This paper is concerned with the existence of periodic solutions for a class of second order impulsive Hamiltonian systems. By employing the least action principle and the Saddle Point Theorem, We obtain sufficient conditions for existence of periodic solutions, which generalized and improve those in the literature. Six new neutral crystalline clusters Zn8S(SC6H5)14L2[L = pyridyl (1), 3-(phenylthio)pyridyl (2), 4-(phenylthio)pyridyl (3), 3-iodopyridyl (4), 3-butylpyridyl (5), and phenanthridyl (6)] with Zn8S cores have been assembled by a hydrothermal process. Exceptionally, in situ ligand reactions have been observed in clusters 2and 3. There are no detectable fluorescence emissions of complexes 1−5, whereas 6shows an emission peak at 365 nm due to the existence of terminal phenanthridyl ligands. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract  The gene encoding malate dehydrogenase (MDH) was overexpressed in a pflB ldhA double mutant of Escherichia coli, NZN111, for succinic acid production. With MDH overexpression, NZN111/pTrc99A-mdh restored the ability to metabolize glucose anaerobically and 0.55 g/L of succinic acid was produced from 3 g/L of glucose in shake flask culture. When supplied with 10 g/L of sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3), the succinic acid yield of NZN111/pTrc99A-mdh reached 1.14 mol/mol glucose. Supply of NaHCO3 also improved succinic acid production by the control strain, NZN111/pTrc99A. Measurement of key enzymes activities revealed that phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP) carboxykinase and PEP carboxylase in addition to MDH played important roles. Two-stage culture of NZN111/pTrc99A-mdh was carried out in a 5-L bioreactor and 12.2 g/L of succinic acid were produced from 15.6 g/L of glucose. Fed-batch culture was also performed, and the succinic acid concentration reached 31.9 g/L with a yield of 1.19 mol/mol glucose. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The structures of salts containing the ferrocenemonosulfonate anion and a range of nitrogen base cations are reported. It is found that electrostatic interactions, sometimes enhanced by hydrogen bonds, generally lead to layer-type structures with the sulfonate group playing a key role in the association with the cations. The structure directing influence of a variety of hydrogen-bonding cations on the arrangement of ferrocene mono- and di-sulfonate anions within the crystalline state is reported. The crystal structures of four different networks of composition A[Fe(?5-C5H5)(?5-C5H4SO3)] (A = imidazolium or N-methylimidazolium) and B2[Fe(?5-C5H4SO3)2] (B = imidazolium or pyridinium) are presented. The imidazolium ions are able to act as hydrogen bond bridges in the generation of layer-type structures similar to those found for guanidinium analogues. Secondary bonding interactions exert a powerful structure-directing influence within these networks even though the individual interactions appear to be rather weak. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Three neutral nanoclusters Zn8S(SC6H5)14L2 [L = 3-aminopyridine (1), 4-(dimethylamino)pyridine (2), 4-methylpyridine (3)] featuring a wurtzite-like core have been assembled by a controlled one- step hydrothermal reaction. Their detailed photoluminescence properties depend upon the ligand substituents. Carbonyl iron powder (CIP) has been used as a food additive or mineral supplement. However, the effects of CIP on iron deficiency anemia (IDA) and its subchronic toxicity have not been investigated. We found that oral administration of CIP at a dose of 2.96 mg/kg recovered the hemoglobin concentration of erythrocytes of IDA rats to the normal level after 8 days. The no observed adverse effect level of CIP in rats was considered to be > 200 mg/kg. The hematological and serum biochemical parameters of the rats did not differ significantly between the control and treated groups. There were no morphological changes observed in the organs including liver, kidneys, spleen, testes, stomach and intestine. Therefore, CIP might be a safe iron supplement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this work, different processes including lactic acid bacteria fermentation, glucono-δ-lactone (GDL) coagulation and enzymatic hydrolysis were applied to produce soy cheese spread without any milk solid and/or alkaline metal caseinates added. All the soy cheese spread samples were studied with respect to the differences in the textural properties - utilizing TPA and rheological behavior, besides their microstructural features and sensory assessment. In addition, urea-SDS-PAGE assay was used to investigate the proteolysis in enzymatic hydrolysis process. As a result, the soy cheese spread sample produced by the combined use of GDL and lactic acid bacteria fermentation together with enzymatic hydrolysis process, was observed with better spread-ability, more acceptable sensory features, and stable homogeneous structure than other samples.
