Despite the initial promise of metal-on-metal (MoM) implants as the ideal bearing surface for hip replacements and resurfacings, high short term failure rates due to an adverse reaction to metal debris (ARMD) have led to a dramatic reduction in the number of MoM implants used in the modern era. With over one million patients worldwide having undergone hip operations utilizing a MoM bearing surface, the long term outcomes for such patients remains unknown, and there is much debate as to the most effective management of these patients. Although several regulatory bodies have released guidelines on the management of patients with MoM hips, these recommendations remain open to interpretation, and the most effective management for these patients remains unclear. The aim of this review is to compare the current guidelines for managing patients with MoM hips and also to discuss established ARMD risk factors, evidence regarding the optimum management for patients with MoM hips, and the indications for revision surgery. Furthermore, although specialized laboratory tests and imaging can be used to facilitate clinical decision making, over-reliance on any single tool should be avoided in the decision making process, and surgeons should carefully consider all findings when determining the most appropriate course of action.

Missing data is a pervasive issue in epidemiological, clinical, social, and economic studies. This presentation offers a brief overview of the conceptual issues raised by missing data, followed by an overview of some of the principled statistical methods of handling missing data that are implemented in Stata 12, including multiple imputation and inverse probability weighting.

FPGAs provide an ideal template for run-time reconfigurable (RTR) designs. Only recently have RTR enabling design tools that bypass the traditional synthesis and bitstream generation process for FPGAs become available. The JBits tool suite is an environment that provides support for RTR designs on Xilinx Virtex and 4K devices. This research provides a comprehensive design process description of a two-dimensional discrete wavelet transform (DWT) core using the JBits run-time reconfigurable FPGA design tool suite. Several aspects of the design process are discussed, including implementation, simulation, debugging, and hardware interfacing to a reconfigurable computing platform. The DWT lends itself to a straightforward implementation in hardware, requiring relatively simple logic for control and address generation circuitry. Through the application of RTR techniques to the DWT, this research attempts to exploit certain advantages that are unobtainable with static implementations. Prior to a. survey of the southern Galactic plane with the Molonglo Observatory Synthesis Telescope (MOST), no large-scale radio survey had ever been conducted of this part of the plane at sub-arcminute resolution. The MOST, operating in the continuum at 843 MHz with a resolution of 43", has been involved in a survey of the southern plane since 1983. With over 600 one deg2 fields having now been observed, the survey is revealing the plane in unprecedented detail and sensitivity to faint structure. This thesis is a. study of the content of these fields, being divided into three complementary parts: the compact source population, the extended thermal population, and the extended non-thermal population. International audience; Measuring the magnitude of reduction in HIV‐1 RNA levels accurately is difficult because many patients have a censored reduction due to the limit of detection (LOD) of the virologic assay being employed. The use of censored methods has improved the analysis of such reductions compared with crude methods but implies independent censoring. For HIV‐1 RNA reduction data, the value at which a patient's HIV‐1 RNA reduction becomes censored is mainly determined by the patient's baseline HIV‐1 RNA level. We suggest two possibilities based on modification of the redistribution to the right algorithm to handle the situation of dependence either from a single continuous marker, that is, the baseline HIV‐1 RNA level, or from multiple markers. Two series of simulation, one in the HIV‐1 RNA setting and one in the classical censoring setting, compared performance of the previous methods with our suggestions. Our proposed estimators show good performances when the dependent censoring is due to LOD. Overall, in the classical censoring setting, our suggestions perform as well as other methods including the Inverse Probability of Censoring Weighted and the Kaplan‐Meier imputation with Bootstrap. We applied those estimators to estimate the HIV‐1 RNA reduction at week 8 of 502 patients who received a raltegravir‐containing regimen and to data from the Mayo Clinic trial in primary biliary cirrhosis.
