Concepts studies of new sounder system for the planetary exploration have been performed based on KAGUYA (SELENE: SELenological and ENgineering Explorer)/LRS (Lunar Radar Sounder) specification. In order to achieve high S/N sounder observation with limited power consumption, following four developments will be needed: (a) Efficiency of the power amplifier should be improved by applying class-D/E amplification technique. (b) Transmission rate should be increased in order to apply Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) analysis. (c) Light-weight Yagi antenna system should be developed by applying inflatable structure technique. (d) Ionospheric TEC (Total Electron Content) effects should be cancelled by modulating reference signal for mixing with received signal. International audience; A one-dimensional full-particle model of the Martian upper thermosphere-exosphere has been developed, where the Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method is applied to both thermal and non-thermal components. Our full-particle model can self-consistently solve the transition from collisional to collisionless domains in the upper thermosphere, so that the energy deposition from non-thermal energetic components to thermal components in the transition region is properly described. For the solar EUV condition during the Viking-1 measurement (1 EUV case), computed density profiles are in good agreement with those observed by Viking 1 and with the conventional model. For a solar EUV flux six times the Viking-1 condition (6 EUV case), the computed heating efficiency is essentially the same as 1 EUV case but slightly increases by about 10 % below the exobase, and temperature deviates from the conventional model in and above the transition region. This result suggests that the conventional heating efficiency of 0.18 is a good approximation for low (1 EUV case) to moderately strong (6 EUV case) solar EUV conditions but would be inappropriate for an extremely strong solar EUV (up to ~100 times stronger flux) environment. We also find that applying different models of the CO2-O collisional energy transfer rate results in a difference in the calculated exobase temperature by 150 K for 6 EUV case.

We investigate mesospheric CO2 ice clouds on Mars detected by the Planetary Fourier Spectrometer (PFS) onboard Mars Express (MEx). The relatively high spectral resolution of PFS allows firm identification of the clouds' reflection spike. A total of 279 occurrences of the CO2 ice clouds features has been detected at the bottom of 4.3 μm CO2 band from the MEx/PFS data during the period from MY27 to MY32. 115 occurrences out of them are also confirmed by simultaneous observations by MEx/OMEGA imaging spectrometer. The spatial and seasonal distributions of the CO2 ice clouds observed by PFS are consistent with the previous studies: the CO2 ice clouds are only observed between Ls=0° and 140° at distinct longitudinal corridors around the equatorial region (±20°N). The CO2 ice clouds are preferentially detected at local time between 15-17h. The relatively high spectral resolution of PFS allows us to investigate the spectral shape of the CO2 ice clouds features. The CO2 ice clouds reflection spike is peaked between 4.24 and 4.29 μm, with no evidence of the secondary peak at 4.32-4.34 μm observed by MEx/OMEGA (Määttänen et al., 2010). In most of the cases (about 75%), the peak is present between 4.245 and 4.255 μm. Moreover, small secondary peaks are found around 4.28 μm (about 15 occurrences). These spectral features cannot be reproduced by the synthetic spectra with the assumption of a spherical particle shape in our radiative transfer model (DISORT). This can be due to the fact that the available CO2 ice reflective indexes are either inaccurate or inappropriate for the mesospheric temperatures, or that the particle shape is not spherical. Accurate measurements of the reflective index depending on temperature and detailed comparison with the model taking into account non-spherical shapes will give a clue to solve this issue.

We have analysed thermal emission spectra obtained from Planetary Fourier Spectrometer (PFS) onboard Mars Express (MEX) for Martian Year (MY) 28 in presence and absence of dust storm at low latitude. A radiative transfer model for dusty atmosphere of Mars is developed to estimate the thermal emission spectra at latitude range 0-10oS, 10-20oS and 20-30oS. These calculations are made at Ls=240o, 280o, 300o, and 320o between wave numbers 250-1400 cm-1. We have also retrieved brightness temperatures from thermal emission spectra by inverting the Planck function. The model reproduces the observed features at wave numbers 600-750 cm-1 and 900-1200 cm-1 due to absorptions by CO2 and dust respectively. In presence of dust storm thermal emission spectra and brightness temperature are reduced by a factor of ~ 2 between wave numbers 900-1200 cm-1. The altitude profiles of dust concentration are also estimated for different aerosol particles of sizes 0.2 to 3 micron. The best fit to the PFS measurements is obtained in presence of aerosol particle of size 0.2 micron.

NOMAD is a suite of three spectrometers that will be launched in 2016 as part of the joint ESA-Roscosmos ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter mission. The instrument contains three channels that cover the IR and UV spectral ranges and can perform solar occultation, nadir and limb observations, to detect and map a wide variety of Martian atmospheric gases and trace species. Part I of this work described the models of the UVIS channel; in this second part, we present the optical models representing the two IR channels, SO (Solar Occultation) and LNO (Limb, Nadir and Occultation), and use them to determine signal to noise ratios (SNRs) for many expected observational cases. In solar occultation mode, both the SO and LNO channel exhibit very high SNRs >5000. SNRs of around 100 were found for the LNO channel in nadir mode, depending on the atmospheric conditions, Martian surface properties, and observation geometry., NOMAD has been made possible thanks to funding by the Belgian Science Policy Office (BELSPO) and financial and contractual coordination by the ESA Prodex Office. 'Solar-Sail Project', which has been examined by ISAS/JAXA as an engineering mission, has a possibility of a small probe into the Jovian orbit. This paper summarizes the basic design of Jovian magnetospheric and auroral studies by this small but valuable 'chance'. The small orbiter aims to establish the feasibility of future outer planet missions by JAXA. The 'a large-scale Jovian mission' has been a hope since the 1970s, when the examinations of planetary exploration were started in Japan. In the one of plans, 'the largest planet in the solar system' would be solved by two main objectives: (1) Structure of a gas planet: the internal & atmospheric structures of the giant gas planet which could not become a star (following the objectives of 'Planet-C' to Venus and 'BepiColombo' to Mercury). (2) Jovian-type magnetosphere: the structure and processes of the strongest magnetospheric activities in the solar system, as a 'pulsar-like' magnetosphere driven by its own rotational energy (following the objectives of 'BepiColombo' to Mercury and a multi-spacecraft project 'SCOPE (Spacecraft Camera experiment for Observation of Planets and the Earth)'). ERG(Energization and Radiation in Geospace)を提案している。「ジオスペース」とは、地球を表す「ジオ(geo-)」と宇宙空間を表す「スペース(space)」を組み合わせた語で、地球と強く影響を及ぼし合う宇宙空間である。このジオスペースは、宇宙に普遍的に見られる多様なプラズマ現象を、地上から多点でグローバルに観測したり、人工衛星から直接観測することが可能な「実験室」として重要な領域である。電子が相対論的エネルギーに達するまで加速される現象はその代表的なものであるが、この現象は50年代末の「放射線帯」の発見以来、未だ解明に至っていない。さらに日本のAKEBONO衛星など90年代の衛星観測は、この領域が予想外に激しい変動を示していることを明らかにし、粒子加速を含めたこれまでの考え方に再考を迫っている。また、ジオスペースは近年、「人類の新しい活動域」としての性格も強めつつある。この領域で生成される高エネルギー粒子は、宇宙機に搭載されている電子機器の動作異常や劣化、帯電・放電を引き起こし、宇宙機の機能や寿命に深刻な影響を及ぼすのみならず、人類の宇宙での長期滞在にとって大きな障害となっている。気象衛星・測地衛星・通信衛星などジオスペースを飛翔する宇宙インフラは私たちの生活に既に必須となっており、21世紀の人類にとってこの領域を深く理解することは喫緊の要請である。小型衛星ERGは、広いエネルギー範囲(eV-MeV)の粒子分布関数、磁場、電場、波動を、L=6.6Re以下の内部磁気圏赤道面において同時に観測することにより、ジオスペースを構成している放射線帯、リングカレント、プラズマシート、プラズマ圏の各領域において、粒子加速やプラズマダイナミクスの本質に迫ることができる。衛星計画ERGの詳細は、同衛星の提案書http://www2.nict.go.jp/dk/c231/im/ERG(アンダーバー)proposal(アンダーバー)final(アンダーバー)l.pdf(ただし、(アンダーバー)部分を記号のアンダーバーに変更して下さい。)にあるので、そちらを参照して頂きたい。本講演では、この提案書にあるERGの仕様に対して、その軌道、姿勢、機器配置、消費電力、データ通信量、地上運用に関して、三菱重工業・名古屋誘導推進システム製作所の小型衛星をモデルとして検討を行った結果を報告する。検討と同時に、衛星のイメージ図も得られている。, 資料番号: AA0063353042

BepiColombo計画は、JAXAが「水星磁気圏探査機・MMO(Mercury Magnetospheric Orbiter)」、ESAが「水星表面探査機・MPO(Mercury Planetary Orbiter)」を分担する初の本格的な日欧共同計画で、JAXAとESAの国際協力の中心を担う。本計画は、ESAではコーナーストーンミッションとして、JAXAでは太陽系科学探査の基幹として、いずれでも最重要ミッションの1つである。両探査機は、一体で「ソユーズ・フレガート2B」ロケットで打ち上げられ、水星到達後に分離、協力して観測活動を行う。「ベピ・コロンボ(BepiColombo)」計画は、ESAとJAXAの大型国際共同により、未知の惑星・水星の磁場・磁気圏・表層・内部を初めて多角的・総合的に観測しようとするプロジェクトである。本計画の科学的意義は、以下の2つである。(1)固有磁場と磁気圏を持つ地球型惑星は地球と水星だけである。水星の詳細探査は、「初の惑星磁場・磁気圏の詳細比較」の機会となる。「惑星の磁場・磁気圏の普遍性と特異性」の知見に大きな飛躍をもたらすことが期待される。(2)水星は、磁場の存在と関係すると見られる巨大な中心核など特異な構造と歴史を持つ。その内部・表層の全球観測は、太陽系形成、特に「地球型惑星の起源と進化」の解明に貢献することが期待される。本計画は、上記に最適化された2つの周回探査機、すなわち表面・内部の観測に最適化された水星表面探査機Mercury Planetary Orbiter[MPO:3軸制御、低高度極軌道]と、磁場・磁気圏の観測に最適化された水星磁気圏探査機Mercury Magnetospheric Orbiter[MMO:スピン制御、楕円極軌道]から構成される。JAXAは、日本の得意分野を主目標とするMMO探査機を担当する。ESAは「打ち上げ・惑星間空間の巡航・水星周回軌道への投入」およびMPO探査機を担当する。両探査機の観測装置は、日欧合同科学チームが開発・運用する。磁場や磁気圏の様子がよくわかっている惑星は地球だけである。唯一の「磁場を持つ地球以外の地球型惑星」である水星は、初めての地球との詳細比較機会を提供する。この両者の比較は、磁場/磁気圏を巡る惑星環境の更なる理解に貢献するとともに、広く宇宙に存在する様々な磁気圏の特殊性・普遍性を知る大きなステップとなる。JAXAの担当する水星磁気圏探査機Mercury Magnetospheric Orbiter[MMO]はこの解明に最適化されたもので、以下の特徴を持つ。(1)軌道:磁気圏全域をカバーするため、「夜側を包含しうる長楕円極軌道」をとる。(2)姿勢:ワイヤアンテナ展開、粒子全方位計測のため、「スピン制御」とする。(3)電磁干渉対策:精密な磁場・プラズマ計測のため、帯磁・帯電・電磁ノイズ低減を図る。磁場の存在は、半径の3/4を占める巨大な中心核を持つ水星の特異な構造に関係する。水星の特異な姿の原因は、原始太陽系星雲の最も内側で最後に固まったとされるこの天体の「初期」に遡ると考えられる。ESAの担当する水星表面探査機Mercury Planetary Orbiter[MPO]は、この解明に最適化されたもので、以下の特徴を持つ。(1)軌道:表層・内部・磁場を全球計測するため、「低高度極軌道」をとる。(2)姿勢:表層を高空間分解で計測するため、「3軸制御」とし、常時水星表面を指向する。, 資料番号: AA0063353059

2005年8月にロシア・ドニエプルロケットでピギーバック衛星として打ち上げられる予定の小型衛星「INDEX」では、今後の衛星技術開発に向けた工学試験に加え、「オーロラ微細構造の解明」を目的とした理学観測が行われる。理学ミッションは、INDEX衛星の高度610km、太陽同期軌道(0-12LT)の3軸姿勢制御という特長を生かし、極域におけるこれまでにないユニークなオーロラ観測を実施することで、未だ解明されていない微細オーロラのダイナミクスに関する新しい知見を得るというものである。この目的達成のため、INDEX衛星には理学観測機器として「多波長単色オーロラカメラ(以下MAC)」、「電子・イオンエネルギー分析器(以下ESA/ISA)」、「プラズマ電流モニター(以下CRM)」が搭載される。2003年から2004年にかけて、これらの機器の単体開発と環境試験、ならびに理学エレクトロニクス部である「理学機器制御聴データ取得ユニット(以下SHU)」や衛星システム系とのインターフェース試験が行われ、最終的にフライトモデルとして完成されたので、ここに報告する。, 資料番号: AA0049122171

The spacecraft potential has been used to derive the electron density surrounding the spacecraft in the magnetosphere and solar wind. The previous studies have examined the relationship between the spacecraft potential and the electron density in the distant tail regions and obtained an empirical formula to show their relation. However the electron density obtained by the empirical formula is often overestimated in the near tail regions with high electron temperature, In this study, we investigate the relationship between the Geotail spacecraft potential and the electron density/temperature in the near tail regions during the period from November 1994 to February 1997, and improve the empirical formula considering the electron temperature. In the Earth's magnetosphere where the spacecraft potential is usually positive, photoelectrons emitted from the spacecraft surface are attracted back to the spacecraft and some of them are detected by electron analyzer onboard. Then photoelectrons are unnecessary contamination. By analyzing such a component detected by LEP/EA-e onboard GEOTAIL spacecraft, we examined velocity/energy distribution functions of photoelectrons, and their relationship to the spacecraft potential. We found that the ratio of the duskward photoelectron flux to the dawnward flux increases when the spacecraft potential is large, and decreases when it is small. Further analysis revealed, by plotting the ratio as a function of the photoelectron energy normalized by the spacecraft potential (E/V(sub sc)), that it is the largest when E/V(sub sec) is about one third.
