Abstract

Metabolite annotations and tandem MS fragmentation patterns of compound detected in EBC. EBC was collected from four groups of volunteers: healthy smokers, healthy non-smokers, non-smokers with nasal congestion, and non-smokers with the common cold. Samples were pooled, lyophilized, reconstituted in 20Â ÎźL of buffer, and analyzed using LC-MS based metabolomics. Metabolite peaks were extracted with Mass Hunter Profinder software (Agilent) using exact mass and isotope ratios. Tandem MS was performed, spectra was exported to NIST MS Search v2.2, and matched to the NIST14 Mass Spectral library. Abstract

The Regional Skills Program at Big Bend Community College (BBCC) was developed to offer vocational skills training to high school students within BBCC's 5,000 square miles district. The objectives of the program were to identify training needs and priorities, determine the availability of transportation to BBCC, survey college and district facilities, create a standard contract to be used with the school districts involved, evaluate the current program, and establish an implementation plan. Project outcomes included the following: (1) a survey of local high schools regarding their educational priorities revealed a need for training in allied health occupations, agribusiness, greenhouse propagation, business, home economics, and industrial-technical occupations; (2) survey findings, labor market information, and feedback from school personnel underscored the need for a review process for current and future vocational education programs; an updated, competency-based vocational curriculum; and articulation between BBCC's and high schools' vocational programs; (3) the large size of the BBCC district necessitated consideration of such options as satellite programs, mobile classrooms, and itinerant teachers for rural areas; (4) discussions with school district superintendents resulted in agreement on a standardized document allowing BBCC to separately contract with each school district; (5) interviews with administrators, teachers, students, and parents suggested that the Regional Skills Program had increased student interest, improved the retention of at-risk students, added variety to high school programs, and increased 1989-90 enrollments in the BBCC's high school automotive, cosmetology, and welding classes by 53% from the previous year; and (6) a five-year timeline for program implementation was developed. 221. Understanding K-feldspar 40Ar/39Ar data: reconciling models, methods and microtextures

Abstract

Several descriptions of argon diffusion in K-feldspar have been developed, including the quantitative multiple-diffusion-domain (MDD) and multipath models and the qualitative ‘recrystallization’ model. These models remain contentious and the natural range in behaviour remains poorly understood. Feldspars from the Klokken syenite intrusion show a systematic relationship between 40Ar/39Ar age and microtexture suggesting that the loss of argon from different feldspars operates via different mechanisms such that the existing models represent only end-member scenarios. The MDD model can yield reliable thermal history information only for feldspars with pristine microtexture, with this model best viewed as a cipher for the real (but unknown) domain structure in such samples.

Abstract

When writing center administrators (WCAs) consider educating tutors, they do so with a range of perspectives in mind. Tutors need to first be confident in both their tutoring and writing abilities. I Iowever, new tutors must also be able to put themselves in the perspective of a struggling student writer who they may work with in a tutoring session. In this article, we conceptualize this issuedealing with self-efficacy or "people's beliefs in their abilities to produce given attainments" (Bandura 307). Research has begun to explore this topic (Nowacek and I Iughes), but has not specifically called this "self-efficacy." Composition research has a long history of examining self-efficacv, but little research has explored tutors' self-efficacy. This research has nor examined the relationship between tutoring and writing self-efficacies, nor has previously research considered how tutoring experience may impact selfefficacy. To extend this conversation, we developed and administered a suney to writing center tutors across the US to answer the following research questions: What are tutors' writing and tutoring self-efficacies? Do tutors' writing and tutoring selfefficacies correlate? Do experienced tutors have different writing and tutoring self-efficacies than new tutors? Results indicated that tutors had high writing and tutoring self-efficacies (mean scores were from 80-100), but the range varied pre try significantly (ranges for writing were 40-100 and ranges for tutoring were 49-100). Writing and tutoring self-efficacy scores were strongly correlated (r=.815 and p =.001). Finally, tutoring self-efficacy and tutoring experience were weakly correlated (r=. 1S6 and p =.025). These results suggest that tutoring and writing self-efficacies inform one another and that tutors have different experiences with developing self-efficacy with their tutoring and writing, which suggests that tutoring and writing self-efficacy is very individualized.
