Magnesium (Mg) alloy wheels formed by single-step back extrusion currently faced with the phenomenon of coarse grains at the spokes, insufficient recrystallization, and easy cracking at the upper rim, which seriously affects the service performance and yield of the wheel. Based on the actual production process conditions of Mg alloy wheels, this paper simplifies the numerical model of the wheel back extrusion and proposes a truncated cone billet for wheel back extrusion by analyzing the streamline in the current wheel forming process. Research indicates that during the forming process of the cylindrical billet, the upper edge material of the billet fills the rim, the lower edge material fills the lower rim, and the lower core material forms the wheel spokes. Compared with cylindrical billets, truncated cone billets can increase the effective strain, dynamic recrystallize volume fraction and refine grains at the spokes and the lower rim. Simultaneously, the truncated cone billets can improve the fluidity at the rim, making the rim filling easier and reducing the cracking tendency at the upper rim. The truncated cone billet is of great significance to the back extrusion forming of Mg alloy wheels.

In this study, the extruded Mg–Zn–Mn–Ce–Ca alloy tube with a weak basal fiber texture, i.e. the {0001} plane is distributed along the TD with 0°∼30° deflection towards ED, was fabricated. The alloy tube exhibits a low mechanical anisotropy in the tensile process at room temperature. To clarify the relationship between the weak texture and the low mechanical anisotropy, the microstructure and deformation mechanism of the alloy tube in the tensile process along the ED, 45ED and TD were studied. The results revealed that during yielding, the deformation in ED sample was governed by predominant prismatic slip, and a portion of additional basal slip and lowest pyramidal slip, while predominant basal slip and accompanied by a high fraction of prismatic slip and lowest pyramidal slip for both 45ED and TD samples. These relatively high additional slips result from the weak texture, which attenuates the deformation differences among the three samples. After yielding, the three samples underwent similar prismatic slip transition and twin nucleation quantity. Additionally, the {0001} plane displayed to converge towards the RD after tensile fracture, which may be related to the twins and intragranular slip. Especially for 45ED and TD samples, relatively high basal slip may cause their {0001} plane to tend to be parallel to the loading direction. In summary, the similar deformation mechanisms governed by weak texture along the three directions resulted in the low mechanical anisotropic of the alloy tube.

Abstract Background Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most frequent tumor of the head and neck. The glycolysis-related genes and immune-related genes have been proven prognostic values in various cancers. Our study aimed to test the prognostic value of glycolysis-immune-related genes in OSCC. Methods Data of OSCC patients were obtained from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) databases. Enrichment analysis was applied to the glycolysis- and immune-related genes screened by differential expression analysis. Univariate Cox and LASSO Cox analyses were used to filtrate the genes related to the prognosis of OSCC and to construct Risk Score model. Results A Risk Score model was constructed by six glycolysis-immune-related genes (including ALDOC, VEGFA, HRG, PADI3, IGSF11 and MIPOL1). High risk OSCC patients (Risk Score >−0.3075) had significantly worse overall survival than that of low risk patients (Risk Score

Guanylate-binding proteins (GBPs) recognize pathogen containing vacuoles, leading to lysis of this intracellular niche and induction of inflammasomes. Here, Cao et al. show that Y. pestis, the causative agent of plague, secret two functionally redundant E3 ligase, YspE1 and YspE2, into the host’s cytosol to ubiquitinate multiple GBPs for proteasomal degradation to subvert host immune defense. This capability appears to be newly acquired by Y. pestis during evolution, since its closely related progenitor Y. pseudotuberculosis is unable to do so.

Conbercept is a novel anti-vascular endothelial growth factor drug independently developed by China. Since it was approved for clinical application by the State Food and Drug Administration of China in 2013, conbercept has shown reliable safety and efficacy in the treatment of ocular neovascular diseases such as wet age-related macular degeneration, choroidal neovascularization and macular edema. For different diseases, the treatment strategies of conbercept are different. This article mainly reviews the application progress of conbercept in ocular neovascularization related diseases including wet age-related macular degeneration, diabetic macular edema, pathologic myopia choroidal neovascularization, neovascular glaucoma, retinopathy of prematurity and corneal neovascularization, and summarizes and explores the indications, administration scheme and therapeutic effect of conbercept. It is expected that the indications of conbercept will be wider and the administration scheme will be more given, and the usage of conbercept will bring new ideas for the treatment of ocular neovascular diseases.

Abstract Pinocembrin (Pin) has been confirmed to exert anti-inflammatory and antiatherosclerotic effects. Here we have explored whether and how Pin would protect vascular endothelial cells against pyroptosis elicited by the exposure to oxidized low density lipoprotein (oxLDL). Our results showed that Pin preconditioning dose-dependently suppressed oxLDL-stimulated HUVEC injury and pyroptosis, which were manifested by improved cell viability, lower lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels and DNA damage as well as decreased expression of pyroptosis-related markers, such as NOD-like receptor pyrin domain-containing 3 (NLRP3), apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing a caspase activation and recruitment domain (ASC), pro-Caspase-1, cleaved Caspase-1, N-terminus of Gasdermin D-N (GSDMD-N), pro-interleukins-1β (pro-IL-1β), IL-1β and inflammatory cytokines (IL-18 and IL-1β). All of the effects were similar to those of MCC950 (an NLRP3 inhibitor). As expected, Pin distinctly activated the Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) antioxidative signaling pathway assessed through increased expressions of Nrf2, heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) and NAD(P)H quinone oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1). Furthermore, after transfection with small interfering RNA of Nrf2, the inhibitory effects of Pin on oxLDL-triggered NLRP3 inflammasome/GSDMD-mediated pyroptosis and oxidative stress in HUVECs were weakened. Additionally, Pin up-regulated Nrf2/HO-1 axis and down-regulated NLRP3 inflammasome/GSDMD-mediated pyroptosis signals in Apoe−/− mice fed with high fat diet. These results contribute to the understanding of the anti-pyroptosis mechanisms of Pin and provide a reference for future research on the anti-atherosclerotic effect of Pin.

Based on failure probability of the highest single phase ground fault in distribution network by the power differential method and differential current method to deal with failure, installed the reclosing device, and through the simulink simulation, verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme, can effectively deal with the distribution network fault, to deal with instant fault and permanent fault, effectively reduce misoperation. In this paper, the scheme of setting the setting value independently is adopted, which can quickly restore the power supply in non-fault area and improve the continuity of power supply. It has very broad engineering application scenarios.

To obtain the characteristics of the gas hydrate reservoirs at GMGS3-W19, extensive geophysical logging data and cores were analyzed to assess the reservoir properties. Sediment porosities were estimated from density, neutron, and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) logs. Both the resistivity and NMR logs were used to calculate gas hydrate saturations, the Simandoux model was employed to eliminate the effects of high clay content determined based on the ECS and core data. The density porosity was closely in agreement with the core-derived porosity, and the neutron porosity was higher while the NMR porosity was lower than the density porosity of sediments without hydrates. The resistivity log has higher vertical resolution than the NMR log and thus is more favorable for assessing gas hydrate saturation with strong heterogeneity. For the gas hydrate reservoirs at GMGS3-W19, the porosity, gas hydrate saturation and free gas saturation was 52.7%, 42.7% and 10%, on average, respectively. The various logs provide different methods for the comprehensive evaluation of hydrate reservoir, which supports the selection of candidate site for gas hydrate production testing.©2022 China Geology Editorial Office.

Introduction: Evidence indicates that the cerebellum is involved in cognitive processing. However, the specific mechanisms through which the cerebellum repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) contributes to the cognitive state are unclear. Methods: In the current randomized, double-blind, sham-controlled trial, 27 patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) were randomly allotted to one of the two groups: rTMS-real or rTMS-sham. We investigated the efficacy of a four-week treatment of bilateral cerebellum rTMS to promote cognitive recovery and alter specific cerebello-cerebral functional connectivity. Results: The cerebellum rTMS significantly improves multi-domain cognitive functions, directly associated with the observed intrinsic functional connectivity between the cerebellum nodes and the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC), medial frontal cortex, and the cingulate cortex in the real rTMS group. In contrast, the sham stimulation showed no significant impact on the clinical improvements and the cerebello-cerebral connectivity. Conclusion: Our results depict that 5 Hz rTMS of the bilateral cerebellum is a promising, non-invasive treatment of cognitive dysfunction in AD patients. This cognitive improvement is accompanied by brain connectivity modulation and is consistent with the pathophysiological brain disconnection model in AD patients.

Abstract Children with orofacial clefting (OFC) present with a wide range of dental anomalies. Identifying these anomalies is vital to understand their etiology and to discern the complex phenotypic spectrum of OFC. Such anomalies are currently identified using intra-oral exams by dentists, a costly and time-consuming process. We claim that automating the process of anomaly detection using deep neural networks (DNNs) could increase efficiency and provide reliable anomaly detection while potentially increasing the speed of research discovery. This study characterizes the use of` DNNs to identify dental anomalies by training a DNN model using intraoral photographs from the largest international cohort to date of children with nonsyndromic OFC and controls (OFC1). In this project, the intraoral images were submitted to a Convolutional Neural Network model to perform multi-label multi-class classification of 10 dental anomalies. The network predicts whether an individual exhibits any of the 10 anomalies and can do so significantly faster than a human rater can. For all but three anomalies, F1 scores suggest that our model performs competitively at anomaly detection when compared to a dentist with 8 years of clinical experience. In addition, we use saliency maps to provide a post-hoc interpretation for our model’s predictions. This enables dentists to examine and verify our model’s predictions.

Abstract Objective Based on the social-ecological model, this study aimed to comprehensively explore factors affecting the risk of ischemic cerebrovascular disease (ICVD) in postmenopausal women to provide theoretical bases for further prevention and intervention for postmenopausal women. Methods Postmenopausal women who underwent medical examinations in one health-checkup agency in Tianjin from May 2015 to October 2015 were enrolled in this study. The ICVD 10-year Risk Assesment Form developed by the research team of the National "Tenth Five-Year Plan" research project was used to assess the factors affecting the risk of ICVD. Based on the social-ecological model, multiple types of scales, including physical activities, depression, Type D personality, social supports, and environment score, were used to comprehensively explore the factors associated with ICVD in postmenopausal women. Results 300 valid questionnaires were obtained, with an effective rate of 92.0%. The subjects aged 44–74 years, with the average age of 62.06 ± 7.09 years. Among them, 58.67% of the subjects only obtained high-school diploma, 32.67% obtained college or university diploma, 90.33% were retirees, 95.33% were married, 92.33% experienced the natural menopause, 93.33% lived in urban or suburban areas, and 1.00% had a history of breast cancer. Multivariate logistic regression analysis suggested that monthly income (¥), parity, exposure to second-hand or third-hand smoke, easy access to healthy food, physical activities, depression, Type D personality, social support and environmental factors were associated with the risk of ICVD in postmenopausal women (P 1 means that the exposure factor is positively correlated with the disease, and the exposure factor increases the risk of disease occurrence. Conclusions For postmenopausal women, in the future, in addition to prevention and management of the conventional risks, the conditions of their mentality and social support should be paid attention to, at the same time, and if they can, try to choose a good community environment to live in, which could better reduce the incidence and mortality of ICVD in postmenopausal women.

The mental health of older adults has become one of the major health challenges facing society today, which has attracted wide concerns from scholars in urban areas, but research in rural areas has been neglected. Therefore, this paper took rural older adult residents of 11 sample villages in Jintang County, Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, as the research object. After controlling the demographic characteristics of older adults in rural areas, this paper attempted to explore the effects of the rural built Environment on the mental health of older adults. Through field investigation in the sample villages, 515 valid questionnaires were obtained. The results from the Binary Logistic Regression Model show that good marital status, physical health, education level, well-constructed roads, and safe neighborhoods had significant positive effects on the mental health of rural older adults. Rural older adults who prefer to walk, cycle, and use public transport have better mental health, and accessibility to the periodic market, health station, bus station, village committee, supermarket, and the main road is positively correlated with the mental health of rural older adults, while the distance from home to the town center and coach terminal has a significant negative impact on the mental health of rural older adults. The research results provide a theoretical reference for further construction of rural aging environments.

BackgroundOn September 28, 2022, the first case of Omicron subvariant BF.7 was discovered among coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections in Hohhot, China, and then the epidemic broke out on a large scale during the National Day holiday. It is imminently necessary to construct a mathematical model to investigate the transmission dynamics of COVID-19 in Hohhot.MethodsIn this study, we first investigated the epidemiological characteristics of COVID-19 cases in Hohhot, including the spatiotemporal distribution and sociodemographic distribution. Then, we proposed a time-varying Susceptible-Quarantined Susceptible-Exposed-Quarantined Exposed-Infected-Asymptomatic-Hospitalized-Removed (SQEIAHR) model to derive the epidemic curves. The next-generation matrix method was used to calculate the effective reproduction number (Re). Finally, we explored the effects of higher stringency measures on the development of the epidemic through scenario analysis.ResultsOf the 4,889 positive infected cases, the vast majority were asymptomatic and mild, mainly concentrated in central areas such as Xincheng District. People in the 30–59 age group primarily were affected by the current outbreak, accounting for 53.74%, but females and males were almost equally affected (1.03:1). Community screening (35.70%) and centralized isolation screening (26.28%) were the main ways to identify positive infected cases. Our model predicted the peak of the epidemic on October 6, 2022, the dynamic zero-COVID date on October 15, 2022, a number of peak cases of 629, and a cumulative number of infections of 4,963 (95% confidential interval (95%CI): 4,692 ~ 5,267), all four of which were highly consistent with the actual situation in Hohhot. Early in the outbreak, the basic reproduction number (R0) was approximately 7.01 (95%CI: 6.93 ~ 7.09), and then Re declined sharply to below 1.0 on October 6, 2022. Scenario analysis of higher stringency measures showed the importance of decreasing the transmission rate and increasing the quarantine rate to shorten the time to peak, dynamic zero-COVID and an Re below 1.0, as well as to reduce the number of peak cases and final affected population.ConclusionOur model was effective in predicting the epidemic trends of COVID-19, and the implementation of a more stringent combination of measures was indispensable in containing the spread of the virus.

PurposeIt has been reported that breast cancer (BC) with low expression of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) might be a distinct subtype of BC. However, the prognostic effect of low HER2 expression on BC patients remains controversial. We aim to conduct this single-institution retrospective analysis to assess HER2-low-positive BC outcomes in Chinese women and the prognostic role of TILs in HER2-low-positive early-stage BC.MethodWe retrospectively enrolled 1,763 BC patients treated in a single institution from 2017 to 2018. TILs are regarded as continuous variables and are divided into low TILs (≤10%) and high TILs (>10%) for statistical analysis. Univariate and multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to test the associations between TILs and disease-free survival (DFS) with adjustment for clinicopathologic characteristics.ResultHigh TIL levels (>10%) were associated with tumor size (>2 cm, p = 0.042), age at diagnosis (p = 0.005), Ki-67 index (>25%; p 10%), DFS was significantly improved in both the univariate (HR = 0.44, 95% CI 0.22–0.87, P = 0.018) and multivariate (HR = 0.47, 95% CI 0.23–0.95, P = 0.035) Cox models. For further subgroup analysis, HR (+)/HER2-low-positive BC with high TIL (>10%) levels was associated with improved DFS in both the univariate (HR = 0.41, 95% CI 0.19–0.90, P = 0.025) and multivariate (HR = 0.42, 95% CI 0.19–0.93, P = 0.032) Cox models. The HR (−)/HER2-0 BC with high TIL (>10%) level was not statistically significant in the univariate Cox model, but it was statistically significant in the multivariate (HR = 0.16, 95% CI 0.28–0.96, P = 0.045) Cox model.ConclusionAmong early-stage BC, no significant survival difference could be found between the HER2-positive, HER2-low-positive, and HER2-0 cohorts. High levels of TILs were significantly associated with improved DFS in HER2-low-positive patients, especially in the HR (+)/HER2-low-positive subtype.

ABSTRACT Aztreonam-avibactam, eravacycline, and cefoselis are three novel antimicrobial agents for the treatment of serious infections caused by Gram-negative bacteria. We evaluated the in vitro activities of the above-mentioned three antimicrobial agents against clinical Enterobacterales isolates. A total of 1,202 Enterobacterales isolates, including 10 genera or species, were collected from 26 hospitals that cover seven regions of China. The susceptibilities of the 30 antimicrobial agents were interpreted based on the combination of U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute guidelines. The results indicated that all Enterobacterales isolates showed high susceptibility to aztreonam-avibactam (98.25%), eravacycline (85.69%), and cefoselis (62.73%). The first two antimicrobial agents also demonstrated potent activities against multidrug-resistant and carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales independent of antimicrobial resistance mechanisms. The rates of susceptibility to aztreonam-avibactam, eravacycline, and cefoselis were lowest in Morganella spp. (84.42%), Proteus spp. (33.65%), and Escherichia coli (40.14%), respectively. In general, the lower rates of susceptibility to eravacycline and cefoselis were in the older inpatient group. The strains isolated from urinary tract exhibited the lowest rate of susceptibility (78.97%) to eravacycline, and the lowest rate of susceptibility (45.83%) to cefoselis was observed in nervous system specimens. The strains isolated from intensive care unit (ICU) wards showed significantly reduced susceptibility to cefoselis compared with those isolated from non-ICU wards. The MIC values of aztreonam-avibactam and ceftazidime-avibactam have poor consistency (weighted kappa = 0.243), as did eravacycline and tigecycline (weighted kappa = 0.478). Cefoselis and cefepime showed highly similar activities against Enterobacterales (weighted kappa = 0.801). Our results support the clinical development of aztreonam-avibactam, eravacycline, and cefoselis to treat infections caused by Enterobacterales. IMPORTANCE Infections caused by multidrug-resistant (MDR) Enterobacterales, especially carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE), have been a challenging clinical problem due to the limited therapeutic options. Therefore, the need to develop novel antimicrobial agents and evaluate their activities against Enterobacterales in vitro is urgent. Our results show that the novel antimicrobial agents aztreonam-avibactam and eravacycline retain activities against MDR and CRE isolates, including carbapenemase producers and non-carbapenemase producers. Further analysis combined with clinical information on the strains tested revealed that no significant differences were observed in susceptibility rates of strains with different demographic parameters to aztreonam-avibactam. Age, specimen source, and department were associated with the susceptibility of strains to eravacycline and cefoselis (P ≤ 0.01). Compared with ceftazidime-avibactam, aztreonam-avibactam has its advantages and limitations against Enterobacterales. The potent activity of eravacycline against Enterobacterales was higher than that of tigecycline. Cefoselis and cefepime showed a highly consistent activity against Enterobacterales.

Sex differentiation is an intricate process regulated by a complicatedly organized network especially in hermaphroditic fish. The brown-marbled grouper (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus) is a protogynous hermaphroditic fish, however, the regulatory mechanism of its sex differentiation is still unclear. In present study, transcriptome sequencing of the gonads at 117 dph and 259 dph was performed to explore the molecular mechanism underlying sex differentiation. A total of 37,434,906,973 clean reads were generated from six cDNA libraries. QPCR results of 12 genes related to sex differentiation indicated the reliability of transcriptome data. RNA-seq data showed that the genes in retinoic acid signal pathway participate in the early stage of sex differentiation. When the oocyte was observed in histology, the germ cell had finished the preparation of first meiosis with high expression of many meiosis-related genes, including sycp1, sycp3, mlh3, crem, spo11, msh5, and rec8. The germ cells in 259 dph gonad were classified into six stages by their histological morphology. Besides, male-related genes, gsdf, sox9, dmrt1, and dmrt3, might play roles in sex differentiation. Our study, for the first time, investigated the transcriptome from brown-marbled grouper, and identified functional genes, GO terms, and KEGG pathways involved in sex differentiation. These data will contribute to future studies on the molecular mechanism of sex differentiation in teleost.

IntroductionThe attenuation correction technique of single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) images is essential for early diagnosis, therapeutic evaluation, and pharmacokinetic studies of lung cancer. 99mTc-3PRGD2 is a novel radiotracer for the early diagnosis and evaluation of treatment effects of lung cancer. This study preliminary discusses the deep learning method to directly correct the attenuation of 99mTc-3PRGD2 chest SPECT images.MethodsRetrospective analysis was performed on 53 patients with pathological diagnosis of lung cancer who received 99mTc-3PRGD2 chest SPECT/CT. All patients’ SPECT/CT images were reconstructed with CT attenuation correction (CT-AC) and without attenuation correction (NAC). The CT-AC image was used as the reference standard (Ground Truth) to train the attenuation correction (DL-AC) SPECT image model using deep learning. A total of 48 of 53 cases were divided randomly into the training set, the remaining 5 were divided into the testing set. Using 3D Unet neural network, the mean square error loss function (MSELoss) of 0.0001 was selected. A testing set is used to evaluate the model quality, using the SPECT image quality evaluation and quantitative analysis of lung lesions tumor-to-background (T/B).ResultsSPECT imaging quality metrics between DL-AC and CT-AC including mean absolute error (MAE), mean-square error (MSE), peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), structural similarity (SSIM), normalized root mean square error (NRMSE), and normalized Mutual Information (NMI) of the testing set are 2.62 ± 0.45, 58.5 ± 14.85, 45.67 ± 2.80, 0.82 ± 0.02, 0.07 ± 0.04, and 1.58 ± 0.06, respectively. These results indicate PSNR > 42, SSIM > 0.8, and NRMSE < 0.11. Lung lesions T/B (maximum) of CT-AC and DL-AC groups are 4.36 ± 3.52 and 4.33 ± 3.09, respectively (p = 0.81). There are no significant differences between two attenuation correction methods.ConclusionOur preliminary research results indicate that using the DL-AC method to directly correct 99mTc-3PRGD2 chest SPECT images is highly accurate and feasible for SPECT without configuration with CT or treatment effect evaluation using multiple SPECT/CT scans.

Fungal pathogens are a major threat to public health, as they are becoming increasingly common and resistant to treatment, with only four classes of antifungal medicines currently available and few candidates in the clinical development pipeline. Most fungal pathogens lack rapid and sensitive diagnostic techniques, and those that exist are not widely available or affordable. In this study, we introduce a novel automated antifungal susceptibility testing system, Droplet 48, which detects the fluorescence of microdilution wells in real time and fits growth characteristics using fluorescence intensity over time. We concluded that all reportable ranges of Droplet 48 were appropriate for clinical fungal isolates in China. Reproducibility within ±2 two-fold dilutions was 100%. Considering the Sensititre YeastOne Colorimetric Broth method as a comparator method, eight antifungal agents (fluconazole, itraconazole, voriconazole, caspofungin, micafungin, anidulafungin, amphotericin B, and 5-flucytosine) showed an essential agreement of >90%, except for posaconazole (86.62%). Category agreement of four antifungal agents (fluconazole, caspofungin, micafungin, and anidulafungin) was >90%, except for voriconazole (87.93% agreement). Two Candida albicans isolates and anidulafungin showed a major discrepancy (MD) (2.60%), and no other MD or very MD agents were found. Therefore, Droplet 48 can be considered as an optional method that is more automated and can obtain results and interpretations faster than previous methods. However, the optimization of the detection performance of posaconazole and voriconazole and promotion of Droplet 48 in clinical microbiology laboratories still require further research involving more clinical isolates in the future.

Objectives In solving the global challenge of sleep disorders, Mobile Health app is one of the important means to monitor, diagnose, and intervene in sleep disorders. This study aims to (1) summarize the status and trends of research in this field; (2) assess the production and usage of sleep mHealth apps; (3) calculate the conversion rate of grants that the proportion of newly developed apps from being funded and developed to published on application stores. Methods Using bibliometric and content analysis methods, based on “Research Paper-Product Output-Product Application” chain and considering the “Research Grants” of articles, we conducted a systematic review of eight databases, to identify relevant studies over the last decade. Results Over the past decade, 1399 authors published 313 papers in 182 journals and conferences. The number of publications increased with an average annual growth of 41.6%. The current focus area is research using cognitive behavioral therapy to intervene in sleep. Sleep-staging tracking is a shortcoming of this field. A total 368 sleep mHealth apps (233 newly developed and 135 existing) were examined in 313 papers; 323 grants supported 178 articles (56.9%). Only 12 of the newly developed apps are used in the real world, resulting in a 9% grant conversion rate. Conclusions In the last decade, the field of tracking, diagnosing, and intervening in sleep disorders using mHealth apps has shown a trend of rapid development. However, the conversion rate of products from being funded and developed for use by end-users is low.

Nanoemulsions of a terpene-rich by-product (TP) from commercial cannabidiol (CBD) production were successfully formulated and characterized. An enriched terpene distillate (DTP) was also obtained from steam distillation of TP and used for making nanoemulsions. The effects of formulation conditions including the hydrophilic lipophilic balance (HLB) value of the surfactant, TP and surfactant content, and sonication time on the properties of the emulsions were analyzed. The optimal formulation conditions were determined as surfactant HLB value of 13, TP content of 5 wt% in water, surfactant content of 2 times of TP, and sonication time of 1.5 min. A scaled-up production of the optimal nanoemulsion was also achieved using a microfluidizer and the effect of pressure and number of passes on emulsion properties was determined. The stability of the nanoemulsions was evaluated and the DTP nanoemulsion was determined to be the most stable. The nanoemulsions with desirable properties were then selected and evaluated for their insecticidal activity against the legume pest, Callosobruchus maculatus, with nanoemulsion of neem oil made under the same conditions as a control. Both TP and DTP nanoemulsions were found to exhibit excellent insecticidal activity, and the latter had the highest efficacy against the Callosobruchus maculatus.

The morphogenesis of hair follicle structure is accompanied by the differentiation of skin tissue. Mammalian coats are produced by hair follicles. The formation of hair follicles requires signal transmission between the epidermis and dermis. However, knowledge of the transcriptional regulatory mechanism is still lacking. We used single-cell RNA sequencing to obtain 26,573 single cells from the scapular skin of yaks at hair follicle telogen and anagen stages. With the help of known reference marker genes, 11 main cell types were identified. In addition, we further analyzed the DP cell and dermal fibroblast lineages, drew a single-cell map of the DP cell and dermal fibroblast lineages, and elaborated the key genes, signals, and functions involved in cell fate decision making. The results of this study provide a very valuable resource for the analysis of the heterogeneity of DP cells and dermal fibroblasts in the skin and provide a powerful theoretical reference for further exploring the diversity of hair follicle cell types and hair follicle morphogenesis.

The detection of Parkinson’s disease (PD) in its early stages is of great importance for its treatment and management, but consensus is lacking on what information is necessary and what models should be used to best predict PD risk. In our study, we first grouped PD-associated factors based on their cost and accessibility, and then gradually incorporated them into risk predictions, which were built using eight commonly used machine learning models to allow for comprehensive assessment. Finally, the Shapley Additive Explanations (SHAP) method was used to investigate the contributions of each factor. We found that models built with demographic variables, hospital admission examinations, clinical assessment, and polygenic risk score achieved the best prediction performance, and the inclusion of invasive biomarkers could not further enhance its accuracy. Among the eight machine learning models considered, penalized logistic regression and XGBoost were the most accurate algorithms for assessing PD risk, with penalized logistic regression achieving an area under the curve of 0.94 and a Brier score of 0.08. Olfactory function and polygenic risk scores were the most important predictors for PD risk. Our research has offered a practical framework for PD risk assessment, where necessary information and efficient machine learning tools were highlighted.

To address the challenges of balancing accuracy and speed, as well as the parameters and FLOPs in current insulator defect detection, we propose an enhanced insulator defect detection algorithm, ML-YOLOv5, based on the YOLOv5 network. The backbone module incorporates depthwise separable convolution, and the feature fusion C3 module is replaced with the improved C2f_DG module. Furthermore, we enhance the feature pyramid network (MFPN) and employ knowledge distillation using YOLOv5m as the teacher model. Experimental results demonstrate that this approach achieved a 46.9% reduction in parameter count and a 43.0% reduction in FLOPs, while maintaining an FPS of 63.6. It exhibited good accuracy and detection speed on both the CPLID and IDID datasets, making it suitable for real-time inspection of high-altitude insulator defects.

Emerging research findings suggest that airborne particulate matter might be a risk factor for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). However, the concentration–response relationships and the susceptible time windows for different types of particulate matter may vary. In this retrospective analysis, we employ a novel robust approach to assess the crucial time windows regarding the prevalence of GDM and to distinguish the susceptibility of three GDM subtypes to air pollution exposure. This study included 16,303 pregnant women who received routine antenatal care in 2018–2021 at the Maternal and Child Health Hospital in Chongqing, China. In total, 2482 women (15.2%) were diagnosed with GDM. We assessed the individual daily average exposure to air pollution, including PM2.5, PM10, O3, NO2, SO2, and CO based on the volunteers’ addresses. We used high-accuracy gridded air pollution data generated by machine learning models to assess particulate matter per maternal exposure levels. We further analyzed the association of pre-pregnancy, early, and mid-pregnancy exposure to environmental pollutants using a generalized additive model (GAM) and distributed lag nonlinear models (DLNMs) to analyze the association between exposure at specific gestational weeks and the risk of GDM. We observed that, during the first trimester, per IQR increases for PM10 and PM2.5 exposure were associated with increased GDM risk (PM10: OR = 1.19, 95%CI: 1.07~1.33; PM2.5: OR = 1.32, 95%CI: 1.15~1.50) and isolated post-load hyperglycemia (GDM-IPH) risk (PM10: OR = 1.23, 95%CI: 1.09~1.39; PM2.5: OR = 1.38, 95%CI: 1.18~1.61). Second-trimester O3 exposure was positively correlated with the associated risk of GDM, while pre-pregnancy and first-trimester exposure was negatively associated with the risk of GDM-IPH. Exposure to SO2 in the second trimester was negatively associated with the risk of GDM-IPH. However, there were no observed associations between NO2 and CO exposure and the risk of GDM and its subgroups. Our results suggest that maternal exposure to particulate matter during early pregnancy and exposure to O3 in the second trimester might increase the risk of GDM, and GDM-IPH is the susceptible GDM subtype to airborne particulate matter exposure.

Due to its excellent physical properties, γ-TiAl alloy has been widely used in thin-walled components of aerospace engines. However, issues such as low thermal conductivity, poor machinability, and high cutting temperatures often result in difficulties in ensuring the geometric accuracy and surface integrity of the parts. This paper focuses on the study of the thermal deformation behavior of γ-TiAl alloy within a range of higher temperatures and strain rates. Firstly, by conducting quasi-static tests and Hopkinson bar tests on γ-TiAl alloy, the true stress–strain curves of γ-TiAl alloy are obtained within a temperature range of 20~500 °C and a strain rate range of 3000~11,000/s. Based on the Johnson–Cook model, the true stress–strain curves are fitted and analyzed with consideration of the coupling effect of strain rate, temperature, and strain. The strain rate hardening coefficient C and thermal softening exponent m are polynomialized, improving the Johnson–Cook constitutive model of γ-TiAl alloy. The improved model shows significant improvements in the correlation coefficient and absolute errors between the predicted values and experimental values, providing a better reflection of the thermal deformation behavior of γ-TiAl alloy within a range of higher temperatures and strain rates.

The microstructure evolution of the twin of TB6 (Ti-10V-2Fe-3Al) under planar wave detonation was studied. The initial microstructure of the alloy consists of an α and β phase. It is found that twin deformation is operated in only the α phase due to the limited slip system in this phase. α grains are mainly rotated from {101¯0} to {0002} during the deformation due to the {101¯2}<101¯1¯> twin. Twin variant selection is found in this study, and the orientation of all {101¯2} twins is oriented at {0002} in different α grains with different deformation degrees. The twin variant selection is well explained based on the strain relaxation along the loading axis and the Schmid factor for twinning shear.

Safely opening university campuses has been a major challenge during the COVID-19 pandemic. Here, the authors describe a program of public health measures employed at a university in the United States which, combined with other non-pharmaceutical interventions, allowed the university to stay open in fall 2020 with limited evidence of transmission.

Abstract Objective We aim to propose a deep learning-based method of automated segmentation of eight brain anatomical regions in head computed tomography (CT) images obtained during positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) scans. The brain regions include basal ganglia, cerebellum, hemisphere, and hippocampus, all split into left and right. Materials and methods We enrolled patients who underwent both PET/CT imaging (with an extra head CT scan) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The segmentation of eight brain regions in CT was achieved by using convolutional neural networks (CNNs): DenseVNet and 3D U-Net. The same segmentation task in MRI was performed by using BrainSuite13, which was a public atlas label method. The mean Dice scores were used to assess the performance of the CNNs. Then, the agreement and correlation of the volumes of the eight segmented brain regions between CT and MRI methods were analyzed. Results 18 patients were enrolled. Four of the eight brain regions obtained high mean Dice scores (> 0.90): left (0.978) and right (0.912) basal ganglia and left (0.945) and right (0.960) hemisphere. Regarding the agreement and correlation of the brain region volumes between two methods, moderate agreements were observed on the left (ICC: 0.618, 95% CI 0.242, 0.835) and right (ICC: 0.654, 95% CI 0.298, 0.853) hemisphere. Poor agreements were observed on the other regions. A moderate correlation was observed on the right hemisphere (Spearman’s rho 0.68, p = 0.0019). Lower correlations were observed on the other regions. Conclusions The proposed deep learning-based method performed automated segmentation of eight brain anatomical regions on head CT imaging in PET/CT. Some regions obtained high mean Dice scores and the agreement and correlation results of the segmented region volumes between two methods were moderate to poor.

BackgroundTricresyl phosphate (TCP) is mainly used as a flame retardant. Studies have confirmed that it has cytotoxicity and neurotoxicity, but its reproductive toxicity is not clear.ObjectiveTo investigate the reproductive toxicity and potential mechanism of TCP subacute exposure on Caenorhabditis elegans.MethodsCaenorhabditis elegans were exposed to solvent control and 0.1, 1, 10, 100, and 1000 μg·L−1 TCP respectively for 72 h. Brood size and number of fertilized eggs in the uterus were detected to evaluate reproductive ability. The number of total germline cells and the relative area of gonad arm were measured to evaluate the development of gonads. The body length and body width of Caenorhabditis elegans were detected to evaluate growth and development. The activities of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) in Caenorhabditis elegans, and the mitochondrial active oxygen metabolism genes (mev-1 and gas-1) of N2 nematodes were detected by real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) to evaluate oxidative stress. WS1433 transgenic nematodes and wild-type nematodes N2 were exposed to solvent control or TCP (0.1, 1, 10, 100, and 1000 μg·L−1) respectively. DNA damage in germ cells of WS1433 transgenic nematodes was detected, the relative expressions of DNA damage-related genes (hus-1, clk-2, cep-1, and egl-1) in N2 nematodes were detected by qRT-PCR to evaluate the effect of TCP exposure on genetic damage.ResultsCompared with the solvent control group (217.00 ± 12.20), the brood size of N2 nematodes in the 100 μg·L−1 and 1000 μg·L−1 TCP groups decreased (170.80 ± 11.51, 169.60 ± 10.52, P < 0.05). Compared with the solvent control group (18.43 ± 1.69), the number of fertilized eggs of N2 nematodes in the 100 μg·L−1 and 1000 μg·L−1 TCP groups decreased (13.47 ± 0.81, 11.95 ± 0.90, P < 0.05). Compared with the solvent control group (312.46 ± 77.4), the number of total germline cells of N2 nematodes in the 100 μg·L−1 and 1000 μg·L−1 TCP groups decreased (281.80 ± 12.98, 273.50 ± 8.53, P < 0.05). Abstract Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is one of the main causes of death in the world, and the incidence of AMI is increasing in the young population. Drug-coated balloon (DCB) has become an effective concept for the treatment of in-stent restenosis, small vessel disease, bifurcation lesions, high blood risk conditions, and even de novo large vessel disease. To ensure whether DCB can play an alternative role in AMI, we conducted a comprehensive meta‐analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to evaluate the efficacy and safety of DCB in the treatment of AMI. Electronic databases were searched for RCTs that compared DCB with stent for AMI. The primary outcome was major adverse cardiac events (MACEs), the secondary outcome was late lumen loss (LLL). RevMan 5.3 software and RStudio software were used for data analysis. Five RCTs involving 528 patients with 6–12 months of follow-up were included. There was no significant difference in the incidence of MACEs between DCB group and stent group (RR, 0.85; 95% CI 0.42 to 1.74; P = 0.66). Abstract We proposed and demonstrated a flexible, endoscopic, and minimally invasive coherent anti-Raman Stokes scattering (CARS) measurement method for single-cell application, employing a tapered optical fiber probe. A few-mode fiber (FMF), whose generated four-wave mixing band is out of CARS signals, was selected to fabricate tapered optical fiber probes, deliver CARS excitation pulses, and collect CARS signals. The adiabatic tapered fiber probe with a diameter of 11.61 μm can focus CARS excitation lights without mismatch at the focal point. The measurements for proof-of-concept were made with methanol, ethanol, cyclohexane, and acetone injected into simulated cells. The experimental results show that the tapered optical fiber probe can detect carbon-hydrogen (C–H) bond-rich substances and their concentration. To our best knowledge, this optical fiber probe provides the minimum size among probes for detecting CARS signals. These results pave the way for minimally invasive live-cell detection in the future.

Biological invasions and soil salinization have become increasingly severe environmental problems under global change due to sea-level rise and poor soil management. Invasive species can often outcompete native species, but few studies focus on whether invasive alien species are always superior competitors under increasing stressors. We grew an invasive grass species, Oenothera biennis L., and three native grass species (Artemisia argyi Lévl. et Vant., Chenopodium album L., and Inula japonica Thunb.) as a monoculture (two seedlings of each species) or mixture (one seedling of O. biennis and one native species seedling) under three levels of salt treatments (0, 1, and 2 g/kg NaCl) in a greenhouse. We found that invasive O. biennis exhibited greater performance over native C. album and I. japonica, but lower performance compared to A. argyi, regardless of the soil salinity. However, salinity did not significantly affect the relative dominance of O. biennis. Interspecific competition enhanced the growth of O. biennis and inhibited the growth of I. japonica. Although O. biennis seedlings always had growth dominance over C. album seedlings, C. album was not affected by O. biennis at any salt level. At high salt levels, O. biennis inhibited the growth of A. argyi, while A. argyi did not affect the growth of O. biennis. Salt alleviated the competitive effect of O. biennis on I. japonica but did not mitigate the competition between O. biennis and the other two native species. Therefore, our study provides evidence for a better understanding of the invasive mechanisms of alien species under various salinity conditions.

China is the largest kiwifruit producer in the world, accounting for more than half of the total. However, in terms of yield per unit area, China is much lower than the global average and lags behind that of other countries. Yield improvement is of critical importance for the current kiwifruit industry in China. In this study, an improved overhead pergolas trellis (OPT) system, namely, the umbrella-shaped trellis (UST) system, was developed for Donghong kiwifruit, which is now the second most popular and widely cultivated red-fleshed kiwifruit in China. Surprisingly, the estimated yield on the UST system was more than two times higher than that with a traditional OPT, while the external fruit quality was maintained and the internal fruit quality was improved. One of the mechanisms contributing to the yield improvement was the significant promotion of the vegetative growth of canes at 6 ~ 10 mm in diameter by the UST system. The upper canopy of the UST treatment served as a natural shading condition for the lower fruiting canopy and thus had positive effects on the accumulation of chlorophylls and total carotenoids in the fruiting canopy. The most productive zones on the fruiting canes (6 ~ 10 mm in diameter) contained significantly higher (P < 0.05) levels of zeatin riboside (ZR) and auxin (IAA) and ratios of ZR/gibberellin (GA), ZR/abscisic acid (ABA), and ABA/GA. A relatively high carbon/nitrogen ratio may promote the flower bud differentiation process of Donghong kiwifruit. The outcomes of this study provide a scientific basis for manifold increase in production of kiwifruit and contribute to the sustainability of the kiwifruit industry.

Revealing the space-time evolution characteristics of overlying strata deformation and failure is the key for safe and efficient mining of steeply dipping coal seam. In this paper, based on the physical similarity simulation experiment and field measurement method, the non-uniform filling characteristics of gangue in gob and the roof migration law are comprehensively determined, the evolution characteristics and distribution patterns of the abutment pressure in the upper and lower sections, the distribution characteristics of the working resistance of the support, and the regional strata behavior law in the mining process are analyzed, and the technical measures for the stability control of the support in steeply dipping coal seam are put forward. Results shown: With the advancing distance increases, the accumulation range of gangue increases, and the inverted triangle airspace begins to appear repeatedly in the gob behind the support. In the deep gob, the angle between the gangue pile and the horizontal plane decreases continuously from the lower part to the upper part along the inclined direction. Horizontal displacement, vertical displacement and combined displacement of roof show an evolutionary trend of ‘increase – stability’. The peak displacement position moves from the upper part to the middle part of the working face, which is located at the hinge point between the broken block and the failure envelope surface. The evolution of abutment pressure of headgate and tailgate T-junction shows a trend of ‘increase – stability’. The peak and concentration coefficient at headgate T-junction are greater than tailgate T-junction. The load imbalance characteristics of the support in working face are obvious, and the basic characteristics along the inclined direction are the largest in the middle area, the second in the upper and the smallest in the lower area. The initial force and working resistance of support should be improved, and the position of the support should be adjusted in time in practical engineering. The results provide reference and guidance for practical production.

Central nervous system (CNS) function recovery following stroke remains a major challenge because neural regeneration is difficult to achieve. In this study, rigid-flexible composite scaffolds consisting of nanofibers from electrospun scaffolds and self-adapting and injectable hydrogel were loaded with bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs), and the effects of these loaded BMSCs on ischemic insult were investigated. In vitro analysis of the viability, migration, neurite growth, angiogenic capacity, and paracrine effects of BMSCs indicated that BMSCs loaded in composite scaffolds had a better therapeutic effect than those BMSCs in saline. Furthermore, in vivo, BMSCs loaded in composite scaffolds significantly reduced the extent of brain edema and the infarct volume, alleviated neurological deficits, markedly attenuated microglial and astrocyte overactivation, and increased neuronal proliferation and vascular growth. Bioinformatics analysis revealed that BMSCs loaded in composite scaffolds could decrease the level of exosomal miR-206–3p and consequently increase the activity of the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. In conclusion, BMSCs loaded in novel composite scaffolds exert obvious neuroprotective effects, attenuating ischemic injury by enhancing angiogenesis and neural regeneration in the brain after ischemic stroke, and these results provide a promising approach for treating CNS diseases in the clinic via cell transplantation.

BackgroundDual-task walking is a good paradigm to measure the walking ability of stroke patients in daily life. It allows for a better observation of brain activation under dual-task walking to assess the impact of the different tasks on the patient when combining with functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS). This review aims to summarize the cortical change of the prefrontal cortex (PFC) detected in single-task and dual-task walking in stroke patients.MethodsSix databases (Medline, Embase, PubMed, Web of Science, CINAHL, and Cochrane Library) were systematically searched for relevant studies, from inception to August 2022. Studies that measured the brain activation of single-task and dual-task walking in stroke patients were included. The main outcome of the study was PFC activity measured using fNIRS. In addition, a subgroup analysis was also performed for study characteristics based on HbO to analyze the different effects of disease duration and the type of dual task.ResultsTen articles were included in the final review, and nine articles were included in the quantitative meta-analysis. The primary analysis showed more significant PFC activation in stroke patients performing dual-task walking than single-task walking (SMD = 0.340, P = 0.02, I2 = 7.853%, 95% CI = 0.054–0.626). The secondary analysis showed a significant difference in PFC activation when performing dual-task walking and single-task walking in chronic patients (SMD = 0.369, P = 0.038, I2 = 13.692%, 95% CI = 0.020–0.717), but not in subacute patients (SMD = 0.203, P = 0.419, I2 = 0%, 95% CI = −0.289–0.696). In addition, performing walking combining serial subtraction (SMD = 0.516, P < 0.001, I2 = 0%, 95% CI = 0.239–0.794), obstacle crossing (SMD = 0.564, P = 0.002, I2 = 0%, 95% CI = 0.205–0.903), or a verbal task (SMD = 0.654, P = 0.009, I2 = 0%, 95% CI = 0.164–1.137) had more PFC activation than single-task walking, while performing the n-back task did not show significant differentiation (SMD = 0.203, P = 0.419, I2 = 0%, 95% CI = −0.289–0.696).ConclusionsDifferent dual-task paradigms produce different levels of dual-task interference in stroke patients with different disease durations, and it is important to choose the matching dual-task type in relation to the walking ability and cognitive ability of the patient, in order to better improve the assessment and training effects.Systematic review registrationhttps://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/, identifier: CRD42022356699.

Abiotic stresses such as salinity and low temperature have serious impact on peanut growth and yield. The present work investigated the function of a MYB-related transcription factor gene AhMYB30 obtained from peanut under salt and low temperature stresses by transgenic methods. The results indicated that the overexpression of AhMYB30 in Arabidopsis could enhance the resistance of transgenic plants to freezing and salt stresses. The expression of stress-response genes RD29A (Response-to-Dehydration 29A), COR15A (Cold-Regulated 15A), KIN1 (Kinesin 1) and ABI2 (Abscisic acid Insensitive 2) increased in transgenic plants compared with in wild-type. Subcellular localization and transcriptional autoactivation validation demonstrated that AhMYB30 has essential features of transcription factors. Therefore, AhMYB30 may increase salt and freezing stress tolerance as the transcription factor (TF) in Arabidopsis through both DREB/CBF and ABA-signaling pathways. Our results lay the theoretical foundation for exploring stress resistance mechanisms of peanut and offering novel genetic resources for molecular breeding.

Many studies have reported obvious seasonal differences in the intestinal flora of rats, and this stable distribution of the seasonal flora helps in maintaining the normal physiological function of the host. However, the mechanism underlying these seasonal differences in intestinal flora remains unclear. To explore the correlation among seasonal factors and intestinal water metabolism and intestinal flora, 20 Sprague Dawley (SD) rats were divided into spring, summer, autumn, and winter groups. The environment for the four seasons was simulated using the Balanced Temperature and Humidity Control system. The intestinal water metabolism was evaluated by determining the intestinal transmission function, fecal water content, water content of colonic tissue, and the colonic expression levels of AQP3, AQP4, and AQP8. The composition and relative abundance of intestinal microflora in rats in each season were assessed through 16S rDNA amplifier sequencing, and the relationship between the dominant flora and intestinal water metabolism in each season was analyzed using Spearman correlation analysis. The high temperature and humidity season could lead to an increase in intestinal water metabolism and intestinal water content in rats, whereas the low temperature and humidity season could lead to a decrease, which was closely related to the change in microflora. To explore the molecular mechanism of seasonal changes in intestinal water metabolism, the concentration of colonic 5-HT, VIP, cAMP, and PKA associated with intestinal water metabolism in rats were also examined. Seasonal changes could affect the concentration of colonic 5-HT and VIP in rats, and then regulate AQPs through cAMP/PKA pathway to affect the intestinal water metabolism. These results suggest that seasonal factors affect the level of intestinal water metabolism in rats and result in seasonal differences in intestinal flora.

BackgroundHypertension is a major public health concern that strongly influences the quality of life of people worldwide. Keshan disease (KD) is an endemic cardiomyopathy related to low selenium, threatening residents in rural areas of 16 provinces in China. Furthermore, the prevalence of hypertension in the KD-endemic areas has been increasing annually. However, hypertension research associated with KD has only focused on endemic regions, and no studies have compared hypertension prevalence between endemic and non-endemic areas. Therefore, this study investigated the prevalence of hypertension to provide a basis for preventing and controlling hypertension in the KD-endemic areas, even in rural areas.MethodsWe extracted blood pressure information from cardiomyopathy investigation data from a cross-sectional study of the KD-endemic and non-endemic areas. The hypertension prevalence between the two groups was compared using the Chi-square test or Fisher s exact test. Additionally, Pearson’s correlation coefficient was employed to evaluate the relationship between the per capita gross domestic product (GDP) and hypertension prevalence.ResultsThere was a statistically significant increase of hypertension prevalence in the KD-endemic areas (22.79%, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 22.30–23.27%) over the non-endemic areas (21.55%, 95% CI: 21.09–22.02%). In the KD-endemic areas, more men had hypertension than women (23.90% vs. 21.65%, P < 0.001). Furthermore, the hypertension prevalence was higher in the north than in the south in the KD-endemic areas (27.52% vs. 18.76%, P < 0.001), non-endemic areas (24.86% vs. 18.66%, P < 0.001), and overall (26.17% vs. 18.68%, P < 0.001). Finally, the prevalence of hypertension positively correlated with per capita GDP at province level.ConclusionsThe increasing hypertension prevalence is a public health problem in the KD-endemic areas. Healthy diets, such as high consumption of vegetables and seafoods, and foods that are rich in selenium, might help prevent and control hypertension in the KD-endemic areas and other rural areas in China.

Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is an essential pathological subtype of non-small cell lung cancer and offers a severe problem for worldwide public health. There is mounting proof that angiogenesis is a crucial player in LUAD progression. Consequently, the purpose of this research was to construct a novel LUAD risk assessment model based on genetic markers related to angiogenesis. We accessed The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) databases for LUAD mRNA sequencing data and clinical information. Based on machine algorithms and bioinformatics, angiogenic gene-related risk scores (RS) were calculated. Patients in the high-risk category had a worse prognosis (p < 0.001) in the discovery TCGA cohort, and the results were confirmed by these three cohorts (validation TCGA cohort, total TCGA cohort, and GSE68465 cohort). Moreover, risk scores for genes involved in angiogenesis were independent risk factors for lung cancer in all four cohorts. The low-risk group was associated with better immune status and lower tumor mutational load. In addition, the somatic mutation study revealed that the low-risk group had a lower mutation frequency than the high-risk group. According to an analysis of tumor stem cell infiltration, HLA expression, and TIDE scores, the low-risk group had higher TIDE scores and HLA expression levels than the high-risk group, and the amount of tumor stem cell infiltration correlated with the risk score. In addition, high-risk groups may benefit from immune checkpoint inhibitors and targeted therapies. In conclusion, we developed an angiogenesis-related gene risk model to predict the prognosis of LUAD patients, which may aid in the classification of patients with LUAD and select medications for LUAD patients.

Chronic inflammation is associated with lung tumorigenesis, in which NF-κB–mediated epigenetic regulation plays a critical role. Lung tumor suppressor G protein–coupled receptor, family C, member 5A (GPRC5A), is repressed in most non–small cell lung cancer (NSCLC); however, the mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we show that NF-κB acts as a transcriptional repressor in suppression of GPRC5A. NF-κB induced GPRC5A repression both in vitro and in vivo. Intriguingly, transactivation of NF-κB downstream targets was not required, but the transactivation domain of RelA/p65 was required for GPRC5A repression. NF-κB did not bind to any potential cis-element in the GPRC5A promoter. Instead, p65 was complexed with retinoic acid receptor α/β (RARα/β) and recruited to the RA response element site at the GPRC5A promoter, resulting in disrupted RNA polymerase II complexing and suppressed transcription. Notably, phosphorylation on serine 276 of p65 was required for interaction with RARα/β and repression of GPRC5A. Moreover, NF-κB–mediated epigenetic repression was through suppression of acetylated histone H3K9 (H3K9ac), but not DNA methylation of the CpG islands, at the GPRC5A promoter. Consistently, a histone deacetylase inhibitor, but not DNA methylation inhibitor, restored GPRC5A expression in NSCLC cells. Thus, NF-κB induces transcriptional repression of GPRC5A via a complex with RARα/β and mediates epigenetic repression via suppression of H3K9ac.

The rural infrastructures require inclusiveness in the whole lifecycle (WLC) for the benefits of the society. The theory of inclusive growth has been widely studied since its introduction in the infrastructure system research. However, the majority of the related studies has focused on macro level measurements and no systematic research has been carried out on the microlevel for inclusiveness formation and impact path discovery so that detailed recommendations regarding the process can be formulated. The WLC of infrastructure is a dynamic process, reflected in different stages with various activities and multiple factor groups that connect and influence each other. To address and analyze this dynamic and interdependent process from a micro perspective, this study applies the logical framework method in constructing nine impact paths of rural infrastructure inclusiveness for the WLC, which revealed the influence mechanism of rural infrastructure inclusiveness at the microlevel. According to the results, “project quality” has the most significant influence on the rural infrastructure inclusiveness.

BackgroundSleep disorders are a global challenge, affecting a quarter of the global population. Mobile health (mHealth) sleep apps are a potential solution, but 25% of users stop using them after a single use. User satisfaction had a significant impact on continued use intention. ObjectiveThis China-US comparison study aimed to mine the topics discussed in user-generated reviews of mHealth sleep apps, assess the effects of the topics on user satisfaction and dissatisfaction with these apps, and provide suggestions for improving users’ intentions to continue using mHealth sleep apps. MethodsAn unsupervised clustering technique was used to identify the topics discussed in user reviews of mHealth sleep apps. On the basis of the two-factor theory, the Tobit model was used to explore the effect of each topic on user satisfaction and dissatisfaction, and differences in the effects were analyzed using the Wald test. ResultsA total of 488,071 user reviews of 10 mainstream sleep apps were collected, including 267,589 (54.8%) American user reviews and 220,482 (45.2%) Chinese user reviews. The user satisfaction rates of sleep apps were poor (China: 56.58% vs the United States: 45.87%). We identified 14 topics in the user-generated reviews for each country. In the Chinese data, 13 topics had a significant effect on the positive deviation (PD) and negative deviation (ND) of user satisfaction. The 2 variables (PD and ND) were defined by the difference between the user rating and the overall rating of the app in the app store. Among these topics, the app’s sound recording function (β=1.026; P=.004) had the largest positive effect on the PD of user satisfaction, and the topic with the largest positive effect on the ND of user satisfaction was the sleep improvement effect of the app (β=1.185; P

Extreme weather events have cost lives and financial losses across the United States. Moreover, they are expected to increase in frequency, and this will exacerbate their impact on vulnerable sectors such as agriculture. But how farmers could adapt to extreme weather events by adopting different conservation practices has received slight attention in the literature. This study examines how farmers' perceptions of drought and flooding influence their decisions to implement conservation practices in their conventional crop fields. Out of the 350 farmer responses we received, fewer than half indicated a likelihood to adopt no-tillage/reduced tillage (43%), cover crops (40%), crop diversification (37%), and integrated crop-livestock grazing (29%). Using this data and a multivariate probit modeling framework, we show that farmers’ decisions can be partly explained by their perception of drought but not by their perception of flooding. Specifically, the perceived number of drought years significantly increases the likelihood of adopting no-tillage/reduced tillage and diversified cropping in the future. However, the number of drought years is not significantly associated with the use of cover crops and integrated crop-livestock grazing. These results suggest that the effects of extreme weather events on adoption of conservation practices as adaptive measures vary across different practices. Therefore, adaptation policies that make use of conservation practices must be tailored to farmers’ needs and priorities to be effective.

The reservoir of Chang 7 Member of Yanchang Formation in the Ordos Basin is rich in tight oil resources, with well-developed micro-nanopore throats, strong heterogeneity, and complex fluid distribution characteristics. In this paper, a combination of nuclear magnetic resonance and centrifugation experiments is carried out to qualitatively and quantitatively analyze and evaluate the distribution characteristics of the movable fluid in Chang 7 reservoirs in Baibao Block. With different centrifugal forces, the NMR T2 spectrum characteristics of saturated water state and different centrifugal force state can be obtained, and the movable fluid distribution characteristics under the control of different centrifugal forces and different pore throat intervals can be obtained. The research results demonstrate that the NMR T2 spectrum of the Chang 7 tight oil reservoir in the study area presents a double-peak or triple-peak shape. With the increase of centrifugal force, the water saturation value of the corresponding sample gradually decreases. The overall movable fluid saturation ranged from 19.07% to 32.52%, with an average of 26.23% and a low degree of movability. The submicron (0.1~1 μm) and nanoscale (0.075~0.1 μm) pore throats were the main pore throat intervals controlling the movable fluid saturation of the studied samples, accounting for an average of 18.31% and 5.57%, respectively, and micron-scale pore throats (r>1 μm) accounted for an average of 2.35% of the movable fluid distribution.

BackgroundUp to now, the physiology, pathology, and recovery of beta-cells have been intensively studied and made great progress, and these are of major significance for the treatment of related diseases. Nevertheless, a comprehensive and objective report on the status of beta-cell research is lacking. Therefore, this study aims to conduct a bibliometric analysis to quantify and identify the current status and trending issues in beta-cell research.MethodsThe articles and reviews related to beta-cell were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection on August 31, 2022. Two scientometric software (CiteSpace 6.1.R3 and VOSviewer 1.6.18) were used to perform bibliometric and knowledge-map analysis.ResultsA total of 4098 papers were published in 810 academic journals in 2938 institutions from 83 countries/regions. The number of beta-cell-related publications was increasing steadily. The United States was the most productive country, while Universite libre de Bruxelles, University of Toronto and University of Geneva were the most active institutions. Diabetes published the most beta-cell studies and received the largest number of co-citations. Decio I Eizirik published the most papers and had the most co-citations. Twelve references on reviews and mechanisms were regarded as the knowledge base. Four major aspects of beta-cell research included the pathological mechanism of beta-cell failure, the recovery of beta cells, the risk factor related to beta cells, and the physiology of beta cells. Endoplasmic reticulum stress and oxidative stress have been core elements throughout the research in this field. In addition, beta-cell dedifferentiation, inflammation, autophagy, miRNA, and lncRNA are hot topics nowadays. Additionally, stem cell replacement therapies might be the alternative way to reverse beta-cell failure. Restoring beta-cell mass and function will remain a research goal in the future.ConclusionThis study provided a comprehensive overview of beta-cell research through bibliometric and visual methods. The information would provide helpful references for scholars focusing on beta cells.

BackgroundDepressive disorders have become an increasingly significant public health issue. This study is intended to show the trend of the incidence of depressive disorders in China, the United States, India and the world from 1990 to 2019, as well as the impact of age, period and cohort on it.MethodsExtracting incidence data from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019, we determined trends in the age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR) using Joinpoint regression. An age-period-cohort analysis was implemented to describe the effects of age, period, and cohort, as well as the long-term tendencies.ResultsFrom 1990 to 2019, the ASIR of depressive disorders in China was lower than that in the United States; India is lower than the United States in the first 5 years, showing a downward trend. The incidence in India and the United States is higher than the global average. The ASIR of women in the three countries is higher than that of men. In China, the elderly, early period and people born around 1954 have a higher risk of depressive disorders. In the United States, young people born around 1999 have a higher risk of depressive disorders. India is similar to China.ConclusionFrom 1990 to 2019, the age effect of China as a whole increased, and the period became stable, and the cohort effect declined. The overall age and period effects of the United States reduced, while the cohort effect increased. The age effect in India increased, while the period and cohort effects decreased. Depressive disorders are becoming ever more serious worldwide, and we’d better take measures to reduce its incidence according to the cohort effect of each age group.

Metasurface antennas have been proposed for computational imaging (CI) systems, which can reconstruct images without using mechanical scanning or large antenna arrays. In a CI system based on metasurface antennas, a variety of different radiation fields, which can be applied to sample the objects, are generated by exciting different frequency points in broadband. According to the compressed sensing theory, the imaging performance of the system is mainly limited by frequency-diversity radiation modes. In general, it is difficult to achieve rich radiation modes; therefore, a special design of metasurface aperture is required. In this paper, we propose a frequency-diversity MIMO metasurface antenna that consists of 2 × 2 sub-apertures with randomly distributed surface impedance. By employing the aperture rotation technique (ART) which rotates the MIMO metasurface antenna around the panel axis, the pseudo-randomness of the radiation fields is utilized. The diversity of the radiation field is improved on the premise of ensuring the relatively low complexity of the system. The ART significantly improves the measurement richness at the cost of increasing the measurement time. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated through simulations and experiments, suggesting that the proposed 2 × 2 MIMO metasurface antenna and the ART are effective to reconstruct high-quality images.
