Abstract

In the paper, a backstepping control strategy based on a fractional-order finite-time command filter and a fractional-order finite-time disturbance observer is proposed for the trajectory tracking control of an unmanned surface vehicle. A fractional-order finite-time command filter is presented to estimate the derivatives of the intermediate control, which cannot be directly calculated, thereby reducing the chattering generated by the integer-order command filter. The fractional-order finite-time disturbance observer is presented to approximate and compensate for the model uncertainty and unknown external disturbances in the system. Subsequently, the globally asymptotically stable nature of the closed-loop system is proved based on the Lyapunov method. The effectiveness of the method is proven by simulation experiments on unmanned surface vehicles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

This study presents a new micromechanical model to investigate the effects of thermal residual stresses and interfacial properties on the transverse behaviors of SiC/Ti composites with different microstructures. In this model, the fiber-matrix interface is modeled by the bilinear cohesive zone model. The interface model is introduced into the generalized method of cells, which has the advantage of computational accuracy and efficiency. At the same time, the generalized method of cells is extended to consider thermal residual stresses within the fiber and matrix phases. Thermal residual stresses are found to have a significant influence on the transverse behaviors of the composites. Compared with the perfect interface, the transverse behaviors of the composites with weak interface bonding are much lower. Moreover, with the increase of fiber fraction, the stiffness of the composites increases before debonding occurs while the saturation stress decreases. The predicted results using the circular fiber model and considering thermal residual stresses are more consistent with the experimental values compared with the results using the square or elliptical fiber model. When the stress concentration factor is considered and the interface is weakly bonding, the strength predictions are much better than the results using the perfect bonding.

225. Min-Max Probe Placement and Extended Relaxation Estimation Method for Processing Blade Tip Timing Signals

Abstract

Measuring blade displacement using blade tip timing (BTT) enables nonintrusive monitoring of rotating blades and their vibration frequencies. The average sampling frequency of BTT is the product of the number of measurement probes and rotational frequency, which is usually far less than the blade natural frequency due to the limited number of probes. The pattern of the aliasing that arises from under-sampling is rather complex under uneven probe placement. In this article, we consider a probe placement design that is based on minimizing the maximum sidelobe level of the spectral window to suppress the aliasing frequencies in the spectrum. Based on a signal model containing both asynchronous and synchronous sinusoids, we then develop an extended version of the RELAX method (ERELAX) to estimate their parameters simultaneously. Model order selection rules are also used to determine the number of asynchronous sinusoids. The frequency ambiguity that arises from periodic nonuniform sampling (PNS) is also discussed based on the convolution in the frequency domain. Numerical simulations and results of a curved-blade experiment show that the proposed method has a mean squared estimation error less than 25% of that of two state-of-the-art methods (Block-OMP and MUSIC), requires 40% of the data length needed by the latter methods to achieve the same estimation accuracy, and has the smallest standard deviation of the reconstruction errors. Abstract

Most models of visual attention are aimed at predicting either top-down or bottom-up control, as studied using different visual search and free-viewing tasks. We propose Human Attention Transformer (HAT), a single model predicting both forms of attention control. HAT is the new state-of-the-art (SOTA) in predicting the scanpath of fixations made during target-present and target-absent search, and matches or exceeds SOTA in the prediction of taskless free-viewing fixation scanpaths. HAT achieves this new SOTA by using a novel transformer-based architecture and a simplified foveated retina that collectively create a spatio-temporal awareness akin to the dynamic visual working memory of humans. Unlike previous methods that rely on a coarse grid of fixation cells and experience information loss due to fixation discretization, HAT features a dense-prediction architecture and outputs a dense heatmap for each fixation, thus avoiding discretizing fixations. HAT sets a new standard in computational attention, which emphasizes both effectiveness and generality. HAT's demonstrated scope and applicability will likely inspire the development of new attention models that can better predict human behavior in various attention-demanding scenarios.

232. Compressed Line Spectral Estimation Using Covariance: A Sparse Reconstruction Perspective

Abstract

Efficient line spectral estimation methods applicable to sub-Nyquist sampling are drawing considerable attention in both academia and industry. In this letter, we propose an enhanced compressed sensing (CS) framework for line spectral estimation, termed sparsity-based compressed covariance sensing (SCCS). In terms of sampling, SCCS is implemented by periodic non-uniform sampling; In terms of recovery, SCCS focuses on compressed line spectral recovery using covariance information. Due to the dual priors on sparsity and structure, SCCS theoretically performs better than CS in compressed line spectral estimation. We explain this superiority from the mutual incoherence perspective: the sensing matrix in SCCS has a lower mutual coherence than that in classic CS. Extensive experimental results show a high consistency with the theoretical inference. All in all, SCCS opens many avenues for line spectral estimation.

233. A Single-Probe Blade Tip Timing Method for Fast Extraction of Blade Natural Frequency

Abstract

With the advantages of noncontact and the characteristic of the whole circumferential blade measurement, blade tip timing (BTT) technology shows vast potential for blade vibration monitoring. However, the frequency aliasing and nonuniformity in BTT signals remain the core challenges for accurate blade vibration reconstruction from BTT signals. In this study, a single-probe-based method that can extract the natural frequency of the rotating blade rapidly and accurately without considering the layout and number of the probes was proposed. First, a virtual signal is generated based on the BTT signal. Then, the two signals are multiplied and FFT is performed. By searching for peaks to find specific frequencies in the spectrum, de-aliasing can be achieved based on the frequency components in the product signal, and ultimately the natural frequency of the blade is obtained. The numerical and experimental results have verified the effectiveness of the method. The potential of the proposed method for small sample signal analysis and online blade health monitoring has also been demonstrated.

234. Delay Coprime Sampling: A Simplified Sub-Nyquist Sampling for Noisy Multi-Sinusoidal Signals

Abstract

As the frequencies increase, the Nyquist rate is difficult to reach in certain applications. Consequently, alternatives to high-rate sampling are drawing considerable attention. In this letter, we propose a novel sub-Nyquist sampling scheme for noisy multi-sinusoidal signal (MSS), termed delay coprime sampling (DCS). In terms of structure, DCS is the simplest deterministic compressive blind sampling. Specifically, DCS is a periodic non-uniform sampling of order 2 with coprime delays. To estimate the frequency or power spectrum from extremely undersampled samples from DCS, we construct a new function, termed $n$th-fold correlation, which carries the same frequency set as the MSS. Remarkably, we find the $n$th-fold correlation samples with consecutive lags are available through step-by-step operations and then the power spectrum or characteristic frequency can be efficiently estimated. Extensive simulations are provided to verify the effectiveness of DCS. By comparing it with popular sub-Nyquist schemes, DCS shows advantages in reducing sampling rate/channel while simplifying the hardware configuration.
