236. Fabrication of UTC-PDs Having High RF Power Output Efficiency

Abstract

In this letter, we report the fabrication of Uni-travelling-carrier photodiode (UTC-PDs) for mm-wave applications. For the fabricated PDs, the area of the p electrode is smaller than that of the absorption area. Though this leads to a response roll off when the frequency is below 3.5 GHz, a higher impedance of the PD can be obtained, which leads to a higher RF power output for a $50~\Omega $ load resistance. For the PD having $50\times 4~\mu $ m2 absorption area and $46\times 2.5~\mu $ m2 p electrode area, the measured RF output power at 6 mA photocurrent, −2V bias and 15 GHz is 0.2 dBm. The ideal RF output power for a PD at this current is 0.35 dBm, which is only 0.15 dB higher than the measured RF power, indicating a high RF power output efficiency.

Abstract

Biomass fly ash is a sustainable, eco-friendly cement substitute with economic and performance benefits, being renewable compared to coal fly ash. This study examines using biomass fly ash (BFA) as a sustainable cement substitute, comparing it with Class F fly ash (CFA). With a water–binder ratio of 0.5 and replacement rates of 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, and 30% (by mass), the research highlights BFA's promising applications. BFA and CFA were mixed into cement paste/mortar to analyze their reactivity and properties, with hydration products CH and C-S-H evaluated at 7, 28, and 91 days. Compressive strength, micro-pore structure, and drying shrinkage (assessed from 7 to 182 days) were tested. Results showed BFA had similar pozzolanic reactions to CFA at later stages. While compressive strength decreased with higher BFA replacement rates, early-stage performance matched CFA; growth was CFA-10 (18 MPa) and BFA-10 (17.6 MPa). BFA mortars exhibited slightly better deformation properties. BFA-30 cement had superior performance, with a lower drying shrinkage rate of 65.7% from 14 to 56 days compared to CFA-10's 73.4% and a more stable shrinkage growth rate decrease to 8.4% versus CFA-10's 6.4% after 56 days. Abstract

Background As a newly identified subtype of HER2-negative tumors associated with a less favorable prognosis, it remains crucial to evaluate potential prognostic and predictive factors, particularly non-invasive biomarkers, for individuals with human epidermal growth factor 2 (HER2) low early-stage breast cancer (EBC). Multiple investigations have highlighted that HER2-negative patients with EBC exhibiting high homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) scores display lower rates of pathological complete response (PCR) to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC). Nevertheless, no study to date has explored the correlation between HRD and the long-term prognosis in HER2-low patients with EBC. Patients and methods This retrospective observational study focuses on primary EBC sourced from The Cancer Genome Atlas dataset (TCGA). It reveals the gene mutation landscape in EBC with low HER2 expression and elucidates the tumor immune landscape across different HRD states. Utilizing bioinformatics analysis and Cox proportional models, along with the Kaplan-Meier method, the study assesses the correlation between HRD status and disease-specific survival (DSS), disease-free interval (DFI), and progression-free interval (PFI). Subgroup analyses were conducted to identify potential variations in the association between HRD and prognosis. Results In the patients with HER2-low breast cancer, patients with homologous recombination related genes (HRRGs) defects had an HRD score about twice that of those without related genes mutations, and were at higher risk of acquiring ARID1A , ATM , and BRCA2 mutations. We also found that most immune cell abundances were significantly higher in EBC tumors with high HRD than in EBC tumors with low HRD or HRD-medium, particularly plasma B-cell abundance, CD8 T-cell abundance, and M1 macrophages. In addition, these tumors with HRD-high also appear to have significantly higher tumor immune scores and lower interstitial scores. Then, we analyzed the relationship between different HRD status and prognosis. There was statistical significance (P  = .036 and P  = .046, respectively) in DSS and PFI between the HRD-low and HRD-high groups, and patients with HRD-high EBC showed relatively poor survival outcomes. A medium HRD score (hazard ratio, HR = 2.15, 95% CI: 1.04-4.41, P  = .038) was a significant risk factor for PFI. Hormone receptor positivity is an important factor in obtaining medium-high HRD score and poor prognosis. Conclusion Higher HRD scores were associated with poorer PFI outcomes, particularly in people with HR+/HER2-low. Varied HRD states exhibited distinctions in HRRGs and the tumor immune landscape. These insights have the potential to assist clinicians in promptly identifying high-risk groups and tailoring personalized treatments for patients with HER2-low EBC, aiming to enhance long-term outcomes. Abstract

The dynamic replacement of soil organic carbon represents a pivotal mechanism through which water erosion modulates soil–atmosphere CO2 fluxes. However, the extent of this dynamic replacement of soil inorganic carbon within this process remains unclear. In our study, we focused on Yuanmou County, China, a prototypical region afflicted by water erosion, as our study area. We leveraged the WaTEM/SEDEM model to quantify the dynamic replacement of soil carbon, accounted for the average annual net change in soil carbon pools, and used isotope tracer techniques to track and measure the process of the coupled carbon–water cycling. This comprehensive approach enabled us to scrutinize the dynamic replacement of soil carbon under water erosion and delineate its ramifications for the carbon cycle. Our findings unveiled that the surface soil carbon reservoir in the Yuanmou area receives an annual replacement of 47,600 ± 12,600 tons following water erosion events. A substantial portion, amounting to 39,700 ± 10,500 tons, stems from the dynamic replacement of soil inorganic carbon facilitated by atmospheric carbon. These results underscore the critical role of the dynamic replacement of soil inorganic carbon in altering the soil–atmosphere CO2 fluxes under water erosion, thereby influencing the carbon cycle dynamics. Consequently, we advocate for the integration of water erosion processes into regional carbon sink assessments to attain a more comprehensive understanding of regional carbon dynamics.
