Some fundamental visual features have been found to be fully extracted before reaching the cerebral cortex. We focus on direction-selective ganglion cells (DSGCs), which exist at the terminal end of the retinal pathway, at the forefront of the visual system. By utilizing a layered pathway composed of various relevant cells in the early stage of the retina, DSGCs can extract multiple motion directions occurring in the visual field. However, despite a considerable amount of comprehensive research (from cells to structures), a definitive conclusion explaining the specific details of the underlying mechanisms has not been reached. In this paper, leveraging some important conclusions from neuroscience research, we propose a complete quantified model for the retinal motion direction selection pathway and elucidate the global motion direction information acquisition mechanism from DSGCs to the cortex using a simple spiking neural mechanism. This mechanism is referred to as the artificial visual system (AVS). We conduct extensive testing, including one million sets of two-dimensional eight-directional binary object motion instances with 10 different object sizes and random object shapes. We also evaluate AVS's noise resistance and generalization performance by introducing random static and dynamic noises. Furthermore, to thoroughly validate AVS's efficiency, we compare its performance with two state-of-the-art deep learning algorithms (LeNet-5 and EfficientNetB0) in all tests. The experimental results demonstrate that due to its highly biomimetic design and characteristics, AVS exhibits outstanding performance in motion direction detection. The spherical evolution algorithm (SE) is a unique algorithm proposed in recent years and widely applied to new energy optimization problems with notable achievements. However, the existing improvements based on SE are deemed insufficient due to the challenges arising from the multiple choices of operators and the utilization of a spherical search method. In this paper, we introduce an enhancement method that incorporates weights in individuals' dimensions that are affected by individual fitness during the iteration process, aiming to improve SE by adaptively balancing the tradeoff between exploitation and exploration during convergence. This is achieved by reducing the randomness of dimension selection and enhancing the retention of historical information in the iterative process of the algorithm. This new SE improvement algorithm is named DWSE. To evaluate the effectiveness of DWSE, in this study, we apply it to the CEC2017 standard test set, the CEC2013 large-scale global optimization test set, and 22 real-world problems from CEC2011. Organic photovoltaic (OPV) devices are promising tools for indoor light harvesting and power conversion, but high voltage losses, especially under weak illumination, hinder their development. In this work, the organic active material system PM6/IT-4Cl, which is green solvent processible and highly suitable for indoor light harvesting, is employed to investigate the voltage loss mechanism in indoor OPV devices. Three major problems specific to indoor OPV devices are identified, including a high density of pinholes in the active layer leading to low device shunt resistance, a too-large charge transfer energy loss causing high radiative voltage losses, and a high trap concentration in the active layer limiting the device electroluminescence efficiency and open-circuit voltage. To solve these problems, a strategy based on the use of solvents and solid additives is proposed. This resulted in a significant increase in power conversion efficiency (PCE) for the PM6/IT-4Cl devices from 16% to 23% under white LED illumination (3000 K, 4000 lux). Our findings highlight the importance of developing tailored optimization strategies to reduce voltage losses in order to further improve the performance of indoor OPV devices. Photothermal CO2 reduction using H2O combined with photocatalysis‐driven H2O splitting combined with thermal catalysis‐supported CO2 reduction has attracted rapid interest in artificial synthesis of solar fuel. With respect to extremely efficient photothermal catalysis, the photothermal impact of TMDCs (Transition Metal Dichalcogenides) facilitates CO2 reduction by activating lattice oxygen in oxide to enhance H2O oxidation. However, the fixed band gap of single photocatalyst is limited. The purpose of this work is to expand the band gap and improve the redox capacity. Hollow boxwood ball‐like WO3/WS2 Z‐scheme heterojunctions were prepared and used for photothermal catalytic CO2 reduction. DFT calculations and UV‐Vis spectra show LSPR effect in WOS heterojunctions, and the optical response extends to near infrared region. By comparison, the photothermal catalytic reduction of WO3/WS2 (9.717 μmol) by CO2 at 513 K is higher than that at 298 K (1.198 μmol) by a factor of 8. The formation of Z‐scheme heterojunction promotes rapid carrier transfer and lowers the reaction energy barrier. As well as the hollow structure improves light utilization and increases the interfacial area and number of active sites. In addition, the WO3/WS2 heterostructure utilizes its unique LSPR effect to generate heat through the photothermal effect, which can also promote molecular activation. This work reveals the important role of the LSPR effect in photothermal catalysis and demonstrates a TMDCs‐based photothermal‐driven catalysts, which presents a promising approach for designing of photothermal catalytic CO2 reduction. Background: Immunoscore have shown a promising prognostic value in many cancers. We aimed to establish and validate an immune classifier to predict survival after curative resection of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients who have undergone curative resection.Methods: The immunohistochemistry (IHC) classifier assay was performed on 664 patients with Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) stage 0 or A HCC. A nine-feature-based HCC-IHC classifier was then constructed by the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator method. The associations between the HCC-IHC classifier and patient outcomes were assessed. Herein, a nomogram was generated from the Cox regression coefficients and evaluated by decision curve analysis.Results: We constructed an HCC-IHC classifier based on nine features; significant differences were found between the low-HCC-IHC classifier patients and high-HCC-IHC classifier patients in the training cohort in the 5-year relapse-free survival rates (46.7% vs. 26.7%, respectively; P < 0.001). The HCC-IHC classifier-based nomogram presented better accuracy than traditional staging systems.Conclusions: In conclusion, the HCC-IHC classifier could effectively predict recurrence in early-stage HCC patients and supplemented the prognostic value of the BCLC staging system. The Cu-doped SnO2 nanowires (NWs) with average diameter of 40–100 nm were synthesized by thermal chemical vapor transport method. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy studies of Cu-doped SnO2 NWs demonstrate that the NWs are single-crystal structures and Cu is homogeneously doped into the SnO2 lattice. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements evidence the existence of divalent Cu ions (Cu2+). Although the NWs consist of only nonmagnetic elements, room-temperature ferromagnetism is observed and its origin is attributed to both the structure defects and strong p-d ferromagnetic coupling between the local magnetic moment of Cu2+ and the polarized valence electrons of the surrounding oxygen based on first-principles calculations. Hexagonal closed-packed (hcp) nickel has only been discovered in nanostructures. In this work, systematic ab initio calculations have been applied to study nickel nanowires with hexagonal close-packed structure in diameters of up to 2.2 nm. For all comparable nickel nanowires in our calculations, the hcp nanowire with [0001] axial direction is energetically favored against fcc nanowire with [111] axial direction. In hcp nickel nanowires, ferromagnetism is found existing at ground state and surface atoms of the nanowires are found having larger magnetic moments than core atoms have. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch, one of the famous Chinese medicinal herbs, has been widely used in anti-cancer prescription. We found that glycerrhetinic acid (GA, triterpenoid) and licochalcone A (LCA, flavonoid), two primary constituents of Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch, induced cell proliferative inhibition, apoptosis, and autophagy in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) A549 and NCI-H1299 cells. Combined treatment with chloroquine further enhanced GA- or LCA-induced expression of LC3-II and more red-fluorescent puncta than green ones were observed in GA- or LCA-treated cells with transfection of mRFP-EGFP-LC3, suggesting that GA and LCA induces autophagic flux in NSCLC cells. Inhibition of autophagy enhanced GA-induced cell proliferative inhibition and apoptosis in NSCLC cells. In contrast, LCA-induced cell proliferative inhibition and apoptosis were not significantly altered after autophagy inhibition in NSCLC cells. The JNK and IRE1 α were activated after incubation with GA. Pretreatment with the JNK inhibitor SP600125 or silencing of the JNK pathway by siRNA of JNK or c-jun decreased GA-induced autophagy. Moreover, the GA-induced JNK pathway activation and autophagy were decreased by IRE1 α knockdown, suggesting that GA induces autophagy through activation of IRE1 α -JNK/c-jun pathway. LCA increased the expression of CHOP, and knockdown of CHOP reversed LCA-induced autophagy, suggesting that LCA-induced autophagy is due to induction of CHOP expression. Collectively, both GA and LCA induced cell proliferative inhibition, apoptosis, and autophagy in NSCLC, and inhibition of autophagy might be an effective strategy to enhance the anti-NSCLC effects of Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch contained prescriptions. Electrocatalytic nitrogen reduction reaction (ENRR) has emerged as a promising approach to synthesizing green ammonia under ambient conditions. Tungsten (W) is one of the most effective ENRR catalysts. In this reaction, the protonation of intermediates is the rate‐determining step (RDS). Enhancing the adsorption of intermediates is crucial to increase the protonation of intermediates, which can lead to improved catalytic performance. Herein, we constructed a strong interfacial electric field in WS2‐WO3 to elevate the d‐band center of W, thereby strengthening the adsorption of intermediates. Experimental results demonstrated that this approach led to a significantly improved ENRR performance. Specifically, WS2‐WO3 exhibited a high NH3 yield of 62.38 μg h−1 mgcat−1 and a promoted faraday efficiency (FE) of 24.24 %. Furthermore, in situ characterizations and theoretical calculations showed that the strong interfacial electric field in WS2‐WO3 upshifted the d‐band center of W towards the Fermi level, leading to enhanced adsorption of −NH2 and −NH intermediates on the catalyst surface. This resulted in a significantly promoted reaction rate of the RDS. Complex systems provide an opportunity to analyze the essence of phenomena by studying their intricate connections. The networks formed by these connections, known as complex networks, embody the underlying principles governing the system's behavior. While complex networks have been previously applied in the field of evolutionary computation, prior studies have been limited in their ability to reach conclusive conclusions. Based on our investigations, we are against the notion that there is a direct link between the complex network structure of an algorithm and its performance, and we demonstrate this experimentally. In this paper, we address these limitations by analyzing the dynamic complex network structures of five algorithms across three different problems. By incorporating mathematical distributions utilized in prior research, we not only generate novel insights but also refine and challenge previous conclusions. Specifically, we introduce the biased Poisson distribution to describe the algorithm's exploration capability and the biased power-law distribution to represent its exploitation potential during the convergence process. Our aim is to redirect research on the interplay between complex networks and evolutionary computation towards dynamic network structures, elucidating the essence of exploitation and exploration in the black-box optimization process of evolutionary algorithms via dynamic complex networks. High‐performance IR organic photodetectors (OPDs) are of great significance for wireless optical communication, light detection and ranging (LiDAR) technology, and wearable electronics. However, high dark current and low responsivity (R) hinder their future commercial application. Herein, fullerene and non‐fullerene acceptors‐based OPDs are fabricated to understand the relationship between the trap density and photo‐responsivity. Impressively, the non‐fullerene system (Poly([2,6′‐4,8‐di(5‐ethylhexylthienyl)benzo[1,2‐b;3,3‐b]dithiophene]{3‐fluoro‐2[(2‐ethylhexyl)carbonyl]thieno[3,4‐b]thiophenediyl}) (PCE10):BTPV‐4F‐eC9) based OPDs exhibits a record R‐value of 0.56 A W−1 at 900 nm in no gain photodiode‐type OPDs, which results in a high detectivity over 1013 Jones in 400–1030 nm at room temperature. Mechanistic studies show that the low trap density plays critical role in reducing the trap‐assisted recombination and density of thermally generated carriers, thus improving the responsivity and reducing the dark current of the device. We report here the one‐pot synthesis of benzo[1,2‐a : 3,4‐a′ : 5,6‐a′′]triazulene (BTA), wherein three azulene units are embedded through a tandem reaction comprising two steps, Suzuki coupling and Knoevenagel condensation, between a readily available triborylated truxene precursor and 8‐bromo‐1‐naphthaldehyde. Its nitration leads to a regioselective trinitrated product, namely, BTA‐NO2. Single‐crystal X‐ray crystallography revealed that the superstructure of BTA consists of a dimer stacked by two enantiomeric helicene conformers, while that of BTA‐NO2 consists of an unprecedented π‐tetramer stacked from two enantiomeric dimers, that is, four distinct helicene conformers. Both compounds show excellent stability and fluorescence with large Stokes shifts of up to 5100 cm−1. Dielectric capacitors are used in pulsed power devices due to their high-power density. The energy storage density and efficiency need to be further improved to widen their applications. This work investigates the energy storage of high entropy ceramic (Pb 0.25 Ba 0.25 Ca 0.25 Sr 0.25)TiO 3 synthesized by the solid-state method. The Bi(Mg 2/3 Nb 1/3)O 3 (BMN) is introduced to enhance its energy storage performance. The introduction of BMN from x = 0 to 0.15 reduces the grain size from 5.9 μm to 245 nm, increases the band gap from 2.98 to 3.05 eV, and improves the differences between saturation and remnant polarization from 11.85 to 14.60 μC/cm2. The phase diagram of this system was constructed by dielectric properties analysis to understand the effect of Bi(Mg 2/3 Nb 1/3)O 3 in the energy storage performance. The optimal energy density of 5.58 J/cm3 and efficiency of 89.4% was achieved in 0.9PBCST-0.1BMN which can be promising candidates for application in dielectric energy storage. Is ART associated with adverse neurodevelopmental outcome in 12-month-old offspring compared with those conceived through natural conception? In this prospective cohort study, 488 infertile women undergoing ART and 1397 women with natural conception were recruited and followed until their offspring were 12 months old. The primary outcome was the neurodevelopment in the offspring. The association between exposure to ART and Gesell developmental scale scores was investigated using multiple linear regression models after adjusting for confounders. Propensity score matching (PSM) and inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) were used to verify the results. In total, 18 (3.7%) and 40 (2.9%) children in the ART and natural conception groups, respectively, had been diagnosed with neurodevelopmental delay at 12 months of age. It was found that gross motor, adaptive behaviour, language and total development quotient scores were comparable between the groups. Following multivariate linear regression and IPTW, social behaviour development quotient scores were found to be slightly higher in the ART group than the natural conception group. Higher social behaviour development quotient scores in the ART group were also observed in the male and the singleton subgroups. At 12 months, offspring born after ART appeared to have similar motor, language and adaptive behaviour skills, and total development quotient scores, to those born after natural conception. However, social behaviour development in 12-month-old infants was slightly higher in those conceived using ART than in naturally conceived offspring, especially in male or singleton infants. Colon-targeted drug delivery is gradually attracting attention because it can effectively treat colon diseases. Furthermore, electrospun fibers have great potential application value in the field of drug delivery because of their unique external shape and internal structure. In this study, a core layer of hydrophilic polyethylene oxide (PEO) and the anti-colon-cancer drug curcumin (CUR), a middle layer of ethanol, and a sheath layer of the natural pH-sensitive biomaterial shellac were used in a modified triaxial electrospinning process to prepare beads-on-the-string (BOTS) microfibers. A series of characterizations were carried out on the obtained fibers to verify the process–shape/structure–application relationship. The results of scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy indicated a BOTS shape and core–sheath structure. X-ray diffraction results indicated that the drug in the fibers was in an amorphous form. Infrared spectroscopy revealed the good compatibility of the components in the fibers. In vitro drug release revealed that the BOTS microfibers provide colon-targeted drug delivery and zero-order drug release. Compared to linear cylindrical microfibers, the obtained BOTS microfibers can prevent the leakage of drugs in simulated gastric fluid, and they provide zero-order release in simulated intestinal fluid because the beads in BOTS microfibers can act as drug reservoirs. We identified a novel circovirus (human-associated circovirus 2 [HuCV2]) from the blood of 2 intravenous drug users in China who were infected with HIV-1, hepatitis C virus, or both. Background: Surgery is still the preferred treatment for tongue cancer. Reconstruction should be performed immediately after extensive resection of the tumor. The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical effect, advantages, and disadvantages of radial forearm free (RFF) flap and anterolateral thigh (ALT) flap in tongue reconstruction after radical resection of tongue cancer.Methods: Thirty-nine cases of tongue reconstruction with RFF flap or ALT flap from 2014 to 2018 were analyzed. The survival of the flap, the functional status after repair, and the influence on the donor area were examined, in addition to the advantages and disadvantages of the flap and the critical points of the technique.Results: Twenty-one cases with RFF flaps and 18 cases with ALT flaps showed complete flap survival. Among them, 1 case involved a venous vessel crisis after an ALT operation, and the flap survived after reoperation after thrombus removal and anastomosis. The recovery of tongue function was as follows: 41.0% patients exhibited normal speech, 43.6% patients exhibited near-normal speech, 12.8% patients exhibited vague speech, and 2.6% patients could not speak. There was no significant difference between the 2 groups (p = 0.134). The recovery of tongue flexibility was as follows: 41.0% of the patients had normal postoperative tongue flexibility, 43.6% of the patients had slightly limited tongue flexibility, 12.8% of the patients had severely limited tongue flexibility, and 2.6% of the patients were completely limited. The difference between the 2 groups was statistically significant (p = 0.045). The postoperative diet of patients was as follows: 51.3% of patients had a regular diet, 33.3% of patients had soft foods, 12.8% of patients received a fluid diet, and 2.6% of patients could not eat after the operation. There was no significant difference between the 2 groups (p = 0.209). The satisfaction of donor area was as follows: 46.2% of the patients were satisfied with the donor area, 51.3% of the patients were basically satisfied with the donor area satisfaction, and 2.6% of the patients were not satisfied with the donor area satisfaction. There was no significant difference between the 2 groups (p = 0.809).Conclusion: The RFF flap is the most widely used technique in tongue reconstruction, especially in patients with tongue defects less than half of tongue tissue. However, for a large number of tissue defects caused by radical resection of advanced tongue cancer, the ALT flaps can provide a sufficient tissue volume, conceal scars after the operation, cause fewer complications in the donor area, and facilitate tongue function and aesthetic quality. Abstract Background The role of miR-99a-3p in Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) has not been reported. Therefore, in this study, we examined the expression level and its molecular mechanisms of miR-99a-3p in HNSCC. Materials and methods: MiR-99a-3p-related miRNA-chip and miRNA-sequencing data were collected. We then carried out meta-analyses to pool the standard mean difference (SMD) value and generate a summarized receiver operating characteristic (sROC) curve. MiR-99a-3p mimic was transfected into FaDu cells and those genes influenced by miR-99a-3p were gathered. The target genes were also predicted from 12 tools through miRwalk2.0, and combined with differentially expressed genes in HNSCC from the The Cancer Genome Atlas and Genotype-Tissue Expression sequencing databases. FunRich and DAVID were used for the pathway signaling analyses for the potential targets of miR-99a-3p in HNSCC. Results The SMD was -0.30 (95% CI: -0.51, -0.08) in the fixed-effect model and -0.28 (95% CI: -0.67, 0.10) in the random-effect model (I2 = 60%), indicating a reduced expression level of miR-99a-3p in HNSCC tissues based on 1167 cases. In the sROC curve, the area under the curve (AUC) was 0.77 (95% CI: 0.73, 0.81). The 251 potential targets of miR-99a-3p were enriched in several pathways related to cancer, with the "Pathways in cancer" standing at the top. vascular endothelial growth factor A was selected as an example with up-regulated trend in HNSCC tissues. In this study, the simultaneous removal of Cr, Cu, Zn, and Cd was investigated by nano zero-valent iron modified sludge biochar (nZVI@SBC). The results showed that nZVI@SBC could significantly improve the removal efficiency of the four heavy metals (HMs) in high salinity wastewater. NO 3 – (N-NO 3 –) and humic acid (HA) could promote the removal of Cr, Cu, Zn, and Cd, and PO 4 3- (P-PO 4 3-) could enhance the removal of Cd. EPR analysis demonstrated the generation of 1O 2 in different water matrices. The 1O 2 intensity increased in the presence of NO 3 – and HA, which indicated the acceleration of the nZVI corrosion and the promoted electron transfer in the system. To further understand the reaction mechanism, the variation of nZVI@SBC structures and compositions during the treatment process were characterized by SEM-EDS, XRD, BET, and XPS. Cr and Cu were removed through adsorption and co-precipitation after reduction by nZVI, while Cd and Zn were removed by alkali precipitation and complexation. Fibers, originating from nature and mastered by human, have woven their way throughout the entire history of human civilization. Recent developments in semiconducting polymer materials have further endowed fibers and textiles with various electronic functions, which are attractive in applications such as information interfacing, personalized medicine, and clean energy. Owing to their ability to be easily integrated into daily life, soft fiber electronics based on semiconducting polymers have gained popularity recently for wearable and implantable applications. Herein, we present a review of the previous and current progress in semiconducting polymer-based fiber electronics, particularly focusing on smart-wearable and implantable areas. First, we provide a brief overview of semiconducting polymers from the viewpoint of materials based on the basic concepts and functionality requirements of different devices. Then we analyze the existing applications and associated devices such as information interfaces, healthcare and medicine, and energy conversion and storage. The working principle and performance of semiconducting polymer-based fiber devices are summarized. Furthermore, we focus on the fabrication techniques of fiber devices. Based on the continuous fabrication of one-dimensional fiber and yarn, we introduce two- and three-dimensional fabric fabricating methods. Tetherin prevents viral cross-species transmission by inhibiting the release of multiple enveloped viruses from infected cells. With the evolution of simian immunodeficiency virus of chimpanzees (SIVcpz), a pandemic human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) precursor, its Vpu protein can antagonize human tetherin (hTetherin). Macaca leonina (northern pig-tailed macaque [NPM]) is susceptible to HIV-1, but hostspecific restriction factors limit virus replication in vivo. In this study, we isolated the virus from NPMs infected with strain stHIV-1sv (with a macaque-adapted HIV-1 env gene from simian-human immunodeficiency virus SHIV-KB9, a vif gene replaced by SIVmac239, and other genes originating from HIV-1NL4.3) and found that a single acidic amino acid substitution (G53D) in Vpu could increase its ability to degrade the tetherin of macaques (mTetherin) mainly through the proteasome pathway, resulting in an enhanced release and resistance to interferon inhibition of the mutant stHIV-1sv strain, with no influence on the other functions of Vpu. IMPORTANCE HIV-1 has obvious host specificity, which has greatly hindered the construction of animal models and severely restricted the development of HIV-1 vaccines and drugs. To overcome this barrier, we attempted to isolate the virus from NPMs infected with stHIV-1sv, search for a strain with an adaptive mutation in NPMs, and develop a more appropriate nonhuman primate model of HIV-1. This is the first report identifying HIV-1 adaptations in NPMs. It suggests that while tetherin may limit HIV-1 cross-species transmission, the Vpu protein in HIV-1 can overcome this species barrier through adaptive mutation, increasing viral replication in the new host. Purpose: This paper aims to investigate the effects of different ultrasonic-assisted loading degrees on the microstructure, mechanical properties and the fracture morphology of Cu/Zn+15%SAC0307+15%Cu/Al solder joints. Design/methodology/approach: A new method in which 45 μm Zn particles were mixed with 15% 500 nm Cu particles and 15% 500 nm SAC0307 particles as solders (SACZ) and five different ultrasonic loading degrees were applied for realizing the soldering between Cu and Al at 240 °C and 8 MPa. Then, SEM was used to observe and analyze the soldering seam, interface microstructure and fracture morphology; the structural composition was determined by EDS; the phase of the soldering seam was characterized by XRD; and a PTR-1102 bonding tester was adopted to test the average shear strength. Findings: The results manifest that Al–Zn solid solution is formed on the Al side of the Cu/SACZ/Al joints, while the interface IMC (Cu5Zn8) is formed on the Cu side of the Cu/SACZ/Al joints. When single ultrasonic was used in soldering, the interface IMC (Cu5Zn8) gradually thickens with the increase of ultrasonic degree. It is observed that the proportion of Zn or ZnO areas in solders decreases, and the proportion of Cu–Zn compound areas increases with the variation of ultrasonic degree. The maximum shear strength of joint reaches 46.01 MPa when the dual ultrasonic degree is 60°. The fracture position of the joint gradually shifts from the Al side interface to the solders and then to the Cu side interface. Originality/value: The mechanism of ultrasonic action on micro-nanoparticles is further studied. By using different ultrasonic loading degrees to realize Cu/Al soldering, it is believed that the understandings gained in this study may offer some new insights for the development of low-temperature soldering methodology for heterogeneous materials. Comprehensive Summary: By simplifying the π‐bridge unit, a nonfused ring electron acceptor (NFREA) BM‐2F was designed and synthesized with several high‐yield steps. The specific molecular structure features of BM‐2F are planar molecular backbone and out‐of‐plane side chain, which is favorable for charge transport and can suppress the over‐aggregation. BM‐2F based neat and blend films display obvious face‐on molecular orientation. Specially, D18:BM‐2F based blend film can form good bicontinuous interpenetrating network. More excitingly, a power conversion efficiency of 16.15% was achieved with D18:BM‐2F based photovoltaic devices, which is the highest one based on NFREAs. Sequential deposition of the active layer in organic solar cells (OSCs) is favorable to circumvent the existing drawbacks associated with controlling the microstructure in bulk‐heterojunction (BHJ) device fabrication. However, how the processing solvents impact on the morphology during sequential deposition processes is still poorly understood. Herein, high‐efficiency OSCs are fabricated by a sequential blade coating (SBC) through optimization of the morphology evolution process induced by processing solvents. It is demonstrated that the device performance is highly dependent on the processing solvent of the upper layer. In situ morphology characterizations reveal that an obvious liquid–solid phase separation can be identified during the chlorobenzene processing of the D18 layer, corresponding to larger phase separation. During chloroform (CF) processing of the D18 layer, a proper aggregation rate of Y6 and favorable intermixing of lower and upper layers results in the enhanced crystallinity of the acceptor. This facilitates efficient exciton dissociation and charge transport with an inhibited charge recombination in the D18/CF‐based devices, contributing to a superior performance of 17.23%. These results highlight the importance of the processing solvent for the upper layer in the SBC strategy and suggest the great potential of achieving optimized morphology and high‐efficiency OSCs using the SBC strategy. Hydrogel coatings that can endow various substrates with superior properties (e.g., biocompatibility, hydrophilicity, and lubricity) have wide applications in the fields of oil/water separation, antifouling, anti-bioadhesion, etc. Currently, the engineering of multifunctional hydrogel-coated materials with superwettability and water purification property using a simple and sustainable strategy is still largely uninvestigated but has a beneficial effect on the world. Herein, we successfully prepared poly(2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulfonic acid) hydrogel/β-FeOOH-coated poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF/PAMPS/β-FeOOH) membrane through free-radical polymerization and the in situ mineralization process. In this work, owing to the combination of hydrophilic PAMPS hydrogel coating and β-FeOOH nanorods anchored onto PVDF membrane, the resultant PVDF/PAMPS/β-FeOOH membrane achieved outstanding superhydrophilicity/underwater superoleophobicity. Moreover, the membrane not only effectively separated surfactant-stabilized oil/water emulsions, but also possessed a long-term use capacity. In addition, excellent photocatalytic activity against organic pollutants was demonstrated so that the PVDF/PAMPS/β-FeOOH membrane could be utilized to deal with wastewater. The power conversion efficiency (PCE) of organic solar cells (OSCs) has reached high values of over 19%. However, most of the high‐efficiency OSCs are fabricated by spin‐coating with toxic solvents and the optimal photoactive layer thickness is limited to 100 nm, limiting practical development of OSCs. It is a great challenge to obtain ideal morphology for high‐efficiency thick‐film OSCs when using non‐halogenated solvents due to the unfavorable film formation kinetics. Herein, high‐efficiency ternary thick‐film (300 nm) OSCs with PCE of 15.4% based on PM6:BTR‐Cl:CH1007 are fabricated by hot slot‐die coating using non‐halogenated solvent (o‐xylene) in the air. Compared to PM6:BTR‐Cl:Y6 blends, the stronger pre‐aggregation of CH1007 in solution induces the earlier aggregation of CH1007 molecules and longer aggregation time, and thus results in high and balanced crystallinity of donors and acceptor in CH1007‐based ternary film, which led to high‐carrier mobility and suppressed charge recombination. The ternary strategy is further used to fabricate high‐efficiency, thick‐film, large‐area, and flexible devices processed from non‐halogenated solvents, paving the way for industrial development of OSCs. Prior results on the association between serum uric acid (UA) levels in the early trimester and the risk of small for gestational age (SGA) remain unclear. This study evaluated the association of maternal first-, second-, and third-trimester UA levels with the risk of SGA infants. A total of 23, 194 singleton mothers from the International Peace Maternity and Child Health Hospital between January 2014 and January 2017 were included. Maternal UA levels were measured at 12.1 ± 1.08th (UA1) and 32.2 ± 1.03th (UA2) gestational weeks. △UA was calculated as the difference between UA2 and UA1. Logistic regression and restricted cubic spline (RCS) were performed to evaluate the association between maternal UA and △UA during pregnancy and SGA. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was employed to assess the serum uric acid prediction value. Women in the higher quartiles of UA1 had a significantly higher risk of SGA. A clear increased risk for SGA was observed with higher quartiles for UA2 (p for trend <0.05). An approximately "J-shaped" relationship was observed between UA2 and △UA, and the risk of SGA was observed. When compared with those with a lower level of UA in the first trimester, those with a higher level of UA1, the more increase in the later UA levels were associated with a higher risk of SGA [adjusted odds ratio (aOR) = 1.67, 95% CI:1.37–2.05]. The ROC curve areas were 0.525 for UA1, 0.582 for UA2 and 0.576 for △UA. The findings suggested that non-preeclamptic and non-hypertensive women who experienced early pregnancy with high UA levels had an elevated risk of SGA. This study examined two ways of using the TikTok application (active vs. passive use), and their association with female users' self-esteem pertaining to appearance and weight. By adopting a cross-sectional online survey design, this study recruited 7,750 adult female TikTok users from China (Douyin), and acquired self-reported data on 2 ways of using TikTok, state-level social comparison, appearance-esteem, weight-esteem, body mass index, and age. The results indicated that passive and active TikTok uses were negatively and positively associated with participants' appearance- and weight-esteem, respectively. A mediation analysis revealed that the participants' state-level social comparison while using TikTok mediated the association between two ways of TikTok use, and their effects on appearance- and weight-esteem. Background: SQSTM1/p62 is a selective autophagy receptor that regulates multiple signaling pathways participating in the initiation and progression of tumors. Metastasis is still the main cause for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC)‐associated mortality. Hence, this study aimed to explore the mechanism of p62 promoting the progression of ICC. Methods: Western blotting and immunohistochemical analyses were conducted to detect the expression level of protein p62 in ICC tissues and its correlation with prognosis. Subsequently, the loss‐of‐function experiments in vitro and in vivo were performed to define the role of p62 in ICC cell proliferation, invasion, and metastasis. Then, the effect of p62 knockdown on mitochondrial function and mitophagy was evaluated by measuring the oxygen consumption rate, and using immunofluorescence and western blotting analyses. Results: The expression of p62 was significantly upregulated in ICC specimens compared with normal tissues. We further illustrated that p62 expression positively correlated with lymph node metastasis and poor prognosis. The loss‐of‐function assays revealed that p62 not only promoted ICC cell proliferation, migration, and invasive capacities in vitro, but also induced lung metastasis in the xenograft mouse model. Mechanistically, high expression of p62‐induced epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) with the upregulation of Snail, vimentin, N‐cadherin, and downregulation of E‐cadherin. Moreover, the autophagy‐dependent function of p62 might play a vital role in maintaining the mitochondrial function of ICC by mitophagy which might further promote EMT. Conclusion: These data provided new evidence for the mechanism by which abundant p62 expression promoted ICC progression, suggesting a promising therapeutic target for antimetastatic strategies in patients with ICC. Nanofiber bundles with specific areas bring a new opportunity for selective adsorption and oil/water or air separation. In this work, nanofiber bundles were prepared by the electrospinning of immiscible polystyrene (PS)/N-trifluoroacetylated polyamide 6 (PA6-TFAA) blends via the introduction of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) or a copolymer of styrene and 3-isopropenyl-α, α'-dimethylbenzene isocyanate (TMI), which was denoted as PS-co-TMI. Herein, CNT was used to increase the conductivity of the precursor for enhancing the stretch of PS droplets under the same electric field, and PS-co-TMI was used as a reactive compatibilizer to improve the compatibility of a PS/PA6-TFAA blend system for promoting the deformation. Those obtained nanofiber bundle membranes showed an increase in tensile strength and high hydrophobicity with a water contact angle of about 145.0 ± 0.5°. Owing to the special structure, the membranes also possessed a high oil adsorption capacity of 31.0 to 61.3 g/g for different oils. Moreover, it exhibits a high potential for gravity-driven oil/water separation. For example, those membranes had above 99% separation efficiency for silicon oil/water and paraffin wax/water. Furthermore, the air filtration efficiency of nanofiber bundle membranes could reach above 96%, which might be two to six times higher than the filtration efficiency of neat PS membranes. Broccoli ( Brassica oleracea var. italica ) is one of the cool season vegetables. Cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS), a condition that is maternally inherited and characterized by the inability of a plant to produce normal pollen, is widely utilized in heterosis breeding techniques in broccoli. However, the molecular mechanism underlying CMS in broccoli has not been completely elucidated. Microscopy observations have revealed the existence of an obvious cytological difference between flower buds of the CMS line ‘WN12-95A’ (MS) and its maintainer line ‘WN12-95B’ (FS). Furthermore, the CMS line failed to produce fertile pollen. In this study, we performed a comparative transcriptome analysis of flower buds using high-throughput RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq) technology to identify the differentially expressed genes and critical metabolism pathways associated with CMS in broccoli. More than 24 and 53.5 million transcriptome reads were assembled into 39,694 unigenes in MS and 44,513 unigenes in FS. The comparative analysis results indicated differential expression of 218 unigenes, including 145 downregulated and 73 upregulated unigenes. Many of these differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were related to carbohydrate metabolism, lipid metabolism, pollen wall development, glutathione metabolism, and cysteine-rich protein metabolism. The expression profiles of five DEGs were also determined by qRT-PCR. The results revealed that male sterility in broccoli might contribute to the presence of candidate DEGs. Baicalein (BA), one of the major compounds isolated from the root of Scutellaria baicalensis Gerogi, exhibits various pharmacological effects, such as anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer effects. In this study, we found that BA reduced cell viability and increased apoptosis in ovarian cancer cells. Treatment of cells with BA enhanced microtubule-associated protein light chain 3-II (LC3-II) expression, acidic vesicular organelle and GFP-LC3 fluorescence dot accumulation. Combined treatment with chloroquine and BA apparently reduced cell viability and increased the cleavage of poly (ADPribose) polymerase (PARP) in both HEY and A2780 ovarian cancer cell lines, indicating that BA induces a protective autophagy in these cells. Knockdown of Beclin 1 by siRNA remarkably decreased BA-induced LC3-II lipidation. In addition, we found an increase in the phosphorylation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK, Thr202/Thr204) and AKT (Ser473) after BA treatment, and inhibition of ERK activation by the pharmacological inhibitor U0126 or ERK siRNA blocked BA-induced autophagy. Purpose: The main goal of this study was to compare the quality of life (QOL) and its association with physical activity (PA) among patients diagnosed with different types of cancer. Based on the results, we tentatively present suggestions for the cancer health care model. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 2915 cancer survivors recruited from multi-community cancer rehabilitation centers, all of which were affiliated with the Shanghai Cancer Rehabilitation Club. We collected data including socio-demographic characteristics and information about PA. All the subjects included were asked to complete the European Organization for Research and Treatment Quality of Life Questionnaires (EORTC QLQ-C30) and Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy—General Questionnaire (FACT-G). Multiple linear regression models were employed to control the potential confounding factors. Results: Lung cancer survivors reported the worst dyspnea. Colorectal cancer survivors claimed the highest level of constipation and diarrhea. Liver cancer survivors indicated greatest loss of appetite and financial difficulties. Generally, survivors with PA tended to reported better QOL, although these associations among liver cancer survivors were not statistically significant. Moreover, survivors of all cancer types who performed PA did not report significant lower level of constipation or diarrhea. The relationship between PA frequency and QOL among cancer survivors remained unexplored. Conclusions: Both QOL and its association with PA vary among survivors of different cancer types. The large energy loss (Eloss) is one of the main obstacles to further improve the photovoltaic performance of organic solar cells (OSCs), which is closely related to the charge transfer (CT) state. Herein, ternary donor alloy strategy is used to precisely tune the energy of CT state (ECT) and thus the Eloss for boosting the efficiency of OSCs. The elevated ECT in the ternary OSCs reduce the energy loss for charge generation (ΔECT), and promote the hybridization between localized excitation state and CT state to reduce the nonradiative energy loss (ΔEnonrad). Together with the optimal morphology, the ternary OSCs afford an impressive power conversion efficiency of 19.22% with a significantly improved open‐circuit voltage (Voc) of 0.910 V without sacrificing short‐cicuit density (Jsc) and fill factor (FF) in comparison to the binary ones. This contribution reveals that precisely tuning the ECT via donor alloy strategy is an efficient way to minimize Eloss and improve the photovoltaic performance of OSCs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: To investigate the auditory pathway functions in deaf patients with Mondini malformation using the electrically evoked auditory brainstem response (EABR) during cochlear implantation (CI). Methods: A total of 58 patients with severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) were included in this study. Of these patients, 27 cases had Mondini malformation and 31 control cases had no inner ear malformations (IEMs). Intraoperative EABRs evoked by electrical stimulation at the round window niche (RWN) and round window membrane (RWM) were recorded. Results: Patients with Mondini malformation showed significantly lower EABR extraction rates than those with no IEMs did. However, for patients who showed EABRs, no significant difference in EABR thresholds, wave III (eIII) latencies, wave V (eV) latencies or eIII–eV latency intervals was found between two groups. Conclusion: The physiological functions of the peripheral auditory system in patients with Mondini malformation may divide into opposite extremes, as revealed by a robust EABR and the absence of the EABR, respectively. A lithiophilic Sn–Co nano-seed sealed in a nitrogen-doped carbon shell is designed to stabilize lithium metal anodes, in which lithiophilic alloys can regulate lithium deposition behavior and the hollow carbon shell is beneficial to prevent agglomeration. The modified lithium anode can be stable for 1350 h and 400 h under 1 mA cm−2 and 5 mA cm−2 in symmetric cells. A modular approach to azulene building blocks was developed starting from readily available aryl‐substituted cyclopentadiene and ortho‐haloaryl aldehyde by dehydration condensation followed by palladium‐catalyzed C−H coupling. It facilitates the synthesis of four nonalternant isomers of pentacene and hexacene, namely, dibenzo[e,g]azulene, benzo[1,2‐f : 5,4‐f′]diazulene, benzo[1,2‐f : 4,5‐f′]diazulene, and naphtho[2,3‐f : 6,7‐f′]diazulene, which exhibit narrow band gaps with high stability in addition to protonation‐caused enhanced near‐infrared fluorescence. We discovered that in these isomers, i) constitutional isomerism influences significantly their photoelectric properties and ii) the elongation of the conjugation system does not necessarily lead to a narrowing in the band gap. A modular approach to azulene building blocks was developed starting from readily available aryl‐substituted cyclopentadiene and ortho‐haloaryl aldehyde by dehydration condensation followed by palladium‐catalyzed C−H coupling. It facilitates the synthesis of four nonalternant isomers of pentacene and hexacene, namely, dibenzo[e,g]azulene, benzo[1,2‐f : 5,4‐f′]diazulene, benzo[1,2‐f : 4,5‐f′]diazulene, and naphtho[2,3‐f : 6,7‐f′]diazulene, which exhibit narrow band gaps with high stability in addition to protonation‐caused enhanced near‐infrared fluorescence. We discovered that in these isomers, i) constitutional isomerism influences significantly their photoelectric properties and ii) the elongation of the conjugation system does not necessarily lead to a narrowing in the band gap. In recent years, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have dominated the field of computer vision. Compared to traditional methods, these neural network algorithms exhibit strong biomimetic performance advantages in complex visual tasks due to their brain-like structure. However, because some necessary neural characteristics are ignored, these neural network algorithms differ greatly from the computational mechanisms of the brain. This paper starts with extracting basic visual features such as motion direction information from the brain and abstracts, generalizes and models a novel artificial visual system (AVS) for detecting object motion direction in color images based on existing relevant neurophysiological knowledge. We propose a mathematical model and quantification mechanism for each component neuron that generates motion direction selectivity in the visual system using dendritic neuron models, spiking neural network concepts and neurophysiological knowledge of retinal direction-selective ganglion cell pathways. The experiment is based on one million instances of object motion under different environments of noise-free, static and dynamic random noise, dynamic salt-and-pepper noise, dynamic Gaussion noise, and dynamic light changing. In comparison with 4 famous CNNs, LeNet-5, EfficientNetB0, ResNet18, and RegNetX-200MF, we test and verify AVS's effectiveness, efficiency and strong generalization ability as well as other biomimetic performance advantages including high biological rationality, learning-free capability, interpretability and ease-of-use etc. AVS demonstrates that neuroscience still has important implications for guiding and promoting the development of artificial intelligence technology. Furthermore, AVS firstly provides a successful quantitative reference case study for further understanding motion direction selectivity and other primary cortical encoding characteristics in the brain. • We provide the first quantitative explanation of how mammalian brains achieve motion direction selectivity in a colored environment, which serves as a successful reference case for understanding and offering insights into other perceptual systems encoded in the cortex. • We propose a novel bio-inspired motion direction detection algorithm, called AVS, with high biological plausibility. • Comparing AVS with 4 classical and state-of-the-art convolutional neural networks, LeNet-5, ResNet18, EfficientNetB0, and RegNetX-200MF, we also validate its remarkable performance in terms of effectiveness, efficiency, generalizability, complexity and biological plausibility. • AVS indicates the great potential for neuroscience theories to further promote neural network algorithms and artificial intelligence technologies. Research on the visual system and its development is not only crucial for understanding how we see and interpret the environment from basic visual processing to complex perception but also aids in the development of technologies like virtual reality, augmented reality, and computer vision. In our previous paper, we have proposed a novel biological motion direction detection mechanism. Based on this mechanism, the authors of this paper proposed a learning artificial visual system (AVS) and use it to achieve motion direction detection. The learning AVS consists of two layers: the local visual feature detective neuron layer and the global feature detective neuron layer. For local motion direction detection, we use dendritic neurons to implement local motion direction-detective neurons and use them to extract local motion direction information. Global feature detective neurons are simply implemented by summing the local motion direction-detective neurons in each direction of possible motion. We trained the learning AVS by eliminating unnecessary branches or synapses and keeping only those that are strongly connected to the function of motion direction detection. Computer simulations demonstrate that AVS can learn the correct motion direction of objects with different shapes, size and positions. We compare the performance of AVS with support vector machine (SVM) and traditional convolutional neural networks (CNNs)—LeNet-5 and EfficientNet-B0 (EfN)—in motion direction detection and find that our learning AVS has better recognition accuracy, noise immunity and less demands on size of dataset and learning costs. To tackle the challenge for materials in the fields such as deep space exploration with flexibility, light weight, high strength, and highly efficient neutron shielding properties, a novel organic-inorganic composites has been developed in this study. Based on ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fibers self-reinforcing linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) matrix method and hierarchical scattering and absorption strategy, a flexibly and light-weight multilayer structure has been designed with alternating gadolinium oxide (Gd 2 O 3)/LLDPE layers and UHMWPE fiber layers by stacking hot-pressing to augment the mechanical properties and neutron shielding efficiency of the composites. Moreover, PE, including UHMWPE fibers and LLDPE matrix, and Gd 2 O 3 has been utilized as neutron shielding element to enhance its neutron scattering and absorption capability via an abundance of hydrogen atoms and Gd element. The neutron shielding performance of the multilayer Gd 2 O 3 /UHMWPE/LLDPE composite, with a low density of ca. 1 g/cm3, has been verified by neutron shielding test and a simulation method of equivalent Gd areal density (EGdAD). As a result, an ca. 90.0% neutron shielding efficiency can be achieved with only 2 mm thickness of the composites (with 20 wt% Gd 2 O 3), and an EGdAD value of 0.0489 g/cm3 is required to achieve 99% shielding efficiency. Moreover, the composites have a significant improvement in the tensile strength and modulus, with an average increase of 1000% (15.86 MPa–179.95 MPa) and 1238% (230.53 MPa–2787.55 MPa) compared to the Gd 2 O 3 /LLDPE composites, respectively. The comprehensive performance of our developed multilayer Gd 2 O 3 /UHMWPE/LLDPE composites is superior to previously reported results in the literatures.
