- Abstract
Background: Mental health is an integral part of health. Having some psychiatric condition without treatment predisposes to a poor quality of life. These alterations have been found with an incidence of up to 50% in the general population. There are very few studies in Mexico on these conditions in health workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Objective: To determine the prevalence of stress, anxiety, and depression during the COVID-19 pandemic in health workers. Material and methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional observational study was conducted on health workers in a tertiary hospital, through the application of randomized and self-completed surveys, in search of levels of stress, anxiety, and depression during the COVID-19 pandemic. Results: 44.7% of those surveyed showed depression, 83.1% anxiety, and 66.3% stress. The main groups affected were female staff, singles, and medical residents. Those with type 2 diabetes mellitus had higher anxiety and depression. Conclusion: The prevalence of stress, anxiety, and depression in health workers is similar to that of the general population in our study. Depression was the alteration most found. The scrutiny of alterations in mental health in health workers is of the utmost importance, with greater emphasis in the context of the aforementioned pandemic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Healthcare workers have been under intense stress in the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic when they faced situations that threatened or challenged their basic psychological needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness, and they may present mental health problems. Seeking to help these professionals in the hospital context, this article presents the theoretical bases and procedures for the development of a psychoeducational booklet for coping with stress. An integrative literature review and an online survey with 141 healthcare workers from hospitals in Brazil, Colombia, Peru, and Argentina were carried out to identify the main stressors and coping strategies. This material was organized according to the motivational theory of coping into charts with recommendations on what to do and avoid and boards for alternative communication. The booklet was evaluated by 17 expert health judges, obtaining good correlation coefficients for relevance content (.98) and for clarity of language (.92). With a Spanish version, its application possibilities are expanded. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Introduction: the consumption of non-nutritive sweeteners (NNS) has increased. Recent studies have reported possible metabolic effects of NNS, and this may influence the perception regarding their consumption in the general population and health professionals. Objective: to describe and compare the beliefs about NNS in consumers, non-consumers, and health professionals; and to explore the reasons and opinions of health professionals for recommending or not their consumption. Methods: surveys were applied to 100 consumers, 100 non-consumers and 100 health professionals (dietitians and physicians) to evaluate a positive, negative, or neutral attitude towards certain beliefs regarding NNS, including the information they have, safety, price, side effects and taste. In addition, the opinion of health professionals for recommending or not the consumption of NNS and the related reasons was evaluated. Results: statistically significant differences regarding the safety, side effects and taste of NNS were found between the three groups (p < 0.01). The most frequent opinion of health professionals (48 %) is that NNS should be limited, used as a transition and in certain patients. Consumers tend to have a more positive opinion about NNS except for the price, non-consumers have a more neutral position except for taste, and health professionals have a more negative perception of NNS in all aspects. Conclusions: the beliefs regarding NNS differed among the studied groups, which might influence their consumption or recommendation of its use. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

From an interpretative, qualitative paradigm with a content analysis approach, a process based on three phases was conducted: pre-analysis in which categories were identified, the projection of the analysis, and inductive analysis. During 2023, interviews were conducted in the clinical setting of a high-complexity hospital in Chile with 56 members of the healthcare teams from critical and emergency units, from which four categories emerged: a) the risk of violating patients’ rights by using do-not-resuscitate orders and limiting therapeutic effort; b) the gap in the interpretation of the legal framework addressing the care and attention of patients at the end of life or with terminal illnesses by the healthcare team; c) ethical conflicts in end-of-life care; and d) efficient care versus holistic care in patients with terminal illness. There are significant gaps in bioethics training and aspects of a good death in healthcare teams facing the directive to limit therapeutic effort and not resuscitate.

- Abstract
Introduction: In 2009, the first position statement was made on the incorporation of the group of Dietitians-Nutritionists in the National Health System, updated in 2020. In 2023, the Official College of Dietitians-Nutritionists of the Valencian Community proposes an update based on this, including a forecast of the human resources necessary to meet these criteria, highlighting that 770 places would be needed throughout the Valencian Community. This study complements this report, establishing the priority of unit integration based on the expert’s criteria.Methodology: An exploratory study was proposed using Delphi methodology, as a prospective consensus process, involving a group of experts (n=12) who responded anonymously to two successive questionnaires electronically; firstly, with a pre-selection of 6 of the 28 health units presented, and secondly, ordering from most to least priority the 28 indicated units. Results: The results of both methods indicate that the integration of DNs in the Dietetics and Nutrition, Oncology, Digestive System, Endocrinology and Dialysis units is a higher priority. Other health units with variable priority are General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Nephrology and Cardiology. Both methods reflect that the units of Urology, Hospitalization at Home, Anesthesia and Resuscitation, Psychiatry, or the units of non-general surgery (thoracic, cardiac, neurological) would be the least priority for the integration of these professionals. Conclusions: Exploratory studies such as the one presented above can help the public administration to establish care priorities.

- Abstract
Depression is conceived as a psych emotional condition that causes cognitive, emotional and behavioral disturbance, characterized by a sad, empty or irritable mood, accompanied by biological, cognitive and somatic changes. During the last three years, several studies support an increase in depression in health personnel after the COVID-19 pandemic. For this reason, the general objective of this research was to describe the levels of depression and spiritual coping strategies of General Physicians in Hospital Functions at the José Carrasco Arteaga Specialty Hospital during the period 2022-2023. It had a quantitative approach, a nonexperimental, transversal design type and was descriptive in scope. The instruments applied were: Beck Depression Inventory and Spiritual Coping Strategies Scale. The results of a sample of 71 doctors indicated levels of depression from mild to severe with a predominance of moderate level. In relation to the use of religious coping strategies and the most frequently used non-religious coping strategies, religious coping strategies had a low frequency of use, and non-religious strategies had a high frequency. There was a statistically significant association between the tendency to use or not use religious and non-religious coping strategies with the tendency to present depression or not. That is, doctors who had greater use of religious spiritual coping strategies had lower levels of depression, while doctors who had greater use of non-religious spiritual coping strategies had higher levels of depression.

Burnout Syndrome is composed of three dimensions: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal achievement. High levels in the first two and low levels in the last one make the diagnosis. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of Burnout Syndrome and its dimensions in the active health personnel of the emergency areas (adults, obstetric and pediatric) of the Autonomous Institute University Hospital of Los Andes (IAHULA) in Mérida-Venezuela, during the months from September to October 2020 within the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. An observational, descriptive and cross-sectional research study was carried out among 227 resident doctors and specialists, nursing staff, workers and technicians who worked in the area. A questionnaire was used to collect socio-demographic data and the Maslach Burnout Inventory - Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS) was used to determine the presence of Burnout Syndrome through a physical and digital survey. According to the workers interviewed, 18.9% presented complete criteria to be diagnosed with Burnout Syndrome; with global high levels of Emotional Exhaustion (34%), Depersonalization (30.8%), and low levels of Personal Achievement (52%). A higher frequency of syndrome was observed in doctors or technicians (p = 0.001), and personnel belonging to the pediatrics emergency service (p = 0.0001), as well as in younger individuals (p = 0.012). The prevalence of Burnout Syndrome is higher than what was observed in previous studies in the same population, but the impression is that this increase is not related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Introduction: Healthcare workers (HCWs) are considered an at-risk population for hepatitis C virus (HCV) transmission. Seroprevalence of HCV in Mexico is 1.4% and is similar in HCWs at 0.5–2%. Aim: To determine the seroprevalence of HCV in HCWs at the Hospital de Especialidades Centro Médico Nacional La Raza (HECMNR) and correlate the positive cases with the viral load. Materials and methods: An observational, longitudinal, descriptive study was conducted on HCWs at the HECMNR that voluntarily answered a risk factor questionnaire and gave a capillary blood sample for detecting antibodies to HCV. Anti-HCV antibody detection was performed through the rapid colloidal gold-enhanced immunochromatographic assay for the qualitative identification of antibodies to HCV. When positive, quantitative HCV RNA PCR testing was carried out. Results: A total of 391 rapid anti-HCV tests were performed and the mean participant age was 32 years. A total of 214 (54.73%) of the HCWs belonged to clinical services, 120 (30.69%) to surgical services, and 57 (14.57%) to the nursing service; 254 (64.96%) participants were medical residents and 137 (35%) were staff personnel. The most prevalent risk factors were accidental puncture wounds (n = 261, 66.75%) and dental procedures (n = 229, 58.56%). Four samples (1.02%) were positive for anti-HCV antibodies and the HCV RNA PCR test was not positive in any of the samples. Conclusions: HCWs did not have a greater seroprevalence for HCV, compared with the general population, and no cases of viremia were reported.

Introduction: To reduce disease transmission and mortality associated with COVID-19, planning for short-term preparedness should include the large-scale application of measures such as case detection and isolation, contact tracing, and follow-up quarantine. Healthcare workers, many of them in the red zone, are often subject to occupational exposure from known or suspected sources of COVID-19 during specific medical procedures, mortuary work, or laboratory procedures. The Ministry of Public Health has implemented an Action Protocol that provides for the protection of the health of occupationally exposed workers who must undergo medical controls to detect early manifestations of COVID. Objective: To contribute to surveillance of the health of sanitary personnel after occupational exposition to SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. Material and method: It was review some literature about symptoms and clinical signs frequently in patients who were with COVID-19 to design a methodology for a medical assessment to detect early pathological effects related with the occupational exposition to SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. Results: A form for a preventive medical exam was developed considering somatic and functional pathological signs that are usually caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infection and/or the psychosocial risks associated with work performance.

Introduction: Health personnel represent the first response of the health system in the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, it is important to assess their knowledge about the identification and care of patients with COVID-19. Objective: To identify the factors associated with the perception of knowledge of Peruvian resident physicians regarding the care of patients with COVID-19 and to describe the perception of mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: Cross-sectional study, carried out in 2020 in hospitals in Peru. The "Perception of Knowledge in Health Workers" scale was used (Cronbach's Alpha: 0.77). And also, the "Mental Health COVID-19" scale was used (Cronbach's Alpha: 0.88). Bivariate and multivariate statistics were performed. Results: Of the 200 respondents, 12% and 5% stated that they were able to recognize a suspected case and care for a diagnosed patient, respectively; 41% and 35% strongly agreed with the fear/concern of infecting their family and feeling mistreatment due to the lack of personal protective equipment, respectively. In the multivariate analysis, the perception of knowledge was associated with working in emergencies (p= 0.007), with the number of positive friends for COVID-19 (p= 0.012) and with having recently undergone intubation (p= 0.035); these were adjusted by the mental health perception score. Conclusions: Working in emergencies, having had contact with infected patients and having performed medical-surgical procedures influence the perception of knowledge of doctors about the care of patients with COVID-19.

DENTAL personnel , *MEDICAL personnel , *HEALTH care teams , *DENTAL care , *FAMILY health - Abstract
The aim of the study was to analyze the perception of primary care workers about the interprofessional performance of the oral health teams (OHT). With a descriptive and qualitative approach, semi-structured and audio-recorded interviews, were conducted individually in a closed environment, with professionals from the Family Health Strategy (FHS) and the Expanded Nucleus of Family Health and Primary Care (ENFH-PC) from the city of Londrina, PR, Brazil. Thus, the sample consisted of: two dentists, two nurses, two pharmacists, two physiotherapists, two physicians, two nutritionists, two physical education professionals and two psychologists. The semi-structured script consisted of two parts: the first with questions about the professional profile of respondents and the second with guiding questions about the perception of interprofessional work, knowledge of the activities performed by the dentist and OHT, as well as the integration and articulation of OHT with other health professionals (potentialities and weaknesses). Using the Bardin Content Analysis technique, the answers were grouped into analysis categories: a) workers' perceptions regarding interprofessional work, b) integration between Dentistry and c) FHS/ENFH-PC, and Dentistry's potentialities and weaknesses in interprofessional practice. With the insertion of Dentistry in the FHS expanded access to dental services, a point highlighted as potentiality. However, the activities developed by OHT remained associated with the technical and individual procedures. It was concluded that interprofessional practices are still a challenge for dental workers in the FHS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has had repercussions in the social, economic, psychological and health spheres, for which risk and exposure groups have been identified. Health workers are distinguished from the rest of the population by constant contact with patients carrying the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Objetive: To determine the difference in the incidence of COVID-19 in health workers who remain in work activity and those who shelter at home. Material and methods: Cohort study in health workers from March 2020 to January 2021. Two groups were integrated, the exposed group made up of workers who remained working in the health unit (n = 4650) and the non-exposed group, those who carried out home protection (n = 337). When the groups were integrated, none had a diagnosis of COVID-19, they were followed up for 11 months and when COVID-19 was diagnosed, it was done with a PCR test. Statistical analysis included incidence rate, confidence intervals, Chi square, relative risk, and confidence interval for relative risk. Results: The incidence of COVID-19 in workers in home shelter was 39.8% (95% CI: 34.6-45.0) and in workers who remained in the medical unit 16.0% (95% CI: 14.9-17.1). The relative risk was 0.40 (95% CI: 0.34-0.47) for workers who remained working in the health unit. Conclusion: The incidence of COVID-19 was higher in health workers with home protection than in those who continued with normal activities in the medical unit. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To describe the sociodemographic characteristics and determine the factors associated with psychological manifestations of depression, anxiety, and stress in healthcare workers in the context of COVID-19 pandemic in health facilities in Peru during the month of May 2020. Methods: An analytical cross-sectional study was conducted out in healthcare workers of hospital establishments in Peru. To evaluate the outcome of interest, we administered a structured questionnaire that asked about type of healthcare personnel; sociodemographic characteristics; Generalized Anxiety Disorder scale (GAD-7); Patient Health Questionnaire scale (PHQ-9); and the Revised Stressor Impact scale (IES-R). We used generalized linear Poisson models, with a logarithmic link function and robust variance. Results: Out of 258 respondents, 254 completed the survey; 61.8% were women; the most common work area was emergency department or hospitalization (inpatient) services (62.2%). The median PHQ-9 score was 4 points (IQR: 2-7); for the GAD-7, it was 6 points (IQR: 4-8), and for the IES-R, 16 points (IQR: 8-24). The multivariate analysis showed that being a physician was associated with less anxiety (PR: 0.77; 95% CI: 0.62-0.94), whereas living alone was associated with a greater risk of depression (PR: 1.46; 95% CI: 1.11-1.92). Conclusions: Healthcare personnel are at risk of manifesting psychological alterations, mainly associated with the female gender, non-medical personnel and living alone. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

HAND care & hygiene , *MEDICAL personnel as patients , *MEDICAL personnel , *RECOLLECTION (Psychology) , *WORK environment - Abstract
To identify factors associated with non-adherence to hand hygiene by health professionals. Integrative review of eight selected studies using a search strategy based on health descriptors (DeCs), in the databases BDENF, LILACS, Medline via VHL. Factors are evidenced such as work overload, skin irritation, infrastructure, replacement of MH by gloves, knowledge gaps, forgetfulness, lack of incentive, lack of input and the divergence of professional categories. Factors related to the system and the work environment were also highlighted. HM and ARIs are still a multifactorial root problem, so intervention actions should be aimed both at the professional who works directly with the patient, as well as for hospital managers. In addition, further studies that address this issue are needed, so that it is possible to promote more effective strategies for proper hand hygiene. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
