Abstract

An innovative technique to access the nuclear matrix elements entering the expression of the life time of the double beta decay by relevant cross section measurements of double charge exchange reactions is proposed. A key aspect of the project is the use of the MAGNEX large acceptance magnetic spectrometer, for the detection of the ejectiles, and of the LNS K800 Superconducting Cyclotron (CS), for the acceleration of the required high resolution and low emittance heavy-ion beams, already in operation at INFN Laboratory Nazionali del Sud in Catania (Italy). However, a major upgrade is foreseen for the INFN-LNS research infrastructure to cope with beam currents as high as several ppA required by the project.

Abstract

An experimental campaign aiming to investigate the effects of innovative nanostructured targets based on Ag nanowires on laser energy absorption in the ns time domain has been carried out at the Laser Energy for Nuclear Science laboratory of INFN-LNS in Catania. The tested targets were realized at INFN-Bologna by anodizing aluminium sheets in order to obtain layers of porous Al2O3 of different thicknesses, on which nanowires of various metals are grown by electro-deposition with different heights. Targets were then irradiated by using a Nd:YAG laser at different pumping energies. Advanced diagnostic tools were used for characterizing the plasma plume and ion production. As compared with targets of pure Al, a huge enhancement (of almost two order of magnitude) of the X-ray flux emitted by the plasma has been observed when using the nanostructured targets, with a corresponding decrease of the "optical range" signal, pointing out that the energetic content of the laser produced plasma was remarkably increased. This analysis was furthermore confirmed from time-of-flight spectra.

Abstract

We have recently evaluated the quality of γ -ray angular distributions that can be extracted in particle-gamma coincidence measurements using the CHIMERA detector at LNS. γ -rays have been detected using the CsI(Tl) detectors of the spherical part of the CHIMERA array. Very clean γ -rays angular distributions were extracted in reactions induced by different stable beams impinging on 12 C thin targets. The results evidenced an effect of projectile spin flip on the γ -rays angular distributions. γ -particle coincidence measurements were also performed in reactions induced by neutron rich exotic beams produced through in-flight fragmentation at LNS. In recent experiments also the Farcos array was used to improve energy and angular resolution measurements of the detected charged particles. Results obtained with both stable and radioactive beams are reported.

Abstract

Odd-even staggering effects on charge distributions are investigated for fragments produced in semiperipheral and central collisions of ${}^{112}\text{Sn}+{}^{58}\text{Ni}$ at 35 MeV/nucleon. For fragments with $Z\ensuremath{\le}16$ one observes a clear overproduction of even charges, which decreases for heavier fragments. Staggering persists up to $Z\ensuremath{\sim}30$. The staggering appears to be substantially independent of the centrality of the collisions, suggesting that it is mainly related to the last few steps in the decay of hot nuclei.

Abstract

We present a new experimental method to correlate the isotopic composition of intermediate mass fragments (IMF) emitted at midrapidity in semiperipheral collisions with the emission timescale: IMFs emitted in the early stage of the reaction show larger values of $\ensuremath{\langle}N/Z\ensuremath{\rangle}$ isospin asymmetry, stronger angular anisotropies, and reduced odd-even staggering effects in neutron to proton ratio $\ensuremath{\langle}N/Z\ensuremath{\rangle}$ distributions than those produced in sequential statistical emission. All these effects support the concept of isospin ``migration'', that is sensitive to the density gradient between participant and quasispectator nuclear matter, in the so called neck fragmentation mechanism. By comparing the data to a stochastic mean field (SMF) simulation we show that this method gives valuable constraints on the symmetry energy term of nuclear equation of state at subsaturation densities. An indication emerges for a linear density dependence of the symmetry energy.

Abstract

Effects related to the neutron to proton ratio (N/Z) degree of freedom in nuclear collisions 40Ca + 40Ca, 40Ca + 48Ca and 48Ca + 48Ca at 25 MeV per nucleon, analyzed by means of the Chimera multi-detector, have been investigated. Strong isotopic effects are found in mass distributions of light isotopes. Moreover, the competition between various reaction mechanisms at semi-central impact parameters seems to be influenced by the neutron richness of the total system formed.

Abstract

We show new data from the $^{64}$Ni+$^{124}$Sn and $^{58}$Ni+$^{112}$Sn reactions studied in direct kinematics with the CHIMERA detector at INFN-LNS and compared with the reverse kinematics reactions at the same incident beam energy (35 A MeV). Analyzing the data with the method of relative velocity correlations, fragments coming from statistical decay of an excited projectile-like (PLF) or target-like (TLF) fragments are discriminated from the ones coming from dynamical emission in the early stages of the reaction. By comparing data of the reverse kinematics experiment with a stochastic mean field (SMF) + GEMINI calculations our results show that observables from neck fragmentation mechanism add valuable constraints on the density dependence of symmetry energy. An indication is found for a moderately stiff symmetry energy potential term of EOS., Comment: Talk given by E. Abstract

Dynamical breakup of projectile-like fragments (PLF) following dissipative reactions of 48 Ca projectiles with 112 Sn and 124 Sn is shown to exhibit “isoscaling” regularities that can be understood in terms of phase space governed by ground state masses. Ambiguities in isoscaling parameters obscure information on nuclear symmetry energy at subnormal densities.

Abstract

Correlations between two or more particles can be used as a tool to explore the space-time features of nuclear reactions as well as spectroscopic properties of produced unbound clusters. In order to have new options to study the mentioned correlations, FARCOS (Femtoscope ARray for COrrelations and Spectroscopy) has been conceived as a compact high resolution array, composed of square telescopes. Abstract

International audience; We are currently developing a novel detection system featuring high angular and energy resolution and able to reconstruct the particles momentum at high precision for different physical cases in multi-fragmentation nuclear physics experiments, based on Double Sided Silicon Strip Detectors as ΔE stages aimed at performing also pulse shape analysis for fragments stopping therein. We carried out a detailed qualification of the performance of the strip detectors. In order to provide the detector response matrix we used a pulsed monoenergetic proton beam. The paper reviews the pulsed proton beam facility of the LaBeC of INFN - Sezione di Firenze and present the results of the characterization of the DSSSD prototypes with the pulsed proton beam. In particular we will discuss the amplitude and time response mapping and we will present the analysis of the dependence of the signal shape as a function of the position of interaction.

Abstract

In the framework of multi-fragmentation experiments the evolution towards two- (or more) particle correlations with stable and radioactive beams calls for the development of a novel detection system featuring high angular and energy resolution and able to reconstruct the particles momentum at high precision. The proposed detection system, named FARCOS (Femtoscopy ARray for COrrelations and Spectroscopy) will be beneficial for different physical cases. To this aim we are building a prototype detection system featuring four telescopes. Each telescope features an active area of 6.4 cm × 6.4 cm and is composed of three detection stages. The first ΔE stage is a Double Sided Silicon Strip Detector (DSSSD), 300 μm thick, featuring 32 × 32 strips. The second ΔE stage is again a DSSSD, 1500 μm thick, featuring 32 × 32 strips. The third stage, acting as calorimeter, is composed by four CsI(Tl) crystals with an active area of 3.2 cm × 3.2 cm and an absorption length of 6 cm forming a 2 × 2 matrix. The scintillators are readout by a Silicon photodiode 300 μm thick. The paper presents the relevant features of FARCOS and the expected performance of the silicon detection layers, with a special focus on the requirements of the frontend electronics for the DSSSD and the qualification of the DSSSD. In addition we report the first results of the preliminary on-beam tests. © 2012 IEEE.

Abstract

Heavy ion reactions induced by few tens MeV/nucleon beams constitute an ideal framework for producing and studying nuclear excited states close to the decay threshold. The fragmentation of quasi-projectiles from the nuclear reaction 40Ca+12C at 25 MeV/nucleon performed at LNS-Catania was employed in order to populate the Hoyle state of 12C and investigate the theoretically predicted molecular structures. Complete kinematic characterization of individual decay events, made possible by the CHIMERA high-granularity 4π charged particle multi-detector, reveals that 7.5±4.0% of the particle decays of the Hoyle state correspond to direct decays in three equal-energy α-particles and thus fulfill the decay criteria of an α-particle condensate. Moreover, events with increased kinetic energy dispersion in the 12C center of mass, which amount to 9.5±4.0%, point toward the occurrence of a second competing molecular configuration, a linear α-chain type. Both α-particle condensate and linear chain structures have been theoretically predicted but, to our knowledge, not experimentally confirmed so far.

Abstract

Even-odd effects in $Z$ and $N$ distributions of light fragments emitted at forward angles in nuclear collisions ${}^{40}$Ca $+$ ${}^{40}$Ca, ${}^{40}$Ca $+$ ${}^{48}$Ca, and ${}^{48}$Ca $+$ ${}^{48}$Ca at 25 MeV/nucleon and identified in charge and mass with the Chimera multidetector have been analyzed. The amplitude of even-odd staggering effects seems to be related to the neutron to proton ratio $N/Z$ of the entrance channels. A qualitative explanation of this effect, taking into account the deexcitation phase of primary excited fragments, is discussed.

Abstract

Isospin dependence of dynamical and thermodynamical properties observed in reactions 40Ca+ 40,48Ca and 40Ca + 46Ti at 25 MeV/nucleon has been studied. We used the CHIMERA multi-detector array. Strong isospin effects are seen in the isotopic distributions of light nuclei and in the competition between different reaction mechanisms in semi-central collisions. We will show also preliminary results obtained in nuclear collision 48Ca + 48Ca at 25MeV/nucleon, having very high N/Z value in the entrance channel (N/Z = 1. 4). The enhancement of evaporation residue production confirms the strong role played by the N/Z degree of freedom in nuclear dynamics.

Abstract

The fragmentation of quasi-projectiles from the nuclear reaction $^{40}$Ca+$^{12}$C at 25 MeV/nucleon was used to produce excited states candidates to $\alpha$-particle condensation. Complete kinematic characterization of individual decay events, made possible by a high-granularity 4$\pi$ charged particle multi-detector, reveals that 7.5$\pm$4.0% of the particle decays of the Hoyle state correspond to direct decays in three equal-energy $\alpha$-particles., Comment: Phys. Abstract

Equilibration and equilibration rates have been measured by colliding Sn nuclei with different isospin asymmetries at beam energies of E/A=35 MeV. Using the yields of mirror nuclei of {sup 7}Li and {sup 7}Be, we have studied the diffusion of isospin asymmetry by combining data from asymmetric {sup 112}Sn+{sup 124}Sn and {sup 124}Sn+{sup 112}Sn collisions with those from symmetric {sup 112}Sn+{sup 112}Sn and {sup 124}Sn+{sup 124}Sn collisions. We use these measurements to probe isospin equilibration in central collisions where nucleon-nucleon collisions are strongly blocked by the Pauli exclusion principle. The results are consistent with transport theoretical calculations that predict a degree of transparency in these collisions, but inconsistent with the emission of intermediate mass fragments by a single chemically equilibrated source. Comparisons with quantum molecular dynamics calculations are consistent with results obtained at higher incident energies that provide constraints on the density dependence of the symmetry energy.

Abstract

An interesting process of violent reseparation of a heavy nuclear system into three or four fragments of comparable size was recently observed in {sup 197}Au+{sup 197}Au collisions at 15 MeV/nucleon. Combined analysis of the binary deep inelastic events and the ternary and quaternary breakup events demonstrates that the newly observed ternary and quaternary reactions belong to the same wide class of deep inelastic collisions as the conventional (binary) damped reactions. It is shown that the ternary and quaternary breakup reactions occur at extremely inelastic collisions corresponding to small impact parameters, while more peripheral collisions lead to well-known binary deep inelastic reactions.

Abstract

A quantitative comparison is made between the absolute cross sections associated with statistical and dynamical emission of heavy fragments in the {sup 124}Sn+{sup 64}Ni and {sup 112}Sn+{sup 58}Ni collisions experimentally investigated at 35A MeV beam energy using the multidetector CHIMERA. The result shows that the dynamical process is about twice as probable in the neutron-rich {sup 124}Sn+{sup 64}Ni system as in the {sup 112}Sn+{sup 58}Ni neutron-poor one. This unexpected and significant difference indicates that the reaction mechanism is strongly dependent on the entrance-channel isospin (N/Z) content.

Abstract

We discuss results on the emission of light clusters in nuclear reactions 40 Ca + 40,48 Ca ,46 Ti at 25 MeV/nucleon. They were detected and identified in mass and charge by means of the CHIMERA 4π array. Inclusive emission at forward angles shows that isotopic yields of Li and Be nuclei are related to the N/Z values of entrance channels. Moreover, structure effects and even-odd staggering in charge distributions of intermediate mass fragments emitted at forward angles will be shown. In agreement with previous experimental findings, odd-even effects are clearly visible in N ≈ Z systems, while are less pronounced in the neutron rich collision 40 Ca +48 Ca . These experimental findings are compared to preliminary data obtained in 40 Ca +48 Ca . collision at 25 MeV/nucleon.

Abstract

Collisions of a very heavy nonfusing nuclear system $^{197}\mathrm{Au}$$+$$^{197}\mathrm{Au}$ were studied at an energy of $15$ MeV/nucleon. An interesting process of violent reseparation of this heavy system into three or four fragments of comparable size was observed. In the case of ternary partitioning, either the projectile-like fragment (PLF) or target-like fragment (TLF) breaks up almost collinearly with the PLF-TLF separation axis. In the case of quaternary reactions, both PLF and TLF were observed breaking up along this direction. By comparison with a dynamical model of deep inelastic collisions it was concluded that the ternary and quaternary reactions occur in semiperipheral collisions, in a range of angular momenta corresponding to about $0.5--0.7$ of the maximum $L$ value for grazing collisions. The time elapsing from the scission of the binary PLF $+$ TLF system to the secondary scission of PLF or TLF was estimated to be of about $70--80$ fm/$c$ for the ternary reactions and $80--100$ fm/$c$ for the quaternary reactions.

Abstract

Collisions involving 112Sn and 124Sn nuclei have been simulated with the improved Quantum Molecular Dynamics transport model. The results of the calculations reproduce isospin diffusion data from two different observables and the ratios of neutron and proton spectra. By comparing these data to calculations performed over a range of symmetry energies at saturation density and different representations of the density dependence of the symmetry energy, constraints on the density dependence of the symmetry energy at sub-normal density are obtained. Abstract

Various aspects observed in the reactions 40Ca+40,48 Ca,46Ti at E =25 MeV / nucleon , studied by means of the CHIMERA detector, will be discussed. An isospin effect on the competition between heavy residue production and binary-like channels has been observed in incomplete fusion events. From the thermodynamical point of view, kinetic energy spectra of protons emitted in fusion-evaporation events were fitted with two maxwellian functions. Despite of the different neutron richness of the populated sources, the average temperatures obtained for the quasi-fused systems are similar ( T ≃5.2 MeV ). We also performed a preliminary reconstruction of the excitation energy reached by quasi-fusion sources populated in the studied reactions.

Abstract

International audience; A quantitative comparison regarding absolute cross sections associated to Statistical and Dynamical Fission processes in the 124Sn+64Ni and 112Sn+58Ni collisions experimentally investigated at 35 AMeV beam energy using multi-detector CHIMERA is presented. It results that Dynamical Fission process is about two times more probable in the neutron rich 124Sn+64Ni system than in the 112Sn+58Ni neutron poor one. The observed difference could indicate an influence of the entrance channel Isospin (N/Z) content on the reaction mechanisms.

Abstract

40Ca+;{40,48}Ca,46Ti reactions at 25 MeV/nucleon have been studied using the 4pi CHIMERA detector. An isospin effect on the competition between fusionlike and binarylike reaction mechanisms has been observed. The probability of producing a heavy residue is lower in the case of N approximately Z colliding systems as compared to the case of reactions induced on the neutron rich 48Ca target. Predictions based on constrained molecular dynamics II calculations show that the competition between fusionlike and binary reactions in the selected centrality bins can constrain the parametrization of the symmetry energy and its density dependence in the nuclear equation of state.

Abstract

At LNS are available radioactive beams at tandem and intermediate energies provided respectively by the EXCYT and by the fragmentation FRIBS facilities. Using these beams, and the 4π detector CHIMERA, we want to study excitation and decay of resonances in light exotic nuclei populated with pick‐up stripping and other reaction mechanisms. Some preliminary results obtained with stable and unstable beams are reported.

Abstract

A new reaction mechanism of violent reseparation of a heavy nucleus-nucleus system, {sup 197}Au+{sup 197}Au, into three or four massive fragments in collisions at 15 MeV/nucleon has been observed. After reseparation, the fragments are almost exactly aligned, thus showing a very short time scale of the reseparation process, of about 70-80 fm/c.

Abstract

Signatures of isospin effects were investigated for neutron-rich ({sup 124}Sn+{sup 64}Ni) and neutron-poor ({sup 112}Sn+{sup 58}Ni) systems at 35 MeV/nucleon for noncentral collisions. The centrality dependence of these signatures was tested for several impact parameter estimators. Our main observations are (i) the yields of {sup 1}H and {sup 3}He particles in the neutron-poor system are strongly enhanced with respect to the neutron-rich system, and the yields of {sup 3}H, {sup 6}He, and {sup 7,8}Li are suppressed at all impact parameters, (ii) the yields of {sup 2}H, {sup 4}He, and {sup 6}Li particles are almost the same for both systems, (iii) the N/Z ratio of intermediate mass fragments is correlated with the neutron richness of the system and is weakly dependent on the centrality of the collision, and (iv) the neutron richness of the detected fragments increases strongly with decreasing rapidity in the range from that of the projectile-like fragment to the c.m. region. The gross features of experimental data are reproduced by quantum molecular dynamics model calculations. A comparison between model calculations and the data indicates that the fragments produced in the c.m. regions are weakly excited.

Abstract

Collisions of a very heavy nuclear system, 197 Au + 197 Au , were studied at the energy of 15 MeV/nucleon with the aim to identify and investigate main macroscopic modes of re-separation of such a heavy nuclear system. The experiment was performed at the INFN LNS laboratory in Catania by using the multidetector array CHIMERA. Along with binary strongly damped collisions, a strong component of a new re-separation mode: the "fast ternary fission" in characteristic nearly co-linear configuration was observed and the time scale of this process was determined.

Abstract

Multi-breakup processes for the {sup 124}Sn+{sup 64}Ni system at 35 MeV/nucleon have been studied with the forward part of the CHIMERA detector. An extensive comparison between experimental data corresponding to almost complete ternary events and constrained molecular dynamics (CoMD-II) calculations suggests different characteristic times in the selected processes. This is in agreement with previous studies of the same reaction already published concerning the prompt intermediate-mass-fragment emission. Stimulated by CoMD-II calculations, we investigate the existence of more complex dynamical multi-breakup processes occurring on the same time scale. A detailed study of the rotational dynamics leading to slower dynamical fission processes is also presented.

Abstract

Ternary events originating from the 197 Au + 197 Au reaction at 15 MeV/nucleon, studied by using the multidetector array CHIMERA at LNS Catania, have been collected in almost complete 2π range of the forward hemisphere of CHIMERA thus extending the angular range of our previously reported preliminary data. Energy- and time calibrations for heavy fragments at large angles were supplemented with an analysis of coincidence events of binary strongly damped reactions. Contrary to the previous preliminary results, the new complete data clearly show presence of sequential fission processes in which one of Au -like nuclei undergoes fission after re-separation of the primary binary system. Mechanism of these two types of reactions observed in our data, sequential fission reactions and prompt ternary processes, are presently studied using comparisons with predictions of the stochastic BNV model of Baran, Colonna and Di Toro and the QMD model of Łukasik.

Abstract

The systems 124 Sn+64 Ni and 112 Sn+58 Ni at 35 AMeV were analyzed in previous experiments, by using the 4π multi-detector CHIMERA in order to investigate the time-scale and mechanisms of fragments formation. By comparing the two systems, effects that have been correlated to Isospin transport in reaction dynamics and symmetry energy term of nuclear equation of state at sub-saturation density were found. Recently, in order to disentangle the Isospin effects from size effects the 124 Xe+64 Ni reaction was investigated at the same beam energy of 35 AMeV.

Abstract

Intermediate energy heavy ion collisions are unique probes to study the properties of nuclei far away from the nuclear ground state. The CHIMERA detector is a powerful second generation 4/spl pi/ array conceived to study nuclear reactions at intermediate energies. The array has 1192 detection cells covering almost 95% of total solid angle. The CHIMERA device operated at the Laboratori Nazionali del Sud in Catania in four campaigns in 2000, 2003, 2004 and 2005, showing very good performances in the detection and identification capabilities. Experimental results are presented, together with the improvement in progress to extend further the detection and identification capabilities.

Abstract

The capability of digital pulse shape technique to acquire data from CHIMERA detection cells (Si-CsI(Tl) telescopes) has been evidenced in our previous works. We have now applied this technique to the charge discrimination of the products stopped in the silicon detectors. Large area totally depleted CHIMERA planar silicon detectors (5 cmtimes5 cm area, 300 mum thick) in both rear and front side injection have been used. In preliminary tests full charge identification for the reaction products up to Z=11 have been obtained for products both crossing (DeltaE-E technique) and stopping in the silicon detector, using a 21 MeV/u 20Ne beam at the LNS Superconducting Cyclotron in Catania. The quality of the obtained results clearly indicates that the digital signal processing approach is able to give excellent results in this application, too

Abstract

Isotopic identification of nuclear products in heavy-ion physics with stable and exotic beams (RIB) is of crucial importance for understanding the behaviour of nuclear matter far away from normal density. This is true for both nuclear structure and nuclear reaction studies. The recent upgrading of the 4pi CHIMERA detector by pulse shape methods in silicon detectors in connection with the time of flight (TOF) and the energy loss (DE-E) methods allows for light charged particles and light fragments (Z < 10) identification in a broad kinetic energy range from the Coulomb barrier up to tens of MeV/nucleons. After a brief discussion of the experimental methodology used in the detector to identify the particles some relevant applications in the field of nuclear reaction studies with stable and exotic beams.

Abstract

In the present paper we have studied \ensuremath{\gamma}-ray emission in coincidence with charged particles measured in binary processes for the collisions $^{40}\mathrm{Ca}+^{48}\mathrm{Ca}$, $^{46}\mathrm{Ti}$ at 10 MeV/nucleon. The comparison between \ensuremath{\gamma}-ray yields, obtained under identical conditions on the charged particles detected in coincidence, shows an extra yield of around 15 MeV for the $^{40}\mathrm{Ca}+^{48}\mathrm{Ca}$ collision. The analysis of the \ensuremath{\gamma}-charged fragment coincidence events, along with the study performed with the dynamical model CoMD-II, explains this effect as the result of a giant dipole resonance emission from the intermediate system, characterized by a high degree of coherence. The performed study aims to establish a link among pre-equilibrium \ensuremath{\gamma}-ray emission, initial charge/mass ratio memory effects in the intermediate system for the $^{40}\mathrm{Ca}+^{48}\mathrm{Ca}$ system at short time, and the achievement of a substantial charge/mass ratio or isospin equilibration of the primary fragments formed at longer time. Moreover, the presence of a remarkable extra yield in a restricted range of the \ensuremath{\gamma}-ray spectra suggests that this equilibration process evolves through a quasiresonant mechanism.

Abstract

We have designed, built, and tested an on-line pre-analysis and data-storage unit for the data acquisition system of the 4/spl pi/-detector CHIMERA. The unit uses special algorithms to perform particle identification and automatic peak detection. It tags in charge each event and stores the results on external unit, together with the raw data. It consists of two commercial 2 GHz workstations connected together through 1 Gb/s Ethernet boards and to the data acquisition system through a 100 Mb/s Ethernet.

Abstract

Some properties of fast, nonequilibrium splitting of projectiles in the $^{124}\mathrm{Sn}+^{64}\mathrm{Ni}$ reaction at 35A MeV were determined using the $4\ensuremath{\pi}$ CHIMERA detector system. In particular the charge distributions, in- and out-of-plane angular distributions, and relative velocities of projectilelike fragments were measured. The time scale of the process was estimated and it turned out that the process is sequential but much faster than the ordinary, equilibrated fission.

Abstract

Mass and atomic-number identification (ID) of reaction products is a fundamental requirement of any nuclear reaction study. An effective particle-ID method is demonstrated, based on pulse shape analysis/discrimination (PSD) applied to large-area, single-element silicon detectors. This technique uses commercial electronic modules and achieves atomic number resolution rivaling that typically obtained with multi-element (/spl Delta/E-E) detector telescopes. The method is applied to the CHIMERA detector system without compromising its time-of-flight (TOF) resolution. In-beam tests of the PSD method have been performed with large-area, 300-/spl mu/m thick CHIMERA silicon detectors, measuring particles from the /sup 19/F+/sup 12/C reaction at Tandem energies. Performance of a simple PSD set up is discussed, for front and rear particle injection.

Abstract

In previous papers we have shown the applicability of digital pulse shape acquisition to the large area telescopes of the 4/spl pi/-multidetector CHIMERA. In view of measuring with this technique the time of flight of the reaction products to obtain also mass identification, we have performed several tests in laboratory, using pulse and waveform generators, and preliminary measurements with a Ne beam at 20.5 MeV/u, at different sampling frequencies. In this contribution we present the preliminary results obtained.
