To the best of our knowledge, thus far there are no reported cases of melanotic neuroectodermal tumor of infancy (MNTI) with multiple complications. In this case report, we describe the clinical phenotype of MNTI in a 9-month-old female infant associated with tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), a congenital heart defect, and congenital hypothyroidism (CH). Our study showed that the growth of MNTI was delayed by a lower dosage of levothyroxine (L-T4) that was prescribed to treat CH because of the presence of TOF, a severe congenital heart disease. However, the standardized dosage of L-T4 improved thyroid function but stimulated the rapid growth of MNTI. Our report demonstrated that treatment with L-T4 affects the progression of MNTI. Our findings demonstrated the role of thyroid hormone in MNTI growth and progression. Furthermore, our study suggested that the treatment of co-morbidities in children with MNTI requires careful consideration of their effects on the growth and progression of MNTI.

The study aimed to characterize physicochemical, thermal, and rheological properties of cashew nut starch (CNS) and then compare the obtained results with the properties of potato and corn starches. CNS showed higher gelatinization temperatures (112.29 °C) than those noted for potato and maize starches (78.44–94.65 °C). In addition, CNS had higher peak viscosity (19.03 mPa·s) than high amylose corn starch. The static shear rheological test indicated that the CNS followed a pseudoplastic behavior. In addition, CNS sample showed a thixotropic patter, which was less pronounced than that observed for potato starch, but higher than the value reported for high amylose corn starch. These results demonstrated that the shear resistance of CNS was lower than high amylose corn starch, but higher than potato starch. The storage and loss modulus (G' and G“, respectively) of the CNS were higher than those reported for the rest of samples. In this line, elastic properties were predominant in CNS sample. In conclusion, results from this study provided insight into physicochemical and structural properties of cashew nut starch, which could represent a preliminary step for its future application in food processing.

The complex pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) leads to a limited therapeutic effect; therefore, the combination of multiple bioactive ingredients may be more effective in improving AD due to synergistic effects. Based on the perspective of the sea–land combination, the effects of sea-derived Antarctic krill oil (AKO) combined with land-derived nobiletin (Nob) and L-theanine (The) on memory loss and cognitive deficiency were studied in senescence-accelerated prone 8 mice (SAMP8). The results demonstrated that AKO combined with The significantly increased the number of platform crossings in the Morris water maze test by 1.6-fold, and AKO combined with Nob significantly increased the preference index in a novel object recognition test. AKO exhibited synergistic effects with Nob and The in ameliorating recognition memory and spatial memory deficiency in SAMP8 mice, respectively. Further research of the mechanism indicated that AKO exhibited synergistic effects with Nob in suppressing β-amyloid (Aβ) aggregation, neurofibrillary tangles, and apoptosis and neuroinflammation, while the synergistic effects of AKO and The involved in synaptic plasticity and anti-neuroinflammation, which revealed that the combination was complex, not a mechanical addition. These findings revealed that the sea–land combination may be an effective strategy to treat and alleviate AD.

Abstract Background Considering the high morbidity and mortality of lung cancer and the high incidence of pulmonary nodules, clearly distinguishing benign from malignant lung nodules at an early stage is of great significance. However, determining the kind of lung nodule which is more prone to lung cancer remains a problem worldwide. Methods A total of 480 patients with pulmonary nodule data were collected from Shandong, China. We assessed the clinical characteristics and computed tomography (CT) imaging features among pulmonary nodules in patients who had undergone video‐assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) lobectomy from 2013 to 2018. Preliminary selection of features was based on a statistical analysis using SPSS. We used WEKA to assess the machine learning models using its multiple algorithms and selected the best decision tree model using its optimization algorithm. Results The combination of decision tree and logistics regression optimized the decision tree without affecting its AUC. The decision tree structure showed that lobulation was the most important feature, followed by spiculation, vessel convergence sign, nodule type, satellite nodule, nodule size and age of patient. Conclusions Our study shows that decision tree analyses can be applied to screen individuals for early lung cancer with CT. Our decision tree provides a new way to help clinicians establish a logical diagnosis by a stepwise progression method, but still needs to be validated for prospective trials in a larger patient population.

Highlights The objective of this study is to examine the influence of Z‐pin implantation parameters on the load‐bearing effectiveness of single lap joints reinforced with Z‐pins. This study explores the effect of Z‐pin implantation parameters on the load‐bearing performance of the joint. Concurrently, a finite element simulation is employed to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the stress distribution and failure mode of the joint throughout the damage process. Furthermore, high‐temperature tensile tests were conducted to evaluate the impact of temperature on the Z‐pin reinforcement mechanism. The findings demonstrated that Z‐pin reinforcement markedly augmented the peel resistance at the joint extremities, thereby postponing the inception of fissures. The maximum shear stress at the joint end exhibited a 4.81‐fold increase. During the loading process, the presence of Z‐pins effectively impeded the propagation of cracks, thereby enhancing the load‐carrying capacity of the joint. The reinforcement effect of Z‐pins exhibited variability with respect to the implantation area, with a maximum increase of 41.6%. The load capacity of the joint reached 2.51 kN/g per unit mass. However, as the temperature increased, Z‐pin pull‐out occurred, leading to a reduction in reinforcement efficiency. At high temperatures, frictional forces during Z‐pin pull‐out became the primary mechanism for dissipating crack propagation energy. These findings provide valuable insights into optimizing Z‐pin reinforcement strategies for enhancing the mechanical performance of composite joints, particularly under varying thermal conditions. Stilt houses are extremely adaptable to terrain and climate. However, current indoor thermal environment research in transitional seasons is not prominent. Therefore, in this research, a typical stilt house in southwest China was chosen as the research object and analyzed by combining Climate Consultant climate analysis software and field measurement data. The results showed that the indoor thermal stability of a stilt house was excellent during the transition season, and the attic had the most obvious climate regulation, with the maximum temperature difference between indoors and outdoors being 9 °C when the outdoor temperature was the highest. The difference between the mean radiant temperature and the average air temperature was only 0.04 °C, and the radiant effect of the enclosure on the interior was small. The indoor relative humidity ranged from 63.2% to 85.1%, showing high relative humidity, but the fluctuation was relatively stable. Stilt floors did not play a significant role in climate regulation during the transition season, and the semi-open space structure was more prone to moisture accumulation when the outdoor humidity was high. Regarding practical application, the climate adaptation strategies of shading, cooling, and dehumidification were applied in the transition season, but dehumidification was ineffective. Chemokines are integral components of the immune system and deeply involved in the pathogenesis and progression of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and colorectal cancer (CRC). Although a considerable amount of transcriptome data has been accumulated on these diseases, most of them are limited to a specific stage of the disease. The purpose of this study is to visually demonstrate the dynamic changes in chemokines across various stages of bowel diseases by integrating relevant datasets. Integrating the existing datasets for IBD and CRC, we compare the expression changes of chemokines across different pathological stages. This study collected 11 clinical databases from various medical centers around the world. Patients: Data of patient tissue types were classified into IBD, colorectal adenoma, primary carcinoma, metastasis, and healthy control according to the publisher's annotation. The expression changes in chemokines in various pathological stages are statistically analyzed. The chemokines were clustered by different expression patterns. The chemokine family was clustered into four distinct expression patterns, which correspond to varying expression changes in different stages of colitis and tumor development. Certain chemokines and receptors associated with inflammation and tumorigenesis have been identified. Furthermore, it was confirmed that the 2,4,6-trinitrobenzenesulfonic acid (TNBS)-induced colitis model and the azoxymethane (AOM)/ dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colon cancer model shows stronger correlations with the clinical data in terms of chemokine expression levels. This study paints a panoramic picture of the expression profiles of chemokine families at multiple stages from IBD to advanced colon cancer, facilitating a comprehensive understanding of the regulation patterns of chemokines and guiding the direction of drug development. The Huixian Wetland is a natural ecosystem of immense ecological value, providing crucial ecosystem services such as water purification, water regulation, and a habitat for the region's flora and fauna. Its karst peak forest landforms and surrounding environment also possess unique ecological and landscape value. However, with the ongoing socioeconomic development, including the rise of industrial, agricultural, and aquaculture activities in the wetland area, the nutrient composition of the Huixian Wetland has been altered. This paper reviews the current status of nitrogen, phosphorus, heavy metals, emerging pollutants, and biodiversity in various environmental media of the Huixian Wetland. It synthesizes the literature to identify the factors influencing these changes and projects future research directions for the wetland. Simple Summary: Epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) plays a critical role in cancer progression, contributing to the invasive and migratory abilities of tumor cells. In this study, we show that FBXO11 promotes the degradation of ZEB1, a key EMT regulator, via ubiquitination. Loss of FBXO11 increases ZEB1 levels, enhancing the invasiveness of lung cancer cells, while its overexpression reduces ZEB1 and suppresses invasion. Importantly, higher FBXO11 expression is associated with better prognosis in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), highlighting its potential role as a therapeutic target for controlling EMT and cancer metastasis. Epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) affects the invasion and migration of cancer cells. Here, we show that FBXO11 recognizes and promotes ubiquitin-mediated degradation of ZEB1. There is a strong association between FBXO11 and ZEB1 in non-small cell lung cancer (NSLC) in a clinical database. FBXO11 interacts with ZEB1, a core inducer of EMT. FBXO11 leads to increased ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation of ZEB1. Depletion of endogenous FBXO11 causes ZEB1 protein accumulation and EMT in A549 and H1299 cells, while overexpression of FBXO11 reduces ZEB1 protein abundance and cellular invasiveness. Importantly, the depletion of ZEB1 suppresses the increased migration and invasion of A549 and H1299 cells promoted by the depletion of FBXO11. The same results are shown in xenograft tumors. High FBXO11 expression is associated with a favorable prognosis in NSLC. Collectively, our study demonstrates that FBXO11 modulates EMT by mediating the stability of ZEB1 in lung cancer cells. The Yellow River holds significant developmental and historical importance for China. Over the past decade, there has been a growing recognition of the river basin's complexity as a hydrological, ecological, economic, political, and social system. Therefore, analyzing its research hotspots and trends helps to anticipate future research directions. This study utilized bibliometric software (such as VOSviewer and CiteSpace) to analyze the articles and research trends related to the ecological environment of the Yellow River Basin over the past 11 years (2014–2024). The results indicate that a total of 2096 articles have been published on this topic, with an almost annual increase in publications. Keyword co-occurrence and clustering network analysis indicate that the middle and lower reaches of the Loess Plateau, the delta, and the water quality and flow changes in the Yellow River Basin have been long-term research focuses. Climate change plays a dominant role in Yellow River runoff variation. In recent years, water quality has steadily improved, although delta erosion issues remain unresolved. Research on the sustainable development and ecosystem services of the Yellow River Basin has become a recent trend. With continuous policy development, refinement, and advancements in research, significant progress has been made in enhancing ecosystem services and achieving sustainable development in the Yellow River Basin. Regarding international collaboration, China, the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Germany rank among the top five, with the most intensive collaborations occurring between China and the US, the UK, and Germany. ObjectiveTo investigate the prevalence and drug resistance of Staphylococcus aureus in pig slaughterhouse in He'nan Province.MethodsSamples of nasal swabs and body surface swabs under different conditions, along with scalding water and air samples were collected, and were then cultured and inspected for Staphylococcus aureus isolation, through a procedure based on the national standard GB 4789.10-2016. Drug resistance of the staphylococcal isolates were tested by means of microbroth dilution method, following the antimicrobial susceptibility test standard of the American Institute of Clinical and Laboratory (CLSI) standards.ResultsThe result showed that 96 strains of Staphylococcus aureus were isolated from 625 samples, accounting for 15.36%, among which the most positive ones were from samples of pigs to be slaughtered(33.00%, 33/100), electronarcosis(25.83%, 31/120) and decapitation(22.00%, 22/100), while isolation rates were fairly low or even null in samples from depilation body surface, chilling body surface, split half body surface, air and water processes. The drug resistance result indicated that all the 96 Staphylococcal aureus strains presented resistance to the 8 kinds of test antimicrobials, especially florfenicol(98.96%, 95/96). Almost all the strains (96.88%, 93/96) showed multiple resistance to chloramphenicol, macrolides, lactams, lincoamines and other antimicrobials, and isolates resistant to all 7 kinds of tested drugs as accounted for 34.38% (33/96), and those resistant to 5 or plus drugs 76.04%(73/96).ConclusionThere are different degrees of Staphylococcus aureus contamination in some slaughterhouses in He'nan Province, in which the pollution in waiting for slaughtering, hemp electricity and decapitation is more serious, which should be paid more attention. The overall drug resistance of Staphylococcus aureus isolates is serious, and there is a common phenomenon of multiple drug resistance, so the relevant departments need to strengthen the supervision of the use of antibiotics.

Objectives To investigate the independent and collective impact of alcohol drinking and tobacco smoking on the drug-resistance of newly diagnosed tuberculosis (TB).Design This was a retrospective cohort study.Setting Shandong, China.Participants Patients with newly diagnosed TB from 1 January 2004 to 31 December 2020 were collected. Exclusive criteria: retreated cases; extrapulmonary tuberculosis; without information on drug susceptibility testing results, smoking or drinking habits; bacteriological identification as non-tuberculous mycobacteria.Primary and secondary outcome measures Patients were classified into four groups including smokers only (G1), drinker only (G2), smoker +drinker (G3), non-smoker +non-drinker group (G0). We described the drug-resistant profiles, clinical factors and calculated the ORs of different drug-resistance among G1, G2, G3, compared with G0 through univariate and multivariate logistics regression models.Results Of the 7996 TB cases enrolled, the proportions of G1, G2, G3 and G0 were 8.25%, 3.89%, 16.46% and 71.40%, respectively. The rates of drug-resistant (DR)-TB, mono-resistant TB, multidrug resistant (MDR)-TB, polydrug resistant TB in G1, G2, G3 and G0 were 19.24%/16.4%/17.33%/19.08%, 11.52%/8.68%/10.94%/11.63%, 3.03%/2.57%/2.96%/3.66% and 4.70%/4.82%/3.34%/ 4.08%, respectively. G3 had a higher risk of MDR1: isoniazid +rifampin (adjusted OR (aOR)=1.91, 95% CI: 1.036 to 3.532), but had a lower risk of DR-TB (aOR=0.84, 95% CI: 0.71 to 0.99), rifampin-related resistance (aOR=0.68, 95% CI: 0.49 to 0.93), streptomycin-related resistance (aOR=0.82, 95% CI: 0.68 to 0.99), ethambutol-related resistance (aOR=0.57, 95% CI: 0.34 to 0.95), MDR3: isoniazid +rifampin+streptomycin (aOR=0.41, 95% CI: 0.19 to 0.85), any isoniazid +streptomycin resistance (aOR=0.85, 95% CI: 0.71 to 1.00). However, there were no significant differences between G1 and G0, G2 and G0 in all drug-resistant subtypes. Those patients with cavity had a higher risk of DR-TB among G3 (OR=1.35, 95% CI: 1.01 to 1.81).Conclusion Although we did not found an independent impact of alcohol drinking or tobacco smoking on TB drug-resistance, respectively, these two habits had a combined effect on TB drug-resistance.
