100,000 population in patients aged ≥ 85 years; P < .001) and in northern China (north vs south, 18.4 vs 13.4 per 100,000 population; P < .001). Higher mortality rates were found in patients with cancer and Charlson Comorbidity Index scores > 2. Similar trends were also observed in patients with PE and those with DVT. The hospitalization rate in China was much lower than that of the United States or selected sites in Canada and Europe, the LOS was much longer, and the in-hospital mortality rates were similar.Conclusions: The hospitalization rates of VTE increased steadily, and the mortality declined. Respiratory structures are crucial for vertebrate survival, as they serve not only to perform gas-exchange processes but also as entry points for opportunistic pathogens. Previous studies have demonstrated that fish contain gill mucosal-associated lymphoid tissue, and harbor a large number of commensal bacteria on their surface and contribute to maintaining fish health. However, by far, very limited information is known regarding the effects of viral infection on gill mucosal immunity and microbiota homeostasis. In this study, we conducted an infection model by bath with infectious hematopoietic necrosis virus (IHNV) and revealed a 27 % mortality rate among rainbow trout in the first two weeks after infection. Moreover, we found that diseased fish with the highest IHNV loads in gills exhibiting severe damage, as well as increased goblet cell counts in both primary lamellae (PL) and secondary lamellae (SL). Additionally, RT-qPCR and RNA-seq analyses revealed that IHNV infection induced a strong innate and adaptive antiviral immune responses. Interestingly, an antibacterial immune response was also observed, suggesting that a secondary bacterial infection occurred in trout gills after viral infection. Furthermore, 16S rRNA analysis of trout gills revealed a profound dysbiosis marked by a loss of beneficial taxa and expansion of pathobionts following IHNV infection. Overall, our finding demonstrates that IHNV infection induces significant changes of the microbial community in the fish respiratory surface, thus triggering local antiviral and bacterial mucosal immunity. • IHNV cause severe pathological changes in trout gills by bath infection. • IHNV triggers strong mucosal immunity responses in trout gills. • Microbial community structure changes in trout gills after being infected with IHNV. The complement component 3 (C3) is a central component of complement system. All three pathways converge at formation of C3 convertases and share the terminal pathways of membrane attack complex (MAC) formation. In this study, three isoforms of C3 were discovered in Misgurnus anguillicaudatus , named “C3-1”, “C3-2” and “C3-3”, respectively. The full-length of C3-1 cDNA sequence was firstly identified and analyzed from dojo loach ( Misgurnus anguillicaudatus ). The Ma -C3-1 cDNA sequence comprised of 4509 bp encoding 1454 amino acids with a putative signal peptide of 20 amino acid residues. The deduced amino acid sequence showed that Ma -C3-1 has conserved residues and domain, which are known to be crucial for C3 function. Interestingly, an amino acid substitution of the highly conserved GCGEQ was discovered in Ma -C3-1. Phylogenetic analysis showed that Ma -C3-1 was closely related to Cyprinidae. The mRNA expression levels of three isoforms of C3 were detected in kidney, eye, spleen, gonad, heart, fin ray, gut, muscle, brain, gill, skin, blood and liver. The expression of Ma -C3-1 and Ma -C3-3 were mainly detected in liver, followed by spleen, gonad. However, the high expression of Ma -C3-2 was found in kidney, followed by blood and gonad. The morphological changes of gill and skin, and the expression pattern of these three isoforms C3 molecular following the infection with Aeromonas hydrophila were investigated. The mRNA expression levels of three C3 isoforms were up-regulated in the gill, skin, liver and spleen after infection with A.hydrophila . Similarly, challenge experiments resulted in significant up-regulated expression of other complement-relevant genes in gill, liver and skin, such as C4, C5, C8b, especially at 24 h and 36 h. Background and Objectives: Bimodality in fasting plasma glucose (FPG) distribution has been detected in several populations. However, information regarding this phenomenon among Chinese ethnic groups is minimal. This study aimed to describe and update the distribution of FPG in the Uyghur and Han populations of Xinjiang, China, as well as to estimate the cut points of FPG on the basis of bimodal distribution.Methods and Study Design: A cross-sectional study was performed among the Uyghur and Han populations of Xinjiang, China in 2013. Questionnaire survey and FPG tests were conducted among 5,923 participants aged 20-80 years. We fitted the unimodal and bimodal distributions into the FPG data by ethnicity, age, gender, and location to test whether the FPG values were consistent with a bimodal distribution.Results: The FPG distribution could be described as bimodal, except for the age group of 50 years old and below among the Uyghur and Han populations and the age group of 70-80 years old among the Uyghur population (p<0.01). However, most of the cut points estimated using this method did not fall between the corresponding means of the first and second modes.Conclusions: Although a bimodal distribution of FPG was observed in the Uyghur and Han populations of Xinjiang, China, the cut points estimated using this method were not biologically meaningful, and thus, a bimodal distribution of FPG was not useful for defining cut points to diagnose diabetes in Xinjiang. Arginine plays a key role in regulating the immune function of fish. To evaluate the effect of arginine on the immune response of largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides), the effects of arginine on cell viability, NADPH oxidase activity, respiratory burst activity, and NO production of leukocytes were analyzed both in vitro and in vivo. In this study, we found that arginine could promote the respiratory burst activity of leucocytes both in vivo and in vitro. By incubating leukocytes with the combination of LPS and arginine, we found that arginine supplementation inhibited the expression of inflammatory genes (tumor necrosis factor-alpha, tnfα; interleukin(il) 8 and il10) and apoptotic genes (caspase 3, caspase 8, and caspase 9) induced by LPS, as well as promoted the arginine metabolism. Arginine supplementation significantly induced (cd4-like) cd4 gene expression after LPS challenge. Further studies showed that LPS could significantly increase nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain containing 1 (nod1) gene expression, but decreased the nod2 gene. The arginine supplementation increased nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB) protein level. Objective: Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) and microRNAs (miRNAs) are widely expressed in the brain and are associated with the development of neurological and neurodegenerative diseases. However, their roles and molecular mechanisms in major depressive disorder (MDD) remain largely unknown. This study aimed to identify lncRNAs and miRNAs involved in the development of MDD and elucidate their molecular mechanisms., Methods: Transcriptome and bioinformatic analyses were performed to identify miRNAs and lncRNAs related to MDD. C57 mice were subjected to chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) to establish a depression model. Lentiviruses containing either lncRNA NPTN-IT1-201 or miR-142-5p were microinjected into the hippocampal region of these mice. Behavioral tests including the sucrose preference test (SPT), tail suspension test (TST), and forced swim test (FST) were conducted to evaluate depressive-like behaviors., Results: The results revealed that overexpression of lncRNA NPTN-IT1-201 or inhibition of miR-142-5p significantly ameliorated depressive-like behaviors in CUMS-treated mice. Dual-luciferase reporter assays confirmed interactions between miR-142-5p with both brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and NPTN-IT1-201. ELISA analysis revealed significant alterations in relevant biomarkers in the blood samples of MDD patients compared to healthy controls. Histological analyses, including HE and Nissl staining, showed marked structural changes in brain tissues following CUMS treatment, which were partially reversed by lncRNA NPTN-IT1-201 overexpression or miR-142-5p inhibition. Immunofluorescence imaging demonstrated significant differences in the levels of BAX, Bcl2, p65, Iba1 among different treatment groups. TUNEL assays confirmed reduced apoptosis in brain tissues following these interventions. Objective: Given the established impact of exercise in reducing arterial stiffness and the potential for intermittent hypoxia to induce its elevation, this study aims to understand how oxygen desaturation during exercise affects arterial stiffness in individuals with COPD., Methods: We enrolled patients with stable COPD from China-Japan Friendship Hospital from November 2022 to June 2023. The 6-minute walk test (6-MWT) was performed with continuous blood oxygen saturation (SpO 2 ) monitoring in these patients. The patients were classified into three groups: non-exercise induced desaturation (EID), mild-EID and severe-EID, according to the changes in SpO 2 during the 6-MWT. The Cardio-Ankle Vascular Index (CAVI) and the change in CAVI (ΔCAVI, calculated as CAVI before 6MWT minus CAVI after the 6MWT) were measured before and immediately after the 6MWT to assess the acute effects of exercise on arterial stiffness. GOLD Stage, pulmonary function, and other functional outcomes were also measured in this study., Results: A total of 37 patients with stable COPD underwent evaluation for changes in CAVI (ΔCAVI) before and after the 6-MWT. Stratification based on revealed three subgroups: non-EID (n=12), mild-EID (n=15), and severe-EID (n=10). The ΔCAVI values was -0.53 (-0.95 to -0.31) in non-EID group, -0.20 (-1.45 to 0.50) in mild-EID group, 0.6 (0.08 to 0.73) in severe-EID group. Parametric tests indicated significant differences in ΔCAVI among EID groups (p = 0.005). Pairwise comparisons demonstrated significant distinctions between mild-EID and severe-EID groups, as well as between non-EID and severe-EID groups (p = 0.048 and p = 0.003, respectively).
