Abstract Upwelling along oceanic eastern boundaries has attracted significant attention due to its profound effects on ocean productivity and associated biological and socioeconomic implications. However, uncertainty persists regarding the evolution of coastal upwelling with climate change, particularly its impact on future biological production. Here, using a series of state-of-the-art climate models, we identify a significant seasonal advancement and prolonged duration of upwelling in major upwelling systems. Nevertheless, the upwelling intensity (total volume of upwelled water) exhibits complex changes in the future. In the North Pacific, the upwelling is expected to attenuate, albeit with a minor magnitude. Conversely, in other basins, coastal upwelling diminishes significantly in equatorward regions but displays a slight decline or even an enhancement at higher latitudes. The climate simulations also reveal a robust connection between changes in upwelling intensity and net primary production, highlighting the crucial impact of future coastal upwelling alterations on marine ecosystems.

This paper summarize the nursing practice of facial neuritis in a patient with multiple myeloma during the interval between chemotherapy. In addition to facial care, rehabilitation training and emotion care, Traditional Chinese Medicine characteristic nursing techniques such as acupoint application and acupuncture were carried out to relieve the symptoms of facial paralysis and anxiety of the patient, and ensure the following chemotherapy. Currently, most fiber optic microseismic monitoring systems in China are based on optical grating sensing technology. However, fiber optic grating wavelength demodulation limits the detection frequency and sensitivity of the system, and there are few successful cases of long-term, continuous and uninterrupted microseismic monitoring. In order to solve the above problems, a new type of all fiber microseismic monitoring system is proposed. Taking the monitoring of water inrush from the floor during the mining process of Pan'er Coal Mine 11023 working face as the engineering background, a comparison is made between the all fiber optic microseismic monitoring system and the ESG microseismic monitoring system. It is found that the all fiber optic microseismic monitoring system has the following advantages. The recorded waveform spectrum features are clearer, showing a high signal-to-noise ratio advantage. The monitoring range for disturbance depth is larger, and the remote monitoring effect is better. The distribution of seismic source positioning results is more reasonable and more in line with the actual mining situation of the working face. During the monitoring of the entire mining cycle of the working face, the relationship between the floor failure and microseismic activity in the fault abnormal area of the 11023 working face is analyzed. Near the fault and coal seam thinning abnormal area, the number and intensity of microseismic events increase. During the initial mining period of the working face, stress is concentrated and released. Due to the influence of mining, the floor is severely damaged. Relatively high energy events are mainly distributed in the floor of the fault anomaly area, with a depth of about 27 meters of damage to the floor. Micro seismic events do not form a line or accumulate in a plane below 60 meters of the 3 coal seam floor. It indicates that cracks have not expanded and no water conducting channels have been formed. The working face can be safely mined.

Objective To study the effects of different pellet feed hardness on the growth and reproduction, feed utilization rate, and environmental dust in laboratory mice. Methods One hundred of fifty 50 3-week-old SPF-grade C57BL/6JGpt and 150 ICR laboratory mice were randomly divided into three groups, with an equal number of males and females. They were fed diets with different hardness of 18.62 kg, 23.15 kg, and 27.89 kg. Body weight, feed utilization rate, and dust levels in cages were recorded and calculated for mice aged 3-10 weeks. Forty-five 6-week-old male mice and ninety 4-week-old female mice from each strain were randomly divided into three groups and fed pellet feeds with three different hardness levels. After 2 weeks of adaptation to the same hardness feed, the mice were paired at a 1∶2 male-to-female ratio and monitored for reproductive data for 3 months. Results At the age of 4 weeks, the body weight of male C57BL/6JGpt mice in 23.15 kg group was significantly higher than that in the 18.62 kg and 27.89 kg groups (P0.05). For both strains, feed utilization rate for males was higher than that for females across different feed hardness groups at all weeks of age (P0.05). However, the monthly production index of C57BL/6JGpt mice first increased and then decreased with the increase of feed hardness, while that of ICR mice increased with increasing feed hardness, though these differences were not statistically significant (P>0.05). Conclusion Different strains and genders had different tolerance to feed hardness. C57BL/6JGpt mice are more adapted to lower hardness feeds, while ICR mice are better suited to slightly higher hardness feeds.

Carnosine dipeptidase 1 (CNDP1), an enzyme integral to the hydrolysis of dipeptides containing histidine, plays an indispensable role in myriad physiological processes, including hydrolysis of proteins, maturation of specific biochemical functionalities within proteins, tissue regeneration, and regulation of cell cycle. However, the implications of CNDP1 in oncogenesis and its prognostic value are not yet fully elucidated. Initially, we procured the GSE40367 dataset from the Gene Expression Omnibus and established a protein–protein interaction network. Thereafter, we conducted functional and pathway enrichment analyses utilizing GO, KEGG, and GSEA. Moreover, we undertook an association analysis concerning the expression of CNDP1 with immune infiltration, along with survival analysis across various cancers and specifically in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Our study uncovered a total of 2,248 differentially expressed genes, with a down-regulation of CNDP1 in HCC and other cancers. Our explorations into the relationship between CNDP1 and immune infiltration disclosed a negative correlation between CNDP1 expression and the presence of immune cells in HCC. Survival analyses revealed that diminished expression of CNDP1 correlates with an adverse prognosis in HCC and several other types of cancer. These observations intimate that CNDP1 holds promise as a novel prognostic biomarker for both pan-cancer and HCC.

Within the framework of the theory of visual attention (TVA), the visual attention span (VAS) deficit among individuals with developmental dyslexia has been ascribed to the problems entailed by bottom-up (BotU) and top-down (TopD) attentional processes. The former involves two VAS subcomponents: the visual short-term memory storage and perceptual processing speed; the latter consists of the spatial bias of attentional weight and the inhibitory control. Then, what about the influences of the BotU and TopD components on reading? Are there differences in the roles of the two types of attentional processes in reading? This study addresses these issues by using two types of training tasks separately, corresponding to the BotU and TopD attentional components. Three groups of Chinese children with dyslexia--15 children each in the BotU training, TopD training, and non-trained active control groups were recruited here. Participants completed reading measures and a CombiTVA task which was used to estimate VAS subcomponents, before and after the training procedure. Results showed that BotU training improved both the within-category and between-category VAS subcomponents and sentence reading performance; meanwhile, TopD training enhanced character reading fluency through improving spatial attention capacity. Moreover, benefits on attentional capacities and reading skills in the two training groups were generally maintained three months after the intervention. The present findings revealed diverse patterns in the influences of VAS on reading within the TVA framework, which contributes to enriching the understanding of VAS-reading relation.

Resting heart rate is associated with cardiovascular diseases and mortality in observational and Mendelian randomization studies. The aims of this study are to extend the number of resting heart rate associated genetic variants and to obtain further insights in resting heart rate biology and its clinical consequences. A genome-wide meta-analysis of 100 studies in up to 835,465 individuals reveals 493 independent genetic variants in 352 loci, including 68 genetic variants outside previously identified resting heart rate associated loci. We prioritize 670 genes and in silico annotations point to their enrichment in cardiomyocytes and provide insights in their ECG signature. Two-sample Mendelian randomization analyses indicate that higher genetically predicted resting heart rate increases risk of dilated cardiomyopathy, but decreases risk of developing atrial fibrillation, ischemic stroke, and cardio-embolic stroke. We do not find evidence for a linear or non-linear genetic association between resting heart rate and all-cause mortality in contrast to our previous Mendelian randomization study. Systematic alteration of key differences between the current and previous Mendelian randomization study indicates that the most likely cause of the discrepancy between these studies arises from false positive findings in previous one-sample MR analyses caused by weak-instrument bias at lower P-value thresholds. The results extend our understanding of resting heart rate biology and give additional insights in its role in cardiovascular disease development.

The rapid development of education informatization provides more and more K-12 Chinese mathematics classrooms access to digital technologies. As a result, it is important to understand Chinese mathematics teachers' practices of technology integration in order to better support them. A questionnaire containing close and Likert-scale questions was distributed to 1,083 Chinese mathematics teachers to understand their usage of a list of commonly available technologies and demographic factors related to their technology usage. Results from the survey showed that search engines, self-accumulated digital resources, courseware, and smartboard were frequently used by the majority of participants. Other commonly available technologies were only frequently used by less than half of the participants. In lesson preparation the majority of participants used technologies to download resources, make courseware, and search for practicing problems. Most participants used technologies to motivate students and present knowledge and information during classroom instruction. The impact of age, grade levels, years of teaching with technology, and teacher beliefs on the participants' technology usage was also analyzed. Implications of the findings from this study were discussed.

Background Exosomal miRNAs have emerged as promising biomarkers for cancer. However, little is known about the role of exosomal miRNAs in the response prediction of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) patients treated with chemoradiotherapy (CRT). Methods In this prospective study, 40 ESCC patients treated by CRT were enrolled from January 2021 to June 2022. Exosomes were isolated from plasma through EXODUS platform. We used small RNA sequencing in 14 samples of ESCC patients (7 responders, 7 non-responders) and the selected exosomal miRNAs were further validated in the extended cohort of 40 ESCC patients by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Results In the discovery phase, we identified five significantly differentially expressed exosomal miRNAs from miRNA sequencing data between the responder and non-responder patients. Abstract Wind‐generated near‐inertial internal waves (NIWs) are characterized by dominant long‐range equatorward radiation due to the gradient of the planetary vorticity, known as the β‐refraction effect. In this study, we analyze the effects of horizontal model resolution on the long‐range equatorward radiation of NIWs. In a high‐resolution Community Earth System Model (CESM‐HR) with a 0.1° oceanic resolution, about 25% (15%) of NIW energy flux injected downward the surface boundary layer base poleward of 30°N (30°S) radiates into the lower‐latitude region. This ratio decreases to about 15% (8%) in a low‐resolution CESM (CESM‐LR) with a 1° oceanic resolution. The higher long‐range equatorward radiation efficiency in the CESM‐HR than the CESM‐LR is directly attributed to the faster equatorward group velocity of the NIWs of the first three vertical modes, which reflects the better representation of equatorward propagation and beta‐refraction of smaller scale NIWs in the CESM‐HR. The enhancement of equatorward wavenumber induced by the β‐refraction is inhibited in the CESM‐LR, which underrepresent the long‐range equatorward radiation of NIWs. These results underscore the necessity of high‐resolution ocean models in accurately simulating the spatial variabilities of NIWs and their induced turbulent diapycnal mixing in the global ocean.

The pathogenesis of cognitive impairment (CI) in coronary artery disease (CAD) patients is still unclear and numerous influence factors could affect the CI status. The current studies suggest that sleep quality and behavior pattern are significant influence factors associated with CAD susceptibility.
