The Bayesian evidence is a key tool in model selection, allowing a comparison of models with different numbers of parameters. Its use in analysis of cosmological models has been limited by difficulties in calculating it, with current numerical algorithms requiring supercomputers. In this paper we give exact formulae for the Bayesian evidence in the case of Gaussian likelihoods with arbitrary correlations and top-hat priors, and approximate formulae for the case of likelihood distributions with leading non-Gaussianities (skewness and kurtosis). We apply these formulae to cosmological models with and without isocurvature components, and compare with results we previously obtained using numerical thermodynamic integration. We find that the results are of lower precision than the thermodynamic integration, while still being good enough to be useful., Useful mathematical expressions for the computation of Bayesian evidence which I now think may be worth making them public

Fridericia chica (Bignoniaceae) is a Colombian Caribbean plant with numerous health benefits, including properties such as wound healing, immune system stimulation, and antioxidant capacity, among others. Mycotoxins alpha-zearalenol (α-ZEL) and beta-zearalenol (β-ZEL) are phase I metabolites of zearalenone, a natural product involved in endocrine disruption and cell proliferation processes. This study aimed to investigate the cytotoxic potential of the hydroethanolic extract of F. chica leaves (HEFc) and determine their protective effects against proliferation induced by α-ZEL and β-ZEL on human hepatoma HepG2, lung cancer Calu-1, and primary normal human epidermal keratinocytes, neonatal (HEKn). The cytotoxicity of HEFc was measured in a range from 4 to 1000 µg/mL and from 0.4 to 100 μM for both α-ZEL and β-ZEL. Cell production of intracellular ROS was monitored using the H2-DCFDA probe. The cells exposed to HEFc presented IC50 of 128, 249, and 602 µg/mL for the HepG2, Calu-1, and HEKn cells, respectively. A greater selectivity was seen in HepG2 cells [selectivity index (SI) = 3.5] than in Calu-1 cells (SI = 2.4). Cells treated with mycotoxins remained viable during the first day, and cell proliferation increased at low tested concentrations (0.4-6.3 µM) in all three cell lines. However, after 48 h treatment, cells exposed to 50 and 100 µM of α-ZEL and β-ZEL displayed decreased viability. HEFc at 16 µg/mL was able to give some protection against cytotoxicity induced by high concentrations of β-ZEL in HepG2, reducing also cell proliferation elicited at low levels of α-ZEL and β-ZEL. ROS production was not observed in cells treated with this HEFc concentration; however, it prevented ROS formation induced by treatment with 50 µM α-ZEL or β-ZEL. In summary, HEFc isolated from plants grown in northern Colombia displayed promising results against cell proliferation and oxidative stress caused by mycotoxins.

The robots automatically retarget their optical fibers every 10–20 minutes, each to a precision of several microns, with a reconfiguration time of fewer than 2 minutes. Over the next 5 yr, they will enable the newly constructed Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) to measure the spectra of 35 million galaxies and quasars. DESI will produce the largest 3D map of the universe to date and measure the expansion history of the cosmos. In addition to the 5020 robotic positioners and optical fibers, DESI's Focal Plane System includes six guide cameras, four wave front cameras, 123 fiducial point sources, and a metrology camera mounted at the primary mirror. The system also includes associated structural, thermal, and electrical systems. In all, it contains over 675,000 individual parts. We discuss the design, construction, quality control, and integration of all these components. We include a summary of the key requirements, the review and acceptance process, on-sky validations of requirements, and lessons learned for future multiobject, fiber-fed spectrographs. © 2022. Shyness, the tendency to be inhibited and uncomfortable in novel social situations, is a consequential personality trait, especially during adolescence. The present study examined the development of shyness from late childhood (age 10) through adolescence (age 16) using data from a large, longitudinal study of Mexican-origin youth ( N = 674). Using both self- and mother-reports of shyness assessed via the Early Adolescent Temperament Questionnaire–Revised, we found moderate to high rank-order stabilities across 2-year intervals and a mean-level decrease in shyness from age 10 to 16. Anxiety and depression were associated with higher initial levels of shyness, and anxiety was associated with greater decreases in shyness from age 10 to 16. Contrary to predictions, neither nativity (country of birth) nor language proficiency (English, Spanish) was associated with the development of shyness across adolescence. Thus, youth generally decline in shyness during adolescence, although there is substantial individual variability in shyness trajectories.

PURPOSE We present a DVH overlay technique as a quality assurance (QA) metric for deformable image registration-based dose accumulation (DIR-DA). We use the technique to estimate the uncertainty in a DIR-DA for a revised treatment plan, and to compare two different DIR algorithms. MATERIALS AND METHODS The required inputs to the DVH overlay workflow are deformably registered primary and secondary images, primary regions-of-interest (ROIs), and secondary dose distribution. The primary ROIs were forward warped to the secondary image, the secondary dose was inversely warped to the primary image, and the DVHs for each image were compiled. Congruent DVHs imply minimal inverse consistency error (ICE) within an ROI. For a pancreas case re-planned after 21 fractions of a 29-fraction course, the workflow was used to quantify dose accumulation error attributable to ICE, based on a hybrid contour-and-intensity-based DIR. The usefulness of the workflow was further demonstrated by assessing the performance of two DIR algorithms (one free-form intensity-based, FFIB, the other using normalized correlation coefficients, NCC, over small neighborhood patches) as applied toward kVCT-to-MVCT registration and five-fraction dose accumulation of ten male pelvis cases. RESULTS For the re-planned pancreas case, when applying the DVH-overlay-based uncertainties the resulting accumulated dose remained compliant with all but two of the original plan objectives. Among the male pelvis cases, FFIB and NCC DIR showed good invertibility within the PTV, according to the DVH overlay QA results. NCC DIR exhibited better invertibility for the bladder and rectum compared with FFIB. However, compared with FFIB, NCC DIR exhibited less regional deformation for the bladder and a tendency for increased local contraction of the rectum ROI. For the five-fraction summations, ICE for the PTV V100%Rx is comparable for both algorithms (FFIB 0.8±0.7%, NCC 0.7±0.3%). For the bladder and rectum V70%Rx , ICE is greater for FFIB (1.8±0.7% for bladder, 1.7±0.6% for rectum) than for NCC (1.0±0.3% for bladder, 1.0±0.4% for rectum). CONCLUSIONS The DVH overlay technique identified instances in which a DIR exhibits favorable invertibility, implying low inverse consistency error in a DIR-based dose accumulation. Differences in the overlaid DVHs can also estimate dose accumulation errors attributable to ICE for given ROIs. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

As a part of a collaborative effort with CERN on the long road to FCC-hh, CEA is developing a 1.4 m-long single aperture short dipole demonstrator. This Nb3Sn block dipole, named F2D2, is foreseen to produce 15.5 T with a 14% margin at 1.9 K, and will use a shell-based support structure. In order to be compact, this magnet relies on the use of different cable grades in each coil. Among the milestones in this project, a single-layer graded racetrack dipole will be constructed in order to demonstrate grading in a simplified geometry while preserving key features of F2D2. This magnet, named Research Racetrack Dipole Demonstrator (R2D2), will permit the mastering of the fabrication methods foreseen for F2D2 and to confirm the behavior of Nb3Sn cables representative of FCC. It should also validate some key technological aspects: compactness, operation at high-current (up to 16 kA), intermediate magnetic field (in the range of 11-12 T), and quench protection at very high energy/unit length (up to 650 kJ/m, corresponding to 168 MJ/m3).

Gatti, M., et al. (DES Collaboration), We present and characterize the galaxy shape catalogue from the first 3 yr of Dark Energy Survey (DES) observations, over an effective area of 4143 deg2 of the southern sky. We describe our data analysis process and our self-calibrating shear measurement pipeline metacalibration, which builds and improves upon the pipeline used in the DES Year 1 analysis in several aspects. The DES Year 3 weak-lensing shape catalogue consists of 100 204 026 galaxies, measured in the riz bands, resulting in a weighted source number density of neff = 5.59 gal arcmin-2 and corresponding shape noise σe = 0.261. We perform a battery of internal null tests on the catalogue, including tests on systematics related to the point spread function (PSF) modelling, spurious catalogue B-mode signals, catalogue contamination, and galaxy properties., Based in part on observations at Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory at NSF’s NOIRLab (NOIRLab Prop.
