225. Prosthetic and dental implant patient's biosafety during MRI procedure: A survey based study on awareness among professionals.

Abstract

Aims and Objectives: The survey was conducted to evaluate the awareness among dentists and radiologists regarding the safety and interactions of dental materials in relation to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Materials and Methods: A questionnaire was circulated among professionals of the North Indian population as Google forms to assess their awareness regarding the safety of dental implants in MRI field, and the results were calculated by the same application. Results: A majority of the professionals seemed to be well-informed regarding the magnetic nature of materials used as dental implants. However, there were mixed opinions regarding the biosafety of different dental materials used for prosthetic restoration of implants or as prosthesis that maybe attached to oral structures. Conclusion: The present survey revealed that the most professionals possess the knowledge and awareness about biosafety of dental materials, there still a further need to increase awareness to avoid dilemmas in routine practice. Abstract

This paper proposes a novel criterion for suppressing the H ∞ overflow oscillations in fixed point state-space digital filters employing saturation nonlinearities and external interference. The proposed criterion can be used to ensure the exponential stability (ES) and diminish the external interference effects to an H ∞ norm constraint. 227. Prevalence of sustained hypertension and obesity among urban and rural adolescents: a school-based, cross-sectional study in North India

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: Recent data on sustained hypertension and obesity among school-going children and adolescents in India are limited. This study evaluates the prevalence of sustained hypertension and obesity and their risk factors among urban and rural adolescents in northern India. SETTING: A school-based, cross-sectional survey was conducted in the urban and rural areas of Ludhiana, Punjab, India using standardised measurement tools. PARTICIPANTS: A total of 1959 participants aged 11-17 years (urban: 849; rural: 1110) were included in this school-based survey. PRIMARY AND SECONDARY OUTCOME MEASURES: To measure sustained hypertension among school children, two distinct blood pressure (BP) measurements were recorded at an interval of 1 week. High BP was defined and classified into three groups as recommended by international guidelines: (1) normal BP: 95th percentile. The Indian Academy of Pediatrics classification was used to define underweight, normal, overweight and obesity as per the body mass index (BMI) for specific age groups. RESULTS: The prevalence of sustained hypertension among rural and urban areas was 5.7% and 8.4%, respectively. The prevalence of obesity in rural and urban school children was 2.7% and 11.0%, respectively. The adjusted multiple regression model found that urban area (relative risk ratio (RRR): 1.7, 95% CI 1.01 to 2.93), hypertension (RRR: 7.4, 95% CI 4.21 to 13.16) and high socioeconomic status (RRR: 38.6, 95% CI 16.54 to 90.22) were significantly associated with an increased risk of obesity. However, self-reported regular physical activity had a protective effect on the risk of obesity among adolescents (RRR: 0.4, 95% CI 0.25 to 0.62). Adolescents who were overweight (RRR: 2.66, 95% CI 1.49 to 4.40) or obese (RRR: 7.21, 95% CI 4.09 to 12.70) and reported added salt intake in their diet (RRR: 4.90, 95% CI 2.83 to 8.48) were at higher risk of hypertension. CONCLUSION: High prevalence of sustained hypertension and obesity was found among urban school children and adolescents in a northern state in India. Hypertension among adolescents was positively associated with overweight and obesity (high BMI). Prevention and early detection of childhood obesity and high BP should be strengthened to prevent the risk of cardiovascular diseases in adults.

Abstract

This paper aims to investigate the problem of robust stability of discrete-time systems with finite wordlength nonlinearities and time-varying delay. Two new delay-dependent stability criteria for such systems are proposed. The first criterion is based on estimating the forward difference of Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional using a summation inequality along with the Wirtinger-based inequality. The second one employs the method of delay partitioning where the delay range is nonuniformly divided into subintervals. The proposed criteria are distinctive and may be considered less stringent than previous criteria. Examples are presented to verify the effectiveness of the criteria. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

250. Relevance of fasting plasma glucose for diagnosing gestational diabetes mellitus

Abstract

Introduction: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is defined as the raised plasma glucose level detected first during pregnancy. A simple blood sugar test can detect gestational diabetes and to interpret the value various criteria are available like ADA (2016), ACOG, WHO and IADPSG each one having its own limitations. In 2009, DIPSI was proposed for diagnosing/ screening GDM which was later approved by MoH, GOI . Objective: To estimate fasting and 2hr post prandial plasma glucose level following 75gm glucose load in diagnosing gestational diabetes mellitus and to find out the correlation between fasting and 2hr post prandial values in GDM women. Material and method: As per inclusion/exclusion criteria of the study 200 pregnant females attending the antenatal clinic were enrolled. Fasting and 2hr post prandial plasma glucose samples were collected following 75gm anhydrous glucose for plasma glucose estimation in fluoride vaccutainer under aseptic precautions. Plasma glucose was analyzed by enzymatic method on fully autoanalyzer. For diagnosing gestational diabetes WHO 1999 criteria were taken. Results: Out of 200 pregnant females, 70 females were included in our study, 52 were healthy while 18 were diagnosed as GDM according to WHO criteria. No correlation was observed between fasting and 2hr post prandial plasma glucose. Conclusion: Fasting plasma glucose sample can be excluded for screening GDM hence, 2hr PP following 75gm glucose load as suggested in one step DIPSI criteria can be used an alternative method for diagnosis of GDM because it is convenient and cost-effective.
