Recently, the MiniBooNE experiment at Fermilab has updated the results with increased data and reported an excess of $560.6 \pm 119.6$ electronlike events ($4.7\sigma$) in the neutrino operation mode. In this paper, we propose a scenario to account for the excess where a Dirac-type sterile neutrino, produced by a charged kaon decay through the neutrino mixing, decays into a leptophilic axionlike particle ($\ell$ALP) and a muon neutrino. The electron-positron pairs produced from the $\ell$ALP decays can be interpreted as electronlike events provided that their opening angle is sufficiently small. In our framework, we consider the $\ell$ALP with a mass $m^{}_a = 20\,\text{MeV}$ and an inverse decay constant $c^{}_e/f^{}_a = 10^{-2}\,\text{GeV}^{-1}$, allowed by the astrophysical and experimental constraints. Then, after integrating the predicted angular or visible energy spectra of the $\ell$ALP to obtain the total excess event number, we find that our scenario with sterile neutrino masses within $150\,\text{MeV}\lesssim m^{}_N \lesssim 380 \,\text{MeV}$ ($150\,\text{MeV}\lesssim m^{}_N \lesssim 180 \,\text{MeV}$) and neutrino mixing parameters between $10^{-10} \lesssim |U_{\mu 4}|^2 \lesssim 10^{-8}$ ($3\times 10^{-7} \lesssim |U_{\mu 4}|^2 \lesssim 8 \times10^{-7}$) can explain the MiniBooNE data., Comment: 19+1 pages, 8+1 figures, and 1 table; v2: Typos fixed, figure added, note added, references added, matched to the published version

As proposed to describe putative continuous phase transitions between two ordered phases, the deconfined quantum critical point (DQCP) goes beyond the prevalent Landau-Ginzburg-Wilson (LGW) paradigm since its critical theory is not expressed in terms of the order parameters characterizing either state, but involves fractionalized degrees of freedom and an emergent symmetry. So far, great efforts have been spent on its equilibrium properties, but the nonequilibrium properties therein are largely unknown. Here we study the nonequilibrium dynamics of the DQCP via the imaginary-time evolution in the two-dimensional (2D) J-Q$_3$ model. We discover fascinating nonequilibrium scaling behaviors hinging on the process of fractionization and the dynamics of emergent symmetry associated with two length scales. Our findings not only constitute a new realm of nonequilibrium criticality in DQCP, but also offer a controllable knob by which to investigate the dynamics in strongly correlated systems., Comment: 19 pages, 14 figures

Dirac semimetal PdTe2 single-crystal temperature-dependent ultrafast carrier and phonon dynamics were studied using ultrafast optical pump-probe spectroscopy. Two distinct carrier and coherent phonons relaxation processes were identified in the 5 K - 300 K range. Quantitative analysis revealed a fast relaxation process ({\tau}_f) occurring on a subpicosecond time scale which originated from electron-phonon thermalization. This was followed by a slower relaxation process ({\tau}_s) with a time scale of ~ 7-9.5 ps which originated from phonon-assisted electron-hole recombination. Two significant vibrational modes resolved at all measured temperatures and corresponded to Te atoms in-plane (E_g), and out-of-plane (A_1g), motion. As temperature increased both phonon modes softened markedly. A_1g mode frequency monotonically decreased as temperature increased. Its damping rate remained virtually unchanged. As expected, E_g decreased uniformly as temperatures rose. At temperatures above 80 K, there was insignificant change. Test results suggested that pure dephasing played an important role in the relaxation processes. PdTe2 phonon is thought responsible for its superconductive properties. High-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and ultrafast optical pump-probe spectroscopy were used to study semimetallic 1T - TiTe2 quasiparticle dispersion and dynamics. A kink and a flat band, having the same energy scale and temperature-dependent behaviors along the G-M direction, were detected. Both manifested at low temperatures but blurred as temperature increased. The kink was formed by an electron-phonon coupling. And the localized flat band might be closely related to an electron-phonon coupling. Ultrafast optical spectroscopy identified multiple distinct time scales in the 10-300 K range. Quantitative analysis of the fastest decay process evidenced a significant lifetime temperature dependence at high temperatures, while this starts to change slowly below ~ 100 K where an anomalous Hall coefficient occurred. At low temperature, a coherent A1g phonon mode with a frequency of ~ 4.36 THz was extracted. Frequency temperature dependence suggests that phonon hardening occurs as temperature falls and anharmonic effects can explain it. Very recently, the first geometric-arithmetic index $GA$ and arithmetic-geometric index $AG$ were introduced in mathematical chemistry. In the present paper, we first obtain some lower and upper bounds on $AG$ and characterize the extremal graphs. We also establish various relations between $AG$ and other topological indices, such as the first geometric-arithmetic index $GA$, atom-bond-connectivity index $ABC$, symmetric division deg index $SDD$, chromatic number $\chi$ and so on. Finally, we present some sufficient conditions of $GA(G)>GA(G-e)$ or $AG(G)>AG(G-e)$ for an edge $e$ of a graph $G$. We present a nonextensive version of the Polyakov-Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model which is based on the nonextentive statistical mechanics. This new statistics is characterized by a dimensionless nonextensivity parameter $q$ that accounts for all possible effects violating the assumptions of the Boltzmann-Gibbs (BG) statistics (when $q\rightarrow1$, it returns to the BG case). Based on the nonextensive Polyakov-Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model, we discussed the influence of the nonextensive effects on the QCD phase transition, especially on the location of the critical end point (CEP). A new and interesting phenomenon we found is that with the increase of $q$, the CEP position initially shifted toward the direction of larger chemical potential and lower temperature. But then, when $q$ is greater than a critical value $q_{c}$, the CEP position moves in the opposite direction. In other words, as $q$ increases, the CEP position moves in the direction of smaller chemical potential and higher temperature. We study the short-imaginary-time quantum critical dynamics (SITQCD) in the J-Q$_3$ spin chain, which hosts a quasi-long-range-order phase to a valence bond solid transition. By using the scaling form of the SITQCD with a saturated ordered phase, we are able to locate the critical point at $q_{\rm c}=0.170(14)$. We also obtain the critical initial slip exponent $\theta=-0.507(3)$ and the static exponent $\beta/\nu=0.498(2)$. More strikingly, we find that the scaling dimension of the initial order parameter $x_{0}$ is close to zero, which suggests that the initial order parameter is a marginal operator. As a result, there is no initial increase behavior of the order parameter in the short-imaginary-time relaxation process for this model, which is very different from the relaxation dynamics in the Ising-type phase transitions. Recent deep image-to-image translation techniques allow fast generation of face images from freehand sketches. However, existing solutions tend to overfit to sketches, thus requiring professional sketches or even edge maps as input. To address this issue, our key idea is to implicitly model the shape space of plausible face images and synthesize a face image in this space to approximate an input sketch. We take a local-to-global approach. We first learn feature embeddings of key face components, and push corresponding parts of input sketches towards underlying component manifolds defined by the feature vectors of face component samples. We also propose another deep neural network to learn the mapping from the embedded component features to realistic images with multi-channel feature maps as intermediate results to improve the information flow. Our method essentially uses input sketches as soft constraints and is thus able to produce high-quality face images even from rough and/or incomplete sketches. Our tool is easy to use even for non-artists, while still supporting fine-grained control of shape details. Both qualitative and quantitative evaluations show the superior generation ability of our system to existing and alternative solutions. Modern JavaScript includes the SharedArrayBuffer feature, which provides access to true shared memory concurrency. SharedArrayBuffers are simple linear buffers of bytes, and the JavaScript specification defines an axiomatic relaxed memory model to describe their behaviour. While this model is heavily based on the C/C++11 model, it diverges in some key areas. JavaScript chooses to give a well-defined semantics to data-races, unlike the "undefined behaviour" of C/C++11. Moreover, the JavaScript model is mixed-size. This means that its accesses are not to discrete locations, but to (possibly overlapping) ranges of bytes. We show that the model, in violation of the design intention, does not support a compilation scheme to ARMv8 which is used in practice. We propose a correction, which also incorporates a previously proposed fix for a failure of the model to provide Sequential Consistency of Data-Race-Free programs (SC-DRF), an important correctness condition. We use model checking, in Alloy, to generate small counter-examples for these deficiencies, and investigate our correction. To accomplish this, we also develop a mixed-size extension to the existing ARMv8 axiomatic model. Guided by our Alloy experimentation, we mechanise (in Coq) the JavaScript model (corrected and uncorrected), our ARMv8 model, and, for the corrected JavaScript model, a "model-internal" SC-DRF proof and a compilation scheme correctness proof to ARMv8. In addition, we investigate a non-mixed-size subset of the corrected JavaScript model, and give proofs of compilation correctness for this subset to x86-TSO, Power, RISC-V, ARMv7, and (again) ARMv8, via the Intermediate Memory Model (IMM). As a result of our work, the JavaScript standards body (ECMA TC39) will include fixes for both issues in an upcoming edition of the specification., Comment: 16 pages, 13 figiures

Coloring line art images based on the colors of reference images is an important stage in animation production, which is time-consuming and tedious. In this paper, we propose a deep architecture to automatically color line art videos with the same color style as the given reference images. Our framework consists of a color transform network and a temporal constraint network. The color transform network takes the target line art images as well as the line art and color images of one or more reference images as input, and generates corresponding target color images. To cope with larger differences between the target line art image and reference color images, our architecture utilizes non-local similarity matching to determine the region correspondences between the target image and the reference images, which are used to transform the local color information from the references to the target. To ensure global color style consistency, we further incorporate Adaptive Instance Normalization (AdaIN) with the transformation parameters obtained from a style embedding vector that describes the global color style of the references, extracted by an embedder. The temporal constraint network takes the reference images and the target image together in chronological order, and learns the spatiotemporal features through 3D convolution to ensure the temporal consistency of the target image and the reference image. Our model can achieve even better coloring results by fine-tuning the parameters with only a small amount of samples when dealing with an animation of a new style. To evaluate our method, we build a line art coloring dataset. Experiments show that our method achieves the best performance on line art video coloring compared to the state-of-the-art methods and other baselines.

We will give a new proof of the existence of non-compact homothetic solitons of the inverse mean curvature flow (cf. \cite{DLW}) in $\mathbb{R}^n\times \mathbb{R}$, $n\ge 2$, of the form $(r,y(r))$ or $(r(y),y)$ where $r=|x|$, $x\in\mathbb{R}^n$, is the radially symmetric coordinate and $y\in \mathbb{R}$. More precisely for any $\frac{1}{n}<\lambda<\frac{1}{n-1}$ and $\mu<0$, we will give a new proof of the existence of a unique solution $r(y)\in C^2(\mu,\infty)\cap C([\mu,\infty))$ of the equation $\frac{r_{yy}(y)}{1+r_y(y)^2}=\frac{n-1}{r(y)}-\frac{1+r_y(y)^2}{\lambda(r(y)-yr_y(y))}$, $r(y)>0$, in $(\mu,\infty)$ which satisfies $r(\mu)=0$ and $r_y(\mu)=\lim_{y\searrow\mu}r_y(y)=+\infty$. In this work we use the equation of state (EOS) of (2+1)-flavor Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model to study the structure of the strange quark star. With a new free parameter $\alpha$, the Lagrangian is constructed by two parts, the original NJL Lagrangian and the Fierz transformation of it, as $\mathcal{L}=(1-\alpha)\mathcal{L}_{NJL}+\alpha\mathcal{L}_{Fierz}$. To determine the range of $\alpha$, we compare the binding energies in the 2-flavor and (2+1)-flavor cases. We also consider the constraints of chemical equilibrium and electric charge neutrality in the strange quark star and choose six representative EOSs with different $\alpha$ and $B$ (bag constant) to study their influence on the structure of the strange quark star. As a result, we find that a larger $\alpha$ and a smaller $B$ corresponds to a heavier star with a stiffer EOS. Furthermore, the heaviest strange quark star is in agreement with not only the recent mass observation of PSR J0740+6620 and the X-ray observations on radius measurements, but also the constraint on tidal deformability of GW170817., Comment: 10 pages, 9 figures
