Scaphisoma flavolineatum sp. nov. (Figs 25–27) Type locality. Indonesia, South Sulawesi, Gowa District, 6 km E of Malino, Gunung Bawakaraeng [Mt.] Area, near Lembanna Base camp, ca. 05°15.4 ′ S, 119°54.5 ′ E. Type material. HOLOTYPE: (NMPC), INDONESIA, S SULAWESI: Gowa Distr. / 6 km E of Malino, Gn. Bawakaraeng Area / border of gardens and mixed forest / (dominant Pinus) nr Lembanna Base camp / 05°15.4 ′ S, 119°54.5 ′ E, 1520 m / J.Hájek & J.Šumpich leg., 11-13.ii.2015. Description. Length 1.72 mm, width 1.13 mm. Head, thorax and most of elytra black; elytra each with well delimited yellowish subapical fascia covering most of apical third but not adsutural area and not apical 0.10 mm; abdomen blackish-brown. Antennomeres IV to XI dark brown, basal antennomeres and legs light, ochreous. Antennae long, length/width ratios of antennomeres as: III 15/11: IV 38/8: V 48/8: VI 47/7: VII 50/12: VIII 45/10: IX 56/14: X 55/13: XI 56/14. Pronotum and elytra not microsculptured. Pronotum strongly narrowed anteriad, with regularly rounded lateral margins, lateral margins carinae concealed near angles, hardly visible in middle section; punctation on disc fine, dense, visible at magnification 20×, consisting of sharply delimited punctures, puncture intervals much larger than puncture diameters, punctation along lateral carinae very fine. Tip of scutellum exposed. Elytra distinctly narrowed apically, lateral margins almost regularly curved, lateral margin carinae exposed throughout in dorsal view, apical margin rounded, inner apical angles situated in same level as outer angles, apical serration conspicuous, sutural margin not raised, adsutural areas flat, narrow, each with single puncture row. Sutural striae converging apically, curved near pronotal lobe and ending at basal margins, not extended laterad of pronotal lobe. Punctures along lateral margins very fine. Elytral disc with punctures fine, similar as those on pronotal disc or somewhat larger, sharply delimited, puncture intervals mostly about three to five times as large as puncture diameters. Hind wings fully developed. Exposed tergites with strigulate microsculpture and extremely fine punctation. Hypomera not microsculptured. Mesepimera about 1.5 times as long as intervals between them and mesocoxae and four times as long as wide. Metaventrite with strigulate microsculpture, sparsely and extremely finely punctate, flattened in centre, lacking impressions, without mesal stria, antecoxal puncture rows absent; apical intercoxal margin slightly concave. Submesocoxal lines convex, distinctly punctate; submesocoxal areas 0.04 mm, about as long as fourth of shortest intervals between them and metacoxae. Metanepisterna flat, hardly narrowed anteriad. Tibiae straight. Abdomen with microsculpture and punctation as that on metaventrite; ventrite I with submetacoxal line convex, distinctly punctate; submetacoxal areas 0.04 mm, about as long as fourth of shortest intervals between them and apical margin of ventrite. Male characters. Protarsomeres I–III moderately enlarged, narrower than apices of protibiae. Apical margin of abdominal ventrite VI narrow, subangular. Tergite IX with one macroseta on each plate, stalk evenly narrow, rounded laterally (Fig. 25). Aedeagus (Figs 26, 27), 0.63 mm long, symmetrical. Basal bulb large, narrowed apically, with pair of apicodorsal, inconspicuous plate-like areas. Apicoventral side of basal bulb concave in lateral view, articular process minute. Apical process strongly bent, vertical to aedeagal axis near tip, comparatively long, tapering in lateral view. Parameres with wide bases, from midlength to tip gradually narrowed in lateral view, lightly bent in apical halves in dorsal view, with inner margins weekly sclerotized. Internal sac tubular, with minute, weakly sclerotized denticular structure. Female. Unknown. Differential diagnosis. The aedeagal characters suggest a close relationship of this new species to S. bugi and S. ogawai sp. nov., though the median lobe is significantly longer than that of S. ogawai sp. nov., and the apical side of the basal bulb is oblique, almost as in S. ogawai sp. nov. and quite distinctive from that of S. bugi. The internal sac with minute, weakly sclerotized spine-like structures differs from that of both related species. This new species may be readily distinguished from its Sulawesi congeners by the light transverse elytral fascia, similar to that of the Philippine S. lunabianum Löbl & Ogawa, 2016, S. binaluanum Pic, 1947 and S. bicuspidatum Löbl & Ogawa, 2016 (see LÖBL & OGAWA 2016). Etymology. The species epithet is a Latin adjective flavolineatus, - a, - um, referring to the elytral colour pattern. Distribution. Scaphisoma pellax sp. nov. (Figs 28–30) Type locality. Indonesia, South Sulawesi, Gowa District, 6 km E of Malino, Gunung Bawakaraeng [Mt.] Area, near Lembanna Base camp, ca. 05°15.4 ′ S, 119°54.5 ′ E. Type material. HOLOTYPE: (NMPC), INDONESIA, S SULAWESI: Gowa Distr. / 6 km E of Malino, Gn. PARATYPE: ♀ (MHNG), with the same data as the holotype. Description. Length 1.44–1.47 mm, width 0.93–0.96 mm. Head, pronotum and most of elytra dark reddish brown, elytra blackish near apical margins and with yellowish apices, or pronotum and elytra uniformly blackish with yellowish apical margins; mesoventrite, median part of metaventrite and most of abdomen dark reddish-brown to blackish; hypomera, mesanepisterna, lateral parts of metaventrite and apicolateral parts of abdominal ventrite I blackish, apical abdominal segments yellowish; legs, mouthparts and antennomeres I to V ochreous, following antennomeres light brown. Antennae long, length/width ratios of antennomeres as: III 9/6: IV 25/5: V 28/6: VI 35/8: VII 42/11: VIII 34/9: IX 41/12: X 40/12: XI 48/12. Pronotum and elytra not microsculptured. Pronotum strongly narrowed anteriad, with regularly rounded lateral margins, lateral margins carinae concealed; punctation on disc fine, dense, visible at magnification 20×, consisting of sharply delimited punctures, puncture intervals much larger than puncture diameters, punctation along lateral carinae very fine. Tip of scutellum exposed. Elytra moderately narrowed apically, lateral margins almost regularly curved, lateral margin carinae exposed throughout in dorsal view, apical margin truncate, inner apical angles situated in same level as outer angles, apical serration inconspicuous, sutural margin not raised, adsutural areas flat, narrow, each with single puncture row. Sutural striae parallel in basal halves, converging apically, curved near pronotal lobe, not extended laterad of pronotal lobe. Punctures along lateral margins very fine. Elytral disc with punctures almost evenly large, sharply delimited, larger than those on pronotal disc, puncture intervals mostly about as large to three times as large as puncture diameters. Hind wings fully developed. Exposed tergites with strigulate microsculpture, extremely fine punctate. Hypomera smooth, not microsculptured. Mesepimera shorter than intervals between them and mesocoxae and four times as long as wide. Metaventrite not microsculptured, with mesal part convex, lacking apical impression, with very fine mesal stria, densely and finely punctate, apical intercoxal margin slightly concave. Lateral parts of metaventrite smooth, antecoxal puncture rows absent. Submesocoxal lines convex, distinctly punctate; submesocoxal areas 0.04 mm, about as long as third of shortest intervals between them and metacoxae. Metanepisterna flat, hardly narrowed anteriad. Tibiae straight. Abdomen with strigulate microsculpture and extremely fine punctation; ventrite I with submetacoxal lines convex, coarsely punctate; submetacoxal areas each 0.07 mm, somewhat longer than half of shortest intervals between them and apical margin of ventrite. Male characters. Protarsomeres I–III slightly widened, mesotarsomeres not widened.Abdominal ventrite VI with angular apical margin. Tergite IX with one macroseta on each plate, stalk thickened proximally, oblique laterally (Fig. 30). Aedeagus (Figs 28, 29) 0. 33 mm long, symmetrical. Median lobe with apical process about as long as basal bulb, strongly inflexed, tapering and with concave ventral side in lateral view, parallel-sided and with obtuse tip in dorsal view; dorsal valve weakly sclerotized. Articular process small, not prominent. Parameres wide at bases, narrowed toward apical thirds, in apical third evenly broad. Internal sac tubular, straight in resting position, bearing short spine-like structures to part appearing scale-like. Female characters. Protarsomeres not enlarged. Differential diagnosis. The aedeagal characters of this new species suggest relationships with S. bugi, S. ogawai sp. nov. and S. flavolineatum sp. nov. (see differential diagnoses under S. ogawai sp. nov. and S. flavolineatum sp. nov.). While S. bugi and S. flavolineatum sp. nov. may be readily distinguished by their colour pattern, S pellax sp. nov. resembles S. ogawai sp. nov. by its colour and also shares with it the mesally striate metaventrite. It may be readily distinguished from S. ogawai sp. nov. by the notably coarser elytral punctation, the larger submetacoxal areas, the median lobe of the aedeagus with a much longer, less inflexed and curved apical process, and the internal sac bearing distinct spine-like structures. Etymology. The species epithet is a Latin adjective pellax, meaning ‘guileful’. Distribution. Scaphobaeocera jirkai sp. nov. (Figs 47–49) Type locality. HOLOTYPE: (NMPC), INDONESIA, S SULAWESI: Gowa Distr. / 6 km E of Malino, Gn. Bawakaraeng Area / border of gardens and mixed forest / (dominant Pinus) nr Lembanna Base camp / 05°15.4 ′ S, 119°54.5 ′ E, 1520 m / J.Hájek & J.Šumpich leg., 11-13.ii.2015. PARATYPES: 2 ♀♀ (NMPC, MHNG), with the same data as the holotype. Description. Length 1.34–1.42 mm, width 0.71–0.77 mm, dorsoventral diameter 0.76–0.78 mm. Head and most of body black; mouth-parts, antennomeres I to V or to VI, legs and abdominal ventrites III to VI reddish-brown; antennomeres VI or VII to XI brown, darker than preceding antennomeres; pronotum becoming somewhat lighter toward anterior margin; elytra with light reddish-brown to yellowish apical margins; hypomera dark, blackish-brown; basomedian parts of metaventrite and abdominal ventrite I reddish-brown. Length/width ratios of antennomeres as: III 18/5: IV 24/5: V 30/5: VI 24/5: VII 32/10: VIII 20/8: IX 33/12: X 32/16: XI 47/17. Pronotal and elytral punctation similar, very fine and sparse, distinct at 50× magnification. Pronotum not iridescent. Tip of scutellum exposed. Elytra strongly iridescent, with sutural striae starting at basal margin, laterally pronotal lobe, parasutural striae present, shallow. Hypomera smooth, lacking striae. Mesanepisterna, mesepimera and lateral parts of metaventrite with strigulate microsculpture, appearing impunctate. Middle of metaventrite flattened, without mesal stria, not impressed. Submesocoxal lines parallel, with sparse, coarse, not elongate punctures, submesocoxal areas about 0.02 mm, as long as fifth of shortest intervals between them and metacoxae. Metanepisterna flat, parallel-sided, 0.04 mm wide, with straight, deep suture. Tibiae straight. Abdomen with strigulate microsculpture, appearing impunctate (100× magnification), coarse basal punctures of ventrite I excepted. Male characters. Protarsomeres I to III strongly enlarged; I about as wide as apices of tibiae, II and III narrower. Mesal part of metaventrite very densely punctate and bearing short pubescence. Aedeagus (Figs 47, 48) 0.44 mm long, with apical process asymmetrically bent, oblique and tapering. Apical side of basal bulb strongly sclerotized and prominent. Parameres wide, enlarged apically in lateral view, overlapping and straight in dorsal view. Internal sac complex, with proximal hook and short flagellum. Female characters. Protarsomeres not enlarged. Metaventrite densely punctate and pubescent on small apicomedian surface. Gonocoxite slightly bent, gradually narrowed, asetose (Fig. 49). Differential diagnosis. This new species shares with S. spinigera Löbl, 1979, S. uncata Löbl, 1990, S. orousseti Löbl, 2011 and S. pubiventris Löbl, 2011 the strongly sclerotized and prominent apical side of the basal bulb, the widened parameres and the internal sac with a short, not spiral, flagellum bearing a proximal hook, in combination. However, none of them has the parameres as large and overlapping, and with the proximal hook of the internal sac as conspicuous, as in S. jirkai sp. nov. In addition, S. spinigera and S. orousseti may be easily distinguished by the microsculptured hypomera and significantly shorter antennomere XI, while S. pubiventris and S. uncata differ notably by the presence of hypomeral striae and antennomeres VI and VIII being similar in length. Scaphobaeocera uncata may be readily distinguished by its small-sized, only 1.1 mm long body. Etymology. The species is dedicated to one of its collectors, Jiří Hájek (Praha); the species epithet is a Czech diminutive of his first name. The name is a noun in the genitive case. Distribution. Scaphisoma hulai sp. nov. (Figs 13–19) Type locality. Indonesia, Central Sulawesi, Palu District, Taman Nasional Lore Lindu [National Park], environs of Wuasa, 1°24,445 ′ S, 120°18,801 ′ E. Type material. HOLOTYPE: (NMPC), SULAWESI, Palu dist. / Lore Lindu N.P., Wuasa env., / 1°24,445’S, 20°18,801’E [sic!], / 15.viii. 2013, V.Hula lgt. PARATYPES: 2 3 ♀♀ (NMPC, MHNG), with the same data as the holotype. Description. Length 1.90–2.24 mm, width 1.38–1.62 mm. Body uniformly light reddish-brown or ochreous, apex of abdomen, tibiae, tarsi and antennae ochreous, lighter than body. Antennae long, length/width ratios of antennomeres as: III 15/10: IV 47/10: V 63/10: VI 60/9: VII 62/14: VIII 45/10: IX 65/15: X 55/15: XI 58/15. Pronotum and elytra not microsculptured. Pronotum strongly narrowed anteriad, with regularly arcuate lateral margins, lateral margins carinae throughout visible in dorsal view; punctation on disc very fine, sparse, hardly visible at magnification 20×, consisting of sharply delimited punctures, puncture intervals much larger than puncture diameters, punctures along lateral carinae absent. Apical part of scutellum exposed. Elytra weakly narrowed apically, lateral margins almost regularly curved, lateral margin carinae exposed throughout in dorsal view, apical margin truncate, inner apical angles situated about in same level as outer angles, apical serration inconspicuous, sutural margin not raised, adsutural areas flat, narrow, each with single puncture row. Sutural striae almost parallel between level of scutellum up to apices, curved near pronotal lobe and extended laterad to form basal striae, extended laterally to outer halves or thirds of basal width. Punctures along lateral margins absent. Elytral disc with punctures very fine and shallow, somewhat larger than those on pronotal disc, not clearly delimited, puncture intervals mostly about three to four times as large as puncture diameters, punctures near apical margins denser, to part about as large as puncture intervals. Hind wings reduced. Exposed tergites impunctate, with punctulate microsculpture. Hypomera not microsculptured, smooth. Mesepimera somewhat longer than intervals to mesocoxae and about five times as long as wide. Metaventrite not microsculptured; punctation very fine and sparse on prevailing surface, antecoxal puncture rows absent; apical intercoxal margin straight. Submesocoxal lines convex, finely punctate; submesocoxal areas 0.04–0.05 mm, about as long as fourth of shortest intervals between them and metacoxae. Metanepisterna flat, slightly narrowed anteriad. Abdominal ventrite I not microsculptured, with punctation very fine and sparse, as that on lateral parts of metaventrite; submetacoxal lines convex, finely punctate; submetacoxal areas each 0.05 mm, about as long as fifth of intervals between them and apical margin of ventrite. Following ventrites with conspicuous punctulate microsculpture, lacking punctation. Male characters. Pro- and mesotarsomeres I strongly enlarged, wider than apices of tibiae (Figs 14, 15). Pro- and mesotarsomeres II and III slightly widened. Pro- and mesotibiae straight, metatibiae slightly curved and narrowed in apical halves. Mesal part of metaventrite with large, subtriangular impression and very densely punctate anterior metacoxal process, punctures to part about as large as puncture intervals. Apical margin of abdominal ventrite VI emarginate in middle (Fig. 18). Tergite IX with two macrosetae on each plate, stalk widened basally, with lateral sections to part concave (Fig. 13). Aedeagus (Figs 16, 17) 1.10–1.20 mm long, asymmetrical. Median lobe with short, robust basal bulb bearing basoventral sclerotized apophysis.Articular process inconspicuous. Apical process stout, not bent. Parameres expanded by large, overlapping lobes. Inner sac compact, vesicular, bearing dense rows of scale-like structures; sclerotized pieces absent. Female characters. Pro- and mesotarsi narrow. Tibiae straight, evenly thick. Metaventrite convex in middle, flattened between metacoxae, with dense punctation limited onto small areas near coxae. Gonocoxite slightly bent, widened in middle, with subapical microtrichiae (Fig. 19). Differential diagnosis. The new species resembles S. latitarse Löbl, 2012, by its large-sized, finely punctate body, the presence of basal elytral striae, and the strongly enlarged basal protarsomeres. It may be readily distinguished from S. latitarse by its light body colour, the reduced hind wings, the long mesepimera and the abdominal ventrite I lacking microsculpture. The aedeagi of these two species are very distinctive. Several Moluccan congeners have aedeagi with basoventral processes, expanded parameres and bulbous internal sacs lacking sclerites (S. perdecorum Löbl, 2015, S. spatulatum Löbl, 2015, S. spinosum Löbl, 2015, S. permixtum Löbl, 2015). Scaphisoma hulai sp. nov. differs from all of them by its robust median lobe with wide, non-inflexed apical process, and by the much wider parameres. Etymology. The species is named in honour of its collector, Vladimír Hula, Brno, Czech Republic; the name is a noun in the genitive case. Distribution. Head ochreous; pronotum dark brown to black, with narrow mesal ochreous band, anterior margin narrowly ochreous and with conspicuous circular ochreous band at each side; prevailing elytral surface ochreous, basal area black and with sharply delimited and irregular margin, triangularly expanded in middle, adsutural area dark brown, centre of disc with rather small black spot narrowly separated from subtriangular black area touching sutural stria, subapical area with small spot (Fig. 53); hypomera ochreous, with dark margins, venter of mesothorax and metathorax blackish, ventrites reddish-brown, becoming gradually lighter apically; femora and tibiae ochreous, mouth-parts, antennomeres I and II, and tarsi yellowish, antennomeres III to XI brown.Antennae long, length/width ratios of antennomeres as: III 15/8: IV 49/7: V 65/7: VI 58/8: VII 65/15: VIII 50/10: IX 62/14: X 52/14: XI 65/14. Pronotum and elytra not microsculptured. Pronotum strongly narrowed anteriad, with regularly rounded lateral margins, lateral margins carinae entirely or almost entirely visible; punctation on disc fine, dense, visible at magnification 20×, consisting of sharply delimited punctures, puncture intervals much larger than puncture diameters, punctation along lateral carinae distinct, conspicuously dense. Tip of scutellum exposed. Elytra strongly narrowed apically, lateral margins almost regularly curved, lateral margin carinae exposed throughout in dorsal view, apices sexually dimorphic, apical margins rounded, inner apical angles situated posterior level of outer angles, apical serration conspicuous, sutural margin not raised, adsutural areas flat, narrow, each with single puncture row. Sutural striae parallel in basal halves, converging apically, starting at level of scutellum, not curved along pronotal lobe. Punctures along lateral margins coarse and dense. Elytral disc with punctures larger than those on pronotum, sharply delimited, puncture intervals mostly about as large to twice as large as puncture diameters. Hind wings fully developed. Hypomera smooth, not microsculptured. Mesepimera slightly shorter than intervals between them and mesocoxae and four times as long as wide. Metaventrite with strigulate microsculpture; centre of metaventrite convex, with two shallow apical impressions, lacking mesal stria, punctation dense and fine, denser in impressions than on remaining surface; apical intercoxal margin truncate. Lateral parts of metaventrite sparsely and very finely punctate, antecoxal puncture rows absent. Submesocoxal lines convex, distinctly punctate; submesocoxal areas 0.04 mm, about as long as fifth to fourth of shortest intervals between them and metacoxae. Metanepisterna flat, hardly narrowed anteriad, with broadly rounded angles. Protibiae straight. Mesotibiae and metatibiae slightly bent. Abdomen with strigulate microsculpture and extremely fine punctation; ventrite I with submetacoxal lines parallel, coarsely punctate; submetacoxal areas each 0.05 mm, as long as fourth of shortest intervals between them and apical margin of ventrite. Male characters. Protarsomeres I–III strongly widened, I about as wide as apices of protibiae. Mesotibiae thicker and more bent than metatibiae. Mesotarsomeres I and II distinctly widened. Elytra not extended apically, with inner apical angles lying somewhat posterior level of outer angles. Apical margin of abdominal ventrite VI with narrow, 0.05 mm long lobe. Tergite IX with stalk rounded laterally, bearing basal, not clearly delimited darkened areas (Fig. 38). Aedeagus (Figs 35–37) 0.88–0.90 mm long, symmetrical. Apical process long, tapering, inflexed, with slightly sinuate ventral margin in lateral view. Dorsal valve partly sclerotized to form rhomboid plate joined by membranes to proximal part of apical process. Parameres bent at bases and apices, notched ventrally near apices, with sinuate dorsal margin in lateral view, each bearing ventral, membranous apophyse extended apically. Internal sac with pair of distal denticles and complex basal sclerite, joined by membranes bearing very finely striate and minute denticle-like structures. Female characters. Pro- and mesotarsomeres narrow. Elytra with prominent apical angles, apical margins strongly oblique, inner apical angles situated far posterior outer apical angles. Gonocoxite slightly bent, evenly narrow (Fig. 39). Differential diagnosis. The colour pattern of the body and the aedeagal characters of this species are unique. The median lobe is similar to that of S. bugi and its allies, and of the Malaysian S. angulatum Löbl, 1975, but the parameres bearing ventral hyaline apophyses are distinctive. An unusual feature are the sexually dimorphic elytra (see under S. ancora sp. nov.). Etymology. The species epithet is a Latin adjective versicoloreus, - a, - um, meaning varicoloured. Distribution. Tibiae straight. Abdomen with microsculpture and punctation as that on metaventrite. Male characters. Pro- and mesotarsomeres I to III moderately enlarged, narrower than apices of respective tibiae. Apical margin of abdominal ventrite VI narrow, subangular. Tergite IX with two macrosetae on each plate, stalk evenly narrow, oblique laterally (Fig. 21). Aedeagus (Figs 22–24) 0.75 mm long, symmetrical. Basal bulb large, narrowed apically, with pair of apicodorsal, inconspicuous plate-like areas. Apicoventral side of basal bulb oblique, articular process minute. Apical process strongly bent, almost vertical to axis of basal bulb, comparatively short, tapering in lateral view. Parameres with wide bases, gradually narrowed toward apical third, bent in apical halves, inner margins weekly sclerotized. Internal sac tubular, small sclerotized structures absent. Female characters. Protarsi and mesotarsi narrow. Apical margins of elytra as in males. Gonocoxite slightly bent, evenly wide (Fig. 20). Differential diagnosis. The aedeagal characters suggest close relationships of S. ogawai sp. nov. and S. bugi. These species have a similar shape of the median lobe and parameres, and a simple, tubular internal sac lacking sclerotized pieces. The apicoventral side of the basal bulb is oblique in S. ogawai sp. nov. and differs drastically from that in S. bugi. The new species may be readily distinguished by its external characters, notably by the elytra lacking spots (spotted in S. bugi), the antennomere IV three times as long as III (only two times as long as III in S. bugi), the metaventrite striate in middle and with distinct strigulate microsculpture on lateral parts (in S. bugi lacking mesal stria and not microsculptured laterally), and the submesocoxal and submetacoxal lines distinctly punctate (appearing impunctate in S. bugi). Etymology. This species is dedicated to Ryo Ogawa, Matsuyama, Japan, who significantly contributed to the knowledge of the Sulawesi scaphidiines. The name is a noun in the genitive case. Internal sac complex, with curved basal tooth-like sclerite, two long denticles, and dense spine-like structures filling tubular apical section. Female. Unknown. Differential diagnosis. This species is a member of the S. tricolor species group as defined in LÖBL & OGAWA (2016). It is similar to the Philippine S. tricolor Heller, 1917 by its external characters, in particular the colour pattern, but may be distinguished by the metaventrite with a mesal carina and by the ventral branch of the apical process bearing subapical tubercles. Head, thorax, hypomera excepted, elytra and abdominal ventrite 1 to 4 uniformly reddish-brown, femora and tibiae slightly lighter, hypomera, apical abdominal segments, tarsi and antennae distinctly lighter, almost yellowish. Pronotum and elytra lacking microsculpture. Antennae with length/width ratio of antennomeres as follows: III 15/8: IV 47/6: V 63/7: VI 54/8: VII 61/13: IX 55/12: X: 55/13: XI 73/12 (antennomere VIII missing). Pronotum with lateral margins rounded, lateral margin carinae visible in dorsal view, discal punctation very fine and sparse. Point of scutellum exposed. Elytral punctation coarse and dense, punctures well delimited, puncture diameters mostly about half to as large as puncture intervals. Hypomera not microsculptured, very finely punctate. Mesepimeres almost as long as interval to mesocoxae and 6 times as long as wide. Metaventrite convex in middle, with two apicomedian impressions not clearly delimited, bearing a few fairly coarse punctures. Antecoxal puncture lines present, impressed, consisting of fine punctures. Remaining surface of metaventrite uniformly and very finely punctate, with punctures hardly visible at 100× magnification, fairly coarse punctures margining submesocoxal lines excepted. Median part of metaventrite not microsculptured, lateral parts with strigulate microsculpture. Submesocoxal lines convex, submesocoxal areas 0.04 mm long, as fifth of interval to metacoxae. Metanepisterna slightly convex, 0.13 mm wide, moderately narrowed anteriad, with inner suture weakly rounded, impressed below level of metaventrite. Protibiae and metatibiae straight, mesotibiae curved. Abdomen with strigulate microsculpture. Ventrite 1 very finely and sparsely punctate, except on basomedian area bearing few fairly coarse punctures; submetaxocal lines convex, submetaxocal areas 0.05 mm long, about as fourth of interval to apical margin of ventrite. Male characters. Segments 1 and 2 of protarsi and mesotarsi strongly widened, segments 1 almost as wide as the apices of tibiae. Segments 3 of protarsi and mesotarsi weakly widened. Abdominal ventrite 6 with apical lobe large, about 0.15 mm long, truncate apically. Aedeagus (Figs 1–3) about 1.00 mm long. Median lobe with basal bulb strongly sclerotized at apical side, almost membranous proximally. Dorsal branch of apical process tapering, at base widened and weakly sclerotized. Ventral branch of apical process oblique and truncate at apex in dorsal view, sinuate in lateral view, with minute apical denticle and very fine subapical granulation on ventral side. Internal sac with complex denticulate and spinose structures, sclerotized spines and lobes. Differential diagnosis. The species is a member of the S. tricolor group, and fairly similar to S. chujoi Löbl, 1982 from Sarawak (see LÖBL 1982). It may be readily distinguished from the latter, and other species possessing a basal bulb of the median lobe that is expanded apicodorsally, by the truncate apex of the ventral branch of the apical process of the median lobe (in dorsal view), which is very finely granulate on its ventral side (in lateral view). Comments. The antennae were broken off and the antennomeres III to VII, IX to XI, and X and XI were found in glue below the specimen. They are now mounted on a slide. Both antennomeres VIII are missing. In addition, the proximal end of the basal bulb of the aedeagus is damaged. Distribution. Kalimantan, ca 50 km W of Balikpapan Pt Fajar Surya Swadaya [area] 01° 13.4’S 116°22.6’E, 66m J. Hájek, J. Schneider, P. Votruba leg. 27+ 30.XI.2011 / stream in primary rainforest, ca. 2m wide, sandy+mud bottom; collecting in stream and tributaries, on vegetation and dead wood’ (NMPC, MHNG). Distribution. Indonesia (Sumatra, Kalimantan), Philippines (Mindanao), Laos, and Vietnam. Comments. PIC (1926) described this species from the Philippines, and its aedeagus in dorsal view was figured and characterized in LÖBL (1972). The aedeagal characters seen in lateral view are useful and therefore they are here illustrated (Figs 4–5). Diagnostic characters were also given, and distributional information completed in LÖBL (1981b). Scaphisoma tarsale sp. nov. (Figs 9–12) Type locality. Indonesia, East Kalimantan, ca. 55 km W of Balikpapan, PT Fajar Surya Swadaya area, 01°13.3′S, 116°21.0′E, 100 m a.s.l. Type material. HOLOTYPE: ♂, ‘ Indonesia, E. Kalimantan, ca 55 km W of Balikpapan PT Fajar Surya Swadaya [area] 01°13.3’S 116°21.0’E, 100m J. Hájek, J. Schneider, P. Votruba leg. 24-25+ 29.xi.2011 / border of Acacia mangium plantation and primary rainforest, stream and waterfall, puddles; individual collecting, + light trap’ (NMPC). PARATYPE: ♂, with the same data as the holotype but ‘ 23.xi.2011 ’ and ‘ base camp surrounded with Acacia plantation; individual collecting on vegetation, dead wood and in puddles, + light trap’ (MHNG). Description. Length 1.95–2.04 mm, width 1.36–1.38 mm. Head, pronotum and apical abdominal segments light reddish-brown, most of elytra, mesoventrite and metaventrite dark reddish-brown, apical fifth of elytra light, almost yellowish, ventrite 1 light, darkened near apical margin, appendages somewhat lighter than pronotum. Pronotum and elytra without microsculpture. Antennae with length/width ratio of antennomeres as follows: III 13/10: IV 46/9: V 67/9: VI 57/9: VII 65/13: VIII 50/8: IX 63/8 (antennomeres X and XI missing). Pronotum with lateral margins rounded, lateral margin carinae visible in dorsal view, discal punctation very fine, punctures dense, not well delimited, slightly larger on basomedian area than in middle, pubescence indistinct. Apical part of scutellum exposed. Elytra with lateral margin carinae exposed in dorsal view, apical margins slightly rounded, inner apical angle not prominent, situated somewhat posterior level of outer angles, sutural margin not raised, sutural striae shallow, starting posterior level of scutellum, almost parallel anterior mid-length, weakly converging posterior mid-length, indicated by puncture row in basal third of elytron; adsutural areas flat, with single puncture row, combined 0.15 mm at elytral mid-length. Elytral punctation coarse and dense, much coarser than pronotal punctation, consisting of punctures fairly well delimited, with puncture intervals mostly about 1.5 to 2 times as large as puncture diameters. Hypomera smooth. Mesepimeron somewhat shorter than interval to mesocoxa, about 3 times as long as wide. Metaventrite with distinct strigulate microsculpture, except on sides, in middle somewhat convex, with two shallow apicomedian, distinctly punctate impressions, antecoxal puncture rows present, in impressed lines, remaining punctation very fine and sparse. Submesocoxal areas 0.04 mm, about as quarter of interval to metacoxa, submesocoxal lines parallel, with coarse marginal punctures. Metanepisternum flat, somewhat below level of metaventrite, 0.12 mm wide, weakly narrowed anteriad, with inner margin almost straight, rounded near apical angles. Protibiae straight, mesotibiae distinctly curved, metatibiae hardly sinuate, slender than protibiae or mesotibiae. Abdomen with strigulate microsculpture. Intercoxal process of ventrite 1 with irregular transverse row of fairly coarse punctures, remaining surface of ventrites very finely and sparsely punctate. Submetaxocal lines convex, coarsely punctate, submetacoxal areas 0.06 mm, as fifth of interval to apical margin of ventrite. Male characters. Protarsomere 1 strongly widened, about as wide as protibial apex, protarsomere 2 moderately widened, protarsomere 3 narrow, about as protarsomere 4. Mesotarsomere 1 conspicuously strongly enlarged, wider than mesotibial apex, mesotarsomere 2 about as wide as mesotibial apex, mesotarsomere 3 moderately widened. Ventrite 6 prominent apically, forming large, about 0.20 mm long, rounded lobe. Aedeagus (Figs 9–12) about 1.15 (proximal part of median lobe damaged) – 1.22 mm long. Median lobe with ventral branch almost perpendicular to aedeagal axis, tapering, in dorsal view appearing sinuate. Dorsal branch of apical process sinuate in lateral view. Parameres with large, overlapping lobes attached to strongly sclerotized processes. Internal sac with basal and apical tufts of spine-like and scalelike structures, and three denticles, basal denticle transverse, following two denticles bent. Differential diagnosis. This new species is similar to and likely closely related with S. tricolor Heller, 1917, from the Philippines. It may be readily distinguished by the broadly triangular dorsal branch of the aedeagal apical process and by the shape of the sclerites of the internal sac, in particular the straight and comparatively short basal sclerite, and the absence of a plate between the two mesal sclerites. Etymology. The species epithet refers to the shape of the strongly widened tarsi. Distribution. Additional material examined. 2 ♀♀, ‘Borneo Is., Poling (sic) Hot Spring, Sabah Malaysia 30.IV.1980 M. & A. Sakai’ (MHNG). Redescription. Length 1.60 mm, width 1.15 mm. Head, pronotum and most of elytra very dark, almost blackish-brown, elytra each with not clearly delimited lighter subhumeral area, rather indistinct light subapical spot touching sutural stria and separated from narrowly light apices by dark area. Apical abdominal segments light brown to yellowish, femora reddish-brown, tibiae, tarsi and antennae yellowish. Antennae with length/width ratio of antennomeres as follows: III 18/8: IV 27/5: V 58/7: VI 45/8: VII 50/10: VIII 46/8: IX 54/10: X 55/11: XI 75/12. Pronotum with lateral margins rounded, lateral margin carinae visible in dorsal view, discal punctation very fine and sparse. Point of scutellum exposed. Elytra with lateral margin carinae entirely exposed in dorsal view, apical margins rounded, inner apical angle not prominent, situated posterior level of outer angles, sutural margin raised, sutural striae deep, not curved at base and not extended along basal margins, strongly converging from bases to apices, in particular posterior basal fourth; adsutural areas flat, slightly impressed, combined 0.32 mm wide at base, about 0.20 mm just posterior basal third, very narrow near apices, irregularly and finely punctate in anterior third, with single puncture row in apical section. Punctures along both sides of anterior section of sutural striae dense and coarse, well delimited, outer punctures margining basal third of sutural striae larger than puncture intervals. Remaining elytral punctation sparse and very fine, consisting mostly of not clearly delimited punctures; a few somewhat larger punctures present on anterior part of disc. Hypomera not microsculptured, very finely punctate. Mesepimeres about as long as interval to mesocoxae and 3 times as long as wide. Metaventrite with hardly visible strigulate microsculpture, convex in middle, with apicomedian part flattened and bearing fairly coarse puncture, lacking impressions; with very shallow median stria, punctation almost evanescent; antecoxal puncture lines present, impressed, coarsely punctured. Submesocoxal lines parallel, submesocoxal areas 0.04 mm long, as sixth of interval to metacoxae, distinctly punctate. Metanepisterna slightly convex, 0.12 mm wide, moderately narrowed anteriad, with inner suture almost straight, not impressed below level of metaventrite. Protibiae straight, mesotibiae and metatibiae curved. Abdomen with strigulate microsculpture. Ventrite 1 very finely and sparsely punctate, basomedian area lacking coarse punctures; submetacoxal lines subparallel, submetaxocal areas 0.04 mm long, hardly as fifth of interval to apical margin of ventrite. Differential diagnosis. The relationships of the species are unknown in absence of male characters. The species is, however, quite well characterized by its metaventrite being striate in the middle and the elytra with strongly converging sutural striae, in combination with the body colour. Head and body dark reddish-brown, pronotum darkened along basal margin, elytra darkened in middle, between basal and apical fourth. Femora, tibiae and abdominal ventrites lighter, tarsi and antennae much lighter than pronotum. Pronotum without microsculpture, elytra with conspicuous punctulate microsculpture, dull. Antennae with length/width ratio of antennomeres as follows: III 17/11: IV 33/10: V 45/10: VI 56/11: VII 62/14: VIII 52/11: IX 67/15: X 55/15: XI 77/15. Pronotum with lateral margins rounded, lateral margin carinae visible in dorsal view except near angles, discal punctation fairly fine and dense, well delimited, puncture intervals mostly about twice as large to as large as puncture diameters, pubescence distinct. Apex of scutellum exposed. Elytra dull, with conspicuous microsculpture consisting of punctures and striae, and very shallowly wrinkled; lateral margin carinae exposed in dorsal view, apical margins slightly rounded, inner apical angle not prominent, situated about in level with outer angles, sutural margin not raised, sutural striae shallow, curved at base, extended along basal margins to form basal striae reaching outer third of elytral basal width (dorsal view), parallel between level of scutellum and mid-length, converging from mid-length apically, adsutural areas flat, with puncture row, combined about 0.15 mm wide at mid-length, with very fine, irregular puncture row. Elytral punctation very fine and sparse, hardly visible at 50× magnification, punctures margining sutural striae distinct. Punctation fairly distinct and dense on basal part of pygidium, becoming finer toward pygidial apex. Hypomera not microsculptured, very finely punctate. Mesepimeres shorter than interval to mesocoxae and 4 times as long as wide. Metaventrite not microsculptured, convex in middle, flattened apicomesally, without apicomedian impressions, with punctation very fine between mesocoxae, becoming coarse and dense toward apical intercoxal process, with coarse punctures well delimited and to part larger than puncture intervals. Lateral parts of metaventrite very finely and sparsely punctate, without antecoxal puncture row. Submesocoxal lines parallel, margined by conspicuously coarse puncture; submesocoxal areas 0.05 mm, about as fourth of interval to metacoxae. Metanepisterna convex, 0.12 mm wide, moderately narrowed anteriad, with inner suture almost straight, deeply impressed. Tibiae straight. Abdomen with strigulate microsculpture, ventrites extremely finely and sparsely punctate. Submetacoxale lines of ventrite 1 subparallel, conspicuously coarsely punctate, submetacoxal areas about 0.05 mm long, almost as fifth of interval to apical margin of ventrite. Differential diagnosis. This species differs significantly from all Asian congeners, with the notable exception of the Japanese S. pecki Löbl, 1982, by its dull, conspicuously microsculptured elytra. It may be easily distinguished from S. pecki by the darkened middle part of the elytra, the elytral punctation being hardly visible, much finer than pronotal punctation, the antennomere XI longer than X, while both are equally long in S. pecki, the metaventrite lacking impressions and with narrower submesocoxal areas, the presence of strigulate abdominal microsculpture, and the entire ventrite 1 very finely punctate. The lectotype has the left antenna mounted on celluloid slide, the antennomeres VII to XI of the right antenna are broken off and missing. Additional material examined. 1 ♀, with the same locality data as the lectotype (MHNG). Redescription. Length 1.37 mm, width 0.92 mm. Head and most of body very dark brown with somewhat reddish lustre, apical sixth of elytra, apical abdominal segments, tarsi and antennae yellowish or very light brown, femora and tibiae also lighter than most of body, but not as light as tarsi. Pronotum and elytra without microsculpture. Antennae with length/ width ratio of antennomeres as follows: III 12/5: IV 20/5: V 30/6: VI 30/7: VII 42/10: VIII 28/8: IX 41/10: X 42/10: XI 50/14. Pronotum with lateral margins rounded, lateral margin carinae not visible in dorsal view, discal punctation fine, dense, well delimited, near base distinctly coarser than on anterior half; pubescence indistinct. Apical part of scutellum exposed. Elytra with lateral margin carinae entirely exposed in dorsal view, apical margins slightly rounded, inner apical angle not prominent, situated posterior level of outer angles, sutural margin raised, sutural striae deep, not curved at base and not extended along basal margins, gradually converging apically, adsutural areas flat at sutural margin, combined 0.18 mm wide at elytral base, each with two distinct puncture rows reaching mid-length, single puncture row in apical halves. Elytral punctation conspicuous, each elytron with 5 or 6 oblique puncture rows consisting of large and well delimited punctures, mostly much larger than puncture intervals. Inner puncture rows reaching apical third of disc, latter very finely and sparsely punctate. Humeral areas very finely punctate, areas between puncture rows and lateral margins impunctate. Inner puncture rows long, starting near base, outer puncture rows short, limited onto middle third of each elytron. Punctation on surfaces between anterior parts of inner puncture rows and sutural striae distinct, similar to that on basal part of pronotum. Hypomera not microsculptured, appearing impunctate. Mesepimeres as long as two thirds of interval to mesocoxae and 3 times as long as wide. Metaventrite weakly convex mesally, with very shallow apicolateral impressions, lacking microsculpture in middle and on sides, with strigulate microsculpture between mesocoxae and metacoxae, punctation mostly very fine and sparse, several large punctures in and near apicomedian impression, antecoxal puncture rows present, not impressed. Submesocoxal lines weakly convex, distinctly punctured, submesocoxal areas 0.04 mm long, as third of interval to metacoxae. Metanepisterna flat, at inner margin impressed below level of metaventrite, 0.09 mm wide, weakly narrowed anteriad, inner suture almost straight, rounded at angles. Tibiae straight. Abdomen with strigulate microsculpture and very finely punctate. Ventrite 1 with submetaxocal areas 0.08 mm long, strongly convex, about as two thirds of interval to apical margin of ventrite. Ventrite 1 very finely and sparsely punctured laterally, with dense and fairly coarse punctures on basal half of median area, similar to those on median part of metaventrite; submetaxocal lines convex, submetaxocal areas 0.07 mm long, about as half of interval to apical margin of ventrite. Comments. This species was described as a variety of S. oblongum Pic, 1916. According to the ICZN Art. 45.6.4, the name S. punctatipenne Pic, 1916 is available and the taxon is to be dealt with as a subspecies of S. oblongum Pic, 1916. The latter species was described from Nias, and since its description never again reported. Both, S. oblongum and S. punctatipenne possess similar pronota and elytra, and in particular a quite striking pattern of elytral punctation, though S. oblongum is less darkly colored. These species may be distinguished by characters of the ventral side of the body. Scaphisoma oblongum has the mesepimera much longer, about 5 times as long as the interval to the mesocoxae; the metaventrite convex in the middle, with two very shallow apicomedian impressions, the strigulate microsculpture distinct also on the lateral parts of the metaventrite, but not near the metanepisterna, the metasternal punctation is generally fine all over though consisting of larger punctures between metacoxae, the antemetacoxal puncture rows present; the submesocoxal lines parallel, the submesocoxal areas narrower, 0.03 mm long, a sixth of the interval to the metacoxae; the metanepisterna impressed below level of the metaventrite and slightly convex, the median part of the ventrite 1 very finely punctate, the submetacoxal areas shorter, about a third of the interval to the apical margin of the ventrite. Fauna Europaea provides a public web-service with an index of scientific names (including synonyms) of all living European land and freshwater animals, their geographical distribution at country level (up to the Urals, excluding the Caucasus region), and some additional information. The Fauna Europaea project covers about 230,000 taxonomic names, including 130,000 accepted species and 14,000 accepted subspecies, which is much more than the originally projected number of 100,000 species. This represents a huge effort by more than 400 contributing specialists throughout Europe and is a unique (standard) reference suitable for many users in science, government, industry, nature conservation and education. Coleoptera represent a huge assemblage of holometabolous insects, including as a whole more than 200 recognized families and some 400,000 described species worldwide. Basic information is summarized on their biology, ecology, economic relevance, and estimated number of undescribed species worldwide. Little less than 30,000 species are listed from Europe. The Coleoptera 2 section of the Fauna Europaea database (Archostemata, Myxophaga, Adephaga and Polyphaga excl. the series Elateriformia, Scarabaeiformia, Staphyliniformia and the superfamily Curculionoidea) encompasses 80 families (according to the previously accepted family-level systematic framework) and approximately 13,000 species. Tabulations included a complete list of the families dealt with, the number of species in each, the names of all involved specialists, and, when possible, an estimate of the gaps in terms of total number of species at an European level. A list of some recent useful references is appended. Most families included in the Coleoptera 2 Section have been updated in the most recent release of the Fauna Europaea index, or are ready to be updated as soon as the FaEu data management environment completes its migration from Zoological Museum Amsterdam to Berlin Museum für Naturkunde.

Elytral impunctate or very finely punctate near base, with fairly coarse punctures on remaining surface, including apical areas, puncture intervals mostly as large to twice as large as puncture diameters. Epipleural striae reaching level of sternite 2, punctate, supraepipleural areas with puncture row. Hind wings well developed. Hypomera impunctate, smooth. Mesoventral suture distinct, mesoventrite distinctly punctate, with median ridge. Mesepimera large, each about 3 times as long as wide and about 3 times as long as interval to metacoxae. Median part of metaventrite flattened, with smooth centre delimited laterally and apically by coarse punctures row. Lateral parts of metaventrite coarsely punctate, except on smooth areas near metacoxae. Punctures on lateral parts of metaventrite to part elongate, some as large as or larger than puncture intervals. Submesocoxal lines arcuate, with marginal punctures not extended laterally, submesocoxal areas about 0.05 mm long, as third of interval to metacoxae. Metanepisterna about 0.06-0.07 mm wide, narrowed anteriad, with suture deep, broad, straight, coarsely punctate. Protibiae straight, mesotibiae and metatibiae slightly curved. Sternite 1 with coarse basal punctures uninterrupted in middle, separated by wrinkles about 0.02-0.08 mm long, remaining abdominal punctation distinct. Male: Protarsomeres hardly widened. Aedeagus (Figs 1-3, 5) 0.41-0.48 mm, fairly sclerotized. Median lobe symmetrical, with apical process shorter than basal bulb, weakly inflexed, gradually narrowed apically, with acute tip. Articular process distinct, not prominent. Parameres long, slightly narrowed from base to mid-length and somewhat bent in dorsal view, evenly narrow and straight in lateral view. Internal sac with curved, proximally widened sclerite and densely denticulate basal membranous lobe, membranes posterior sclerite extremely finely denticulate. Female: Ovipositor (Fig. 4) with long distal gonocoxite hardly narrowed apically, bearing two long apical setae, gonostyle present, with two short subapical setae and one long apical seta. Distribution: Indonesia: Timor. Type locality: Timor, Camplong, 250 m, monsoon forest NE of village. Comments: This is a member of the B. serendibensis group and is in external characters similar to B. serendibensis (Löbl, 1971) and B. sauteri Löbl, 1980. The aedeagal features suggest close relationships with the Australian B. alternans (Löbl, 1977), the New Guinean B. bironis (Pic, 1956), B. insperata (Löbl, 1977) and B. prospecta Löbl, 2002, and B. agostii Löbl, 2014 from the Moluccas. The new species may be distinguished from these species, B. agostii excepted, by the elytra having complete basal striae, joined to lateral striae, and all but B. prospecta by the distinctly punctate lateral parts of the metasternum. Ventral branch of apical process inflexed, with ventral side sinuate, subapical dorsal tooth followed by very fine dorsal crenulations, tip in dorsal and lateral views acute. Dorsal branches of apical process very short. Parameres fairly narrow in basal halves, each with large weekly sclerotized subapical lobe distinct in dorsal view, abruptly widened in apical halves in lateral view. Internal sac complex, with basal tuft of very dense spine-like structures, two admesal groups of large, curved denticles, followed by irregular rows of fairly robust mesal denticles. Membranes with scale-like structures. Distribution: Indonesia: Sumatra, Lombok. Comments: The species is a member of the Scaphisoma haemorrhoidale group, well characterized by its aedeagus. Achard (1920) failed to give any statement about the number of specimen examined and their depository. Scaphobaeocera lombokensis sp. nov. Figs 114-115 Holotype: MHNG; ♂; Indonesia, Lombok Pusuk Pass, 300 m 3.XI.1991, I. Löbl degr. forest leaf litter. Paratypes: MHNG; 1 ♂, 3 ♀; with the same data as the holotype. Etymology: The species epithet is derived from the name of the island Lombok. Description: Length 1.05-1.12 mm, width 0.53-0.55 mm, dorsoventral diameter 0.62-0.64 mm. Head and body fairly light reddish-brown, mesoventrite and metaventrite eventually darkened. Apex of abdomen, femora and tibiae slightly lighter, tarsi and antennae much lighter. Thorax and elytra lacking obvious microsculpture, not iridescent. Pronotal and elytral punctation similar, very fine. Length/width ratio of antennomeres as follows: III 14/5: IV 19/5: V 22/5: VI 20/5: VII 21/7: VIII 15/6: IX 24/9: X 24/10: XI 35/11. Scutellum concealed. Elytra with sutural striae starting at margin of pronotal lobe, parasutural striae indistinct. Hypomera without striae. Middle part of metaventrite flat, lacking impression or groove, entirely densely and distinctly punctate and with short pubescence. Lateral parts of metaventrite lacking microsculpture, very finely punctate, with sparse, short pubescence. Submesocoxal areas about 0.03 mm long, submesocoxal lines impunctate. Metanepisternum flat, parallel-sided, 0.03 mm wide. Tibiae straight. Abdominal sternite 1 without distinct basal punctures, punctation very fine. Male: Protarsomeres 1 to 3 distinctly widened. Aedeagus (Figs 114-115) 0.27 mm long. Median lobe narrow, with long, moderately inflexed apical process. Apical process tapering in lateral view, with ventral side weakly concave. Articular process of median lobe small, not prominent. Parameres narrow between bases and apical halves, widened in apical halves and weakly sinuate in lateral view, with widest points being about in level with tip of median lobe; almost straight in dorsal view. Internal sac with flagellum fairly wide in proximal part, forming single complete loop, gradually narrowed apically. Distribution: Indonesia: Lombok. Type locality: Lombok Pusuk Pass, 300 m Comments: The aedeagal characters suggest relationships with S. curvipes Löbl, 1977 from Australia, S. fratercula Löbl, 1984, S. molesta Löbl, 1999 from China, S. variabilis Löbl, 1981 from Japan and S. mussardi Löbl, 1971 known from the Indian subcontinent. Scaphobaeocera curvipes and S. mussardi possess flagellum forming two loops, and the parameres in the former species bear each a ventral membranous lobe, while they are gradually widened apically in the latter species. The new species may be readily distinguishes from S. curvipes by its smaller body-size and straight tibiae. Scaphobaeocera variabilis is distinctly microsculptured and iridescent dorsally and ventrally, has parameres widened in apical two thirds and flagellum forming three loops. Scaphobaeocera fratercula has the flagellum forming a single, incomplete loop and differs notably by its elytra with distinct parasutural striae and by the impunctate and grooved centre of the metaventrite. Scaphisoma obliquemaculatum was redescribed in LÖBL (1971). In absence of distinctive characters, I place Pseudoscaphosoma atrithorax Pic in synonymy with this widely distributed species. The MNHN houses five additional females identified by Pic as P. atrithorax. They come from Sumatra, Fort de Kock (present Bukittinggi), and were collected in 1926 by E. Jacobson. Etymology: The species epithet is patronymic. Description: Length 1.35-1.46 mm, width 0.80- 0.85 mm, dorsoventral diameter 0.78-0.80 mm. Body reddish-brown, apex of abdomen yellowish, femora and tibiae somewhat lighter than pronotum and elytra, tarsi and antennae yellowish-brown to yellowish. Antennae long, length/width ratio of antennomeres as follows: III 29/6: IV 33/6: V 38/7: VI 40/6: VII 48/12: VIII 45/7: IX 46/10: X 43/13: XI 44/15. Dorsal surface of body very finely punctate. Elytra with sutural striae shallow, curved along bases to form basal striae joined to lateral striae. Adsutural areas flat. Mesal part of metaventrite flattened. Submesocoxal areas about 0.05 mm long, submesocoxal lines coarsely punctate. Remainder of metaventrite very finely punctate. Abdomen without obvious microsculpture, with fairly coarse basal punctures, remaining punctation hardly visible. Male: Male protarsus hardly widened. Aedeagus (Figs 121-123) 0.45-0.48 mm long. Widened apical part of parameres short, bent dorsally, with weakly sclerotized margins. Internal sac with short basal sclerites followed by membranous tube bearing very fine spine-like structures. Female: Ovipositor (Fig. 124) with long distal gonocoxite slightly narrowed between base and mid-length, bearing one short subapical seta, and one long and one short apical setae, gonostyle absent. Distribution: Indonesia: Lombok. Type locality: Lombok Senaro, N slope of Rinjani, 1100 m. Comments: This new species may be easily distinguished from other congeners by characters given in the key.
