Abstract

On‐skin electronics have been widely used in fields, such as wearable healthcare and human–machine interfaces due to their excellent performances and wearable comfort. Among them, on‐skin sensors for collecting signals have been greatly developed, while the stimulators that provide tactile feedback are difficult to achieve in terms of flexibility and stretchability due to their rather complicated structures. Achieving on‐skin stimulators with superior performances and outstanding wearability requires major advances in materials, fabrication, and structure design. The on‐skin stimulator needs to be soft with a lightweight and thin structure so that it can be laminated onto the skin with conformal contact for accurate feedback. Three stimulation modes, namely electrotactile, thermal, mechanotactile, and vibrotactile stimulation, are investigated. Among them, electrotactile stimulation is the characteristics of high resolution and quick response. Thermal stimulation can provide a unique heat sensation without crosstalk with other stimuli. Mechanotactile and vibrotactile stimulation can bring comfortable feedback to skin, showing great potential in wearable applications. This paper summarizes the working principles, materials, structures, and applications of these on‐skin stimulators, and compares their advantages with conventional rigid devices. 231. Multi-material 3D nanoprinting for structures to functional micro/nanosystems

Abstract

Multi-material 3D fabrication at the nanoscale has been a long-sought goal in additive manufacturing, with great potential for the direct construction of functional micro/nanosystems rather than just arbitrary 3D structures. To achieve this goal, researchers have introduced several nanoscale 3D printing principles, explored various multi-material switching and combination strategies, and demonstrated their potential applications in 3D integrated circuits, optoelectronics, biological devices, micro/nanorobots, etc. Although some progress has been made, it is still at the primary stage, and a serious breakthrough is needed to directly construct functional micro/nano systems. In this perspective, the development, current status and prospects of multi-material 3D nanoprinting are presented. We envision that this 3D printing will unlock innovative solutions and make significant contributions to various technologies and industries in the near future.

233. Structural Engineering for High‐Performance Flexible and Stretchable Strain Sensors.

Abstract

Structural engineering is proved to be effective in improving both measurement sensitivity and range for flexible and stretchable strain sensors. Herein, the latest advancements in structural engineering strategies are summarized for the improvement of sensing performances of flexible and stretchable strain sensors. Porous structures, wrinkled structures, and overlapped structures can increase the sensing range significantly. High sensitivity of strain sensors can be achieved by crack structures in thin film and strain concentration structures in substrate. Strain sensors with hierarchical structures are able to have both high sensitivity and wide sensing range. Moreover, potential applications of flexible and stretchable strain sensors fabricated with engineered structures are presented. Abstract

In this study, we propose a novel optical flow formulation for estimating high-accuracy velocity fields from tracer particle image sequences. According to the Helmholtz velocity decomposition theorem, the proposed optical flow method decomposes the two-dimensional velocity field into four components: translation motion, linear distortion motion, shear distortion motion and rotation motion. In this context, regularization terms for different motion components are designed, which have a reasonable physical interpretation for the flow characteristics of the fluid. Subsequently, we design specific regularization parameters for the corresponding regularization terms according to the flow characteristics of the motion components. These regularization parameters can be adaptively adjusted with changes in the image space and velocity field. In addition, the data term of the optical flow formulation is based on the projected-motion equation derived from the continuity equation, which maintains the compressibility of the fluid in the two-dimensional plane. Velocity fields are estimated from synthetic tracer particle images and hypersonic experimental image sequences, and the velocity results are compared to those of an advanced cross-correlation-based PIV method and previous advanced optical flow methods. The results and comparisons indicate that the proposed method shows good performance and high measurement accuracy when acquiring compressible flow structures from fluid measurements.
