201. A simple and robust methylation test for risk stratification of patients with juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia

Abstract

Juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia (JMML) is a rare myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative neoplasm that develops during infancy and early childhood. The array-based international consensus definition of DNA methylation has recently classified patients with JMML into the following 3 groups: high (HM), intermediate (IM), and low methylation (LM). To develop a simple and robust methylation clinical test, 137 patients with JMML were analyzed using the Digital Restriction Enzyme Analysis of Methylation (DREAM), which is a next-generation sequencing-based methylation analysis. Unsupervised consensus clustering of the discovery cohort (n = 99) using DREAM data identified HM (HM_DREAM; n = 35) and LM subgroups (LM_DREAM; n = 64). Of the 98 cases that could be compared with the international consensus classification, 90 HM (n = 30) and LM (n = 60) cases had 100% concordance with DREAM clustering results. Of the remaining 8 cases comprising the IM group, 4 were classified as belonging to the HM_DREAM group and 4 to the LM_DREAM group. A machine-learning classifier was successfully constructed using a support vector machine (SVM), which divided the validation cohort (n = 38) into HM (HM_SVM, n = 18) and LM (LM_SVM; n = 20) groups. Patients with the HM_SVM profile had a significantly poorer 5-year overall survival rate than those with the LM_SVM profile. In conclusion, we developed a robust methylation test using DREAM for patients with JMML. This simple and straightforward test can be easily incorporated into diagnosis to generate a methylation classification for patients so they can receive risk-adapted treatment in the context of future clinical trials.

Abstract

Ascorbic acid (AA) uptake in neurons occurs via a Na+-dependent carrier-mediated process mediated by the sodium-dependent vitamin C transporter-2 (SVCT2). Relatively little information is available concerning the network of interacting proteins that support human (h)SVCT2 trafficking and cell surface expression in neuronal cells. Here we identified the synaptogenic adhesion protein, calsyntenin-3 (CLSTN3) as an hSVCT2 interacting protein from yeast two-hybrid (Y2H) screening of a human adult brain cDNA library. This interaction was confirmed by co-immunoprecipitation, mammalian two-hybrid (M2H), and co-localization in human cell lines. Co-expression of hCLSTN3 with hSVCT2 in SH-SY5Y cells led to a marked increase in AA uptake. Reciprocally, siRNA targeting hCLSTN3 inhibited AA uptake. In the J20 mouse model of Alzheimer's disease (AD), mouse (m)SVCT2 and mCLSTN3 expression levels in hippocampus were decreased. Similarly, expression levels of hSVCT2 and hCLSTN3 were markedly decreased in hippocampal samples from AD patients. These findings establish CLSTN3 as a novel hSVCT2 interactor in neuronal cells with potential pathophysiological significance.

Abstract

We report results of a search for an isotropic gravitational-wave background (GWB) using data from Advanced LIGO's and Advanced Virgo's third observing run (O3) combined with upper limits from the earlier O1 and O2 runs. Unlike in previous observing runs in the advanced detector era, we include Virgo in the search for the GWB. The results are consistent with uncorrelated noise, and therefore we place upper limits on the strength of the GWB. We find that the dimensionless energy density $\Omega_{\rm GW}\leq 5.8\times 10^{-9}$ at the 95% credible level for a flat (frequency-independent) GWB, using a prior which is uniform in the log of the strength of the GWB, with 99% of the sensitivity coming from the band 20-76.6 Hz; $\leq 3.4 \times 10^{-9}$ at 25 Hz for a power-law GWB with a spectral index of 2/3 (consistent with expectations for compact binary coalescences), in the band 20-90.6 Hz; and $\leq 3.9 \times 10^{-10}$ at 25 Hz for a spectral index of 3, in the band 20-291.6 Hz. These upper limits improve over our previous results by a factor of 6.0 for a flat GWB. We also search for a GWB arising from scalar and vector modes, which are predicted by alternative theories of gravity; we place upper limits on the strength of GWBs with these polarizations. We demonstrate that there is no evidence of correlated noise of magnetic origin by performing a Bayesian analysis that allows for the presence of both a GWB and an effective magnetic background arising from geophysical Schumann resonances. We compare our upper limits to a fiducial model for the GWB from the merger of compact binaries. Finally, we combine our results with observations of individual mergers andshow that, at design sensitivity, this joint approach may yield stronger constraints on the merger rate of binary black holes at $z \lesssim 2$ than can be achieved with individually resolved mergers alone. Abstract

We search for gravitational-wave signals produced by cosmic strings in the Advanced LIGO and Virgo full O3 data set. Search results are presented for gravitational waves produced by cosmic string loop features such as cusps, kinks and, for the first time, kink-kink collisions.cA template-based search for short-duration transient signals does not yield a detection. We also use the stochastic gravitational-wave background energy density upper limits derived from the O3 data to constrain the cosmic string tension, $G\mu$, as a function of the number of kinks, or the number of cusps, for two cosmic string loop distribution models.cAdditionally, we develop and test a third model which interpolates between these two models. Our results improve upon the previous LIGO-Virgo constraints on $G\mu$ by one to two orders of magnitude depending on the model which is tested. In particular, for one loop distribution model, we set the most competitive constraints to date, $G\mu\lesssim 4\times 10^{-15}$., Comment: 20 pages, 10 figures

Abstract

Abstract Background Rapid and accurate diagnosis of individuals with SARS-CoV-2 infection is an effective way to prevent and control the spread of COVID-19. Although the detection of SARS‐CoV‐2 viral RNA by RT‐qPCR is the gold standard for COVID-19 testing, the use of antigen-detecting rapid diagnostic tests (Ag-RDTs) is emerging as a complementary surveillance tool as Omicron case numbers skyrocket worldwide. However, the results from Ag-RDTs are less accurate in individuals with low viral loads. Results To develop a highly sensitive and accurate Ag-RDT, 90 monoclonal antibodies were raised from guinea pigs immunized with SARS CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein (CoV-2-NP). By applying a capture antibody recognizing the structural epitope of the N-terminal domain of CoV-2-NP and a detection antibody recognizing the C-terminal tail of CoV-2-NP to an automated chemiluminescence flow-through membrane immunoassay device, we developed a novel Ag-RDT, CoV-2-POCube. The CoV-2-POCube exclusively recognizes CoV-2-NP variants but not the nucleocapsid proteins of other human coronaviruses. The CoV-2-POCube achieved a limit of detection sensitivity of 0.20 ~ 0.66 pg/mL of CoV-2-NPs, demonstrating more than 100 times greater sensitivity than commercially available SARS-CoV-2 Ag-RDTs. Conclusions CoV-2-POCube has high analytical sensitivity and can detect SARS-CoV-2 variants in 15 min without observing the high-dose hook effect, thus meeting the need for early SARS-CoV-2 diagnosis with lower viral load. CoV-2-POCube is a promising alternative to currently available diagnostic devices for faster clinical decision making in individuals with suspected COVID-19 in resource-limited settings.

Abstract

ABSTRACTPlant-pathogenic bacteria cause numerous diseases in host plants and can result in serious damage. Timely and accurate diagnostic techniques are, therefore, crucial. While advances in molecular techniques have led to diagnostic systems able to distinguish known plant pathogens at the species or strain level, systems covering larger categories are mostly lacking. In this study, a specific and universal LAMP-based diagnostic system was developed for phytoplasmas, a large group of insect-borne plant-pathogenic bacteria that cause significant agricultural losses worldwide. Targeting the 23S rRNA gene of phytoplasma, the newly designed primer set CaPU23S-4 detected 31 ‘Candidatus Phytoplasma’ tested within 30 min. This primer set also showed high specificity, without false-positive results for other bacteria (including close relatives of phytoplasmas) or healthy plants. The detection sensitivity was ~10,000 times higher than that of PCR methods for phytoplasma detection. A simple, rapid method of DNA extraction, by boiling phytoplasma-infected tissues, was developed as well. When used together with the universal LAMP assay, it enabled the prompt and accurate detection of phytoplasmas from plants and insects. The results demonstrate the potential of the 23S rRNA gene as a versatile target for the LAMP-based universal detection of bacteria at the genus level and provide a novel avenue for exploring this gene as molecular marker for phytoplasma presence detection.IMPORTANCEPhytoplasmas are associated with economically important diseases in crops worldwide, including lethal yellowing of coconut palm, “flavescence dorée” and “bois noir” of grapevine, X-disease in stone fruits, and white leaf and grassy shoot in sugarcane. Numerous LAMP-based diagnostic assays, mostly targeting the 16S rRNA gene, have been reported for phytoplasmas. However, these assays can only detect a limited number of ‘Candidatus Phytoplasma’ species, whereas the genus includes at least 50 of these species. In this study, a universal, specific, and rapid diagnostic system was developed that can detect all provisionally classified phytoplasmas within 1 h by combining the LAMP technique targeting the 23S rRNA gene with a simple method for DNA extraction. This diagnostic system will facilitate the on-site detection of phytoplasmas and may aid in the discovery of new phytoplasma-associated diseases and putative insect vectors, irrespective of the availability of infrastructure and experimental resources.

Abstract

BackgroundPoor sleep quality can elevate stress levels and diminish overall well-being. Japanese individuals often experience sleep deprivation, and workers have high levels of stress. Nevertheless, research examining the connection between objective sleep assessments and stress levels, as well as overall well-being, among Japanese workers is lacking. ObjectiveThis study aims to investigate the correlation between physiological data, including sleep duration and heart rate variability (HRV), objectively measured through wearable devices, and 3 states (sleepiness, mood, and energy) assessed through ecological momentary assessment (EMA) and use of rating scales for stress and well-being. MethodsA total of 40 office workers (female, 20/40, 50%; mean age 40.4 years, SD 11.8 years) participated in the study. Participants were asked to wear a wearable wristband device for 8 consecutive weeks. EMA regarding sleepiness, mood, and energy levels was conducted via email messages sent by participants 4 times daily, with each session spaced 3 hours apart. This assessment occurred on 8 designated days within the 8-week timeframe. Participants’ stress levels and perception of well-being were assessed using respective self-rating questionnaires. Subsequently, participants were categorized into quartiles based on their stress and well-being scores, and the sleep patterns and HRV indices recorded by the Fitbit Inspire 2 were compared among these groups. The Mann-Whitney U test was used to assess differences between the quartiles, with adjustments made for multiple comparisons using the Bonferroni correction. Furthermore, EMA results and the sleep and HRV indices were subjected to multilevel analysis for a comprehensive evaluation. ResultsThe EMA achieved a total response rate of 87.3%, while the Fitbit Inspire 2 wear rate reached 88.0%. When participants were grouped based on quartiles of well-being and stress-related scores, significant differences emerged. Abstract

Objectives The Kihon Checklist (KCL) is valuable for predicting long-term care (LTC) certification. However, the precise association between KCL scores and the temporal dynamics of LTC need certification remains unclear. This study clarified the characteristic trajectory of KCL scores in individuals certified for LTC need. Methods The KCL scores spanning from 2011 to 2019 were obtained from 5630 older individuals, including those certified for LTC need in November 2020, in Iiyama City, Nagano, Japan. We analyzed the KCL score trajectories using a linear mixed model, both before and after propensity score matching. Results Throughout the 9-year observation period, the KCL scores consistently remained higher in the certified group compared to the non-certified group. Notably, a significant score increase occurred within the 3 years preceding LTC certification. Discussion Our findings highlight the effectiveness of continuous surveillance using the KCL in identifying individuals likely to require LTC within a few years.

Abstract

We present a search for continuous gravitational-wave signals from the young, energetic X-ray pulsar PSR J0537-6910 using data from the second and third observing runs of LIGO and Virgo. The search is enabled by a contemporaneous timing ephemeris obtained using NICER data. The NICER ephemeris has also been extended through 2020 October and includes three new glitches. PSR J0537-6910 has the largest spin-down luminosity of any pulsar and is highly active with regards to glitches. Analyses of its long-term and inter-glitch braking indices provided intriguing evidence that its spin-down energy budget may include gravitational-wave emission from a time-varying mass quadrupole moment. Its 62 Hz rotation frequency also puts its possible gravitational-wave emission in the most sensitive band of LIGO/Virgo detectors. Motivated by these considerations, we search for gravitational-wave emission at both once and twice the rotation frequency. We find no signal, however, and report our upper limits. Assuming a rigidly rotating triaxial star, our constraints reach below the gravitational-wave spin-down limit for this star for the first time by more than a factor of two and limit gravitational waves from the $l=m=2$ mode to account for less than 14% of the spin-down energy budget. Abstract

The scale invariance of the universe is slightly broken by slow roll parameters. It is likely the slow roll is dual to the random walk. We investigate the distribution function of the conformal zeromode. We identify de Sitter entropy $S_{dS}$ with the distribution entropy of the conformal zeromode $\rho(\omega)$. We have collected convincing support on our postulate. The semiclassical evidence is that the both are given by the gravitational coupling $1/g=\log N/2$ where $g=G_NH^2/\pi$ and $N$ is the e-folding number. We show the renormalized distribution function obeys gravitational Fokker-Planck equation (GFP) and Langevin equations . Under the Gaussian approximation, they boil down to a simple first order partial differential equation. The identical equation is derived by the thermodynamic arguments in the inflationary space-time. GFP determines the evolution of de Sitter entropy of the universe. It coincides with $\beta$ function of $g$. We find two types of the solutions of GFP:(1) UV complete spacetime and (2) inflationary spacetime with power potentials. The maximum entropy principle favors the scenario: (a) born small $\epsilon$ and (b) grow large by inflation. We like to convey the emerging notion of de Sitter duality. The inflationary universe: (bulk/geometrical) is dual to the stochastic space-time on the boundary (cosmological horizon ) as the both are the solutions of GFP., Comment: 30 pages. Abstract

The class of special generic maps contains Morse functions with exactly two singular points, characterizing spheres topologically which are not $4$-dimensional and the $4$-dimensional unit sphere. This class is for higher dimensional versions of such functions. Canonical projections of unit spheres are simplest examples and suitable manifolds diffeomorphic to ones represented as connected sums of products of spheres admit such maps. They have been found to restrict the topologies and the differentiable structures of the manifolds strongly. The present paper focuses on images of special generic maps on closed manifolds. They are smoothly immersed compact manifolds whose dimensions are same as those of the targets. Some studies imply that they have much information on homology groups and cohomology rings. Abstract

We study latent heat and the pressure gap between the hot and cold phases at the first-order deconfining phase transition temperature of the SU(3) Yang-Mills theory. Performing simulations on lattices with various spatial volumes and lattice spacings, we calculate the gaps of the energy density and pressure using the small flow-time expansion (SFtX) method. We find that the latent heat $\Delta \epsilon$ in the continuum limit is $\Delta \epsilon /T^4 = 1.117 \pm 0.040$ for the aspect ratio $N_s/N_t=8$ and $1.349 \pm 0.038$ for $N_s/N_t=6$ at the transition temperature $T=T_c$. We also confirm that the pressure gap is consistent with zero, as expected from the dynamical balance of two phases at $T_c$. From hysteresis curves of the energy density near $T_c$, we show that the energy density in the (metastable) deconfined phase is sensitive to the spatial volume, while that in the confined phase is insensitive. Furthermore, we examine the effect of alternative procedures in the SFtX method - the order of the continuum and the vanishing flow-time extrapolations, and also the renormalization scale and higher-order corrections in the matching coefficients. Abstract

Energy momentum tensor (EMT) characterizes the response of the vacuum as well as the thermal medium under the color electromagnetic fields. We define the EMT by means of the gradient flow formalism and study its spatial distribution around a static quark in the deconfined phase of SU(3) Yang-Mills theory on the lattice. Although no significant difference can be seen between the EMT distributions in the radial and transverse directions except for the sign, the temporal component is substantially different from the spatial ones near the critical temperature $T_c$. This is in contrast to the prediction of the leading-order thermal perturbation theory. The lattice data of the EMT distribution also indicate the thermal screening at long distance and the perturbative behavior at short distance., Comment: 12 pages, 12 figures

220. Polarizations of CMB and the Hubble tension

Abstract

Future precision measurements of CMB polarizations can shed new light on the problem so called Hubble tension. The Hubble tension comes from the difference of the evolutions of the Hubble parameter which are determined with two different distance ladders. The standard distance ladder with the observation of Cepheid variables and type Ia supernovae gives larger values of the Hubble constant, and the inverse distance ladder with the observation of the baryon acoustic oscillations both in the CMB and in the clustering of galaxies gives smaller values of the Hubble constant. These different evolutions of the Hubble parameter indicate different evolutions of the free electron density in the process of the reionization of the universe and different magnitudes of low-l polarizations of the CMB, since these polarizations are mainly produced through the Thomson scattering of CMB photons off these free electrons. We investigate the effect on CMB E-mode and B-mode polarizations of l < 12 assuming non-trivially time-dependent equation of state of dark energy. Abstract

Special generic maps are higher dimensional versions of Morse functions with exactly two singular points, characterizing spheres topologically except 4-dimensional cases and 4-dimensional standard spheres. The class of such maps also contains canonical projections of unit spheres. This class is interesting from the viewpoint of algebraic topology and differential topology of manifolds. These maps have been shown to restrict the topologies and the differentiable structures of the manifolds strongly by Calabi, Saeki and Sakuma before 2010s, and later Nishioka, Wrazidlo and the author. Abstract

KAGRA is a newly built gravitational wave observatory, a laser interferometer with a 3 km arm length, located in Kamioka, Gifu, Japan. In this series of articles, we present an overview of the baseline KAGRA, for which we finished installing the designed configuration in 2019. This article describes the method of calibration (CAL) used for reconstructing gravitational wave signals from the detector outputs, as well as the characterization of the detector (DET). We also review the physical environmental monitors (PEM) system and the geophysics interferometer (GIF). Both are used for characterizing and evaluating the data quality of the gravitational wave channel. They play important roles in utilizing the detector output for gravitational wave searches. These characterization investigations will be even more important in the near future, once gravitational wave detection has been achieved, and in using KAGRA in the gravitational wave astronomy era., Comment: 2021/02/08 Accepted by PTEP

Abstract

7-dimensional closed and simply-connected manifolds have been attractive as central and explicit objects in algebraic topology and differential topology of higher dimensional closed and simply-connected manifolds, which were studied actively especially in the 1950s--60s. Attractive studies of the class of these $7$-dimensional manifolds were started by the discovery of so-called exotic spheres by Milnor. It has influenced on the understanding of higher dimensional closed and simply-connected manifolds via algebraic and abstract objects. Recently this class is studied via more concrete notions from algebraic topology such as concrete bordism theory by Crowley, Kreck, and so on. As a new kind of fundamental and important studies, the author has been challenging understanding the class in constructive ways via construction of fold maps, which are higher dimensional versions of Morse functions. 224. Closed manifolds admitting no special generic maps whose codimensions are negative and their cohomology rings

Abstract

Special generic maps are higher dimensional versions of Morse functions with exactly two singular points, characterizing spheres topologically except $4$-dimensional cases: in these cases standard spheres are characterized. Canonical projections of unit spheres are special generic. In suitable cases, it is easy to construct special generic maps on manifolds represented as connected sums of products of spheres for example. It is an interesting fact that these maps restrict the topologies and the differentiable structures admitting them strictly in various cases. For example, exotic spheres, which are not diffeomorphic to standard spheres, admit no special generic map into some Euclidean spaces in considerable cases. In general, it is difficult to find (families of) manifolds admitting no such maps of suitable classes. The present paper concerns a new result on this work where key objects are products of cohomology classes of the manifolds. Abstract

We investigate the history of dark energy to explain the present magnitude. We assume the dark energy is the residual cosmological constant. The most important channel in the reheating process is the gluon pair productions by QCD trace anomaly. We argue dark energy decays rapidly by gluon pair emissions during the reheating and after the big bang. The reheating temperature is determined by the decay width of dark energy Gamma and the Planck mass M_p as sqrt{M_P Gamma} ~ 10^6GeV. It is the consequence of Friedmann's equation and an equilibrium condition Gamma~ H. As the Universe cools below the hadronic scale, dark energy density is almost frozen. Nevertheless the dark energy further decreases by emitting two photons. We have estimated the current decay rate of dark energy from the QED trace anomaly. The consistent solution of Friedmann equation is in an excellent agreement with the observations. The suppression factor of dark energy scale is the product of fine structure constant alpha and curvature perturbation P as 10^{-30}=(\alpha^2P/4\pi)^2. We argue the conformal symmetry breaking in the both UV and IR are necessary unless dark energy is subtracted. We also investigated lepto-genesis by adding massive right handed neutrinos. Abstract

We have been interested in understanding the class of 7-dimensional closed and simply-connected manifolds in geometric and constructive ways. We have constructed explicit fold maps, which are higher dimensional versions of Morse functions, on some of the manifolds, previously. The studies have been motivated by studies of {\it special generic} maps, higher dimensional versions of Morse functions on homotopy spheres with exactly two singular points, characterizing them topologically except $4$-dimensional cases. The class contains canonical projections of unit spheres for example. Abstract

We propose a method to remove the contributions of pileup events from higher-order cumulants and moments of event-by-event particle distributions. Assuming that the pileup events are given by the superposition of two independent single-collision events, we show that the true moments in each multiplicity bin can be obtained recursively from lower multiplicity events. In the correction procedure the necessary information are only the probabilities of pileup events. Other terms are extracted from the experimental data. We demonstrate that the true cumulants can be reconstructed successfully by this method in simple models. Abstract

It is a classical important problem of differential topology by Thom; for a homology class of a compact manifold, can we realize this by a closed submanifold with no boundary? This is true if the degree of the class is smaller or equal to the half of the dimension of the outer manifold under the condition that the coefficient ring is Z_2. If the degree of the class is smaller or equal to 6 or equal to k-2 or k-1 under the condition that the coefficient ring is the integer ring where k is the dimension of the manifold, then this is also true. As a specific study, for 4-dimensional closed manifolds, the topologies (genera) of closed and connected surfaces realizing given 2nd homology classes have been actively studied, for example. In the present paper, we consider the following similar problem; can we realize a homology class of a compact manifold by a homology class of an explicit closed manifold embedded in the (interior of the) given compact manifold? This problem is considered as a variant of previous problems. We present an affirmative answer via important theory in the singularity theory of differentiable maps: lifting a given smooth map to an embedding or obtaining an embedding such that the composition of this with the canonical projection is the given map. Closed (and simply-connected) manifolds whose dimensions are greater than 4 are classified via sophisticated algebraic and abstract theory such as surgery theory and homotopy theory. It is difficult to handle 3 or 4-dimensional closed manifolds in such ways. However, the latter work via geometric and constructive ways is not so difficult. The assumption that the dimensions are not high enables us to handle the manifolds via diagrams for example. It is difficult to study higher dimensional manifolds in these ways, although it is natural and important. In the present paper, we present such studies via {\it fold} maps, which are higher dimensional variants of Morse functions. The author previously constructed fold maps on 7-dimensional closed and simply-connected manifolds satisfying additional conditions on cohomology rings, including so-called {\it exotic} homotopy spheres. Abstract

Solids with competing interactions often undergo complex phase transitions with a variety of long-periodic modulations. Among such transition, devil's staircase is the most complex phenomenon, and for it, CeSb is the most famous material, where a number of the distinct phases with long-periodic magnetostructures sequentially appear below the Neel temperature. An evolution of the low-energy electronic structure going through the devil's staircase is of special interest, which has, however, been elusive so far despite the 40-years of intense researches. Here we use bulk-sensitive angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and reveal the devil's staircase transition of the electronic structures. The magnetic reconstruction dramatically alters the band dispersions at each transition. We moreover find that the well-defined band picture largely collapses around the Fermi energy under the long-periodic modulation of the transitional phase, while it recovers at the transition into the lowest-temperature ground state. Our data provide the first direct evidence for a significant reorganization of the electronic structures and spectral functions occurring during the devil's staircase., Comment: 22 pages, 5 figures

235. Nf=2+1 QCD thermodynamics with gradient flow using two-loop matching coefficients

Abstract

We study thermodynamic properties of Nf=2+1 QCD on the lattice adopting O(a)-improved Wilson quark action and Iwasaki gauge action. To cope with the problems due to explicit violation of the Poincare and chiral symmetries, we apply the Small Flow-time eXpansion (SFtX) method based on the gradient flow, which is a general method to correctly calculate any renormalized observables on the lattice. In this method, the matching coefficients in front of operators in the small flow-time expansion are calculated by perturbation theory. In a previous study using one-loop matching coefficients, we found that the SFtX method works well for the equation of state, chiral condensates and susceptibilities. In this paper, we study the effect of two-loop matching coefficients by Harlander et al. We also test the influence of the renormalization scale in the SFtX method. We find that, by adopting the mu_0 renormalization scale of Harlander et al. instead of the conventional mu_d=1/sqrt{8t} scale, the linear behavior at large t is improved so that we can perform the t -> 0 extrapolation of the SFtX method more confidently. In the calculation of the two-loop matching coefficients by Harlander et al., the equation of motion for quark fields was used. For the entropy density in which the equation of motion has no effects, we find that the results using the two-loop coefficients agree well with those using one-loop coefficients. On the other hand, for the trace anomaly which is affected by the equation of motion, we find discrepancies between the one- and two-loop results at high temperatures. By comparing the results of one-loop coefficients with and without using the equation of motion, the main origin of the discrepancies is suggested to be attributed to O((aT)^2)=O(1/N_t^2) discretization errors in the equation of motion at N_t =< 10., Comment: 45 pages, 13 figures. Abstract

We propose a non-invasive and cost-effective method to automatically detect dementia by utilizing solely speech audio data. We extract paralinguistic features for a short speech segment and use Gated Convolutional Neural Networks (GCNN) to classify it into dementia or healthy. We evaluate our method on the Pitt Corpus and on our own dataset, the PROMPT Database. Our method yields the accuracy of 73.1% on the Pitt Corpus using an average of 114 seconds of speech data. In the PROMPT Database, our method yields the accuracy of 74.7% using 4 seconds of speech data and it improves to 80.8% when we use all the patient's speech data. Furthermore, we evaluate our method on a three-class classification problem in which we included the Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) class and achieved the accuracy of 60.6% with 40 seconds of speech data.

Abstract

In geometry, understanding the topologies and the differentiable structures of manifolds in constructive ways is fundamental and important. It is in general difficult, especially for higher dimensional manifolds. The author is interested in this and trying to understand manifolds via construction of explicit fold maps: differentiable maps locally represented as product maps of Morse functions and identity maps on open balls. Fold maps have been fundamental and useful in investigating the manifolds by observing (the sets of) singular points and values and preimages as Thom and Whitney's pioneering studies and recent studies of Kobayashi, Saeki, Sakuma, and so on, show. Here, construction of explicit fold maps on explicit manifolds is difficult. The author constructed several explicit families of fold maps and investigated the manifolds admitting the maps. Main fundamental methods are surgery operations (bubbling operations), the author recently introduced motivated by Kobayashi and Saeki's studies such as operations to deform generic differentiable maps whose codimensions are negative into the plane preserving the differentiable structure of the manifold in 1996 and so on. We remove a neighborhood of a (an immersed) submanifold consisting of regular values in the target space, attach a new map and obtain a new fold map such that the number of connected components of the set consisting of singular points increases. Abstract

Constructing Morse functions and their higher dimensional versions or fold maps is fundamental, important and challenging in investigating the topologies and the differentiable structures of differentiable manifolds via Morse functions, fold maps and more general generic maps. It is one of important and interesting branches of the singularity theory of differentiable maps and applications to geometry of manifolds. In this paper we present fold maps with information of cohomology rings of their Reeb spaces. Reeb spaces are defined as the spaces of all connected components of all preimages, and in suitable situations inherit topological information such as homology groups and cohomology rings of the manifolds. Previously, the author demonstrated construction of fold maps in various cases : key methods are surgery operations to manifolds and maps and in this paper, we present more useful surgery operations and by them we construct new fold maps. More precisely, fold maps with singular value sets with crossings: the singular value set of a smooth map is the image of the set of all singular points and note that for fold maps, the set of all singular points are closed submanifolds without boundaries and the restrictions to them are immersions of codimension 1., Comment: 18 pages, 3 figures, the title changed and various errors including crucial errors in main theorems corrected, this is submitted to a (refereed academic) journal
