Recently, omnidirectional wireless power transfer (WPT) has gained increasing popularity due to its capability to charge in arbitrary positions and directions. However, existing solutions still face several challenges, including coupled coils, non-optimized structure, non-uniform magnetic field, and poor misalignment tolerance. This work proposes an omnidirectional WPT system with three fully decoupled coils consisting of one square coil and two perpendicular DD coils. Abstract Background Male patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) tend to have poorer prognosis compared to females, partially attributable to a higher rate of lymph node metastasis (LNM). Developing a precise predictive model for LNM occurrence in male PTC patients is imperative. While preliminary predictive models exist, there is room to improve accuracy. Further research is needed to create optimized prognostic models specific to LNM prediction in male PTC cases. Methods We conducted a comprehensive search of publicly available microarray datasets to identify candidate genes continuously upregulated or downregulated during PTC progression in male patients only. Univariate Cox analysis and lasso regression were utilized to construct an 11-gene signature predictive of LNM. TIPARP emerged as a key candidate gene, which we validated at the protein level using immunohistochemical staining. A prognostic nomogram incorporating the signature and clinical factors was developed based on the TCGA cohort. Results The 11-gene signature demonstrated good discriminative performance for LNM prediction in training and validation datasets. High TIPARP expression associated with advanced stage, high T stage, and presence of LNM. A prognostic nomogram integrating the signature and clinical variables reliably stratified male PTC patients into high and low recurrence risk groups. Conclusions We identified a robust 11-gene signature and prognostic nomogram for predicting LNM occurrence in male PTC patients. We propose TIPARP as a potential contributor to inferior outcomes in males, warranting further exploration as a prognostic biomarker and immunotherapeutic target. Our study provides insights into the molecular basis for gender disparities in PTC.

One of the main diseases that adversely impacts the global citrus industry is citrus bacterial canker (CBC), caused by the bacteria Xanthomonas citri subsp. citri (Xcc). Response to CBC is a complex process, with both protein-DNA as well as protein–protein interactions for the regulatory network. To detect such interactions in CBC resistant regulation, a citrus high-throughput screening system with 203 CBC-inducible transcription factors (TFs), were developed. Screening the upstream regulators of target by yeast-one hybrid (Y1H) methods was also performed. A regulatory module of CBC resistance was identified based on this system. One TF (CsDOF5.8) was explored due to its interactions with the 1-kb promoter fragment of CsPrx25, a resistant gene of CBC involved in reactive oxygen species (ROS) homeostasis regulation. Electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA), dual-LUC assays, as well as transient overexpression of CsDOF5.8, further validated the interactions and transcriptional regulation. The CsDOF5.8–CsPrx25 promoter interaction revealed a complex pathway that governs the regulation of CBC resistance via H2O2 homeostasis. The high-throughput Y1H/Y2H screening system could be an efficient tool for studying regulatory pathways or network of CBC resistance regulation. In addition, it could highlight the potential of these candidate genes as targets for efforts to breed CBC-resistant citrus varieties.

The AlCoCrFeNi2.1 eutectic high-entropy alloy (Ni2.1 EHEA), as an exemplary representative of the high-entropy alloy family, has garnered significant research attention owing to its exceptional comprehensive properties. In this study, we investigated the influence of various growth velocities on the microstructure, lamellar spacing, and mechanical properties of the Ni2.1 EHEA. We observed that at lower growth velocities, the structure consisted of an alternating face-centered-cubic (FCC) phase and B2 phase lamellae aligned in a single direction, with the lamellae orientation parallel to the direction of the heat flow. The yield strength increased with the growth rate, while the ultimate tensile strength decreased with increasing the growth velocity. Ductility remained relatively consistent, and a double yield phenomenon was observed in the elastic-plastic deformation region. Under conditions of high growth velocities, the microstructure transitioned from a single-directional full lamellar structure to a multi-stage lamellar arrangement. The most favorable comprehensive mechanical properties were achieved at a growth rate of 200 μm/s, resulting in a yield strength of 450 MPa, an ultimate tensile strength of 1092 MPa, and a remarkable ductility of ∼32% in the directionally solidified samples—double that of the arc-melted sample. The evolution law of directional solidification structures under the coupling effect of different magnetic fields and different growth rates was studied. The interaction of the thermoelectric-magnetic force and thermoelectric-magnetic convection and the potential mechanism of microstructure evolution under the effect of magnetic field were deeply analyzed. The results reveal that at a growth rate of 2 μm/s, the spacing between eutectic layers decreases as the magnetic induction intensity increases, leading to the transformation of some regular layers into spherical layers. Similarly, at a growth velocity of 10 μm/s, the eutectic structure exhibited a Columnar-to-equiaxed transition (CET). However, as the growth rate further increases, the limited exposure time to the magnetic field prevented significant structural changes.

Abstract Radiopharmaceuticals play a vital role in cancer therapy. The carrier of radiopharmaceuticals can precisely locate and guide radionuclides to the target, where radionuclides kill surrounding tumor cells. Effective application of radiopharmaceuticals depends on the selection of an appropriate carrier. Herein, different types of carriers of radiopharmaceuticals and the characteristics are briefly described. Subsequently, we review radiolabeled monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) and their derivatives, and novel strategies of radiolabeled mAbs and their derivatives in the treatment of lymphoma and colorectal cancer. Furthermore, this review outlines radiolabeled peptides, and novel strategies of radiolabeled peptides in the treatment of neuroendocrine neoplasms, prostate cancer, and gliomas. The emphasis is given to heterodimers, bicyclic peptides, and peptide-modified nanoparticles. Last, the latest developments and applications of radiolabeled nucleic acids and small molecules in cancer therapy are discussed. Thus, this review will contribute to a better understanding of the carrier of radiopharmaceuticals and the application in cancer therapy.

Abstract Background Stroke is the second leading cause of death worldwide, and observational studies have suggested a correlation between antioxidants and reduced stroke risk. However, it remains unclear whether causal relationships exist. Methods This study first performed a cross-sectional study of the association between the Composite Dietary Antioxidant Index (CDAI) and stroke using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2007–2018. Second, a two-sample univariable Mendelian Randomization (MR) was performed to analyze the causal effect of circulating levels of antioxidants on different subtypes of stroke. Results The cross-sectional study included a total of 24,892 participants representing more than 200 million US non-institutionalized residents, a multivariable logistic regression model revealed that the risk of stroke decreased by 3.4% for each unit increase in CDAI (P = 0.017), with a non-linear association found, indicating a reduction in stroke risk before an inflection point of 3.078. MR analysis revealed that genetically determined levels of retinol had a suggestive protective effect on subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) (OR = 0.348, P = 0.025), and genetically determined levels of selenium had a suggestive protective effect against SAH (OR = 0.826, P = 0.007). However, no causal relationship was found between antioxidants and ischemic stroke or intracranial hemorrhage risk. Conclusions Evidence suggests that diet-derived antioxidants may reduce the risk of stroke, as indicated by the protective effects of retinol and selenium against SAH. However, more research is needed to fully understand how antioxidants prevent stroke.

Abstract According to statistics, the incidence of liver cancer is increasing yearly, and effective treatment of liver cancer is imminent. For early liver cancer, resection surgery is currently the most effective treatment. However, resection does not treat the disease in advanced patients, so finding a method with a better prognosis is necessary. In recent years, ferroptosis and cuproptosis have been gradually defined, and related studies have proved that they show excellent results in the therapy of liver cancer. Cuproptosis is a new form of cell death, and the use of cuproptosis combined with ferroptosis to inhibit the production of hepatocellular carcinoma cells has good development prospects and is worthy of in-depth discussion by researchers. In this review, we summarize the research progress on cuproptosis combined with ferroptosis in treating liver cancer, analyze the value of cuproptosis and ferroptosis in the immune of liver cancer, and propose potential pathways in oncotherapy with the combination of cuproptosis and ferroptosis, which can provide background knowledge for subsequent related research.

Abstract Background We investigated the synergistic effect of stress and habitual salt preference (SP) on blood pressure (BP) in the hospitalized Omicron-infected patients. Methods From 15,185 hospitalized Omicron-infected patients who reported having high BP or hypertension, we recruited 662 patients. In this paper, a deep learning-based cooperative semantic communication system is proposed on relay channels. In order to enhance the reliability and adaptability of the system to varying channel conditions, an on-demand semantic forwarding framework is established, where the relay attempts to recover and re-transmit the source semantic information, as required by the destination. To be specific, for determining whether a semantic forwarding is needed from the relay, a semantic similarity check $(\textit {SSC})$ is proposed, based on which the degree of semantic information recovery at the destination can be accurately estimated. On the other hand, in order to effectively merge the semantic information received through different paths, a semantic combining $(\textit {SeC})$ method is proposed by combining the semantic features abstracted from both the direct link and the relay link. For achieving a desirable performance trade-off between the degree of semantic information recovery and the transmit energy consumption, a new metric of semantic energy efficiency (SEE) is proposed. Simulation results verify the performance gains achieved by the proposed cooperative semantic communication system with on-demand semantic forwarding, as compared to the state-of-the-art schemes employing separate source-channel coding in low-to-medium signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regimes. Furthermore, as compared to the case with always-forwarding, almost the same performance is achieved by the proposed on-demand forwarding, but with lower energy consumption.

The Charpy impact toughness is a crucial mechanical parameter in the application of materials within the realm of engineering. This study represents the pioneering investigation into the influence of different building directions on the Charpy impact toughness of NiTi shape memory alloys (SMAs) produced via laser powder bed fusion (LPBF). Texture analysis reveals that C0 and C90 exhibit a pronounced // building direction (BA), while C45 demonstrates a strong texture along and . The impact test results demonstrate that C0 exhibits superior impact toughness with an absorbed energy of 12.87 J. The fractured surfaces are examined using the scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). Among them, the electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) results indicate that the samples with higher geometrically necessary dislocation (GND) and kernel average misorientation (KAM) values can effectively reflect superior impact toughness. In contrast, fewer high-angle grain boundaries (HAGBs) are preferable. Due to the adiabatic effect, the phase transformation of the samples from austenite to martensite doesn't appear under the impact loading. Additionally, this paper discusses the impact of texture orientation, defects, and the relationship between loading direction and deposited layers on the impact toughness of the samples. These findings on impact properties would provide valuable guidance for engineering applications of NiTi SMAs.

With the development of the internet of things, a large number of user device (UD) were connected to cellular network.Since the changes in the spatial distribution of UD and application requirements, it is necessary to dynamically adjust the UD’ offloading decision.Comprehensively considering various parameter information in the networks such as the spatial distribution of UD, application requirements, and the processing capability of the edge servers on the base station (BS) side, the offloading decision of UD were optimized from the perspective of distribution.Based on the optimal transport theory, a delay optimization algorithm was proposed to reduce the average delay of the UD’ computing tasks offloading process by reasonably planning the offloading BS of the UD in the networks.The simulation results show that the average delay can be reduced by 81.06% using the proposed offloading mechanism based on delay optimization, and the traffic handled by each BS is balanced.

Abstract Background It is controversial whether antibiotic should be used prophylactically 48 h after pancreatic surgery. Hence, the association of antibiotic prophylaxis (AP) after 48 h postoperatively with the incidence of surgical site infections (SSIs) and other healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) in patients receiving pancreatic surgery was evaluated. Methods A retrospective cohort analysis was performed on 1073 patients who underwent pancreatic surgery. These patients were categorized into the non-AP after 48 h postoperatively group (n = 963) and the AP after 48 h postoperatively group (n = 110) based on whether or not they obtained AP from 48 h to 30 days after surgery. Outcomes included SSIs and other HAIs. Results The incidence of SSIs in the non-AP after 48 h postoperatively group (98/963, 10.2%) was notably lower than that in the AP after 48 h postoperatively group (22/110, 20.0%) (P = 0.002). Other HAIs incidence was not significantly different between the non-AP after 48 h postoperatively group (77/963, 8.0%) and the AP after 48 h postoperatively group (11/110, 10.0%) (P = 0.468). Multiple regression analysis demonstrated that AP after 48 h postoperatively was a risk factor for SSIs (OR = 2.14, 95% CI 1.28–3.59) but not for other HAIs (OR = 1.24, 95% CI 0.63–2.42) after adjustment for age, gender, and diabetes. Subsequent to adjustment for all confounding factors, AP after 48 h postoperatively was not a influence factor for SSIs (OR = 2.13, 95% CI 0.76–5.99) and other HAIs (OR = 3.69, 95% CI 0.99–13.81). Conclusions AP after 48 h postoperatively following pancreatic surgery was not associated with the lower morbidity rate of SSIs and other HAIs. Nonetheless, this study may facilitate further development of strategies towards standardization of the duration of AP management of pancreatic surgery.

Abstract The study of the contamination patterns and characteristics of Sb and As in the soils of the legacy contaminated sites of antimony smelters is important for the redevelopment and utilization of industrial sites. In this study, 13 heavy metals were determined in the soil and plants of an antimony smelter in Gansu Province to study the biogeochemical behavior, health risk, and pollution source. The results showed that the Nemerow index of Sb (728) exceeded the value of As (43.6) by 17.6 times, and the average geoaccumulation index (Igeo) of Sb and As were 10.1 and 1.97, respectively, categorized as extremely and moderately contaminated classes. Compared to As, Sb had a larger proportion of oxidizable fraction and a smaller proportion of reducible fraction (Fe/Mn oxides), suggesting that Sb possessed a higher content of organic matter and sulfide forms. Even though the bioaccumulation factor (BAF) for As was about 10 times higher than that for Sb, the accumulation of Sb in plants was not negligible. For the USEPA model, the mean hazard quotient (HQ) values of As by oral ingestion, dermal absorption, and inhalation accounted for 99.0%, 0.97%, and 0.0002% of the total, and 54.2%, 45.3%, and 0.51% for MEEPRC model, respectively. Abstract Background As an important catecholamine neurotransmitter in invertebrates and vertebrates, dopamine plays multiple roles in the life of the honey bee. Dopamine receptors (DA), which specifically bind to dopamine to activate downstream cascades, have been reported to be involved in honey bee reproduction, division of labour, as well as learning and motor behaviour. However, how dopamine receptors regulate honey bee behavior remains uninvestigated. Results The expression level of Amdop2 in the brain increased with the age of worker bees, which was just the opposite trend of ame-let-7. Inhibition of ame-let-7 through feeding an inhibitor upregulated Amdop2 expression; conversely, overexpression of ame-let-7 through a mimic downregulated Amdop2. Moreover, knockdown of Amdop2 in forager brain led to significantly higher sucrose responsiveness, which is similar to the phenotype of overexpression of ame-let-7. Finally, we confirmed that ame-let-7 directly targets Amdop2 in vitro by a luciferase reporter assay. Conclusions ame-let-7 is involved in the dopamine receptor signaling pathway to modulate the sucrose sensitivity in honey bees. Specifically, it down-regulates Amdop2, which then induces higher responses to sucrose. These results further unraveled the diverse mechanisms of the dopamine pathway in the regulation of insect behavior.

The INTEnsive ambulance-delivered blood pressure Reduction in hyper-Acute stroke Trial (INTERACT4) aims to determine efficacy and safety of hyperacute intensive BP lowering in patients with suspected acute stroke. Abstract Bedding planes are abundant in shale oil reservoirs, but the intrinsic mechanism of fracture-height containment by these weak interfaces remains unclear. To investigate the effects of interface properties, stress conditions, and fracturing fluid viscosity on the vertical propagation of fracture heights in laminated shale oil reservoirs, a three-dimensional hydro-mechanical coupling numerical model was developed. The model is based on the 3D discrete lattice algorithm (DLA), which replaces the balls and contacts in the conventional synthetic rock mass model (SRM) with a lattice consisting of spring-connected nodes, resulting in improved computational efficiency. Additionally, the interaction between hydraulic fractures and bedding planes is automatically computed using a smooth joint model (SJM), without making any assumptions about fracture trajectories or interaction conditions. The results indicate that a higher adhesive strength of the laminated surface promotes hydraulic fracture propagation across the interface. Increasing the friction coefficient of the laminated surface from 0.15 to 0.91 resulted in a twofold increase in the fracture height. Furthermore, as the difference between vertical and horizontal principal stresses increased, the longitudinal extension distance of the fracture height significantly increased, while the activated area of the laminar surface decreased dramatically. Moreover, increasing the viscosity of the fracturing fluid led to a decrease in filtration loss along the laminar surface of the fracture and a rapid increase in net pressure, making the hydraulic fracture more likely to cross the laminar surface directly. Therefore, for heterogeneous shale oil reservoirs, a reverse-sequence fracturing technique has been proposed to enhance the length and height of the fracture. This technique involves using a high-viscosity fracturing fluid to increase the fracture height before the main construction phase, followed by a low-viscosity slickwater fracturing fluid to activate the bedding planes and promote fracture complexity. To validate the numerical modeling results, five sets of laboratory hydraulic fracturing physical simulations were conducted in Jurassic terrestrial shale. The findings revealed that as the vertical stress difference ratio increased from 0.25 to 0.6, the vertical fracture area increased by 1.98 times. Additionally, increasing both the injection displacement and the viscosity of the fracturing fluid aided in fracture height crossing of the laminar facies. These results from numerical simulation and experimental studies offer valuable insights for hydraulic fracturing design in laminated shale oil reservoirs.

Abstract Purpose The research aimed to detect the association between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in CYP4V2 gene and coronary heart disease (CHD) risk. Methods This case–control study included 487 CHD subjects and 487 healthy individuals. Logistic regression was performed to analyze the connection between five SNPs in CYP4V2 (rs1398007, rs13146272, rs3736455, rs1053094, and rs56413992) and CHD risk, and odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated to evaluate the connection. Results As a result, we found that rs56413992 T allele (OR = 1.36, 95% CI = 1.09–1.70, p = 0.007) and CT genotype (OR = 1.40, 95% CI = 1.06–1.83, p = 0.017) were significantly associated with an increased risk of CHD in the overall analysis. Precisely, rs56413992 was linked to an elevated risk of CHD in people aged > 60, males, smokers and drinkers. The study also indicated that rs1398007 was linked to an increased CHD risk in drinkers. In addition, rs1053094 was correlated with a decreased risk of CHD complicated with diabetes mellitus (DM), and rs1398007 was correlated with a decreased risk of CHD complicated with hypertension (HTN). Conclusion This study was the first to experimentally demonstrate that CYP4V2 rs56413992 was associated with the risk of CHD, which will provide a certain reference for revealing the pathogenesis of CHD.

The analysis on the measurement uncertainty of output power in the field test of tidal energy converters is an important process to evaluate the power characteristics performance of the tested tidal energy converter. Based on the field test data of the power characteristics performance assessment of a tidal energy converter, the measurement uncertainty calculation results of output power is analyzed. The research results show that: (1) The output power curve with measurement uncertainty information of the tested tidal energy converter that drawn in this paper, can reflect the discreteness and uncertainty of the output power during the field test period; (2) The sensitivity coefficient of tidal current velocity is a component that has a significant impact on the combined uncertainty of output power of tidal energy converters; (3) The change of the output power curve slope of the tested tidal energy converter can reflect the change of the sensitivity coefficient of tidal current velocity. The research results provide a reference for the field test work of power characteristics performance assessment of tidal energy converters in the future.

To explore the effects of different withering methods on the quality of Congou black tea, this study focused on five different withering methods: natural withering, warm-air withering, sun–natural combined withering, sun withering, and shaking withering. Gas chromatography‒mass spectrometry (GC‒MS), high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and ion-exchange chromatography techniques were used to analyze the nonvolatile and volatile components and composition of the tea. The results revealed significant differences (p < 0.05) in the contents of nonvolatile constituents including caffeine, polyphenols, soluble sugars, free amino acids and their components, theaflavins, thearubigins, and catechins among the five different withering methods, with varying degrees of correlation between these components. A total of 227 aroma compounds were detected, and significant differences in the contents of alcohols, aldehydes, and ketones were observed. A relative odor activity value (ROVA) analysis of the aroma compounds revealed that 19 compounds had an ROVA > 1. Among them, benzylaldehyde, trans-2-decenal, decanal, benzaldehyde, nonanal, hexanal, trans-linalool, and geraniol from the shaking withering method had significantly higher ROVA values than those from the other withering methods, which may be the reason for the prominent floral and fruity aroma of shaking withering. This study revealed the impact of different withering methods on the quality of Congou black tea, providing a scientific basis for the development of Congou black tea with different flavors and the improvement of Congou black tea processing techniques.

The multi-parameter characteristics of the physical model pose a challenge to the fatigue life prediction of 2024-T3 aluminum (Al) alloy. In response to this issue, a parameter-solving method that integrates particle swarm optimization (PSO) with extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) is proposed in this study. The fatigue performance and failure mechanism of the 2024-T3 Al alloy are analyzed. Furthermore, the fatigue life prediction physical model of the 2024-T3 Al alloy is established by using the energy method of fracture mechanics. The physical model incorporates critical physical parameters. Meanwhile, the PSO algorithm optimizes the hyperparameters of the XGBoost model based on fatigue data of the 2024-T3 Al alloy. Eventually, the optimized XGBoost model is used to solve the parameters of the physical model. Furthermore, the analytical equation of the fatigue life prediction model is obtained. This paper provides a new method for solving the parameters of the fatigue life prediction model, which reduces the error and cost of obtaining the model parameters in the experiment and shortens the time required.

In practical applications such as cancer diagnosis and industrial detection, there is a critical demand for fast fluorescence lifetime imaging (Fast-FLIM). The Fast-FLIM systems suitable for complex environments are typically achieved by enhancing the hardware performance of time-correlated single-photon counting (TCSPC), with an acquisition speed of about a few frames per second (fps). However, due to the limitation of single-photon acquisition, the imaging speed is still far from the demand of practical application. The synchroscan streak camera (SC) maps signals from the temporal dimension to the spatial dimension, effectively overcoming the long acquisition time caused by single-photon acquisition. This paper constructs a method to calculate the acquisition time for the TCSPC-FLIM and SC-FLIM systems, and it quantitatively compares the speed. The research demonstrates that the main factors limiting the acquisition speed of the FLIM systems are the photon emission rate, the photon counting rate, the required SNR, the dwell time, and the number of parallel channels. In high-quality and large-scale lifetime imaging, the acquisition speed of the SC-FLIM is at least 104 times faster than that of the TCSPC-FLIM. Therefore, the synchroscan streak camera has more significant potential to promote Fast-FLIM.

Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSSs) frequently encounter challenges in providing reliable navigation and positioning within urban canyons due to signal obstruction. Micro-Electro-Mechanical System (MEMS) Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs) offers an alternative for autonomous navigation, but they are susceptible to accumulating errors. To mitigate these influences, a LiDAR-based Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) system is often employed. However, these systems face challenges in drift and error accumulation over time. This paper presents a novel approach to loop closure detection within LiDAR-based SLAM, focusing on the identification of previously visited locations to correct time-accumulated errors. Specifically, the proposed method leverages the vehicular drivable area and IMU trajectory to identify significant environmental changes in keyframe selection. This approach differs from conventional methods that only rely on distance or time intervals. Furthermore, the proposed method extends the SCAN CONTEXT algorithm. This technique incorporates the overall distribution of point clouds within a region rather than solely relying on maximum height to establish more robust loop closure constraints. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is validated through experiments conducted on the KITTI dataset with an enhanced accuracy of 6%, and the local scenarios exhibit a remarkable improvement in accuracy of 17%, demonstrating improved robustness in loop closure detection for LiDAR-based SLAM.

This study investigates the micro-mechanical behavior of mortar under uniaxial compression using a three-phase model in PFC3D. By simulating mortar as a composite of cement, sand, and the interfacial transition zone (ITZ), the research examines the impact of particle size on stress–strain behavior, crack propagation, porosity distribution, contact forces, and energy transformation. The simulations reveal that reducing sand particle size from 1–2 mm to 0.25–0.5 mm leads to a significant increase in uniaxial compressive strength, with peak strength values rising from 65.3 MPa to 89.6 MPa. The elastic modulus similarly improves by approximately 20% as particle size decreases. The study also finds that tensile cracks dominate failure, accounting for over 95% of total cracks, with their onset occurring at lower strains as the particle size is reduced. Porosity analysis shows that smaller particles result in a more uniform distribution, with the final porosity at peak strength ranging between 0.26 and 0.29, compared to 0.22 to 0.31 for larger particles. Additionally, energy dissipation patterns reveal that as particle size decreases, the boundary energy transformation into strain energy becomes more efficient, with a 15% increase in strain energy storage observed. These findings provide critical insights into optimizing mortar microstructure for enhanced mechanical performance in construction applications.

Augmented reality overlays computer-generated virtual information onto real-world scenes, enhancing user interaction and perception. However, traditional augmented reality optical systems are usually large, bulky, and have limited optical performance. In this paper, we propose a novel compact monochrome reflective dielectric metalens visor with see-through properties, engineered using a periodic structure of spin-dependent supercells. The supercell, which is composed of staggered twin nanofins, provides spin-dependent destructive or constructive interference with different circularly polarized incidences. The design combines the principles of interference with the Pancharatnam–Berry phase to enhance reflection at a working wavelength of 650 nm while maintaining good transmission. Right circularly polarized light incident from the substrate side causes destructive interference, enabling the supercell to work in reflection mode, while left circularly polarized light causes constructive interference, enabling the supercell to work in transmission mode. Furthermore, the supercell-constructed metalens can achieve near-diffraction-limited reflective focusing and a broad diagonal field of view of approximately 96°. In addition, compared to transmissive metalens visors, the reflective design eliminates the need for a beam splitter, significantly reducing the size and weight of the system. Our work could facilitate the development of compact and lightweight imaging systems and provide valuable insights for augmented reality near-eye display applications.

In current biomedical and environmental detection, multi-modal optical imaging technology is playing an increasingly important role. By utilizing information from dimensions such as spectra and polarization, it reflects the detailed characteristics and material properties of the targets. However, as detection system performance becomes more complex, issues such as aberrations introduced by multilayered lenses, signal attenuation, decreased polarization sensitivity, and latency can no longer be ignored. These factors directly affect the assessment of image details, influencing subsequent analyses. In this paper, we propose a method for designing and optimizing spectrum-splitting filters that considers the wavefront aberration and transmittance of the multi-modal optical imaging system. The method of optimizing coating phases to minimize scalar phase aberrations while maximizing system transmission leads to substantially improved imaging performance. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate that the method can improve the imaging performance. The proposed approach has potential applications in fields such as biomedical field, multi-spectral, remote sensing and microscopy.

Visible and infrared image fusion is a strategy that effectively extracts and fuses information from different sources. However, most existing methods largely neglect the issue of lighting imbalance, which makes the same fusion models inapplicable to different scenes. Several methods obtain low-level features from visible and infrared images at an early stage of input or shallow feature extraction. However, these methods do not explore how low-level features provide a foundation for recognizing and utilizing the complementarity and common information between the two types of images. As a result, the complementarity and common information between the images is not fully analyzed and discussed. To address these issues, we propose a Self-Attention Progressive Network for the fusion of infrared and visible images in this paper. Firstly, we construct a Lighting-Aware Sub-Network to analyze lighting distribution, and introduce intensity loss to measure the probability of scene illumination. This approach enhances the model’s adaptability to lighting conditions. Secondly, we introduce self-attention learning to design a multi-state joint feature extraction module (MSJFEM) that fully utilizes the contextual information among input keys. It guides the learning of a dynamic attention matrix to strengthen the capacity for visual representation. Finally, we design a Difference-Aware Propagation Module (DAPM) to extract and integrate edge details from the source images while supplementing differential information. The experiments across three benchmark datasets reveal that the proposed approach exhibits satisfactory performance compared to existing methods.

An accurate forecast of typhoon tracks is crucial for disaster warning and mitigation. However, existing numerical weather prediction models, such as the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model, still exhibit significant errors in track forecasts. This study aims to improve forecast accuracy by correcting WRF-forecasted tracks using deep learning models, including Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM) + Convolutional Long Short-Term Memory (ConvLSTM) + Wide and Deep Learning (WDL), BiLSTM + Convolutional Gated Recurrent Unit (ConvGRU) + WDL, and BiLSTM + ConvLSTM + Extreme Deep Factorization Machine (xDeepFM), with a comparison to the Kalman Filter. The results demonstrate that the BiLSTM + ConvLSTM + WDL model reduces the 72 h track prediction error (TPE) from 255.18 km to 159.23 km, representing a 37.6% improvement over the original WRF model, and exhibits significant advantages across all evaluation metrics, particularly in key indicators such as Bias2, Mean Squared Error (MSE), and Sequence. The decomposition of MSE further validates the importance of the BiLSTM, ConvLSTM, WDL, and Temporal Normalization (TN) layers in enhancing the model’s spatio-temporal feature-capturing ability.

In China, the “land-restructuring” policy provides balanced land for urban settlements that is strictly limited in expansion. Therefore, reassessing and adjusting the layout of rural settlements is of great practical significance for promoting rural revitalization. In this paper, taking Xian’an district in Hubei Province as an example, we use the weighted rank-sum ratio comprehensive evaluation method and spatial association analysis method to analyze the development level and spatial pattern of settlements. The results show that: (1) The development level of settlements in Xian’an shows obvious spatial differences, with a spatial pattern of ‘high in the core–low in the periphery’ and ‘high in the northwest–low in the southeast’, which is the result of the combined effect of natural geographical conditions and socioeconomic conditions; (2) The comprehensive development level of settlements, evaluated based on four major indicators—population size, resource endowment, spatial characteristics, and material construction—reveals the presence of cluster effects, distance decay effects, administrative hierarchy effects, and “long board” effects; (3) Within village communities, settlements with significantly high levels and settlements with significantly low levels have a similar geographic distribution and mosaic spatial patterns. Lastly, based on the overall development level and spatial association patterns of settlements, this article presents possible options for governmental settlement governance from the standpoint of rural building management.

The rapid development and widespread application of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) have raised significant concerns about safety and privacy, thus requiring powerful anti-UAV systems. This survey provides an overview of anti-UAV detection and tracking methods in recent years. Firstly, we emphasize the key challenges of existing anti-UAV and delve into various detection and tracking methods. It is noteworthy that our study emphasizes the shift toward deep learning to enhance detection accuracy and tracking performance. Secondly, the survey organizes some public datasets, provides effective links, and discusses the characteristics and limitations of each dataset. Next, by analyzing current research trends, we have identified key areas of innovation, including the progress of deep learning techniques in real-time detection and tracking, multi-sensor fusion systems, and the automatic switching mechanisms that adapt to different conditions. Finally, this survey discusses the limitations and future research directions. This paper aims to deepen the understanding of innovations in anti-UAV detection and tracking methods. Hopefully our work can offer a valuable resource for researchers and practitioners involved in anti-UAV research.

The prevailing approach to the wind resistance design of transmission towers is rooted in the quasi-static method. However, this methodology faces criticism for neglecting tower-line coupling dynamics. Despite efforts to boost structural wind resilience, the research on tower failure mechanisms, especially under extreme winds considering tower-line coupling, is limited. To address this gap, the wind-induced dynamic failure modes of the transmission tower-line system are investigated in this paper. The consistent discrete random flow generation method is employed to simulate the fluctuating wind field for transmission lines. Incorporating the compressive buckling mode of angle steel, the plastic hinge model of the frame element is employed to simulate mechanical nonlinearity. A typical transmission tower-line system is concerned, with a finite element model established for a three-tower, four-line coupled configuration. The findings reveal that the wind-induced collapse of the transmission tower is directly triggered by the buckling failure of the compressed main members, with the vulnerable section located beneath the lower cross-arm. The transmission tower experiences bidirectional bending and compression instability under an unfavorable wind direction. In contrast, the traditional pushover collapse modes of the transmission tower cannot fully capture the characteristics of the collapse failure, mainly due to the ignorance of the transverse wind force action induced by the coupling effect. This research underscores the importance of incorporating lateral dynamic considerations into transmission tower designs and advocates for optimizing strategies to mitigate wind-induced collapse modes.

Maternal immune activation (MIA) during pregnancy has been increasingly recognized as a critical factor in the development of neurodevelopmental disorders, with potential sex-specific impacts that are not yet fully understood. In this study, we utilized a murine model to explore the behavioral and molecular consequences of MIA induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) administration on embryonic day 12.5. Our findings indicate that male offspring exposed to LPS exhibited significant increases in anxiety-like and depression-like behaviors, while female offspring did not show comparable changes. Molecular analyses revealed alterations in pro-inflammatory cytokine levels and synaptic gene expression in male offspring, suggesting that these molecular disruptions may underlie the observed behavioral differences. These results emphasize the importance of considering sex as a biological variable in studies of neurodevelopmental disorders and highlight the need for further molecular investigations to understand the mechanisms driving these sex-specific outcomes. Our study contributes to the growing evidence that prenatal immune challenges play a pivotal role in the etiology of neurodevelopmental disorders and underscores the potential for sex-specific preventative approaches of MIA.

It is inevitable that there will be intermittent shortages of food during the pandemic. As a result, home food gardening has gained considerable attention from city residents and policymakers in modern cities. This is due to its potential to provide food during humanitarian emergencies and lockdown. Moreover, home food gardening is increasingly becoming a popular recreational activity in many countries, offering therapeutic benefits such as fostering social bonds through knowledge-sharing and fruit-sharing, improving mental and psychological well-being, promoting outdoor physical exercise, and strengthening the connection between humans and nature. This review provides a comprehensive summary of the latest advancements in home food gardening, including cultivated species, devices, technologies, and current issues. It also proposes perspectives based on current researches to serve as a reference for future research and development.

Abstract The preservation or removal of apical meristem in Leymus chinensis is contingent upon grazing intensity and has a significant impact on above‐ and belowground biomass, nutritive value, and sustainability of L. chinensis grassland. However, this topic remains understudied. Therefore, a manipulative trial was conducted to induce grazing defoliation through mowing, where two post‐grazing heights (preservation or removal of the apical meristem) and four pre‐grazing plant heights (i.e., 18, 24, 31, and 35 cm) are combined factorially to create gradients of grazing intensities, resulting in a total of eight treatments. Additionally, two identical control treatments are also incorporated. Our results showed that apical meristem removal at various pre‐grazing heights resulted in varying degrees of increased grazing intensities, thereby enhancing the nutritive value of L. chinensis. However, this practice also led to detrimental effects on the plant's carbohydrates reserve as well as herbage mass. The results indicated that although defoliation in treatments involving apical meristem removal resulted in the highest number of frequent cuttings, it did not confer any advantages in terms of herbage mass and nutrient preserves, except for herbage nutritive values when compared to treatments involving apical meristem preservation. The apical meristem preservation treatments demonstrated the highest CP yield over a 2‐year period compared to the apical meristem removal treatments. Furthermore, within these apical meristem preservation treatments, only when the pre‐grazing height is 35 cm and post‐grazing height is 17 cm, there is no significant decrease in above‐ and belowground biomass. This establishes this specific defoliation regime as an optimal and effective management strategy for L. chinensis grassland.

ObjectivesThe objective of this study was to develop a predictive nomogram for intermediate-risk differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) patients after fixed 3.7GBq (100mCi) radioiodine remnant ablation (RRA).MethodsData from 265 patients who underwent total thyroidectomy with central lymph node dissection (CND) and received RRA treatment at a single institution between January 2018 and March 2023 were analyzed. Patients with certain exclusion criteria were excluded. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to identify risk factors for a non-excellent response (non-ER) to RRA. A nomogram was developed based on the risk factors, and its performance was validated using the Bootstrap method with 1,000 resamplings. A web-based dynamic calculator was developed for convenient application of the nomogram.ResultsThe study included 265 patients with intermediate-risk DTC. Significant differences were found between the ER group and the non-ER group in terms of CLNM>5, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, sTg level, TgAb level (P < 0.05). CLNM>5 and sTg level were identified as independent risk factors for non-ER in multivariate analysis. The nomogram showed high accuracy, with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.833 (95% CI = 0.770–0.895). The nomogram’s predicted probabilities aligned closely with actual clinical outcomes.ConclusionsThis study developed a predictive nomogram for intermediate-risk DTC patients after fixed 3.7GBq (100mCi) RRA. The nomogram incorporates CLNM>5 and sTg levels as risk factors for a non-ER response to RRA. The nomogram and web-based calculator can assist in treatment decision-making and improve the precision of prognosis information. Further research and validation are needed.

Spike architecture influences both grain weight and grain number per spike, which are the two major components of grain yield in bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). However, the complex wheat genome and the influence of various environmental factors pose challenges in mapping the causal genes that affect spike traits. Here, we systematically identified genes involved in spike trait formation by integrating information on genomic variation and gene regulatory networks controlling young spike development in wheat. We identified 170 loci that are responsible for variations in spike length, spikelet number per spike, and grain number per spike through genome-wide association study and meta-QTL analyses. We constructed gene regulatory networks for young inflorescences at the double ridge stage and the floret primordium stage, in which the spikelet meristem and the floret meristem are predominant, respectively, by integrating transcriptome, histone modification, chromatin accessibility, eQTL, and protein–protein interactome data. From these networks, we identified 169 hub genes located in 76 of the 170 QTL regions whose polymorphisms are significantly associated with variation in spike traits. The functions of TaZF-B1, VRT-B2, and TaSPL15-A/D in establishment of wheat spike architecture were verified. This study provides valuable molecular resources for understanding spike traits and demonstrates that combining genetic analysis and developmental regulatory networks is a robust approach for dissection of complex traits.

In this paper, in order to establish the energy separation mechanism of the vortex tube, the hydrodynamic behavior of the compressible fluid in the asymmetric cavity space is investigated, and a numerical model of the trajectory deflection behavior is deduced and established; in order to form the optimal design method of the structural parameters of the vortex tube, the force situation of the fluid microelements entering different regions of the vortex chamber of the vortex tube is analyzed, and the trajectory deflection equations are corrected by combining with the expansion behavior of the fluid and the characterizing equations of vortex strength, transportability, and vortex initiation characteristics are given. The characterization equations of vortex strength, transportability and vortex initiation characteristics are given, and the numerical simulation of their influence parameters is carried out; in order to realize the prediction of the vortex tube performance of a given structure, the multifactor Pearson thermodynamic map is used to correlate and analyze the experimental data of vortex tubes reported publicly in the past years, and the polynomial regression equations are designed and established for the prediction of the vortex tube's energy separation effect and the confidence level and the degree of coincidence of the prediction results are examined. The confidence level and degree of agreement of the prediction results were examined. It is found that: the trajectory deflection motion of the compressible fluid in the asymmetric cavity space is the result of the combined effect of structural air pressure bias and the expansion behavior of the incident fluid; in order to improve the vortex strength in the vortex tube, the vortex initiation chamber space should be as small as possible; the increase of the diameters of the hot-end pipe and the cold-end pipe is conducive to the enhancement of vortex strength, but at the same time, it weakens the vortex transport in the heat pipe; the vortex initiation chamber size has a negative correlation with the hot-end temperature rise, and the inlet fluid pressure has a The negative correlation between the size of the vortex chamber and the temperature rise at the hot end, the positive correlation between the increase of inlet fluid pressure and the resulting temperature rise, and the strong correlation between the inlet fluid pressure and the friction coefficient on the effect of energy separation; the predictive equations for the effect of energy separation obtained by the fitting are in good agreement with the real situation.

BackgroundDefinitive concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) followed by maintenance therapy with immune checkpoint inhibitors offers the best chance of cure for patients with stage III non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). A significant challenge in this regimen is the occurrence of acute severe lymphopenia (ASL), which can compromise treatment efficacy. Currently, there are no effective strategies for preventing and treating ASL. Shenglin decoction (SLD), a traditional Chinese herbal medicine formulation, has demonstrated preliminary efficacy in mitigating ASL. However, robust evidence from clinical trials and a clear understanding of its mechanism of action are still needed. This study aims to comprehensively assess the efficacy, safety, and underlying mechanisms of SLD in the prevention of ASL.MethodsThis prospective, dual-center, open-label, randomized controlled trial will enroll 140 stage III NSCLC patients. Participants will be randomly allocated in a 1:1 ratio to a control group or an experimental group. Both groups will undergo definitive CCRT. Alongside the commencement of CCRT, the experimental group will receive an additional oral SLD intervention for a duration of three months. The primary outcome is the incidence rate of ASL, defined as the proportion of patients who experience at least one instance of a total lymphocyte count falling below 0.5 × 10^9 cells/L within 3 months of initiating CCRT treatment. Additionally, 16S rRNA gene sequencing analysis of fecal samples to assess gut microbiota, as well as metabolomic analysis of fecal/blood samples, will be conducted to explore potential mechanisms.DiscussionThis study protocol aims to rigorously evaluate the efficacy and safety of SLD, as well as elucidate its mechanism of action in preventing ASL. Successful outcomes could establish SLD as an evidence-based intervention for ASL prevention in NSCLC patients undergoing CCRT.Trial RegistrationThe trial was registered at the Chinese Clinical Trials Registry (ChiCTR2300071788, https://www.chictr.org.cn/).

Summary: This work introduces a pioneering approach in the development of organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs), featuring a double-layer dielectric structure that combines poly(para-xylylene)s (Parylene) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) to leverage the high insulation properties and high surface polarity of Parylene with the low insulation properties and low surface polarity of PMMA. This combination results in devices that showcase significantly enhanced electrical performance, including superior charge carrier mobility, increased current on/off ratios, and greater transconductance. Utilizing poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) for the active layer, the study demonstrates the advantage of the dual dielectric layers in minimizing hysteresis in the transfer curve, thereby facilitating the systematic growth of the organic active layer and enhancing electrical conductivity over single-layer alternatives. The superior performance of the Parylene/PMMA double-layer insulating structure opens new avenues for the advancement of organic electronics, presenting methodologies for performance optimization and expanding the application spectrum of OTFTs.

The accumulation of potentially toxic elements in soil poses significant risks to ecosystems and human well-being due to their inherent toxicity, widespread presence, and persistence. The Kangdian metallogenic province, famous for its iron-copper deposits, faces soil pollution challenges due to various potentially toxic elements. This study explored a comprehensive approach that combinescombines the spatial prediction by the two-point machine learning method and ecological-health risk assessment to quantitatively assess the comprehensive potential ecological risk index (PERI), the total hazard index (THI) and the total carcinogenic risk (TCR). The proportions of copper (Cu), cadmium (Cd), manganese (Mn), lead (Pb), zinc (Zn), and arsenic (As) concentrations exceeding the risk screening values (RSVs) were 15.03%, 5.1%, 3.72%, 1.24%, 1.1%, and 0.13%, respectively, across the 725 collected samples. Spatial prediction revealed elevated levels of As, Cd, Cu, Pb, Zn, mercury (Hg), and Mn near the mining sites. Potentially toxic elements exert a slight impact on soil, some regions exhibit moderate to significant ecological risk, particularly in the southwest. Children face higher non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic health risks compared to adults. Mercury poses the highest ecological risk, while chromium (Cr) poses the greatest health hazard for all populations. Oral ingestion represents the highest non-oncogenic and oncogenic risks in all age groups. Adults faced acceptable non-carcinogenic risks. Children in the southwest region confront higher health risks, both non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic, from mining activities. Urgent measures are vital to mitigate Hg and Cr contamination while promoting handwashing practices is essential to minimize health risks.

Background: Lung adenocarcinoma is the most common source of brain metastasis (BM), resulting in significant morbidity and mortality. We aimed to identify patients with high BM risk who possibly benefit from brain-penetrant drugs, prophylactic cranial irradiation, or close brain magnetic resonance imaging surveillance. Methods: Metastatic lung adenocarcinoma patients with extracranial tumor samples profiled by a next-generation sequencing panel targeting 425 tumor-related genes were retrospectively enrolled between February 2008 and July 2021. We compared BM and non-BM patients’ genomic and clinical features and studied their associations with BM risk. Two external cohorts were used for result validation and molecular mechanisms investigation, respectively. Results: We included 174 eligible patients, including 90 having developed BM by the end of follow-up. Age≤60, EGFR activating mutations, and high-level apolipoprotein B mRNA editing enzyme, catalytic polypeptide-like (APOBEC) mutational signatures were associated with elevated BM risk. Similar findings in BM-free survival were obtained by fitting Fine-Gray subdistribution hazard models addressing competing risks. Increased BM risk related to APOBEC mutational signatures was validated in an external cohort (N = 440). RNA sequencing data analyses performed in another external cohort (N = 230) revealed that expressions of metastasis-related pathways such as transforming growth factor (TGF)β and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) were upregulated in the patients with high-level APOBEC mutational signatures. Conclusion: APOBEC mutational signatures related to upregulated TGFβ and EMT, could serve as an independent risk factor for BM and BM-free survival in metastatic lung adenocarcinoma patients. Further investigations are warranted to tailor personalized treatments to improve the susceptible patient's outcomes.

The gut microbiota participates in a wide range of biological processes of host, such as growth, feeding and immunity. The rabbitfish (Siganus oramin) is a popular table fish with good taste and rich nutrition. However, there are many potential unknown risks in artificial cultivation process. In this study, for the first time, we performed a 16 s rDNA sequencing analysis of gut microbiota in rabbitfish growing in different environments including marine cage, cement pond and wild environment. The most abundant phylum in all conditions was Proteobacteria, especially in individuals cultured in cement pond, and the relative abundance of Firmicutes, Fusobacteria and Bacteroidetes was obviously higher in marine-cage and wild individuals. At the genus level, Burkholderia-Caballeronia-Paraburkholderia was the most abundant in rabbitfish cultivated in cement pond environment. Moreover, Lipid biosynthesis proteins, Carotenoid biosynthesis, Proximal tubule bicarbonate reclamation, Dioxin degradation and Xylene degradation pathways were found to be highly abundant in rabbitfish cultivated in cement pond, while Sphingolipid metabolism, Plant-pathogen interaction and Glycosphingolipid biosynthesis-globo series pathways were scarce. Interestingly, no obvious difference of gut microbiota was found between marine-cage and wild rabbitfish. All these results would lay a good foundation for developing a microbiota based strategy for artificial cultivation of rabbitfish.

Abstract Industrial CO2 electroreduction has received tremendous attentions for resolution of the current energy and environmental crisis, but its performance is greatly limited by mass transport at high current density. In this work, an ion‐polymer‐modified gas‐diffusion electrode is used to tackle this proton limit. It is found that gas diffusion electrode‐Nafion shows an impressive performance of 75.2% Faradaic efficiency in multicarbon products at an industrial current density of 1.16 A/cm2. Significantly, in‐depth electrochemical characterizations combined with in situ Raman have been used to determine the full workflow of protons, and it is found that HCO3− acts as a proton pool near the reaction environment, and HCO3− and H3O+ are local proton donors that interact with the proton shuttle −SO3− from Nafion. With rich proton hopping sites that decrease the activation energy, a “Grotthuss” mechanism for proton transport in the above system has been identified rather than the “Vehicle” mechanism with a higher energy barrier. Therefore, this work could be very useful in terms of the achievement of industrial CO2 reduction fundamentally and practically.

Based on the raw material of ammonium tetramolybdate in the experiment, molybdenum trioxide was prepared by hydrothermal synthesis, and the effects of different pH, hydrothermal reaction time, filling degree, and calcination temperature on molybdenum trioxide powder were studied. Meanwhile, the molybdenum trioxide powder was characterized through scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and thermal analysis differential scanning calorimetry analysis so as to study the morphology and phase changes during the experiment. As is evident from the research findings, MoO3 powders with uniform and suitable size, smooth and clear surface, good dispersibility, and no adhesion can be obtained at the conditions of pH = 1, 16 h hydrothermal reaction, 90% of filling degree, and 550°C of calcination temperature. In the calcination process, MoO3 crystal undergone crystal transformation and was completely transformed from h-MoO3 to α-MoO3 at the calcination temperature of 350°C.
