Leflunomide (LFND) is an immunosuppressive and immunomodulatory disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD) that was approved for treating rheumatoid arthritis. LFND-induced cardiotoxicity was not fully investigated since its approval. We investigated the cardiac injury in male mice and identified the role of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2/nuclear factor-κ B (Nrf2/NF-κB) signaling. Male albino mice were assigned into five groups as control, vehicle, and LFND (2.5, 5, and 10 mg/kg). We investigated cardiac enzymes, histopathology, and the mRNA expression of Nrf2, NF-κB, BAX, and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). The bioinformatic study identified the interaction between LFND and Nrf2/NF-κB signaling; this was confirmed by amelioration in mRNA expression (0.5- to 0.34-fold decrease in Nrf2 and 2.6- to 4.61-fold increases in NF-κB genes) and increased (1.76- and 2.625-fold) serum creatine kinase (CK) and 1.38- and 2.33-fold increases in creatine kinase-MB (CK-MB). Histopathological results confirmed the dose-dependent effects of LFND on cardiac muscle structure in the form of cytoplasmic, nuclear, and vascular changes in addition to increased collagen deposits and apoptosis which were increased compared to controls especially with LFND 10 mg/kg. BACKGROUND. Angiosarcoma is a neoplastic tumor that originates from endothelial cells, accounting for less than 2% of all sarcomas. The sinonasal localization of angiosarcoma is uncommon. It is a highly aggressive tumor with an increased risk of local recurrence. CASE REPORT. We present the case of a 24-year-old male patient with 1 month of left side epistaxis, left nasal obstruction, headache and left hemifacial paresthesia. The CT scan of the skull and paranasal sinuses performed with intravenous contrast showed a macronodular heterogenous tissue lesion, partially hyperdense spontaneously, iodophilic, with multiple vascular trajectories apparently of the arterial type, localised in the left maxillary sinus and ipsilateral nasal cavity. The first result from histopathological examination concluded for sinonasal angiofibroma with no signs of malignancy. Even if a wide resection was performed by external and endoscopic approach, a quite quick local recurrence appeared. After the second surgical resection of the tumor, the histopathological examination correlated with immunohistochemical tests and the clinical-imaging aspect concluded on sinonasal angiosarcoma. The proper treatment was delayed because of the histopathological examination misinterpretation. CONCLUSION. At a particular aquaculture facility in Zhangjiajie in China, the Chinese giant salamander (Andrias davidianus) exhibited analogous clinical manifestations, culminating in sequential mortalities. This study used rigorous aseptic sampling methods to isolate bacteria from the affected liver of salamanders to determine the causative agent behind the decline in amphibians. A bacterial pathogen was isolated from diseased A. davidianus, and the strain was named DN-3. This isolate was subjected to bacterial identification, antibiotic susceptibility assays, reinfection experiments, and biochemical profiling. The isolated bacterial strain was definitively identified as Acinetobacter schindleri using 16S rRNA sequence analysis and biochemical identification. Antibiotic susceptibility testing revealed that this isolate was susceptible to neomycin, macrolides, doxycycline, piperacillin, nitrofurantoin, and carbenicillin. Subsequent reinfection assays, in which varying concentrations of the bacterial inoculum were administered to healthy salamanders, confirmed that the pathogen elicited varying degrees of morbidity or mortality within an eight-day observation period. The median lethal dose (LD50) of A. schindleri DN-3 for A. davidianus was calculated to be 6.25×104 CFU/mL. This result supports the significant pathogenicity of the strain for A. davidianus. Limited data exist regarding the association between hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA levels and liver histopathological changes in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) during the immune tolerant (IT) phase. In this study, we retrospectively analysed liver biopsy results from 150 adult IT‐CHB patients. The liver tissue necroinflammation and fibrosis were evaluated by the Scheuer scoring system. Multivariate logistic regression, smooth curve fitting, and segmented regression models were used to examine the association between HBV DNA levels and liver histopathological changes. A total of 26%, 30.67% and 42% of IT patients had significant necroinflammation (≥G2), significant fibrosis (≥S2) and significant histopathological changes (≥G2 and/or ≥S2), respectively. HBV DNA levels were independently and non‐linear inversely associated with significant necroinflammation and histopathological changes in IT‐CHB patients. Patients with HBV DNA levels <107 IU/mL had a higher risk of significant histopathological changes compared to those with levels >107 IU/mL. The findings were further confirmed by smooth curve fitting analyses, subgroup and sensitivity analyses. In segmented regression model analyses, the optimal DNA value for the lowest odds ratio of significant histopathological changes was 7.26 log10 IU/mL. A non‐linear inverse association between HBV DNA levels and significant histopathological changes in IT‐CHB patients. Levetiracetam (LEV) is being used by women with reproductive-age epilepsy at a significantly higher rate. The purpose of the study was to assess how levetiracetam treatment during pregnancy affected the offspring's weight and cerebellum. Forty pregnant rats were divided into two groups (I, II). Two smaller groups (A, B) were created from each group. The rats in group I were gavaged with approximately 1.5 mL/day of distilled water either continuously during pregnancy (for subgroup IA) or continuously during pregnancy and 14 days postpartum (for subgroup IB). The rats in group II were gavaged with about 1.5 mL/day of distilled water (containing 36 mg levetiracetam) either continuously during pregnancy (for subgroup IA) or continuously during pregnancy and 14 days postpartum (for subgroup IB). After the work was completed, the body weight of the pups in each group was recorded, and their cerebella were analyzed histologically and morphometrically. Following levetiracetam treatment, the offspring showed decreased body weight and their cerebella displayed delayed development and pathological alterations. These alterations manifested as, differences in the thicknesses of the layers of cerebellar cortex as compared to the control groups; additionally, their cells displayed cytoplasmic vacuolation, nuclear alterations, fragmented rough endoplasmic reticulum and lost mitochondrial cristae. Giving levetiracetam to pregnant and lactating female rats had a negative impact on the body weight and cerebella of the offspring. Separating overlapped nuclei is a significant challenge in histopathology image analysis. Recently published approaches have achieved promising overall performance on nuclei segmentation; however, their performance on separating overlapped nuclei is limited. To address this issue, we propose a novel multitask learning network with a bending loss regularizer to separate overlapped nuclei accurately. The newly proposed multitask learning architecture enhances generalization by learning shared representation from the following three tasks: instance segmentation, nuclei distance map prediction, and overlapped nuclei distance map prediction. The proposed bending loss defines high penalties to concave contour points with large curvatures, and small penalties are applied to convex contour points with small curvatures. Minimizing the bending loss avoids generating contours that encompass multiple nuclei. In addition, two new quantitative metrics, the Aggregated Jaccard Index of overlapped nuclei (AJIO) and the accuracy of overlapped nuclei (ACCO), have been designed to evaluate overlapped nuclei segmentation. We validate the proposed approach on the CoNSeP and MoNuSegv1 data sets using the following seven quantitative metrics: Aggregate Jaccard Index, Dice, Segmentation Quality, Recognition Quality, Panoptic Quality, AJIO, and ACCO. Vascular malformations (VMs) are clinically diverse with regard to the vessel type, anatomical location, tissue involvement and size. Consequently, symptoms and disease impact differ significantly. Diverse causative mutations in more and more genes are discovered and play a major role in the development of VMs. However, the relationship between the underlying causative mutations and the highly variable phenotype of VMs is not yet fully understood. In this systematic review, we aimed to provide an overview of known causative mutations in genes in VMs and discuss associations between the causative mutations and clinical phenotypes. PubMed and EMBASE libraries were systematically searched on November 9th, 2022 for randomized controlled trials and observational studies reporting causative mutations in at least five patients with peripheral venous, lymphatic, arteriovenous and combined malformations. Study quality was assessed with the Newcastle‐Ottawa Scale. Data were extracted on patient and VM characteristics, molecular sequencing method and results of molecular analysis. In total, 5667 articles were found of which 69 studies were included, reporting molecular analysis in a total of 4261 patients and 1686 (40%) patients with peripheral VMs a causative mutation was detected. In conclusion, this systematic review provides a comprehensive overview of causative germline and somatic mutations in various genes and associated phenotypes in peripheral VMs. With these findings, we attempt to better understand how the underlying causative mutations in various genes contribute to the highly variable clinical characteristics of VMs. Our study shows that some causative mutations lead to a uniform phenotype, while other causal variants lead to more varying phenotypes. By contrast, distinct causative mutations may lead to similar phenotypes and result in almost indistinguishable VMs. VMs are currently classified based on clinical and histopathology features, however, the findings of this systematic review suggest a larger role for genotype in current diagnostics and classification. Background: Bone marrow lesions (BMLs) in knee osteoarthritis (OA) have been assessed histopathologically and by dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI); however, a direct comparison of the results has not been reported. Purpose: To evaluate and compare the findings by DCE-MRI and histopathology of subchondral BMLs in knee OA. Material and Methods: In total, 19 patients with medial tibiofemoral knee OA undergoing total knee arthroplasty were analyzed. Preoperative MRI, including a DCE sequence, was performed, and bone biopsies were obtained from the resected specimens corresponding to BML areas. The contrast enhancement by DCE-MRI was analyzed using semi-quantitative (area under the curve [AUC]), peak enhancement [PE]), and quantitative (Ktrans, Kep) methods. Enhancement in the medial OA compartment was compared with similar areas in a normal lateral compartment, and the DCE characteristics of BMLs were correlated with semi-quantitatively graded histopathological features. Results: AUC and PE were significantly higher in medial tibial and femoral BMLs compared with the values in the lateral condyles; Ktrans and Kep were only significantly higher in the tibial plateau. In the tibia, AUC and PE were significantly correlated with the grade of vascular proliferation, and PE also with the degree of marrow fibrosis. There was no significant correlation between AUC/PE and histopathological findings in the femur and no correlation between quantitative DCE parameters and histopathological findings. Conclusion: BML characteristics by semi-quantitative DCE in the form of AUC and PE may be used as parameters for the degree of histopathological vascularization in the bone marrow whereas quantitative DCE data were less conclusive. Background: Portal hypertension (PH) is a clinically significant entity that could present with life-threatening gastrointestinal bleeding. Cirrhosis is the most common cause of PH, with well-documented histopathology and etiology. However, in idiopathic portal hypertension (IPH), no single histopathologic finding is associated with PH. Our systematic review aims to identify and summarize the prevalence of the common histological findings of IPH. Methods: We systematically searched PubMed, Cochrane CENTRAL, Web of Science, and Scopus till 1ST March 2022 for studies describing the histopathological features of IPH. Data were extracted from eligible studies and pooled as events rate and 95% confidence interval (CI) using binary random-effects model by open meta-analyst software. Results: We included 23 retrospective studies with a total sample size of 813 patients. The overall incidence of nodular regenerative hyperplasia was 38.6%, 59.8% for portal fibrosis, 51.3% for periportal fibrosis, 39.3% for perisinusoidal fibrosis, 89.8% for portal vein sclerosis, 42.2% for portal inflammation, 53.3% for mega-sinusoids, 39.5% for thickening of portal vein branches, 93.8% for narrowing of portal veins, 53.3% for hepatic veins/venous outflow obstruction, 51.4% for aberrant portal/periportal vessels, 42.4% for shunt vessel, 50.9% for ductular proliferation, and 16.3% for steatosis. Conclusion: Due to the relatively non-pathognomonic and non-specific nature of IPH, a combination of different histological features such as the portal and periportal fibrosis, portal vein sclerosis, mega-sinusoids, narrowing of portal veins, hepatic venous outflow obstruction, aberrant portal or periportal vessels, and ductular proliferation may be of value in diagnosing IPH as the incidence rate of these features was at approximately 50%. Infectious bronchitis is a highly contagious viral disease of chickens, causing significant economic losses in Egyptian chicken farms. In this study, we surveyed the prevalence of infectious bronchitis virus infection in broiler chicken flocks in Assiut Governorate as well as description of its pathological lesions. Pooled samples were collected from 22 broiler chicken flocks suspected to be infected with infectious bronchitis virus. Ten samples were confirmed to be positive for infectious bronchitis virus infection using RT-PCR. Nasal discharge, coughing and gasping were the main signs. Grossly, chickens showed hyperemic trachea with a caseous plug at the bifurcation of the trachea. The kidneys appeared congested and enlarged. Trachea, lungs and kidneys specimens were collected for histopathological examination. Tracheal specimens were also collected for electron microscopy study. Microscopically, the trachea showed complete loss of the epithelial cilia, associated with either necrosis or metaplasia of the lining epithelium. The lungs revealed hemorrhagic pneumonia, necrosis of the bronchial epithelium and thickening in interalveolar tissue with inflammatory edema. The kidneys exhibited swollen glomeruli with hypercellularity, necrosis of renal tubules and severe interstitial hemorrhage. Scanning electron microscopy of the trachea revealed severe deciliation, leaving very short microvilli on the mucosal surface. Transmission electron microscopy demonstrated the presence of viral particles in the epithelial lining. So, despite routine vaccination, IBV is still spreading within broiler flocks in Assiut Governorate, causing severe losses and pathological lesions. Even among vaccinated rabbits, the virus that causes rabbit viral hemorrhagic disease (RHDV) has been increasing in Egypt recently. So, the current study screened the emergent RHDV of vaccinated and unvaccinated domestic rabbits in some Egyptian provinces between 2022 and 2023. 40 pooled Samples were collected from different rabbit flocks with age range of 2 months up to 4 months with high mortality rates, clinical symptoms, and post-mortem lesions related to RHDV. Hemagglutination (HA) test, reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) targeting the partial VP60 and sequencing and phylogenetic analysis were conducted for genotyping of RHDV strains. The results revealed that 16 out of 40 cases that were positive for RHDV and were hemagglutinin-positive, with titer ranging from 2³ to 214 Randomly six isolates were selected for genetic sequence and phylogenetic analysis which revealed their clustering with RHDV2 strains which were detected for the first time in Upper Egypt and submitted on GenBank as (OQ925947 Assiut .vac1 to OQ925952Assiut .vac6). The nucleotide sequence identities of the six isolates were 98.8-100 % compared to each other. The recently isolated strains had nucleotide difference 23, 1 % when compared to commonly vaccinal strain (JQ995154Giza 2006). The inoculated rabbits expressed RHDV-typical signs and postmortem findings and Ninety percent (90 %) mortality rate was recorded within3-6 days post-infection. Microscopic examination revealed that presence of acute necrotizing hepatitis, congestion and widespread hemorrhages in all internal organs; liver, lungs, spleen, kidneys and brain. Sainfoin species (Onobrychis spp.) have been employed for centuries as an essential forage for ruminant animals, both for grazing and as hay. The seeds produced by sainfoin have also been investigated as an animal feed source and were indicated to be a particularly protein‐rich supplement for monogastric animals. This study explores the effects of two sainfoin seed inclusion rates in rat diets compared to a control diet, focusing on blood biochemical parameters and a comprehensive histopathological evaluation of multiple organ systems. Thus, we provide a novel contribution to the body of evidence investigating sainfoin seeds as a protein supplement in monogastric animal diets. In this 21‐day experiment, seven rats each were assigned to the control group, a 5% sainfoin seed group, and a 10% sainfoin seed group. The control group received standard feed and water; the second group received feed with 5% sainfoin seeds; and the third group received feed with 10% sainfoin seeds. At the experiment's end, necropsies and evaluations were conducted. Histopathological exams revealed normal organ structures in all 21 samples, regardless of the group. Blood analysis showed statistically significant decreases in creatine, ALT, P, Ca, and Mg levels in the sainfoin seed groups compared to the control group, with most values nearing reference levels, suggesting potential benefits. Notably, no adverse effects were observed when sainfoin seeds were included at 5% and 10% in the rat feed. These findings contribute to a growing body of research investigating the inclusion of sainfoin seeds in monogastric animal diets, which is a foundational component of assessing sainfoin's potential as a novel pulse crop for human consumption. BACKGROUND: Breast lump is one of the common surgical problems encountered in female patients. The goal of pathological diagnosis is to distinguish between aggressive carcinomas requiring aggressive treatment and benign lesions that allow for a more conservative approach. METHOD: A cross-sectional study was conducted in which the cytological diagnosis of palpable lesion of the breast was compared with histopathological diagnosis to find sensitivity, specificity, negative predictive value (NPV), and positive predictive value (PPV) of FNAC in breast lumps. A total number of 62 fine needle aspiration cytology were performed. Every patient subjected to FNAC underwent a definitive surgical procedure and was subjected to histopathology. RESULTS: Statistical analysis was performed on the tabulated data and sensitivity and specificity with PPV and NPV were obtained. Of all 62 patients selected, only 2 were false negative for malignancy i.e., they were detected as benign lesions on FNAC but found to be malignant on histopathology. Hence, the sensitivity of the study was 92.3% and the specificity for malignant lesions was 100%. The PPV was 100% and the NPV was 94.7% CONCLUSION: Histological correlation indicated FNAC to be a good diagnostic tool as the p-value turned out to be 0.001, considered extremely significant. Background: Gastric cancer is one of the common causes of cancer, especially among older males. Its incidence and mortality vary greatly by geography and are highly dependent on food and Helicobacter pylori infection. Objective: To describe the general pattern of primary gastric cancers in the western region of Odisha and compare the findings of patients' age, sex, gross features, and histological types to findings from other studies. Methods: Over a five-year period, 82 cases of stomach cancer were included in this descriptive record-based study conducted in the Department of Pathology at VSSIMSAR, Burla. The diagnosis of gastric cancer was made on hematoxylin and eosin-stained sections and were categorized according to the WHO classification system. Results: Out of 82 cases of Gastric cancer, 51 (62.19%) were males and 31 (37.80%) were females, with a male-to-female ratio of 1.6:1. The most common age group was 51-60 (40.24%), followed by 61-70 (23.17%). Pyloric antrum (73.17%) was the commonest site involved, followed by corpus (17.07%), and cardia (2.43%). Grossly, the most common type was an ulcerative lesion. Microscopically, according to WHO classification, tubular adenocarcinomas were the most common (75.6%), followed by signet ring cell carcinoma (12.19%), poorly cohesive carcinoma, non-signet ring cell type (7.31%), and mucinous carcinoma (2.43%). Conclusion: The frequency of stomach cancers in the western region of Odisha exhibited demographic characteristics as well as gross features and histological types were comparable to those documented in other parts of the world. Background:Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) is a very common gynaecological condition that affects women of all age groups. Majority of the cases are diagnosed by sampling the endometrium by procedure like dilatation & curettage and performed histopathology. Objectives:The aim of the study was to evaluate the histopathological pattern of endometrium in perimenopausal women presenting with abnormal uterine bleeding Methods: This was a prospective cross sectional study. A total of 150 perimenopausal women aged 40-48 years have been taken having considered appropriate within the inclusion criteria. Endometrial samples were obtained from D & C material collected in 10% formalin and sent for histopathological analysis. Histopathological endometrial patterns were recorded. Results: Most of the patients were between 40-44 years of age (62.7%) and menorrhagia was the dominant clinical presentation (42%). Majority of the women was comes after 6-12 months of symptoms. Majority of them were multiparous (92%). The commonest pathology was endometrial hyperplasia in 42.7%, women with simple hyperplasia without atypia being the predominant pattern (34%). Proliferative endometrium was the second most common finding (20%). Other pathology identified was secretory endometrium (17.7%), atrophic endometrium (8%), endometritis (4%), endometrial polyp (3.3%) and endometrial carcinoma in 2.6% of cases. Conclusion: Endometrial hyperplasia was the most common histopathological finding in AUB among perimenopausal women.Thus, it is important to use histopathological examination as a complementary diagnostic tool in classifying the structural causes of AUB. Background: Olfactory Neuroblastoma (ONB), so called esthesioneuroblastoma, is a rare malignant tumor of the sinonasal tract. ONB represents 6.3% of all sinonasal tract malignancies, with a prevalence of 0.4 cases per million population. These tumors are slowgrowing and there may be intracranial extension of the tumor. Nasal obstruction, anosmia, recurrent epistaxis and pain are typical early manifestations. Imaging studies are essential in determining tumor extension and surgical planning of ONB. Endonasal biopsy is required to confirm the diagnosis of ONB. The case provides a basis for discussion of ONB and highlights the possibility of extension of this tumor. Case: A 45-year-old male presented with a generalized clonic seizure, conjugate eye deviation, and pre-seizure headache. Post-seizure, the patient was unconscious and incontinent, later appearing conscious but confused. The patient had a history of seizures at home and in the ER, along with occasional headaches over the past year. The patient described nasal congestion, decreased smell, and recurrent nosebleeds, having undergone ethmoidectomy in 2020 for papilloma. Discussion: The patient experienced symptoms of seizures, headache, and nasal disturbances. Olfactory neuroblastoma (ONB) tumor was detected after comprehensive examination. Treatment involves multimodal therapy, including surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy, with prognosis depending on tumor stage and grade. Conclusion: Early diagnosis of ONB is necessary to prevent further tumor progression. Intracranial extension of the ONB should be carefully investigated. Cadmium (Cd) is an environmental and industrial pollutant that causes toxicity in various organs in humans and animals. Bee bread (perga) is a natural flavonoid with a wide range of pharmacological properties. This study was conducted to examine the effects of perga on Cd-induced nephrotoxicity. Thirty-two male Wistar rats were randomly divided into 4 groups, as the Control group, Cd group (5 mg/kg/day, orally), Perga group (0.5 g/kg/day, orally), and Cd + Perga group. At the end of the 28-day experiment, kidney tissue samples were taken and histopathological, immunohistochemical, and biochemical analyses were performed. Histopathologically, severe tubular and glomerular damage occurred as a result of Cd exposure in the Cd group. Immunohistochemically, there was an increase in caspas-3 and Bax expression in the renal tissue in the Cd group. According to the biochemical results, while the catalase, superoxide dismutase, and glutathione peroxidase antioxidant enzyme levels decreased in the Cd group, and the malondialdehyde levels increased. However, most of the above-mentioned Cd-induced changes were attenuated by treatment with perga in the Perga + Cd group. A newborn Thoroughbred filly presented with a large mass located on the ventro‐rostral aspect of the mandible. The mass was surgically removed under general anaesthesia. Upon gross examination, the mass was well circumscribed with a heterogeneous lobulated appearance. The results of histopathology and immunohistochemistry were consistent with a diagnosis of congenital fetal rhabdomyoma. An 11‐year‐old female cinnamon cockatiel (Nymphicus hollandicus) was presented with a coelomic distention. Dystocia was suspected, given its previous history of a calcium‐deficient diet and multiple instances of nonobstructive dystocia. Exploratory coeliotomy revealed a large intraluminal mass extending through the magnum to the uterus (shell gland). Metastasis and multiorgan involvement were not seen. Histopathologically, malignant and invasive fascicles of spindle cells were associated with abundant myxoid matrix and hypocellular areas. Multinucleation, bizarre cells and atypical mitotic figures were prominent. Masson's trichrome staining verified the muscular origin, and the myxoid matrix was demonstrated utilizing Alcian blue. The neoplastic cells exhibited alpha‐smooth muscle actin and desmin immunoreactivity and were negative for vimentin. Thus, the patient was diagnosed with oviductal and uterine myxoid leiomyosarcoma (LMS). The patient survived 34 days post‐surgery before death associated with suspected enteritis. Myxoid LMS is an extremely rare neoplasm in animals. To our knowledge, myxoid LMS has not been reported previously in pet birds. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Papilloma DNA viruses are one of the viruses that cause skin lesions in ruminants. Objectives: The clinical, histopathological and molecular characteristics of cutaneous papilloma in ruminants in Iran are to be investigated in this study. Methods: Samples were collected from 19 small ruminants (5 sheep and 14 goats) with various papillomatosis lesions. The samples taken were studied with histopathological and molecular techniques. Results: In clinical terms, the lesions appeared in different sizes, ranging from 0.5 to 11 cm, and the cauliflower exophytic masses appeared in other parts of the animal's body. In the limbs, most papilloma lesions have been seen (42.1%). In histopathological examination, perinuclear vacuolation epidermal granule layer with various degrees of hypergranulosis, hyperkeratosis, acanthosis, orthokeratosis and parakeratosis were seen. Moreover, all the suspected samples were positive for papillomavirus using the polymerase chain reaction technique. Conclusions: Although the prevalence of papillomaviruses in Iranian sheep and goats is low, it seems necessary to distinguish them from other viral skin diseases, such as cutaneous contagious ecthyma, using molecular techniques and histopathology. Solid pseudopapillary neoplasm (SPN) is a well-circumscribed thick fibrotic pseudo capsule, composed of a variable combination of necrotic and solid cystic hemorrhagic areas that occur mainly in young women in the second and third decades of life. The etiology and pathogenesis of SPN are unknown, it is presumed to originate during early embryogenesis due to endocrine disorders, it also has nonspecific clinical presentations. Choice treatment is surgical resection, which is curative in most of the cases. There are key imaging findings that can help us suspect this pathology. Tomography is the more useful imaging study for the initial evaluation of these tumors. Human nutrition and health rely on edible oils. Global demand for edible oils is expanding, necessitating the discovery of new natural oil sources subjected to adequate quality and safety evaluation. However, in contrast to other agricultural products, India's edible oil supply is surprisingly dependent on imports. The microbial oil is generated by fermentation of oleaginous yeast Rhodotorula mucilaginosa IIPL32 MTCC 25056 using biodiesel plant byproduct crude glycerol as a fermentable carbon source. Enriched with monounsaturated fatty acid, nutritional indices mapping based on the fatty acid composition of the yeast SCO, suggested its plausible use as an edible oil blend. In the present study, acute toxicity evaluation of the yeast SCO in C57BL/6 mice has been performed by randomly dividing the animals into 5 groups with 50, 300, 2000, and 5000 mg/Kg yeast SCO dosage, respectively, and predicted the median lethal dose (LD50). Detailed blood biochemistry and kidney and liver histopathology analyses were also reported. The functions of the liver enzymes were also evaluated to check and confirm the anticipated toxicity. To determine cell viability and in vitro biocompatibility, the 3T3-L1 cell line and haemolysis tests were performed. Elaeophorosis, infection by the filarial worm Elaeophora schneideri, is a parasitic disease of wild ungulates in North America; however, our understanding of the relevance of E. schneideri to moose (Alces alces) morbidity and mortality is incomplete. Between March 2020 and July 2022, necropsy and histopathology were performed on 61 Shiras moose (Alces alces shirasi) in Idaho, US. Among the 41 adults (greater than 1 yr old), 21 moose were from northern Idaho, and 20 were from southeastern Idaho. Elaeophorosis was diagnosed in 24% (10 of 41). All 10 infected moose were from southeastern Idaho; none of the 21 moose from northern Idaho were infected. No juvenile moose (nine from northern and 11 from southeastern Idaho) were infected. Microfilariae were detected histologically in 9 of 10 infected moose, most consistently in brain tissue associated with lesions indicative of ischemic injury to the neuroparenchyma attributed to occlusion of arterioles and capillaries by microfilariae or fibrin thrombi, including edema, necrosis, and glial nodules. Microfilariae found in other tissues of the head, including the eye, tongue, and pinnae of some animals, as well as in lung, heart, liver, and kidney, typically were associated with inflammation. Three of the 10 infected moose had cropped ears attributed to elaeophorosis, and four exhibited abnormal behavior, which may have been due to neuropathology associated with E. schneideri microfilariae in the brain. In the second part of this Continuing Medical Education article on paraneoplastic pemphigus/paraneoplastic autoimmune multiorgan syndrome (PNP/PAMS), its diagnostic criteria, investigative work-up, and management are reviewed. PNP/PAMS is a rare autoimmune blistering disorder associated with high morbidity and mortality. Recognizing PNP/PAMS's key features and its diagnostic criteria is critical in initiating appropriate work-up. Evaluating PNP/PAMS requires knowledge of its findings on histopathology, direct immunofluorescence, indirect immunofluorescence, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Canine ovarian epithelial tumours (OETs) are currently divided into ovarian adenomas and carcinomas, which are further inconsistently subclassified as papillary or cystic, whereas in human medicine, OETs are subdivided into several subtypes. This study aimed to establish clear morphological features enabling more consistent distinction between benign OETs and ovarian carcinomas (OvCas) as well as defining different histopathological patterns of canine OvCas. Analysis revealed a mitotic count threshold of >2 as a potential criterion for differentiating OvCas from benign OETs. Alongside ovarian adenomas, ovarian borderline tumours were introduced as a distinct category among benign OETs. OvCas exhibited five different histopathological patterns, namely papillary, solid with tubular differentiation, micropapillary, cystic and sarcomatous. Since some OvCas can morphologically overlap with other ovarian tumours, the expression of cytokeratin 7, a cytokeratin expressed in ovarian epithelium, was assessed and proved helpful, although it was not expressed in all cases. Furthermore, we investigated the expression of 14-3-3σ and cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2). Based on the frequent expression of 14-3-3σ, this marker appears to have a role in canine OETs since it is not expressed in normal canine ovaries. Sulawesi crested macaques (Macaca nigra) (SCMs) are critically endangered and frequently suffer from chronic intestinal disease in captivity. Often, despite routine diagnostic investigations and confirmation of intestinal inflammation, an aetiology cannot be identified, leading to a non-specific categorization as chronic enterocolitis rather than an aetiological diagnosis. This study evaluates the histological features of gastrointestinal tissues from 23 SCMs, comparing animals with a clinical history suggestive of chronic enterocolitis (n = 14) with those without gastrointestinal clinical signs (n = 9). Tissues were graded according to the Nancy index (NI), a scoring system used in human medicine to evaluate disease activity in ulcerative colitis, a common form of human inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Additionally, inflammatory cells in the colonic lamina propria were visually identified by type, counted and subsequently compared between diseased and control animals. Moderate to severe lymphoplasmacytic inflammation and structural changes were most common in the colons of affected SCMs, whereas histopathological changes were absent or mild in all examined small intestine (n = 17) and stomach (n = 11) tissues. The colonic NI had a significant positive correlation with clinical disease severity and 57% (n = 8) of animals with clinical signs had a NI grade of ≥2, consistent with moderate to severe, active IBD. Half of SCMs with recurrent rectal prolapse (n = 6) had a NI grade of 0, suggesting that intestinal inflammation is not always part of this condition's pathogenesis. The numbers of colonic lymphocytes, plasma cells, neutrophils, macrophages and total leucocytes were significantly higher in diseased animals. This study validated the use of the NI in SCMs, enabling a more standardized histopathological evaluation of the colon in this species. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a routinely used imaging modality for pre-treatment radiologic evaluation of tongue carcinoma, providing accurate information regarding the extent of the disease. To investigate the role of MRI-derived depth of invasion and tumor thickness evaluation in squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue, and to assess if any correlation exists between depth of invasion, tumor thickness, nodal metastasis, muscles, and space involved. Thirty-three patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue who had undergone pre-treatment MRI and excisional biopsy were included. The tumor thickness (TT) and depth of invasion (DOI) were evaluated on MRI and histopathologic images. The relation between different methodologies for assessing showed a very high correlation for the tumor tissue thickness (r = 0.99, p < 0.05) and depth of invasion (r = 0.82, p < 0.05). The tumor thickness and the depth of invasion increased with the loss of differentiation in the carcinoma histopathologically. As the depth of invasion increases, the extent of the spread of the carcinoma to tongue musculature, lingual septum, and spaces also increases. The present study has depicted a high correlation between the tumor thickness and the depth of invasion between MRI and histopathological findings and is the first of its kind to correlate DOI to the invasiveness of the disease. Purpose: This research investigates the effects of betanin isolate derived from beetroot on the lung histopathological image of Wistar rats exposed to 40 ppm formaldehyde, which is a known carcinogen. This research aims to evaluate the potential of betanin isolate to prevent lung cancer caused by formaldehyde exposure. Patients and methods: This research uses Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) as sample, which are divided into six groups, control group, positive control group, negative control group, and three treatment groups with different doses of betanin isolate. The research adopts a true experiment with post-test only design. The rats were exposed to 40 ppm formaldehyde for 12 weeks, except for the control group. The lung histopathological image of the rats was examined and graded for dysplasia. The data were analyzed using Mann-Whitney U test to compare the degree of dysplasia among different groups. Results: The control group is significantly different from all other groups, except treatment group 3. The negative control and control group has significant difference, which means the treatment of formaldehyde in this research is successful in inducing dysplasia. There is also seen a significant difference between treatment group 1 and treatment group 3 which indicates that the protective effect of betanin is dose dependent. There are some tissues with no dysplasia in treatment group 3 that shows the protective effect of betanin in higher dose. Conclusion: This research shows that betanin isolate has a dose-dependent protective effect, with higher dose being more effective. This study aimed to investigate the protective effects and underlying mechanisms of aerobic intermittent exercise on cognitive impairment by PM2.5 exposure. Thirty-two rats were randomly divided into four groups: sedentary, exercise, sedentary + PM2.5 exposure, and exercise + PM2.5 exposure. The exercise groups underwent 8 weeks of exercise training (5 days of exercise per week). Subsequently, PM2.5 exposure groups were subjected to PM2.5 for three weeks. Post-exposure, we assessed cognitive abilities (shuttle box test), hippocampal tissue structure, related inflammatory factors (TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β), the protein of inflammatory responses mechanism (P65, IκκB) and cognitive-related protein levels (BDNF, Aβ-42). PM2.5 exposure caused cognitive impairment, abnormal histopathological changes, reduced cognitive related protein and increased pro-inflammatory cytokine levels. Analysis of shuttle box test data revealed significant main effects on the passive avoidance latency times measured in rats (p<0.05). Aerobic intermittent exercise improves spatial learning decline in rats induced by PM2.5. Conversely, the Exercise + PM2.5 group demonstrated a significant reduction in latency of 24.9 % compared to the Sedentary + PM2.5 group (p<0.05, ES=1.41). Around 20% of complete blood count samples necessitate visual review using light microscopes or digital pathology scanners. There is currently no technological alternative to the visual examination of red blood cells (RBCs) morphology/shapes. True/non-artifact teardrop-shaped RBCs and schistocytes/fragmented RBCs are commonly associated with serious medical conditions that could be fatal, increased ovalocytes are associated with almost all types of anemias. 25 distinct blood smears, each from a different patient, were manually prepared, stained, and then sorted into four groups. Each group underwent imaging using different cameras integrated into light microscopes with 40X microscopic lenses resulting in total 47 K + field images/patches. Two hematologists processed cell-by-cell to provide one million + segmented RBCs with their XYWH coordinates and classified 240 K + RBCs into nine shapes. This dataset (Elsafty_RBCs_for_AI) enables the development/testing of deep learning-based (DL) automation of RBCs morphology/shapes examination, including specific normalization of blood smear stains (different from histopathology stains), detection/counting, segmentation, and classification. Objective: To evaluate the association between Doppler patterns in fetuses with Down syndrome (DS) and their placental histopathologic findings. Methods: A retrospective cross‐sectional study was performed by collecting data from medical records of singleton pregnancies between January 2014 and January 2022, whose fetuses had a confirmed diagnosis of DS either prenatally or postnatally. Placental histopathology, maternal characteristics, and prenatal ultrasound (biometric parameters and umbilical artery [UA] Doppler) were evaluated. Results: Of 69 eligible pregnant women, 61 met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. In the sample, 15 fetuses had an estimated fetal weight < 10th percentile for gestational age (GA) and were considered small for gestational age (SGA). Thirty‐eight fetuses had increased resistance on the UA Doppler. Histologic changes were detected in 100% of the placentas, the most common being delayed villous maturation, alterations associated with poor fetal vascular perfusion, and villous dysmorphism. More than 50% of the placentas showed alterations related to placental insufficiency. We did not observe a statistically significant association between UA Doppler examination and placental alterations. All placentas analyzed in the SGA subgroup showed findings compatible with placental insufficiency. Conclusion: We found no statistically significant association between placental histopathologic findings and UA Doppler abnormalities in fetuses with DS. Background: SARS-CoV-2 can damage human placentas, leading to pregnancy complications, such as preeclampsia and premature birth. This study investigates the histopathological changes found in COVID-19-affected placentas. Materials and Methods: This study included 23 placentas from patients with active COVID-19 during delivery and 22 samples from patients without COVID-19 infection in their medical history. The samples underwent histopathological examination for pathology, such as trophoblast necrosis, signs of vessel damage, or fetal vascular malperfusion. Results: Newborns from the research group have lower weights and Apgar scores than healthy newborns. In the COVID-19 group, calcifications and collapsed intervillous space were more frequent, and inflammation was more severe than in the healthy group. At the same time, the placenta of SARS-CoV-2-positive patients showed signs of accelerated vascular maturation. Trophoblast necrosis was found only in the placentas of the research group. The expression of CD68+ was elevated in the COVID-19 cohort, suggesting that macrophages constituted a significant part of the inflammatory infiltrate. The increase in lymphocyte B markers was associated with placental infarctions, while high levels of CD3+, specific for cytotoxic T lymphocytes, correlated with vascular injury. Conclusions: SARS-CoV-2 is associated with pathological changes in the placenta, including trophoblast necrosis, calcification, and accelerated villous maturation. Those changes appear to be driven by T cells and macrophages, whose increased expression reflects ongoing histiocytic intervillositis in the placenta. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Investigations into the mechanisms of injury and repair in fibroproliferative disease require consideration of the spatial heterogeneity inherent in the disease. Most scoring of fibrotic remodeling in preclinical animal models relies on the modified Ashcroft score, which is an ordinal rubric of macroscopic resolution. The obvious limitations of manual histopathologic scoring have generated an unmet need for unbiased, repeatable scoring of fibroproliferative burden in tissue. Using computer vision approaches on immunofluorescence imaging of the extracellular matrix component laminin, we generated a robust and repeatable quantitative remodeling scorer. In the bleomycin lung injury model, the quantitative remodeling scorer shows significant agreement with the modified Ashcroft scale. This antibody-based approach is easily integrated into larger multiplex immunofluorescence experiments, which we demonstrate by testing the spatial apposition of tertiary lymphoid structures to fibroproliferative tissue, a poorly characterized phenomenon observed in both human interstitial lung diseases and preclinical models of lung fibrosis. Background/Aim: Angiosarcomas of the face are rare but present significant treatment challenges due to their origin in the supportive tissues of blood or lymphatic vessels. Achieving optimal balance between oncological efficacy and aesthetic outcomes requires a multidisciplinary approach, particularly in cases where radical R0 resection is necessary. Delays often occur, especially during histopathological examinations, which can complicate primary plastic reconstruction before definitive pathological findings. Case Report: To address this issue, we present a case with the use of porcine-derived acellular dermal matrix for temporary soft tissue coverage as a viable option in a case of angiosarcoma of the face. This is particularly useful in situations where frozen sections risk the loss of critical anatomical structures and intraoperative diagnosis is not feasible. This approach allowed for satisfactory wound coverage and granulation during diagnostic phases, paving the way for oncologically manageable situations and functional rehabilitation. Background/Aim: Depression is associated with metabolic disorders, including non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). However, the mechanisms underlying the interaction between them are still poorly known. Materials and Methods: In this study, mice on a choline deficiency, L-amino acid-defined, high-fat diet (CDAHFD) developing steatosis were challenged with chronic restraint stress (CRS), a protocol widely used to induce depression. The development of depression and steatosis was evaluated using histopathology analysis, ELISA, q-PCR and Western Blot. Results: The contribution of the activated HPA axis to hepatic steatosis progress was fully established, which was validated using a hepatocyte model. Histopathological and biochemical analysis indicated that steatosis was exacerbated by CRS challenge, and behavioral tests indicated that the mice developed depression. Among the screened endocrinal pathways, the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis was significantly activated and the synergistic effect of CDAHFD and CRS in activating the HPA axis was observed. In the hypothalamus, expression of corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) was increased by 86% and the protein levels of hypothalamic CRH were upregulated by 25% to 33% by CRS treatment. Plasma CRH levels were elevated by 45-56% and plasma adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) levels were elevated by 29-58% by CRS treatment. In the liver, target genes of the HPA axis were activated, accompanied by disruption of the lipid metabolism and progression of steatohepatitis. The lipid metabolism in the Hepa1-6 cell line treated with endogenous corticosterone (CORT) was in accordance with the aforementioned in vivo responses. Conclusion: Depression aggravated hepatic steatosis in CDAHFD-fed mice by activating the HPA axis. The risk of NAFLD development should be fully considered in depressive patients and improvement of psychotic disorders could be an etiological treatment strategy for them. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Colorectal cancer remains a leading cause of mortality worldwide. Significant variation in response to treatment and survival is evident among patients with similar stage disease. Molecular profiling has highlighted the heterogeneity of colorectal cancer but has had limited impact in daily clinical practice. Biomarkers with robust prognostic and therapeutic relevance are urgently required. Ideally, biomarkers would be derived from H&E sections used for routine pathological staging, have reliable sensitivity and specificity, and require minimal additional training. The biomarker targets would capture key pathological features with proven additive prognostic and clinical utility, such as the local inflammatory response and tumour microenvironment. The Glasgow Microenvironment Score (GMS), first described in 2014, combines assessment of peritumoural inflammation at the invasive margin with quantification of tumour stromal content. Using H&E sections, the Klintrup–Mäkinen (KM) grade is determined by qualitative morphological assessment of the peritumoural lymphocytic infiltrate at the invasive margin and tumour stroma percentage (TSP) calculated in a semi‐quantitative manner as a percentage of stroma within the visible field. The resulting three prognostic categories have direct clinical relevance: GMS 0 denotes a tumour with a dense inflammatory infiltrate/high KM grade at the invasive margin and improved survival; GMS 1 represents weak inflammatory response and low TSP associated with intermediate survival; and GMS 2 tumours are typified by a weak inflammatory response, high TSP, and inferior survival. The prognostic capacity of the GMS has been widely validated while its potential to guide chemotherapy has been demonstrated in a large phase 3 trial cohort. Purpose: To compare the histopathological findings of patients who had been diagnosed with dermatochalasis (DC) and had undergone upper eyelid blepharoplasty (ULB) as well as those of controls (C-Group) according to their serum vitamin D (SVD) levels. Methods: The prospective study included 136 upper eyelid skin from 68 patients who underwent surgery for DC and 53 upper eyelid skin from 53 patients who underwent levator surgery with ULB. The DC Group was then divided into 3 subgroups according to the marginal reflex distance (MRD4). The lymphatic vessel (LV) count and diameter of the largest LV (DLLV) were recorded, the stromal collagen bed (SCB) was observed, and its depth was measured, the interfibrillar edema was examined, and the elastic fiber and macrophage counts and recorded, respectively, and then all of these were evaluated. The SVD levels were compared between the DC patients and the C-Group. Results: In comparison to the C-Group, significant changes were seen in the dilated LV, DLLV, SCB depth, interfibrillar edema, elastic fiber density, and macrophage count in the DC sub-Groups (P < 0.001 for all). While no difference was found between DC sub-Group 1 (MRD4 > 4 mm) and the C-Group (P > 0.05), a significant difference was found between DC sub-Group 2 (MRD4 2–4 mm) and DC sub-Group 3 (MRD4 < 2 mm) for all of the parameters (P < 0.05). A statistically significant difference was also found in the SVD levels between the DC sub-Group 1 and DC sub-Groups 2–3 (P < 0.017, P < 0.001 respectively). Conclusion: According to the results of this study, SVD level was significantly lower in DC group. Moreover, an increased LV count and diameter, decreased elastic fiber count, collagen fiber and stromal edema irregularity, and increased macrophage count were found to be associated with the SVD level. Background and Aim: The histological diagnosis of autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is challenging. A new consensus recommendation was provided by the International AIH Pathology Group to address the problems in the histological diagnosis. The purpose of this study is to compare the 2008 ‘simplified’ criteria for AIH with the ‘consensus recommendation’ of 2022 in terms of diagnostic sensitivity. Materials and Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on pathological specimens of patients diagnosed with Autoimmune Hepatitis (AIH) between 2010 and 2022. Out of 188 patients enlisted, 88 were selected based on exclusion criteria. The specimens were examined by two experienced hepatopathologists and a resident pathologist. All specimens were analyzed using both the “simplified” criteria and the new consensus recommendations. Results: Out of a total of 78 patients, the 2022 consensus recommendations raised the diagnostic category of 16 patients (20.5%) to a higher level. Six patients who were previously diagnosed as “atypical” were now considered “possible AIH”, while 10 patients with a “compatible” diagnosis were elevated to “likely AIH” category. No patients were found to fall into a lower diagnostic category according to the new recommendations. A significant difference in diagnostic sensitivity was observed between the 2008 criteria and the 2022 consensus report (p<0.001). Conclusion: The 2022 consensus recommendation may be more sensitive in the diagnosis of AIH in comparison to the 2008 ‘simplified’ histological criteria. More studies are needed both for the validation of the sensitivity of the new consensus recommendation and for the determination of the specificity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Although measurements of blood triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4), and thyroid‐stimulating hormone (TSH) levels in rodent toxicity studies are useful for detection of antithyroid substances, assays for these measurements are expensive and can show high variability depending on blood sampling conditions. To develop more efficient methods for detecting thyroid disruptors, we compared histopathological and immunohistochemical findings in the thyroid and pituitary glands with blood hormone levels. Six‐week‐old male and female Sprague–Dawley rats (five rats per group) were treated with multiple doses of the thyroid peroxidase inhibitors propylthiouracil (PTU) and methimazole by gavage for 28 days. Significant decreases in serum T3 and T4 and increases in TSH were observed in the ≥1 mg/kg PTU and ≥3 mg/kg methimazole groups. An increase in TSH was also detected in male rats in the 0.3 mg/kg PTU group. Histopathological and immunohistochemical analyses revealed that follicular cell hypertrophy and decreased T4 and T3 expressions in the thyroid gland were induced at doses lower than doses at which significant changes in serum hormone levels were observed, suggesting that these findings may be more sensitive than blood hormone levels. Significant increases in thyroid weights, Ki67‐positive thyroid follicular cell counts, and TSH‐positive areas in the pituitary gland were detected at doses comparable with those at which changes in serum T4 and TSH levels were observed, indicating that these parameters may also be useful for evaluation of antithyroid effects. Combining these parameters may be effective for detecting antithyroid substances without relying on hormone measurements. In rats treated with PTU and MMI for 28 days, histopathological and immunohistochemical findings and serum hormone levels were compared to establish a simplified method for detecting antithyroid chemicals. The results demonstrated that histopathological analysis and T4 immunostaining in the thyroid gland were more sensitive parameters than blood hormone levels and that immunohistochemistry for thyroid Ki67 and pituitary TSH may also be useful for evaluation. Background: Gentamicin (GEN) can have serious adverse effects including nephrotoxicity. Setarud (IMOD™) is a new herbal drug with beneficial immune effects, obtained by mixing Tanacetum vulgare (tansy), Rosa canina and Urtica dioica (nettle) extracts as well as selenium, flavonoids and carotenes. This novel study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Setarud (IMOD™) in attenuating GEN-induced nephrotoxicity in male rats. Twenty-eight adult male Sprague Dawley rats (weighing 180–200 g) were randomly divided into four groups (7 rats in each group): Control, IMOD treated (20 mg/kg body weight), GEN treated (100 mg/kg body weight), and GEN + IMOD co-treated. Injections were done intraperitoneally for 12 days. Serum urea, creatinine (Cr), Cr clearance, malondialdehyde (MDA), reduced glutathione (GSH) level, and activities of antioxidant enzymes Peroxidase (POD), Catalase (CAT), and Glutathione peroxidase (GPx) were measured by the colorimetric method. Volume density of proximal convoluted tubule (PCT), tubular necrosis, tubular cast formation, and leukocytic infiltration were evaluated histopathologically. Results: In the GEN group, there were significantly higher serum urea, Cr, and MDA levels with lower Cr clearance, GSH levels, POD, GPx and CAT activities, and PCT volume density with presence of tubular necrosis compared to the control and IMOD groups (P < 0.05). Treatment with IMOD significantly reduced the levels of urea, Cr and MDA, and increased Cr clearance and the activities of POD and CAT enzymes (P < 0.05). No significant differences in the activity of GSH and GPx were reported in the GEN + IMOD co-treated group compared to the GEN group. Moreover, IMOD significantly ameliorated PCT volume density and renal lesions caused by GEN. Conclusion: IMOD (20 mg/kg body weight) can attenuate GEN-induced nephrotoxicity in rats by inhibition of oxidative stress or increasing the normal activity of antioxidant enzymes. Further studies are recommended on the effects of different doses of IMOD.Article Highlights: IMOD can significantly reduce serum MDA and improve activity of antioxidant enzymes POD and CAT in the kidney of rats with GEN-induced nephrotoxicity; IMOD can improve renal function and histopathological variables in rats with GEN-induced nephrotoxicity; Although IMOD can attenuate the nephrotoxicity caused by GEN, it cannot return kidney function to normal level. Due to its high rates of both mortality and morbidity, cancer stands as the primary cause of death globally. The examination of histopathological images plays a crucial role in the early prediction of cancer, relying on manual practices for each individual affected. However, this phase is prone to errors, time-consuming, and doesn't facilitate early-stage decision-making for pathologists. Despite significant advancements in computer-aided image processing, the analysis of histopathological morphology remains challenging due to the intricate nature of these images. Moreover, limited annotations restrict sample analysis. This work focuses on developing efficient deep-learning methods to analyze histopathological images by considering both global and local features. It involves the analysis of image patches and features to address issues related to image annotations. A unique task-specific slicing model, integrated with the convolutional network model (ts-CNN) is proposed. This framework aims to conduct patch-level feature examination and combine multiple samples to achieve the necessary outcomes for classification. The envisioned model aims to rectify inefficiencies present in various existing approaches. Using MATLAB 2020a, the proposed model was employed to classify cancer-based histopathological images, demonstrating superior predictive performance. It assisted pathologists in early cancer prediction with an accuracy of 98.2 % and aided in decision-making processes, offering promising results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Splenic cyst is a rare entity with very few cases reported in literature. The diagnosis is usually incidental on autopsy, associated with symptoms due to enlargement, rupture, infection, or hemorrhage. It can be of two types - parasitic or nonparasitic cyst. Case Report: Postmortem viscera of 33 year old male were received in the department of Pathology for histopathological examination. Grossly, an enlarged spleen weighing 180 gm and measuring 9x8x6 cm was identified. On cut section, an eccentric unilocular cyst measuring 7x6 cm was identified. The cyst was filled with brownish mucoid material and thickness of cyst wall was0.1-0.2 cm. Microscopically, the cyst wall was lined by cuboidal epithelium with fibrocalcified wall. Conclusion: Primary splenic cyst is a rare diagnosis. Although the diagnosis of splenic cyst can be established by radiological means, histopathology is mandatory to determine whether the cyst is primary or secondary in origin. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
