To achieve cost-effective and efficient removal of nitrogen and phosphorus, a comparative analysis was conducted on the efficacy of pyrite- and sulfur-coupled autotrophic denitrification (PSAD), sulfur autotrophic denitrification (SAD), and heterotrophic denitrification (HD) in terms of nutrient elimination and the potential reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The addition of sodium acetate made the NO3−-N removal rate of HD higher than that of PSAD and SAD processes, but the synergistic effect of sulfur and pyrite made the average removal efficiency of phosphates (PO43−-P) in PSAD system (92%) significantly higher than that of SAD (65%) and HD (0). PO43−-P was mainly removed in the form of Fe3(PO4)2·8H2O. PSAD system produces a lower concentration of N2O (62.92 ± 4.74 mg/m3), and is prone to anaerobic oxidation of methane. CH4 concentration decreased from 31.32 mg/m3 to 22.32 ± 1.34 mg/m3. Thiobacillus can use pyrite or sulfur as electron donor to complete the autotrophic denitrification process and evolve into the dominant bacterium in PSAD. Acinetobacter is good at using acetic acid as electron donor to complete the denitrification process. STUDY QUESTION Does vitrification cryopreservation of embryos for more than 5 years affect the pregnancy outcomes after frozen embryo transfer (FET)? SUMMARY ANSWER Vitrification cryopreservation of good-quality blastocysts for more than 5 years is associated with a decrease in the implantation rate (IR) and live birth rate (LBR). WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY Previous studies have predominantly focused on embryos cryopreserved for relatively short durations (less than 5 years), yet the impact of extended cryopreservation duration on pregnancy outcomes remains a controversial issue. There is a relative scarcity of data regarding the efficacy and safety of storing embryos for 5 years or longer. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION This retrospective study involved 36 665 eligible vitrified-thawed embryo transfer cycles from 1 January 2016 to 31 December 2022, at a single fertility center in China. PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS Patients were divided into three groups according to embryo storage time: Group 1 consisted of 31 565 cycles, with storage time of 0–2 years; Group 2 consisted of 4458 cycles, with a storage time of 2–5 years; and Group 3 included 642 cycles, with storage time exceeding 5 years. The main outcome measures were IR and LBR. Secondary outcome variables included rates of biochemical pregnancy, multiple pregnancy, ectopic pregnancy, and miscarriage, as well as neonatal outcomes. Reproductive outcomes were analyzed as binary variables. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to explore the effect of preservation time on pregnancy outcomes after correcting for confounding factors. In addition, we also assessed neonatal outcomes, such as large for gestational age (LGA) and small for gestational age (SGA). MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE IRs in the three groups (0–2, 2–5, and >5 years) were 37.37%, 39.03%, and 35.78%, respectively (P  = 0.017), and LBRs in the three groups were 37.29%, 39.09%, and 34.91%, respectively (P  = 0.028). After adjustment for potential confounding factors, compared with the 0–2 years storage group, prolonged embryo vitrification preservation time (2–5 years or >5 years) did not affect secondary outcomes such as rates of biochemical pregnancy, multiple pregnancy, ectopic pregnancy, and miscarriage (P  > 0.05). But cryopreservation of embryos for more than 5 years reduced the IR (adjusted odds ratio (aOR) 0.82, 95% CI 0.69–0.97, P  = 0.020) and LBR (aOR 0.76, 95% CI 0.64–0.91, P  = 0.002). Multivariate stratified analysis also showed that prolonging the cryopreservation time of blastocysts (>5 years) reduced the IR (aOR 0.78, 95% CI 0.62–0.98, P  = 0.033) and LBR (aOR 0.68, 95% CI 0.53–0.87, P  = 0.002). However, no effect on cleavage embryos was observed (P  > 0.05). We further conducted stratified analyses based on the number and quality of frozen blastocysts transferred, and the results showed that the FET results after transfers of good-quality blastocysts in the >5 years storage group were negatively affected. However, the storage time of non-good-quality blastocysts was not significantly associated with pregnancy outcomes. Regarding the neonatal outcomes (of singletons), embryo vitrification preservation time had no effect on preterm birth rates, fetal birth weight, or neonatal sex ratios. However, as the storage time increased, rates of SGA (5.60%, 4.10%, and 1.18%) decreased, while rates of LGA (5.22%, 6.75%, and 9.47%) increased (P  < 0.05). After adjusting for confounding factors, the increase in LGA and the decrease in SGA were significantly correlated with the duration of storage time. LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION This was a retrospective study using data from a single fertility center, even though the data had been adjusted, our findings still need to be validated in further studies. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS With the full implementation of the two-child policy in China, there may be more patients whose embryos have been frozen for a longer time in the future. Patients should be aware that the IR and LBR of blastocysts are negatively affected when the cryopreservation time is longer than 5 years. Couples may therefore consider shortening the time until FET treatment. In this study, a MOF-199/Ag@Au SERS sensing structure was successfully synthesized by combining metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) with surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) technology for the efficient detection of dopamine (DA), a biomarker for neurological diseases, in serum. Using electrochemical methods, a copper-based MOF (MOF-199) was synthesized in situ on copper substrates and further deposited with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). Subsequently, gold nanoshells were encapsulated around these silver cores by in situ chemical deposition. This preparation process is simple, controllable, and inexpensive. Furthermore, a novel Azo reaction-based DA SERS method was proposed to detect 1 pM DA, which represents an improvement in sensitivity by two orders of magnitude compared to previous unlabeled SERS detection methods and by four orders of magnitude compared to another SERS approach proposed in this work. There was an excellent linear relationship (R2 = 0.976) between the SERS signal at 1140 cm−1 and the DA concentration (0.001 M~1 pM). The results indicate that the MOF-199/Ag@Au sensor structure can successfully achieve both the qualitative and quantitative detection of DA in serum, thus providing a robust technical basis for the application of SERS technology in the field of clinical neurological disease screening. Surface enhanced fluorescence (SEF) based on noble metal nanoparticles is an effective means to achieve high sensitivity in fluorescence detection. Currently, the physical mechanism behind enhanced fluorescence is not fully understood. This paper measures the fluorescence signals of Dihydroporphyrin f methyl ether (CPD4) under both single-photon and two-photon excitation based on submicrometer silver particles with rough morphologies, achieving enhancement factors of 34 and 45 times, respectively. On this basis, by combining the radiative field characteristics produced by the silver particles, a stimulated radiation model of molecules is established to elucidate the changes in the molecular photophysical process when influenced by silver particles. Moreover, the fluorescence lifetime of the molecules was measured, showing that the presence of silver particles induces an increase in the molecular radiative decay rate, causing the fluorescence lifetime to decay from 3.8 ns to 3 ns. The results indicate that the fluorescence enhancement primarily originates from the submicrometer silver particles' enhancement effect on the excitation light. Additionally, the fluorescence signal emitted by the molecules couples with the silver particles, causing the local surface plasmon resonances generated by the silver particles to also emit light signals of the same frequency. Under the combined effect, the fluorescence of the molecules is significantly enhanced. The findings provide a theoretical foundation for understanding the fluorescence enhancement mechanism of silver particles, adjusting the enhancement effect, and developing enhanced fluorescence detection devices based on submicrometer silver particles, holding significant practical importance. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs), members of the nanomaterial family, are increasingly being used in consumer products and extensively studied for various biomedical applications. Due to their benign elemental composition, large surface area, and chemical and biological activities, CNTs demonstrate great potential in cancer therapy, including drug delivery, imaging analysis, photothermal therapy, photodynamic therapy, and radiotherapy. However, there is still a major knowledge gap when it comes to transitioning from research to clinical applications. One of the important issues is that the biological toxicity of CNTs, especially in terms of carcinogenesis, and the underlying mechanisms are not fully understood. Therefore, a thorough evaluation of toxicity and the underlying mechanisms of carcinogenesis is essential to enable the wide application of CNTs. In this review, we summarize the recent progress of CNTs as multifunctional therapeutics in cancer therapy. Furthermore, a detailed discussion is provided on the carcinogenesis and potential mechanisms of CNTs. Rationale: This study used proteomics‐based data‐independent acquisition (DIA) technology with the aim of screening for differential expression proteins in type I gastric neuroendocrine neoplasm (g‐NEN). Methods: Differential expression proteins in type I g‐NEN and peritumoral tissues were screened using DIA with liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry (DIA‐LC/MS/MS). The identified proteins were then functionally analysed using bioinformatics methods. We selected the three most highly expressed proteins, combined with patients' clinical data, for prognostic analysis. Results: Compared with peritumoral tissues, 224 proteins were up‐regulated, and 70 were down‐regulated. The most significantly enriched biological processes and pathways were vacuolar proton‐transporting V‐type ATPase complex assembly and metabolism‐related pathways. PCSK1, FBXO2, ACSL1, IRS2, and PTPRZ1 expression was markedly up‐regulated in type I g‐NENs. High IRS2 expression significantly correlated with a shorter time to recurrence. Conclusions: Our study provides a comprehensive proteomic signature based on DIA‐LC/MS/MS and highlights high IRS2 expression as a potential prognostic marker for type I gNENs. The quality of images captured digitally or transmitted over networks is distorted by noise during the process. The current methods of image restoration can be ineffective in dealing with intricate noise patterns or may be slow or imprecise. This paper fills this gap by presenting a new second-order continuous-time dynamical system for denoising of images in image restoration. The approach used in this work poses the problem as a convex quadratic program that can, thus, be solved for optimality. The existence and uniqueness of a global solution are theoretically demonstrated, and the condition for the global strong convergence of the system's trajectory is provided. The method presented in this paper is shown to be useful in a number of experiments on image restoration. As for the performance, it is higher than that of other known algorithms, with an average SNR equal to 34.78 and a Structural Similarity Index Measure (SSIM) of 0.959 for the reconstructed images. Background: Resting‐state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs‐fMRI) technology and the complex network theory can be used to elucidate the underlying mechanisms of brain diseases. The successful application of functional brain hypernetworks provides new perspectives for the diagnosis and evaluation of clinical brain diseases; however, many studies have not assessed the attribute information of hyperedges and could not retain the high‐order topology of hypergraphs. In addition, the study of multi‐scale and multi‐layered organizational properties of the human brain can provide richer and more accurate data features for classification models of depression. Purpose: This work aims to establish a more accurate classification framework for the diagnosis of major depressive disorder (MDD) using the high‐order line graph algorithm. And accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, precision, F1 score are used to validate its classification performance. Methods: Based on rs‐fMRI data from 38 MDD subjects and 28 controls, we constructed a human brain hypernetwork and introduced a line graph model, followed by the construction of a high‐order line graph model. The topological properties under each order line graph were calculated to measure the classification performance of the model. Finally, intergroup features that showed significant differences under each order line graph model were fused, and a support vector machine classifier was constructed using multi‐kernel learning. The Kolmogorov–Smirnov nonparametric permutation test was used as the feature selection method and the classification performance was measured with the leave‐one‐out cross‐validation method. Results: The high‐order line graph achieved a better classification performance compared with other traditional hypernetworks (accuracy = 92.42%, sensitivity = 92.86%, specificity = 92.11%, precision = 89.66%, F1 = 91.23%). Furthermore, the brain regions found in the present study have been previously shown to be associated with the pathology of depression. Conclusions: This work validated the classification model based on the high‐order line graph, which can better express the topological features of the hypernetwork by comprehensively considering the hyperedge information under different connection strengths, thereby significantly improving the classification accuracy of MDD. The effects of heat treatment temperature on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Cu0.3Cr2Fe2Ni3Mn2Nbx high-entropy alloys (HEAs) were studied. Results indicate that in the as-cast state, an Nb0 alloy is composed of a single FCC phase, and a Laves phase gradually forms as Nb content increases. After heat treatment at 800 °C, BCC solid solution phases rich in Cr, Fe, and Mn form in all alloys. The BCC phases in the Nb0.2 and Nb0.4 alloys decompose after heat treatment at 900 and 1000 °C, respectively, and the microhardness of the as-cast Cu0.3Cr2Fe2Ni3Mn2Nbx HEAs increases from 127 to 203 HV with increasing Nb content. After heat treatment, the microhardness of the alloys considerably improves, and the Nb0.4 alloy has the highest microhardness after heat treatment at 800 °C (approximately 346 HV). After heat treatment at 900 and 1000 °C, the microhardness of the three alloys decreases. The yield strength of the as-cast Cu0.3Cr2Fe2Ni3Mn2Nbx HEAs increases with Nb content and shows a trend of first increasing and then decreasing with increasing heat treatment temperature. The strengthening mechanism of the heat-treated alloys is mainly attributed to the second-phase strengthening of the Laves phase and the solid solution strengthening of the BCC phase. Summary: Genetic transformation is a critical tool for gene editing and genetic improvement of plants. Although many model plants and crops can be genetically manipulated, genetic transformation systems for fruit trees are either lacking or perform poorly. We used Rhizobium rhizogenes to transfer the target gene into the hairy roots of Malus domestica and Actinidia chinensis. Transgenic roots were generated within 3 weeks, with a transgenic efficiency of 78.8%. Root to shoot conversion of transgenic hairy roots was achieved within 11 weeks, with a regeneration efficiency of 3.3%. Finally, the regulatory genes involved in stem cell activity were used to improve shoot regeneration efficiency. MdWOX5 exhibited the most significant effects, as it led to an improved regeneration efficiency of 20.6% and a reduced regeneration time of 9 weeks. Phenotypes of the overexpression of RUBY system mediated red roots and overexpression of MdRGF5 mediated longer root hairs were observed within 3 weeks, suggesting that the method can be used to quickly screen genes that influence root phenotype scores through root performance, such as root colour, root hair, and lateral root. Obtaining whole plants of the RUBY system and MdRGF5 overexpression lines highlights the convenience of this technology for studying gene functions in whole plants.
