201. The switching effect of the side chain on quantum walks on triple graphs

Abstract

We consider a continuous-time quantum walk on a triple graph and investigate the influence of the side chain on the propagation in the main chain. Calculating the interchange of the probabilities between the two parts of the main chain, we find that a switching effect appears if there are odd number of points on the side chain when concrete conditions between the length of the main chain and the position of the side chain are satisfied. Whereas, such an effect does not occur if there are even number of points on the side chain. We also suggest two proposals for experiment to observe such an effect, which may be employed to design new type of switching device.

Abstract

Bacterial hormones, such as the iconic gamma-butyrolactone A-factor, are essential signaling molecules that regulate diverse physiological processes, including specialized metabolism. These low molecular weight compounds are common in Streptomyces species and display species-specific structural differences. Recently, unusual gamma-butyrolactone natural products called salinipostins were isolated from the marine actinomycete genus Salinispora based on their antimalarial properties. As the salinipostins possess a rare phosphotriester motif of unknown biosynthetic origin, we set out to explore its construction by the widely conserved 9-gene spt operon in Salinispora species. We show through a series of in vivo and in vitro studies that the spt gene cluster dually encodes the salinipostins and newly identified natural A-factor-like gamma-butyrolactones (Sal-GBLs). Remarkably, homologous biosynthetic gene clusters are widely distributed among many actinomycete genera, including Streptomyces, suggesting the significance of this operon in bacteria.

Abstract

Using deep convolutional neural network (CNN), the nature of the QCD transition can be identified from the final-state pion spectra from hybrid model simulations of heavy-ion collisions that combines a viscous hydrodynamic model with a hadronic cascade “after-burner”. Two different types of equations of state (EoS) of the medium are used in the hydrodynamic evolution. The resulting spectra in transverse momentum and azimuthal angle are used as the input data to train the neural network to distinguish different EoS. Different scenarios for the input data are studied and compared in a systematic way. A clear hierarchy is observed in the prediction accuracy when using the event-by-event, cascade-coarse-grained and event-fine-averaged spectra as input for the network, which are about 80%, 90% and 99%, respectively. A comparison with the prediction performance by deep neural network (DNN) with only the normalized pion transverse momentum spectra is also made. High-level features of pion spectra captured by a carefully-trained neural network were found to be able to distinguish the nature of the QCD transition even in a simulation scenario which is close to the experiments.

Abstract

Although the Cherenkov light contains mostly short-wavelength components, it is beneficial in the aspect of imaging to visualize it in the second near-infrared (NIR-II) window. In this study, Cherenkov imaging was performed within the NIR-II range on megavolt X-ray beams delivered by a medical linear accelerator. A shielding system was used to reduce the noises of the NIR-II image, enabling high quality signal acquisition. It was demonstrated that the NIR-II Cherenkov imaging is potentially a tool for radiotherapy dosimetry, and correlates well with different parameters. The NIR-II Cherenkov imaging is less susceptible to scattering, while more susceptible to absorption, compared with the visible-near-infrared imaging. Finally, a mouse was used to demonstrate this technology on animals. These results indicate the potentials to apply NIR-II Cherenkov imaging in the practice of radiotherapy.
