Global 21st century Kyoto Gas emissions growth as forecast in SSP2 (a middle-of-the-road future climate scenario) is largely driven by expected: (a) per-capita GDP growth; and (b) energy/non-CO 2 GDP intensity reduction. While models of the former have been comprehensively critiqued, the rationale for the latter has not. This paper uses a new consumption-based methodology to determine likely future emissions intensity reductions implicit in changing consumption patterns. Its analysis of household expenditure surveys, macroeconomic data and income elasticities inform a model of how future consumption pathways could evolve with different levels of national incomes to 2100. These pathways are then combined with existing emissions intensity data to quantify the implied impacts of consumption change on overall emissions intensity. Introducing such a consumption factor into established decomposition methodologies then allows demonstration of the scale of non-consumption intensity reductions required. Results suggest that emissions intensity peaks at poverty-like national income levels, where household/transport fuels dominate emissions. Thereafter, intensity reduces with national income growth, though absolute emissions continue to rise. We find that expected changes in consumption patterns will deliver less than half required consumption energy intensity reduction to meet SSP2-Baseline projections to 2100. Such implied non-consumption-pattern improvement requirements may appear relatively undemanding in total against historic performance, but for some regions and timescales this is not the case and the role of mitigation in the historic data may render a forecast baseline (where mitigation is excluded) optimistic. The paper's methodology and findings are relevant for inequality scholars, climate modellers, and governments and policymakers, helping them facilitate a better understanding of how consumption pathways interact with climate futures for whole economies and particular sectors within those. This article aims to rediscover a relatively unknown author to the general public, Slavcho Zagorov, and to revive his ideas. Zagorov was a Bulgarian economist and statistician whose main works date back to 1954 and are mainly devoted to the concept of energy flows in the economy and human metabolism explained through the prism of thermodynamics. His work and career are reminiscent of another Balkan economist, Nicholas Georgescu-Roegen. We first present Zagorov's theoretical work on the importance of energy in economic activity and secondly on the measurement of national income and productivity through energy. Thirdly, we show the relation he establishes between energy and utility. Finally, we discuss his texts in relation to his professional and personal trajectory and point out some preliminary elements of comparison with Georgescu-Roegen's work. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

During the decade, the Indonesians faced many economic challenges. Whether in the form of the industrial revolution 4.0 to the COVID19 pandemic. These challenges have led to economic transformation, starting from the agricultural, industrial, and service sectors. The success of this structural transformation is measured by the contribution of the agricultural, manufacturing, and service sectors to national income and employment. This study aims to analyze the transformation of the economic structure towards national income and employment with the Industrial Revolution 4.0 and Covid 19. This research is explanatory with a non-parametric correlation method. The analytical tool in this study is the Spearman correlation which is used to see changes in the transformation of the economic structure and employment in Indonesia. The type of data used is secondary data from BPS Indonesia. This study divides the economic sector into 17 main sectors by BPS Indonesia. The results showed a change in the structure of the Indonesian economy, although manufacturers were still the sector that contributed the most to Indonesia's national income. This also occurs in employment. There is a change in Indonesia’s employment structure, although the largest absorption is still in the agricultural sector. JEL: O14, O15, J21.

Between February 2020 and May 2022, one million Americans have died of COVID-19. To determine the contribution of those deaths to all-cause mortality in terms of life expectancy reductions and the resulting economic welfare losses, we calculated their combined impact on national income growth and the added value of lives lost. We estimated that US life expectancy at birth dropped by 3.08 years due to the million COVID-19 deaths. Economic welfare losses estimated in terms of national income growth supplemented by the value of lives lost, was in the order of US$3.57 trillion. US$2.20 trillion of these losses were in in the non-Hispanic White population (56.50%), US$698.24 billion (19.54%) in the Hispanic population, and US$579.93 billion (16.23%) in the non-Hispanic Black population. Aims To assess the feasibility to comply with the recommended actions of ESC guidelines on general cardiology areas in 102 countries and assess how compliance relates to the country's income level. Methods and results All recommendations from seven ESC guidelines on general cardiology areas were extracted and labelled on recommended actions. A survey was sent to all 102 ESC national and affiliated cardiac societies (NCSs). Respondents were asked to score recommended actions on their availability in clinical practice on a four-point Likert scale (fully available, mostly/often available, mostly/often unavailable, fully unavailable), and select the top three barriers perceived as being responsible for limiting their national availability. Applicability was assessed overall, per World Bank gross national income (GNI) level, and per guideline. A total of 875 guideline recommendations on general cardiology was extracted. Responses were received from 64 of 102 (62.7%) NCSs. On average, 71·6% [95% confidence interval (CI): 68.6–74.6] of the actions were fully available, 9.9% (95% CI: 8.7–11.1) mostly/often available, 6.7% (95% CI: 5.4–8.0) mostly/often unavailable, and 11·8% (95% CI: 9.5–14.1) fully unavailable. In low-income countries (LICs), substantially more actions were fully unavailable [29·4% (95% CI: 22.6–36.3)] compared with high-income countries [HICs, countries 2.4% (95% CI: 1.2–3.7); P < 0.05]. Nevertheless, a proportion of actions with the lowest availability scores were often fully or mostly unavailable independent of GNIs. Actions were most often not available due to lack of reimbursement and other financial barriers. Conclusion Local implementation of ESC guidelines on general cardiology is high in HICs and low in LICs , being inversely correlated with country gross national incomes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Recently, sustainability of tourism growth has become an international issue due to environmental and economic uncertainty that needs recent researchers' focus and also requires the policymakers' attention. Therefore, the present research has examined the role of economic and environmental factors and tourism policy related to tourist arrival on the sustainability of tourism growth in China. The economic factor includes the gross domestic product (GDP), national income, and foreign direct investment (FDI), while environmental factors include carbon dioxide (CO2) emission, greenhouse gas (GHG) emission, and nitrous oxide emission. The study has extracted the data from World Development Indicators (WDI) from 1990 to 2020. The present research has employed nonlinear autoregressive distributed lagged (NARDL) to check the linkage among variables. The current study also examines the unit root using Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) and Phillips-Perron (PP) tests. The results revealed that GDP, national income, tourism policy related to tourist arrival, and FDI have a positive linkage with the sustainability of tourism growth. The results also exposed that environmental factors such as CO2 emission, GHG emission, and nitrous oxide emission have a negative linkage with the sustainability of tourism growth. This study provides the guidelines to the relevant authorities and regulators in developing and implementing the regulators regarding the sustainability of tourism growth by promoting economic and environmental conditions and effective tourism policies in the country. Struggles over the degree of the scientific autonomy of statistics led to the demise of one of the first international scientific congresses in European history. But in the 1880s, only a decade after the collapse of that congress, the International Statistical Institute (ISI) was founded as its immediate successor to overcome the nationalist disputes that hindered the idealistic visions of a universal science breakthrough. The connection between universal scientific concepts and state reform processes is examined by the case study of the implementation of national income statistics according to internationally comparable standards in the German Reich. Thereby, the organizational history of the ISI, the role models of the participants and national realities are set in relation. The article argues that the semi-official character of international statistics implies a tension between scientific autonomy and dependence on national administrations. Equally, it offers the possibility of promoting national reform processes with reference to international integration, as the institutional responsibility for the German national income calculation in the 1930s demonstrates. Theories of 'growth models' explain capitalist diversity by reference to shifting drivers of aggregate demand in different national economies. This article expands the growth models framework beyond its conventional focus on debt-driven and export-driven demand, through an ideational analysis of Thatcher's vision of a property-owning democracy, and Blair's knowledge-driven growth agenda. Drawing on policymakers' statements, it shows how these hypothetical growth models differed from the debt-driven growth model that ultimately prevailed. Using data on the distribution of wealth and wages, it highlights how both approaches failed to generate sustainable demand; in Thatcher's case, because of an insufficiently broad distribution of capital ownership, in Blair's case, because of an insufficiently broad distribution of lucrative knowledge work. This indicates that explanations of dysfunctional growth models need to consider not just the split of national income between labour and capital, but also the distribution of both labour income and capital income between households. The goal of this study is to look into how changes in crude oil prices affect GDP per capita and exchange rate fluctuations.to investigate the influence of crude oil price shocks on GDP per capita and exchange rate movements. This research employed yearly time series data for the price of crude oil, exchange rate (USD/INR), and GDP per capita, from 1990 to 2020. Arithmetical tools such as Descriptive, Unit Root, Granger Causality Test, and OLS Model were applied. The present study discovered a strong bi-directional Granger causality effect of Dubai crude oil prices on exchange rates, as well as a bi-directional Granger influence of exchange rates on WTI crude oil prices. The diagnostic tests were successfully passed by the estimated models. According to the OLS model, the exchange rate was driven only by the price of Dubai crude oil, although the price of WTI crude oil influenced both the GDP per capita and the exchange rate over the research period. The key policy recommendation derived from this analysis is that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) must depreciate the rupee, first to restore much-needed exchange rate stability, then to stimulate domestic manufacturers, and finally, to attract foreign capital inflows. We analyze carbon dioxide emissions in a dynamic framework of conflicting claims problem (O'Neill in Math Soc Sci 2:345–371, 1982). We consider five allocation rules of the standard claims problem, taking a target carbon dioxide budget as an endowment to divide and the business-as-usual emissions of countries as a claims vector. The claims problem of one period is linked to another through economic growth, as an emission allocation affects the countries' national income, which then affects their claims of the next period. We provide a numerical analysis of this framework to illustrate how an emission allocation influences economic growth cumulatively. This study examines the relationship between education and poverty vulnerability in South Africa by using the disaggregated approach. The study uses the National Income Dynamics Study dataset captured from 2008 to 2017 of a balanced panel consisting of 10,800 South African households. We applied batteries of econometric techniques. The results reveal a significant negative relationship between education and vulnerability to poverty especially to those whose future consumption lies below the food poverty line. Therefore, policymakers should use education as a tool to reduce poverty vulnerability by increasing its quality so that students can compete fairly in the global labor market. Irrespective of the vast array of empirical evaluations pertaining to the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) hypothesis, both for India and other countries, previous studies, amid divergent submissions, inadvertently failed to highlight the relevant threshold that ensures significant reductions in environmental decay. Additionally, the implications of environmental-control technology on environmental quality are also lacking mostly in the context of Indian economy. Thus, this study enlists environmental-control technology and other relevant factors over the period 1980–2018 and employs the novel multiple threshold nonlinear ARDL technique, a model rarely applied in previous studies for updated empirical narratives. Accordingly, the empirical evidence rectifies that the variables converged to long-run equilibrium. Furthermore, from the tercile partial deviations, it is established that at the middle threshold (GDP2W2), pollution shrinks more significantly amid rising income, thereby validating the EKC hypothesis for India. Likewise, environmental-control technologies provided only a short-term insignificant carbon neutrality pathway, whereas they provided long-term insignificant emission increasing effects. This implies that the depth of such technology in India is inadequate to invoke cleaner environments at all times. Likewise, energy consumption and urbanization processes are significant environmental polluters, while trade openness provides insignificant long- and short-term carbon emission effects. Against this background, economic growth within the middle threshold promises a more sustainable environment amid rising national income at all times. It has been seen generally that Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is helping the growth of national income growth in India. India and its neighboring countries have seen an influx of FDI with varying degrees of impact on the local economy. The relationship between FDI and economic growth has been extensively studied, with the view to establishing causality between the two. However, there have been varying results depending on the country's particular context and situation, and the results are inconclusive. Lethal violence requires a gender-based analysis which recognises that femicide is different from homicide in many ways. Structural factors such as national income and wealth equality together with government policies may influence the scale of the problem globally. This study is an original attempt to examine associations between femicide rates, these structural factors and national action plans using a longitudinal design. Data from two international surveys were combined to examine anti-femicide actions (n = 133 countries) and temporal femicide prevalence trends (n = 66 countries) in the context of national income and wealth inequality factors. The United Nations Survey of Crime Trends and Operations of Criminal Justice Systems was used to estimate femicide rates per country 2003–2014 and the World Health Organisation Global Status Report on Violence Prevention provided data on policy initiatives in place by 2014. Results indicate that femicide rates decreased by 32% worldwide but increased by 26% in low- and medium-income countries. The structural factors of low income and high inequality were significantly negatively associated with the 2014 femicide rate. Structural factors must be addressed alongside policy and legal initiatives if significant gains are to be made toward eradicating violence against women and girls. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, using the data between 1990 and 2018, the effect of various macroeconomic indicators on the informal economy was investigated for 9 Balkan countries consisting of Greece, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Hungary and North Macedonia and Turkey. According to the results of the study, a one-unit increase in national income reduces the informal economy by 5.53 units. A one-unit increase in gross fixed capital formation increases the informal economy by 0.266 units. A one-unit increase in unemployment increases the informal economy by 0.164 units. A one-unit increase in inflation increases the informal economy by 0.007 units. A one-unit increase in taxes on goods and services reduces the informal economy by 1.18 units. There is a positive and significant relationship between income inequality and the informal economy. A one-unit increase in income inequality increases the informal economy by 0.361 units. In this paper, a new model is developed by referring to the literature on Dutch disease and rent-seeking for explaining how a natural resource boom in the energy sector decreases national income and induces a resource movement effect under a rent-seeking monopoly. In such a model, it is shown that the resource movement effect certainly occurs during the boom where labor inputs will move to the energy sector from the services sector. Background: At the start of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, in the absence of pharmaceutical interventions, countries resorted to containment measures to stem the spread of the disease. In this paper, we have conducted a global study using a sample of 46 countries to evaluate whether these containment measures resulted in unemployment. Methods: We use a difference-in-differences (DID) specification with a heterogenous intervention to show the varying intensity effect of containment measures on unemployment, on a sample of 46 countries. We explain variations in unemployment from January-June 2020 using stringency of containment measures, controlling for gross domestic product (GDP) growth, inflation rate, exports, cases of COVID-19 per million, COVID-19-specific fiscal spending, time fixed effects, region fixed effects, and region trends. We conduct further subset analyses by COVID-cases quintiles and gross national income (GNI) per capita quintiles. Results: The median level of containment stringency in our sample was 43.7. Our model found that increasing stringency to this level would result in unemployment increasing by 1.87 percentage points (or 1.67 pp, after controlling for confounding). For countries with below median COVID-19 cases and below median GNI per capita, this effect is larger. Conclusion: Containment measures have a strong impact on unemployment. This effect is larger in poorer countries and countries with low COVID-19 cases. Given that unemployment has profound effects on mortality and morbidity, this consequence of containment measures may compound the adverse health effects of the pandemic for the most vulnerable groups. This paper examines the relationship between citizens' level of digital skills and country development. Country development is measured by Gross National Income per capita (GNI p.c.), while digital skills are measured by the World Economic Forum. Data were gathered from the World Bank databases for 2019 from 135 countries worldwide. Correlation analysis was used for the analysis. The results of the correlation analysis show a significant strong positive linear relationship between digital skills and GNI p.c., indicating the importance of country development in developing adequate levels of the crucial skills of the 21st century -- digital skills and vice versa. High energy production is the global requirement that is the demand of high economic growth in the country and needs regulators and recent researchers' emphasis. Therefore, the current study examines the impact of economic factors such as gross domestic product (GDP), national income, employment rate, foreign direct investment (FDI), and inflation and technological advancement on energy production in China. The present article has used the secondary data extracted from World Development Indicators (WDIs) from 1976 to 2020. The present research has employed the nonlinear autoregressive distributed lagged (NARDL) model to explore the association among the understudy constricts. The findings revealed that all the economic factors such as GDP, national income, employment rate, FDI, inflation, and technological advancement have a significant and positive association with energy production in China. Background. Literature is inconclusive regarding an association between maternal depression, low birthweight (LBW) and stunting in early childhood. While some studies have found an association, others have not. Maternal food insecurity is a risk factor for both maternal depression and reduced linear growth in early childhood. Objective. This study examined the relationship between maternal depression, food insecurity, LBW and stunting in the first five years of life. The study employed longitudinal data of South African women and children from the National Income Dynamics Study (NIDS). Methods. Mothers were classified into four groups: food insecure and depressed; food insecure only; depressed only; and neither food insecure nor depressed. During data collection, 22% of women were pregnant and the remaining 78% were pre-conception. The primary outcomes were low birthweight and height-for-age (HAZ) scores. Generalised Linear Mixed Effects (GLME) models were used to account for women having more than one child. GLME models with a Gaussian link function were used to compare mean differences in birthweight and HAZ scores. Multivariable regression models were used to examine factors associated with depression. Results. Food insecurity was significantly associated with depression among pre-conceptional and pregnant women. There was no statistically significant difference in birthweight or linear growth across groups, but this may be influenced by proximity of depression measurement in relation to outcomes. Conclusion. Food insecurity is a potentially modifiable risk factor for depression and may be a confounding factor in studies that have found associations between depression and child health outcomes. Since industrialization migration has been a continuous phenomenon, it invigorates innovations and technologies. Due to this reason, several research questions aroused that either the migration has any causal effect on employment opportunities for native people from global developed economies. Moreover, the role of migration affects the national income of the economies due to internal mobility and expansion of the cities. An instrumental variable model with a fixed effect is used to analyse the data. The study has used twenty years annual data set start from 2000 to 2019. The data have taken from World Development Indicator (WDI) and the Organization for Economic Co‐operation and Development (OECD). The results explore that employment opportunities at the individual level are affected by the presence of a foreign workforce. Moreover, migrant population pressure could be a possible reason for the decrease in available work opportunities for the native labour force. However, the national income does not get affect by the incursion of migrants from outward boundaries of the international cities. The overall findings of this study concluded that global migration matters seriously but at the individual level and particular kinds of work opportunities have stressed due to immigration, but the overall impact is subtle. Human capital is a complex concept to measure given it is an unobserved latent construct. Education is a fundamental dimension of human capital and thus an education-based approach is the one most widely used. However, the international literature recommends a latent-variable approach to measuring human capital. This study thus aims to measure human capital in South Africa, a country experiencing extreme earnings and education inequalities, using a latent-variable approach and the National Income Dynamic Study (NIDS) dataset. The findings are that parental education is associated with the largest amount of variance in (latent) human capital, while the health indicator captures the least variance. Furthermore, the (latent) human capital variable provides a valuable measure to profile the distribution of human capital by socioeconomic subgroups. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Despite being mostly dependent on agriculture, farm households in Bangladesh frequently engage in non-farm income diversification activities in order to maintain or increase their standard of living. The aim of this study is to examine the factors that influence farm households' strategies and decisions regarding the accumulation of non-farm income. Multi-stage sampling was used to collect primary data from 139 farm households in the Rajshahi district in order to meet the study aim. Descriptive and econometric analyses were both used for data analysis. The descriptive data showed that around 80% of the respondents earned income outside of agriculture. The findings of the binary logit model demonstrate that family size, years of schooling of the household head, and lack of participation in local organizations have a substantial impact on respondents' decisions on diversification. The multinomial logit model examined how family size, local organization membership, and farm size affected factor diversification outside of farming. Furthermore, the household head's years of schooling, participation in local organizations, and distance to the closest product market were the main factors influencing their diversification strategy. Policy makers should provide incentives and training that further stimulates non-farm income generating activities of farm households to facilitate the continuing transition of the Bangladesh economy away from its primary reliance on agriculture to generate national income. This paper aims at summarizing the evolutionary law of income distribution system and providing a reference for the coordination arrangement of primary distribution, redistribution and third distribution policies. Based on policies, this paper refines the evolutionary law of income distribution and estimates the proportional relationship among primary distribution, redistribution and third distribution by using the national income data. Its new insight lies in abstracting the evolutionary logic of the income distribution system shifting from emphasizing efficiency to prioritizing equity and estimating the proportional relationship among the primary distribution, redistribution and third distribution. The study found that China's income distribution system follows the evolutionary logic of shifting from efficiency to equity. In addition, China has overcome egalitarianism, given priority to efficiency with due consideration to equity, and placed more emphasis on equity while balancing the relationship between equity and efficiency, promoting the four stages of common prosperity. Primary distribution, the dominant mechanism for income distribution, is required to provide an equitable distribution order. Redistribution, an important means of income distribution, needs to increase expenditures on people's living and social security. Third distribution, a useful supplement to income distribution, needs to design a policy system for incentive compatibility. This paper provides policy references for promoting common prosperity and conducting fundamental institutional arrangements for primary distribution, redistribution and third distribution. Motivation: The stability of the financial system means that the entire system performs its key functions properly. It is a prerequisite for sustained economic growth. Maintaining stability of the banking sector is of particular importance for the firmness of the financial system, as it plays a key role in financing the economy, transmission of monetary policy impulses, and monetary settlements. Therefore, in the context of financial security, it is extremely important to analyse the banking stability. Aim: Assessment of the stability of banking sectors of the Central and Eastern European EU Member States and a comparative analysis and classification of the CEE countries in terms of selected indicators characterising the stability of their banking sectors using the model method of linear ordering, i.e. the Hellwig's method. The analysis will verify the thesis whether banks in countries of lower national income (according to the World Bank's classification) perform worse in terms of stability than banks in countries of higher national income. To illustrate the situation in the field of banking sector stability more clearly, the authors presented the dynamics of all variables considered from the point of view of the analysis (dynamics were presented for 2015 and 2019 in relation to the base year, which was assumed to be 2011). Results: A multivariate analysis was used in the comparative analysis of banking sectors development in Central and Eastern Europe. For this purpose, the development pattern method was used so that a synthetic indicator of the development of the banking sector with regard to its stability was calculated. The paper provides an examination of interwar Latvia's national accounts, checking their usability for estimating interwar economic growth performance. Cambridge UP.], based on indirect estimation methods, Latvia's GDPpc growth rate from 1929 to 1938 was the highest in Europe. However, according to Aizsilnieks [(1968). Latvijas saimniecības vēsture, 1914–1945. Daugava.] interwar national income estimates show that the Latvian economy stagnated in the 1930s. This paper's main findings are that applying historical price indices to the existing interwar output estimates supports the stagnation thesis. However, the national income estimates lack validity and reliability due to unpersistent or unknown methodology. We need a desirable level of sustainable national economic development without environmental degradation. The key objective of this study is to explore the causal nexus in urbanization, industrialization, energy use, national income, international trade, and environmental pollution by carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in the six-member countries from the OPEC (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) over the period 1975–2018. This study is based on the modified empirical model of Kaya Identity introduced by Kaya (Impact of carbon dioxide emission control on GNP growth: interpretation of proposed scenarios, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change/Response Strategies Working Group, 1989). After checking the data for stationarity properties, we employed a fixed-effects estimator prefers by the Hausman test. We, in addition, employed the method of robust least squares to confirm the estimates. The empirical estimates reveal that regressors namely urbanization, industrialization, international trade, and energy use increase environmental pollution, while the impacts of income found are opposite. The Granger causality test exhibits a bidirectional causality among national income and CO2, urbanization and CO2, energy use and urbanization national income and urbanization, national income and industrialization, urbanization and industrialization, and exports and urbanization. These findings advise that the management authorities of OPEC countries need to adopt environmentally friendly policies, while regulating environmental pollution to accomplish sustainable economic development in the region. The Jobs of the World Project is a public resource designed to enable research on jobs and poverty across and within countries over the entire development spectrum. At its core is a new dataset assembled by harmonising Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) and National Censuses (IPUMS) for all countries and all years after 1990 where data is available. The current version covers 115 countries, observed four times on average. We use the data to show how the nature of jobs and their allocation vary within countries by wealth and gender and across countries by stages of development. We discuss evidence that shows how disparities at the micro level lead to a misuse of human potential that links individual poverty to national income. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We introduce a new approach to the analysis of attrition in South African longitudinal surveys by supplementing the public‐use data with paradata about the survey process and interview experience. The number of successfully interviewed respondents reduced from 7,073 in Wave 1 of NIDS‐CRAM to 5,676 in Wave 2—a level of attrition of almost 20%. We fit probit regression models to predict the determinants of attrition. In the fully specified model, attrition was most affected by contact effort by the survey organisation, the sample batch the respondent was in during Wave 1, employment status and whether they had a missing value for household income. Another important finding was that respondents who underwent COVID‐19 tests were 3% more likely to attrite, a trend that could negatively affect the efficacy of the survey to track COVID‐19 testing behaviour in future waves. Attrition was not influenced by how often respondents previously participated or refused in NIDS, the interviewer‐interviewee experience in the interview or by the respondent's observable demographic characteristics. Assessment of the potential of tourist and recreational clusters and objects of tourist activity remains relevant and still underdeveloped direction in tourism. The article aims to consider the peculiarities of the formation of the regional protentional of tourist and recreational clusters of the member state of the European Union. The methodological paradigm of the formation of potential of tourist and recreational clusters and a technique of its estimation based on systematics of tools and components, which essentially expand a network of the tourist and recreational industry, are substantiated. Methods of hierarchical classification were used. Results and interpretation of the study consists of the components of the competitiveness index for determining the regional level of potential of tourist and recreation clusters in countries in the areas of travel and tourism are presented. Indicators of competitiveness of the regional potential of tourist and recreational clusters are determined. The indicator of the integrated level of efficiency of the formation of regional protentional of tourist and recreational clusters offered. The number of tourists and recreational clusters on the EU member states has been determined. The share of regional potential of tourism and recreation clusters in terms of their total contribution to national income is calculated, as well as the average growth of national income from the projected value of regional potential of tourists and recreation clusters in EU member states.

Background: We examine the sensitivity of the Heyneman-Loxley Effect to the influence of an error-prone family background measure in 15 education systems from Southern and Eastern Africa. Our aim is to revisit a claim by Abby Riddell from the November 1989 issue of the Comparative Education Review concerning the reliability of family background measures and the estimation of the Heyneman-Loxley Effect. Three questions guide our study: does national income have an association with the reliability of a family background measure, is the association between a family background measure and student achievement sensitive to measurement error, and is the association between national income and the school effect sensitive to measurement error? Methods: Our analysis relies on the SACMEQ III data archive and, most importantly, a known error-prone family background measure (i.e., socioeconomic status index) and its corresponding measurement error (i.e., conditional standard error of measurement). For each SACMEQ III education system, we calculate the reliability of the socioeconomic status index and examine its association with national income. We use a Bayesian multilevel regression model to estimate naive and correction parameters representing the association between the socioeconomic status index and student achievement. Finally, we explore the associations between national income and the naive and correction estimates for the school effect across SACMEQ III education systems. Results: We observe three results. First, the association between national income and the reliability of the socioeconomic status index appears negative among SACMEQ III education systems (albeit questionable due to the small n-size and influential outliers). Second, the association between the socioeconomic status index and student achievement is sensitive to measurement error across content areas and SACMEQ III education systems. Third and finally, the association between national income and the school effect is insensitive to measurement error across content areas and SACMEQ III education systems. Conclusions: Throughout our study, we discuss measurement error, its consequences, and why the correction of error-prone family background measures is important. We highlight the need for auxiliary information for measurement error correction (e.g., reliability ratio, conditional standard error of measurement). Lastly, in addition to encouraging the correction of error-prone family background measures when attempting to replicate the Heyneman-Loxley Effect, we invite further research on improving the reliability and comparability of family background measures. Female comparative disadvantage refers to the mismatch of the female with respect to achievements in different dimensions of human well-being in comparison with the corresponding achievements of the male. This paper axiomatically derives a general family of female comparative disadvantage indicators which has very important policy implications. The axioms employed are shown to be 'independent'. An empirical illustration of the general index is provided using the UNDP data on mean years of schooling, life expectancy at birth and gross national income per capita in 2018. Results show that female comparative disadvantage is not necessarily related to standard measures of human development, such as the HDI, and is present even in countries reaching very high human development. The research aims to measure influences of the main variables in rural poverty in Iraq during 1990 – 2019, so it used descriptive and qualitative methods to show the subject. The research reaches throw results of unit root test that all the variables were un stable in the level, but all of them were stabled after first difference. The research proved it`s hypothesis that all structural changes can lead to reduce the rural poverty in Iraq, the study explained positive relationship among the dependent variable ( per capita of national income) and independent variables ( rural population, agricultural labor, planted area of crops and the using technology), where increase by 1 % in each of the independent variables lead to increase in share of national income by ( 1.02, 3.6, 0.19,0.55) % respectively, this study showed there are decreasing in ratio of agri. product in GDP during the study period between % 20.4 .4 1995 and % 2.4 in 2018 and that indicated dependency of Iraq in crude oil and don’t have care with agricultural sector. Since the birth of the formal Swedish development policy in 1962, the overarching goal of Swedish aid has been poverty reduction. While the goal has been up for revision four times (under two social democratic and two conservative governments) it has only been rephrased rather than reformed. In addition, Sweden's ambition to devote one per cent of its gross national income to development aid each year has been largely upheld since it was first achieved in 1975, save a period of 13 years (1993–2005, under the social democratic rule) where it was abandoned with reference to budgetary pressures. Aid was, however, never less than 0.7 per cent of GNI. Goals and volumes not being altered over time, even under government changes, suggest Swedish development cooperation policy has been formed under consensus. This apparent continuity, however, masks some important differences between political parties' policy preferences, and the stability may be better explained by large majorities being in favour of current policies than by consensus. I argue that the preconditions for those differing ideational positions to be translated into policy change are today quite favourable, suggesting that a policy paradigm shift, a 'radical policy change', may be in the making. This paper analyses the macroeconomic gains to Asia-Pacific economies from liberalising foreign investment flows. It first presents an intertemporal theoretical framework to convey, in principle, how higher national income stems from the narrowing of the gap between domestic and foreign rates of return on capital. Using a computable general equilibrium model it then empirically quantifies the impact on investment, the capital stocks, the external accounts and national income of a one percentage point reduction of the rate of return on capital due to further liberalisation of impediments to foreign investment. The results show national income gains for Asia-Pacific economies are on average around 0.3 percent per annum, which compounded through time implies significant long-term improvement in living standards in the region. • The inclusion rate of radiotherapy within 55% of NCCPs falls short of the 80% target set by GTFRCC. • Inclusion of radiotherapy specific planning in NCCPs varied according to income level and geography. • Prioritisation of radiotherapy in NCCPs is correlated with radiotherapy machine availability. • This study supports the importance of including radiotherapy in a country's NCCP. In 2015, the Global Task Force on Radiotherapy for Cancer Control (GTFRCC) called for 80% of National Cancer Control Plans (NCCP) to include radiotherapy by 2020. As part of the ongoing ESTRO Global Impact of Radiotherapy in Oncology (GIRO) project, we assessed whether inclusion of radiotherapy in NCCPs correlates with radiotherapy machine availability, national income, and geographic region. A previously validated checklist was used to determine whether radiotherapy was included in each country's NCCP. We applied the CCORE optimal radiotherapy utilisation model to the GLOBOCAN 2020 data to estimate the demand for radiotherapy and compared this to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Directory of Radiotherapy Centres (DIRAC) supply data, stratifying by income level and world region. World regions were defined according to the IAEA. Complete data (including GLOBOCAN 2020, DIRAC and NCCP) was available for 143 countries. Over half (55%, n = 79) included a radiotherapy-specific checklist item within the plan. Countries which included radiotherapy services planning in their NCCP had a higher median number of machines (1.68 vs 0.75 machines/1000 patients needing radiotherapy, p < 0.001). There was significant regional and income-level heterogeneity in the inclusion of radiotherapy-related items in NCCPs. Low-income and Asia-Pacific countries were least likely to include radiation oncology services planning in their NCCP (p = 0.06 and p = 0.003, respectively). Few countries in the Asia-Pacific (18.6%) had a plan to develop or maintain radiation services, compared to 57% of countries in Europe. Only 55% of current NCCPs included any information regarding radiotherapy, below the GTFRCC's target of 80%. Prioritisation of radiotherapy in NCCPs was correlated with radiotherapy machine availability. There was regional and income-level heterogeneity regarding the inclusion of specific radiotherapy checklist items in the NCCPs. Ongoing efforts are needed to promote the inclusion of radiotherapy in future iterations of NCCPs in order to improve global access to radiation treatment. National highway projects present a crucial role in economic growth, as they have a great influence on the national income. Therefore, the decision makers plan to construct these projects at a rapid rate. To achieve the just aforesaid, the utilization of asphalt of adequate quality and gradation is essential. The key problem which lies in recent decades is that many types of asphalt mixtures are rejected and reconstructed in the site due to the gradation variation of aggregates in the asphalt mixture which waste raw materials, cost and time. Thus, this research seeks to assess the possibility of accepting asphalt mixes with aggregates gradation variation (within the range from +4% above the upper specification limit to −2% below the lower specification limit). A wearing surface mix with gradation 3B was prepared according to the Egyptian code. The gradation variation was presented as the aggregate gradation is out of the specification limits during Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) production. The aggregate gradations lie above and below the upper and lower specification limits, respectively, by ±2%, ±4% and ±6%. The design gradation of the control mix was included as a reference case. The different mix properties were measured using the Marshall Mix design method. Then, the performance of HMA mixes was evaluated under the effects of high temperature and water cycles through applying wheel loading tracking and Indirect Tensile Strength (ITS) tests. The results show that the 3B mixes with a gradation within a range of +4% to −2% of the upper and lower specification limits recorded the lowest rutting depth and the highest water damage resistance in hot regions compared to ordinary asphalt mixes. In summary, the new aggregate gradation limits will provide a reference for the design of asphalt mixture in hot climate regions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Geographic location and national income may influence access to innovation in healthcare. We aimed to study if geographical location and national income influenced the timelines to activate the global phase III APHINITY trial, evaluating adjuvant pertuzumab in patients with HER2-positive early breast cancer. Methods: Time from regulatory authority (RA) submission to approval (RAA), time to Ethics Committee/Institutional Review Board (EC/IRB) approval, time from study approval by EC/IRB to first randomised patient and from first to last randomised patient were collected. Analyses were conducted grouping countries by geographical region or economic income classification. Results: Forty-one countries (of 42) had data available regarding all relevant timelines. No statistical difference was observed between the time to RAA and geographical region (p = 0.47), although there was a trend to longer time to RAA in upper middle-income economies (p = 0.07). Except for time from first to last patient randomised, there was wide variation in timelines overall and within geographical regions and economic income groups. Conclusions: Geographical location and income classification did not appear to be the major drivers influencing time for clinical trial activation. This study, which analyzes the fiscal fatigue attitude for Turkey over the period 1970-2019, aims to detect the debt threshold to which the primary surplus cannot respond, with the help of the fiscal reaction function. The findings of the analysis, in which the cointegration relationship between the series is estimated with the Fully Modified Ordinary Least Squares Method, confirm that when the ratio of public debt to national income rises above the level of 64.52% fiscal fatigue begins and at this point the ratio of the primary surplus to national income is 10.83%. In other words, it is possible to pronounce that the economy cannot react to a public debt of over 64.52% and there is no possibility to increase the primary surplus by more than 10.83%. Turkey, which has a fiscally fragile structure, should not compromise on fiscal discipline against macroeconomic shocks in terms of debt sustainability, and gingerly monitor the course of public debt in terms of fiscal policy sustainability. Theoretically based on national income accounting identities, the Feldstein-Horioka hypothesis downplays, if not totally ignores, the influence of monetary factors on international capital mobility. Recognizing the historical development of economics and the institutional arrangements of the exchange rate regime, this study extends the theoretical framework by integrating the balance of payments and national income accounting equations to show that domestic investment is related to not only domestic saving and international capital flows but also changes in the domestic money supply and credit creation. Panel data regression results for the original Feldstein-Horioka sample – 20 OECD countries over the years 1960 – 1974 – empirically support the theory. In contrast to the Feldstein- Horioka findings, a lower saving-investment coefficient is found, suggesting higher international capital mobility though still with some degree of home bias. Overall, this study illustrates the importance of money, history of economics and economic institutions in understanding and resolving the Feldstein-Horioka puzzle. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
