We derive a state dependent error-disturbance trade-off based on a statistical distance in the sequential measurements of a pair of noncommutative observables and experimentally verify the relation with a photonic qubit system. We anticipate that this Letter may further stimulate the study on the quantum uncertainty principle and related applications in quantum measurements.

We investigate the measurement uncertainties of a triple of positive operator-valued measures (POVMs) based on statistical distance, and formulate state-independent tight uncertainty inequalities satisfied by the three measurements in terms of triple-wise joint measurability. Particularly, uncertainty inequalities for three unbiased qubit measurements are presented with analytical lower bounds which relates to the necessary and sufficient condition of the triple-wise joint measurability of the given triple. We show that the measurement uncertainties for a triple measurement are essentially different from the ones obtained by pair wise measurement uncertainties by comparing the lower bounds of different measurement uncertainties., Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures

We investigate the norms of the Bloch vectors for any quantum state with subsystems less than or equal to four. Tight upper bounds of the norms are obtained, which can be used to derive tight upper bounds for entanglement measure defined by the norms of Bloch vectors. By using these bounds a trade-off relation of the norms of Bloch vectors is discussed. Theses upper bounds are then applied on separability. Necessary conditions are presented for different kinds of separable states in four-partite quantum systems. We investigate polygamy relations of multipartite entanglement in arbitrary-dimensional quantum systems. By improving an inequality and using the $\beta$th ($0\leq\beta\leq1$) power of entanglement of assistance, we provide a new class of weighted polygamy inequalities of multipartite entanglement in arbitrary-dimensional quantum systems. We show that these new polygamy relations are tighter than the ones given in [Phys. Rev. A 97, 042332 (2018)].

In this work, we study the local distinguishability of maximally entangled states (MESs). In particular, we are concerned with whether any fixed number of MESs can be locally distinguishable for sufficiently large dimensions. Fan and Tian \emph{et al.} have already obtained two satisfactory results for the generalized Bell states (GBSs) and the qudit lattice states when applied to prime or prime power dimensions. We construct a general twist-teleportation scheme for any orthonormal basis with MESs that is inspired by the method used in [Phys. Rev. A \textbf{70}, 022304 (2004)]. Using this teleportation scheme, we obtain a sufficient and necessary condition for one-way distinguishable sets of MESs, which include the GBSs and the qudit lattice states as special cases. We investigate the polygamy relations of multipartite quantum states. General polygamy inequalities are given in the $\alpha$th $(\alpha\geq 2)$ power of concurrence of assistance, $\beta$th $(\beta \geq1)$ power of entanglement of assistance, and the squared convex-roof extended negativity of assistance (SCRENoA).

We study the curves of coherence for the Bell-diagonal states including $l_{1}$-norm of coherence and relative entropy of coherence under the Markovian channels in the first subsystem once. For a special Bell-diagonal state under bit-phase flip channel, we find frozen coherence under $l_{1}$ norm occurs, but relative entropy of coherence decrease. It illustrates that the occurrence of frozen coherence depends on the type of the measure of coherence. We study the coherence evolution of Bell-diagonal states under Markovian channels in the first subsystem $n$ times and find coherence under depolarizing channel decreases initially then increases for small $n$ and tend to zero for large $n$. We discuss the dynamics of coherence of the Bell-diagonal state under two independent same type local Markovian channels. We depict the dynamic behaviors of relative entropy of coherence for Bell-diagonal state under the bi-side different Markovian channel. In a recent paper, M. F. Sacchi [Phys. Rev. A 96, 042325 (2017)] addressed the general problem of approximating an unavailable quantum state by the convex mixing of different available states. For the case of qubit mixed states, we show that the analytical solutions in some cases are invalid. In this Comment, we present complete analytical solutions for the optimal convex approximation. Uncertainty relation is not only of fundamental importance to quantum mechanics, but also crucial to the quantum information technology. Recently, majorization formulation of uncertainty relations (MURs) have been widely studied, ranging from two measurements to multiple measurements. Here, for the first time, we experimentally investigate MURs for two measurements and multiple measurements in the high-dimensional systems, and study the intrinsic distinction between direct-product MURs and direct-sum MURs. The experimental results reveal that by taking different nonnegative Schur-concave functions as uncertainty measure, the two types of MURs have their own particular advantages, and also verify that there exists certain case where three-measurement majorization uncertainty relation is much stronger than the one obtained by summing pairwise two-measurement uncertainty relations. Our work not only fills the gap of experimental studies of majorization uncertainty relations, but also represents an advance in quantitatively understanding and experimental verification of majorization uncertainty relations which are universal and capture the essence of uncertainty in quantum theory., Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures

We investigate monogamy relations related to quantum entanglement for $n-$qubit quantum systems. General monogamy inequalities are presented to the $\beta$th $(\beta\in(0,2))$ power of concurrence, negativity and the convex-roof extended negativity, as well as the $\beta$th $(\beta\in(0,\sqrt{2}))$ power of entanglement of formation. These monogamy relations are complementary to the existing ones with different regions of parameter $\beta$. We study the distribution of quantum correlations characterized by monogamy relations in multipartite systems. By using the Hamming weight of the binary vectors associated with the subsystems, we establish a class of monogamy inequalities for multiqubit entanglement based on the $\alpha$th ($\alpha\geq 2$) power of concurrence, and a class of polygamy inequalities for multiqubit entanglement in terms of the $\beta$th ($0\leq \beta\leq2$) power of concurrence and concurrence of assistance. Moveover, we give the monogamy and polygamy inequalities for general quantum correlations. Application of these results to quantum correlations like squared convex-roof extended negativity (SCREN), entanglement of formation and Tsallis-$q$ entanglement gives rise to either tighter inequalities than the existing ones for some classes of quantum states or less restrictions on the quantum states. Quantum coherence and entanglement are two key features in quantum mechanics and play important roles in quantum information processing and quantum computation. We provide a general triangle-like inequality satisfied by the $l_1$-norm measure of coherence for convex combination of arbitrary $n$ pure states of a quantum state $\rho$. Furthermore, we present triangle-like inequality for the convex-roof extended negativity for any states of rank 2, which gives a positive answer to a conjecture raised in [Phys. Rev. A 96, 062308 (2017)]. Detailed examples are given to illustrate the relations characterized by the triangle-like inequalities.

The coherence-breaking channels play a significant role in quantum information theory. We study the coherence-breaking channels and give a method to amend the coherence-breaking channels by applying unitary operations. For given incoherent channel $\Phi$, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for the channel to be a coherence-breaking channel and amend it via unitary operations. For qubit incoherent channels $\Phi$ that are not coherence-breaking ones, we consider the mapping $\Phi\circ\Phi$ and present the conditions for coherence-breaking and channel amendment as well., Comment: 8 pages

The construction of unextendible maximally entangled bases is tightly related to quantum information processing like local state discrimination. We put forward two constructions of UMEBs in $\mathbb {C}^{pd}\otimes \mathbb {C}^{qd}$($p\leq q$) based on the constructions of UMEBs in $\mathbb {C}^{d}\otimes \mathbb {C}^{d}$ and in $\mathbb {C}^{p}\otimes \mathbb {C}^{q}$, which generalizes the results in [Phys. Rev. A. 94, 052302 (2016)] by two approaches. Two different 48-member UMEBs in $\mathbb {C}^{6}\otimes \mathbb {C}^{9}$ have been constructed in detail.

We study the distinguishability of a particular type of maximally entangled states -- the "lattice states" using a new approach of semidefinite program. With this, we successfully construct all sets of four ququad-ququad orthogonal maximally entangled states that are locally indistinguishable and find some curious sets of six states having interesting property of distinguishability. Also, some of the problems arose from \cite{CosentinoR14} about the PPT-distinguishability of "lattice" maximally entangled states can be answered., Comment: It's rewritten. We study entropic uncertainty relations by using stepwise linear functions and quadratic functions. Two kinds of improved uncertainty lower bounds are constructed: the state-independent one based on the lower bound of Shannon entropy and the tighter state-dependent one based on the majorization techniques. The analytical results for qubit and qutrit systems with two or three measurement settings are explicitly derived, with detailed examples showing that they outperform the existing bounds. By embedding a $\cal PT$-symmetric (pseudo-Hermitian) system into a large Hermitian one, we disclose the relations between $\cal{PT}$-symmetric Hamiltonians and weak measurement theory. We investigate quantum phase transitions in $XY$ spin models using Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya (DM) interactions. We identify the quantum critical points via quantum Fisher information and quantum coherence, finding that higher DM couplings suppress quantum phase transitions. Quantum coherence and non-classical correlation are key features of quantum world. Quantifying coherence and non-classical correlation are two key tasks in quantum information theory. First, we present a bona fide measure of quantum coherence by utilizing the Hellinger distance. This coherence measure is proven to fulfill all the criteria of a well defined coherence measure, including the strong monotonicity in the resource theories of quantum coherence. In terms of this coherence measure, the distribution of quantum coherence in multipartite systems is studied and a corresponding polygamy relation is proposed. Its operational meanings and the relations between the generation of quantum correlations and the coherence are also investigated. Moreover, we present Hellinger distance-based measure of non-classical correlation, which not only inherits the nice properties of the Hellinger distance including contractivity, and but also shows a powerful analytic computability for a large class of quantum states. We show that there is an explicit trade-off relation satisfied by the quantum coherence and this non-classical correlation.

We consider the optimal approximation of arbitrary qubit states with respect to an available states consisting the eigenstates of two of three Pauli matrices, the $B_2$-distance of an arbitrary target state. Both the analytical formulae of the $B_2$-distance and the corresponding complete optimal decompositions are obtained. We study the dynamics of coherence-induced state ordering under incoherent channels, particularly four specific Markovian channels: $-$ amplitude damping channel, phase damping channel, depolarizing channel and bit flit channel for single-qubit states. We investigate the quantum phase transitions for the $XXZ$ spin-1/2 chains via the quantum correlations between the nearest and next to nearest neighbor spins characterized by negativity, information deficit, trace distance discord and local quantum uncertainty. It is shown that all these correlations exhibit the quantum phase transitions at $\Delta=-1$. However, only information deficit and local quantum uncertainty can demonstrate quantum phase transitions at $\Delta=1$. The analytical and numerical behaviors of the quantum correlations for the $XXZ$ system are presented. The ultrafine entanglement witness, introduced in [F. Shahandeh, M. Ringbauer, J.C. Loredo, and T.C. Ralph, Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{118}, 110502 (2017)], can seamlessly and easily improve any standard entanglement witness. In this paper, by combining the constraint and the test operators, we rotate the hyperplane determined by the test operator and improve further the original ultrafine entanglement witness. In particular, we present a series of new ultrafine entanglement witnesses, which not only can detect entangled states that the original ultrafine entanglement witnesses cannot detect, but also have the merits that the original ultrafine entanglement witnesses have., Comment: 8 pages

The entanglement detection via local measurements can be experimentally implemented. Based on mutually unbiased measurements and general symmetric informationally complete positive-operator-valued measures, we present separability criteria for bipartite quantum states, which, by theoretical analysis, are stronger than the related existing criteria via these measurements. Quantum coherence is one of the most significant theories in quantum physics. Ordering states with various coherence measures is an intriguing task in quantification theory of coherence. In this paper, we study this problem by use of four important coherence measures -- the $l_1$ norm of coherence, the relative entropy of coherence, the geometric measure of coherence and the modified trace distance measure of coherence. We show that each pair of these measures give a different ordering of qudit states when $d\geq 3$. However, for single-qubit states, the $l_1$ norm of coherence and the geometric coherence provide the same ordering. We also show that the relative entropy of coherence and the geometric coherence give a different ordering for single-qubit states. Then we partially answer the open question proposed in [Quantum Inf. Process. 15, 4189 (2016)] whether all the coherence measures give a different ordering of states., Comment: 12 pages

In this work, we show that the quantum coherence among non-degenerate energy subspaces (CANES) is essential for the energy flow in any quantum system. CANES satisfies almost all of the requirements as a coherence measure, except that the coherence within degenerate subspaces is explicitly eliminated.We show that the energy of a system becomes frozen if and only if the corresponding CANES vanishes, which is true regardless of the form of interaction with the environment. However, CANES can remain zero even if the entanglement changes over time. Furthermore, we show how the power of energy flow is bounded by the value of CANES. An explicit relation connecting the variation of energy and CANES is also presented. These results allow us to bound the generation of system-environment correlation through the local measurement of the system's energy flow.

We present uncertainty relations based on Wigner--Yanase--Dyson skew information with quantum memory. Uncertainty inequalities both in product and summation forms are derived. \mbox{It is} shown that the lower bounds contain two terms: one characterizes the degree of compatibility of two measurements, and the other is the quantum correlation between the measured system and the quantum memory. We study unextendible maximally entangled bases (UMEBs) in \(\mathbb {C}^{d}\otimes \mathbb {C}^{d^{\prime}}\) ($d

The absolutely maximally entangled (AME) states play key roles in quantum information processing. We provide an explicit expression of the generalized Bloch representation of AME states for general dimension $d$ of individual subsystems and arbitrary number of partite $n$. Based on this analytic formula, we prove that the trace of the squared support for any given weight is given by the so-called hyper-geometric function and is irrelevant with the choices of the subsystems. The optimal point for the existence of AME states is obtained.

We present a lower bound of concurrence for four-partite systems in terms of the concurrence for $M\, (2\leq M\leq 3)$ part quantum systems and give an analytical lower bound for $2\otimes2\otimes2\otimes2$ mixed quantum sates. It is shown that these lower bounds are able to improve the existing bounds and detect entanglement better. We study the relation between the coherence of assistance and the regularized coherence of assistance introduced by Chitambar et al. [E. Chitambar et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 116, 070402 (2016)]. The necessary and sufficient conditions that these two quantities coincide are provided. Detailed examples are analyzed and the optimal pure state decompositions such that the coherence of assistance equals the regularized coherence of assistance are derived. Moreover, we present the protocol for obtaining the maximal relative entropy coherence, assisted by another party under local measurement and one-way communication in one copy setting.

The distribution of quantum coherence in multipartite systems is one of the basic problems in the resource theory of coherence. While the usual coherence measures are defined on a single system and cannot capture the nonlocal correlation between subsystems, in order to deal with the distribution of coherence it is crucial to quantify the coherence in bipartite systems properly. Here, we introduce incoherent-quantum (IQ) coherence measures on bipartite systems, which can characterize the correlations between systems. According to the IQ coherence measures on bipartite systems, we find the distribution of coherence of formation and assistance in bipartite systems: the total coherence of formation is lower bounded by the sum of coherence of formation in each subsystem and the entanglement of formation between the subsystems, while the total coherence of assistance is upper bounded by the sum of coherence of assistance in each subsystem and the entanglement of assistance between subsystems. Besides, we also obtain the tradeoff relation between the coherence cost and entanglement cost, distillable coherence and distillable entanglement in bipartite systems. It is challenging task to detect and measure genuine multipartite entanglement. We investigate the problem by considering the average based positive partial transposition(PPT) criterion and the realignment criterion. Sufficient conditions for detecting genuine tripartite entanglement are presented. We also derive lower bounds for the genuine tripartite entanglement concurrence with respect to the conditions. While the PPT criterion and the realignment criterion are powerful for detecting bipartite entanglement and for providing lower bounds of bipartite concurrences, our results give an effective operational way to detect and measure the genuine tripartite entanglement., Comment: 10 pages, 2 figures

We study the ability of a quantum channel to generate quantum coherence when it applies to incoherent states. Based on probabilistic averages, we define a measure of such coherence generating power (CGP) for a generic quantum channel, based on the average coherence generated by the quantum channel acting on a uniform ensemble of incoherent states. Explicit analytical formula of the CGP for any unitary channels are presented in terms of subentropy. An upper bound for CGP of unital quantum channels has been also derived. As a very fundamental principle in quantum physics, uncertainty principle has been studied intensively via various uncertainty inequalities. Based on the information measure introduced by Brukner and Zeilinger in [Phys. Rev. Lett. 83, 3354 (1999)], we derive an uncertainty conservation relation in the presence of quantum memory. We show that the sum of measurement uncertainties over a complete set of mutually unbiased bases on a subsystem is equal to a total uncertainty determined by the initial bipartite state. Hence for a given bipartite system the uncertainty is conserved and the uncertainty relation is given by an equality. When the total uncertainty vanishes, all the uncertainties related to every mutually unbiased base measurement are zero, which is substantially different from the uncertainty relation given by Berta et. al. [Nat. Phys. 6, 659 (2010)] where an uncertainty inequality is presented. By directly measuring the corresponding quantum mechanical observables on a 5-qubit spin system, we experimentally verify the uncertainty conservation relation in the presence of quantum memory without quantum state tomography.

The distribution of coherence in multipartite systems is one of the fundamental problems in the resource theory of coherence. To quantify the coherence in multipartite systems more precisely, we introduce new coherence measures, incoherent-quantum (IQ) coherence measures, on bipartite systems by the max- and min- relative entropies and provide the operational interpretation in certain subchannel discrimination problem. By introducing the smooth max- and min- relative entropies of incoherent-quantum (IQ) coherence on bipartite systems, we exhibit the distribution of coherence in multipartite systems: the total coherence is lower bounded by the sum of local coherence and genuine multipartite entanglement. Besides, we find the monogamy relationship for coherence on multipartite systems by incoherent-quantum (IQ) coherence measures.
